Magic Bullets in Investing & Business

When it comes to business and investing I cannot stress enough the importance of seeking value.

See great Ecuador airfare value below.

magic bullet

See why we invest in Ecuador roses instead of bullets.

There is no one magic bullet that finds good investments and business ideas.

Our values however can help our aim so we can invest and serve in the right places… for us… as individuals.

Analysis of value makes the decision process easy and effective… enforces values strongly.  Seeking value is totally in tune with logic and natural law.

Yet most investors ignore value and chase fashion.  Current fashion by its nature is almost always poor value.  Knowing this can provide everlasting wealth.

Value however is unique and dictated for every individual by their own unique set of values.

Using your own specific values as a foundation for value is vital because there are so many different ways to invest and to earn.  Our values give us a filter so we can search for value within values that are important to us.

Take for example… the ammunition makers… Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK).  The shares in this company offer good value.

ATK share

Chart of ATK shares at www.finance.yahoo.com

I stumbled across ATK when numerous readers began sending me copies of websites headlines like this: Fears that federal authorities are preparing for mass civil unrest have increased after it was revealed that the Department of Homeland Security is planning to buy a further 750 million rounds of ammo in addition to the 450 million rounds of hollow point bullets already purchased earlier this year.

The buzz is that the current administration is afraid of civil unrest in the USA and is arming up.

Perhaps so but my thinking focused on value instead of anarchy.  Instead of asking… is this true or not… what is the government’s intentions… I asked… who will make all that money.

For a fact… there is very little I can do about the government or its expenditures.  There is a lot I can do in my own actions and investing.

So I looked and found this news at fiance.yahoo.com:   ATK Delivers 2 Billion 7.62mm Rounds to the U.S. Army from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP)ATK Delivers More than 350 Million 5.56mm Enhanced Performance Rounds Using Modernized Production Line Equipment
.   ATK Receives $131 Million in Small-Caliber Ammunition Orders

ARLINGTON, Va., Sept. 13, 2012 /PRNewswire/ — ATK (ATK) recently achieved a world-class production milestone by delivering the 2 billionth 7.62mm round of ammunition manufactured at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant (LCAAP) in Independence, Mo.  Since assumption of LCAAP manufacturing operations in 2000, ATK has increased the production rate for 7.62mm ammunition five-fold in direct support of U.S. Army requirements.

Alliant Techsystems manufactures everything from rockets for NASA to bullets. In fact it is the world’s largest manufacturer of bullets.

The company has three divisions armament (bullets), Mission (big weapons) and Space (rockets, launch vehicles, missiles, missile-defense interceptors, and satellites).

The customer base is about one third commercial and two thirds government.

Over the past 10 years, the company produced an average return on equity of 31.51% by using financial leverage.

ATK debt is high but during the recession it never had problems with debt service.  All these facts suggest that  the shares of ATK are good value.

A little investigation found that stocks in the defense sector have been selling at historically cheap valuations and that ATK shares were selling a ratios far below the industry average.

ATK Price/Earnings is 6.2 compared to an industry average of 13.2. ATK  Price/Book is 1.3 compared to industry average of  3.0 and its Price/Sales Ratio is 0.4 compared to 0.8.

The 10 year average P/E ratio for its shares has been 18% but is currently below 10%  about half  the ten year average.

These facts coupled with recent events in the Middle East suggest even more spending will be for defense.

Plus if the Republicans win the presidential election… other federal expenditures such as entitlement reform are more likely to take cuts rather than defense.

I will NOT be investing in ATK.   I won’t skip these shares because they are not a good deal.  They may be a great investment.   I do not hate guns and bullets either.  I have several of one and many of the other. In facts my bullets of choice are Federal ammunition. This ammo is made by ATK… so I use a bit of their product.

I simply have too many other things to accomplish with my earnings, time and effort than investing in defense.  The value of ATK does not match my values.  I drive a car… and once in awhile, I might have a glass of wine… but still avoid investing in fossil fuels or alcohol also.

There is only so much each of us can do.   If we feel that our investments and business serve a purpose we value, we’ll do better with them and we’ll be happier… which means we are more likely to be healthy and long lived as well as affluent.  I suggest that you focus on your investments and business to your values!

Take Merri’s and my decision to invest in Ecuador as another example.  When we first visited Ecuador, we fell in love with the sweetness of the Ecuadorian people… the beauty… the diversity and the never ending spring like weather… the fresh local food… gaiety of the local markets and the never ending, direct sun.  These were values we loved about Ecuador.

We liked the values of Ecuador so we looked for value there.  We have invested in Ecuador roses and real estate but not bullets.

Just because we love a place or idea does not mean that we abandon a search for value.

On our first trip to Ecuador Merri and I dined at Atamari a small 12 room hosteria overlooking the Pacific.

Ecuador-pacific

View from Atamari.

We sat in a small thatched roof restaurant.

ecuador atamari

Atamari’s restaurant.

I looked over the beach and was intrigued.

Ecuador beach

Beach view from Atamari.

An inspection of land for sale on the beach there revealed that (then 16+ years ago), I could buy a nice piece of land for $5,000… maybe less if I searched and bargained hard.

We were living in Naples, Florida at the time and a beach lot there cost about $2 million.  That Ecuador beach represented great value to me.  Same sand.  More water… bigger and more fish… $1,995,000 price difference.

Prices in Ecuador are rising.  This begs the question… is Ecuador real estate still good value?

A reader sent me this note earlier this week.  Gary, prices of real estate in Ecuador are exorbitant. The government has injected liquidity in the market through loans which has stimulated demand. Could Ecuador real estate be approaching the bubble bursting stage? If the government curbs credit, demand would diminish and prices would go down. Are you saying that we need to wait for that to happen to get in ? An offsetting factor could be the narco dollars that still buy properties regarding of price hikes.

My reply was: Ecuador prices probably have not yet peaked. They are still quite low when compared to alternative prices.  Ecuador prices are high compared to previous Ecuador prices but still very low compared to prices in Florida, Colombia, CR, Panama and Brazil.

You can still own a condo with views like this…

6304023844 64c90e0ff3 Bahia B & B Opportunity

with city living at as little as $95 a square foot.

Biggest problem of Ecuador’s beach property.

You may not believe this but the biggest problem expats have when they come to Ecuador is that prices are so low.  Coastal real estate is so inexpensive that new buyers pay too much.   They get a really good price compared to Canada or the US…. but in Ecuador terms they pay too much.

This is an understandable problem.   A recent article in Bloomberg Business News shows that Miami property is looking like good value at $400 a square foot compared to $700 a square foot in Bogota, $1,100 in Sao Paulo and $1,400 in Rio.

Here is a picture showing prices from that Business Week article.

condo-prices

Yet we are still seeing Ecuador beach property for less than $100 a square foot.   This means that new visitors see high Ecuador beach prices and they think these prices are really low… WHEN they are compared with other countries.  New buyers often pay much more then they need.

Comparison of property prices in Business Week article can be seen below to the link.

This is why I am pleased to report that the cost of personalized tours organized by Jean Marie Butterlin have been dropped to match his group tours.

Now you can enjoy customized, private Ecuador real estate coastal tours to any part or all of the coast between Manta and Pedernales… any time at no additional cost.

#1:  You can set the exact times and dates of the tour to fit your schedule.

#2: You can quantify particular needs and/or desires in the real estate so you do not spend time seeing properties that are not of interest to you.

#3: You would like to zero on specific types of Ecuador real estate in a certain price range.

Another reader shared this note yesterday showing Ecuador airfare value as well as Ecuador beach property value.

Hi Gary,  I noticed the following website is advertising flights to Guayaquil from $387 to $444 if that’s a good deal.

ecuador airfare special

Click on photo to enlarge. See link to the low Ecuador airfare website below.

My Vistazul unit 401 is still for sale. I think there’s a developing positive story to be told for Vistazul, and I was hoping to get accurate facts that I could weave into a story to email you, but I don’t seem to be able to.  I’m told land prices in San Clemente have doubled in the past two years, and two of the lower units have sold for $100,000.  (I think one slightly over, one maybe right at $100,000.)   Both were bought by local Ecuadorians which is encouraging because they know their country and can determine where the best values are.  Also I’m told land next to Vistazul has been sold and condos are going to be built there.  That’s good, because the more foreigners move into the area the more the local services will improve.  And, Bahia coming alive will also boost Vistazul prices as not everyone wants to live in the city.

Given the higher sale prices at Vistazul, I’ve raised my cash price on my website to $92,000.  But, I’ve left it at $88,000 on your Ecuador MLS site because if someone mentions your website I’ll let them think they got a bargain and sell it at that price.  Thanks for everything, Roger Rosenwald

Ecuador Rose Value

Do not mistake good value with cheap.  This is why I became involved with Ecuador roses.  They are the best value not the cheapest.  Roses from Colombia cost less than Ecuador.  Yet Ecuador roses are bigger and they last much longer.

It is known in the flower industry that in 2009 Costco sold about 20,000 boxes of Colombia roses.  In 2010 they sold about 10,000 boxes which fell to about 6,500. boxes in 2011.

Our Ecuador rose sales just keep growing without additional sales effort because Ecuador roses offer such incredible value.

I bring in 100 Ecuador roses for every seminar. Here they are in our kitchen waiting for me to arrange before our last Writer’s Camp.

100 Ecuador Roses.

These roses don’t have to be sold.. just let people see them.  Once they order… they order again and again.

They order because these roses… though they cost a bit more than those in the grocery store or at Costco etc… last so much longer and are so beautiful.

Memorable Ecuador Flowers

What can you do with Ecuador roses?

First, you can use Ecuador roses to help others.   These beautiful flowers make great fund raisers. Last September we donated these Ecuador roses and lilies to the Festival of Tables a fund raiser for a FREE medical clinic.   This event raised ten thousand dollars for the clinic which helps provide health care to those who are not insured and cannot afford health care and we were pleased to do this to help out in Ashe County.

ecuador-rosres

Its amazing what 50 roses and 20 Ecuador lilies can do.

Merri and I love Ecuadorian roses so it is not surprising that we offer them at our site to help the people of Ecuador.  Our tradition has been to use our flower revenue to provide scholarships for children  who go to special school and our older children in Ecuador who go to universities. This was a double pleasure… in that we could help in Ecuador and for the free US clinic as well.

Second, you can give spectacular gifts.   Fedex will deliver them direct to any home with a US zip code. Nobody else gets 50 or 100 incredible roses!

We just completed a Writer’s Camp this last weekend.Merri and I always decorate the farm with  fresh Ecuador roses and I had our flower suppler send me 100 Ecuador roses.

Here is what I can do with 100 roses. First in my office I mixed four white roses with gladiolus and hydrangeas from our garden.

Gary-Scott-ecuador-roses

Two of the orange bi colors get mixed with more gladiolus and lilies… from our garden.

Next seven red roses are put at the entrance of our house.

They are gorgeous.

These white roses are are also headed for the seminar as well along with…

this dozen orange bi colors.

This leaves a dozen orange bi colors for our dining table.

Gary-Scott-ecuador-roses

This leaves a nice white bouquet for the kitchen window offset by Merri’s hydrangeas in the background.

Gary-Scott-ecuador-roses

Plus there is another nice vase full of reds in the kitchen also.

Gary-Scott-ecuador-roses

Finally I leave a couple of white roses to share breakfast… a view…quinoa pancakes and a “cuppa or two”.

Gary-Scott-ecuador-roses

In other words… 100 roses is a lot!

You can now have fresh Ecuador roses yourself or send them as gifts as well.

You can have 50 fresh cut (five days) roses from Ecuador delivered to any zip code in the USA…including Hawaii or Alaska.

Merri and I love Ecuador for the warmth and friendliness in the hearts of its people. We also love Ecuador’s beauty.  When an opportunity to send Ecuador roses and raise money for the poor occurred, we grab the chance.

I wrote about the roses, made a special offer and sold over 15,000 roses that raised $6,000 to help Ecuador’s poor. The money was used to provide schooling for gifted indigenous children and university educations for the older ones…and to buy aan InFocus projector used in free English classes for Ecuadorian children.

I regret that Fedex cannot deliver the roses in Canada or elsewhere outside the USA.

Fedex will deliver them to you within five days.  Open them. If you are not satisfied that these are truly remarkable roses, give them back to the Fedex driver and let me know. I’ll give you a full refund.

To assure the refund you must inspect the flowers with Fedex when they are delivered. If you are not satisfied they must be returned at the time of delivery.

There are three ways to obtain 50 or 100 fresh cut roses and save.

#1: We provide a service called Ecuador Living to assist those with a genuine and immediate interest in Ecuador. This service shares our continual research and experiences in global business, living and investing in Ecuador plus our contacts. We feel the service is a bargain at $119 a year.

#2: Order 100 roses instead. This reduces shipping and the price is only $129 for 100 roses. You save $53.

Fresher Quality Roses

You do not give up quality for the lower price. In fact the quality of your roses rises.

Most roses from Ecuador (and other S. American countries) go to Miami by air are stored in Miami then shipped by truck until they sit in a store. They can be a week or more old when you see them. The roses you receive from this offer are cut and stored overnight, driven by refrigerated truck to Quito Airport and flown to Miami to a special refrigerated Fedex facility, then flown to your Fedex destination for immediate delivery to your home or office. This means they last longer.

Environmentally Clean Roses

The roses your receive are certified by Veriflora. The VERIFLORA seal is a real, green program that regularly spot checks farms for ecologically sound systems that include:

1- Water and ecological conservation: implementing water management systems to prevent depletion of fresh water supplies.

2- Product quality: implementing practices to ensure the quality of the product through the whole chain of delivery to the final consumer.

3- Advanced agricultural practices: integrating organic practices wherever possible. To only use approved green label certified pesticides. To allow no discharge of pesticides run off into the environment.

4- Waste management: recycling and composting as well as the proper disposal of agricultural chemicals.

Certification means the growers have met or exceeded the requirements. There is no middle ground with Veriflora, no differing levels of certification. You either are ecologically sound and certified, or you aren’t.

That means you receive environmentally friendly roses.

Aromatherapy and Roses on Mother’s Day

Roses, roses and roses.  Mother’s Days are especially good days to add extra focus on roses.

See three ways to make Mother’s Day better with roses.

Silence in the clouds at our hacienda, Rosaspamba, in the Andes.  Rosaspamba in Quichua means “Place of roses.”

Because Ecuador is such a great place for roses and for silence, I wanted to share this Mother’s Day idea from our friend and supplier of all the essential oils we use, Candace Newman.

Aromatherapy and Silence

By Candace Newman

In a world full of overwhelming sights and sounds (often offensive), we can lose touch with the soul-value of silence. Smell is a silent language with profound effects on our mental state because the olfactory nerves connect directly into the emotional-limbic part of our brain.

Smell is a language of thoughts, memories and feelings. Aromas from genuine essential oils are also the language of our soul. Our heart recognizes these soulful elements, just like music and food made with love from the soul.

Aromas travel on our breath, and breath is recognized by many as the chord that binds the soul to the body. Aromas from pure essential oils also tend to slow down our breathing because the body wants more of this “good stuff”. This is a profound way to balance our autonomic nervous system which is usually busy with fight or flight responses with no relief in sight, burning out the adrenals.

Using essential oils to bring moments of quiet time into our day and night is one way to connect to some sense of peace and balance.

Without silence we don’t get to the quiet place within us … the safe inner sanctum of who we really are. This place is like the deep peace at the bottom of the ocean or heaven above the clouds. The “noise” of the day creates tumultuous waves on top of the ocean or the stormy clouds blocking the brilliant sky. If we don’t make a conscious effort to get beyond the waves and clouds, we won’t get to the jewel.

Consciousness and awareness are the first call. Then action to make time for silence calls for courage and discipline. The reward is some peace in our mind and love in our heart.

In addition to sights and sounds our nervous system is also bombarded with synthetic and toxic aromas. Having genuinely pure aromas in our lives is one of nature’s way to assist us through life. Each of us is the hero/heroine of our legend. Let’s make it the best we can. Aromas were intended to be part of our journey.  Candace

Tomorrow is the last day to order fresh Ecuador roses for Fedex delivery on Valentine’s Day. See how to order here.

Ecuador-roses-images

Ecuador roses are among the best, if not the best, in the World. The reason is a unique natural combinations of factors.

First it is the altitude, Quito (Ecuador’s capital) is one of the highest cities in Latin America, and roses are grown just a few hours from Quito.

Second is the location, Quito and its surrounding areas are in the middle of the world, which means that the sunlight hits it directly, which added to the altitude make a unique combination of location and height for the roses to receive as much sunlight as anywhere else in the world.

As you know sunlight gives roses its unique colors. In Ecuador sunlight has more strength and it is able to give more radiation to the rose plants. That is why Ecuadorian roses have amazing colors and also a unique combination of them, which you can’t find anywhere else.

Ecuador-roses-images

Another pro is that roses grow stronger there because the location and temperature are great. This gives the roses unique conditions to be better. This means, thicker stems, longer stems, brighter colors and a special combination of bicolor roses, that got their name because they have two tones and two different colors on their petals.

Ecuadorian Roses, which are sold at www.ecuadorshop.net, also last a really long time, having customers actually wondering what is happening with them. “I got roses on Christmas that are still hanging in there, we changed the water this morning and some of them still alive, and we are at the second week of January”, Gary.

This means that Ecuadorian roses give you a great price for the quality. A lot of work has been put in making sure that the roses are among the best, and the cold chain plus the rapid and effective service by Fedex, ensures that the roses arrive at such a great condition year round.

At www.ecuadorshop.net you can find a great selection of roses, not only they will help you out picking the best colors, but also will give you a better deal on price and quality than other suppliers. They use Fedex which means that roses will arrive at any zip code in the USA within 5 days from the day that they are cut.

3- Advanced agricultural practices: integrating organic practices wherever possible. To only use approved green label certified pesticides. To allow no discharge of pesticides run off into the environment.

4- Waste management: recycling and composting as well as the proper disposal of agricultural chemicals.

By March of 2007 the co-op that sends your roses had certified 144 acres.

Certification means the growers have met or exceeded the requirements. There is no middle ground with Veriflora, no differing levels of certification. You either are ecologically sound and certified, or you aren’t.

That means you receive environmentally friendly roses.

Billionaire… Geroge Soros  once said about business and investing:

Markets are constantly in a state of uncertainty and flux and money is made by discounting the obvious and betting on the unexpected.

This is why the last year of difficult economic times have created opportunity.   Changes in the  socio-economic paradigm create new unexpected opportunity.  As the establishments crumble, new opportunities are created.

This makes life really exciting (and lucrative) for the business pioneers who accept and embrace change.  Merri and I feel this way every day and hope to share the excitement and opportunity with you.

Soros also said:  I think there’s a lot of merit in an international economy and global markets, but they’re not sufficient because markets don’t look after social needs.   I’m not doing my philanthropic work, out of any kind of guilt, or any need to create good public relations. I’m doing it because I can afford to do it, and I believe in it.

Merri and I could not agree more.  We have been involved in international business for 40 years, but became involved with Land of the Sun Foundation (LOTS) because we wanted to help the indigenous beyond business.  One of the most pleasing aspects of our business in Ecuador is that our foundation donations to help the poor in Ecuador are approaching 1 million dollars. That’s more than we have made in this country but when we see how the funds have been used by the indigenous we have spent on education and creating jobs… our satisfaction goes way beyond profit.

Soros’s final sage comment is: The worse a situation becomes the less it takes to turn it around, the bigger the upside.

There are several ways to take advantage of the current economic situation… invest in good value stocks & bonds… real estate… commodities or  to have or start your own business.

This is also why we have always offered Ecuador roses to help LOTS.

Robert Ribadineira, our flower supplier,  has now created a Fresh Flower Party Plan for flowers that can help you earn income as you help the poor with Ecuador flowers..

Party plans have been a highly successful way to introduce new ideas by displaying and demonstrating a product to those gathered at a party.

Roberto’s Premium Flower Party not only develops income potential and helps the poor but also helps resolve a huge problem that the economic downturn has created in the US.

The problem is that in the last several years nearly half of America’s florists have gone out of business.

The industry magazine Florists’ Review shows statistics conforming a major decline in retail florists’ (brick and mortar shops) market share. Retail florists have been going out of business and the surviving shops have not been picking up their customers.

Supermarket flower sales are the biggest source of this loss.  Internet sales also grew.

Plus there is less business overall. The economic slowdown since 2007 took a bite.   The average price per transaction has gone down.  Martha Stewart’s “how-to” approach on TV, in print, and even on the radio also taught homemakers how to place a bunch of flowers in a simple vase so a florist is not required.

Martha Stewart Flowers sold flowers and vases and eliminated the labor aspect of floral arranging so they could sell flowers below the pricing of retail florists’ mixed bouquets.

Martha made it OK, even smart to show this simplicity at your dinner table so there is no need to order arrangements.

This is where opportunity comes in because fresh Ecuador flowers delivered in volume are a great value. They last so long, are so superior in color, size and quality but the  high cost of minimal delivery can make them seem expensive.

Minimal delivery?  The sad fact is that Fedex delivery to a home creates about half the cost of Ecuador roses.  Plus that cost is fixed… the same for 50 roses as for 10 or 20 or 100.

This is where a flower arranging party plan makes huge economic sense.

If one orders 100 or more roses, the cost per rose drops dramatically.  If one has a party so rose buyers come to the supplier… the final biggest cost of the fresh Ecuador rose… getting smaller numbers of roses into each home is eliminated.

The buyer comes to the rose!

The idea is have a party. No selling pressure… just a get together to share an idea on arranging flowers… every two weeks (fresh Ecuador flowers last about two weeks).  Those who wish can order flowers for the next party two weeks ahead.  If 15 people attend and each orders a dozen roses… one order of 150 roses brings the price down to about 75 cents per rose.

It is harder and harder to get fresh premium quality flowers.  The new paradigm is that low quality, short lived cut flowers now rule the market.  The parties make really premium flowers available at a price competitive with the low quality flowers.

The Premium Flower Party creates a new, fun and fulfilling way for Americans to have top quality fresh flowers in their homes.

The party plan originated with the  Tupperware Company in the early 1950s. Tupperware’s success was widely copied and the idea hosting a social event in homes to demonstrate a product has become a popular and proven business model that combines fun and personal customer service.

Party plans have been used to sell items such as kitchen products, home decor, jewelry, skincare and cosmetics.

Yet fresh premium quality flowers have never been marketed via a party plan…until now.  The demise of so many florists and new three day Fedex delivery capabilities have made the Premium Flower Party a logical entry in the new economic paradigm.

Here is a note that Roberto sent to me.

“Gary, The program will begin as follows. I expect some small changes as we evolve and adjust to circumstances.

The arrangements are the freshest premium quality flowers.

The can be sold at the Premium Flower Party at a price that  is very hard to duplicate. Selling 25 bouquets at the party creates an extra income in a truly enjoyable way for those who love being with friends, flowers and beauty.

The fun is that each person makes their bouquet at the party!

Plan to offer a different bouquet every two weeks so guests come twice a month to make their bouquet and take it to their home.

The party hostess can also become a florist and take special orders between each party.

The really good news is that Ecuador flowers and roses are truly the best because there is 365 days a year of direct sunlight.

The Premium Flower Party is a good way to earn income for those who like flowers… like parties… and want to work from home.

George Soros had written a  fascinating book entitled, “The New Paradigm for Financial Markets”.  This book explains that the next generation will have to understand bubbles rather than ignore them.  He is a deep thinker with ideas several decades ahead of his time.

The flowers delivered are environmentally friendly and fair trade flowers.

Roberto’s Fresh Flower Party Plan is an idea whose time has come and we help our International Business made EZ subscribers work with our flower supplier.

Until next message, may all your income be good and come with care.

These are really low prices for premium roses since Fedex added a fuel charge. Most competitors are charging $139.98 for 50 premium Ecuador roses.  We are able to keep the prices down for reasons explained below.

During the Valentine’s season the Ecuador rose farms are so busy they cannot give an automatic rose type or choice of color.    You can accept assorted colors or request half red or pink colors for a premium.

Here is one of our bouquets of red Ecuador roses.

ecuador-valentine's-roses

The roses cost more this season so our normal offer of fresh cut roses is now suspended until after Valentine’s Day.

This offer expires Friday, February 10, 2012 at noon EST.

You can have fresh Valentine’s Day roses yourself or send them as gifts …plus help Ecuador’s poor.

Merri and I love Ecuador for the warmth and friendliness in the hearts of its people. We also love Ecuador’s beauty.  When an opportunity to send Ecuador roses and raise money for the poor occurred earlier this year, we grabbed the chance.

I wrote about the roses, made a special offer and sold over 5,000 roses that raised $2,000 that helped Ecuador’s poor. The money was used to provide schooling for gifted indigenous children and to buy a  InFocus projector used in our free English classes for Ecuadorian children that the foundation provides.

So we offered Ecuador Christmas roses and sold over 9,000 raising another $3,660!

This is not a deal that helps my pocketbook. We donate our rose sale proceeds to help the Ecuador children.  This is why we can keep the prices of roses so low.  We do not have to support overheads with rose sales and donate more than we receive from the rose sales.  That’s okay…the cause is worthy.  Merri and I will share the joy of the gifts you help make…scholarships  for poor children in Ecuador.

Environmentally Clean Roses

The roses your receive are certified by Veriflora. The VERIFLORA seal is a real, green program that regularly spot check farms for ecologically sound systems that include:

1- Water and ecological conservation: implementing water management systems to prevent depletion of fresh water supplies.

2- Product quality: implementing practices to ensure the quality of the product through the whole chain of delivery to the final consumer.

3- Advanced agricultural practices: integrating organic practices wherever possible. To only use approved green label certified pesticides. To allow no discharge of pesticides run off into the environment.

4- Waste management: recycling and composting as well as the proper disposal of agricultural chemicals.

In addition the Verflora seal requires the rose grower to be socially responsible adhering to recognized labor and community standards, specially pertaining to health and safety, work conditions, hiring practices, discrimination, harassment and fair pay.

As the roses age,  I also hang them up to…

dry and make bouquets of dried roses and feathers.

International Micro Business Doing Good in Accumulating Wealth

An international micro business can be doing good as it accumulates wealth.

For example, our Ecuador micro business in roses provides Ecuador scholarships.

Merri and I are stick in the muds when it comes to doing things at night.  We are often in bed before nine… always before ten, unless it is some strange situation.

This weekend though for about the sixth time in 15 years of being up here in the mountains we were out after dark.  The cause of risking being turned into a pumpkin was worthy… a fund raiser for the FREE medical clinic in Jefferson, North Carolina… called the Festival of Tables.  12 groups decorated table settings… we all had a nice meal and an auction.  Last year this event raised ten thousand dollars for the clinic which helps provide health care to those who are not insured and cannot afford health care otherwise.

We contributed Ecuadorian roses and lilies and helped decorate this table.

ecuador-rosres

Its amazing what 50 roses and lilies can do.

Merri and I love Ecuadorian roses so it is not surprising that we offer them at our site… not for the money, but to help the people of Ecuador.  Our tradition has been to use our flower revenue to provide scholarships for children and to help Ecuador schools… so this was a double pleasure… in that we could help a little in Ecuador and Ashe County too.

Before we look at the benefits of the scholarships,  let me share why Ecuador roses not only create a business opportunity (use them as a fund raiser)  but are a phenomenal value!

See how to create an Ecuador rose business here.

Ecuador flowers make sense because they offer special value.

At $91, for 50 roses, the price can seem high… until one looks at the entire picture.  Half the cost of these roses is the Fedex delivery right to the doorstep.  That’s worth quite a bit… a big value enhancement.  However the real value is shown when you consider the number that the beauty of these flowers last.

Typically a dozen supermarket roses cost $15 to $19… excluding the cost of getting to the store and back.  You have to go there any way.  Right?  So 50 store roses cost $60 to $79.   If lucky, they last a week… more often only three days. They rarely have enough energy to fully open.

Fresh Ecuador roses arrive looking like this.

ecuador-roses

But soon open so they…

ecuador-roses

look like this.

Fresh cut Ecuador roses are beautiful but also have staying power.  One can always expect nine days… but with good care often much longer.  Many of the last roses were still looking good after an amazing 21 days!

I was delighted to receive this note from our flower supplier in Ecuador,  Roberto Ribadeneira,

Gary, I’ve notice that you are helping out a lot of young people with scholarships, which I think is the best way to help. Education has gone up in Ecuador. This is unbelievable.  How can communities pay that much? In any case I thought maybe we can do a Rose Promotion for the scholarships, that helps raise some funds for the kids who want to go to university.

The idea is to offer roses for Thursday 22, 2011 delivery.

I will drop the price on the roses for that day ONLY so all the monies will go straight to these kid’s education.

In Ecuador where access to education is very limited and most people end up losing their chance to get into higher education, this gives a way to help them achieve their dreams.

In a region such as Otavalo and Cotacachi where there is almost no government related jobs, most people rely on their own effort to make a living. Unlike highly paid autocrats in Quito who make a lot of money with little effort, people in Otavalo and Cotacachi are hard workers that make much less and have less access to put their kids in universities.

Now in an area where going to college is a privilege supporting these kids is very important, mainly because they do want to pursue a dream, and without access to college that dream will be elusive.

I have four students in mind:

Young Jenny Montufar said repeatedly “thank you so much…I’ll do my best to get the best grades and make everyone proud of me”.   She knows that without our help, she may never go to college.  She loves tourism, she likes to talk to people, to welcome them to Ecuador and have them come over and over again. So she is in tourism at a local college, hoping that soon she can guide tourists to every corner of Ecuador.

Jenny Montufar (right)

So we have four kids attending to college and making their best effort to graduate and go for their dreams. Cristian Simba for example, works during nights and goes to college as soon as he is off from work. So he rarely gets sleep, but he is proud that he is one of the few who can attend college, he is studying how to administer a business and he hopes to apply that to his current job.

Jonathan Guerrero hopes to be (ingeniero de sistemas) a computer engineer, which was unheard before in Cotacachi, where most people work at hotels, restaurants or on leather.  All of those are really good jobs, but far from being with the latest technology. So a young man in Cotacachi may be entering the new era as well.

Everyone has a story and a dream to fill while attending to College, and with a little help they can do it. What it is really important is that they commit to that, and they know it. Because they have to make their best effort to keep receiving help, because like them there are many other kids that need a scholarship as well.

For now these kids have a unique opportunity to make their community a little better, let’s hope that with our effort many more could do the same. But this is a give-give thing, we give them a hand and they stand up to the highest requirement, to be really good students and to make every dollar worth.

A scholarship must be earned and these kids are doing everything possible to be worth of it, and I do believe with a little help from everyone they can go to college and bring knowledge to their communities.

The cost of helping all three students for the next semester is $2,180 and with enough sales we can help these kids get that education.  I know that there are two others who are getting their reports/grades together also…and that you have helped them for the last few years, but I thought that I should help too with an offering of roses.   Roberto

This week until 5pm (EST) Saturday September 17, 2011, all funds that Roberto, Merri and I receive will go towards  scholarships for these three students and hopefully the other two applicants.

Ecuador Rose Business Opportunity

Here is how to profit with an Ecuador rose business.

ecuador-roses

Merri and I love flowers so it was not unusual that we were attracted to an Ecuador rose business.  Nor does it seems strange that on Merri’s recent birthday that 50 Ecuador roses arrived with cards wishing her a Happy Birthday.

These roses tell a tale beyond good wishes.

We regularly get raves about Ecuador roses like this:  Oh Roberto! My mother LOVED the roses!! She said they were the most beautiful as well as fragrant she has ever received. She so loved them that she has planted a rose of each color in her yard to grow them for the future. Thank you so much for making my mom so happy on her 89th birthday!! I will never order roses from anyone else ever again :~)

These Ecuador flowers  also show how to have a business opportunity and highlight the extra value of fresh Ecuador roses.

At $91, for 50 roses, the price can seem high… until one looks at the entire picture.  Half the cost of these roses is the Fedex delivery right to the doorstep. That’s worth quite a bit… a big value enhancement but the real value is shown when you consider the real value of Ecuador roses in the number of beauty days they offer per dollar.

Typically a dozen supermarket roses cost $15 to $19… excluding the cost of getting to the store and back. You have to go there any way.  Right?  So 50 store roses cost $60 to $79.   If lucky they last a week… more often only three days. They rarely have enough energy to fully open.

Fresh cut Ecuador roses also have staying power.  One can always expect nine days… but with good care often much longer.  Many of Merri’s birthday roses which arrived July 27 were still looking good on August 17… an amazing 21 days!

Ecuador rose tip: Pink bi color roses seem to have some of the greatest longevity.  Learn more about  fresh Ecuador roses here.

Because we love flowers it is also not unusual that Merri received dried flowers and feathers on her birthday which turned into…

ecuador-roses

floral arrangements like these… dried sunflowers, yarrow and ostrich feathers.

ecuador-roses

Cotscomb, hydrangea, sumac and poppy with peacock and pheasant feathers at our staircase.

With our love of flowers, it is also not unusual that we decided that one of the first turnkey businesses opportunities we chose to organize was involved with Ecuador flowers.

For those who want a turnkey start up micro business, we have started a program to help our readers create their own micro business working with these businesses we have used and like ourselves. You can become an introducer, referrer, dealer or distributor to a number of businesses we recommend.

This creates really unique global business potential tied together with our communication system… training… communicating and networking.

We are starting with these five businesses first.

#1: Ecuador Roses

#2: Bio Wash

#3: Candace Newman Essential Oils

#4: Jyske Global Asset Management  (JGAM)

#5: Ecuador Imbabura Export Products

One way to develop an Ecuador rose business is via fund raisers.

Because of our love for flowers it is not unusual that we use them to help raise money for good causes.  We have raised tens of thousands of dollars to help improve Ecuador schools. Currently we are using Ecuador roses to help raise money for a Free Medical Clinic in North Carolina.

The fundraiser is a Gala of Tables… a dinner with beautiful donated table settings set to themes.

Our theme is “In the Pink” featuring pink Ecuador roses and lilies and we did a test run last week.

The flowers are delivered from Fedex…

like this… well wrapped.

We immediately put them in a bucket of water.

Next day we went to work with our friends and created our test table setting.

What fun!  I love to arrange and rearrange flowers!

Extra Export Earnings IV – An Opportunity Dying for a Cause

Extra Export Earnings Part IV- An Opportunity Dying for a Cause

Inflation is everywhere and many could need extra income to maintain purchasing power.  However, we should remember having a cause is usually more important than having money.  This is a vital, really important business, as well as lifestyle, idea.

If you have a business that you love… if you are doing something you have a passion for…  if you have a cause that also earns extra income, your chances of success soar.  Doing something vital that you really believe in can help you live longer,  healthier and happier, too.

The simple fact is we all need a purpose… not just money, to do well.  The greater the cause… the better… even one worth dying for.

Exports Create Opportunity With a Cause.

Some very difficult economic times may be ahead.  Why? How? What can we each do?

To answer questions like this, I study previous difficult time, what happened and how humanity responded. Recently in such an endeavor I reread Winston Churchill’s “The Gathering Storm” which looks at the history of the roots of WWII.

According to Churchill WWII was born by weak governments who feared war so much they refused to take even simple measures that would have easily stopped any war effort before it was too late and the bubble of unreal peace burst.

This is something like Western governments after WWII.  Again the leaders have let the voters lead them.  Again voters have supported to many offering too much for too little.  Such fears of  recession stopped even simple measures before the global economic system became so overextended that the bubble of unreal prosperity burst.  Now times for many could be really tough with unemployment and inflation both rising at the same time.

Humanity’s solution was finally to get tough and let individual inspired action slowly save the day.

Having been raised in a seafaring family with naval officers and war hardened veterans, I was particularly touched by the story in “The Gathering Storm” of the power of  a cause worth dying for when the 1,085 ton destroyer “Glowworm” rammed the 10,000 ton German Cruiser “Hipper”.  Here is a copy of that story from “The Gathering Storm”.

Photos

That’s real passion for the job.

This picture puts the David and Goliath situation in more perspective showing graphically a 1,085 ton destroyer versus a 10 ton cruiser.  That’s commitment to a cause.

Photos

Perhaps this Mary Evans picture at www.prints.com would be a good one for every person starting their own business to put in their office to remember that passion is the key and the more important… the better.

I am not suggesting that you die or take risk for the cause in your business… but have seen and do believe that our chances of success in every way increase with our belief in and passion for whatever ideal we maintain in our activities.

Such belief is even more important in times of inflation and economic upheaval because business may require more effort with greater risk!  However our passion in business can sustain us through hard times. Do what you love!

Merri and I have found three passions in our Ecuador Flower export business.

First, we find great joy and satisfaction bringing beauty and adding happiness in people lives through flowers.

We regularly get letters like these in times of  joy: Hi Gary:  The roses arrived this morning and they are stunning!  I wasn’t offered a color choice but knew whatever the color, they would be beautiful. Boy, was I right!  When I opened the box, I found half to be red and half a multi-salmon/gold/pink color which is exactly what I would have chosen myself.  They were so beautiful I just had to share them with a couple of my friends.  They were, of course, elated.  I was surprised that, in addition to their beauty, they have a wonderful fragrance, unlike the roses that come from the florists. We look forward to seeing you soon.  Thanks.

and sorrow: Thank you very much for your personal attention to our order for 100 roses for a memorial service for my Mother. She  lived to be 103 plus. We purchased 3 white roses locally to complete the idea of one rose for each year of her life.

We ordered through Ecuador Living I believe on Tuesday May 3, may have been Mon night May 2, and they were delivered before noon on Friday May 6 and were very beautiful. The service was on Sat May 7. Most of the roses are still very pretty and in good shape, today May 24. And thank you for your condolences. Sincerely,

Those letters are worth more than the profit we gain from Extra Export Earnings we receive.

Cataclysmic economic events may be brewing around the globe. They do not have to worry you. You can take control of your affairs by creating our own micro business that earns extra through exports and fulfills your lifetsyle by turning your passion into profit.
