Triple Currency Profit

Three currency forces will increase your purchasing power… if you can let these strengths help.

In 2015 I wrote a report “Three Currency Patterns For 50% Profits or More”.   The report described three currency distortions that created huge profits in the 1980s and were building in a way that would create them again.

The long and short of the report was that the US dollar is deeply overvalued and would lose about 50% of its parity versus other major currencies.

The important thing to remember about spotting currency distortions is that you can know an imbalance exists.  You cannot know exactly when it will correct.

Nothing much happened in 2015.   Through 2015 and 2016 the greenback remained strong.  In fact, at the end of 2016, the dollar skyrocketed and peaked.

Finally the expected correction began.

bloomberg chart

Bloomberg dollar chart (1)

Due to the value correction in 2017, the falling dollar created some excellent, extra profits (about 20%)  in the Purposeful Investing Course Portfolio of 18 country ETFs that are among the top value markets of the world.

Here’s why more currency profits will come.

A recent Wall Street Journal article “Why International Investors Aren’t Buying U.S. Debt”(2)  shows that rising hedging costs are reducing demand from international investors for Treasurys.  Rising hedge prices mean that investors are beginning to see greenback weakness.

This is a sign of the beginning of the fall.

The article says (bolds are mine): The rise in Treasury yields should make U.S. debt more attractive to international investors still struggling with low returns at home—yet few are buying.  The rising costs of currency hedges means it often isn’t worth it.

Yields on 10-year U.S. government bonds have jumped to 2.9% from 2.1% a year ago, nearing levels last seen in early 2014. In Europe, a 10-year German bund yields 0.68%, while in Japan the same maturity returns 0.05%.  Yields move inversely to prices.

Last year, buying Treasurys and swapping the proceeds back into euros provided European investors with a higher return than buying German sovereign bonds. Now, hedging costs have increased so much that this trade is no longer profitable.

That could sap an important source of demand for U.S. Treasurys.  It’s also making it more expensive for foreign investors to buy U.S. corporate debt.

Rising hedging costs reduces demand for the US dollar.  Reduced demand causes a currency to fall.

Other fundamental forces are also pushing the dollar down.

Another of today’s Wall Street Journal articles “Why an Unpleasant Inflation Surprise Could Be Coming” (3)  shows another dollar pressure. (Bolds are mine).

The article says: There is a plausible, if unlikely, scenario in which inflation marks a new, dangerous trend.  Inflation is going to head up this year—on that there isn’t much debate.  The real debate is over whether it will be a nonevent or something more ominous.  Even if you think it unlikely, you need to give this scenario serious thought because trillions of dollars of investments are geared to inflation being dead.

Unemployment in the last year has sunk to a 17-year low, yet inflation continues to run below the Fed’s 2% target.  Abroad, it is the same story: in Germany and Japan unemployment is at multidecade lows but inflation remains stuck below 2%.

This disconnect is one reason Fed officials devoted much of their late January meeting to discussing what drives inflation. That is a bit like NASA debating what causes gravity: it is a bit unsettling that something so important can stump the experts.

Ironically, within days the missing inflation reared its head. Wage and price data firmed noticeably.  The “core” consumer-price index excluding food and energy rose 1.8% in January from a year earlier and should soon top 2% as favorable readings from a year ago drop out of the 12-month calculation.

Multiple forces are now at work that could, together, keep it going up. The most important is that unemployment at today’s low levels has over the postwar period typically coincided with rising price pressure.   Second, a big tax cut and a federal-spending boost are about to juice the economy and potentially push unemployment even lower.  Meanwhile, a falling dollar and rising oil prices are feeding through to other costs.  On Tuesday, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said “headwinds…have turned into tailwinds.”  He was talking about the economy, but it is equally true of price pressure.

These forces… rising wages… tax cuts… falling dollar… all support the already incredible value of the 18 good value markets that we invest in through country ETFs.

This is the report from my online broker that shows how my personal Portfolio is diversified at this time.

Here is the portfolio.

Here is the performance.

When we formed this portfolio and created the Purposeful Investing Course, the Pifolio went nowhere… in part because every investment was in currencies other than the US dollar.   The dollar was rising.  This made the investments LOOK weak in US dollar terms.

motif

Yet this was a really good value, low volatility portfolio.   Here is the value and volatility ranking according to Motif, the very low cost, online broker we use.

This portfolio has locked in forex profit potential, plus look and compare the value of the markets covered in these shares!

keppler

Our investments are currently valued at 1.58 times book value, versus 3.29 BV for US shares.

Are US shares really worth more than twice shares in England or Germany or Austria, or Australia, Canada, Brazil, China, etc?

Our shares have an average P/E ratio of 18.2 and pay an average 3.08% dividend yield.

US share have a higher 24.4 P/E ration and pay a much lower 1.86% percent dividend yield for US shares.

All these parts fit together.

Downwards pressure on the US dollar.

Much better value of many non dollar equity markets.

These facts mean that non dollar, good value shares could start reaping extra profits at any time.  We don’t know for sure when these forces will cause a landslide… but the correction could begin anytime.

There are no safety concerns over making a shift now.

The Only 3 Reasons to Invest

garyheadshot

The stock market has always been the best place of places to protect and increase wealth over the long haul.   Yet it’s also been the worst place to lose money, a lot of it, quickly.

There are only three reasons why we should invest.  We invest for income.  We invest to resell our investments for more than we had invested.  We invest to make our world a better place.

The goal of investing should be to stabilize our security, bring feelings of comfort and elimination of stress!

We should not invest for fun, excitement or to get rich quickly. We should not divest in a panic due to market corrections.

This is why my core stock portfolio consists of 19 shares and this position has hardly changed in three years.  During this time we have been steadily accumulating the same 19 shares and have traded only three times.

motif

This portfolio is built around a strategy that’s taught in my Purposeful Investing Course (Pi).  I call these shares my Pifolio.

This portfolio more or less matched the S&P 500 until May 2018.  Then a stronger US dollar made the portfolio look like it was falling behind.   This currency illusion creates a special opportunity we’ll view in a moment.

This portfolio above is based on stock price to value analysis built around 91 years of stock market data.

The value analysis is used to create a portfolio of MSCI Country Benchmark Index ETFs that cover  stock markets that are undervalued.  I have combined my 50 years of investing experience with the study of the mathematical market value analysis of Michael Keppler, CEO of Keppler Asset Management.

In my opinion, Keppler is one of the best market statisticians in the world.  Numerous very large fund managers use his analysis to manage over $2.5 billion of funds.  However because Keppler’s roots are in Germany (though he lives and operates from New York) and most of his funds registered for the European Union, Americans cannot normally access his data.

I was lucky to have crossed paths with Michael about 25 years ago, so I am one of the few Americans who receive this data and you will not find his information readily available in the US.

In a moment you’ll see how to remedy this fact.

The Pifolio analysis begins with Keppler’s research that continually monitors 46 stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  Then Keppler takes market’s history into account.

Fwd: keppler

Michael Kepler CEO Keppler Asset Management.

Michael’s analysis is rational, mathematical and does not cause worry about short term ups and downs.  Keppler’s strategy is to diversify into an equally weighted portfolio of the MSCI Indices of each good value (BUY) market.

This is an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value because little time, management and guesswork is required.  You are investing in a diversified portfolio of good value indices.

A BUY rating for an index does NOT imply that any one stock in that country is an attractive investment.  This eliminates the need for hours of research aimed at picking specific shares.  It is not appropriate or enough to instruct a stockbroker to simply select stocks in the BUY rated countries.  Investing in the index is like investing in all the shares in the index.  You save time because all you have to do is invest in the ETF to gain the profit potential of the entire market.

To achieve this goal of diversification the Pifolio consists of Country Index ETFs.

Country Index ETFs are similar to an index mutual fund but are shares normally traded on a major stock exchange that tracks an index of shares in a specific country.  ETFs do not try to beat the index they represent.  The management is passive and tries to emulate the performance of the index.

A country ETF provides diversification into a basket of equities in the country covered.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund as well so such ETFs provide diversification and cost efficiency.

Here is the Pifolio I personally held at the beginning of 2019.

70% is diversified into Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) developed markets: Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Norway, Singapore, Spain and the United Kingdom.

30% of the Pifolio is invested in Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) emerging markets: Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan.

iShares Country ETFs make it easy to invest in each of the MSCI indicies of the good value BUY markets.

For example, the iShares MSCI Australia (symbol EWA) is a Country Index ETF that tracks the investment results the Morgan Stanley Capital Index MSCI Australia Index which is composed mainly of large cap and small cap stocks traded primarily on the Australian Stock Exchange mainly of companies in consumer staples, financials and materials. This ETF is non-diversified outside of Australia.

iShares is owned by Black Rock, Inc. the world’s largest asset manager with over $4 trillion in assets under management.

There is an iShares country ETF for every market.

You also receive two special reports.

In the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffett explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said:  Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

I did well then, but always thought, “I should have invested more!”  Now those circumstances have come together and I am investing in them again.

The circumstances that created fortunes 30 years ago were an overvalued US market (compared to global markets) and an overvalued US dollar.  The two conditions are in place again!

30 years ago, the US dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern is growing and could create up to 50% extra profit if we start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I have created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but included links to 153 pages of  Good Value Stock Market research and Asset Allocation Analysis.

The report shows 20 good value investments and a really powerful tactic that shows the most effective and least expensive way to accumulate these bargains in large or even very small amounts (less than $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

This report sells for $29.95 but in this special offer, you receive the report, “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

Plus get the $39.95 report “The Silver Dip 2019” free.

With investors watching global stock markets bounce up and down, many missed two really important profit generating events over the last two years.  The price of silver dipped below $14 an ounce as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).   The second event is that the silver gold ratio hit 80, compared to a ratio of 230 only two years before.

In September 2015, I prepared a special report “Silver Dip 2015” about a silver speculation, leveraged with a British pound loan, that could increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The tactics described in that report generated 62.48% profit in just nine months.

I have updated this report and added how to use the Silver Dip Strategy with platinum.   The “Silver Dip 2019” report shares the latest in a series of long term lessons gained through 40 years of speculating and investing in precious metals.  I released the 2015 report, when the gold silver ratio slipped to 80.  The ratio has corrected and that profit has been taken and now a new precious metals dip has emerged.

I have prepared a new special report “Silver Dip 2019” about a leveraged speculation that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.

You also learn from the Value Investing Seminar, our premier course, that we have been conducting for over 30 years.  Tens of thousands of delegates have paid up to $999 to attend.  Now you can join the seminar online FREE in this special offer.

The sooner you hear what I have to say about current markets, the better you’ll be able to cash in on perhaps the best investing opportunity since 1982.

seminars

Tens of thousands have paid up to $999 to attend.

This year I celebrated my 51st anniversary of writing about global investing.  Our reports and seminars have helped readers have better lives, with less stress yet make fortunes during up and down markets for decades.  This information is invaluable to investors large and small because even small amounts can easily be invested in the good value shares we cover in our seminar.

Stock and currency markets are cyclical.  These cycles create extra profit for value investors who invest when everyone else has the markets wrong.  One special seminar session looks at how to spot value from cycles.  Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics.  Cycles create recurring profits.  Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 to 20 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns can create war.

The chart above shows the war – stock market cycle.  Military struggles (like the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the Cold War: WW III) super charge inventiveness that creates new forms of productivity…the steam engine, the internal combustion engine,  production line processes, jet engines, TV, farming techniques, plastics, telephone, computer and lastly during the Cold War, the internet.  The military technology shifts to domestic use.  A boom is created that leads to excess.  Excess leads to correction. Correction creates an economic downturn and again to war.

Details in the online seminar include:

* How to easily buy global currencies, shares and bonds.

* Trading down and the benefits of investing in real estate in Small Town USA.  We will share why this breakout value is special and why we have been recommending good value real estate in this area since 2009.

* What’s up with gold and silver?  One session looks at my current position on gold and silver and asset protection.  We review the state of the precious metal markets and potential problems ahead for US dollars.  Learn how low interest rates eliminate  opportunity costs of diversification in precious metals and foreign currencies.

* How to improve safety and increase profit with leverage and staying power.  The seminar reveals Warren Buffett’s value investing strategy from research published at Yale University’s website.  This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios). His big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

Use time not timing.

Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio, the better the odds of outstanding success.

A 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of out performance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Learn how much leverage to use.  Leverage is like medicine, the key is dose.  The best ratio is normally 1.6 to 1.  We’ll sum up the strategy; how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on the times and each individual’s circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

The online seminar also reveals  the results of a $80,000 share purchase cost test that found the least expensive way to invest in good value.  The keys to this portfolio are good value, low cost, minimal fuss and bother.  Plus a great savings of time.  Trading is minimal, usually not more than one or two shares are bought or sold in a year.  I wanted to find the very least expensive way to create and hold this portfolio so I performed this test.

I have good news about the cost of the seminar as well.   For almost three decades the seminar fee has been $799 for one or $999 for a couple. Tens of thousands paid this price, but online the seminar is $297.

In this special offer, you can get this online seminar FREE when you subscribe to our Personal investing Course.

More Than Portfolio Performance

Profit comes from more than just portfolio performance.

If we have good habits that take care of our health, spend less than we earn and look after our savings, we’ll probably end up with plenty to retire.  But life really is about more than just the money.

A mantra at this site is that the idea of retirement is not a good idea.

trout

Believe it or not, for me, this is work.  I love fishing so one of my micro businesses is to raise trout.

A recent Wall Street article “When good habits go against you” (1) says: Imagine spending a lifetime acquiring habits that offer the promise of a longer, happier and more fulfilling life. Then imagine that to have that fulfilling life, you suddenly must abandon all those habits.

Not easy, is it? But that’s what happens when people go from work to retirement, from saving money to spending it. Too often, the same personality traits that facilitate saving for retirement become impediments when it is time to spend that money.  The mental tricks we employ while working become mental mistakes when we move into the next phase of our lives.

Let’s take this thought one step further and ask “Why should we wait until age 65 or any arbitrary age to develop habits to have that longer, happier and more fulfilling life?”

The idea of retirement at age 65 is wrong.  This concept was a political trick used by Bismarck to win elections at a time when few people lived to be age 65.  The idea of working most of our lives just to have a happier more fulfilling life after age 65 is wrong as well.

We should all have a pinnacle career, where we do what we love and figure out how to profit financially from the activity as a byproduct.  Age should not be a barrier.  In fact this is an era where technology makes our experience worth more than the cost of getting it… the more years we have lived, the better we should be in our career.

When we have a pinnacle, we do not want to retire.  Fulfillment is more important than the money and when we are fulfilled we live longer as well.

This is why we created an investing course (the Purposeful investing Course or “Pi”) that allows us to protect our investments and increase our profits by diversifying in multi-currency good value stock markets without spending a lot of our time in the process.

We created the course and started our personal Pifolio in December 2015.   The US market is NOT a good value market and the US dollar contains a lot of risk, so all the markets we chose were non US markets.

Timing was poor in that there was a dip in global markets literally after we made the investment.  You can see the dip (the red X is our date of purchase) in the share performance of the Vanguard International Equity Index ETF which I use as the bellwether for measuring our portfolio performance.

motif

Performance chart of  The Vanguard International Equity Index Fund  at www.finance.yahoo.com (2)

This Vanguard ETF Vanguard International Equity Index Fund (Symbol VT) tracks stock markets all over the globe, with the exception of the United States.  As an index product, the fund targets stocks from this universe that constitute the largest 98 percent based on market cap.   This fund offers perhaps the easiest way for investors to make a low cost equity investment in both developed and emerging international economies.

This ETF has risen from $59.92 December 1st 2015 to $66.28 on April 30th, 2017.   This is a 10+% rise.

The Good Value Portfolio we created has risen over 14+% in the same period so it is strongly over performing the bellwether at this time.

This portfolio is really hopping in 2017 and is up over 10% in the first 5 months of this year.  Let’s hope it keeps that pace.

motif

The lesson we share here is not about the great performance but about how little time was required to gain such strong performance and added safety.

Frankly, if we compare the the bellwether ETF VT to  the Dow Jones Industrial Index (Red) or S&P 500 Index (Green) below, the profits from December 2015 till now have been higher in the USA.

Had one invested in either index over this period (Dec.  2015 to now) their performance would have been slightly better, due to the strength of the US dollar.

stock chart

Our good value portfolio is diversified into 18 good value equity market ETFs  denominated in 13 currencies.

This is the current breakdown of each ETF as a percent of the total Pifolio.

Developed Countries

Market Australia   Symbol EWA  Percent of portfolio 8.4%   –  Austria EWO  9.0% – France EWQ 8.3%  –  Germany EWG 9.3%

HK  EWH 8.2%  –  Italy EWI  6.7%  –  Japan EWJ 7.5% –  Norway NORW 7.5%  –  Spre EWS 7.9%  –  UK EWU 7.0%

Developing Countries

Brazil EWZ 3.9%  –  Chile ECH 3.1%  –  China FXI 2.7%  –  Colombia ICOL 3.1%  –   Malaysia EWM 1.7%  –  South Korea  EWY 2.8%

Taiwan EWT 2.9%

During this entire period there has only been one trade, when in 2017 I used dividends earned to add the Platinum ETF, PPLT which represents 4% of the portfolio.

To me, the greatest value of this type of investing is not the added safety nor the extra profit.  These are important features,  yes, but the extra time I have to devote to things I love-writing, buying and fixing real estate, raising fish, growing oranges, importing roses, gardening, is the really big profit.

I certainly enjoy life more and will hopefully live longer, plus I am pretty sure that the income these activities generate are greater than if the time was spent fiddling with my investments.  In fact, most studies about investing suggest that the fiddling reduces portfolio profits.

The big profits in Purposeful investing are improved health, added longevity, more fun and fulfillment.

Time, that’s the greatest asset of all!  Create your purposes so you invest it well.

Borrow Low – Invest High

A special value investing tactic makes high risk, high profit speculations safer and more profitable.

For example in 2015, a 10,000 pound loan (in British pounds at $1.52 per pound) was used to purchase 1,091 shares of the silver ETF SLV.  Those shares rose to be worth $20,421 by 2016, a 34.34% additional profit.

From July 2015 to July 2016, the price of the silver ETF  iShares Silver Trust (Symbol SLV) rose from $13.92 and ounce to $18.71.  You can see the rise in the finance.yahoo.com chart below.

yahoo

A 10,000 pound loan (the pound was $1.52 per pound) purchased 1,091 shares of the silver ETF SLV.   Those shares rose to be worth $20,421 by 2016,  a 34.34% additional profit.

The profit did not stop there!

From 2015 to 2016 the pound dropped from $1.52 dollars per pound to only $1.39 dollars.  The 10,000 pound loan that had worth $15,200 in 2015 only required $13,900 to pay it off in 2016.

yahoo pound chart

The falling pound had created an extra $1,300 profit.

Do the math:

Silver worth $20,421

Loan payoff  $13,900

Profit             $6,521

Cash Required  Zero

All this profit was made on the 10,000 pound loan.  No cash was required on the investor’s part.

The entire $6,521 was pure… extra profit.

Some investors borrowed less… others borrowed much more so their profits were even higher.

This example came from our Purposeful investing Course (Pi) which studies three main layers of value investing tactics in real time.

Tactic #1: Diversify equally in good value developed and emerging stock markets.
Tactic #2:  Use trending algorithms to increase, reduce or hold positions in these markets.
Tactic #3:  Add spice to a portfolio speculating in precious metals, when their price is under “ideal conditions”, using leveraged, low value currency loans.

An “ideal condition” is a rare distortion in an economic fundamental that history has shown “almost always” corrects itself.

The words “almost always” indicates that there is risk.  There is risk that a basic fundamental has changed and the distortion will not correct in any targeted period of time.   Or a new fundamental has shifted dynamics to such an extent that the distortion never corrects.  There is always risk.

Profit is the reward for taking that risk, but there is always a chance of loss which is why the third layer speculation is to be used like a spice… sparingly.

Pi looks for several ideal conditions in precious metals using the price of gold based on over 40 years of speculation in precious metals.

The first condition is gold’s price to inflation.   Gold is the anchor of the strategy but its ricing is perhaps the most speculative since a meaningful inflation rate is hard to define.

Gaining a true perspective on gold’s value is difficult because the price of gold was fixed for many years.  The gold price was fixed at $35 an ounce at the end of WWII and this fixing did not take into account the huge inflation this conflict created.   This also impacts any accuracy in understanding what the real the price of gold should have been at the end of the war.

Statistics can be misleading.  In the report Platinum Dip 2018 there is an analysis of inflation.

These factors distort the accuracy of the picture.  How much is gold really worth now?  What is its real value?  This is truly THE golden question.

At this time the magic number we sue for gold is $1,225 an ounce.  If gold’s price is much higher than $1,225, than the Silver Dip or Platinum Dip are not in an ideal condition.

When gold is priced ideally, then there are several ratios that can alert us to an ideal condition.

The first ratio is the gold to silver ratio.  When the gold silver ratio reaches 80 we consider speculation in silver to be ideal (if gold is ideally priced).

This value indicator is simple because the gold silver ratio is rarely as high as 80, only three times in 36 years as the chart below shows.

gold silver spread

Chart from www.goldprice.org/gold-silver-ratio.html#36_year_gold_price

The spread was over 80 when we issued the original Silver Dip in the 1980s.  30 years later ideal conditions coincided again. The chart above shows how the spread was shooting towards 80 when we issued the Silver Dip 2015 report.

The spread hit 80 in 2015 and again in March 2016, but we can see from the chart above that a drop in the spread was on its way. The trend was for a continued lowering of the spread as silver’s price rise was much stronger than gold’s throughout 2016.

This chart below from infomine.com shows the trend clearly.

silver

Another ratio we watch is the gold to platinum ratio.   When the price of gold rises above the price of platinum, platinum’s price is at an ideal condition.

Platinum is a good value when it sells for less than gold and gold is close to our below its fair price ($1,225).   As the chart below shows, platinum costs more than gold more often than not.  The fundamental reasons for platinum’s high price, including platinum’s supply scarcity support this.

The chart below from Kitco.com shows the gold-platinum ratio.  The ratio is the red line and right axis.  The price of gold is the yellow line, left axis.  The price of platinum is the blue line, left axis, from 1975 to May 13, 2016.

gold

http://www.kitco.com/commentaries/2016-06-27/Gold-to-Platinum-Ratio.html

Notice how each time the gold-platinum ratio (red) has spiked, 1975, 1982, 1985, 2002, 2009, shortly after the price of platinum (blue line) has skyrocketed shortly after.

The gold-platinum ratio was at an almost  historical low when this report was written and the “Silver Dip 2017” recommended a shift from speculating  in silver to speculating in platinum. The 2017 report recommended leveraging the platinum ETF “ETFS Physical Platinum Shares” (Symbol) PPLT.

The spice.  This type of speculating is not done on its own, but as an adjunct that enhances an existing equity portfolio.  The portfolio is used as collateral for a loan that is invested in the metal with an “ideal condition price”.

Let’s examine how a speculation in silver (based on a gold silver ratio’s ideal condition) increased the profits of a portfolio of good value developed and emerging market equity ETFs.

This study looks at the $100,000 invested in a portfolio we began tracking in our Pi course.  The portfolios were started September 2015 (591 days before this study or 17 months ago).  70% was invested in ten good value developed market ETFs and 30% in 10 good value emerging market ETFs.

This is a list of the shares in the Developed Market Portfolio.

This is a list of the shares in the Emerging Market Portfolio.

Screen Shot 2017-02-19 at 12.30.55 PM

The good value portfolio was up 4.64% (a gain of $3,248) since inception and the emerging market portfolio is up 6.72% (a gain of $2,016).

A portfolio of these shares with an original investment of $100,000 invested 70%-30% after 591 days (February 2017) was worth $105,267, a 5.26% gain.

In this study we examine the change in performance when an additional $10,000 was risked on the iShares Silver ETF (Symbol SLV) beginning March 2016 when the gold silver ratio broached 80.

Image from www.macrotrends.net/1441/gold-to-silver-ratio

The price of SLV was $14.01 in March 2016 and is currently $17.06.

Let’s examine profits under three different exit strategies.

Exit strategy #1:  No exit.  The $10,000 was worth $12,163 at the time of this study (February 2017).

Exit Strategy #2: Exit when Tradestops issued a Stop Loss signal November 2016 at a price of $16.07 per share.  The $10,000 was worth $11,457.

Exit Strategy #3: Exit when the Gold silver ratio dropped below 70 on January 2017.  The $10,000 was worth $11,365.

The overall portfolio performance was improved in each situation.

Exit strategy #1:  Profits increased from $5,267 to $7,430.  A 10% increase in the portfolio added a 41% increase in profit.

Exit Strategy #2: Profits increased from $5,267 to $6,724.  A 10% increase in the portfolio added a 27% increase in profit.

Exit Strategy #3: Profits increased from $5,267 to $6,632.  A 10% increase in the portfolio added a 26% increase in profit.

All of these additional profits were gained without a penny of extra investment.  All the profits came from loans that were invested in silver.

The other benefit beyond profit is safety from time.

When leveraging investments, time is most important.  Because leverage is secured by the entire portfolio rather than just the additional investment, the odds of a margin call are almost nil so the investor gets to determine how long the investment will have to mature.

Let’s take an example of the good value Pifolio above.

In this study the loan was $10,000.

The collateral is not the $10,000 investment in silver, but the entire portfolio which is now $115,267 ($105,267 plus the $10,000 in silver).

This means (if the rules of the lender requires a two to one loan ratio) that the portfolio would have to drop around 75% before there would be a margin call.  Such a loss is highly unlikely.

This margin has as much time as is needed to let fundamental forces work through the market.

Any profit gained comes without adding a penny to the portfolio.

The most important elements of making good investments are price and time.  There is always something about investments we won’t know, but the one thing we can trust is that investments purchased at the right price, and given time, have the highest odds that profits will flow.

Silver is falling.

slv

Chart from finance.yahoo.com/chart/SLV?

Recently the silver ETF iShares Silver Trust (symbol SLV)  was priced 18.62% below the highest close of $19.60 from last August.   The mathematical system we track created a stop loss price of $16.18, showing that this precious metal moved into selling territory.  Now the share price is in the $15 per ounce range.

We Use Math to Spot Value.

Whether one likes to trade or invest and hold, math based financial information works better than the spin, rumor and conjecture of the daily economic news.   Mathematical based investing can put us on a solid path to everlasting wealth that is not easily diverted by the daily drama that seems to be unfolding in the modern world.

For example, our Purposeful investing Course teaches three mathematically based routines that have been proven to out perform the market over time .

The first routine in the course is the quarterly examination by Keppler Asset Management of 43 equity markets and analysis of their value.  This makes it possible to create a base portfolio of Country ETFs based on basic value.  This passive approach to investing in ETFs is simply to invest in Country ETFs of good value equity markets.

For example, Keppler’s analysis in 2017 shows that the “Good Value Developed Market” Portfolio is twice the value of a US market index fund and a much better value than any of the other indices shown.  These are based on the cornerstones of value, price to book, price to earnings and dividend yield (except the European dividend yield).

The Good Value Developed Market Portfolio offers even better value than the Morgan Stanley Capital Index  Emerging Market Index.

History shows, that over the long run, math and value drive the price of markets.

Using math makes it simple, easy and inexpensive to diversify in the predictability of good value.

The second tool Pi provides is a way to actively monitor and shift the good value markets using trending and volatility algorithms.  These algorithms allow us to trade good value markets through downtrends and upticks to increase profits in a diversified even more.

These trending algorithms use the math that spotted the current condition of silver.

Use math to spot distortions that create ideal conditions for speculation.

Pi teaches the strategy of speculating in metals when speculative conditions are absolutely ideal.  The Silver Dip relies on a really simple theory… gold should rise about the same rate as other basic goods and the rise and fall of silver’s and platinum’s price should maintain a parity with gold.

Our math based study has created an ideal price for gold and though its trending up it has passed the good value level we use.  Gold is still okay, but not a bargain any more.  Value investors only seek bargains.

When “Silver Dip 2017” was written profits on silver had been taken.

Platinum conditions are ideal for 2018.

Since 2014 the price of platinum has fallen below the price of gold and at the beginning of this year reached a historical low.  The distorted gold platinum spread suggests that platinum is a very good value so we are updating our dip report, and it will be the “Platinum Dip 2018”.

The report explains how to speculate in platinum plus outlines the following:

  • How to use theDip strategy in platinum without adding a penny of cash if you already have investments.
  • How to invest as little as a thousand dollars in platinum if you do not have a current investment portfolio.
  • Why this is a speculation, not an investment and who should and should not speculate and how to limit losses and take profits.
  • Three reasons conditions are better for a Platinum Dip now.
  • Three different ways to invest and speculate in gold, silver or platinum in the US or abroad.
  • How to buy gold and silver or platinum with or without dollar leverage margin accounts.

The “Platinum Dip 2018” also contains four matrices that calculate profits and losses so investors can determine cut off positions in advance to protect profits and/or losses.  The report also looks at how to switch time horizons for greater safety.

The first way the Dip adds extra performance is with leverage.

The second way to enhance performance is to maintain the leverage in poor value currencies.   Choosing which currencies to borrow is almost as important as choosing which metal to invest in.  The examples in this report have shown loans made in British pounds.  Other times it has been better to borrow Japanese yen, Swiss francs, once Mexican pesos.

Currently the best currency to borrow is US dollars.

The Platinum Dip 2018 report reviews each currency and which is best to borrow now and what to watch for.  Sometimes it is best to borrow a second currency and pay off the initial loan in mid stream.

Rising interest rates make the US stock market highly dangerous in the short term. “The Platinum Dip 2017” shows how to create a safe, diversified good value stock portfolio and use it to generate much higher returns with a little controlled speculation in platinum.

Learn how to get platinum loans for as low as 1.58%.  See why to beware of  certain brokers and trading platforms, how to choose a good bank or broker and how platinum profits are taxed.

The report includes a complex comparison of gold and silver with other costs of living from 1942 to today to help determine the real value of gold, silver and platinum.

Finally, learn why and how to use advisers to manage profits from the gold and silver dips.

Current circumstances could cause the price of platinum to rise rapidly at any time.  Do not delay reading this report.

FREE Report From Our 46th Anniversary

Each May we celebrate the anniversary of a lifestyle change that led Merri and me to a lifelong global micro business.   To celebrate this anniversary I want to give you a free report that shares 7 lessons I have learned over the past 46 years on how to earn with a global lifestyle.

My global investing and business began 46 years ago May 2, 1968 in Asia and eventually led me to Europe, Florida, the Blue Ridge The Dominican Republic and Ecuador.

The goal of our websites is to help you prosper from the world’s increased pace of change so let me share over 46 years of ideas.   Our goal is to help you have the lifestyle you desire by looking at important facts that Merri and I have learned about earning via a micro internet business.

I arrived in Hong Kong in the night, the tropical air so soft it was a velvet mist.   Thick evening scents in the fragrant harbor and mellow insects purring in rhythm with the cacophony of the great city!  What a an exotic adventure.

Kai Tak was Hong Kong’s airport then and being American born and bred, I knew nothing about investing aboard.

That was my first airplane trip, first time out of Oregon. Portland to Vancouver, Tokyo to Hong Kong.  I melted in my heavy woolen blazer, was weary and afraid but excited too. An incredible global investing journey had begun… and continues to this day. sales teams… this one in Hong Kong led by John So Kwok Kee (far left)….-you can guess which one I am!.

I built teams from the north in Japan down through Thailand.

Starting a business, investigation or residence with a tourist visa is a pretty good idea. This is usually the easiest, most efficient, practical way to begin so you can be sure what you are doing and how you’ll develop a more permanent stay if you want one.  In many cases… such as mine… a permanent tourist system is simply the easiest and best.

Having a micro internet business is even easier since you can start small, live almost anywhere and still run your business.

I began my business in Hong Kong this way (small) and for years I also lived and worked in England on tourist visas before obtaining my permanent residence there.

Here is my reply:

“We have always spent less than six months a year in Ecuador as we do not want to become resident in most of the places we live.  We believe in the six point command posture. The idea is to separate  your residence from where you earn and where you invest.

Back to Hong Kong.  I began there selling US mutual funds.

When arriving there 45 years ago there is no way I could have known how exciting the next decades would be, how much information, facts, figures, ideas and insights on how to invest globally would be gained. Had I known the mistakes to be made I would probably have run!

Then I moved east again to England and Europe… trying many things.

Thankfully all the trials, tortures and errors were mitigated by much fun and an earnest endeavor to learn.

ecuador-global-investing

Here is a newspaper clipping of me  with a business partner in my London office on Artillery Row selling square inches of Graceland. This was before the Elvis estate really became big. This was not a very good idea I might add.

Later Merri and I imported used Rolls Royces and Bentleys from England to the US… a better idea…  but

ecuador-global-investing

in retrospect this is not a business I would ever do again.

One goal at this site has been to share basics of global investing.. micro internet business and living an international life learned over our 45 years of experience. Global investing and business have changed so much during this time and is changing even faster now.  I am continually forced to rearrange my thinking strategy and tactics at a faster pace.

This shift is one reason we began offering health courses at our North Carolina farm.  Here I am with our son, Jake, with one tactic we taught… a morning dip in a cold creek after exercise… yes, that is snow on the banks and no… this idea, not surprisingly, did not sell very well either.  However our natural health focus has grown a lot.

ecuador-global-investing

Our food as medicine courses taught by Merri in her teaching kitchen at the farm had better attendance!

ecuador-global-investing

For over 15 years we conducted courses in Ecuador.

Here I am in the meeting room at the Cotacachi museum next to Meson de las Flores on an Ecuador export tour.

ecuador-global-investing

This continual evolution has helped Merri and me, our readers and our income continually grow… through good times and bad.

The reason we have survived and progressed amidst never ending updates is because we recognize that the stuff that shifts and evolves is important, but the fundamentals remain immutable.  “Plus ce change plus ce la meme chose”… the more things change, the more they stay the same.

So though our business is totally online now… the basics and our mission statement are still the same… “provide interesting, useful information and contacts that help make people’s lives better as they prosper from change”.

Global investments and businesses are not a panacea, but expanded horizons are.  They help us see further into the future.

Life is a trip and we have an entire globe to enjoy the ride.  Expanding our horizons beyond our local borders can help our visions penetrate the mists of tomorrow so we can adjust to gain opportunity and avoid dangers ahead.

For example global studies of economic markets led me to write on my May 2, 2007 anniversary: “History suggests that this is a time when chances are increased for panic and sudden drops in investment markets. Investors who have proven themselves nervous short term thinkers are highly leveraged, in thin, over purchased markets that are easily sinkable boats treading the dangerous waters of May though October when tradition says the currents will most likely be treacherous and surrounded with lots of storms.”

Then our global view helped us see ahead and write at this site on October 26, 2008,  the week before the Dow dropped below 10,000, “I sent my Multi Currency subscribers a Triple Crunch warning… three signals of caution in equity markets that could cause a market crunch.”

Then in early 2009 we began recommending and investing in Florida rental real estate in smalltown USA.

Florida real estate looked really terrible in early 2009.  I learned this on my first trip abroad 45 years ago in 1968 that bad times create exceptional value.

Hong Kong was filled with political, military and economic tension in 1968.  Those who bought real estate then earned huge fortunes.

I can sum up my investment basic investing patterns and the advice I have shared in my newsletters and later my ezine in seven sentences.

#1: 1970s. Invest in real estate, gold, silver Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Hong Kong.

#2: 1980s. Invest in real estate, the Tigers, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and South Korea as well.

#3: 1990s. Invest in real estate South America (which led me to Ecuador).

#4: 2000s. Invest in real estate, China, India and emerging markets including Ecuador real estate.

#5: 2010s.  Invest in rental real estate.

#6:  Always embrace change.

#7: Have an international investment view. Never overextend. Don’t trade too much, just keep looking for and holding good value thematic purpose driven investments.

This philosophy has reaped millions for Merri and me. More important this approach has helped us follow our purpose and feel that we are doing more for the world than just making a buck.

The increased pace of change leaves all of us with a lot to do.

We feel healthier and more energetic than 46 years ago.  Maybe I am not wiser… but I am more experienced and seem in a better position than when I took that first trip to Hong Kong.  This is why we now recommend creating pinnacle careers.  Our most valuable asset is our natural health, energy and desire.  Next is our willingness to serve and third is the experience we have gained from decades of living and working.

Merri and I look forward to the next 45 years… and we look forward to sharing them with you!

Seven P Secrets of Self Publishing

When you write, you can work anywhere.

gary-scott-image

Here I am working poolside in the winter, at our Florida farm.

gary scott

Here I am with our hound Ma, working during the summer at our North Carolina farm.

Learn how to earn everywhere, while living anywhere you choose.  I have been able to earn by writing in Hong Kong, England, the Isle of Man, Dominican Republic and Ecuador to name a few of the place I have lived.  Everywhere I have been… too numerous to share here, I have been able to work.

All I need is my laptop.

That’s all you need too… a laptop to be free!

Before computers, a pencil and pad did the job.

Freedom is just one benefit you can gain from writing.

Another benefit is income.   Writing has brought me both our farms, free and clear… plus a lot more.

Another good example of earning potential is my friend Hugh Howey.   He was working for $10 an hour in a book store when he self published his novel Wool, typing in a storage room during his lunch breaks.

Soon he was earning over $100,000 a month on Amazon.com.  This helped secure a six-figure book deal from Simon & Schuster, and an option for film by Ridley Scott, director of Blade Runner and Alien.

That’s what he’s doing now.

Hugh Howey

Sometimes Hugh and I get together at my  farm and play chess (he beats me badly).

Writers like High are great inspirations.

A couple of years ago Hugh  left Florida, and moved to South Africa.  He had a sailing catamaran built for him and now can sail the world while he continues to write.

Hugh explained it like this: And that’s the miracle of working as a writer: I can do it from anywhere and everywhere. The past few years, I’ve done a lot of writing from airplanes and airports while on business trips abroad.  SAND was entirely written overseas while traveling through seven different countries; I think it’s a better story because of those inspirations.  In upcoming years, I may be writing near your home port.

Hugh’s a super star writer and his success could not happen to a more deserving and talented person.  He pours enormous energy into being worthy of his readership.  But you do not have to be a million dollar a year earner or a traveler to benefit from writing.

The good news is… you do not need a huge success to have a rich and fulfilled lifestyle.  Self Publishing can bring you a life that most people only dream of, as a journeyman writer, instead of a super star.

May I hastily add that the path to stardom begins as a journeyman… so the journeyman’s path brings success without stardom… but can also lead to stardom.

What most success stories like Hugh’s rarely explain is the many hours of writing that was devoted before their self published book sales soared.   Hugh, like most writers were journeymen first.  Stardom came later.

Here are sevens secrets that can help you become a journeyman writer.

The secrets are a writer’s armory of tools that allows almost anyone to create successful publications for income, freedom and fulfillment.

Take Merri’s and my publishing business as an example.

Merri and I are not writing stars.  We are journeymen who have for more than 40 years, year in and year out, earned solid income writing and self publishing dozens of publications about multiple subjects.

Some years that income has been more than solid… over a million dollars.  Yet in terms of stardom, we are hardly known.

In a moment you’ll see why that’s fine for us and probably will be for you too.

First some history.

Merri became involved in self publishing over 40 years ago… first helping a veterinarian publish a book on a very specific market… animal acupuncture. Then she showed a needle point artist how to sell more books to an even more specific audience… “needle point enthusiasts”  about her needle point work to an audience larger than the population of the city she lived in.  This led Merri to eventually become Executive Editor of an award winning magazine in Florida.

My story allowed Merri and me to work and live from Hong Kong to London to Europe to Eastern Europe, then the Caribbean and then Ecuador… making millions in the process of following our adventures… having fun… while helping a large readership adapt to a rapidly changing world.

That’s what self publishing can bring, profit, adventure and fulfillment, a great feeling of worth and wonder.

Self Publishing has created exactly the lifestyle we desire allowing us to span the world and work with meaning and purpose.

Self Publishing has become a new business art form.

The seven secrets can help you start your own self publishing business now.

Everything in publishing is new and exciting and changing.  Publishing is being recreated by the wonderful power of destructive technology.

Everything is new… except the seven secrets.

Change in the publishing industry is disturbing many.   We love this evolution due to these seven secrets we call the 7Ps.  The 7 Ps are so fundamental to writing and publishing that new technology enhances rather than reduces their power.

The First P is Passion.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it AND create income with self publishing.  This can be your direct ticket to the kind of fulfillment you’ve always wanted.

Whether you want to travel the world or live as a recluse, work 12 hours a day or not work much at all,  you can set your schedule to succeed, if you’re willing to learn these seven secrets.

You can start part-time with any dream, passion, and budget.  Once you’ve created a product, you’ll enjoy the “multiple effect” of producing profits over and over again.

So the question is… What do you love to do?

What’s Your Passion:  An example is that thirty years ago, a client of Merri’s had a passion to help people who were in pain?  He published a series of pamphlets explaining various chiropractic disorders in very simple terms.  For example: “What Is Whiplash?”

The pamphlets contained solid information, but were simple 5″ x 7″ brochures with drawings and explanations. He sold them with a rack to chiropractors, who put them in their offices for patients to read.  These little self-published items sold year in and year out for decades.

There are thousands of ideas of this sort that can lead to big business.  It’s just a matter of defining and then acting on your passion.

Although I can work when I please and go where I wish, for me the most important reason for being a publisher is the satisfaction it brings.

I love the projects I take on, so work doesn’t feel like, well… work.

What do you love?  If you love golf, then you can write and sell publications about golf.  Love travel, fishing, dogs, dolls, or art?  Write and sell publications in these fields.

Are you concerned about crime, war, poverty or environmental issues?  You can publish information products that help reduce these concerns.

Would you like to help the world be a more spiritual place?  Publish a newsletter, write a book (or hire someone to write it for you), record a tape… publish something that enlightens people.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it and earn income by publishing for ereaders, print on demand, CDs, lists, bound books, or any format you choose.

Be immersed in your passion and get paid well for it.

This is why stardom is not the main goal for most writers and self publishers.  Extra income, more freedom and fulfillment are usually more than enough enough.

The seven Ps are:

#1: Passion

#2: Problem

#3: Person

#4: Profitably Priced Product

#5: Prospecting Pathway

#6: Promise

#7: Presentation

The first time I exposed others to the secrets in Self Publishing was in a weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.  We offered the camp for $1,500. 80 delegates enrolled.  People from all walks of life attended—chiropractors, businessmen, investors, doctors, realtors, inventors, airline pilots, engineers, and housewives.

Merri and I were so overwhelmed by the response, we decided to make it available to a larger audience.  We created a written course based on our current self publishing activity called “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher.”  Then we recorded the weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.

Thousands have used the course as it has evolved over the decades.

You can receive both the written course and the recorded weekend seminar, in an MP3 file, in a special “Live Well and Free Anywhere” program I am making available to you.  The normal fee is $299 for the written course and $299 for the recorded workshop.   I’ll send you both the course and the recorded workshop and my course “International Business Made EZ (also $299) all for $299.  You save $598.

We are so confident that you’ll gain from this offer that if you are not fully satisfied, simply email us within 60 days for a full refund .

These courses are not theoretical.  They describe, step-by-step, how Merri and I built a million-dollar international business and how we are running this self publishing business right now.   We use the 7Ps today just as we did four decades ago to create a strong annual income.

This correspondence course is for those who would like their own international self publishing micro business for fun and profit. If you want fun, freedom, extra income and fulfillment with your own full or part time writing or want to build your existing business, by writing to sell you can profit from this course.  The course can help who want their own business or who want to have a business together or a family business.  This is the perfect course for those who can no longer find employment, who are looking for ways to earn abroad and who wish to retire and supplement their income.

Whether you are retired, an investor, chiropractor, doctor, dentist, professional or already own your own business, this offers another way to make money, to turn your passion into profit. We guarantee that we have shared all we know to help you start and run your own international business.  Enjoy and live a life of following your Passion to Profit… through writing.

Here is a special offer.

We provide two emailed courses  “Self Fulfilled – How to Write to Sell and be a Self Publisher” and “International Business Made EZ”.

We include the “Self Fulfilled Writing and Self Publishing Course” because there are two reasons to write, when you have something to say or when you have something to sell.  In this day and age many of us want to do both, make a statement that makes the world a better place and earn something extra in the process.

Whatever your passion, however you do business, chances are you’ll be writing either to create a product or to sell a product.

You save more than $598 because you also receive a recorded webinar conducted by our webmaster David Cross (at no extra cost).

Super Thinking.  There are numerous little known, but scientifically proven ways to enhance the speed, accuracy and efficiency of your decision making process for greater wealth, health and happiness.

In this three day seminar you can gain almost amazing learning skills. At least three best selling books, Superlearning, the Mozart Effect and Superlearning 2000 have revealed insights about how we can learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian, Dr. Georgi Lozanov and his incredible techniques which Merri had the privilege of studying in the 1970s. In 1980 Superlearning sold over two million copies and showed how the Lozanov learning system blended long-tested sciences of yoga with contemporary physiology and psychology so people could learn faster and better.

This system teaches how to integrate brain waves through all five sense so the process of absorbing, processing and recalling information is vastly accelerated.  You learn how to use music, aromas, touch, colors and tastes to gain the three C’s:  Calm, Clarity and Coherence. This is a course that shows you how to increase your mental power to better succeed in the 21st century when we can otherwise be overwhelmed by so much information. We are in our 46th year of business.  We share what we have learned in our upcoming seminar.

Strange In-Formation Brings Success

A reader’s comment about last week’s message “Trapped in a Strange Place” sparked a thought about our thoughts.

When you are strange

When You’re Strange… the Doors

Strange thoughts… that are normal can ruin your multi currency investing… your business.. or your move to Ecuador.

www.animal-photos.org/keywords/bull

Photo from Animalphotos.com

What are your thoughts about this bull in a field?

The reader wrote: Gary, your readers say  that  even at home, they feel trapped in a strange place because America is no longer what they used to know.  The funny thing is people in America and in every country of the world have been saying that same thing every year for hundreds of years. This is not new or news.

I replied:  I agree.  This part of our thought process creates two mental errors.   This first error is to think of the past as the “good old days” and second to want to possess and maintain the past.

This is also not news.  These ideas… or feelings that we are out of place or out of sorts due to change… and feeling possessive of the past. These are mental – emotional errors caused by human nature.

I watched this phenomenon in Naples, Florida.  Some of us moved there when it was a sleepy fishing village.  Whenever we spoke of where we lived we had to explain where Naples was…”Two hours west of Miami”.   We lived there for a decade and a half or so before Naples really caught on.  Many new residents arrived and soon they seemed to feel that Naples was their town and that no one else new should be allowed to move in.

The same evolution has occurred in Ecuador.   When we moved to Ecuador there were very few expats.  Now a bit more than 15 years later the expats who have been in Ecuador for a couple of years are not liking the new expats.  They want expats to stop moving in.

I call this  “The Close the Gate” syndrome and it is a really serious mental error.

Those who can understand the why of these human impulses become more intelligent, flexible and are better positioned to be happy, healthy and wealthy.

What are your thoughts about this baby bear?

This error of thought that can ruin our business and multi currency investing develops when we misunderstand the reality of In – Formation.

A portion of a great translation of Patanjali’s Sutra by Swami Prabhavananda and Chistopher Isherwood explains this erroneous thought process.

This  book says (bolds are mine): When an object or event in the external world is recorded by the senses, a thought wave is raised in the mind.

The ego-sense identifies itself with this wave.  This false identification is the cause of all our misery.

The translation says that according to Patanjali the mind is made of three components. The first is a recording faculty which receives impressions gathered by the senses from the outside world.  The second component  is a discriminative faculty which classifies these impressions and reacts to them.  The third is the ego sense which claims these impressions for its own and stores them as individual knowledge.

The book says: For example, manas reports: A large animate object is quickly approaching. Buddhi  decides; “That’s a bull. It is angry. It wants to attack someone.” Ahamkar screams: “It wants to attack me. It is I who see the bull. It is I who am frightened. It is I who is about to run away”. Later, from the branches of a nearby tree, ahamkar may add: “Now I know that this bull (which is not I) is dangerous. There are others who do not know this; it is my personal knowledge, which will cause me to avoid this bull in the future.

It is as if a little electric light bulb would declare I am the electric current and then proceed to describe electricity as a pear-shaped glass object containing filaments of wire.

Here is how this mental error can ruin our multi currency investing.  Once a person claims possession of the past, then change becomes a threat.  Alterations to our thoughts become challenges… instead of new IN -formation.

The owner of knowledge rejects or argues with reality.  Owning that bull above could be very beneficial. Being around that baby bear might be very dangerous.  The owners of different opinions who don’t change their view to those realities could become trapped in a strange (and dangerous) places.

In the same way because they have discovered Ecuador or some new place where they move, they wish to take possession and stop new people (the same as new IN – formation) from coming in.  This closes their minds to the benefits of an increasing expat population.

Multi currency investors feel comfortable in bull markets and uncomfortable in bear markets.  The opposite should be true because the biggest profit potential is always in the bear!

But how do we get in touch with ourselves to use this enormously powerful law?

Understanding and being able to follow our intuition can be enormously difficult, but an anonymous 14th century Samurai warrior gives us a clue how to do this. This Warrior’s Creed explains what to do better than I could!   I would like to share it here with you.

A WARRIOR’S CREED I have no parents: I make the heavens and earth my parents. I have no home: I make awareness my home. I have no life or death: I make the tides of breathing my life and death. I have no divine power: I make honesty my divine power. I have no means: I make understanding my means. I have no magic secrets: I make character my magic secret. I have no body: I make endurance my body. I have no eyes: I make the flash of lightning my eyes. I have no ears: I make sensibility my ears. I have no limbs: I make promptness my limbs. I have no strategy: I make unshadowed by thought my strategy. I have no designs: I make seizing opportunity by the forelock my design. I have no miracles: I make right action my miracles. I have no principles: I make adaptability to all circumstances my principles. I have no tactics: I make emptiness and fullness my tactics. I have no talents: I make readiness my talent. I have no friends: I make my mind my friend. I have no enemy: I make carelessness my enemy. I have no armor: I make benevolence and righteousness my armor. I have no castle: I make immovable mind my castle. I have no sword: I make absence of self my sword.

Whether we are investors or business people, we are commercial warriors.  Despite industrial eras, technology, innovation and all the miracles of our modern world, the true nature of life, commerce and business has not altered one bit.  Change is the only permanence and adaptability is a most powerful investing tool.

Use this this wisdom in investing, business and life and you will not find the results strange.

Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere

A huge economic struggle is taking place.

The hazard began with the Bayer Monsanto merger.   Recent verdicts against Roundup have accelerated the risk.

Bayer shares have fallen dramatically due to the merger especially after an award of more than $2 billion in damages to a couple who alleged that the company’s glyphosate-based weed killer Roundup caused their cancers.

This third loss-in-a-row by Bayer in U.S. courts and highest award to date has put the company in a tailspin. It 13,400 more such lawsuits and shareholders have rebuked Bayer’s top management over its handling of the Monsanto acquisition and this litigation.  The chart below shows how this has wiped over half of Bayer’s market value .

bayer

See up to date Bayer chart at www.finance.yahoo.com

Bayer’s struggle to protect itself can create disaster in almost every part of our lives, from food to our pets to our medicine.

The battle could destroy what’s left of our privacy, the safety of our food supply, the control over our health, the safety of our money and even the sanctity of our opinions and thoughts could be lost.

Markets and social order can collapse at any time.  Schools, businesses, post offices, any public place, are not safe from shooters on the rampage.  Streets are in danger of terrorists ramming their cars into riders on bikes.  We are no longer safe… in shopping centers, at festivals, even in church.

Yet the bigger danger grows and the struggle is taking place, right now.

You can read about tiny parts of this conflict daily in the news.   Most of the clash however is hidden from view.  There are horrible consequences hidden beneath the visible spin.

There is an association forming that can ruin our health care, nutrition and the environment.  This group an control what you read on the internet, see all the words in our phone calls, watch what we see on TV and slant the trends we learn about in social media.

Everything you write or say can be recorded and used  to control what you hear and read.

The warning shot, above the surface, was the merger between Bayer and Monsanto.

Bayer and Monsanto each have each developed poisons that are harsh on our ecosystem.

The merger of the two firms should have been stopped to ensure human and planetary survival.

But these massive companies have invested so much into lobbying and financing political campaigns that they have the ability to shape political systems to their own end.

Scientific studies found that neonicotinoid pesticides made by Bayer have almost eradicated some bird populations and flying insects.

These pesticides, along with Monsanto’s toxic herbicide Roundup, have delivered a one-two punch against  butterflies, honeybees and birds. Roundup has also been linked to over 40 human diseases, including cancer.

But both the US and the European Union approved the $66 billion merger of Bayer and Monsanto.  This union not only increases the potential of adding toxic poison to the environment but also gives this giant form control over genetically modified (GMO) seeds that have reduced seed diversity globally.

This union is horrible enough, yet it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Seven companies are involved in a more sinister plot.

The momentum of this dangerous alliance has picked up faster than anticipated.

I began researching and preparing a report “Learn Anywhere, Earn Everywhere” when the Bayer-Monsanto merger was the big deal.   They were two of the seven firms involved in this almost invisible take-over of our food and medical services as well as the internet, cell phones and TV.

I started researching when I saw the hidden depths of this Bayer-Monsanto merger.  I was truly concerned and shocked because my research discovered that the consolidation of Bayer and Monsanto is not the biggest merger nor the most dangerous by far.

Due to the urgency created by the Roundup lawsuits I have miscalculated how much time we have.  I went to work on the report right away, taking my time to delve deeply, but even before I have finished the report, events have begun to heat up.   The pace of this hidden unification has increased.  Now another merger is taking place, far more destructive and the alliance has an incredible lobby program working to make sure that the deal goes through.

A triad of three huge concerns and four smaller ones with hundreds of billions of dollars have built one of the most formidable lobbying operations in Washington.  Nearly 100 registered lobbyists are already on retainer and they include former members of Congress.   One company in this heptagon is also the largest donor to federal lawmakers.

The donations we know of equal more than $11 million paid to 374 of the House’s 435 members and 85 of the Senate’s 100 members in this election cycle.

This deadly seven point affiliation is likely to snake into almost every part of our livelihood.

One part of the cartel will increase our dependence on modified food that can purposely increase our needs for pharmaceuticals manufactured and sold at outrageous prices by another arm of the group.

The organizations will know more about us than any other group in existence.  They will (in fact they already are) act as spies for the government.  This amalgamation will control what ads we see, the products we buy, listen into our phone calls and even monitor and influence what we see on TV.

Sadly most of the public will not even know that this fusion has taken place.  Life will appear to go on as normal.  They won’t even see the change as what’s left of their good life which could be drained away by corporate malfeasance.

This is why I am rushing a report to you so you can be one of the few who avoid the ruin of this alliance and gain rather than lose from the shift.

The report “Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere” contains seven steps we can take to gain benefits and protection from this cartel.

Here is some background.  At the beginning of the 20th century, Carl Duisberg, the head of Bayer, created a profit sharing cartel from three firms BASF, Bayer and Agfa, called the Dreibund (Triple Alliance) or little IG.

This German chemical association dominated commerce everywhere under the name of IG Farben, the largest company in Europe, the 4th largest anywhere and the largest chemical company in the world.

Because “Power Corrupts” this company morphed into something truly evil before and during the Second World War.

After WWII IG Farben was considered so morally corrupt it could not be allowed to continue to exist and was split into its original constituent companies.  Today Agfa, BASF, Sanofi and Bayer (now expanded) remain.

This is where facts become truly scary.  Some of these very same companies have merged with other mega concerns to create a new American Dreibund (a Triple Alliance dominating the USA).   This new cartel has such power it can take control of your food, your medicine and even influence, if not control, what you read and the information you access for health and wealth.  Even worse, they can monitor everything you do and give it to others in government and business as well.

From a political point of view we cannot do much about this alliance.   The cartel has hundreds of billions of dollars and hundreds of lobbyists.  They are making their big move right now, to take advantage of the current political distraction.  They know that after an election politicians are willing to accept bad news because it will be forgotten in four years.

In addition their greatest enemy in the government has only a couple of months left as the head of the Federal agency that will fight this cartel.

Only a few people will know how to take advantage of the shifts created from the results of this alliance.

The sooner we act, the greater the benefits.   This is why I want to rush my newest report “Live Anywhere-Earn Everywhere” to you.  This report shares how to protect what you have from this coalition that is taking over mainstream media, our food supply as well as our medical history, health care and communications.

Fortunately a loophole can set you free.  You can protect what you have and actually improve your situation, a lot.  Merri and I have already jumped though the loophole and want to share why and how you should too.

How to Gain Extra Freedom – While Almost Everyone Loses Theirs.  Become a Pruppie!

May I coin a new word, Pruppie?

We all know about preppers.  They believe that the world, as we know it, is about to end.  And we also know about Uppies, upward professionals as in Yuppies, young upward professionals.  Uppies expect their world to get better.

The reality is that our worlds have changed and for most of us, there is still great opportunity for a better lifestyle, yet the preppies could be right.

I invite you to join Merri and me as Pruppies, those who expect the world to get better and live and earn based on that expectation but enjoy a progressive lifestyle of freedom that also happens to prepare us for bad times as well as good.

Just in case… the world goes sideways… we will still survive and prosper anyway.  We do not give up anything much.  We can enjoy the good parts of the new economy, as we protect ourselves from what can be bad.

For example in this report, you’ll see how to make your dining room table bring you more control, more time, more income and more freedom.  After all, what can be more accessible than a dining room table?

ecuador-banks

You’ll even learn how to turn dining room tables into income and tax deductions as we have with these dining room tables we build out of local wood.

Let me be clear.  I expect that the world will get better, at least for the few who adapt and avoid the dangers the American Dreibund has planned for the public.  The wealth of the world, albeit with inequality, has continued to grow.  There is an incredible new economy that’s opening for those who know what to do.  There are great new opportunities and many of them offer enormous income potential and they even work well in disaster scenarios.

Let me provide one simple, concrete example.  Ginseng.

This is a great health root.  The demand is growing especially in China.  At times good dried Ginseng sells for $1,000 a pound!  This is an incredible and easy crop to grow.   The less care you give it, the more valuable it can become.  Yet if everything goes south, the health qualities will be good to have and make it an excellent barter item.  Once you know what to do with ginseng, it’s easy to grow in your back yard.

Even better one of the best kept secrets is that ginseng and 125 other medicinal crops that are currently unsustainable but can be grown on land  that is extraordinarily cheap.

goldenseal ginseng

Ginseng growing in our back yard.  I know about growing ginseng through experience and explain why and how in the report.

There are are specific places that reduce your living expenses, easily increase your income, make you smarter, healthier and provide tax benefits as well.

Learn about these specific places.  More important learn what makes these places special and seven freedom producing steps that you can use to find other similar spots of opportunity.

Here are some of the experiences this report shares:

The report includes a tax and career plan broken into four age groups, before you finish school, from age 25 to 50 – age 50-to 65 and what to do when you reach the age where tradition wants you to re-tire.  (Another clue-you do not need to retire and probably should not).

The report is very specific because it is about what Merri and I, our children and even my sister and thousands of our readers have done and are doing.

Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere focuses on a system that takes advantage of living in Smalltown USA, but earning globally.

  • Learn about the magic of the north facing slope.   This is where Merri and I live almost half of our time.  North facing mountain land is some of the least expensive in the world but has hidden values that the report reveals.  There is a lot of this land and a lot of hidden value that you can tap.   When we bought our Blue Ridge farm (252 acres) I mentioned this to my Swiss banking friend.  “That’s bigger than the entire village where I live!” was his response.  Smalltown USA offers a last chance at having a lot of space.  By living in two Smalltown places there are enormous tax advantages as well.  One step in the system saves Merri and me over $28,345 in taxes a year.

The report shows how to buy cheap north facing slopes and create an income producing tiny home for $29,000 or less.

If you lack the $29,000 to invest, a start up using tents is even less.  These are tipis we put up at our farm before we built our first tiny home.  Learn how they can create tens of thousands of dollars in income for you.

Fwd: gary-scott-tipis

  • See ways that small businesses like Tipi rentals can create BIG tax savings as well as extra income.  For more than 30 years Merri and I have enjoyed a strong six figure income, some years more, in the millions.  Yet there have been very few years when we had to pay federal income tax.  The report lays out a three structure program and how it is used when you are in school (up to age 30), then from 25 to 50, 50 to 70  and beyond 70.   Learn why Chapter C corporations and pensions can be better than the normally recommended Chapter S.  See how new mileage log rules gives you a possible opportunity to increase your tax deductions using IRS Form 4562.  Using a two-vehicle strategy you can gain $12,976 in new deductions even if you do not have to drive one mile further or spend one additional penny on your car.
  • See how a greenhouse can help you eat better and be healthier, plus provide income and a tax deduction and be funded by a government grant.

gary-scott-farming

Our North Carolina greenhouse.

gary scott greenhouse

Our Florida greenhouse.

  • There are similar benefits from having a second home office defined in IRS publication 463 and IRS publication 587, even if your desk is a dining room table.  The report also shows how your dining room table can become an actual income producer as its creates a huge tax deduction at the same time, not to mention a great place to eat, work and lay out plans for a brighter, safer more lucrative and enjoyable future.
  • Living in this environment is also healthier, economically as well as physically.  You’ll see in the report how researchers at Harvard found an amazing correlation between living in conditions found on north facing slopes, longevity and mental health.  The researchers were quite surprised by this strong correlation that also extended into mental health.  In addition to feeling better, reducing stress and having more Joie de Vivre the places outlined in “Live Anywhere-Earn Everywhere” can help you avoid hospitals, high cost disease management (aka health care) and BIG pharma while providing an investment opportunity in three plants that have some of the fastest growing demand in natural health care.  These three plants are just one of seven business opportunities that can create multiple streams of income.
  • How changes in cell phone and internet technology eliminated the need to be in one place.   An old law that creates new opportunity for small business in small towns is available to everyone.
  • Use the specific search and purchase guide.  Construction plans are included that show how to generate first tier income that leads to five, second tier avenues of earnings.
  • How to pay off old debt and avoid new debt by avoiding spurts and embracing value.
  • Learn seven skills that will always have value.  See how to turn First Aid, medicinal plants, hospitality, food, trees, alternate energy and writing to sell into everlasting, low stress wealth.

Bank Where It Is Best… 4 U

Bank, live and take care of your health where it is best for you.  Modern technology and communications means you can choose where to bank.

jyske-bank

Jyske Bank… Denmark’s 2nd largest bank. See why Denmark is third safest banking in the world (after Australia and Canada) below.

Yesterday’s message “Trapped in a Strange Place” that suggested “Live, bank in one country, bank in a second and invest in three currencies” brought many comments… including readers wanting copies of my first book “Passport to International Profit” published in the 1970s.  This article attracted more than the normal interest because it coincided with rumors that Chase Bank was shutting down cash withdrawals and international wire transfers.

Numerous websites were sending emails saying:  This is a lead up to capital controls to prevent money leaving the country, forcing businesses to abandon cash or a Cyprus-style bail-ins where the government announces a new “tax” to take a chunk of people’s savings.

One site said:  This is happening! The capital controls begin on November 17th. Bank runs may follow. Chase Bank is now admitting that you cannot use your own money that you’ve deposited there.

Quite a few readers sent notes of panic and I repliedI have been watching this and researched it a bit.  My belief is that a commercial move by Chase has blown far out of proportion.

Keep in mind I have been a multi currency investor and have the majority of my funds outside the US but not for this reason.

It appears to me that Chase offered wire transfers on an account with low fees and are now moving customers to a more expensive account.

My advice for more than three decades has been live in one country… bank in a second and hold currencies in at least three countries.  This is for far more reasons than capital controls…. asset protection is vital yes but getting a wider range of multi currency investment advice is the main benefit in my opinion.

We were the first by far to encourage investors to diversify geographically and currency wise, but we do not recommend making changes in panic caused by fear producing inaccurate information.

I have copied Thomas Fischer in Denmark as he can help you invest abroad.

You can get more information about banking in Denmark from Thomas Fischer at Thomas@enrasset.com

Hopefully you are a longer term reader and already have funds abroad but not because you think there will be some form of capital control.

Hopefully you are banking where it is best for you… where you get the best service… with the greatest safety for the best price.

Where should one bank?

Our October International Investing and Business seminar looked at how to bank in Denmark and have multi currency portfolios managed from Canada.

One delegate at the seminar wrote:  Dear Gary and Merri,  Before I leave for Panama tomorrow, I wanted to take time to thank you for allowing me to attend the seminar on investing. I learned a great deal about investing, financial management and negotiating in a foreign county. I could not have learned all that I did from your “boots on the ground” training in years of researching. I also received confirmation for what I had been researching and preparations that I am making to be successful in setting up a business and living in Latin America. I look forward to seeing you and Merri in the future. I will be contacting other members of your team in the near future.  Again thanks for bringing me into your most enlightening world.  Most humbly, Sherri.

Join us February 14-15-16 in Central Florida for our next International Investing and Business Seminar.  See details here.

We have been advising readers to bank in Denmark for over 20 years and now show how to bank in Denmark and have investment management done from Canada.

This idea is supported by the October 16, 2013 USA Today article: “11 countries with perfect credit” by Charley Blaine, that shows the three best countries for safety are Australia, Canada and Denmark. (in that order).  See a link to the entire article below.

Here is an excerpt:  A bipartisan deal was reached to end the government shutdown and raise the debt ceiling on Wednesday. While this provides immediate relief, the agreement is only a short reprieve. Funding to the government now ends January 15, and the debt ceiling will only be raised through February 7th.

In fact, Fitch Ratings warned on Tuesday that it might downgrade U.S. debt amid fears Congress could not find a resolution to the raising the debt ceiling. Fitch and Moody’s still assign the U.S. their top ratings (AAA and Aaa respectively); Standard & Poor’s downgraded the U.S. to AA+ in August 2011.

1. Australia

S&P/Moody’s ratings: AAA/Aaa
S&P/Moody’s outlook: stable/stable
2012 GDP growth: 3.7%
Unemployment rate: 5.8%

Australia’s AAA rating is based on a solid economy and low government spending. By 2012, the economy had grown by an average of 3.5% a year for more than 20 years. The government debt-to-GDP ratio was 27.9% at the end of 2012, low even among countries that received top ratings from all three agencies. If there’s a vulnerability, it’s that much of the economy is based on exports of natural resources and energy to fast-growing economies, especially China. Growth in the last few years has been stressed by softening conditions in China, but not nearly enough to threaten Australia’s high ratings.

2. Canada

S&P/Moody’s ratings: AAA/Aaa
S&P/Moody’s outlook: stable/stable
2012 GDP growth: 1.7%
Unemployment rate: 6.9%

Canada’s economy mirrors the U.S. economy. It has a big automotive sector. Technology companies are growing in and around Vancouver and Toronto. It is the largest supplier of energy to the U.S., including oil, natural gas, uranium and hydroelectricity. In all, roughly three quarters of Canadian exports go to the U.S. The country was hit hard by the 2008-2009 recession, first with its automotive sector slumping and then with declining commodity prices, especially oil. Canadian banks, however, largely weathered the economic storm. Also, recent rising oil prices and exports to the U.S. have boosted the economy.

3. Denmark

S&P/Moody’s ratings: AAA/Aaa
S&P/Moody’s outlook: stable/stable
2012 GDP growth: -0.4%
Unemployment rate: 6.6%

Denmark’s finances are in solid shape, despite after-effects from the 2008-2009 financial crisis and the eurozone crisis. Government debt is 59% of GDP, higher than any other AAA rated economy. Denmark has considerable strengths, including a vibrant maritime industry and a strong pharmaceutical industry. Unemployment, however, remains relatively high at 6.6%, but the rate has come down slowly from 7.4% 12 months earlier.

Gain Protection First – Against the Dollar’s Purchasing Power Loss.  In 1913 the The Federal Reserve Act created the Federal Reserve Bank to protect the purchasing power of the US dollar, which has since lost about 94% of its purchasing power.  Here is its price compared with gold since 1900.

Many investors have forgotten about the risk of a falling dollar because the greenback has been strong for the past five years.  This temporary dollar strength came after the great recession of 2009 just as there was temporary dollar strength after the great recession of the 1980s.  Then about six years after the recession, an agreement was made by major governments to weaken the dollar.

There was a severe global economic recession affecting much of the developed world in the late 1970s and early 1980s.  The United States and Japan exited the recession relatively early, but high unemployment would continue to affect Europe and the UK through to at least 1985.  As a consequence between 1980 and 1985, the US dollar had appreciated by about 50% against the Japanese yen, Deutsche mark, French franc and British pound, the currencies of the next four biggest economies at the time. Then the governments reached an agreement and exchange rate values of the dollar versus the yen declined by 51% from 1985 to 1987.

Now the world is again in the same place.  The recession is over.  Europe is a bit behind in recovery and the dollar is higher than before the recession.

There is no reason for the greenback to be  strong.

The agreement in 1985 was called the Plaza Accord.   Over just two years the greenback dropped nearly 50% versus other major currencies.  The next accord will generate great profits for those who know what to do while it ruins the purchasing power of dollar back investments.

The strong US dollar and low interest rates have created one of the biggest stock and multi currency breakout opportunities in history.  Learn how to create a plan to profit from multi currency shifts ahead.

One reason for the potential gains is that stock markets and currency values are cyclical.  Due to low interest rates created by the 2009 economic downturn, the US and a few other equity markets have risen to some of their highest prices, ever.  These markets offer very poor value now.  The steep valuation creates incredible profit potential but also hides some enormous risks.  Learn how to develop an investing strategy based of earnings, cash flows, dividends and book values to increase potential for profit and reduce the risks.

Next Extra Profit Created by Value Breakouts

Over the history of US equity markets, the  price of overall markets have risen about 9.1 percent, respectively, compounded annually.  Yet over more than a hundred years of stock market activity,  a majority of the profits have come from just a very few dramatic breakouts.

Equity markets are ruled in the short term by emotions that create unpredictable ups and downs.  Numerous fears of defaults, worries of double dip recessions, high unemployment, concerns about fiscal cliffs, hold investors back.  Yet global population growth and advances in production and prosperity are relentless economic fundamentals that increase value.

When fear holds back a a fundamentally rising value, rising profit potential grows.  Values increase as prices stagnate.  Then markets break free and rocket upwards creating wealth, prosperity and growth.

Find out which breakouts are likely to take place next.

Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics. Cycles create recurring profits. Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 years as shown in this graph.

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns create war.

Here is the war stock cycle.  Military struggles (like the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the Cold War: WWIII) super charge inventiveness that creates new forms of productivity…the steam engine, the internal combustion engine,  production line processes, jet engines, TV, farming techniques, plastics, telephone, computer and lastly during the Cold War, the internet.  The military technology shifts to domestic use.  A boom is created that leads to excess.  Excess leads to correction. Correction creates an economic downturn and again to war.

* How to improve safety and increase profit with leverage and staying power.  The seminar reveals Warren Buffett’s value investing strategy from research published at Yale University’s website.  This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios), but his big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of outperformance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Learn how to put meaning into your investing by creating profitable strategies that combine good value investments with unique, personal goals.

Learn how to span the behavior gap.  Behavior gaps are among the biggest reasons why so many investors fail.  Human evolution makes fear the second most powerful motivator.  (Greed is the third.)  Fear creates investment losses due to behavior gaps.  Fear motivates us more strongly than desire.  By nature investors are risk adverse, when they should embrace risk.  Purpose is the most powerful motivator,  stronger than fear and greed.  One powerful way to overcome the behavior gap is to invest with a purpose.

Learn how to use Country ETFs to easily construct a diversified, risk-controlled, equally weighted representative country portfolios in all of these good value countries.

To achieve this goal my portfolio consists of Country Index ETFs that track an index of shares in a specific country.  These country ETFs provide diversification into a basket of equities in the good value countries.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund as well so such ETFs provide diversification and cost efficiency.

This is an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value because little management and guesswork is required.  You are investing in a diversified portfolio of good value indices.  A BUY rating for an index does NOT imply that any stock in that country is an attractive investment, so you do not have to pick and choose shares.  You can invest in the index which is like investing in all the shares in the index.  All you have to do is invest in an ETF that in turn invests passively in all the shares of the index.

Learn the results of a $80,000 share purchase cost test that found the least expensive way to invest in good value.  The keys to this portfolio are good value, low cost, minimal fuss and bother.  Plus a great savings of time.  Trading is minimal, usually not more than one or two shares are bought or sold in a year.  I wanted to find the very least expensive way to create and hold this portfolio so I performed a test.

The Test for Low Cost Trading

Research put every part of this portfolio in place, except knowing the best, easiest and least expensive way to buy.  A search for an optimal way to buy and hold boiled down to two methods.  One tactic to test was to use a unique online broker that appeared to offer the lowest cost deal.  The other approach was to use a community bank in Smalltown USA.  The small town bank that I use looks after my 401K trust account and their service is first class.  The benefit of small banks is that they still treat us as a human beings (instead of a number) and when we need, it’s easy to go right to the top to answer a question or get a problem resolved.  There are no call centers and the bank and the person looking after my account is just around the corner.

I created a test to see which offered the least expensive service.

Working with my banker in Smalltown USA,  I created two accounts, one at the online broker and the other at the bank. I placed $40,000 in each.

I set up the order for the country ETFs online, while my trust manager set up orders for the identical amounts of the same shares in his system.  Then we got on the phone, coordinated our timing and on a count of three each pushed the button “BUY”.

The results of this test  show how you can gain on any purchase of country ETFs.

Multi Currency Investment Report 2014

Our Multi Currency Investment Report 2014 shows how to enhance safety and add profit potential.   Learn how to selecting good value and diversified investments…. in a multi currency portfolio. Study  our multi currency report “Borrow Low Deposit High”.

Our business has been publishing information on multi currency investing for 45 years.

Few decisions are as important to your wealth as WHICH CURRENCIES to invest in.  This has been our area of expertise since the 1970s… and we have worked with Jyske Bank…. one of the largest currency traders in the world  for 25 years.   Recently we combined Jyske’s expertise with that of ENR Asset Management, a Canadian investment manager, so Americans can have multi currency portfolios combined with Danish banking safety.

Learn how to use this combination for extra purchasing power and investing safety in our report “Borrow Low Deposit High – How to Use the Multi Currency Investment Sandwich.”

You gain seven benefits with multi currency portfolios held in overseas banks.

#1: Protection Against the Dollar’s Loss of Purchasing Power.  In 1913 the The Federal Reserve Act created the Federal Reserve Bank to protect the purchasing power of the US dollar… which has since lost about 94% of its purchasing power.  Here is its price compared with gold since 1900.

Dollar chart from pricedingold.com

Some good job.

Under the auspices of the Fed, the dollar lost most of its strength plus allowed interest rates to now fall to nearly zero so capital cannot be lent for enough to keep pace with the drop in purchasing.

However many readers may have forgotten about this risk because the greenback has been strong lately… as it was after the last great recession of the 1980s.

multi-currency-chart

Chart from Grandfather Economic Report.

History suggests that almost all currencies eventually lose purchasing power but fundmentals show that the US dollar will lose purchasing power faster than numerous other currencies right now.   One way to reduce this loss is as a multi currency investor.   “Borrow Low Deposit High” shows how to have portfolios like the Canadian “ENR Global Currency Sandwich portfolio”, an equally-weighted anti-dollar portfolio including the Norwegian krone, Swedish krona, Singapore dollar, New Zealand dollar and gold bullion.

#2: Bank Safety.  The USA is no longer the safest country in the world to invest.  In fact the US is not even in the top ten countries because the United States, the United Kingdom and France have all lost their perfect credit rating score.

The remaining countries with the highest credit ratings are wealthy economies that the three main credit rating agencies, Moody’s, Fitch, and Standard & Poors all still rate AAA or Aaa.   These countries are:

1. Australia
2. Canada
3. Denmark
4. Finland
5. Germany
6. Luxembourg
7. The Netherlands
8. Norway
9. Singapore
10. Sweden

#3: Multi Currency Expertise.  Americans… nor their bankers are not used to currencies beyond the US dollar.  Europeans bankers grow up thinking in a multi currency way.  Their countries are small and surrounded by nations with other currencies.  Facilities to make multi currency spending and investing easy are normal in Europe.  For example my account at Jyske bank has 13 currency sub accounts so when shares or bonds I hold pay dividends or interest, the funds are received and kept in these currencies instead of converted to the greenback.  As you’ll see it is normal to not only invest but to borrow Japanese yen, or Swiss franc or Euro to make investments in other currencies.

Most European bankers can buy bonds and shares in multiple markets where most US banks and brokers have little or no access or experience.

#4: Forex Profits From Currency Distortions.  Here is an example of such profits.  In December 2012 we sent readers a signal that the Japanese yen was too strong and was likely to weaken in early 2o13.

In the next six months the US dollar rose 13% against the yen.

finance.yahoo chart

Yen dollar chart at www.finance.yahoo.com

Readers who followed this call picked up a 13% forex profit.

On December 12, 2012 one USA dollar would buy 82 yen.  By July a dollar would buy 100 yen!

For over 20 years we have continually updated this report to help investors large and small learn how to spot and cash in on such currency distortions.

See below real six year examples below of how multi currency investing has doubled and even tripled profits… plus enhanced safety.

#5: Enhanced Privacy.   The multi currency report helps you learn how to legally enhance privacy.  The erosion of privacy is caused by technology and the global economy has made the erosion global.

Doctors, accountants, businessmen, political activists, and others have found themselves the targets of frivolous law suits, though they did nothing wrong, broke no laws, and harmed not a single soul.   One of the areas especially targeted by such law suits are the finances and privacy of individuals.

Over the past four decades I have watched the rights to privacy of everyone’s financial affairs slowly erode.

There are always positives that balance the negatives though.  As one loophole closes, others pop open.

Bank accounts abroad are far more private from commercial asset searches.

In addition a change in a US privacy reporting requirements now allows almost any investor to hold assets abroad… legally without reporting the fact to the IRS.

The primary document used by US government to keep track of US investments abroad is the Treasury Department Form 90-22.1.   This must be filed any year a person have an interest in, or a signing power on any foreign bank account or other types of financial accounts outside the United States.

Previously these accounts were defined as:

•    Bank accounts (checking and savings)
•    Investment accounts
•    Mutual funds
•    Retirement and pension accounts
•    Securities and other brokerage accounts
•    Debit card and prepaid credit card accounts
•    Life insurance and annuities having cash value

A new loophole has opened that allows Americans to legally hold substantial amount abroad in large safe banks without filing this form.

“Borrow Low Deposit High – How to Bank and Invest Abroad” shows how to hold even large sums in an overseas bank account with having to file a TDF 90-22.1.

#6: Gain Extra Asset Protection.  When you bank in country with a civil code legal system you gain extra asset protection.  Claims made in a common law country must be retried under civil law.  For example if a person has a judgement creditor in the USA… the judgement is not effective in Denmark.  The claim has to be retried in Denmark… a long expensive process for the creditor.  No claim from a US suit has ever been enforced against a Danish bank account.

#7:  Add Extra Investment Opportunity.  Smart investors who know how to spot value in multi currency portfolios gain an extra way to earn profits though  leverage.   We saw earlier how from December 2012 to July 2013 the US dollar rose over 13% against the yen and readers who followed this call picked up a 13% forex profit.

There is a second way they could have earned.  They could have borrowed Japanese yen at a low interest rate (2.5%) and invested the borrowed yen into a Dow Jones Industrial ETF for this six month period.

In this example $100,000 was invested and used as collateral to borrow $100,000 worth of Japanese yen at 2.50%.   The rate was 82 yen per dollar so to get $100,000 8,200,000 yen was borrowed.

The $200,000 was invested in a Dow Jones Industrial ETF… a mutual fund traded on the New York Stock exchange.

The ETF rose, along with the Dow, 12.85%

The Dow as shown in this chart rose over 12% from January to July 2013.

yahoo finance chart

www.finance.yahoo chart

The loan cost per year is $2,500 (2.5% on $100,000).    The $200,000 portfolio rose $25,700 (12.85% of $200,000).  In other words the $100,000 originally invested grew $23,200 in six months.

That is the positive carry without the forex profit.  Plus there is a forex gain as well.

By July a dollar would buy 100 yen!

To pay off the 8,200,000 loan would have cost $82,000 at the rate of 100 yen per dollar adding another $18,000 of profit.

The portfolio is worth $223,200 less $82,000 loan payoff or $141,200. That translates into a total six month profit of 41.2%.

This is one of numerous examples this report shares.

Let’s look at both the up and down side of these high performing portfolios?

The report provides an extensive beginner’s guide to developing multi currency portfolios backed up by our more than two decades of experience working with Jyske Bank and its investment management subsidiaries to create and track multi currency portfolios real time.  The report data comes from dissecting and discussing the portfolio results.  Readers learned… real time, from real portfolios created by some of the best investment managers in the world as these portfolios rise or fell in the market place… in the here and now.

Jyske Bank, Denmark’s second largest bank  assisted by providing portfolio details.   Now ENR Asset Management in Canada fills this role.   Our symbiotic relationship allows me to combine my experience with both Jyske Bank’s incredible knowledge, real time capability and expertise and ENR’s management skills so readers of the “Borrow Low Deposit High Report” can learn in a most practical way from some of the greatest multi currency experts in the world.

We continually look for breakouts because economic breakouts create fortunes.

One tactic we always review is our Borrow Low Deposit High Multi currency expectations.  This  strategy always contains two profitable breakouts… one in forex rates and one in positive carry.

The Multi Currency Sandwich is not a fast trading tactic.  Normally positions are looked at with a five year view and we have tracked this powerful long term strategy for more than 20 years.  Such is the power of the multi currency sandwich.

Here is our educational performance from 2006 till 2013.

We created five portfolios for educational purposes beginning in 2006.  One of the five multi currency portfolios was the Asian Emerging Multi Currency Portfolio. The portfolio started with a $100,000 investment and a $200,000 loan in Japanese yen (more on the loans in a moment).

This gave us $300,000 to invest in this portfolio.

Loan cost for one year $3,260.

This portfolio diversified into bonds and equities throughout Asia ..very multi currency.

Chinese yuan, Indian rupee, Japanese yen and more.

Twelve months later the portfolio was worth $417,420. Paying off the loan cost $203,260 leaving $214,160 or $114,160 (114.16% profit) on the $100,000 originally invested.

On November 1, 2006 we made the five changes mentioned above.  We dropped the Japanese equities and emerging market bond mutual funds and added an Eastern European, Far Eastern and Turkey equity mutual funds. This is how the rearranged portfolio stood.

Loan cost for one year $7,750.

As promised this portfolio only had five changes. We swapped the Japanese equity fund for a Eastern European equity fund and dropped the bond fund replacing it with a Far Eastern and Turkey equity fund.

May I, at this point, interject a note about ENR fund managers. They are a Canadian firm but assets and multi currency loans are at Jyske Bank.

In addition the portfolio manager, Thomas Fischer,  I have always worked with for the past ten years and who built these portfolios is moving from Jyske to ENR Management.

So how did that portfolio do?  From November 1, 2006 to October 31, 2007 the fund rose in value from $300,000 to $430,370. The loan payoff of $207,750 left a profit of $222,620 or a rise of 122.62%.

There you have it, a portfolio held at one of the world’s safest banks. With only three trades in two years the performance was 114.16% profit in one year 122.62% profit in year two.

I am sure that when looking at performance like that you are thinking “how did the other portfolios do?” Good question and your suspicions are correct…some of the other portfolios did not rise this much.

Yet believe it or not some portfolios did even better.

For example the 2007 Green Portfolio consisted of six shares and rose 266.30%!

Here is the exact performance of all five portfolios for two years.

2006 Portfolio
US Dollar Long9.04%
US Dollar Short10.43%

2007 Portfolios

Dollar Short48.19%
Swiss Samba53.32%
Asia Emerging Market122.62%
Green266.30%

You can imagine with performance like this attracted quite a bit of attention…and it did.  However there is more than high returns you gain with our multi currency report.

“Borrow Low Deposit High” does not recommend specific portfolios.   The portfolios in the report are educational and designed to help readers work with their own investment manager to create their own multi currency portfolio that suits their own special, individual needs.

“Borrow Low Deposit High” helps you learn how to manage your investment manager… nothing more.

This gives you triple profit potential because you’ll know how to spot strong currencies.    ENR can help you refine your thinking and execute a balanced portfolio. Jyske Bank provides a stable and safe institution who make multi currency loans and hold your assets.

“Borrow Low Deposit High” helps you learn why and when to invest in shares, how to leverage, how to create discipline and manage risk. The incredible portfolio performance above was achieved because the portfolios were leveraged using a tactic we call a multi currency sandwich.  Investors borrow low and invest in yielding or growth portfolios. The portfolios used loans in Japanese yen and Swiss francs to magnify profits in good times.

The report teaches how these loans can magnify losses in bad times as well.

For example look at the performance of the leveraged portfolios we created to study from November 2007 through September 2008.

2008 Portfolios
Infrastructure Portfolio-112%
Blue Chip Portfolio-79%
Danish Health Portfolio-92%
Asia Emerging Market-73%
Green-56%

Leverage in 2008 caused the portfolios to lose badly… in one instance the total portfolio was lost!

“Borrow Low – Deposit High” is especially useful now because we SHOULD NOT expect rising markets all the time.

You learn how to look ahead and act rather that react (when it is too late).

Trusting your fate to any one currency can destroy your purchasing power.    Every investor needs to know what to do!

The report helps learn how to look for times when to leverage and for times when to retract.  The idea is to cash in when the going is good and then withdraw.

This report has been read by tens of thousands of investors over the years.   This report, sold for decades as a survivor’s hand guide to currency turmoil for $79.

Here is what a few others from around the world have said about our services and reports on international investing.

“Gary , I am a long time subscriber in various media, and while cleaning out my files today I found some old ‘Gary A. Scotts World Reports’. In particular, the April 1988 issue provided the info that made me over a million dollars. Just wanted to say a belated ‘thank you’ and please continue the excellent work. Warm regards,”

From an Unknown Reader

“Dear Gary, I would like to give thanks to you for introducing me to Jyske Bank two years ago.

“I have been a long-time client of Merrill Lynch, but am in the process of re-evaluating my relationship with the largest brokerage company in the world. My problem is that when I compare Merrill to Jyske, Jyske outshines Merrill (or other major U.S. brokerage firms) in most categories as follows:

“1) Even though Jyske is much smaller, it has a much more global perspective which is critical in an evermore global investment environment.

“2) In order to maximize their own individual revenue, the brokers at Merrill prefer to outsource the day-to-day management of their accounts to various fund managers and hence, ‘manage the managers’. In contrast, I can call my Account Manager at Jyske and he can discuss every aspect of my account in detail with me.

“3) I attribute this difference in #2 to the fact that Jyske’s employees are not compensation driven, but instead are focused on satisfying their customers. That is why Jyske’s clients stay with the Bank on average for 12 years, which is phenomenal by Wall Street standards.

“4) Jyske’s security is far more stringent than that of Merrill’s. In addition to the standard account code and password, to pass through Jyske’s security one has to enter a Key Card number and also a randomly-generated 4-digit number from said Key Card.

“5) Having an account offshore allows me to sleep better given the anxious times we live in. Since I report the existence of the account and pay all taxes due, I am fully compliant with the law. However, such an account gives me and my family a ‘financial life boat’ should events in our own country ever get out of hand.

“As Dorothy Parker once said, ‘You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them THINK’. Jyske is a thinking person’s bank. My only complaint is the time zone difference since I live in California . However, since I am an early riser and my Account Manager is very responsive to my emails, this problem is very small relative to the HUGE benefits.

“Again, many thanks for introducing me to Jyske Bank. Given the ‘dumbing down’ that occurs in the popular media today, your ezine and its recommendations are ever more important. Please continue your good work to enlighten your readership.

“Warm regards,”

Multi Currency Value Investing Seminar

Old Accord Creates New Profits – Multi Currency Investments.

Earn more with multi currency stock market breakouts.

Improve Safety – Increase Profits

Learn how to improve the safety of your savings and investments by selecting good value and diversified investments in a multi-currency portfolio.

Few decisions are as important to your wealth as the value of the markets and currencies you invest in.  This has been our area of expertise since the 1970s and we have worked with and advised some of the largest currency traders in the world.

The Fed has let the dollar lose most of its strength plus has allowed interest rates to fall so low, that safe investments cannot keep pace with the drop in purchasing power.

Chart from Grandfather Economic Report (2)

Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.

Learn how the Cyber War (WWIV) may change the way we live and act and how this will affect currencies and investments.

Learn:

At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of outperformance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio, the better the odds of outstanding success.

Learn how much leverage to use.  Leverage is like medicine, the key is dose.  Buffett leverages his portfolio at a ratio of approximately 1.6 to 1.  This rate of expansion by the way is called the “Golden Ratio”.  It is a mathematical formula that controls the growth of most natural things; trees, the shape of leaves, the spiral of shells, as well as the way economies and societies grow.

We’ll sum the strategy, how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on your circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 (almost) years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

Enjoy investing more with slow, worry free, good value investing.  Stress, worry and fear are three of an investor’s worst enemies.  These are major foundations of the Behavior Gap, a trait exhibited by most investors, that causes them to underperform any market they choose.  The behavior gap is created by natural human responses to fear.  The losses created by this gap grow when investors trade short term under stress.

Combine your needs and capabilities with the secrets and the math of our good value model portfolio.

Share ideas about my good value portfolio.  My personal investment portfolio comes from a continual analysis of international stock markets and a comparison of their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.

Markets included in this portfolio are:

• Norway
• Australia
• Hong Kong
• Japan
• Singapore
• United Kingdom
• Taiwan
• South Korea
• China

These markets have been chosen based on four pillars of valuation.

• Absolute Valuation
• Relative Valuation
• Current versus Historic Valuation
• Current Relative versus Relative Historic Valuation

Important Multi Currency Shift – Emerging Market Value Update – Summer 2013

We can see a huge multi currency market shift  in this Emerging Market Value Update.   There was a huge value shift of global stock markets in 2010.

Prior to the 2010 shift we weighted our recommendations toward investments in emerging markets.  They enjoyed faster growth than developed markets.  Then in 2010 we warned that values had flipped.  Developed markets offered better value than emerging markets.

This value advice was valuable.  Since the proof of the pudding is in the eating, here is the proof.   This site recommended that the easiest way to reach major market value was the iShares MSCI World Index Fund ETF (symbol XWD ).  The MSCI World Index represents the value of 6,000 shares in 23 Developed Markets countries.

yahoo major market chart

Click on charts to enlarge.

This iShares ETF represents an investment in the Morgan Stanley Capital Index World.  This chart from www.finance.yahoo.com  shows the ETF is up 31.05% since early 2010.

yahoo emerging market chart

During this same period this chart from www.finance.yahoo.com of the IShares Morgan Stanley Capital Index Emerging Market Index ETF shows that this index dropped  -2.42% over the same period.

Now the values have flipped again.  See why below in the Keppler Asset Management Emerging Market Value Update for the Summer of 2013.

Once a quarter we look at the emerging equity market valuation analysis by Michael Keppler.  Michael’s firm is the best when it comes to value analysis of stock markets.

Here is an update on the values of emerging stock markets by Keppler Asset Management.

If you are a new multi currency subscriber learn about Keppler Asset Management here.

Recent Developments & Outlook

In the eleven years from the turn of the century to the end of 2010, Emerging Markets had a total return of 10.2 % p.a. This compares to a compound annual loss of 0.28 % for the Developed Markets during the same period.

Since then, this trend has turned and the Emerging Markets have lost about 22 % in relative performance.

The trend of underperformance has even accelerated this year with Emerging Markets losing some 4.9 %, while their sisters in the Developed Markets were up 11.7 % through the end of June 2013.

In the second quarter, the MSCI Emerging Markets Total Return Index (December 1988 = 100) declined 4.4 % in local currencies, 8.1 % in US dollars and 9.2 % in Euros. Year-to-date, the MSCI Emerging Markets Total Return Index is down 4.9 %, 9.6 % and 8.3 % in local currencies, US dollars and Euros, respectively. The index now stands at $ 1,239 and € 1,051. The Euro gained 1.2 % versus the US dollar in the second quarter and, at the end of June, stood at 1.2999 (USD/EUR), down 1.4 % compared with its level of 1.3184 at year-end 2012.

Among the three regional indices, Asia gave up 3.2 %, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) declined 3.1 % and Latin America lost 8.9 %. Year-to-date, all three regional indices declined: Asia by 3.3 %, EMEA by 4.1 % and Latin America by 10.0 %. Performance numbers are in local currencies unless mentioned otherwise.

Five markets advanced and sixteen markets declined last quarter.

Malaysia (+8.4 %), Hungary (+8.2 %) and India (+3.2 %) performed best, while Peru (-27.5 %), Turkey (-9.9 %), and Brazil (-9.4 %) did worst in the last three months.

Year-to-date, the Philippines (+13.8 %), Indonesia and Malaysia (both up 8.8 %) performed best. Peru (-29.3 %), the Czech Republic (-17.4 %) and Egypt (-11.8 %) came in last.

The Top Value Model Portfolio based on the Top Value Strategy (December 1988 = 100) declined 2.5 % in local currencies, 4.4 % in US dollars and 5.6 % in Euros last quarter.

Year-to-date, the Top Value Strategy lost 3.4 % in local currencies, 8.1 % in US dollars and 6.8 % in Euros.

There was one change in our performance ratings last quarter: Turkey was downgraded to “Neutral” from “Buy”.

Turkey was added to the Top Value Model Portfolio at the end of April 2005.

During the last eight years and one month, the MSCI Turkey TR Index advanced from $125 to $350, a compound annual return of 13.6 % versus 10.8 % for the MSCI Emerging Markets Index. Even though Turkey was not extremely overvalued based on its absolute valuation, the relative and historic benchmark comparisons — mainly it’s relative current (1.34), historic (1.32) and relative historic (1.47) Price/Dividend ratios — triggered the signal.

After having sold Turkey, the Top Value Model Portfolio contains the nine markets — Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Korea, Malaysia, Poland, Russia and Taiwan — at equal weights. According to our performance ratings, an equally weighted combination of these markets offers the highest expectation of long-term risk-adjusted performance.

The following table shows how the Emerging Markets Top Value Model Portfolio compares to the MSCI Emerging Markets Index and to the MSCI Developed Markets Index at the end of June 2013, based on selected asset and earnings valuation measures:

keppler chart

Based on our valuation and return analyses, the Emerging Markets are now undervalued by 20.7 % versus the Developed Markets, while the Emerging Markets Top Value Model Portfolio is now undervalued by 24.1 % versus the MSCI Emerging Markets Index and by a whopping 40.1 % compared with the MSCI World Index of the Developed Markets.

This bodes well with regard to potential outperformance of Emerging Markets in general and our Emerging Markets Top Value Model Portfolio in particular over the next three to five years.

Michael Keppler New York, July 16, 2013

This update suggests that this is a good time to take profits on over weighting of developed market shares and to re calibrate one’s portfolio to an over weighting of emerging market shares.

Remember that the overall market value is just one of many filters we should use when we review value. The seven steps we use in our reviews include:

#1: Are the shares traded in a good value market?

#2: Does the share trade at fair Price to Earnings and Price to Cash Flow ratios?

#3: Does the share pay a good value dividend?

#4: Do the share have a good value relative to their previous price?

#5: Does the company have rising earnings?

#6: Has the share price been rising?

#7: Is the company’s management good and is their product or service line in a wave of the future?

Michael Keppler also reminds investors not to misinterpret the investment analysis implicit in the Country Selection Strategy.  A country is BUY-rated based on the valuation levels reflected in the MSCI benchmark index of country.  A BUY rating therefore does NOT imply that any stock in that country would be considered an attractive investment.

To invest according to the Country Selection Strategy, it is necessary to construct diversified, risk-controlled, representative country portfolios in every BUY rated country, weighting each country approximately equally in the overall portfolio. It is not appropriate to instruct a stockbroker to simply to select stocks in the BUY rated countries.

Learn How to Write to Say or to Sell
