What R U Going 2 Do – Part Three “EKIGAI”

The power of “ekigai” can cure so many ills we see in the world.

Photo from National Geographic video... see more below.

That’s the power of capitalism…  to create “EKIGAI” that can help overcome poverty, inflation, illness, crime… giving and serving through trade can eradicate them all.

This is why we created our course International Business Made EZ  (IBEZ) course to help people have a better “EKIGAI”.

See what “EKIGAI” means below.

Now we are making real businesses available to subscribers of the IBEZ course.  Our recent message Global Freedom introduced how we are working with a dozen companies to create special starter packages and training programs and how we are starting first with these five businesses.

#1: Jyske Global Asset Management  (JGAM)

#2: Ecuador Imbabura Export Products

#3: Bio Wash

#4: Essential Oils

#5: Roses

We are not involved with these businesses (other than we love, use and recommend their products). We won’t make a penny from any reader’s business with them. These ARE NOT franchises or MLM deals.   Our only goal is to make our courses more effective and our subscribers more successful so they have more “EKIGAI”.

This message looks at Imbabura Ecuador Export Products and I want to especially focus on benefits of exporting beyond the profit… the “EKIGAI”.

One benefit of serving others is longevity.  There is a great short video at the National Geographic site entitled  “Longevity, the Secrets of Long Life, Sights & Sounds.”  This is where I learned the word “EKIGAI” that describes what I have always known and valued.I have linked the video at the end of this message and recommend your taking a look.

One of National Geographic’s explorers studied three areas where the residents were especially long lived, Okinawa, Sardinia and Loma Linda, California.

Some of the conclusions we should expect… Traditional natural food…  Social interaction with friends, family…  taking days off….not becoming marginalized… plus having ekigai… the phrase those in Okinawa use as “A Reason to Wake Up”.

The video sadly also points out that two of these long lived areas… Okinawa and Sardinia are losing their longevity qualities.  Families are breaking up.  Older generations are being marginalized.

Technology is driving stakes between generations. The busy life modern technology gives everyone and the ability to travel… to learn and communicate globally almost instantly is replacing (and in most places has replaced) the genetic and location centered social interaction of the family.   That life is very much gone and like Pandora, modern social ways will be hard to put back in the box!

The same technology however allows us to create our own new families and friends almost anywhere through service in business.  Take an Ecuador exports business as an example.

When you become an exporter you create your own family… your customers and your suppliers… bringing them together through your expanded horizons of the world.  No one doing something this good is marginalized!

Bonnie Keough on A Team Ecuador reports how families are being created on her export tours right now.

These are photos of the Sergovia family.

This indigenous family lives in the countryside near Cotacachi.  They all work together in the family weaving business.  The males do the weaving, the females spin the fleece into yarn and dye it with natural colors.

When I first visited them in 2010 they had no electricity and no indoor plumbing in their house.  It was basically one large room with a dirt floor.  This is where the family lived and worked.  The room was filled with large looms, yarn and a bed.

ecuador export images

They had candles in wire hangers over the looms so they could see to weave after dark.

Their home and yard was neat as a pin and they were very happy to have our export tour visit them.  Currently, their goods are sold by only a few vendors in Otavalo.

My first tour to visit their workshop was in September, 2010.  They welcomed us into  their home and demonstrated their weaving skills for us.

The delegates enjoyed meeting this hard working family and bought many of their products.  They gained a much better appreciation of all the time and skill involved in making these traditional Ecuadorian handicrafts.

I returned with a tour in November.  One of the delegates on the tour has a wholesale business and placed a very large order with the family. He ordered 500 tablerunners from them.

I saw this family’s eyes light up when they realized he was serious.  They promised delivery in two weeks and they delivered the complete order on time.

When I returned to their home with my January 2011 tour group, I was happy to see an electric service box on the outside of their house.  This was tangible progress. There was no electricity yet, but it was in the works.

Our April group visited the workshop and the lights were on!  Only a few naked bulbs hanging from the ceiling, but they have electric lights and no longer have to weave by candlelight.

ecuador export images

It’s so gratifying to see the positive impact our tour visits have had on this family. Maybe in a few more years, they will have an indoor bathroom!

I’m always looking around for artists and products.  Every tour someone asks me “How did you ever find this place?”

Ecuador export tour…

An Ecuador export business can be small and earn just a little (to pay for your trips) or a lot.  One delegates just delivered 600 leather back packs.  Large or small… a business in imports and exports can help earn more and help others to live longer to enjoy the earnings with good “EKIGAI”.

We are creating a support program so Ecuador export tour delegates can have a support team in Ecuador to help with shipping and followup orders as well as sales and marketing assistance.

Many readers of this site crave freedom… and perhaps adventure.  At least they desire the ability to get out of the rat race.   They want  to travel… spend time… live… laugh or love in more than just one place… and they want the places to be ones they choose.

How can one live such a lifestyle… where a suitcase is a necessary and vital friend?

There are few people more capable of answering this question than… Merri and me.

For 43 years (from May 1968) we have been paid to travel and live exactly where we have wanted to be… because we have had an events business conducting seminars, courses and tours.

Our seminar/conference/ events business has allowed us to visit and to live almost anywhere we have chosen… or not.

Sometimes we have incredible adventures.

Here I am with Merri and an Ecuadorian Yatchak deep in the Llanganatis jungle creating a shamanic tour.

However when we want to stay at home we can also do so.  One does not have to travel to have an events business.

Here I am (in brown shirt) speaking to a delegate that we conducted at our Florida home.

We even built a…

seminar hall on Little Horse Creek so we can stay in the mountains when we desire… and still conduct events.

Here is one of the small groups at a retreat we conducted in the seminar hall.

Most owners of an events business do not do this much, however!  Lesson Two of a new course we have created called “Event – Full Business” shows how to start small and gradually build a larger events business (if that is your desire) as we have done.

We have conducted events as small as two delegates and some with over 400 so…

we know the events business inside and out… large and small. Here Merri and I are speaking to over 400 + people in Quito, Ecuador.

There are innumerable fringe benefits to an events business. For example almost all of our global travel has been tax deductible for all these years.

The pay has certainly not been bad either.  As you’ll see below, one time we earned  $142,260 in three days.  In another instance we earned over $135,000 in two days.  Once our earnings exceeded $200,000 in just three days.

Yet the income has been a small part of this adventure. The expanded horizons… the people we have met… the adventures we have shared… the tens of thousands of delegates we have enjoyed and hopefully helped…. the poor we have served… the freedom we have felt… to be able to go where we desire and come home, when we desire, with more than when we left.

These facts have dramatically enriched our lives….and we hope others.

Now we would like to help improve your lifestyle as well… if… earning with a seminar, tour events business appeals to you.

We have conducted seminars or events or spoken at them in… (alphabetical order)  Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary (before the Iron Curtain came down), Indonesia, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands,  Panama, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and at one time or another most of the United States and more.

There is a possibility that  Merri and I know more about conducting events than 99.9% of the people in the world and because so many have asked… we have finally decided to provide an online correspondence course on how to create your own seminar, tour or events business.

We call this brand new emailed correspondence course:  “Event – Full Business”.

We have completed three lessons and to give you a better idea about “Event – Full Business”. The Introduction Lesson is below.  I am ready to send you the Intro and Lesson #1 of “Event – Full Business” and am ready to accept your enrollment of students in our beta program.

See how to benefit from this first stage in our course development after you have studied this introduction.

“Event- Full Business” – How to Profit Conducting Seminars, Workshops & Tours

Sometime about 24 years ago…. around 1987:

Photo from www.thetoptensite.com/Niagara_Falls.html

A white water symphony… harmonized in crushed octaves.  A melody amplified by nature’s power and white water sound conducted in the fresh air amphitheater that is Niagara Falls.

Merri and I walked arm and arm along the Canadian side of the falls…overwhelmed by its strength and its spectacular beauty.  We had driven from our home in North Carolina to conduct an International Investing and Business Conference… one of the largest of our own seminars that we had ever conducted…380 people.

We arrived a day early… took a suite with a large red garden tub… soaked after the long journey and then enjoyed the wonder of this natural phenomenon…Niagara Falls.

This was the day to enjoy because the next three we would be busy, very busy… with stress-of course. Marketing had shot past our expectations and this was a large crowd. We would work hard yet we would also earn approximately $142,260 for three days work. Actually more. You’ll see why below.

We have earned in many ways since then… until now… 24 + years later.

This morning a reader enrolled in our 2011 International Club allowing him to attend all the seminars we’ll conduct for the next year.

He wrote: “Hi Merri. I am looking forward to meeting you both again. Had met in Niagara in the 1980s. Thanks.”

Obviously, something we did for this client 25 years ago brought this extra business to us now.

This fact stimulated me to get on with this course which I have been outlining for some time. A seminar, conference, tour business not only creates unusual profit opportunity now… but when a seminar business is properly run, it can create income for a lifetime!

This course shows how Merri I and have created riches and a lifestyle beyond our wildest imagination and shares steps you can take to create a profitable and fun business conducting seminars, workshops conferences and tours wherever and whenever you like.  (Or perhaps you want to conduct seminars online or live or with a video sent through the internet.)

When it comes to conducting seminars, courses and tours, there are few people with more experience than Merri and me. Over 43 years we have organized, marketed and conducted thousands of tours for tens of thousands of people in dozens and dozens of countries (even behind the Iron Curtain).

This course shares how we have done this… what we did right… what we did wrong… how you can get started and what you can do much better than we have.

Here are the initial lessons in an outlined that I am writing.

#1: How to earn millions from seminars, courses and tours. See how we have earned as much as $200,000 for three days’ work. (Once $135,000 in two days.)

#2: How to build a seminar business. See the one day Washington-Atlanta-San Francisco system that helped our courses evolve and how to use this approach to help your teaching grow.

#3: When and when not to use other speakers. Seminars for speakers… a way to get it all out as your bank accounts gets it all in.

#4: How to use other speakers. Gain the key to the room and the people within. Why the golden pen is mightier than a glib tongue, the sword and the overloaded brain.

#5: Dealing with hotels/locations. Why the marketing does not talk to catering who will not communicate with accounting and the mess this could mean for you. How to choose… arrange and survive the hotel. Forget the $11,314 coffee bill… for swill.

#6: Scheduling seminars. Magic dates and times for marketing… how far in advance to market and seminar death dates to avoid.

#7: Creating a back end business. How Merri made $12,936 dollars at a seminar in 37 minutes by just standing still.

#8: Three types of courses… delegate driven… speaker driven… third party driven.

#9: The importance of strategic partnerships for added wealth.

#10: How to market seminars, courses & tours.

#11: List building.

#12: Alternative seminar and course location options.

#13: The benefits of both big seminars and small courses.

#14: How to survive the dreaded problems: What to do when enrollments are low. Handling the heckler, the takeover and the cell phone. When the hotel fails. Surviving speaker no shows and all of those types of things!

#15: How to enhance your other businesses with seminars.

We welcome you to “Event – Full Business”.

We’ll be doing all we can to help you create your riches and a lifestyle beyond your wildest dreams with an events business so your life and income can be filled by events and event full!

The first lesson will look at seminars, workshops conferences, exhibitions, tours, various events, how they differ and their strengths and weaknesses so you can begin to zero in on what would be best for you.

This is the introduction.  We invite you to become a beta subscriber to this new online correspondence course, “Event – Full Business”.

The initial fee for the “Event- Full Business” online course is $499, but as with all of our courses, we provide a substantial discount to our first subscribers as part of a beta development program so they can help us refine the course.

Save Now

In this initial offer, you can enroll for a special initial savings plus we’ll enroll you in our our annual Event – Full Course Update for even more savings you’ll gain next year.

We’ll send you the first lessons immediately and each lesson as it is completed.  Plus we’ll ask for your input.

Never Ending Story – Save Next Year

The world is changing at an ever faster pace, so no course on business remains current for long.  Our events business evolves every year.  Consequently our courses never end… they evolve with our business.

Throughout the year we update, rewrite and expand our courses… adding new tips and share real time what we have learned and what we are still learning.  We show the changes we are making… how and why… in our business through the year.

This continual update is like an Alumni Club. Imagine attending Harvard. After graduation you stay in touch with your fellow students. You share. You help one another. You network and stay up to date. Our online business courses work in the same way so we… all our subscribers… and you,  help the courses evolve and keep pace with new ideas, new technology, innovation and changes in the market place.

Beta subscribers are guaranteed “Events 202” at a special discount when they choose to continue with the course in June 2012.

So you gain more than just savings as a beta subscriber.  The extra added benefit is that you help direct the creation of the course and make it more useful from the very beginning.

Then year after year… as long as you like… you stay in touch with us, our webmaster and with the other subscribers from around the world though a special password protected site.

The first 15 lessons above are set and will be sent regularly. Your questions, comments, actions, successes and failures will help expand and direct this course over the next year.

Radiation Protection Q & A Part One

Safety from radiation… safety  in Ecuador and safety anywhere is the focus in this Saturday Q & A.

See questions answers and comments about the following subjects below:

#1: Safety from Radiation. See below

#2: Protect against radiation and travel in Ecuador… or anywhere.

#3: Safe places far from the crowd like Vilcabamba real estate.

#1: Safety from Radiation. Two days ago I introduced a Protect Against Radiation report.  Merri and I immediately prepared this, outlining seven steps we took after being exposed to high levels of radiation from Chernobyl.  The fact that we have faced radiation exposure problems and overcome them put us in a unique position to help our readers… and more.

I thought long and hard about how to share this.  We are in a unique position to help and want to make this information available to as many readers as we can.  So we sent the report to all our paid subscribers free.

Because this data reaches beyond our readership we published the report with Amazon.com’s self publishing associates so anyone can get the report on their Kindle.   Amazon obviously won’t let us offer a free of report so we have offered the Protect Against Radiation Report for $4.99 rather than our normal $29 rate for a report of this size.

I believe the knowledge Merri and I gained from being radiated during Chernobyl saved our lives. I know that many of our readers have a lot of fear right now so we decided to share this quickly because the problem appears to have grown even more serious.

A March 16, 2011 New York Times article entitled “U.S. Calls Radiation ‘Extremely High;’ Sees Japan Nuclear Crisis Worsening”
by David E. Sanger, Matther L. Wald and Hiroko Tabuchi says:  WASHINGTON — The chairman of the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission gave a far bleaker appraisal on Wednesday of the threat posed by Japan’s nuclear crisis than the Japanese government had offered. He said American officials believed that the damage to at least one crippled reactor was much more serious than Tokyo had acknowledged, and he advised Americans to stay much farther away from the plant than the perimeter established by Japanese authorities.

The announcement opened a new and ominous chapter in the five-day-long effort by Japanese engineers to bring the six side-by-side reactors under control after their cooling systems were knocked out by an earthquake and a tsunami last Friday. It also suggested a serious split between Washington and its closest Asian ally at an especially delicate moment.

Mr. Jaczko’s most startling assertion was that there was now little or no water in the pool storing spent nuclear fuel at the No. 4 reactor of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, leaving fuel rods stored there exposed and bleeding radiation into the atmosphere.

As a result, he said, “We believe that radiation levels are extremely high, which could possibly impact the ability to take corrective measures.”

A forecast by the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization suggests that the radiation could reach North America soon. Here it shows how weather patterns this week might disperse radiation from a continuous source in Fukushima, Japan.

Plus a number of articles show that one solution is potassium iodide, but some are having problems getting it.

A BBC article two days ago said: Radiation Pill sales surge in US. Several potassium iodide manufacturers are reportedly out of stock.  Fears of radiation sickness stemming from the unfolding nuclear crisis in Japan have prompted a surge in US sales of potassium iodide.  Potassium iodide (KI), a salt, floods the thyroid gland with non-radioactive iodine which lessens the amount of radiation the gland can absorb.  Pharmacies do not generally carry KI, but several manufacturers have reported being out of stock.

The US government has a stockpile on hand in case of emergencies.

Online retailer nukepills.com said via its Twitter feed that it had sold out of KI pills on Tuesday.

It received 3,800 orders in 18 hours on Sunday and has shipped 50,000 pills to Tokyo, with the help of Harvard Medical School.

Debby Fleming Wurdack, co-owner of Fleming Pharmaceuticals, which produces a KI solution on demand, told the BBC the firm would be out of stock by the end of the day.

The problem of getting radiation protection was not limited to the USA! A Canadian TV website says: Radiation fears spark rush for iodine pills.  Stores that sell iodine supplements are selling out as people react to the possibility of radiation exposure from leaks at nuclear plants in Japan.  Since word emerged that Japan has begun distributing potassium iodide tablets to residents near the Fukushima facility, other global regions have noted a spike in sales of the pills.

In Russia’s Far East, not far from Japan, residents are buying up the pills in droves, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal — even as the Russian government insists that radiation levels in Russia remain at normal levels.

There are reports that packets of potassium iodide pills are attracting bids of up to US$540 on eBay. And British Columbia’s top medical officer, Dr. Perry Kendall, also noted a run on iodine tablets.

The article goes on to say that Dr. Kendall ordered pharmacists not to sell the pills.

One reader from British Columbia had something to say about this when he ordered our Protect Again Radiation Report: The medical services of BC have told the pharmacists NOT to sell us the potassium iodine!

Radiation Problems Won’t Go Away Soon

A New York Times March 14, 2011 article entitled “Radioactive Releases in Japan Could Last Months, Experts Say” says: WASHINGTON — As the scale of Japan’s nuclear crisis begins to come to light, experts in Japan and the United States say the country is now facing a cascade of accumulating problems that suggest that radioactive releases of steam from the crippled plants could go on for weeks or even months.

The emergency flooding of stricken reactors with seawater and the resulting steam releases are a desperate step intended to avoid a much bigger problem: a full meltdown of the nuclear cores in reactors at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

So what can one do?  Here is a problem that could be serious. Many (including me) doubt that the Japanese, US or Canada government will give us the total story. Instead our fear is that politicians will downplay any negative potential for political and panic reasons.

Protect Against Radiation Report

How can we adjust our lives to cope with what may become a long term reality.  There appears to be many things we can do.

A 2008 report that was in Reuters, The Telegraph and I suspect many other papers says Red wine ‘can protect against radiation’ suggests that wine can help and says: Scientists may soon recommend that it is best you start drinking heavily and not just because you may be  facing oblivion.

According to the latest research, red wine – along with its many other claimed benefits – may also protect you from radiation exposure.

A team at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine have discovered that resveratrol, the natural anti-oxidant found in red wine, can protect cells from the damage caused by radiation.

In experiments on mice the scientists found that when combined with the chemical acetyl and administered before radiation exposure it protected the cells and helped prevent death.

The results, to be presented to the American Society for Therapeutic  Radiology and Oncology, could lead to drugs to counteract poisoning in the wake of a nuclear emergency or attack.

“New, small molecules with radioprotective capacity will be required for treatment in case of radiation spills or even as countermeasures against radiological terrorism,” said Dr Joel Greenberger of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the university.

“Small molecules which can be easily stored, transported and administered are optimal for this, and so far acetylated resveratrol fits these requirements well.

“Currently there are no drugs on the market that protect against or counteract radiation exposure.”

The study was overseen by Pitt’s Center for Medical Countermeasures Against Radiation, which is dedicated to finding radiation protecters that can be administered in the event of a large-scale radiological or nuclear emergency.

Don’t go out and load up on red wine!  The article suggest that more is involved and I suspect that the downside of the alcohol would be worse than the upside of the protection. Non fermented fruit would be better.

Blaine Watson, our friend and Vedic astrologer,  sent some ideas along in his daily emailing.

Blaine has worked with some of India’s top healers and these ideas come from a raw food advocate David Wolfe so the ideas below are worthy of research.  Note below that Blaine will conduct the Investing and Business Beyond Logic seminar in Mt. Dora, April 9 and 10, 2011.

Here are excerpts:

#1: Ginseng

#2: Kelp and other seaweeds (high in natural iodine)

#3: Ashwaganda (an adaptogenic herb)

#4: Iodine (nascent iodine, Iodoral, or Lugol’s)

#5: Chlorella (being 10% chlorophyll, it’s a great detoxifier–wheatgrass is only 0.25% chlorophyll)

#6: Zeolites (great for neutralizing radiation)

#7: Fulvic Acid

#8: Sea salt or salty miso (combats toxic halides in the body such as chlorine, bromine, etc.)

#9: Reishi mushrooms (strong immune support)

#10: Earthing, or Grounding to the Earth (walking barefoot on the soil, swimming in lakes, etc, allows you to pick up the much-needed electrons from the Earth, which help reverse the damage done by radiation)

#11: Wolfe also recommends high-dose vitamin C, as much magnesium as you can get down (raw cacao is an excellent source), selenium (Brazil nuts are loaded), and coconut products (natural organic coconut cream and coconut oil), which are very supportive to your thyroid.

#12: I would add astaxanthin to the list, which is the most powerful antioxidant found in nature. It has such potent anti-radiation properties that it’s been shown in scientific studies to protect people from sunburn!

Some of these products are available at your local nutrition center. Others you’ll have to order online. Some of the sites I trust for the less common items are:

Longevity Warehouse
Raw Food World
Dr. Mercola has excellent Himalayan sea salt, coconut oil and chlorella.

So there may be some steps we can take to improve our lives despite any increases in radiation.  Merri and I know that we are healthier today then we were before we were exposed to high levels of radiation.   The exposure set us on a path to improve our health and the benefits we gained have surpassed the damage done by the radiation.

We do eat a lot of seaweed and take sun chlorella everyday just to combat the ravages of modern life.

We explain why in our Protect Against Radiation report.

Export Business Report

Here is an Ecuador export tour update.

Read below about this Indigenous family who make and sell tagua jewelry,  earrings and necklaces to match.

Merri and I have not conducted the Ecuador export tours for many years, but we do work closely with the tour operator and provide assistance and monitor how the Ecuador export tours  help the delegates.  Plus I meet with the delegates (via Skype if I am not there) and talk about the keys of exporting.

Here was the first report we heard after day one of the latest Ecuador export tour.

Bonnie Keough who conducts these tours wrote: Busy day today, everyone turned in early.  I have to type tomorrow’s schedule and then it’s jammie time for me.  Group is getting along well and enjoying themselves I think.  They enjoyed hearing from Gary today and enjoyed pie at the pie shop.

Attaching some photos,  Sue McDowell has been searching for months for a red leather jacket and found one today at the leather studio we visited.

It was a perfect fit for her and her wallet.

Bo Guyer and wife Becki stocked up on scarves (and many other items!)to take back to New Hampshire for their shop.

Stopped at the home of an Indigenous family who make and sell tagua jewelry, they made earrings to match the necklaces we bought.  Folks were thrilled with the colors and prices.

Yesterday we visited an indigenous village where father and son explained the process of weaving these beautiful tapestries and the significance of the designs.

One delegate emailed Merri and me this note  after the first day of the Ecuador export tour:

Merri,  WOW! What an amazing day at the market In Otavalo. I have never seen so much well made stuff. My eyes were wide open all day. Bonnie showed us around and introduced us to many different people and opportunities. The people working the market are truly remarkable craftsmen. The day was long but very rewarding. I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings.

Thank you very much for working with me in trying to find a place for me to stay. I am amazed at your generosity to a complete stranger. Thanks again and have a warm and restful night.

Our friend, Roberto Ribadeneira, speaks at each Ecuador export tour about Ecuador roses.

Double Earnings in Ecuador

Here is a way to have fun earning  in Ecuador two ways.

Here is an idea on how to earn income from or with Ecuador coffee, chocolate or roses… plus Imports into Ecuador.  Earn coming and going.

First a comment from a reader and seminar delegate about our recent article, “Don’t be a Sitting Duck“.

Gary, what a fabulous article…from the 70’s and applies to our times of today!  You know, if it wasn’t for your seminars and education that you provided me, I might not have even agreed to build our safe harbor here in Cuenca, for that is what it truly is!

Gary, just about everything else is gone…including our jobs, homes and “stuff” back in California.  Incredible, isn’t it… I never thought I’d be without work in the hotel business!  I am looking at a new opportunity with a fine linen manufacturer in Barcelona, who customizes the finest bed, bath and table linens for inns, hotels and restaurants.  Eurtex is the brand and Manuel & I will be the distributors for the US and Latin America!  How about that for international living and business made EZ…you helped to open my world…and get out of my comfort zone (which was a special message to me while on a spiritual retreat)…which led to personal growth.  Perhaps soon, I can join your wonderful club and attend more of your so desired courses that I’d like to participated in!  Mahalo and saludos and keep on sharing …. your knowledge is incredible!  Abrazos to you and Merri.

Many readers who have just joined us think that our websites are about Ecuador… yet our our websites are about much more than Ecuador… as our business has been for 43 years…  about adapting to change.

Ecuador as you will see below is one small part of what we review at our sites.

One big change ahead is the rapid increase in inflation and government interference in private lives financed of course by the taxpayer.

Life today reminds too many… too much of the quote from the organizer Soviet Communism Vladimir Ilyich Lenin who said: “The way to crush the bourgeoisie is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation.”

The dilemma of growing government in a weak economy is likely to get worse as well.

One reason for government growth is shown in an article at jobs.AOL.com. That article shows that current government jobs give rich benefits packages and higher wages than in the private sector.

Unlike most private employees, federal workers have a choice of several health plans and life insurance options that is paid for by the government.  Federal workers get more paid time off than most in the private sector.  Federal employees receive 13 days of sick leave a year, which accrues indefinitely. Federal employees also get 13 days vacation when they start and this grows to 26 days.  That and sick days amounts to over five weeks off… with pay.

Federal benefits don’t stop at retirement. There is a three-tiered Federal Retirement System.

The list below shows that many federal average salaries are higher than in the private sector.

Government average: $89,441
 Nationwide average: $80,900

Government average: $80,798
Nationwide average: $63,360

: Government average: $80,777
Nationwide average: $68,560

Government average: $74,907
Nationwide average: $58,020

: Government average: $74,630
 Nationwide average: $49,110

: Government average: $60,935
 Nationwide average: $56,880

Medical: Technician
Government average: $35,526
 Nationwide average: $33,170

These benefits and high salaries along with and human nature lead to bloated government!  Increased government spending… usually is inefficient which leads to inflation.

More government spending leads to…  the millstones of taxation and inflation.

There are five ways to combat these two problems.

One of the five is that you might like to live in or do business in Ecuador or some other country that might interest you. Another is to have your own micro business that earns extra income.

Here is an idea expressed in espresso from Jean Marie Butterlin, (who heads the A Team Ecuador) on ways to earn extra income in Ecuador.

Ecuador and Automatic Espresso Machines

Jean Marie Butterlin

More and more people moving to Ecuador are real coffee lovers and are looking to find a reliable automatic espresso machine (the one that you just have to push a button and it grinds the coffee beans and then oh miracle… a nice, creamy coffee pours out!

I had been looking for such a machine for over a year (I Googled  “espresso machine Ecuador” and had not much luck!   After talking to the director of the Intag Coffee Coop. in Intag,  I was lucky enough to meet with Danny Coronel who is the man who knows about these coveted Italian made espresso machines.  Here is a picture of the one I just bought.

The company  “Verali Café”  is in Quito and is moving from Orellana and San Javier to new better quarters on Ulloa and Atahualpa.   Danny will give our Ecuadorliving subscribers a $300 discount as well as a kilo of Intag coffee when they purchase such a machine.

Here are Danny’s phone numbers : 092 740 928 and 094746169 and 02 223 2255

Danny will have a new website up very soon.

Jean Marie

Here is the Ecuador earnings idea.

Ecuador is a country where you can get almost anything you desire.  Yet… like the espresso machine… you have to know where to get it!   Earn by observing what the growing Ecuador expat community desires and then figuring out how to get it to them.  Then buy it wholesale or write a report about how to get it.

Fun and play should be an important part of business, investing and life.

This is why the Ecuador exports tours mentioned at this site have worked so well.

During the holidays shopping can be pretty hectic, but for many, shopping is fun.  Shopping in Ecuador with ridiculous, low prices is even more fun for those who enjoy the process of finding good value.

We are especially proud that Bonnie Keough who was originally a student of our export tours… has taken over and built a great business with…

her own exports that she sells.  Bonnie takes you into the factories and markets like this and much more…as well as into private homes where beautiful products are created by the entire family.

She conducts the Ecuador exports tours (she has expanded them to five days from three) and can

Two letters Bonnie received from exporters, who started on her tours show how much fun an Ecuador export business can be.

Here is one: Hi Bonnie, I’m not sure if you received my last emails! We had a horrible virus invade our website. I think it is finally fixed. I wanted to let you know that We have had such a positive response with all of our stuff! Our biggest worry now is running out of inventory. We’ll be in Ecuador January 5 and 6th. Are you going to be there then? We have a lot of people who love the children’s sweaters and would like them in adult sizes. Also the bracelets were a huge hit. If you aren’t going to be there who would you suggest we contact to get help while there? He will need to buy about the same amount as our last shipment. This whole adventure has been so much fun! You did a wonderful job picking out our last shipment! Hope you are enjoying the holiday’s! I look forward to hearing from you.

Here is another: Hi Bonnie,  We are selling Ecuador stuff like crazy, soon we will be out of inventory and haven’t even met with the two store chains who want to represent our Alpaca products!!  I am spending the Christmas Holidays with my fiancee and would like to fly to Ecuador to buy more inventory!  Are you going to be there during the Holidays?  If not, can you arrange a colleague to work with me when I’m there? If this keeps going as it is now, we are going to need a lot of inventory on a regular basis. Please give me your thoughts?  HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!

Terror Profits Ecuador

Now let’s look at how terror profits Ecuador.

That is a tough statement… but regrettably true.

gary scott panel

Gary & Merri at the sacred lake, Cuicocha,  in Imbabura, Ecuador.

First let me be clear. Merri and I have spent so much time and invested and donated and tried to help the indigenous because we love the people… the beauty… the energy and the weather of Ecuador… not because we dislike the USA. We love America as well.

However many Americans, Canadians and Western Europeans are so unsettled with the social economics in their country that they are leaving… looking for a new home and Ecuador has been a major recipient of this inflow… bringing money… business and new ideas and lifestyles to adapt into the culture.

Not all the evolution is good… especially when people are leaving what they hate… not going to what they love.  They tend to pack up their tension and trouble and frustration and bring it along… forgetting that their goal was to leave it behind!

Not all the change in Ecuador is bad either… but even the large amounts of good, change is still change and though change is the essence of our universe and although we need to embrace change.  However for many, change creates terror.

Change has sped up… in many ways… wealth shifting from a few industrialized nations to emerging countries.  The dollar losing value and its status as the reserve currency of the world.  The euro’s very fabric questioned.  Taxes rising.  Real estate prices falling.  Global recessions.

Perhaps worst of all… the huge boomer population in Europe, the USA and Japan… all rapidly beginning to retire… reducing production and increasing consumption.

Throw all these together and a bit more and many investors are terrified!

This series on “Terror in the Markets” is looking at five ways to survive and prosper from these rapid shifts:

#1: Move where costs are lower… such as Ecuador or Small town USA.

#2: Invest in real estate.

#3: Invest in commodities.

#4: Have your own small business.

#5: Invest in equities.

If option #1 is one of your choices and Ecuador is one of the countries you are considering… Merri and I recommend that you Visit First. Then Rent before you buy. Make sure that Ecuador is the place you love and enjoy.  Then buy when you are sure.

This is why we have suggested that Ecuador real estate tours look for rentals as well as properties for sale so delegates can get an overall view.

This is why Ecuador Discovery Tours has expanded its mid beach real estate tours to last 4 days including travel to and from Manta.

The bridge is…

Bridge Bahia

complete. What I find amazing about this country is that the bridge was proposed, the bridge was started and now the bridge is finished!  This speaks excellently for Ecuador…The tours go over the bridge to see great beach property like this that start at $99,000

Here are some details on two Salinas, Ecuador beach rentals

We have been getting many requests for Ecuador beach rentals so this article from Amy Pinoargote may help you.

Salinas Ecuador Beach Rentals

December through April is high season in the Salinas area, with rentals at almost 100% occupancy, so it is good to plan well in advance if you are planning to visit in that time frame.

Off season it is usually possible to find a good rental with short notice.

Two properties on the market right now are a brand new, fully furnished 2 bedroom condo at our ocean front Spondylus 2 complex.

Salinas Ecuador-beach-rentals

The owners purchased it with the intention to use it as a rental, but that doesn’t mean that they cut corners on the furnishings.

Salinas Ecuador-beach-rentals

There are stainless appliances, custom made hardwood bedroom furniture, hardwood dining room set and sectional seating in the living room with a 32 inch flat screen TV.

Salinas Ecuador-beach-rentals

The complex has a large pool, jacuzzi, bbq area, sauna and gym.  The unit is listed at $800 per month high season, with discounts available for off-season or long term rentals.

Another great rental is a one bedroom cottage in Ballenita.

Salinas Ecuador-beach-rentals

It is just a few blocks from the beach on a property that has a huge social area with a pool and bbq area.  The first floor of the cottage has a kitchen, living room and dining area.

Salinas Ecuador-beach-rentals

The second floor has the bedroom and bathroom.  The cottage has just been refurbished.  It comes furnished, with a/c and Direct TV.  The monthly rate is $650.

For those looking for longer term rentals, we frequently see nice houses just a block or two from the beach renting in the $300 per month range with an annual lease.

Whenever there is terror in the market… extra profits can be made.  Fear throws prices out of balance.  Some places and investments grow too expensive.  Others become really cheap.  Ecuador has become much more expensive than when Merri and I first started living and investing there 15 years ago.   However there is still good value for those who take the time to learn the real estate market and watch for value.

First, back to Cuenca condos. There are three large cities in Ecuador… Guayaquil the commercial center, Quito, the capital and Cuenca often called the Athens of South America.

Cuenca is by far the smallest and has the most middle class feeling. This is the town where we see most expats who attend tours decide to settle.

There are numerous new construction projects and Stephen Milden sent details about these new Cuenca condos now available near the center of Cuenca.

Stephen writes:

There is a very affordable town homes project that is 75% complete. Within minutes you have grocery stores, doctors, hair salon, etc.
