Radioactivity in the Heart

The government’s response to radioactivity in the heartland of America shows how large a problem we have.

A previous article at this site told how America was being attacked with radiation from the East and West.

Oregon shots

Lincoln City on the beach in Oregon… a great place to enjoy nature.  Merri and I go there often with my sister and mom, but the West coast has been threatened by radioactivity from Japan.

Then another article looked at radioactive waste in St. Louis that was at risk from smoldering trash.  There were warnings that subsurface burning caused by the heating of garbage in an underground landfill could reach thousands of tons of radioactive garbage buried.

In 1973, a company illegally dumped 7,900 tons of leached barium sulfate, in the West Lake landfill outside of St. Louis.

That barium sulfate was a byproduct of Mallinckrodt Chemical Works’ uranium enrichment program as a part of the Manhattan Project and later nuclear weapons production.

This radioactive material and other contaminants at the site, West Lake was proposed as a Superfund site in October 1989, and was officially listed as such a site in August 1990.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission discovered the disposal and investigated the site, publishing a report in 1977.

Radioactive material near a huge city.

I bet they got that cleaned up quickly.

Right?

Now it’s 2018, over 40 years later and the EPA has finally ordered the cleanup.

According to the Washington Post article “EPA orders cleanup at St. Louis nuclear waste site. What does it mean for the nation’s other toxic messes?” (1)  The cleanup might not be soon.

One of the four potentially responsible companies said it was “Pleased that the EPA has finally ended decades of study and again is issuing a proposed plan for the site.”  But the company cautioned that a final decision could take years.

Evidently cleaning up radioactivity in St. Louis is not a priority, and this is just the tip of the tip of the iceberg as the article explains that there are 1,344 Superfund sites.

radiation

One of the sites I know all about is the Hanford on the Columbia River, upriver from where I was reared.

Fwd: nuclear-sites

The Hanford site from http://www.hanford.gov.

During the Cold War, the project was expanded to include nine nuclear reactors and five large plutonium processing complexes, which produced plutonium for most of the 60,000 weapons in the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

Many of the early safety procedures and waste disposal practices were inadequate.  Government documents have since confirmed that Hanford’s operations released significant amounts of radioactive materials into the air and the Columbia River, which threatened the health of residents and ecosystems.

There are the 56 million gallons of radioactive waste held in 177 underground tanks. (2)

The leaks release contamination the groundwater that flows underground toward the Columbia River.

In 2016 a leak worsened in one of the massive double shell tanks holding nuclear waste.

The U.S. Department of Energy called the leak an “anticipated” outcome of an ongoing effort to empty the tank in question.

One former tank farm worker said: “This is catastrophic. This is probably the biggest event to ever happen in tank farm history.  The double shell tanks were supposed to be the saviors of all saviors (to hold waste safely from people and the environment).”

The 28 double-shell tanks are outliving their planned design life, and they are the newer tanks.

There are also 149 older single shell tanks are known to have leaked or spilled waste.

In 2017 due to the partial collapse of a radioactive waste storage tunnel at Hanford, thousands of workers were ordered to take cover indoors.

They remained inside office trailers and other structures with ventilation systems shut down and windows closed, and told not to eat or drink, and waited to learn how bad the emergency was.

Franklin and Benton Counties activated their emergency operations centers, and many in the Tri-Cities anxiously waited to hear if loved ones at Hanford were OK and whether the local communities were at risk.

The 62-year-old tunnel that partially collapsed was built of timbers, which officials knew were deteriorating from the radiation from eight rail cars loaded with highly contaminated, failed equipment from the processing plant.

A second tunnel, holding 28 rail cars of highly radioactive contamination, was built in 1964 of concrete and steel. But it also is at risk of collapse, according to a structural analysis done since the problem with the first tunnel.

Old structures will continue to deteriorate, and the containers of radioactive waste — buried temporarily until permanent disposal could be arranged — will disintegrate and fall apart.

To make matters worse, the tunnels weren’t really considered to be the big risk. There are many other problems that are worse.

One higher priority is to get radioactive sludge out of underwater storage near the Columbia River.

Where does the cleanup effort get the resources?

The current administration proposed cutting budgets for the Richland Operations Office in two budget requests to Congress after the tunnel incident.

In the year that followed, the tunnel collapsed on May 9, 2017, 42 workers inhaled or ingested airborne plutonium or other particles of radioactive material.

Those exposures, which occurred during demolition of the highly contaminated Plutonium Finishing Plant, and the collapse of the tunnel were the result of DOE not taking risk seriously enough, according to said Tom Carpenter, executive director of Hanford Challenge, a watch group.

Other Hanford watchers say the collapse was the result of limited money to address the most serious risks at the site, as aging facilities — some of them built during World War II — deteriorate.

The Hanford Site, employing more than 9,000 permanent workers and additional subcontract workers, remained essentially shut down for three or four days after the partial tunnel collapse, said David Reeploeg, Vice President for federal programs for the Tri-City Development Council.

“A worse incident could leave the site shut down not for a few days, but for a few months or a few years,” he said.

“I worry that Hanford management tends to be dismissive of these types of risk,” Carpenter said. “A large contamination event could be game over for Hanford.”

An analysis of the airborne spread of contamination during demolition in December showed that there were warning signs that workers could be at risk, but they were overlooked.

These are reported facts but it appears there are efforts to suppress the realty at the site.

There have been whistle-blower complaints of mismanagement and suppression of dissent from Washington senators. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, both Democrats, have requested an investigation of workers’ compensation at Hanford, citing worker allegations of intimidation and harassment after they filed claims.  These stated they are concerned that the current administration’s recent stay of a regulation to protect whistle-blowers may discourage workers from coming forward.

The Hanford site might be the worst Superfund site… or not.

The Problem May be Worse and Growing in the East.

Fwd: nuclear-sites

Photo of Savannah River Site from New York Times article.

The Savannah River Site is a nuclear reservation of South Carolina, located on land in Aiken, Allendale and Barnwell Counties adjacent to the Savannah River, 25 miles southeast of Augusta, Georgia.  The site was built during the 1950s to refine nuclear materials for deployment in nuclear weapons.  It covers 310 square miles.  This is one of the most radioactive sites in the United States.  There are millions of gallons of high-level nuclear waste stored in 49 leaking tanks that sits on an earthquake fault and one of the most important aquifers in the South.

To resolve this problem, a facility to reprocess weapons-grade plutonium and uranium into fuel for reactors was initiated in 2004.  However estimated construction costs soared from $1.4 billion in 2004 to more than $17 billion.  About $5 billion had already been spent by last year and completion was not expected until 2048.

Now the entire idea has been reversed.

Internal government reports drafted earlier this year indicate serious and persistent safety issues still plague the Savannah River site, according to a recent report by the Center for Public Integrity.

Despite this fact, the federal agency that oversees the nation’s nuclear weapons stockpile recently recommended that instead of turning weapons grade uranium into fuel, the plant will be changed to produce 50 plutonium cores a year that trigger nuclear warheads.

Officials said the plan will boost the resiliency and flexibility of weapons manufacturing.

The National Nuclear Security Administration’s recommendation comes as the United States looks to ramp up production of the plutonium cores to 80 per year by 2030, citing the “evolving and uncertain geopolitical landscape,” according to a joint statement from U.S. Energy Department and Department of Defense officials.

“We share a deep commitment to recapitalizing the capabilities the United States’ needs to deter its adversaries and assure our allies and partners,” the statement said.

At least 50 of the plutonium cores, also known as pits, will be produced each year at the U.S. Energy Department’s Savannah River Site.

Pits are a term for a small atom bomb that, when detonated inside a warhead, acts as an extraordinarily hot match to ignite a much larger mass of thermonuclear fuel.  The resulting blast can easily be 1,000 times as powerful as the atomic bomb that destroyed Hiroshima.

One of the most closely held secrets of the nuclear age is how to make pits very small yet highly reliable…most are about the size of a grapefruit.  The small size makes thermonuclear warheads compact and lightweight enough to fit atop long-range missiles — it is one of the technologies that North Korea has been seeking, and may have already figured out.

Several studies are needed and environmental concerns are to be addressed before this plan can be fully proceed, but my research shows that job creation is a bigger issue than the environment.

Rep. Rick Allen, a Republican from Georgia, criticized the move on Friday, saying he still believes “MOX is the most viable way forward to dispose of our weapon’s grade plutonium,” but he also supports installing pits at the Savannah River Site, which will continue to provide jobs in the local economy.

The news about these two super fund sites is awful, but the fact that these are only two of 1,334 sites is truly horrifying!

Protect Yourself against Radiation.

These are complicated, serious issues, but the message here is not about pollution, nor is is it about whether or not the US should build more nuclear weapons.

The goal of this report is to point out that we cannot depend on the government, the system, or the establishment to look after our health.

We need to develop our own health defenses which is why we created three natural health reports.

Industrialization and the western lifestyle means we are now surrounded with increased pollution of all types.  One of the worst forms of pollution is radiation and as we can see the risks of increased radioactive exposure may enhance this concern.

The nuclear issue is complex.  Nuclear energy has good and bad points. Whether nuclear energy should or will be eliminated is not the issue here.

There are three facts:

#1: Radiation is dangerous, and we need to protect ourselves against it.

#2: There is a lot of radioactive material and waste around and more is being produced every day.

#3: Many governments have a history of lying about the risks of radiation.

Each of us should protect ourselves from radiation.  Our Natural Health reports can help.

Learn seven steps that Merri and I have used to protect against radiation after being exposed during the Chernobyl nuclear accident.

One of the biggest economic and lifestyle problems this pollution creates in the Western world is the growing cost of health care.  Now the risks of increased radioactive exposure may enhance this concern.

Regretfully radiation exposure is not new, and this report outlines how my wife and I,  just in the normal course of life, have been exposed to radioactive materials again and again.

I was born in Portland, Oregon in 1946 and grew up on the Columbia River… an area that has great beauty… and is natural and pristine.

Well… not quite.

As a child, on the hot muggy days of summer, I used to accompany my family to Rooster Rock State Park (about a 15 minute drive from our home) and soak for hours in the Columbia River.  Surrounded by nature… swimming  in the cool water… running on the warm sandy beach.

This seemed wonderful for our well being and health.

Not exactly.

A report “Radionuclides in the Columbia River” published by the Washington State Department of Health shows how beginning in the 1950s for more than 40 years, the U.S. government produced plutonium for nuclear weapons at the Hanford Site in south central Washington state.”

The report outlines how that river I swam in every day was radiated.

Then the report shares how Merri and I later were radiated during the Chernobyl fallout.

Learn the seven steps we took to restore our good health after a serious radiation exposure from the Chernobyl nuclear accident and how this may help you.  If North America receives fallout from the nuclear accident in Japan or problems at the Hanford or Savannah sites in our natural health, you can find the reports described below.

How the Hogberry Helps With COVID-19

Gain Amazing Health Benefits with the Hogberry

Research is showing that excess body fat can complicate the risks of COVID-19.

A recent article in USA Today, “As obesity’s link to COVID-19 grows, one family that lost 24-year-old daughter diets together” (1) tells the tale.

The article says:  The parents and two brothers of Silvia Deyanira Melendez, 24, are all in therapy after losing their daughter and sister to COVID-19 on March 28.  She weighed more than 300 pounds with a body mass index of 60, double the BMI considered obese. This most likely contributed heavily to her Type 2 diabetes, hypertension and a heart condition that required open-heart surgery two years ago.

The chronic conditions that increase the risk of serious illness and death of COVID-19 are now well known: diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and being older than 65. Obesity is less well known or understood. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention groups “severe obesity,” defined as having a BMI of 40 or higher, with the other known “risk factors for serious illness” for COVID-19.

A growing number of studies and data on COVID-19 deaths confirm the link. The extra weight on people in the 40-plus BMI range who contract COVID-19 increases the chance they will require hospitalization, most likely in the intensive care unit. It also hampers the ability of physicians to treat them, especially with ventilators, doctors say.

Body fat complicates many health problems.   For example more than 100 studies have found that physical activity can lower cancer risk and even help cure cancer.  Fortunately researchers asked why and one answer became clear. Body fat.

Studies showed that reduced body fat creates  a 25% lower chance of developing cancer.

pixabay

Fortunately there is a little known way to reduce body fat that does not even require exercise.? I’ll share more on this secret in a moment.

First, body fat, COVID-19 and cancer? Let’s ask why?

Part of the answer is toxicity.

Healthy bodies naturally and regularly remove water-soluble toxins from the body. Our blood and kidneys flush them away.

Fat-soluble toxins such as metals, pesticides, preservatives, other pollutants are harder to flush out of the system. Fat-soluble toxins must become water-soluble before the body can get rid of them. The liver can do this conversion (bile emulsifies fat-souble toxins into water-soluble). This process requires healthy digestive and detox pathways. When they become imbalanced, fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat cells and brain cells instead. These toxins can remain for decades and create health problems.

The fat stored toxins cause oxidation (free radical damage) and degeneration as well as mutation. Toxins in the fatty tissue of the brain become neurotoxins that can cause cognitive problems and a host of mental and brain imbalances.

Burn Fat to Burn Toxins

When you burn fat you turn on the body’s detox fuel.  Fat metabolism is the body’s natural form of energy. Fat metabolism provides a more steady energy than glucose metabolism and flushes fat cells free of toxins. As the toxicity drops, the nervous system has reduced stress and will naturally burn fat instead of sugar.

This is why I have written a short report entitled “The FAST Way to Better Health” that features a special tea that can help reduce body fat.

The Key is in the Hogberry

I would like to send you a report “The FAST Way to Better Health” that reveals the secret of the Hogberry, FREE when you order my three Natural Health reports described below.

This reoort is only available with my three Natural Health Reports.

These three reports are about:

#1: Nutrition

#2: Purification

#3: Exercise

In this special offer I want to send you a special report on how you can gain better natural health with the hogberry along with three other reports that reveal secrets of health and longevity.

The Commonwealth Fund in its latest survey on overall health care ranked US healthcare dead last compared to 10 major countries.  Despite being worst, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Times have all warned about huge, increasingly costly, health care changes.  There are enormous problems in hospitals and chances are they are going to get worse, with the added complication of COVID-19.

When it comes to health care, we may well be on our own. The very people, institutions and establishments that we should rely on may actually hurt rather than help our health.

Ancient health wisdom accumulated around the world, over the millennia, can fill the gap.

The way to escape the dangers of high cost, deteriorating health care, is to not need it.  Declare health independence… and create natural good health. There are dozens of simple, really low costs steps that can improve health… eating, purification, exercise, even the way we think and don’t think when we sleep.

Ancient health wisdom from around the world can help us reduce our risks of poor health care and help us fight the ever rising costs.

For nearly 50 years my wife Merri and I have lived and worked around the world. During this time, we checked out just about every source on natural health care. We even  spent years living with natural health care insiders, and trying the lessons they offered.

We took thousands of readers to Ecuador, met with shamans in the Andes and Amazon. We helped other readers visit India and also learn great health care ideas from China and beyond.

Since not everyone can go to Ecuador or travel the world, we have created three Natural Health Reports that can help improve the power that your body has.  These reports are concise and to the point. In 15 minutes the first report shows exactly how to start preparing for better health and more energy.

We do not have to depend on the health care and health insurance monopolies for better natural health… or cave into a healthcare system that can put us at risk and charge outrageous prices at the same time.

Our health reports provide information on how to use ancient health care systems to become more healthy, self sufficient – providing our own good health.

The first report is “Sunski?”, the Andean word for good eating, for maximum nutrition and purification.

We started the series with eating because so many of our readers have found that a blend of Indian and Andean shamanic nutrition helped them kick start their health with weight trimming.

Good eating is the first step towards natural health. The first rule of good health is getting the correct nutrition.  The second step is purification of toxins and eating to avoid getting impurities in our body in the first place!

Sunski is a way to eat that strengthens and purifies as it stops adding toxicity from eating.  Yet Sunski is a delicious, healthy “self defined” cleansing process.  One chapter in Sunski shows how to correct a simple mistake that most of the Western population makes which increases the chances of adding and retaining weight by 84%.

Sunski combines lessons about healthy eating that we learned from years of working with all types of Western healers, ayurvedic health masters and then living with an Ecuador Taita Yatchak and his apprentices.

We lived, worked, farmed, cooked and ate with this Taita Yatchak for years while learning “Sunski”.

shaman

The “Sunski” report was 50 years and millions of miles of travel in the making.

We’ve invested thousands of hours into learning the skills of health self-reliance and resilience, identifying the best foods and combinations and sifted through loads of seeming contradictions to get to the facts about “do it yourself” longevity and natural health.

But that wasn’t enough – not when our good health was on the line. So we consulted dozens of top professions who know a lot about natural health. We spoke with holistic MDs, osteopaths, chiropractors, Indian vidyas, Andean yatchaks, and other self-reliant natural health experts who live a naturally healthy path every day.

Don’t let the simplicity fool you… years of research went into these reports.

And we only kept the best of the best: this system is complete – and FAST to learn – so you can get started immediately.

We all need to stay out of hospitals and reduce our exposure to modern medical risks and costs.

Why re-invent the wheel? Especially when time is NOT on our side.? We’ve already done the hard work for you pulling together the information so you can create better natural, good health.

Imagine… never worrying about what you eat and reducing the risks of hospitalization and health care’s outrageous costs.

A few of the life balancing nutritional tips include how to:

#1: Eat a balance of fat, carbohydrates and protein.

#2: Eat combinations of food for ideal digestion.

#3: Eat in good spirits at the right times of day while chewing in a special way.

This report includes a complete list of EZ to use recipes that will immediately improve your short term energy… and your long term natural health – so that you never have to guess what foods you need (or rely on the health care establishment).

quinoa pancakes

One of the recipes is for high protein Chocolate Quinoa Pancakes.

Recipes include:

  • Carrot Cake Quinoa Brownie with Stevia
  • Thermos Quinoa Kichiri
  • High Protein Veggie Almond Savory Cottage Pie
  • Mild Turmeric Curry
  • Low Carb Quinoa Tapioca Crumble

  • Why it is good (in fact almost a requirement) to sometimes eat junk food.

All of this information is in “Sunski” the first of the three natural health reports.

These reports focus on how to have good natural health so you can remain independent and avoid costly medical care.

The second report shows you how to purify and detoxify existing poisons that have accumulated in your system.

The third report is about exercise… but not the type you would think.

Unlock the Mystery of Key Muscles

This third report unveils one exercise that energizes and coordinates the digestive system by exercising a set of key muscles, not while you are in a gym, but when you eat!  The body has a number of key muscles that regulate breathing, digestion, circulation, elimination and muscular motion.

The third report reveals an exercise you can do at the dinner table to energize these muscles which in turn coordinate every other muscle and organ in the body. Eating in this way for example (most of the modern world does not) energizes just one key muscle that regulates part of our ability to burn sugars and fat.

The report looks at oxygenation, coordination, purification, energy boosting, education, occupation and relaxation.

I want to thank you for the wonderful time. I travailed from California to hear you convey your knowledge in the way you do so well, and I wasn’t disappointed.  The amount of information in the sessions was almost overwhelming, but it’s exactly what I went to hear.” – B.R. California

The technical information I gathered was most not new to me, but I like to compliment you for putting it all in the right perspective and to make it very understandable to all.  What was at our opinion one of the most important gaining of these 3 days is the opening of the new world, this new circle of what you call ‘normal’ people! (I call us ‘not normal’ as a matter of respect to the majority.)  But as we know, all is relative and depends at the point of view of each, His spiritual mind and his opinion about the senses of our being.” – E.V. Florida

People who, among other things, are active and productive and creative and resourceful, whose word can be counted upon; People who realize that spirituality DOES NOT mean sitting in a cave contemplating your navel and weaving baskets, nor does it equate in the Western culture with living in abject poverty.  People who realize that abundance is not a dirty word. People who understand that we are here to ENGAGE life, not to submit to circumstances out of fear and ignorance and apathy; People who don’t just use the most current ‘buzz words’ so they can feel like they are part of the group, but who actually DO something… Builders. Thank you for showing up in my life.” – E.W. Nevada

Radioactivity in the Heart

Now we have to worry about radioactivity in the heartland of America.

An article was previously posted at this site that told how America was being attacked with radiation from the East and West.

Oregon shots

Lincoln City on the beach in Oregon… a great place to enjoy nature.  Merri and I go there often with my sister and mom.

We’ll look at the risk east and west in a moment.  But now we have a risk in the heartlands as well.

A Wall Street Journal article “Radioactive Waste in St. Louis at Risk From Smoldering Trash – Garbage at Landfill Said to Encroach on Radioactive Waste on Site” by John R. Emshwiller (1) shares warnings that subsurface burning caused by the heating of garbage in an underground landfill could reach thousands of tons of radioactive garbage is buried.

An EPA report said that if heated, the nuclear waste could put increased amounts of radioactive radon into the air.

The article says: Federal regulators meanwhile are testing for more possible radioactive contamination in a suburban St. Louis area, while local health officials are adding staff for a possible major radiation-related health study of current and former residents of some neighborhoods.

In the West there remains concern that radiation is coming from Japan.  Many studies suggest this is not severe, but monkeys in forests near Fukushima have been examined and found to have lower blood cell counts than monkeys from northern Japan.  They also have detectable levels of cesium.

The low blood cell counts can compromise the immune system and increase vulnerability to disease.

These findings are similar to findings in red blood cells and hemoglobin content of children living around Chernobyl.

This may or may not have a US impact but a bigger radiation concern in the west is the Hanford on the Columbia River.

Fwd: nuclear-sites

The Hanford site from http://www.hanford.gov  (2)

During the Cold War, the project was expanded to include nine nuclear reactors and five large plutonium processing complexes, which produced plutonium for most of the 60,000 weapons in the U.S. nuclear arsenal.

Many of the early safety procedures and waste disposal practices were inadequate. Government documents have since confirmed that Hanford’s operations released significant amounts of radioactive materials into the air and the Columbia River, which threatened the health of residents and ecosystems.

The Problem Grows

An excavator carefully picks up a drum over pack of the 618-10 Burial Ground, one of Hanford’s most hazardous.  The overpack is used to encapsulate materials found in the burial ground so it can be evaluated and properly disposed.

Today, the most significant challenge at Hanford is stabilizing the 53 million U.S. gallons of high-level radioactive waste stored in 177 underground tanks.  About a third of these tanks have leaked waste into the soil and groundwater.

The Problem is Worse in the East.

Fwd: nuclear-sites

Photo from New York Times article “Cleaning the Savannah River Site” (3)

The Savannah River Site is a nuclear reservation of South Carolina, located on land in Aiken, Allendale and Barnwell Counties adjacent to the Savannah River, 25 miles southeast of Augusta, Georgia.  The site was built during the 1950s to refine nuclear materials for deployment in nuclear weapons. It covers 310 square miles.

In September 2011 a huge problem began.  Because of the controversy about storing radioactive waste at Yucca Mountain Nevada, the Under Secretary of State for Arms Control, Ellen Tauscher said on September 19, 2011, that high-level nuclear waste once destined for the Yucca Mountain repository will be sent, instead, to the Department of Energy’s Savannah River Site.

Good thinking?  Moving the waste from a remote place into the center of one of the most populated parts of the country!

This is already the  most radioactive site in the United States.  There are millions of gallons of high-level nuclear waste stored in 49 leaking tanks that sits on an earthquake fault and one of the most important aquifers in the South.

Regretfully radiation exposure is not new and this report outlines how my wife and I,  just in the normal course of life, have been exposed to radioactive materials again and again.

I was born in Portland, Oregon in 1946 and grew up on the Columbia River… an area that has great beauty… is natural and pristine.

Well… not quite.

As a child, on the hot muggy days of summer I used to accompany my family to Rooster Rock State Park (about a 15 minute drive from our home) and soak for hours in the Columbia River.  Surrounded by nature… swimming  in the cool water… running on the warm sandy beach.

This seemed wonderful for our well being and health.

Not exactly.

A report “Radionuclides in the Columbia River” published by the Washington State Department of Health shows how beginning in the 1950s “For more than 40 years, the U.S. government produced plutonium for nuclear weapons at the Hanford Site in south central Washington state.”

The report outlines how that river I swam in every day was radiated.

Then the report shares how Merri and I later were radiated during the Chernobyl fallout.

Learn the seven steps we took to restore our good health after a serious radiation exposure from the Chernoyl nuclear accident and how this may help you if North America receives fallout from the nuclear accident in Japan or problems at the Hanford or Savannah sites.
