International Investment Gains

Our latest International Investment & Business Seminar here in Ashe County,  North Carolina  looked at International Investment gains that were up 14% in the first six months of this year.

When these seminars begin… there is always a hint of excitement.   Thomas Fisher has flown in from Denmark. Our webmaster, David Cross, has arrived from Oregon and delegates have come from all over the world.

We’ll look at some of the international investments we view (including Ecuador opportunity) but let’s also allow some of the delegates to tell you how they felt about this seminar.

One delegate wrote:

Hi Gary, Merri and David,  Thanks for a great weekend.  As a new club member, I’m looking forward to the next time that we can spend some time together and to reading “Ecuador Living”.  Sincerely,

When our North Carolina international investing and business seminars begin, I rise at dawn on the farm and then…

international-investment-seminar

we drive into West Jefferson where we conduct the seminar.

We are casual at our international investment seminars but serious.

international-investment-seminar

Many delegates make international investing and business… even lifestyle decisions based on the economic updates we share, so I and our other speakers, Thomas Fischer of Jyske Global Asset Management, our webmaster David Cross and Merri have spent enormous time getting prepared.

This year our July North Carolina course was conducted at at the Ashe County Arts Center in West Jefferson.

The Arts Center is housed in a historic WPA building featuring a gallery so we share our information amidst local art and crafts, statuary and exhibits from over four-dozen artists.  Here is some of the art we saw.

international-investing-seminar

The seminar began with a historical review that led us to three places to invest now.

#1: Multi Currency Sandwich in value markets, emerging markets and wellness.

#2: The environment.

#3: Real Estate in the US and Ecuador.

Plus we saw why many of us would need our own business.

The first historical fundamental we covered was a way to predict where markets might go next.  We saw for example that the Dow has moved in approximate 15-17 year up and down cycles for over 100 years.

We viewed how the Dow appears to be in the 10th year of a 15 to 17 year down cycle that began in 1999.  We compared the last two years of this cycle, with the equivalent period in the 1968 to 1982 bear cycle.

We saw an amazing 93% correlation between then and now.

The chart below from Moore Research compares the Dow from 1976 through 1978 to the Dow of the last 18 months. The Blue line is what happened in the equivalent period in the 1970s to now.

Here is what another delegate wrote about this seminar:

Hello Merri & Gary,  Now that I am back home and settled into the normal routine, it’s time to drop you a line to say how much my brother Rick and I enjoyed attending the conference last weekend.   Experiencing the beauty of Ashe County and the pleasant disposition of the people who live there contributed to the picture of the place that you paint via the letters and photos sent out to your readers.  Not only was the information presented there of great value, but Rick and I found that all of the other participants we met are great people indeed, just as you’ve mentioned.  Your ability to attract like-minded souls is a service in itself, and one that provides lessons we can all strive to emulate going forward.

Thank you again for providing the opportunity of meeting you both in person; I will begin to make use of the information to enhance my own life and look forward to seeing you both again some day.  Best wishes.

Then we looked at the multi currency sandwich and how you can currently borrow US dollars at 3% to invest the loan in higher yielding shares and bonds.  Pound loans are 4%.

We also saw how the British pound was a potentially undervalued currency versus the US dollar.

We looked at how Jyske Global Asset management’s Low Risk Portfolio with a 100% loan rose 11.4% since 2009 or at 23% per annum pace.

Then we reviewed an 18% six month profit with 4.75% ISS Capital 2010 bond (or growth at 36% per annum pace).

We reviewed a  7.25% Bombardier 2016 bond. that offered a longer duration and higher spread of 3.5%.

This led us to a multi currency sandwich with $100,000 invested and $50,000 US$ loan at 3% and $50,000 loan in British pounds at 4%.

The $200,000 was invested $100,000 in US the 7.5% dollar bond above.  $50,000 was invested in a Pound denominated bond issued by Hungary due 2016 and yielding 10%.  $50,000 was invested in British shares because Britain is one of the best valued major markets at this time.

Here is what another delegate shared about the seminar:

Merri, My wife  and I would like to thank you and Gary for a wonderful course. We thoroughly enjoyed all the information presented by Gary, Thomas and David. And we thank you for your hospitality with having us to your lovely “piece of paradise” in Lansing. The lunch was delicious and your presentation of import/export items was quite interesting.  We look forward to visiting Ecuador in September of 2010. And we look forward to visiting and staying at your hotel in Cotacatchi.

We then reveiwed the best and worst value equity markets around the world and saw that the best valued major markets are now Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Singapore and the UK.

Here is what another delegate had to say about this seminar.

Hi Gary & Merri,  I thoroughly enjoyed the time you so graciously allowed me to attend at your seminar and am not surprised, in the least, that you are getting rave reviews.  You and Merri make such a wonderful team offering these seminars with professionalism and charm, and here in Ashe County, with a unique local flavor.  We all thoroughly enjoyed meeting and getting acquainted with many of your delegates.  As it was last year as well, many of the people you attract with your seminars are well traveled, interesting and very personable.  Thank you for your friendship and generosity,

In another session we looked at the importance of investing in the environment. We saw three ways to gain from sustainability changes ahead.

#1: Adaptation.  Investing in solutions to health problems is an example. Poor food produced in our central food system creates blood sugar problems, so Novo Norsk a Danish company that is the largest producer of insulin makes sense.

#2: Mitigation.  Cleaning up the mess humanity offers profit especially with water. Hyflux, a Singapore company, and Kurita Water, a Japanese firm, both have potential in this field.

#3: Structural Change.   Vestas Wind Turbines is a Danish company and is the largest maker of wind turbines to produce energy.

Here is what anther delegates sent to Merri and me about this seminar:

As a retiree who saw her retirement sustain considerable loss due to the economy, I found the information you presented during the three days to be extremely helpful and showed a plausible way for me to have some recovery.  Besides all of the relevant information, your emphasis on honesty and the importance of not to be deceptive was reassuring.  The bottom line is, that what gave real value to the information we were receiving and what made us feel comfortable was, that we felt you, Thomas and David were all people of good character.  Something that is very important to us.  Thank you, Gary and Merri, for providing a wonderful Seminar. Sincere regards.

On Saturday evening we drove to Lansing and looked at how small businesses can grow as we visited the New River Winery for a wine tasting. The winery is housed in another old WPA building which originally was the Lansing school.

international-investing-seminar

Here is Haskell McGuire one of New River founders showing us the winery.

international-investment-seminar

New River’s flagship wines are Bohemia Red and Bohemia White. These were followed by the introduction of signature wines, Back Porch Blueberry.  New River now has several new wines in production including:  Pinot Blanc, Viogner, Hellbender Red, Lansing School White, Big Laurel Blush, and Seyval.

The winery started small and is growing by leaps and bounds. Vineyards and wineries are one of the fastest growing business sectors in North Carolina.

Here is an unedited quite from another delegate:

Dear Gary and Merri:  We so enjoyed attending the IBEZ Seminar this past weekend in Jefferson, NC.  We loved the high country area, the nice people we met and particularly enjoyed the visit and tour of the New River Winery.  We were lucky to sit at a table with four utterly charming southern women, one of whom was Haskell’s wife.  We had a long drive home on Sunday and were sad that we had to leave and not be able to join you and our group for lunch at your farm and sad that we missed Merri’s cooking.  We hope someday in the future we may have the opportunity to visit your property as we heard it is quite beautiful.

Then we began the international business sessions of the course and David began teaching how to use the internet in business.

We started by looking at a Time Magazine quote which said:

Throw away your briefcase: you’re not going to office. You can kiss benefits goodbye. Your new boss won’t look much like your old one. There’s no longer a ladder, and you may never get to retire, but there’s a world of opportunity if you figure out a new path.

On Sunday we continued the course at our farm. Everyone was invited up to the house for lunch.

We did a review of Ecuador export products.

Another delegate wrote:

Hi Gary, Just a quick note to tell you again how much I enjoyed the seminar and seeing your lovely farm.  I spoke to you briefly about deciding that I wanted the web course instead of mult-currency.  Thank you for sending me that instead of the multi-currency.  It may be two weeks, but I am starting to work on that site.  I know from life experience that it is always better to focus on what you want to create instead of what you don’t want. So thank you for the buzz of creativity that you, David, and others from the  group inspired.  I am also interested in featuring the dulcamaras product on my site, along with testimonials.  You mentioned a contact for that product.  I would appreciate that information also. Smiles.

Here is some Ecuador art that evolved from drum making.

plus we had fun.

As the guests leave… in the dusk… there is always a moment of sadness.  New friends made.  Interesting ideas shared and now we are moving apart.

Yet we’ll be back together again next seminar.

This delegate expressed it well when she wrote:

Thank you again for a truly life changing and life enhancing weekend. And we also wish your loved ones a speedy recovery and good health. Best regards.

We hope you will join us for our International Investing and Business Course in North Carolina this October or in Ecuador in November like this delegate who wrote:

Hi Gary,  It was wonderful to meet you and Merri at the IBEZ Conference this past weekend!  You both are so warm and caring and have a genuine desire to help the people of Ecuador and others to build a successful business.

The classes were very insightful and jam packed with information and suggestions on how to start your very own web based business. You and David, your webmaster, presented the information in an easy to understand format that even computer dummies like me could understand.

The multi currency investing portion of the class presented by you and Thomas Fischer from Jyske Global Asset Management were very interesting and educational.  It opened our eyes to new avenues of investing that we didn’t have a clue about before.

We also very much enjoyed the Import and Export portion of the class.  The items from Ecuador that you and Merri shared with us were very beautiful.  I especially loved the bird art and would be very interested in importing some of these to sell.  I am also interested in jewelry, leather goods, and the shawls like Fran was wearing in class (they were enhanced with the leather collar and leather applique).  I think that custom made leather goods that are stamped, as you and Merri suggested, have good income potentials. We would like to thank you and Merri for opening up your beautiful home to the class on Sunday afternoon and feeding us such a delicious lunch.  This was the perfect ending to three days of fun and sharing of ideals and suggestions on how to make money from investing in property and multi currency to building a successful web site business and Importing/Exporting from Ecuador for profit.  Thank you and Merri so much for everything.  We look forward to attending additional conferences.  Take care and hope to see you again soon.

Hi Gary, Just looked at your website for the first time and couldn’t hardly stop reading all the fantastic topics and the wealth of information you provide.  One of the best website’s I’ve experienced.  Don’t know why I haven’t looked at it sooner but am very happy I finally got to it.  I read as many articles as I could in one sitting with limited time this morning and am anxious to get back to read more.  Your life experiences and expertise is fascinating.  It’s amazing how close your philosophy about life, work, investing, family, etc. parallels my own.  I suppose international living, broad experiences with other cultures, diverse business experiences, etc., culminate in a certain way we view the world.  Anyway, thanks for sharing so much excellent philosophy and expertise.

Retire With Micro Income

You can retire in with micro income from an internet business.

An Ecuador Living subscriber just sent me this note.

Hey Gary, My Ecuador Living subscription has already paid for itself
with the free night in your lovely hotel in Cotacachi. Your articles
are interesting and timely and the pictures of Ecuador are lovely. That
article on how to retire in Ecuador and buying property inside an IRA
really opened my eyes. Sincerely

There are many ways to earn income when you live or retire in Ecuador.

For example you can live or retire in Ecuador with an internet business.

Michelle Toole, a student (who has become a student teacher) from our internet and self publishing course sent this note about how to earn income when you retire in Ecuador or when you move anywhere in the world.

Hi Gary,

I hope this note finds both you and Merri doing well…….attached is my article for this month.

Just to give you a quick update my web site, healthy-holistic-living.com is getting 1200-1500 visitors each day!  Yup each and every day – that is over 30,000 visitors each month! It is truly hard to believe that it all started with one visitor!  And to add to that exciting news I just started a second web site home-remedies-and-natural-cures.com!

I often ponder how all of this started from a trip to Ecuador and meeting both you and Merri!  Life is truly a great adventure….  Much Love to You Both, Michelle.

An internet business provides you with mobility to live or retire in Ecuador or anywhere you choose.

This is why we have been providing readers with a free course on how to use “Site-Build-It” to create an internet business written by our friend and student Michelle Toole.  Here is her 37th lesson.

Is Tweeting on Twitter a Trap?

Have you fallen into the social marketing trap?  How much of your time should you spend in the social networking arenas (twitter, facebook, my space etc.) trying to market your web business?  Can it pay off?  Let’s take a look at Twitter……..

What Is Twitter?

Simply put, Twitter is a free social messaging utility for staying connected in real-time.  Huh…….

The best way to understand Twitter is to picture a bunch of people conversing around a water cooler, except in this case, you can only communicate in text and you have a limit of 140 characters!

According to Wikepedia:

“Twitter (twitter.com) is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read each others’ updates, known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters, displayed on the author’s profile page and delivered to other users – known as followers – who have subscribed to them.

Senders can restrict delivery to those in their circle of friends or, by default, allow open access.”

So how do you connect with other Tweeters? You can access other individual’s “conversations” or “tweets” through Twitter’s search tool.  You simply key in various terms of interest and then scroll through the results until you find a comment that grabs your attention. Next step? Introduce yourself and share your own thoughts.   If you like where the conversation is going, add the person to your twitter feed by hitting their ‘follow’ button and when there’s something new about that topic, you’ll know. That’s it in a nutshell…

So Can Twitter Help Build Your Web Business?

Yes and No……The key is to find time-effective ways to use Twitter for building your business. There are many strategies that can be used to build a following for your web site or blog, establish joint ventures and build your ‘brand of one’, but each needs to be weighed according to time invested and return.   If you find yourself spending 5 mind numbing hours a day ‘tweeting’ you should ban yourself from Twitter and reconsider how your time could be better spent.  Remember, we only have so many hours in a day. Prioritizing that time is critical. And it’s easy to lose lots of time at Twitter, 140 characters at a time.

Here’s a one-time strategy (perhaps repeated monthly) for Twitter that you may find effective…

Search for someone interesting and influential in your field. If you find someone, open an account, make a couple of good tweets, and follow that person. Try to strike up a personal contact and take it from there. If you’re good, it may yield something, especially if you don’t shoot for the super-stars.

Following major players in your niche and staying up-to-date can benefit in multiple ways from providing you with fresh content ideas to striking up unique joint ventures.  But keep your mind open and your time tweeting to a limit.

Twitter Tips

1.    Twitter Settings.  Use these wisely…

o    Choose username carefully, making it as close to your domain name as possible.

o    Upload a profile pic of yourself, basically a nice head-and-shoulders photo.

o    Upload a custom background image, one that is related to your site’s theme.

2.    Twitterfeed (twitterfeed.com) Use this to distribute your new pages to Twitter.

3.    Other “Feed Services” Other services (ex. Ezinearticles ) enable you to update your submissions at Twitter.

It’s All About Leveraging……. If you find that you are working or communicating only one-on-one, that’s not leverage — it’s just fancy e-mail or messaging. But if you get folks involved in your site or if you can reach out to a large player (or YOUR equivalent) in your niche that tweets and strikes a deal, THAT’s leverage.
Bottom Line?

Twittering, as with all social networking tools, is about leveraging your time as much as possible.  Keep in mind all communication can be a waste of your time and energy, it’s about leveraging your time wisely whether you are communicating via twitter or having a face-to-face conversation with a prospect.  The bottom line is, make each tweet count……

OK I have taken the plunge and joined Twitter.  You can follow me here, http://twitter.com/natureheals. Happy Tweeting!

How We Can Serve You

How to Have Real Safety

garyheadshot

There are only three reasons why we should invest.  We invest for income.  We invest to resell our investments for more than we had invested.  We invest to make our world a better place.

We should not invest for fun, excitement or to get rich quick, or in a panic due to market corrections.

This is why the core Pi model portfolio (that forms the bulk of my own equity portfolio) consists of 19 shares and this position has not changed in over two years.  During these two years we have been steadily accumulating the same 19 shares and have not traded once.

The portfolio has done well in 2017, up 22.6%, better than the DJI Index.

motif

However one or even two year’s performance is not enough data to create a safe strategy.

The good value portfolio above is based entirely on good value financial information and mathematically based safety programs developed around models that date back 91 and 24 years.

The Pifolio is a theoretical portfolio of MSCI Country Benchmark Index ETFs that cover all the good value markets developed combining my 50 years of investing experience with study of the mathematical market value analysis of Keppler Asset Management and the mathematical trend analysis of Tradestops.com.

In my opinion, Keppler is one of the best market statisticians in the world.  Numerous very large fund managers, such as State Street Global Advisers, use his analysis to manage over $2.5 billion of funds.

The Pifolio analysis begins with Keppler who continually researches international major stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  He compares each major stock market’s history.

Fwd: keppler

Michael Kepler CEO Keppler Asset Management.

Michael is a brilliant mathematician.  We have tracked his analysis for over 20 years.   He continually researches international major stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  He compares each stock market’s history.  From this, he develops his Good Value Stock Market Strategy and rates each market as a Buy, Neutral or Sell market.  His analysis is rational, mathematical and does not cause worry about short term ups and downs.  Keppler’s strategy is to diversify into an equally weighted portfolio of the MSCI Indices of each BUY market.

This is an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value because little time, management and guesswork is required.  You are investing in a diversified portfolio of good value indices.

A BUY rating for an index does NOT imply that any stock in that country is an attractive investment, so you do not have to spend hours of research aimed at picking specific shares.  It is not appropriate or enough to instruct a stockbroker to simply select stocks in the BUY rated countries.  Investing in the index is like investing in all the shares in the index.  You save time because all you have to do is invest in the ETF to gain the profit potential of the entire market.

To achieve this goal of diversification the Pifolio consists of Country Index ETFs.

Country Index ETFs are similar to an index mutual fund but are shares normally traded on a major stock exchange that tracks an index of shares in a specific country.  ETFs do not try to beat the index they represent.  The management is passive and tries to emulate the performance of the index.

A country ETF provides diversification into a basket of equities in the country covered.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund as well so such ETFs provide diversification and cost efficiency.

Here is the Pifolio I personally use.

70% is diversified into Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) developed markets: Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Norway, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

30% of the Pifolio is invested in Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) emerging markets: Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan.

The Pifolio consists of iShares ETFs that invested in each of the MSCI indicies of the good value BUY markets.

For example, the iShares MSCI Australia (symbol EWA) is a Country Index ETF that tracks the investment results the Morgan Stanley Capital Index MSCI Australia Index which is composed mainly of large cap and small cap stocks traded primarily on the Australian Stock Exchange mainly of companies in consumer staples, financials and materials. This ETF is non-diversified outside of Australia.

iShares is owned by Black Rock, Inc. the world’s largest asset manager with over $4 trillion in assets under management.

Pi uses math to reveal the best value markets then protects its positions using more math created by Richard Smith founder and CEO of Tradestops.com to track each share’s trend.

We use Smith’s  algorithms that calculate momentum of the good value markets.

dr richard smith

The Stock State Indicators at Tradestops.com act as a full life-cycle measure that indicates the health of each stock. They are designed to tell you at a glance exactly where any stock stands relative to Dr. Smith’s proprietary algorithms.

Kepppler’s analysis shows the value of markets.  The SSI signal indicates the current trend of each stock (performing well, or in a period of correction, or stopped out).

The SSI tells you one of five things:

Screen Shot 2017-08-08 at 6.51.59 AM

Screen Shot 2017-08-08 at 6.52.12 AM

Screen Shot 2017-08-08 at 6.52.22 AM

Akey component of the Stock State Indicator (SSI) system is momentum based on the latest 521 days of trading.  A stock changes from red to green in the SSI system only after it has already gone up a healthy amount and has started a solid uptrend.

How SSI Alerts Are Triggered

If the position has already moved more than its Volatility Quotient below a recent high, the SSI Stop Loss will trigger.  This is an indicator that the position has corrected more than what is normal for this stock.  It means to take caution.

Below is an example of how SSIs work.  This example shows the Developed Market Pifolio that we track at Tradestops.com.

tradestops

Equal Weight Good Value Developed Market Pifolio.

At the time this example was copied, all the ETFs in the Developed Market Pifolio (above) currently had a green SSI.

We do not know when the US market will fall.  We only do know that it will.  We also do not know if, when the US market corrects, global markets will follow or rise instead.

The fact that the Pifilios are invested in good value markets reduces long term risk.

Additional protection is added by using trailing stops based on the 521 day momentum of each stock in the Pifolio.

Take for example the graph below from our Tradestops account that shows the iShares MSCI United Kingdom ETF.  This ETF had a green SSI and a Volatility Index (VQ) of 13.26%.  This means the share can move 13.26% before there is a trend shift.

tradestops

iShares MSCI United Kingdom ETF (Symbol EWU)

Pi purchased the share at$31.26 and in this example the share was $34.43 and rising.  Tradestop’s algorithms suggested that if the price drops to $31.69 its momentum would have stopped and it would have shifted into trading sideways.   The stop loss price is currently $29.86.  If EWU continues to rise, both the yellow warning and the stop loss price will rise as well.

When the US stock market bull ends, know one knows for sure how long or how severe the correction will be.

When the bear arrives, what will happen to global and especially good value markets?

No  one knows the answer to this question.

What we do know is that the equally weighted, good value market Pifolios have the greatest potential long term and that math based trailing stops can be used to protect against a secular global stock market correction when it comes.

My fifty years of global investing experience helps take advantage of numerous long term cycles that are part of the universal math that affects all investments.

You also receive two special reports.

In the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffett explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said:  Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

I did well then, but always thought, “I should have invested more!”  Now those circumstances have come together and I am investing in them again.

The circumstances that created fortunes 30 years ago were an overvalued US market (compared to global markets) and an overvalued US dollar.  The two conditions are in place again!

30 years ago, the US dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern is growing and could create up to 50% extra profit if we start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I have created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but included links to 153 pages of  Good Value Stock Market research and Asset Allocation Analysis.

The report shows 20 good value investments and a really powerful tactic that shows the most effective and least expensive way to accumulate these bargains in large or even very small amounts (less than $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

This report sells for $29.95 but in this special offer, you receive the report, “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

Plus get the $39.95 report “The Platinum Dip 2018” free.

With investors watching global stock markets bounce up and down, many missed two really important profit generating events over the last two years.  The price of silver dipped below $14 an ounce as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).   The second event is that the silver gold ratio hit 80, compared to a ratio of 230 only two years before.

In September 2015, I prepared a special report “Silver Dip 2015” about a silver speculation, leveraged with a British pound loan, that could increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The tactics described in that report generated 62.48% profit in just nine months.

I have updated this report and added how to use the Dip Strategy with platinum.   The “Platinum Dip 2018” report shares the latest in a series of long term lessons gained through 40 years of speculating and investing in precious metals.  I released the 2015 report, when the gold silver ratio slipped to 80.  The ratio has corrected and that profit has been taken and now a new precious metals dip has emerged.

I have prepared a new special report “Platinum Dip 2018” about a leveraged speculation that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.

You also learn from the Value Investing Seminar, our premier course, that we have been conducting for over 30 years.  Tens of thousands of delegates have paid up to $999 to attend.  Now you can join the seminar online FREE in this special offer.

Stock and currency markets are cyclical.  These cycles create extra profit for value investors who invest when everyone else has the markets wrong.  One special seminar session looks at how to spot value from cycles.  Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics.  Cycles create recurring profits.  Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 to 20 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns can create war.

The chart above shows the war – stock market cycle.  Military struggles (like the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the Cold War: WW III) super charge inventiveness that creates new forms of productivity…the steam engine, the internal combustion engine,  production line processes, jet engines, TV, farming techniques, plastics, telephone, computer and lastly during the Cold War, the internet.  The military technology shifts to domestic use.  A boom is created that leads to excess.  Excess leads to correction. Correction creates an economic downturn and again to war.

Details in the online seminar include:

* How to easily buy global currencies, shares and bonds.

* Trading down and the benefits of investing in real estate in Small Town USA.  We will share why this breakout value is special and why we have been recommending good value real estate in this area since 2009.

* What’s up with gold and silver?  One session looks at my current position on gold and silver and asset protection.  We review the state of the precious metal markets and potential problems ahead for US dollars.  Learn how low interest rates eliminate  opportunity costs of diversification in precious metals and foreign currencies.

* How to improve safety and increase profit with leverage and staying power.  The seminar reveals Warren Buffett’s value investing strategy from research published at Yale University’s website.  This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios). His big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of out performance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio, the better the odds of outstanding success.

Learn how much leverage to use.  Leverage is like medicine, the key is dose.  The best ratio is normally 1.6 to 1.  We’ll sum up the strategy; how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on the times and each individual’s circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

The online seminar also reveals  the results of a $80,000 share purchase cost test that found the least expensive way to invest in good value.  The keys to this portfolio are good value, low cost, minimal fuss and bother.  Plus a great savings of time.  Trading is minimal, usually not more than one or two shares are bought or sold in a year.  I wanted to find the very least expensive way to create and hold this portfolio so I performed this test.

I have good news about the cost of the seminar as well.   For almost three decades the seminar fee has been $799 for one or $999 for a couple. Tens of thousands paid this price, but online the seminar is $297.

Ecuador & Internet Businesses

Ecuador is a great place to operate an internet business.

Having an internet business that lets you go anywhere… in places like this… gives great satisfaction.

This was an extremely fulfilling tour for Merri, me and our delegates.

The recent, global economic transformation means that the way we work, live and earn will next be the same.  The new era ahead will destroy the financial security of many,  yet bring great opportunity to a few… who adapt and learn how to earn in the new era.

We are enjoying a quantum shift and the way we work, live, invest and do business will never be as before. Many who had not planned to keep working will have to have a way to enhance their pension.  Many will need new sources of income.

One of the great things about this shift is it gives everyone the opportunity to have a business they love, as Merri and I do with these tours.

With an internet business you can do just about anything… anywhere!

Our internet business makes tours like this shamanic adventure possible… bringing dozens of like minded souls from around the world to share this wisdom of the ancients.

The greatest asset we can have in the new era is an ability to serve… to produce a product or service that adapts to the changing ways.  An internet business lets us do this.

A recent special report in Time magazine entitled “The Way We’ll Work” explained this financial dilemma in this way:

Ten years ago, Facebook didn’t exist. Ten years before that, we didn’t have the Web.  So who knows what jobs will be born a decade from now? Though unemployment is at a 25‑year high, work will eventually return. But it won’t look the same. No one is going to pay you just to show up. We will see a more flexible, more freelance, more collaborative and far less secure work world. It will be run by a generation with new values — and women will increasingly be at the controls.

These words could not be more true.  They mean disaster for many who plan to live in the old ways. These words spell great opportunity for those who adapt and enjoy the new ways to earn and live.

Take Merri’s and my business as an example. We are both past retirement age yet continue to see our business and income grow and evolve… in truly fun and satisfying ways.   We have a business that works in Cotacachi, a small Andean village, in Florida, our home and in the Blue Ridge of North Carolina or summer place. Our business can help us earn anywhere we choose in the world.

Our website began eleven years ago as an adjunct to our print business. Today we don’t sell a single scrap of paper.

This is all possible because we have a web based business and we would like to share how you can have freedom, fulfillment and extra income with your own internet business too.

You can learn how to have your own web business from our eMailed Web Business Course… The Tangled Webs We Weave. Enroll here $299

This problem of being able to earn and enjoy the process in the new era is so acute and the importance of having more people do what they love so vital that we created this course…on how to develop your own international internet business.

Years ago, Merri and I  had 23,000 print readers… micro sized in publishing terms… but very, very profitable for us.  We made millions from this business.

Yet we saw this rapidly changing economy coming… and had learned that small is beautiful.

We decided to become even smaller… but wealthier and happier!

Money had stopped mattering as much, our children were grown, finished with university, we sold our print business and took a year off… lived with a shaman high in the Andes.

Then we morphed into an internet only business.  Our readership began small, with  about 1,600 email readers in 1998.  We expected to slow down and smell the roses more.

We even bought an isolated hacienda high in the Andes called Rosaspamba (Place of Roses).

Here we are playing around building a hut at the Hacienda.

ecuador-patience

As crazy as it seems, we could actually run a business with this small readership and make a profit because our readers are so wonderfully responsive.

Why?  How?

This is what the new course I am creating will teach you….how to have a small, safe, profitable global internet business by creating wonderfully response, fun to be with, like-minded customers.

How small?

Today, our business remains micro sized but we have grown from 1,600 readers to four  main subscription lists consisting of 16,234 subscribers.

How safe?

The downturn of 2008 has not slowed us a bit.   In fact we  are growing faster, in number of subscribers and income, than ever.   December 2008 was our busiest month on the internet ever…by about 50%.  Then in the six months of 2009 rose even more!

This is all at  a time when many say the world is economically depressed. Yet our sales are way up and growing almost every month.

How profitable?

Our list and sales are still tiny compared to many of our competitors and associates who make millions a month.   We make tens of thousands of dollars…sometimes hundreds of thousands each month… way more than our cost of living and we earn it in fun ways… traveling, writing… meeting interesting people.

Here I am at a recent seminar in Naples, Florida speaking, with a panel of economic excerpts from around the world, to 115 people mostly who came from our internet business.

multi-currency-debt

Here are the delegates.

multi-currency-debt

We enjoyed walking the Florida beach, talking to these wonderful people and basking in the sun.. yet were paid in two days more than most people make in a month.

Yet we have been able to add this extra income with a surprisingly small amount of added overheads.  This works perfectly for Merri and me…a fun sized readership. In our opinion, this should be the key in business… satisfaction… fulfillment and fun…through service along with the profit.

Yet, profits do matter. Almost every month our internet sales have been rising. In 2007, 2008 and into 2009 they have risen every month on month  and created a new record for web based sales for us.

These internet sales alone have given us the freedom to live in an isolated Blue Ridge farm during summers and in Florida and Ecuador the rest of the year…yet still earn many tens of thousands of extra dollars a month.

multi-currency-debt

Merri and I walk to our Blue Ridge office to speak with a group about how to have an internet business.

Now you can learn everything I do to create this extra income and have fun and fulfillment in a micro publishing business.

ecuador-internet-business

Merri and I work during the winter in the sunny courtyard at the Cotacachi Andean hotel we own and keep profitable due to our internet business.

The syllabus of this course will help you learn how to find something that is fun, fulfilling and profitable for you to do.

ecuador-internet-business

We often take breaks and visit our Ecuador beach condo, where I can still work because my internet business keeps me earning wherever I am in the world.

ecuador-internet-business

In the summer I can even work in the woods with our hound dog, Ma.

Our growing income is one reason I want to share this course with you.

The economic downturn of 2008 means that more of my readers will need a new way to earn in the years ahead so my webmaster who helped me start this site has agreed to co-write the course with me.

In the course Merri and I explain what we do in the business.  The writing…the marketing…the product planning and such.

Our webmaster outlines the technical part. How to chose a server…set up a shopping cart…create pay per click systems…send thousands of emails a day.

The course comes is composed of three studies.

Study one of the course is a course in its own right entitled International Business Made EZ

Study two is the course Self Fulfilled How to be a Self Publisher

Study three is “The Tangled Webs We Weave” and looks at all the technical aspects of developing a web based business including:

* How to set up the website.

* How to use shopping carts.

* How to create pages.

* How to develop reader lists.

* How to create electronic products and income.

* How to get good search engine rankings. (See an excerpt on this here).

* How to gain tax advantages from an International web based business.

* How to stay small and yet create big profits.

Though we like to remain small, this does not mean all of our students will.  Our webmaster started with us first but since has grown to be the chief internet consultant for several much larger internet marketing companies that send over a billion emails a year!

This course entitled “Tangled Webs We Weave – How to Have Your Own Internet Business” is available at $299.

This is a bargain. Merri and I have been traveling and doing international business for 41 years. We have had a web based business for over ten years. You can share everything we have learned for just $299.

Plus we provide our standard full guarantee. Enroll.  Try the course for 30 days. If not satisfied we’ll give you an immediate, full… no fuss refund.

Patience in Micro Business

Patience in a Micro Business

In these times of change the best ways to gain opportunity are with real estate, commodities, stocks and your own business… if you have patience.

For those who want to live full or part time in Ecuador, buying real estate is one good way to gain extra profit if you are patient.

We looked at ideas on patience in our last two messages. See Ecuador Patience here and Ecuador Property Insights Here.

Patience is important in business and real estate anywhere.

We took six years to find our first farm in North Carolina and three years to buy it… sticking to our offer and making it again and again once ever year for three years.   Slowly over the years we added about eight miles of roads.  You can see the roads on the farm in blue here.

ecuador-patience

The roads are to special parts of the farm like these huge hemlocks we call the Grandfathers.  That’s me dwarfed by the tree.

ecuador-patience

We pushed in miles of trail through woods and …

ecuador-patience glen.

ecuador-patience

Our small herd of horses love it… pastures are more accessible. This is Lucy Appaloosa,  leader of the herd.

ecuador-patience

A buyer would love it as well.  Our patience in building these roads has dramatically increased the farm’s value.

Good business requires more than just patience.  The seven qualities for good investing and business we reviewed in the first of this series were:

#1: Bravery to accept risk

#2: Flexibility

#3: Resilience

#4: Tenacity

#5: Acceptance

#6: Bird’s eye view

#7: Patience

Having a bird’s eye view helped us see that the value of our North Carolina farm and our Ecuador property could also be increased with the internet. The world wide web allows us to run a business from either remote place.

This is why we have created our Tangled Web course and are expanding the business portion of our International Business and Investing Seminar.

This bird’s eye view is also why we have been providing readers with a free course on how to use “Site-Build-It” to create an internet business written by our friend and student Michelle Toole.

Michelle just sent this note.

Hi Gary,  I hope this note finds both you and Merri doing well…….attached is my article for this month.

Life is truly a great adventure…  Much Love to You Both, Michelle

Here is Michelle’s 36th lesson

How ‘Sticky’ is Your Web Site?

by Michelle Toole

Building your own web site can get you into some ‘sticky’ situations and that is exactly where you want to be!

When most of us hear the word ‘sticky’ we think of honey or some yummy gooey goodie, but to a web site owner ‘sticky’ means one thing, MONEY!  That’s right, in the world of e-commerce ‘sticky’ refers to how long a visitor stays on your web site and of course the longer a visitor stays on your web site the better chance of turning them into customers.

According to Webopedia.com:

“sticky refers to a site’s ability to keep visitors on the site once they have navigated there or encourage the visitor to return frequently (i.e., the visitors ‘stick’ to the site).

“A site’s stickiness depends on the content of the site that encourages the visitors to remain there but is not necessarily what the visitors went to the site looking for. For example, in addition to original content that may be the main reason for visits, a site may add a glossary, stock quotes, games, community forums, news feeds and/or chat rooms to make the site more appealing to visitors. Also, sites can add special features to set themselves apart from competitors, such as the ability to communicate with the content’s authors, the ability to personalize the site, contests, and numerous hyperlinks to other pages of the site — all elements that entice a visitor not just to stay on the site but to return frequently.”

So, what makes a visitor leave your site?  What makes your site lack ‘stickiness’?   Well, they are likely the same things that make you leave a web site in the first place:

•    Irrelevant content, bad spelling and poor grammar
•    Information is too difficult to find
•    Long paragraphs of text without text formatting
•    Cluttered text and graphics
•    Too much advertising
•    Long lists of products
•    Unattractive look and distracting colors

OK, so now that you know what NOT to do, what can you do to increase your site’s ‘stickiness’?  Below are the top 5 steps a web site owner should take to increase ‘stickiness’ and get that most wanted response, cha-ching!

1. Interactive

Getting a reader to get involved on your web site means that they’ve invested in your web site and this increases the likelihood that they’ll return time and time again. You can make your site more interactive by adding:

•    Comments
•    Polls
•    Forums
•    Posting reader feedback

Don’t forget that being interactive takes follow-through.  Responding to comments, questions and forums posts will keep readers coming back and help you build not only a rapport with your readers but develop that all important ‘brand of one.’

2. Bookmark IT and Socialize IT

A lot of sites forget this simple but effective way to encourage return visits to their web site, just bookmark it!  Remind visitors to bookmark your site. Also adding social networking links and buttons to all of your pages is an effective way to encourage new readers as well as create reader loyalty.

3. Content is KING

Don’t forget the obvious; readers are coming to your site for your INFORMATION!  You must have useful, unique and entertaining CONTENT! Without great content people are not going to ‘STICK’ much less come back for a second look!

4. Build for Speed and Keeping it Simple

Making your site navigation easy to use and clear will encourage readers to stay on your site longer and return more often.  Remember the faster and easier the navigation, the happier your reader and ‘potential customer’ will be.
Keep in mind that page load time is essential to drawing readers into your site. If each page takes a minute or longer to load it’s not very likely that someone is going to ‘stick’ around!

5. Publish your own ezine

Creating an e-zine is an excellent way to build readership and encourage return visitors to your site as well as increase site ‘stickiness.’  Publishing an e-zine also helps you establish your credibility, build trust, and establish a rapport with your audience. Ongoing communication keeps your Web site in the forefront of your visitor’s mind, ensuring that s/he will return to it time and time again to check your updates and give us that all important ‘most wanted response’, BECOME A CUSTOMER!

Look for my future articles where we discuss monetization options, search engine optimization, incoming links, e-zine techniques, link exchange programs and much more…..

You can check out Michelle’s web sites at http://healthy-holistic-living.com  and http://home-remedies-and-natural-cures.com.  To get more great tips, like the ones above and to see how and what tools she used to create a successful on-line business go to http://sitesell-sbi.com

Until next message may your bird’s eye view be patient!

What you get when you subscribe to Pi.

You immediately receive a 120 page basic training course that teaches the Pi Strategy.   You learn all the Pi strategies, what they are, how to use them and what each can do for you, your lifestyle and investing.

You also begin receiving regular emailed Pifiolio updates and online access to all the Pifolio updates of the last two years.  Each update examines the current activity in a Pifolio, how it is changing, why and how the changes might help your investing or not.

Included in the basic training is an additional 120 page PDF value analysis of 46 stock markets (23 developed markets and 23 emerging stock markets).  This analysis looks at the price to book, price to earnings, average yield and much more.

Tens of thousands have paid up to $999 to attend.

In 2018 I celebrate my 52nd anniversary in the investing business and 50th year of writing about global investing.  Our reports and seminars have helped readers have better lives, with less stress yet make fortunes during up and down markets for decades.  This information is invaluable to investors large and small because even small amounts can easily be invested in the good value shares we cover in our seminar.

Cotacachi Spa & Ecuador Web Business

Cotacachi’s (perhaps Ecuador’s)  most famous spa is La Mirage and seeing it could help you own your own Ecuador business.

cotacachi-spa

In a moment, there is a link to some great shots of La Mirage by Todd Smith.

However it is Todd’s success with his web business after attending our course that I want to share.

The global economy is going though a much needed cleanse.    A recent USA Today article reports that census numbers show that a record one in nine U.S. housing units are vacant, including about 3% of owned homes. The Mortgage Bankers Association says more than 2 million homeowners faced foreclosure last year. The median sales price dropped 12%, according to the National Association of Realtors — far more in parts of Arizona, California, Florida and Michigan.

This inventory is delaying any kind of housing recovery and will dampen the job market for some time.  This is especially true because of the lack of demand.

One in nine means that 14 million housing units are vacant. USA Today says: That number does not include an estimated 4.8 million seasonal or vacation homes, most of which are occupied part of the year. The combined vacancy rate of almost 15% is higher than during previous recessions: 11% in 1991 and 9.4% in 1984.

• About 3% of owned homes are vacant. In normal times, “maybe 1% should be vacant.”

This means we should not expect to see any economic recovery soon.

A recent New York Times article entitled “U.S. Is Pressed to Add Billions to Bailouts”  by Edmund L. Andrews, Andrew Ross Sorkin  and Mary Williams Walsh says:  The government faced mounting pressure on Monday to put billions more in some of the nation’s biggest banks, two of the biggest automakers and the biggest insurance company, despite the billions it has already committed to rescuing them.

The government’s boldest rescue to date, its $150 billion commitment for the insurance giant American International Group, is foundering. A.I.G. indicated on Monday it was now negotiating for tens of billions of dollars in additional assistance as losses have mounted.

Separately, the Obama administration confirmed it was in discussions to aid Citigroup, the recipient of $45 billion so far, that could raise the government’s stake in the banking company to as much as 40 percent.

The Treasury Department named a special adviser to work with General Motors and Chrysler, two of Detroit’s biggest automakers, which are seeking $22 billion on top of the $17 billion already granted to them.

All these companies’ mushrooming needs reflect just how hard it is to stanch the flow of losses as the economy deteriorates. Even though the government’s finances are being stretched — and still more aid might be needed in the future — it is being forced to fill the growing holes in the finances of these companies out of fear that the demise of an important company could set off a chain reaction.

This means the government is creatng more money then it has and we are likely to see inflation.

So what can we do?

One is buy real estate in California, Florida and some of the other hard hit states. There will be real bargains.  Merri are headed to Florida as fast as soon as we wrap up our March tours in Ecuador.

Start our own business. No other time offers such great opportunity. The old boys network is slashed. Big business cannot compete and labor has not been so abundant in decades.

This is why Todd Smith sets such a great example.

Todd attended one of our courses on how to self publish and has developed a growing, thriving internet business.

See Todd’s latest emailed message about La Mirage here.

Here are two important points about Todd’ success.

First he already had a successful wedding photography business. However hat type of business did not have the upside potential nor offer the freedom he desired.

Second he was not enjoying the business. The hours and the types of photography did not fit Todd’s desires.  He had a passion to earn in a different type of  photography.

So he turned his passion into profit!

Due to numerous successes like Todd’s and because of  the ideal business conditions created by the economic correction, I have developed a new course... The Tangled Webs We Weave…A Web Based  Business Course

Enroll here $299

You own web business provides enormous freedom.  You can like anywhere you desire…  a Cotacachi business is great. This is a quiet peaceful place without much crime, noise or pollution.    Merri and I  have have a web business that works in Cotacachi, the Blue Ridge of North Carolina or anywhere we choose in the world?

The reason we can have this freedom in business is passion.

I am one of the luckiest guys in the world because my children are continually doing things that I learn from.  This allows me to be a bragging dad and actually share a worthwhile point in the process.

For example Merri and I recently were reminded of the most important secret of business success from our youngest daughter, Eleanor.   Here is a shot of Merri and me riding the Virgina Creeper Trail last summer with Ele.

Cotacachi-business

Eleanor is just 27 but has already built a very successful London based business that not only provides her a six figure income, but gives her the freedom to travel the world.  This last year, she visited us twice in the US plus spent time in China  enjoying the Olympics and made numerous other trips.  She has over four months of each year to travel wherever she desires…and earn as she goes.

While she was last with us, we had a great deal of time to talk and she surprised me by sharing a valuable lessons about business.

The first lesson came when she was telling me about her latest efforts at getting some of her students auditions and roles in London West End shows.  Ele started as an entrepreneur early. She owns a performing arts school in London that teaches dancing,  drama and singing.  Here are some of her students in the production of Aladdin they are currently performing.

New-year-economic-lesson

Ele’s school is a franchised operation…one of about 600.  She is one of the youngest owners yet has one of the top ten busiest schools.

One reason for her success is the enormous energy and passion she puts into her business.  Another reason for  her success is she has a growing reputation for getting her students professional roles in the London theater.

She currently has eight of her students working in London’s West End.

Two are in the Sound of Music at the London Palladium on Argyll Street.

Two are in Rodger and Hammerstein’s Carousel at the Savoy on the Strand.

One is  in Disney’s  Lion King, at the Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street.

One is in Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

I was a bit surprised at this success and asked her “what is your trick”.  She replied:

“This is very simple.  I give the children who have extra talent free lessons. I bring them to my home and work with them there.”

When I questioned the wisdom of giving away her services as being part of a good business model, she replied:

“This is not about the money, Dad. The thrill of hearing those kids when they call me and tell  they were selected is worth every minute I put into this. I love those calls so much,  I am happy to devote my time and effort.”

This is the secret. Do what you love and figure out how to make money in the process.

In Ele’s case, she has profited indirectly…but the profit is not the purpose.  This is a matter of fulfillment and of the heart.

This has always been an important idea, but grows in importance now.  Our message about the upcoming 2011 disaster showed an economic distortion that is so grave it will force many of us to continue working… or  to work more then expected or… to start working for oneself when an existing job is eliminated.

This problem is so acute and the importance of having more people do what they love is so vital that we have decided to write a new course…on how to develop your own international internet business.

I have now started this course and before I launch it to the public want to make a special offer…that gives you this course free…or more.

Years ago, Merri and I  had 23,000 print readers…micro sized in publishing terms….but very, very profitable for us.  We made millions from this business.  We believe that in this rapidly changing world…small is beautiful.

When money stopped mattering as much, our children were grown, finished with university, we sold our print business and took a year off…lived with a shaman high in the Andes.

Then we morphed into an internet only business.  Our readership began small, with  about 1,600 email readers.  We expected to slow down and smell the roses more.  We even bought an isolated hacienda high in the Andes called Rosaspamba (Place of roses).

How small?

Today, our business remains micro sized but we have grown from 1,600 readers to four  main subscription lists consisting of 16,782 subscribers.

How safe?

The downturn of 2008 has not slowed us a bit.   In fact we  are growing faster, in number of subscribers and income, than ever.   December 2008 was our busiest month on the internet ever…by about 50%! January and February 2009 were up 226% over January and February of 2008.  This March we have almost surpassed March 2008 sales in the first ten days.

This is all at  a time when many say the world is economically depressed. Yet our sales are way up and growing almost every month.

How profitable?

Our list and sales are still tiny compared to many of our competitors and associates who make millions a month.   We make tens of thousands…sometimes hundreds.

Yet we have been able to add this extra income with a surprisingly small amount of added overheads.  This number works perfectly for Merri and me…a fun sized readership. In our opinion, this should be the key in business… satisfaction… fulfillment and fun…through service along with the profit.

Yet, profits do matter. Almost every month our internet sales have been rising. In 2008 they rose nearly every month and created a new record for web based sales for us.

These internet sales alone have given us the freedom to live in an isolated Blue Ridge farm during summers and in Ecuador the rest of the year…yet still earn many tens of thousands of extra dollars a month.

Now you can learn everything I do to create this extra income and have fun and fulfillment in a micro publishing business.

The syllabus of this course will help you learn how to find something that is fun, fulfilling and profitable for you to do.

Our growing income is one reason I have decided to create this course.

Second, the economic downturn of 2008 means that more of my readers will need a new way to earn in the years ahead.

Yet the third reason was the straw that made me decide to do this….my webmaster who helped me start this site agreed to co-write the course with me. Merri and I explain what we do in the business.  The writing…the marketing…the product planning and such.   Our webmaster outlines the technical part. How to chose a server…set up a shopping cart…create pay per click systems…send thousands of emails a day.

Though we like to remain small, this does not mean all of our students will.  Our webmaster started with us first but since has grown to be the chief internet consultant for several much larger internet marketing companies that send over a billion emails a year!

We are explaining in the course in detail as we develop it over this year…what I will share and what my webmaster will share as well…how the course will help you.  We are at chapter eight now and I honestly do not know everything what will be in the course.

Previous courses have always evolved as they are written because of the questions that are asked as the lessons are sent.

This is why I want to offer this emailed course (which has not yet be written) now so you can grow with the course as it evolves.

Here is a  special offer.

Nicki Goff, a good friend, neighbor of ours in Cotacachi and  a graduate of our publishing course, just wrote about quinoa.

First, she wrote this:

Gary, Your writing course is being put to good use! I’ve articles on ezinearticles.com as well as hubpages so far, trying to make one post
per day. My plans are to continue writing, with a blog in the near
future focused on all aspects of healthy diet.

Here are excerpts from Nicki’s Quinoa article.

Introduction to Quinoa

Quinoa (keen-wah) has its origins in the high upper Andes. The Incas credited quinoa with medicinal and magical properties, and held the crop to be sacred, referred to quinoa as “chisaya mama” or “mother of all grains”. The Inca emperor would traditionally sow the first seeds of the season using ‘golden implements’. It has been in continuous cultivation in Colombia. Ecuador. Peru, Bolivia. Chile and Argentina for over 6000 years. Both the seeds and the young leaves can be used as food.

During the European conquest of South America quinoa was scorned by the Spanish colonists as “food for Indians,” and its cultivation and use was actively suppressed, due to its status within indigenous ceremonies. Today, it is returning to commercial favor as a grain in these countries, although it still shares first place with corn as the primary indigenous grain.

Quinoa is close to being a perfect food source in the balance of nutrition it provides. Not a grain but a seed, quinoa is related to the leafy vegetables, Swiss chard and spinach.

Quinoa is an excellent source of protein – 12% to 18%, one of the best sources of complete protein in the vegetable kingdom. Quinoa is a source of all essential amino acids, including the amino acid lysine which helps the body produce protein. Lysine also helps the body process the protein in the quinoa and in other foods. The World Health Organization has rated the quality of protein in quinoa to be equivalent or superior to that found in milk products.

Quinoa is a great source of B vitamins, potassium and riboflavin. It’s also a good source of zinc, copper, manganese, magnesium, folic acid, vitamin E and fiber.

Mango Quinoa Salad

This is my all-time favourite quinoa recipe. It serves 4 as a side dish or 2 as a main dish.

* 1 cup quinoa
* 2 cups water
* 1/4 teaspoon salt
* 1 mango
* 1/2 cup cucumber
* 1/4 cup blanched almonds
* 2 tablespoon roasted pumpkin seeds

Dressing:

* 1 teaspoon Ghee (clarified butter)
* 1 teaspoon turmeric
* 1 lime or half a lemon, juiced
* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
* Salt and freshly ground black pepper

Wash quinoa and boil in water for 10 minutes, Let sit until quinoa absorbs all the water. Fluff with a fork and let it cool to room temperature.

Peel the mango and cut into cubes. Dice the cucumber, and add to mango along with the almonds and pumpkin seeds.

To make the dressing, heat Ghee in a small pan and fry with turmeric for 30 seconds, then let it cool. Add the lemon or lime juice. Mix in olive oil, cilantro, salt and pepper.

Add the cooled quinoa to the mango mixture, pour the dressing over the salad, and toss.

Chilean Quinoa Tabouleh

* 2 cups Quinoa
* 4 cups water
* 1/4 tsp salt
* 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
* 5 tbsp fresh lemon juice
* 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
* 1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh cilantro leaves
* 2 tsp minced garlic
* 1 cup fresh corn kernels, cooked
* 1 cup finely chopped red onion
* 4 plum tomatoes cut into (1/2-dice)
* 1 cup diced (1/2 inch) cucumbers
* 1 ripe avocado, pitted, peeled and cut into 1/2 inch dice

Place Quinoa in a medium-sized pan, add the water, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer, covered, until the liquid is absorbed, 12 to 15 minutes. The Quinoa should be translucent. Remove from heat and fluff it with a fork. Transfer the Quinoa to a large bowl and cool to room temperature.

Sprinkle the quinoa with the salt and pepper and stir, folding from underneath the grains. Fold in 4 tablespoons of the lemon juice and the oil. Gently fold in the cilantro and garlic. Toss the avocado with remaining tablespoon of lemon juice to prevent discoloration. Fold the corn, onion, tomatoes, cucumbers and avocado into the Quinoa. Adjust the seasonings to taste. Serve at room temperature within 2 hours of preparation. Serves 8 to 10.

You can read Nicki’s entire article on quinoa with more recipes including Quinoa Salad Pita Pockets and Crunchy Quinoa Peanut Butter Cookies.

Quinoa is also great with fruit and we have just about every kind here in Ecuador.

Ecuador roses are very reasonably priced.  The freight to the US is the big cost and here comes the bad news.

Two days ago, Roberto Ribadeneira, our flower supplier for Ecuador roses, sent me this note.

Gary I had a meeting with Fedex in which we talked about a freight change and they explained that small boxes of 50 roses are as expensive as big ones. They are raising minimum freight to that of larger boxes.  This changes our final prices a lot. It is the same cost for a box of 50 roses as one that holds 100 roses.  The new prices will be as follow:  50 roses $60.00.  100 roses $90.00 delivered.

This is the bad news about Ecuador roses.

More good news is we’ll keep our policy of charging just $19 more than our cost and donate $20 to help Ecuador’s poor.

Even better news is that you can still order 50 fresh premium Ecuador roses for at a lower  price than anywhere else.

I checked the internet.

1800flowers offers 36 Martha Stewart Roses for $259.00.

Flowerbud.com offers 50 premium roses for $135.

48longstems.com offers 50 roses for only $69…plus shipping… $22.94
or a total 91.94.

www.overstock.com offers 50 roses for $94.99.

So $79 for 50 fresh cut, premium roses, including Fedex overnight delivery, is a great price. Even better, you can order 100 premium roses for only $119 at Fresh Ecuador Roses.

This is still a great value.

We are now accepting Easter rose orders and Ecuador Easter lily orders.

On the subject of value, here is a good value Ecuador property for sale.

Lee Carper, one of Cotacachi’s residents, (Lee has been here about a year)  has been helping delegates find find low end sales and rentals.

Lee found this house near our hotel that has some interesting potential… and nice views.  Meson de las Flores is at the Cathedral… so this shot from the roof shows…

ecuador-fresh-roses how close it is.  Nice views from the ground floor as well.

ecuador-fresh-roses

What makes this house interesting is that it is on two floors… each has a kitchen, dining and…

ecuador-fresh-roses

living areas…plus

ecuador-fresh-roses

Plus bedrooms so it could be converted easily into two apartments.

ecuador-fresh-roses

Yet the asking price is only $62,000. With Ecuador property prices rising, due to increased cost of building material, this represents good value.

Until next message, may your life be filled with flowers and good value!

Ecuador Beach View & River Property

How would you like to live here… on this Ecuador beach view & river property?

Ecuador-beach-property-for-sale

How would you like to own your own 232 acre Ecuador beach view & river estate with three rivers and a iew of this beach… plus world class ocean views like this?  and…

Ecuador-beach-river-property

land like this.

Ecuador-beach-river-property

Many recent messages have pointed out that the area on Ecuador’s coast that has the greatest and fastest potential lies north of Manta to the town of Bahia de Caraquez.

However my feeling is that the greatest long term potential comes north of Bahia in areas such as San Vicente, Jamas  and Perdenales.

Manta airport is the key. This is where the growth traffic will come from an international point of view… and the gringo market is a big one… very important.

Here is the area for rapid growth now.
ecuador-coastal-property

Distance and the Chone Estuary makes it impractical for international tourism to go north of Bahia at this time.

However…

ecuador-beach-property

the areas north of Bahia are closer to Quito…  a major local market and… when the bridge across the Chone is finished (it has started…but completion dates are unknown)  the area north could boom.  The Chone barrier has kept some prices down.

This is why I was especially interested in an advertisement sent to me by Anne McCowan. She has 232 acres for sale divided in five parcels with spectacular ocean views.

She has to sell in a hurry and has dropped her price from $750,000 to $350,000…for… all five parcels… the entire 232 acres…

She wrote:

Dear Gary, I really want to sell all the property at once.  My partner is now having some health issues. I was offering to sell half the property in five parcels for $750,000 total.  To sell quickly I have dropped the asking price to $350,000 for the entire 232 acres.

Large building site overlooks ocean, shows power poles.

ecuador-beach-property-for-sale

Large building site.

ecuador-beach-property-for-sale

Our roads to crop land are very good.

ecuador-beach-property-for-sale

Another large building site.

ecuador-beach-property-for-sale

Here is Anne’s advertisement.

This land has building sites, crop land, roads, power, water cisterns and panoramic views of the ocean.

One site has a 250 degree, panoramic view of the ocean, resembling a hilltop in Malibu  with acreage on top but also with a nearby monkey colony.

One site has 2,000 fine aroma cocao plants and 2,000 plantain plants.

There is cropland all situated next to this huge river for easy irrigation.

This is all natural, virginal property.  The buyer will own all 232 acres.

Every time I get off the plane, I become physically and mentally rejuvenated within 2 days.

This is perhaps one of the healthiest and safest place left on the planet.

Four of the parcels have incredible views of the ocean and one has an acre of prime, flat crop land with a large river as its border.

Concrete pillars for a house are already in place so you can build your paradise home the way you want for about 5% what it would cost in the U.S.

One of the the best and most experienced (40 some years combined experience in the office ) real lawyers on the coast is familiar with the land so title work should be easy.

In this area there is surfing, snorkeling, hiking horse-back riding, mountain climbing, jungle excursions, Galapagos trips, fishing ( from swordfish to you name it. ) boating (there are several sailboats and yachts with Americans anchored and love taking people around by water), jet skis, walking along glorious beaches with spectacular sunrises and sunsets.

There is very low humidity on the coast. The temperature averages 70 degrees year around!

Imagine laying in your hot tub out on your balcony sipping fresh fruit drinks brought by your maid and having this awesome view absorbed by every cell in your body and soul!

The largest site is about the size of a football field with total unequaled views of the ocean in front and mountains in back. (where a family of monkeys live).

This site has 25 acres of excellent rolling hills below.

The second site is nearly 40 ares with the same views, but higher up. This site is  leveled and prepped and primed for building (for that matter, all sites are.)

The third site has the best view, smaller with 10 acres of hillside.

The fourth is the new site with a 250 degree awesome view of the ocean. This  is higher up the mountain so you can see the changes of the colors of the ocean. You could build a circular, huge home and have acreage for crops.  The last site is is flat crop land with the largest river on the property as its border. The concrete pillars for a small home are already in. This site comes with 1 acre, and fruit trees, but no ocean view unless you build a multi story house.

There are three rivers on the property, fresh water cisterns, new power lines and new, beautiful 30′ wide roads all in place.

The rivers are fresh water coming off the mountains going into the ocean. No tidal flow affects purity. No salinity.

Over 500 monkeys of varying species live on the property.

In some places we have measured the top soil to be four feet thick.

Always fresh food from every kind of fruit imaginable to fresh exotic sea fish and lobster right at your doorstep, fresh lobster, red snapper, wahoo, shrimp, Chilean sea bass, etc.     Shrimp are virtually everywhere from farm raised to caught straight out of the ocean for next to nothing

Labor is $5.00 per day for a machetero, maid, cook or whatever you need or desire. Some helpers double as maid/cook/housekeeper for the same price!

Hospitals are modern and only cost $15.00 plus the cost of medicine if needed.

The villagers are the most friendly I’ve met in my extensive travels, and will literally watch over and protect you once you’re accepted and become “one of the family.”

There is virtually no crime!

There is little fear of earthquakes, rising oceans, or tsunamis, as the property is well up the mountain overlooking 200 degree vistas of nothing but ocean.

The Arch de L’Amor National Historical Natural Monument is located adjacent to the property, on the beach.

There you have it…great farming… friendly village… good weather… incredible views and a reasonable price.

We are not involved in this sale in any way, but I believe she is trying to organize a guide to take any delegates at our March 17-18 real estate tour to see the property on March 19.

If you would like more information please contact the seller Anne McCowan at annem2@yahoo.com

Ecuador Shamans & Essential Oil

Ecuador shamans use essential oils in their healing ceremonies and in many other ways.

While living in Ecuador with the shamans, Merri, I and our friend Candace Newman learned many additions to existing healing techniques with essential oils.

Here is Candace with a Taita Yatchak, our daughter Francesca and friends at Machu Pichu.

Ecuador-shamans

Essential oils offer many health balancing features and can be delivered though breath, the skin, the soles of our feet and the palms of our hands.

Ecuador shamanic healing wisdom, uses essential oils and the palms of our hands because our hearts extend to others through our palms.

Ecuador shamans hold the hands in high regard as the instruments for giving and receiving….which they view as a scared act. In Ecuadorian agriculture for example the elders are given the sacred honor of planting the seeds. Special bags (shigras) are woven from the threads of the Cabuya  (Agave or Century Plant).

Here I am with an Ecuador shaman next to a Cabuya.

ecuador-shamans

These long leaves are then scrapped by a master.

ecuador-shamans

Until the pulp is removed and all that is left are fibers.

ecuador-shamans

This is the raw material of the shigra.

ecuador-shamans

This fiber is then hand died and woven into these colorful bags.

ecuador-shamans

The bags are worn over the heart in the seed spreading ceremony… not around the waist where it would seem easiest to cast the seeds.  The seed must be given from the heart and the hands.  Shigras have been part of women’s daily life since Pre-Columbian times. Archeologists have found similar bags that are 1000 years old! Why have they withstood the test of time?  Because they are part of the sacred giving of life.

In and out. This is life… the law of action and reaction.  We cannot have one without the other and most of this process takes place through the hands…. and this means giving and taking from the heart.

Once a Taita Yatcak (the highest of shamans) in Ecuador explained that banks were places of great energy.  When we receive money, he told us, we should always receive it with the left hand… the hand of receiving.  When we give money… always with the right…. subtle but powerful energy!  From the subtle, we are formed.

Candace writes about the palms of our hands:

Healing Palms with Essential Oils in Ecuador

In developing our Touch With Oils® work over the last 17 years of private appointments, retreat work and Hospice, I noticed that the most comfortable and familiar place for one to be touched is the hands. Feet and face can be uncomfortable and invasive for some people. Shaking hands is an acceptable way to greet people, and a way of extending a welcome. So we are already used to touching with our hands. They are also easy to get to!

The palms of our hands, like the soles of our feet, are a highly absorptive part of our body. These are excellent pathways for the benefits of essential oils to enter our systems. The two most common places for reflexology are hands and feet. We reach into the core of our body through our palms, just like the soles of our feet. The fingers have reflex points for head, sinus, and face tension. An overall gentle hand massage can balance the autonomic nervous system and change the way we feel in minutes. It’s also a wonderful tool to have for helping others.

One day during my month’s stay at Rosaspamba, the Ecuador Shaman said one of his apprentices was in bed with a stomach ache and would I help him…..so out come the palms of my hands to the rescue.  I made a little puddle of Jojoba oil in my palm and added 2 drops of pure Peppermint essential oil.  I applied a little to his nose first to get the “Peppermint Medicine” into his system (through the biochemistry of the nose-brain connection)…and then did a slow gentle belly rub.

Later as I sat on the steps of the little “cabin”,  looking out over the tops of the Andes mountain range,

Ecuador-shamans

Candace at our hacienda, Rosaspamba.

I noticed  a place in the mountains that looks just like the palm of a hand open towards the sky. Just an awesome sight, as if the mountains were making an offering to us as we rest in their sanctuary of nature. I have always said “God’s grandest cathedral is Nature….in all her majestic garb”.

Ecuador-shamans

Candace’s view.

There was another time in the hotel in Quito where a Palm Blend of Jojoba and a drop of Peppermint helped another person in the group with belly rubs due to an upset stomach. Then after a long day in the van visiting areas outside Quito, another traveler was feeling queasy and a little hypoglycemic due to lack of food. This time I put 1 drop of pure Peppermint straight in her palm, had her rub her palms together, cup her nose, close her eyes and breathe deeply.  Essential oils are so strong,  the effects from this palm cupping is immediate.

All we need to do is show up with the palms of our hands….and a little bit of oil.  Peppermint is a necessary for traveling.

SPECIAL NOTES:

Using pure high-grade essential oils can prevent allergic reactions while the medicinal properties help  protect your health.

Several oils can irritate the skin if applied full strength-peppermint, orange, lemon especially.  Always combine with base oil before applying to skin.

Cotacachi Sun

One huge benefit of Cotacachi is the sun. Even January to March which is the rainy season in Cotacachi, there is plenty of sun.  I watch it rise behind the Cathedral each day.  Here he comes!

cotacachi-sun

This year Cotacachi has been cloudy, but rained all day only one day.  Merri and I walk early every morning  and have only been wet one time since early January.  The weather varies through the day…starting in the higb 40s or low 50s and working up into the 70s.

This makes farming and gardening great.  The fields are volcanic rich.  We walk here daily. The planting was a couple of weeks ago.  Now the beans are coming up fast.

cotacachi-sun

There is a chance to have plenty of Cotacachi sun almost every day. This is really good for health because the sun produces Vitamin D.

Dr. Mercola recently posted an article at his site which says:

A meta-analysis of 18 randomized controlled trials has found that supplemental vitamin D significantly reduces mortality from all causes.

The analysis emphasizes the medical, ethical, and legal implications of promptly diagnosing and adequately treating vitamin D deficiency.

Not only are such deficiencies common, but vitamin D deficiency is implicated in most of the diseases of civilization. Vitamin D’s final metabolic product targets more than 200 human genes in a wide variety of tissues. One of the most important genes vitamin D up-regulates is for cathelicidin, a naturally occurring broad-spectrum antibiotic.

Since vitamin D deficiency is both endemic and is associated with numerous diseases, it is one of the most important medical problems in modern society. Treatment of vitamin D deficiency in otherwise healthy patients must be individualized due to the numerous factors affecting vitamin D levels. Steps should be taken to keep patients with chronic diseases associated with vitamin D deficiency, especially internal cancers, in the higher normal range of vitamin D blood levels.

Those who come and stay always report feeling better and losing inches.

Part of this is the sun…part the fresh food. The markets and shops are filled with really inexpensive fruit and vegetables of all types. Here is a typical display.

cotacachi-sun Our friend Richard Goebel who looks after the farm wrote: It’s been so cold ,windy and snowy today that the geese stayed really close to home.

When even the geese are cold, it’s a good time to be on the equator in the Cotacachi sun.

We hope we’ll see you in Cotacachi or on the coast to enjoy the sun!
