By the morning they are fully opened and incredible!  This is only a third of one order.

You can now have fresh Ecuador roses yourself or send them as gifts as well.

You can have 25,  50 or 100 fresh cut (four days) roses from Ecuador delivered to any zip code in the USA…including Hawaii or Alaska.

Merri and I love Ecuador for the warmth and friendliness in the hearts of its people. We also love Ecuador’s beauty.  When an opportunity to send Ecuador roses and raise money for the poor occurred, we grabbed the chance.

I wrote about the roses, made a special offer and sold over 15,000 roses that raised $6,000 to help Ecuador’s poor. The money was used to provide schooling and university for gifted indigenous children and to buy a  InFocus projector used in our free English classes for Ecuadorian children that the foundation provides.

So when a chance to offer Ecuador roses regularly, I thought, “Why not?”

There and then I decided to make a special offer.  Here it is.

The cost of roses, and especially delivery, have been rising, but we still offer three ways to get 50 or 100 fresh cut roses to your home at really low rates and help create employment in Ecuador  in the process.

I regret that UPS cannot deliver the roses in Canada or elsewhere outside the USA.

UPS will deliver them to you within four days of being cut in Ecuador. Open them. If you are not satisfied that these are truly remarkable roses, give them back to the UPS driver and let me know. I’ll give you a full refund.

To assure the refund you must inspect the flowers with UPS when they are delivered. If you are not satisfied they must be returned at the time of delivery.

There are three ways to obtain fresh cut Thanksgiving roses and save.

#1: We provide a service called Ecuador Living to assist those with a genuine and immediate interest in Ecuador. This service shares our continual research and experiences in global business, living and investing in Ecuador plus our contacts. We feel the service is a bargain at $119 a year.

#2: Order 100 roses instead. This reduces shipping and the price is only $129 for 100 roses. You save $53.

#3: Subscribe to Ecuador Living Premium Service with your first rose order, I’ll reduce the 25 rose price from $79 so you get fresh cut, premium roses and save $29.

To order, click on your choice below. I will forward your order to our flower supplier who will follow your order from the farm to your home.  He will first email you a UPS tracking number.

During Thanksgiving the flower growers can only send farm choice color combinations.

Unless otherwise arranged, and subject to weather permitting, UPS will deliver your roses to you or your recipient on Tuesday or Wednesday November 26 or 27.

All photos on this page are delivered Ecuador roses to our home.

There is exquisite beauty and pure luxury with 50 (or 100) roses compared to a dozen.

I love roses. Having 50 allows me to make my bouquets purely out of roses. 50 roses allows me really incredible bouquets.

This is just one bouquet  of 12 fresh Ecuador roses.  38 (or 88) roses to go!

I put out a few on their own.  36 or 86 more roses to go!

The roses arrive…

Then they open…

We can be Thankful for Nature’s Way

Happy Thanksgiving!  Even if you are not in the U.S. be thankful for nature’s way.

Thank you for joining us.

No turkeys at this site today… and no specials at this site on Black Friday.

Instead this shot of our hound Mahatu (Mah) showing us nature’s way… totally focused on a squirrel sitting in one of the palm trees growing in our back yard… who by the way enjoyed taunting her…. the squirrels, that is not the palms.

That seems to be their part of nature’s way… superior squirrels.

gary-scott-dog

First, congratulate Mah… she was recently award the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizens Award.  Way to go!  She was the only mixed breed…all the others were full bred breeds but she was the only one that received the award.

We are really thankful for this because it’s hard for a hound to sit still when her nose is telling her go… go… go. Anyway she did stay in a sit for three minutes after I left the area and passed the other nine obedience tests.  I like this discipline as it’s good for the hound… but even better for the master.   The hound learns a bit.

The master learns a lot about all living things and how we all follow nature’s way. If you can understand a hound on scent.. you can communicate with just about anything.

Back to Mah in this photo.   She had been sitting for some time under a palm tree in our back yard trying to catch a squirrel when I took this shot.

She doesn’t have a chance… I don’t think. Yet she never gives up.

She’ll sit focused like that for hours.

The squirrels high above chant… chatter and scold and they leave her sitting.

In this hopeless domain, she remains focused…. patient and waiting.

Eventually she leaves the spot… maybe a little discouraged but not for long!

Soon she is back in stealth mode… stalking like a cat (though I am not sure she would like me using that comparison) after yet another…  superior squirrel.

gary-scott-dog

Mah on stealth mode.

Tomorrow morning despite all the failures she’ll experience today… she’ll come down about 6:30… right at the crack of dawn (just as I am finishing my yoga and meditation).   She’ll be really excited, enthusiastic about life and eager to get out the door so she can… chase the squirrels.

That’s nature’s way.  We are intended to try more times than we succeed. In fact nature gives us failure to hone us, make us better… more focused… determined and strong.  Everyone has a phase in life when achievement only seems to come with great effort.   Yet the hardest lessons and trials lead to the richest, most hard-won rewards!

This is how nature leads us with pressure that keeps us focused on our individual, unique purpose.   This heaviness is a force that keeps us plodding through dread so we  generate more inner discipline, faith, optimism and trust.

Nature does not promise success, but by forcing us to learn how to stick to our passion and purpose despite distractions and doubts, we gain mastery of fulfillment that brings us unshakable self-esteem.

The great Sufi poet Rumi says this in his poem Chickpea that says:

A chickpea in a pot leaps from the flame,
out from the boiling water,
Crying, “Why do you set fire to me?
You chose me, bought me, brought me home for this?”
The cook hits it with her spoon into the pot.

“No! Boil nicely, don’t jump away from the one who makes the fire.
I don’t boil you out of hatred.
Through boiling you may grow flavorful, nourishing,
and united with vital human spirit.

The chickpea speaks, “If this is so, then help me to boil!
By this boiling you elevate me.
Hit me with the spoon; delight me!
Let me gladly submit to this boiling
that I may be embraced by the Beloved.”

So whatever you are feeling today… be thankful!

The journey really is what counts and if the path you are on is a purpose you have a passion for (as Mah right now has one for chasing squirrels) the days when you miss your goals won’t hurt you.  They will make you better…. more a part of everything and happier, because this really is nature’s way.

Albert Schweitzer summed this fact so well when he said:

“Success is not the key to happiness
Happiness is the key to success
If you love what you are doing
You will be successful“.

Merri, David, Cheri and I are thankful that you have tuned in. You are our purpose and our inspiration and wish you happiness and a lot to be thankful for every day.

Ecuador Holiday Roses

Ecuador Holiday Roses

Ecuador roses are available from our site just in time for the holidays.

You can enjoy special beauty in your home for Thanksgiving and Christmas with Ecuador roses.

We had a concern for you when it came to fresh Ecuador roses for the holidays.

Last year we were overwhelmed with Ecuador rose orders for the holidays so we know there is a great demand during this season.   Yet many flower plantations have not been able to survive the recession.   Our flower supplier Roberto Ribadeneira has had the farms he worked with go bankrupt twice this last year. He has not been able to provide Ecuador roses for nearly a month. We were worried that this would create rose shortfall during the holidays.

I am happy to report that Roberto will have plenty of the best, most colorful Ecuador roses for you… and that the beauty you gain in your home will help may Ecuadorians enjoy the upcoming season of giving as well.

ecuador-roses

Roberto just sent me this note.

Gary, I can now provide as many fresh Ecuador roses as your readers desire using Fedex to deliver them just three days after they have been cut.   I have developed a partnership with one of the larger rose farm and I will be shipping the flowers directly from there. So we will have our Fedex machine in the farm’s cold room and pack the flowers right there.

It’s actually two farms in one. Farm #1 is located just outside Cayambe, north of Quito, it’s about 20 hectares (48 acres) of land with 10 hectares (24 acres) in production. As you can see, this is a big operation.

ecuador-roses

The second farm #2 is two miles from farm #1  and are both owned by a friend of mine. The second farm has 8 hectares (about 20 acres) in production.

The combined production its over 30,000 roses per day.

ecuador-roses

Both farms employ some 320 people. They have been in the market since 1986 being one of the first Ecuador rose farms
to export fresh cut roses. Each day the staff cuts the roses.

ecuador-roses

They are then graded and packed in this room.

ecuador-roses

They are packed in batches of 25 roses like these below. These wrapped batches are placed in a preservative solution and stored overnight in a cold room.

ecuador-roses

The solution and chill sets the rose petals, reduces bacteria that would caused early aging and puts the fresh rose into a state of suspended animation that keeps until the roses are unpacked and placed in luke warm water… which will cause them to open like this.

ecuador-roses

The next morning, a refrigerated truck drives into the cold store… picks up the roses and delivers them to Quito Airport where they are flown to Miami and placed in a Fedex cold store.  They are then flown that night to a Fedex distribution center and placed on a Fedex truck for final delivery…usually within three days of being cut.

This partnership means I have complete control of the quality of the flowers and much more availability.  I do not have not to worry about mistakes at packing or problems with the roses.  The system works well  since Fedex delivers to any US zip code.

I’ll be on the spot to provide oversight over the quality.

ecuador-roses

It doesn’t get any better for quality and service since I get to see the flowers myself.  Plus I will be going to the airport before we ship the flowers to make sure that everything is great.

Another difference is that we will be focusing more on final customers so we created a website to handle just them. We separated flower shops and event planners  so we can specifically serve households rather than flowers shops. I want normal people to get our flowers directly and not through intermediaries.  I’ll work with customers who want to develop business ideas such as the flower parties. The future of the business is what we are doing.  Roberto.

Your holiday orders for fresh Ecuador roses help out the people of Ecuador and environment as well.

The first reader wrote:

Gary, A fine letter from a daughter that has learned some important things about life at an early age.  Of my three summers in Mexico(1965-70) working on a Peace Corp style project in 18th century mountain life, from those rural  Mexicans I learned what it meant to be an American. Before Mexico I had no context  about the values and way of life that I was living.  I presumed the world thought and lived more or less like we lived.  Jim

This is a great point. To me one of the greatest pleasures from my global lifestyle is a broadened horizon.  The US is such a vast country and huge market, that in the years I lived here, the focus has always been inward.   This seems to restrict many from seeing alternatives and other great ways to live.  Don’t get me wrong. I love the US and enjoy living here.  This is one great way of living… but not THE way of living and certainly not the ONLY way to live.

Hi Gary,

I really enjoyed Francesca’s message about her experiences in various cultures and countries.  In 1985 I went to Saudi Arabia where I was the only American working at a UN designated Arab Training Center, upon graduating from USC.

It was just the thing I needed to give me the itch for all things international ever since. From there, I saw a good bit of Europe, then I worked for a Japanese electronics trading and assembly company, where I traveled most of Asia. Since then, I have been a self supporting ex-pat. I married my wonderful Filipina wife in the Philippines where I have resided these past 10 years.

She is like me, I like to try almost any type of food offered (well I passed on raw Camel’s milk because I heard it was an almost definite prescription for diarrhea). The wealth of experiences and international friends my wife and I share has provided a perspective I could never have obtained if I had never ventured from Southern California or The States.

So both Francesca’s and your daily messages resonate with me. I found Francesca’s message to be spot-on. I only wish more American’s could experience living outside the box (US)  Cheers!  Jim.

Jim lives in the Philippines… another great place to live especially for those in the Western US.

I thought this reply from a friend of 50 years (we grew up together in Rockwood, Oregon) who now teaches in China.

Gary,  I challenged my students to examine political incorrectness through humor.  Each of many classes were to ‘turn the tables’ in their humor.  And did they ever.  Here are but a few examples (often I corrected the grammar, but I never changed the meaning or focus).  The form of the jokes are an ‘imagined’ press conference to question China’s actions:

Q:  Do Chinese eat dogs?

A:  Yes. We eat a lot of dogs; and cats, too.  Especially on your “Thanksgiving Day”.  Turkeys are our favorite pets. We regard turkeys as human’s best friends.  In China only the most uneducated eat turkeys.

Q:  Why don’t you clean up the pollution in your air and water?

A:  Why don’t you clean up ‘Love Canal’ and 1000 other sites without closing the offending factories and moving them to China.

Q:  Why do you keep lending money to the USA even in light of the financial crisis?

A:  Why does a dog chase his tail?

Q:  China is becoming strong. Does your government want to take over the world?

A:  Yes, absolutely.  As soon as we become powerful enough, we hope to invade Iraq and Afghanistan; Viet Nam, Panama, Granada, Pakistan and Somalia are also on our wish list.

Q:  Why doesn’t your government give Tibet back to its monks?

A:  We keep Tibet only as a favor to the USA.  The monks want peace through repatriation, that is, equivalently, they want to help the Seminoles take back Florida, the Souix and Cherokee and Iriquois and Nez Perce to take back their homelands.

Q: Are the products made in China very cheap?

A: Yes, but if we were we using black slaves, the price would be even cheaper.

Q: You have 1.4 billion people. Now what do you want to do with it?

A: Find a new planet. Kill the native people there, and move in.

Today I arranged a shopping tour for friends and clients of our country inn, Meson de las Flores.

After a wonderful breakfast we piled into our van and headed off to Quito. We drove over the beautifully cobbled and landscaped roads leading out of the canton.

Our driver, Julio, was his usual gracious self as he politely described the wonders unfolding before us as we wound our way through the majesty of the Andes. The volcanoes and mountains and tended slopes are breathtaking. Lago del San Pablo and its village are remarkable in their beauty. The lake is huge and blue and surrounded with a perfect balance of agriculture and buildings. It evokes a
feeling for me of the Italian Alps. The lake backs onto a gentle which ten becomes
the steep volcanic slope of Mt. Imbabura.

After this comes the village of Tabacundo. This is the heart of Ecuador’s industry in the cultivation and shipping of Roses worldwide. Ecuador is a country of many contrasts, and this is but one of the many happy surprises that await in our region of Cotacachi.

After Tabacundo, we traverse an interesting and beautiful treed area,  Guayallabamba. This area is filled with Caccia trees. It is very similar to Kenya in its feel…a bit dryer and with a more rugged feeling. They grow Cherimoya
here, and you can buy a basketful for five bucks. If you have not had
Cherimoya, let me tell you simply, that I consider it to be one of the
premium fruits on this planet!

Winding our way through the villages and eucalyptus groves that line the highway we found ourselves traversing the outermost suburbs of Quito in an area called Carapungo. Before us lay a beautiful community gracing the slopes that lead finally into Quito. This area is newer and is quite breathtaking to see.

Just a bit after this we arrived at our first destination, El Condado.

This is Quito’s newest shopping mall, and it’s truly a wonder to behold. The food courts alone will blow you away. I’ve never seen such a variety of food offerings in my life. The mall has an entire wall of glass on the fourth floor providing a full sweeping view of the stunning Pichincha beyond. The architecture is tiled and beautiful and everywhere you look it has the feel of a state of the art endeavor with art and lighting and video screens with imagery. Quito is as serious about expressing themselves in this modern format as well as they are through their traditions.

Well, what can I say? The girls couldn’t pass without stopping at the many shoe stores. My opinion was relied upon heavily and I’m pretty sure those boots and flats are going to turn some heads. Jo, a recent transplant from Dallas scored the foxiest half boots that are elegant but not over done. The leather is butter soft, with a jaunty strap around the ankle and shaft that is relaxed and feminine. Barbara, a
recent transplant from Miami, found a pair of flats in a subtle metallic and print that had a Chanel feel to them.

Next came the fabric store. Oh my god!! Talk about a collective freak out. I found a white sheer tone on tone fabric with a combination of bold shimmering bands and subtle accent banding that would look great with the gentle Andean breezes wafting through open windows on one of our typical Spring-like days. The velvets and jacquards were amazing and many for only $13 a yard. Finally, we found
an incredible midnight blue crepe with a gold metallic motif of Moorish design. We all just stood there, jaws practically open in amazement. These mountains, this weather, this beautiful architecture, and window treatments!! Get my drift?? I can’t wait!!

We continued on, Julio and I dutifully toting the growing number of prized purchases. We hit the Todo Hogar (Everything for the Home) store, a place where you can totally outfit your apartment or home. Barbara is going to be hosting the holiday for a bunch of us in her new Diana Carrasco designed home that she has rented for $600 a month. This is going to be one fun adventure. Barbara is a great cook, and I am looking forward to sampling her special version of holiday turkey.

Oh, the turkey will be fresh of course. And locally grown. That’s the way things work here.

There is so much more things I can tell you about the day, but these are some of the highlights. We finished up the day a bit tired, but with a van full of kitchen furnishings, new shoes, art supplies, fine French cosmetics, books, and a couple of cases of red and white wine from Super Maxi. Barbara opened up a couple of bottles of wine and we all had wine and cheese and crackers together in the courtyard at Meson after our long “hard” day. We found ourselves gathering in friendship and laughter here in our special home in Cotacatchi.

Come down and see what it’s about.

We’d like to share it with you!

Till next time, Ray Manna, Meson de las Flores, Land of the Sun Foundation, over and out.

Thanks Ray.
