Giving & Receiving an Ecuador Lesson

Merri and I have learned a lot from giving and receiving in Ecuador…. about the deepest patterns of nature and how they can bring happiness and success.

There seems to be an equilibrium at the Ecuador… something that comes from being at the center of the world… centers everything.  So sometimes simple but profound objects in life are easier to see.

Today I was thinking about Boxing Day, celebrated as a public holiday in Britain and most Commonwealth countries, the day after Christmas… a day for the poor to receive gifts.

This idea of receiving is an important part of nature’s reality that many investors miss.

When we learn to give, we also need to learn how to receive.

Near our Florida home is a small lake. I was thinking about these wonderful patterns of nature as I drove by at dawn enveloped in the last moments of this holiday’s cheer and saw…  the egrets resting quietly, in…

ecuador-receiving

beauty… a painting in nature’s grand palate.

ecuador-receiving

Their arrangement was so meaningful…  notes on the sheet music of life’s melody… a harmony that reflects the composition of our existence,  the repeated beats on the staff of our lives… an ultimate symphony if we’ll stop to listen.

Receiving…the Boxing Day celebration began in Victorian England, when on the day after Christmas, the rich would box gifts and give them to the poor.  The Christmas carol, “Good King Wenceslas”, is a song about giving these gifts such as flesh, wine, and pine logs.

The British have it right for if Christmas is a day of giving… as the poor did on Christmas… as they toiled to serve,  then Boxing Day is the day to receive.

Every day can only be a precious gift if we are able to receive it as we also give.

Investors miss this point all too often. They enter investments with no exit plan. They invest without having any idea of the gains they expect.

This is not the way the universe works. Nature’s infinite abundance is our birthright only when we are ready to receive its abundance.

Today why not take stock of what you are ready, willing and able to receive?

Yesterday we celebrated the spirit of giving.  Complete the cycle today and raise your expectations. Start thinking about what you really can receive. Then you’ll be headed for a balanced and wonderful new year ahead.

Join us all year long… seminars and tours in North Carolina Florida and Ecuador.   Gain huge discounts by attending multiple seminars tours.

We just added four South coast Ecuador tours that can help you gain extra savings with a multi tour pack.

These extra tours create a dilemma for me. See how below.

Here are our multi tour adventure discounts.

Two Pack… 2 seminar courses & tours $998 Couple  $1,349 Save $149 on couple

Three Pack… 3 seminar courses & tours   $1399 Couple  $1,899 Save $98 single or $348 on a couple or more

Four Pack… 4 seminar courses & tours   $1,699 Couple $2,299 Save $98 single or $697 on a couple or more

Five Pack… 5 seminar courses & tours  $1,999 Couple $2,699 Save $496 single or $1,046 on a couple or more

Six Pack… 6 seminars courses & tours  $2,199 Couple $3,099 Save $795 single or $1,395 on a couple or more

These four new south coast tours and our six pack tour price create a bit of a crisis here.

As you can see above a six pack costs $3,099.  This is already a really low price for a tour that last up to 21 days (under $150 a day).

But as you will see below, our International Club membership which allows you and a guest to attend up to 56 courses and tours in 2010  (fees would be $40,947 for all these courses individually) is only $2,999.

Which would you choose… 6 courses and tours for $3,099 or those same 6 courses and tours plus 50 more for $2,999?

“Duh,” I said when this was pointed out to me.

So our only solution is to raise the International Club membership to $3,500… still a terrific deal… but $501 more than before.

Save $37,457…plus $501.  I will not raise the International club fee until January 2010. Enroll in the International Club now at the original fee of $2,999.

You may well wonder why I would make such an offer and ask why the cost is so low? Let me answer this question frankly and from the heart.

First, it helps us do a better job for you. We feel greatly enriched when we can really help our clients improve their lives. We have learned through years of experience the best way to do this is to meet with you regularly. We can best help you learn how to improve your health and wealth through continual expansion of knowledge.

Second, we gain enormous fulfillment from the many friendships we form through the years. Our friends have enriched our lives tremendously. Let me explain this in more detail.

As a member, you will be part of our international family that meets intensively over the next year to examine ways we can make our lives better. Our goal is beyond just having money. Our goal is to have quantum wealth… good health… wealth and fulfillment through service.

Though I give all course delegates my very best, I cannot help but to do a better job for those who come again and again. As we meet often; your particular wants, needs and desires become clear, and it is easier for me to point you in the right direction.

Another phenomenon is that repeat delegates help each other! They get to know one another, help each other learn, share their insights, make contacts and gain more wealth.

Out associates in Ecuador, are experienced business people who live or work and conduct our real estate and export courses.  They can also act as your local backup for the business.

Lifestyle for Two. There is more! I have learned at my courses that many repeat delegates were couples.

We want couples! As a member of the program, you are entitled to bring another person to every single course or tour. The cost for that extra person will be ZERO!  You can bring whomever you wish. Bring your spouse, a friend, son or daughter, partner, accountant, adviser. You can bring the same person each time or a different person, whomever you choose to accompany you. (Accommodations and air fares relating to the courses are not included for members, delegates or their guests.)

Won’t you join us in this exciting club and share Merri’s and my lifestyle for the next year? We look forward to seeing you at as many courses as possible and sharing this wonderful world of abundance and well being with you!

Ecuador Rose Deadline

The Ecuador rose deadline for Christmas Ecuador roses is noon EST today December 15, 2009.

Ecuador-roses

Here is an Ecuador Rose Bowl.

You can order New Year roses for another week.

Merri and I love our Ecuador roses when they are fresh. Here are some in our dining room.

Ecuador-roses

We use several Ecuador rose tricks to get the most, longest, bang out of their beauty as well.

Here are two longevity tips for your roses from Ecuador.

Ecuador Rose Tip #1: Once the roses begin to sag (usually seven to nine days when properly cared for), in North Carolina, I hang them upside down and let them dry.

Ecuador-roses

Here are some Ecuador roses drying in our kitchen. They are a wonderful decoration while drying and…

Ecuador-roses

the dried Ecuador roses make excellent dried rose bouquets… like these two bouquets of Ecuador roses at the entrance of our home.

Ecuador-roses

Ecuador Rose Tip #2: In Florida, where the humidity makes it harder to dry our Ecuador roses, I create Ecuadorian rose bowls!

Ecuador-roses

I simply pull off the heads off the limp Ecuador roses and arrange them in a bowl. They look great decorating our kitchen counter or dining room table… like this.
Ecuador-roses

Our Ecuador rose supplier has extended the deadline until noon today December 15, to order Christmas roses from Ecuador.

You can order New Year roses from Ecuador for another week.

Our Ecuador flower supplier just sent me this note.

Gary, I have extended the deadline for Christmas roses to noon Eastern Standard Time December 15, 2009.

We can accept orders for New Year roses delivered next Tuesday December 29, 2009 up to noon Eastern Standard Time, Tuesday December 22, 2009.

There are three ways to obtain 50 fresh cut roses.

One. We provide a service called Ecuador Living to assist those with a genuine and immediate interest in Ecuador. This service shares our continual research and experiences in global business, living and investing in Ecuador plus our contacts. We feel the service is a bargain at $119 a year.  If you already subscribe you can take this choice and add two years to your subscription.

If you subscribe for two years, I’ll reduce the price from $238 to $159 and also send you 50 fresh cut, premium roses FREE.

Fedex will deliver the Ecuador roses directly to you from Ecuador.  Open them. If you are not satisfied that these are truly remarkable roses, give them back to the Fedex driver and let me know. I’ll give you a full $159 refund.

To assure the refund, your address must be correct and you must inspect the flowers with Fedex when they are delivered. If you are not satisfied, the roses must be returned at the time of delivery.   You must assure that someone is at the receiving address who is available to inspect and sign for the roses to assure the guarantee.

Subscribe to two years of Ecuador Living.  Save $79 plus receive 50 roses free.

If you do not have a great interest in Ecuador but just want these incredible, fresh roses. Simply buy them for $79 for 50 fresh cut roses including delivery by Fedex. ($10 surcharge for red & white roses).

This is not a deal that helps my pocketbook.  We are paying $60 ($70 for red  white roses) to deliver these roses to you. We donate $20 to the charity. We pay my credit card discount. At the $79 price ($89 for red & white), I lose two or three dollars for each 50 roses shipped.  That’s okay…the cause is worthy.  Merri and I will share the joy of the gifts you help make…Christmas gifts for poor children in Ecuador.

You can order the 50 fresh cut roses for $79 ($20 is donated to help Ecuador’s poor) here.

You can order 50 red and white fresh cut roses for $89 ($20 is donated to help Ecuador’s poor) here.

Gary-with-roses

Here I am with 250 fresh Ecuador roses I had delivered for Merri’s birthday.

Merri and I love Ecuador for the warmth and friendliness in the hearts of its people. We also love Ecuador’s beauty.  When an opportunity to send Ecuador roses and raise money for the poor occurred earlier this year, we grabbed the chance.

I wrote about the roses, made a special offer and sold over 5,000 roses that raised $2,000 for our Land of the Sun Foundation that helps Ecuador’s poor. The money was used to provide schooling for gifted indigenous children and to buy a  InFocus projector used in our free English classes for Ecuadorian children that the foundation provides.

So we offered Ecuador Christmas roses and sold over 9,000 raising $3,660 for LOTS!

This is a batch of 100 fresh Ecuador roses that Merri and I enjoyed earlier this year.

Dozens-of-roses

Premium Quality Roses

Though this is not the lowest price for roses you will see in the Mother’s Day season, these roses are special, not like anything offered in a store or even at most florists. These are premium roses with extra large heads that open fully.

Fresher Quality Roses

Most roses go from Ecuador to Miami by air and are stored in Miami then shipped by truck until they sit in a store. They can be a week or more old when you see them. The roses you receive from this offer are cut and stored overnight, driven by refrigerated truck to Quito airport and flown to Miami to a special refrigerated Fedex facility until, then flown to your Fedex destination for immediate delivery to your home or office. This means they last longer.

Here are some of the fresh Ecuador roses at our hotel Meson de las Flores.

dozens-roses

Environmentally Clean Roses

The roses your receive are certified by Veriflora. The VERIFLORA seal is a real, green program that regularly spot check farms for ecologically sound systems that include:

1- Water and ecological conservation: implementing water management systems to prevent depletion of fresh water supplies.

2- Product quality: implementing practices to ensure the quality of the product through the whole chain of delivery to the final consumer.

3- Advanced agricultural practices: integrating organic practices wherever possible. To only use approved green label certified pesticides. To allow no discharge of pesticides run off into the environment.

4- Waste management: recycling and composting as well as the proper disposal of agricultural chemicals.

By March of 2007 the co-op that sends your roses had certified 144 acres.

Certification means the growers have met or exceeded the requirements. There is no middle ground with Veriflora, no differing levels of certification. You either are ecologically sound and certified, or you aren’t.

That means you receive environmentally friendly roses.

Dining-room-roses

Here is a red and bi color combination of fresh Ecuador roses we had delivered to us in North Carolina.

Fair Trade Roses

In addition the Verflora seal requires the rose grower to be socially responsible adhering to recognized labor and community standards, specially pertaining to health and safety, work conditions, hiring practices, discrimination, harassment and fair pay.

The growers offer every single one of their workers:

-free doctor and medical treatment at the farm for workers
-day care facilities for infants
-free breakfast and lunch (and dinner when they work late)
-free sports and recreation facilities
-small business loans -when workers want to leave to set up their own small   holding farm
-workers fund -for financial help with school fees to buy a car, etc
-complete health and safety equipment provided free -helmets , gloves, masks, etc
-paid maternity leave with a guarantee of work when they want to return
-overtime paid over and above the legal requirements
-Christmas parties, summer holiday excursions, sports tournaments

-a safe and secure work environment with job satisfaction and potential for personal development

Experience the warmth of the people and beauty of Ecuador as you celebrate the new year…the freshest…best and best smelling roses…as you help the environment and the poor by having them delivered into your and your loved one’s homes.

Subscribe to two years of Ecuador Living and receive 50 roses FREE.  Save $168.

Ecuador Rose Thanks

Roses are the flower of love as is Valentine’s Day is the day of love. We have a lot of love and thanks to send you from Ecuador today because of Ecuador roses.

Since Christmas we have offered Ecuador roses…first for that holiday… then the New Year and then Valentine’s Day.  We do this as a service… charge $19 more than the roses cost and donate this difference to our foundation that helps Ecuador’s poor.  Plus Merri and I chip per order to top off the deal.

In all you have purchased over 12,000 roses since Christmas which raised $4,800 to help the poor so today… the day we celebrate love, I would like to share how your care in ordering Ecuador roses has helped the poor.

We selected the village of Topo as recipient of the donations. We asked what do you need.   “Never enough fruit”, one person said.  “The school is in trouble,” stated someone else.  And “the old ones are cold and sad” said another.

So we collected a team of friends and headed up to inspect.. to see what we could do.

First, we bought out the local fruit store.  They have deliveries direct from the coast.  Here are Franklin and Alberto loading up.

ecuador-roses

We packed the truck and were glad we did. The people acted like we brought gold instead of bananas, apples, melons, plums, oranges.

ecuador-roses

Upon arriving  we first inspected the school.

ecuador-roses

Their equipment…

ecuador-roses

They need two things first.  More water containers and pipes.

ecuador-roses

The school does not have water and no pipes to take it to the lavatories.

ecuador-roses

They have to keep water in 50 gallon drums to flush the toilets.

Plus they have two entire rooms available for a kitchen and dining hall… but no water there.  So they use this equipment instead and feed the children outside.

ecuador-roses

You have donated enough to fix this all this!  The residents there said if we’ll provide the supplies… they will work together each Saturday to make this happen.

We are waiting for their list of supplies needed.  First pipes… more water catchment tanks and concrete blocks to enhance the walls around the school.

So this will help stop… long lines outside…

ecuador-roses

a bowl of rice…

ecuador-roses and some cheese.

ecuador-roses

Your donations through the purchase of Ecuador roses makes it possible for a better kitchen… a dining hall… and more fruit.

Plus the old ones…who were cold, were there as well.

ecuador-roses

We brought alpaca ponchos for all of them.  This small village has 28 very old women and 4 very very old men. The reaction from these wonderful, sweet and simple people was one that brings tears again to my eyes.  All of us guys were trying to act like we were not crying… but we were.

I’ll try to share as best I can with my tiny Sony camera how these people feel about what you did for them, as they donned their warm ponchos.

ecuador-roses

I cannot…

ecuador-roses

really describe it…

ecuador-roses

my photography is inadequate…

ecuador-roses

but  I promise…

ecuador-roses

the flowers in your home yesterday today brought more joy than you can imagine.

ecuador-roses

Thank you. Thank you.  Thank you.

Merri and I hope you are blessed with as much love on this day of love as we felt that day. And just think this money just keeps on improving, helping and giving.

These fixer uppers have huge lots, in the center of the village. They may be real sleepers.  We’ll see as we’ll inspect them on our Imbaburra real estate tour that begins tomorrow.

You can gain Cotacachi real estate information and Ecuador real estate contacts as an Ecuador Living subscriber. See details here.

Speaking of sleepers, this excerpt from today’s password protected multi currency course shows why European shares may be sleepers as well.

Here is the excerpt:

This multi currency update has three portions. First we see anther inflation indicator. Second we update our search for value. Third we end with some answers to questions from lesson one of our new updated primer course.

Recent inflationary events include the support by US authorities of Bank of America with a guarantee of liquidity and capital. B of A faces losses of up to $118 billion dollars.

The government gets shares in the bank worth $20 billion.  In other words the government stumps up about $88 billion (that it does not have).  This is inflation.

Citibank in trouble as well.

Jyske Global Asset Management wrote in its last market update three days ago:

Fears of further credit losses and rumours of another large US bank being nationalized dragged the international stock market down this week. The New Year rally last week is already forgotten, and investors are anticipating new lows in 2009.

Citigroup Inc. posted an $8.29 billion loss, only a few days after the announcement of their plans to sell the control of Smith Barney to rival Morgan Stanley.

Sales at U.S. retailers dropped in December for the sixth consecutive month (first time since 1992) and the most in three years.

S&P cut Greece’s long-term credit rating to A- with a stable outlook, due to its public and private debt and the budget deficit. The downgrade makes Greece the lowest rated country in the Euro zone.

Market participators are now speculating whether a Euro exit may become an option for some members of the Euro-bloc, analysts view Greece as the weakest economy within the Euro zone.

The European Central Bank (ECB) Thursday cut the Euro zone interest rate to the lowest level in more than 3 years.

As expected the main policy rate was cut by a half percentage point to 2%. The Danish Central bank followed the ECB with an even bigger cut of 75 basis pts to 3%.

#1: Falling interest rates are indicators for increased activity in share markets.

#2: Combine this with the fact that stock funds saw huge redemptions in 2008.

#3: Add in the next fact that international equity funds were among the most redeemed losing about a fourth of their total assets in 2008.

U.S. stock funds only had redemptions of about 10% of their assets.  Bond funds on the other hand experienced positive flows in 2008.

This increases my enthusiasm for international shares…especially in Europe.

Low interest rates plus markets that are oversold plus inflation all bode well for shares.

There are four ways to fight inflation; real estate, your own business, commodities and equities.   So depressed international equities in an atmosphere of low interest rates spells opportunity.

These three factors are the elements that create value because value investors are generally bucking the trend.

This is why last year my biggest equity position was in the Jyske Invest European Equity fund.  I picked a fund that was invested mostly in markets that Michael Keppler of Keppler Asset Mangement viewed as having the best value.

Keppler has changed some of his rankings this month so let’s review the change and see if my position still makes sense.

Let’s look at the geographical breakdown of the Jyske Invest European Equities fund I hold now.

This fund has departed quite a lot from the synchronicity it enjoyed with Keppler’s top values when I invested two years ago.  The fund’s portfolio is spread here now:

UK  24%
Germany 16%
Switzerland 13%
France 12%
Spain 7%
Netherlands 4.5%
Sweden 4%
Spain 4%
Finland 3%
Italy      2%
Greece 2%
Denmark 1.5%
Norway 1.5%
Luxembourg .5%
Ireland  0.5%
Austria 0.5%

The fund’s managers report says:

There are prospects of uncertainty in 2009. The world economy is struggling
and the optimism has turned into pessimism. Central banks and  governments have been busy introducing rescue packages and  interest-rate cuts. The help has been offered, but is it sufficient and when will it begin to show an effect? We
expect that 2009 will bring wide swings in the equity market. A lasting upturn is not likely to be just around  the corner. We are still looking at a longer period characterised by uncertainty before the optimists outnumber the pessimists.

For the fund we prefer cheap shares with prospects of earnings growth. That type of shares has historically yielded the best returns.

Though this fund no longer has the same value synchronicity with Keppler that it previously had, I’ll continue to hold this as I plan to increase my equity position. I can balance this fund’s holdings to better match Keppler’s rankings by adding Hong Kong, Singapore, Italian and other funds or ETFs.

You can learn more about Keppler’s market updates and the ETFs we use in our multi currency portfolio as a multi currency susbcriber.

Until next update, good global investing

Ecuador Health Tips

Ecuador health tips can help you in business and vice versa. I’ll explain how in a moment. Then we’ll look at new Ecuador real estate like this.

cotacachi property

Merri and I are back in Cotacachi after one of those trips from you know where.

Here is something not to do. Do not have a non flyer check in bags for you!  This is something we picked up listening as we stood round the conveyor belt waiting for our bags to arrive in Quito.

We flew down on the Delta Atlanta Quito flight.  The crew was really switched on. The Captain was great… informative…came out and talked to us.  We were ready to depart slightly ahead of time…except.    A group of Medical missionaries were coming down on the same Delta flight.  They realized that there was an embargo on all early January flights to Ecuador...limit two bags per person.  They had some extra stuff to bring.

So they booked four extra people (who never intended to fly).  Those  people arrived with their two bags each…checked in…and left.

This was not a good idea.

We were ready to go ahead of time, when the system discovered those four were not on board.  Their bags had to be removed.   Of course these people had checked in early so…all the bags had to be removed from the plane to find the bags.  I suspect that there was some extra security precautions taken as well…due to the unusual nature of this.

Two hours later…we finally headed out…the runway now crowded… jets heading to Europe all  lined up ahead.

This cost another extra hour on the tarmac which put us into Quito much later than the norm…a time when the clouds come into Quito. We circled…and circled until finally we had to fly to Guayaquil for more fuel.

Then we flew back to Quito… more circling until our flight, scheduled to arrive at 9:30 pm, landed at 4:30 am the next morning.  I heard the medical missionaries talking about what they had done as we waited for our bags.

Merri, Mahananda and I had been traveling 17 hours and had two more hours to go, so I was too tired to say anything.   I believe it is a good thing that the other passengers did not hear this or those medical missionaries, who delayed the other hundred plus of us, may have needed medical treatment themselves.

Okay steam blown…I actually am getting to a point.

We arrived in Cotacachi at 6:30 am with little sleep and immediately went to work…and worked just fine all day, through till about 10 pm that night.  Though I did send my Ecuador Living subscribers a message without a link in my altered  state that I call sleep typing.

There is always so much to do when we first return. The staff are great but each person needs time with us.

Next morning we felt great and were out for our morning walk a little late..but still before most people were up.

All this took place on the same month that our first Social Security payments will arrive in our account…and we love each day of this.

In December we had a friend, an MD, do a complete set of tests.  She was pleased at the good state of our health.  Our only one problem was excessive cortisol levels in the morning…a sign of our workaholism….too much stress.

I did not really need the tests to know that I felt great and energetic…enthused and excited as each day begins.

Our doctor wanted to know what we do and there are a few things… that we have learned from healers around the world especially in Ecuador.

So I declare this Ecuador health tip week.  Each day we’ll share one really important health tip that Ecuador shamans have shared with us.

Here is Ecuador health tip #1: Don’t straddle the fence.

This most important fact has been stressed to us so many times that to me this is the most important factor for good health.  Be true to yourself!  Don’t act nice when you don’t feel that way.  Don’t eat alfalfa when you really want a Big Mac.  Let me put it another way…don’t be a phony.  Don’t live your life bound by phony rules.

Do what you love.

One Taita Yatchak explained this important tip in this way when he said.  “In the past life was simple. Every place had a black and a white zone.  If a person felt like being physical, they dressed in black and visited the black zones.  If they felt like being spiritual, they dressed in white and visited the white zones.  There was no concept that black or white were bad or good. Each was considered a valid manifestation of life.  The key was to be what you were and to associate with others of the same ilk.  Blacks did not visit with Whites and vice versa.”

Today most of us are pulled in so many directions by so many forces.  Money worries struggle with other concerns. Patriotism conflicts with religion.  We are often herded into jobs or businesses we really do not like, but we keep them and put on a brave face for the cash…medical insurance or mortgage…or kids tuition…or… I could go on and on.

These inner conflicts kill energy, stamina strength and eventually rob us of good health.

This is why we write so often…do what you love….then figure out how to make a living in the process.  It is better to be a little poor and happy…then rich and sick.  Of course the irony of life is that if you do what you love you probably won’t be poor!

Remembering this most import health tip is one reason we decided to get started for the new year with our new internet course.  We made a special offer last week to provide you with our three courses on how to do business…at a $500 discount.

The two existing courses are:

International Business Made EZ which normally sells for $199.

Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher which sells at $249.

Tens of thousands have used these courses.

I am creating a new course entitled “Tangled Webs We Weave – How to Have Your Own Internet Business” that will be offered at $299 and offered the three courses…total value $748 for $247…a  $500 savings…right now…today.

This special offer provides this brand new, as yet unwritten course, at $52 off the courses $299 price…plus…the two courses above.

That is a $500 savings.  See the details here.

This offer is limited for just this ONE time. This is January FIVE.  In SEVEN DAYS…January ELEVEN… this offer ends.

To give you a better feel of this new course…you can see the introduction here.

At the top of the Ecuador health tips is do something you love every day!    Nothing is as important to your health.

Tomorrow’s Ecuador health tip will deal with nutrition.

Until then, good health to you.

Gary

One thing Merri and I love to do every day is walk around Cotacachi. There is so much going on and up here…such a nice change from the draw back we see in the USA.

Our walks are useful as well as enjoyable.  We spot the best properties the minute they go up for sale…and jump on them for our readers and real estate tours. For example this was a field where we used to take Ma for a walk.  Something is going on and this urbanization is right next to the nice homes (shown at the top of this message) that are being built in this area.

We are checking this out now. This is one of the best areas for growth in the village right behind the main shopping street shown below.

Join us for our upcoming international investing and business course or our import export course. Here is what one of our previous delegates wrote:

Hello Gary.

It is with great warmth that I wish you and Merri a Happy New Year!  It sounds as though your holidays were filled with family and fun.  Thank you for sharing your experiences.

I want to take this opportunity to tell you how thankful I am to you and Merri for all that you do.  The first course I took (import/export) was so exciting and ignited an excitement in me that I had not felt in ages.  I have been back several times since last February and have been doing some shows and just selling things to friends and friends of friends.  I am getting more serious in my business now and am planning to work on several specific home décor items in the next couple of months.  Hopefully we will get the chance to visit at El Meson if you are there when I visit.

I went to Ecuador, originally, on a whim and have just fallen in love with the country and its beautiful people.  I thank you and Merri for your charitable work and for the love, support, and encouragement that you show your subscribers and course attendees.

I will soon be planning another trip and would like to focus specifically on home décor, such as bowls, candlesticks, pillows, linens, etc.

Again, MANY THANKS for opening my eyes to so many new opportunities and ways to help others while benefitting through business ideas.

I wish you and Merri all the best in 2009.

Best Regards,

We invite you to join us in Cotacachi where the real estate and import export opportunities are great (but entirely different) as well.

New Year Economic Lesson

2008 provided many economic lessons that we can use in the new year.

I am one of the luckiest guys in the world because several of the most important new year economic lessons this year were provided by my children.  This allows me to be a bragging dad and actually share a worthwhile point in the process.

The first lesson, which I share repeatedly in my various websites is “there is always something we do not know.”   This was just proven when i planned this Christmas  to be a quiet one…a leisurely drive to Florida…a wonderful day with our daughter, son-in-law and grandson.

Little did Dad (aka me) know that the children were plotting…traveling from Florida and England to give me a surprise…showing up a couples day’s early so we could cut a Christmas tree on the farm…decorate and essentially Deck the Halls and enjoy Christmas on the farm.

What a surprise… pr0ving the point that the dads are always the last to know. Let’s hope I sniff out the equity markets in 2009 better than I realized what the kids and Merri were plotting.

We had a great time together… cooking… eating… hiking… doing the farm work together and…

New-Year-Economic-Lesson

allowing our eldest grandson, Garren, to continue his love affair with our hound dog, Ma.

New-years-economic-lesson

It turns out that this huge deception of joy was thought up and organized by our youngest, Eleanor.   Here I am hiking with Ele in the woods.

New-Year-Economic-Lesson

While the children were with us, we had a great deal of time to talk and she surprised me by sharing two valuable New Year economic lessons.

The first lesson came when she was telling me about her latest efforts at getting some of her students auditions and roles in London West End shows.  Ele started as an entrepreneur early. She owns a performing arts school in London that teaches dancing,  drama and singing.  Here are some of her students in the production of Aladdin they are currently performing.

New-year-economic-lesson

Ele is just 27 years old and her  school is a franchised operation…one of about 600.  She is one of the youngest owners yet has one of the top ten busiest schools.

One reason for her success is the enormous energy and passion she puts into her business.  Another reason for  her success is she has a growing reputation for getting her students professional roles in the London theater.

She currently has eight of her students working in London’s West End.

Two are in the Sound of Music at the London Palladium on Argyll Street.

Two are in Rodger and Hammerstein’s Carousel at the Savoy on the Strand.

One is  in Disney’s  Lion King, at the Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street.

One is in Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

I was a bit surprised at this success and asked her the tricks.  She replied:

“This is very simple.  I give the children who have extra talent free lessons. I bring them to my home and work with them there.”

When I questioned the wisdom of giving away her services as being part of a good business model, she replied:

“This is not about the money, Dad. The thrill of hearing those kids when they call me and tell  they were selected is worth every minute I put into this. I love those calls so much,  I am happy to devote my time and effort.”

This is the secret. Do what you love and figure out how to make money in the process.

In Ele’s case, she has profited indirectly…but the profit is not the purpose. this is a matter of fulfillment and of the heart.

This has always been an important idea, but grows in importance now.  Our message about the upcoming 2011 disaster showed an economic distortion that is so grave it will force many of us to continue working… or  to work more then expected or… to start working for oneself when an existing job is eliminated.

This problem is so acute and the importance of having more people do what they love is so vital that we have decided to write a new course…on how to develop your own international internet business.

Before I begin this course, I want to make a special offer…that gives you this course free.

Please let me explain why.

Years ago, Merri and I  had 23,000 print readers…micro sized in publishing terms….but very, very profitable for us.  We made millions from this business.

Merri and I believe that in this rapidly changing world…small is beautiful.

When money stopped mattering as much, our children were grown, finished with university, we sold our print business and took a year off…lived with a shaman high in the Andes.

Then we morphed into an internet only business.  Our readership began small, with  about 1,600 email readers.  We expected to slow down and smell the roses more.  We even bought an isolated hacienda high in the Andes called Rosaspamba (Place of roses).

As crazy as it seems, we could actually run a business with this small readership and make a profit because our readers are so wonderfully responsive.

Why?  How?

This is what the new course I am creating will teach you….how to have a small, safe, profitable global internet business by creating wonderfully response, fun to be with, like-minded customers.

How small?

Today, our business remains micro sized but we have grown from 1,600 readers to four  main subscription lists consisting of 15,947 subscribers.

How safe?

The downturn of 2008 has not slowed us a bit.   In fact we  are growing faster, in number of subscribers and income, than ever.   At a time that  many say is economically depressed, our sales are way up and growing almost every month.

How profitable?

Our list and sales are still tiny compared to many of our competitors and associates who make millions a month.   We make tens of thousands.

Yet we have been able to add this extra income with a surprisingly small amount of added overheads.  This number works perfectly for Merri and me…a fun sized readership. In our opinion, this should be the key in business… satisfaction… fulfillment and fun…through service along with the profit.

Yet, profits do matter. Almost every month our internet sales have been rising. In 2008 they rose nearly every month created a new records in sales for us.

These internet sales alone have given us the freedom to live in an isolated Blue Ridge farm during summers and in Ecuador the rest of the year…yet still earn tens of thousands of extra dollars a month.

Now you can learn everything I do to create this extra income and have fun and fulfillment in a micro publishing business.

The syllabus of this course will help you learn how to find something that is fun, fulfilling and profitable for you to do.

Our growing income is one reason I have decided to create this course.

Second, the economic downturn of 2008 means that more of my readers will need a new way to earn in the years ahead.

Yet the third reason was the straw that made me decide to do this….my webmaster who helped me start this site has agreed to co-write the course with me.  Merri and I will explain what Merri and I do in the business.  The writing…the marketing…the product planning and such.   Our webmaster will outline the technical part. How to chose a server…set up a shopping cart…create pay per click systems…send thousands of emails a day.

Let me be frank. I  have an inside track. My webmaster is part of my family…my son-in-law.

The relationship is reversed though. He was my webmaster first… son-in-law second. Our daughter joined us in a visit to London where during the trip, I had a short business meeting with him.   Our daughter stopped in to say “Hi.”

Kablammmm…love at first site.

So, in a way, here is the result of our business…our grand daughters, Sequoia and Teeka!

new-year-economic-lesson

Talk about fringe benefits!

Though we like to remain small, this does not mean all of our students will.  Our webmaster started with us first but since has grown to be the chief internet consultant for several much larger internet marketing companies that send over a billion emails a year!

I’ll be explaining the course in detail in the new year…what I will share and what my webmaster will share as well…how the course will help you.  Right now I honestly do not know everything what will be in the course.

Previous courses have always evolved as they are written because of the questions that are asked as the lessons are sent.

This is why I want to offer this emailed course (which has not yet be written) to you free.

Here is a  special New Year’s offer.

I currently provide two internet courses that can help you have your own small global business.

These two courses are:

International Business Made EZ which normally sells for $199.

Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher which sells at $249.

Tens of thousands have used these courses.

This new course entitled “Tangled Webs We Weave – How to Have Your Own Internet Business” will be offered later at$299.

Three courses…total value $748.

Save $500..right now…today.

If you accept this special offer and enroll in this brand new, as yet unwritten course, I will knock $52 off the courses $299 price…you pay just $247…plus…

Since the two courses above also add value to the new internet course, I’ll send both these completed courses (many thousands have enjoyed these courses) to you now…free.

That is a $448 savings.  Along with the $52 reduction in the Tangled Web price you save $500.

No Risk.

There is even more.  You can study the two courses I will email you right away free…plus the introduction and first three lessons of Tangled Webs (when they are written) on a no risk trial basis.

If at any time during this trial period your are not satisfied…simply let me know and I’ll give you a full refund of $247.

What will be in the course?

I don’t know. We have an outline…but as mentioned…I know that the syllabus will change.

What I do know is that the course will  be good…honest… sharing everything we have learned together building our internet business over the past ten years.  This is our 41st year of doing international business so the syllabus will be rich with real experience.

You can accept this special offer and save $500 here…now.

Ecuador Beach Condo Surprise

Here is an Ecuador beach condo development where a number of single women expats call home.

One of the best ways to beat inflation is to live in low costs areas like the coast around Bahia Ecuador.

Here’s an update on this area beginning south of Bahia starting at San Clemente.

Ecuador Beach-Apartment

Beach at San Clemente.

The map below shows why San Clemente (marked with A), which is just a bit south of Bahia, was the first place on the coast where I bought Ecuador beach real estate.

ecuador map

San Clemente is a small village almost equidistant to the two airport access points on Ecuador’s coast, Manta and Bahia, plus it is on the coastal highway just before it veers inland behind a strip of low lying hills.

Bahia Hotel

These hills run along the coast from San Clemente to Bahia and further north separating the highway from the beach, discouraging over development and encouraging quiet hidden beach opportunities.

In addition San Clemente is almost equidistant to Quito and Guayaquil, the two largest population centers, and is accessed by major roads also shown on this map.  This creates holiday opportunity for the big city folk.

San Clemente is itself a tiny… dusty village so the attraction here is peace and quiet.  This is what Merri and I love.

However, those who want to live in a lively town will do better living just a bit further north in or closer to Bahia.

san-clemente-manabi

Our Ecuador beach penthouse is at Vistazul. This community is nicely protected by those hills.

visatzul

Vistazul is right on the beach and protected by these low lying Manabi hills behind.

Here is the view from our penthouse so you can see…

coastal view

why we love it there.

Now Vistazul is about to get even better.

The developer of this project, Kjetil Haugan, recently sent me this note.

Gary,   This email is to inform you that we will close the hotel from next week on and until late June for renovation.   We will change the location of the kitchen, increase the capacity of the restaurant, redo the swimming pool (partly infinity pool), put A/C in all rooms, put in new beds and mosquito nets, fix all the sliding doors/windows, put in concrete walls around the hotel, fix the gardens, make more family suites, paint the hotel and change and redo everything from the dining tables, to the outdoor furniture.  Most of this will be done during these 6 to 7 weeks but the rooms will be done throughout the year.

We will also start to sell club memberships to local people with a point system plus offer this to the ex pats living in Cuenca.

We are adding new administrators at the hotel; Edwin and his Canadian wife, Cris. They used to run our yacht operation in the Galapagos. She will also help out at Vistazul being the contact person for the residents and helping out with decoration, purchase of furniture and rental management.

So hopefully you will have time to come down to San Clemente later this year to discover the new Palmazul!

Vistazul is also doing well right now. The electricity work, water plant and gardening should all be ready by the end of May. Then I will help the residents start to form the HOA. I have also contracted all the doors/windows so the remaining units will be completed within 4 to 6 months depending on the workers.

I had a lot of interest in the one level units and we continue to offer finance. Regards, Kjetil

This is an exciting evolution for the small community and remains a great bargain… the $79,000 price includes club membership which includes use of all the improved facilities.

Back in 2007, my friend, Kjetil Haugan, sent me a note that he was building this hotel and would have his the new year celebration there.

When I saw the construction pictures… I wondered.  A lot of work seemed undone.

This was the hotel in November 2007.

and the pool at the hotel.

Yet Kjetil did have the hotel open for the 2008 New Year celebration.

When we visited in early January 2008,  the hotel looked like this.

ecuador-beach-condos

Kjetil then told me that the hotel was also designed as the clubhouse for 60 + condos he would build on this land behind the hotel.

ecuador-beach-condos

I knew the land..  I knew Kjetil.  I was impressed and bought the first five condos myself.  Kjetil said that he would have the first units finished by the end of the year.

True to his word, Kjetil kept to his timing and despite the recession of 2008 has completed and sold out this development.

Ecuador beach real estate is still inexpensive but prices have been rising. Those condos began at $79,000 but prices have risen over the last year to:

I personally have a unit here  in the Vistazul complex so this is my front yard.

Here are the first condos which originally went on sale at $79,000.

Kjetil Haugan, a Norwegian who moved to Ecuador after being the administrator of Atlanta’s Olympic Village, became a prominent businessman, owning the largest Spanish school in the country along with several Galapagos cruise ships.

Kjetil and his wife Jessica built Palmazul Hotel which is also the clubhouse for these condos.

The owners of the condos  enjoy Palmazul as their community center…all the hotel facilities are available to home owners.  This provides living on the beach with tennis court, pool, beach, fine dining, exercise room and all.

Until next message, good Ecuador living!

I always recommend that you look and then rent before you buy.

Multi Currency Trust

Multi currency trust is really important now. A huge multi currency stock market and property correction could be just ahead.

This correction can bring unprecedented value opportunity. But how do we know who to trust?

If our multi currency investments are in what we know and with those we trust…our investing is always one step ahead.

For example, below you will see a breakdown of my total multi currency position and why I have made money this last year when so many have lost.

One important point to note is that the largest increase in my multi currency portfolio is in Ecuador real estate. This is because I am involved in Ecuador every day and have a feel for what is going on. Plus I know people in Ecuador that I trust.

Take for example the Vitazul Ecuador beach condos built by Kjetil Haugan.

One reason I made an investment there is because I have worked with Kjetil for more than a decade and I trust him. I first met Kjetil when he had just moved to Ecuador and was beginning to develop business there. Now, just over a decade later he has one of the largest Spanish schools in Ecuador, one of the largest travel agencies in Ecuador, two boats that tour the Galapagos, a hotel and he is building 63 condos. Here is Kjetil at the condo construction.

multi-currency-condo-builder

Over the decade Kjetil has surprised me with what he gets done again and again. So when he contacted me last November and told me about the condos and the clubhouse-hotel he was building, I immediately became interested.

Last November when he contacted me the condo clubhouse looked like this.

multi-currency-condo-hotel

and the clubhouse swimming pool was…

multi-currency-condo-beach-pool

Yet he told me that he would be operational for the new year.

He was.

I drove down from our home in the Andes shortly (January 20 to be exact) after and was the first condo investor because of trust AND WHAT I KNOW ABOUT ECUADOR. This is on the record. See what I wrote in January 2008 about this project at Ecuador Beaches.

Here is the club house now…less than a year later.

multi-currency-condo-clubhouse

and the pool.

multi-currency-condo-pool

When I arrived nine months ago, the land where the condos were to be built looked like this.

multi-currency-condo-site

…just nine months ago. Here it is now.

multi-currency-condo-construction

In nine months…in Ecuador…on the coast…amazing!

Yet I was able to invest at the beginning before inflation started to really bite. Investing in what you know and in those you trust pays.

Prices have risen on these condos, but still offer an incredible value, plus until October 1, Kjetil is offering the original price (a $10,000 savings) to Ecuador Living subscribers.

For details on the units below contact Thor Anderson at thor@sanclementeecuador.com

Before you invest anywhere, however, let me please exclaim loudly…proceed with care.

We may be seeing a systemic cleansing similar to the 20s. Even if we are not, this is a time when investors can do everything, that in the past, was right and still lose. This is one reason why I like investing in real estate (US and Ecuador) now. I know and trust real estate. Real estate is a multi currency inflation hedge. Real estate is a hedge aganst a falling US dollar. Government bail outs create inflation. Real estate is an inflation hedge.

You can see the increase of real estate in the breakdown of my own portfolio this year

Many indicators suggest that this is a time when most investors believe the market will be down, but it actually will rise…perhaps a lot. So looking for value in equities and real estate make sense now.

Invest now? Does this sound crazy? Probably no crazier than in August 2007 when everything looked so fantastic and I warned readers to reduce debt and I unloaded most of my equities, moving into cash, Ecuador real estate and bonds instead.

As you can imagine I am pretty happy about this right now. I am reviewing my exact portfolio with my multi currency course subscribers at this time. Here is a portion of what they are reviewing, the breakdown of my personal portfolio a year ago and where it is right now. The percentages are rounded.

October 2007 Total Cash 9.7%

October 2008 Cash 10%

October 2008 Foreclosure Cash 3%

October 2008 Total Cash 13%

October 2007 Equities 6%

October 2007 Emerging Equities 1.5%

October 2008 Equities 5%

October 2008 Emerging Equities 1%

October 2008 Total Equities 6%

October 2007 Bonds 31.7%

October 2007 Emerging Bonds 8.5%

October 2008 Bonds 24%

October 2008 Emerging Bonds 10%

October 2008 Total Bonds 34%

October 2007 US Farmland 21%

October 2008 US Farmland 31%

October 2007 US Commercial Property 19%

October 2008 US Commercial Property 6%

October 2007 Ecuador Property 3%

October 2008 Ecuador Property 10%

First, let me clarify that this portfolio is not totally accurate. All the property is shown at cost. Much of this was purchased as long as a decade ago and could be sold for much more than shown. Both US and Ecuador property.

Second, even without trying to estimate a real estate value the portfolio rose…just a bit…about 5%. That is less then half the performance in 2007, but for this last year I am pleased. Not losing in 2008 is good! In addition to maintaining the portfolio’s capital, I feel especially well positioned to capitalize on current events. My cash position has grown and and many of the existing bonds mature this next year. This gives me plenty of liquidity to pick up bargains created by the market correction.

Third, I did little buying or selling of equities this year. The reduction of equities in the portfolio is entirely due to drops in price of the equities held.

I mostly looked for bargains in real estate…mainly in Ecuador and picked up several.

The same is true for bonds. The reduction in bonds in the portfolio is due to
maturities and the increase in emerging markets is due to currency strengthening of the bonds held.

Last year I felt a bit like a spider sitting in its web watching the fly come closer.

Now I am ready to bite! I have committed 3% of my portfolio to buying US real estate foreclosures.

Plus I am watching equities. The time to buy may be near. You can learn why as a multi currency course subscriber

Until next message may everything you believe in be worthy of your trust.
