I regret that these roses are not available in Canada or outside the USA.

Gary-with-roses

Here I am with 250 fresh Ecuador roses I had delivered for Merri’s birthday.

Ecuador roses are very reasonably priced and we offer the best value here for premium roses. I recently checked the internet.

1800flowers offered 36 Martha Stewart Roses for $259.00.

Flowerbud.com offered 50 premium roses for $135.

48longstems.com offered 50 roses for only $69…plus shipping… $22.94
or a total 91.94.

www.overstock.com offered 50 roses for $94.99.

We charge only $79 for 50 fresh cut, premium roses, including Fedex overnight delivery.

This is  a great price because these are Premium Quality Roses.

Though this is perhaps the lowest price for roses you will see, the roses are special, not like anything offered in a store or even at most florists.

These are premium roses with extra large heads that open fully.

Fresher Quality Roses

Most roses go from Ecuador to Miami by air are stored in Miami then shipped by truck until they sit in a store. They can be a week or more old when you see them. The roses you receive from this offer are cut and stored overnight, driven by refrigerated truck to Quito airport and flown to Miami to a special refrigerated Fedex facility until, then flown to your Fedex destination for immediate delivery to your home or office. This means they last longer. During summer conditions are harshest for cut roses…a special instruction is included with your roses on how to make them last.

Fedex will deliver them to you within four days of being cut in Ecuador. Open them with the Fedex driver. If you are not satisfied do not accept delivery and have the Fedex driver take them back. Let me know. I’ll give you a full $79 refund.

This inspection must be done at the time of delivery and refunds cannot be processed after the roses have been delivered and the Fedex driver leaves.

Environmentally Clean Roses

The roses your receive are certified by Veriflora. The VERIFLORA seal is a real,
green program that regularly spot check farms for ecologically sound systems that include:

1- Water and ecological conservation: implementing water management systems to prevent depletion of fresh water supplies.

2- Product quality: implementing practices to ensure the quality of the product through the whole chain of delivery to the final consumer.

3- Advanced agricultural practices: integrating organic practices wherever possible. To only use approved green label certified pesticides. To allow no discharge of pesticides run off into the environment.

4- Waste management: recycling and composting as well as the proper disposal of agricultural chemicals.

By March of 2007 the co-op that sends your roses had certified 144 acres.

Certification means the growers have met or exceeded the requirements. There is no middle ground with Veriflora, no differing levels of certification. You either are ecologically sound and certified, or you aren’t.

That means you receive environmentally friendly roses.

Dining-room-roses

Here is a red and bi color combination of fresh Ecuador roses we had delivered to us in North Carolina.

Fair Trade Roses

In addition the Verflora seal requires the rose grower to be socially responsible adhering to recognized labor and community standards, specially pertaining to health and safety, work conditions, hiring practices, discrimination, harassment and fair pay.

The growers offer every single one of their workers:

-free doctor and medical treatment at the farm for workers
-day care facilities for infants
-free breakfast and lunch (and dinner when they work late)
-free sports and recreation facilities
-small business loans -when workers want to leave to set up their own small holding farm
-workers fund -for financial help with school fees to buy a car, etc
-complete health and safety equipment provided free -helmets , gloves, masks, etc
-paid maternity leave with a guarantee of work when they want to return
-overtime paid over and above the legal requirements
-Christmas parties, summer holiday excursions, sports tournaments
-a safe and secure work environment with job satisfaction and potential for personal development

There you have it…three great reasons to experience the warmth of the people and beauty of Ecuador…The freshest…best roses…and you help the environment and the poor by having them delivered into your home.

Your 50 roses will come packed in a special box with two colors of 25 each.

You can still order the 50 fresh cut roses for $79 ($20 is donated to LOTS) here.

These are fresh Ecuador roses delivered to our North Carolina office.

“Orders received before 9 am on Sunday will arrive the following Thursday or Friday.

Orders received after 9 am Sunday through 9 am Friday will
arrive the following Tuesday or Wednesday.”

The plantation will send a “how to care of roses” page in every box to ensure the proper care of the product.

Ecuador Lake Property for Sale

Ecuador Lake property offers opportunity.

Yesterday’s message looked at Ecuador & Water and some Ecuador lakes.

One of the great aspects of Ecuador is its Andean lakes.

One of the nicest lakes in Ecuador is Lake San Pablo near Otavalo and Cotacachi.

Ecuador-Lake-Property

San Pablo Lake.  San Pablo Lake has always been a source of these reeds which are made into reed sleeping mats.

Otavalo is two hours north of Quito and is perhaps the most prosperous area outside of Ecuador’s big cities.

Otavalo is an Indigenous city on the Pan-American Highway and this town sits on San Pablo Lake… about 15 minutes from our hotel Meson de las Flores.

Views of …

Ecuador-Lake-Property

San Pablo Lake which is…

Ecuador-Lake-Property

1,400 acres of surface and reaches 210 feet in depth.

This region is cradled between two volcanoes — Imbabura (15,026 feet) and Cotacachi (16,292 feet) and in Indigenous terms is one of the most sacred areas in the Andes.

This area enjoys a perennial springlike climate, with daytime highs in the low 70’s and nighttime lows in the 40’s. Flowers bloom year-round and farms get two or three crops a year.

There are two dry seasons, June through September and about a month at Christmas.  The two wet seasons however are not really all that wet.  Even in this wet season, weeks can go by without rain.

Otavalo market is the largest indigenous market in South America featuring… wool, cotton  and alpaca scarves and sweaters, homespun cotton pants, blankets and almost anything else that can be made on a loom was for sale, as well as simple wooden toys and handmade stuffed animals.

San Pablo lake is one of the largest in the area and is  less than two miles southeast of Otavalo.   Mt Imbabura rises from the San Pablo Lake on the opposite side of Otavalo in a succession of steeply pitched farm fields, topped by rocky slopes that disappear into the clouds.

Ecuador-Lake-Property

View from San Pablo Lake property for sale.

The Lake runoff forms the Peguche River which flows a short distance until it feeds Peguche Waterfall. This waterfall is considered sacred in pre-Inca times and used today for infant baptism. This then flows through a park eucalyptus grove into the  weavers’ village of Peguche.  The falls are  still celebrated at the beginning of “Inti Raymi”, (sun festival) when thousands of people visit them to take the “Baño Sagrado” or sacred bath as part of a purification ceremony.

Merri and I have been conducting real estate tours in this area for a decade and rarely do we find properties on San Pablo Lake for sale so I was delighted when this request for advertisement came through.

“Dear Gary,  My name is Patricia Portilla Boling, I read your emails with great interest as I am originally from Quito, Ecuador, but have lived in the US,  since my father accepted a job with the World Bank in Washington DC.   Though we have been in the US for a long time, we kept few properties in Ecuador. One of them is on San Pablo Lake, Otavalo. This is water front property and is very beautiful.    We are interested in selling this property and ask if it is possible to adevrtise this property with you.   I hope that this finds you and your family doing well that I hear back from you in this regard.

Here are the details of this lakefront property for sale.

22,000 square meters (about 5.43 ares) with house. The land can be used for business, home, or a lake house.

Located 58 miles from the Capital, Quito which is 4 hrs. by plane from Miami, Florida.

There is fishing, hunting, boating, sightseeing, camping and hiking in the area.

THE PROPERTY HAS A COMPLETE INFRASTRUCTURE

The house is fully furnished and was built in the 1970’s  with 2,895 square feet construction in 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 2 living rooms, 2 dining rooms, kitchen/nook area, game room, porch and balcony. The  care taker quarters are attached, plus a garage (for boats and car). The land includes 900 plus feet of lake front.

Ecuador Beach Property – Montanita

Our last three messages are part of a series on Ecuador beach property.

Today the series continues and shows Ecuador beach property that appeals to surfers.

Yesterday’s message saw how Crucita has the best parasailing in Ecuador.

ecuador-beach-property

Here is a shot I took of a parasailer over Crucita’s coast.

Montanita has the best surfing.

Here is a shot of a surfer at Montanita at www.globalsurfers.com

ecuador-beach-property

I have added  a stronger buy signal for Ecuador beach property from Salinas to Esmeraldas and today we’ll focus on Montanita which is south of Manta and marked A on the excerpt of this Ecuador map at http://www.maplandia.com

Ecuador-beach-montanita

Those who have been reading our messages for any length of time know that I have focused my efforts on the middle portion of Ecuador’s beach from Manta to Bahia in the province of Manabi.

You can see why I consider Manta the key to Ecuador beach growth here.

One facet I love about Ecuador beach property is that one can still afford fine detail in construction.

Take for example the round windows in the stair well of the condos I bought in San Clemente.

ecuador-beach-property

Each…

ecuador-beach-crucita

window…

ecuador-beach-crucita

has a hardwood frame with hand carving that…

ecuador-beach-crucita

is unique in each…

ecuador-beach-property

condo.   Every condo has…

ecuador-beach-property

a different carving.

See more on why I like these San Clemente beach condos any why I have invested in here.

However there are many other great Ecuador beach areas I would like to share so I asked a few of the many contacts, up and down the coast, to tell us more about the beaches where they are in Ecuador.

Today we look south of Manta at Montanita … the village on the other end of the long  crescent beach.

Here is a shot taken by Mike Sager, an American who lives in Montanita Ecuador.

Ecuador-beach-montanita

Mike shares his thoughts about Montanita Euador below.

Montanita Ecuador  Malibu South…Way South!

By Mike Sager

I am looking down on a stretch of beach that will make any beachcomber smile from ear to ear…eight miles of wonderland just waiting to be explored.   You say “I want to play in those waves though”…gotcha’ covered on that also.  This beach has a gradual sloping sandy bottom that lets you walk out over 100 yards before being up to your chest in water and NO riptide.  Grab your boogie board, surf board or just romp in the waves.

Imagine cruising down Highway 1 and approaching Malibu when a home catches your eye, but the figure $5,000,000 goes through your mind…back to reality.

Now take that same drive on the stretch of beach I mentioned above and you see a similar home on the beach and the reality on this beach is $200,000…not five million dollars.

Life is Good in Ecuador.

This stretch of beach is in Olon, Ecuador.  I call it Malibu Beach because it has miles of beach homes and estates on the sand.

The best thing is that there are NO high rise condos nor will there ever be.  There is a three story building restriction on this beach so you see nothing but beautiful homes and beach cottages (with a mix of fishermen’s homes…that are disappearing slowly).

Okay it’s not quite Highway 1 in California and that’s a GOOD thing.

You don’t have all that traffic nor tons of people on the beaches here.  This place is sort of a hidden paradise.  Oh yeah, people know about it, but in limited numbers.

I grew up in Huntington Beach, California and even back in the sixties you would have to watch where you put your foot while trying to part the crowds in order to get to the waves.

You have NO problem like that here…even on big holiday weekends you can meander the beach and find your own “spot in the sand” without being stepped on, crowding others or fighting to protect your beach towel’s “spot in the sand”.

Come lunchtime we stroll down to Lolita’s Cabana on the beach and dine on the freshest seafood that has ever crossed your palate.  I share with people that if you’re eating seafood here…it was swimming less than 24 hours ago (more like a few hours ago).

Sitting with your feet in the sand, a cold beer in your hand and a huge plate of fresh grilled mahi mahi in front of you will set you back $3.50.  It’s like a scene out of one of those Corona commercials, but this is REAL living in Ecuador.

Catch a little hammock time after lunch (which I have found to be the “Ultimate Stress Relief System”) and then once lunch has settled make for the water.  You can sea kayak, boogie board, surf, swim or just let the waves chase you back to your beach towel…you choose and enjoy.

Here are delegates of our real estate tour near Montantia in a little shack restaurant…

ecuador-beach-property

entrance…

Probably the best part of the day though is when that big orange ball is heading for it’s dunkin’ into the ocean.  The sunsets here are phenomenal and beyond words.  Watching that globe slowly drop into the water is a very soothing and tranquil part of the day.  I have even seen that green flash people talk about a few times as the last little sliver disappears for the day. …Life is Good in Ecuador…come see for yourself.

Surfers’ Beach.

Ecuador-beach-montanita

Montanita Weather

The best weather is from mid December through May here.  Sunny days are the norm and temps between 75 and 85 everyday are waiting for you.  The water is also perfect to be in for hours with NO wet suit.  From the end of May till November you have more overcast days, but actually very little rain.

I grew up in Southern California and it rained more there than here.  Also temps
during the off months is still a pleasant 65 to 75 everyday.  So I share
with people that the “bad weather” is actually not that bad at all.

Remember there are NO severe weather patterns for the coast of Ecuador
(no hurricanes, monsoons, typhoons…and no tsunamis to date).

Montanita Access

The best way to get here is to fly into Guayaquil.  You can be on the
beach in Montanita with a 2 1/2 hour ride from Guayaquil.  If you want to
check out Salinas (what I call “Little Miami without the Crime”), you can
be there in as little as an hour and half.

Montanita Accommodations

When visiting the Montanita/Olon beaches you have a plethora of places to
choose from for lodging.  Those with the hearty “stay up and party all
night” approach can choose from a number of hostals and hosterias in the
heart of Montanita.  There’s the Funky Monkey, Casa Blanca, Tiki Limbo to
name a few.  They start at $8 a night with private bath, but if you are
here on the weekend get ready to ROCK until sun rise in that section of
town.

Just a few blocks away and quieter is Charo’s Hostal.  It is a newly remodeled building with pool, bar, restaurant and sits right on the beach.  It is also home to the “Best Burger in Montanita”…maybe all of Ecuador.  The rates at Charo’s start at $25 a night with clean and comfortable rooms (all the rooms are clean here…just some are noisier than others).

If you wander over to the Olon side of the point then you have less choices, but MUCH more solitude and tranquility.  There is the El Retiro up on the hill top with sweeping views of the Pacific.  They offer 12 various habitations and start at $25 a night.  They also have a pool, zip line (across the tree tops for the adventurous), restaurant and small zoo of local animals including a puma and exotic birds.  You can also find private homes to rent on the beach from $75 and up per night.

Younger crowd.

Ecuador-beach-montanita

Montanita Restaurants

When your stomach starts growling you are going to love the choices for
dining in Montanita and Olon.  All of the above mentioned
hostals/hosterias have great restaurants with meals starting at $2.50 and
I mean MEALS…you won’t go away wishing for more to eat (I guarantee
that).

There is Marea’s for some of the best pizza anywhere and Por Que No also serves up a tasty pie if you are in the mood.

One of the things I love about Ecuador is when you order a bottle of beer you can have a frosty 22 ounce bottle of Pilsener brought to you for as little as a
buck!!  (That is almost two 12 ounce bottles in ONE for a BUCK..and it’s
a tasty brew).

If you are on the Olon side of the point then you have to go see Pablo and Lolita at “Lolita’s Cabana” on the beach.  They serve some of the best sea food dishes I have ever eaten.  This little hut directly on the beach is a scene for a Corona commercial or postcard.  You dine with your toes in the sand under little palapa covered tables.

A grilled mahi mahi lunch will cost you $3.00 and a big bowl of shrimp ceviche is only $5.00.  I can attest that the bowl of ceviche you get would cost you more to prepare yourself than they charge.  It is heaped with freshly caught shrimp that melt in your mouth and everyone comments that “this is the best ceviche I have ever eaten”.

Gary-with-roses

Here I am with 250 fresh Ecuador roses I had delivered for Merri’s birthday.

Merri and I love Ecuador for the warmth and friendliness in the hearts of its people. We also love Ecuador’s beauty.  When an opportunity to send Ecuador roses and raise money for the poor occurred earlier this year, we grabbed the chance.

I wrote about the roses, made a special offer and sold over 5,000 roses that raised $2,000 for our Land of the Sun Foundation that helps Ecuador’s poor. The money was used to provide schooling for gifted indigenous children and to buy a  InFocus projector used in our free English classes for Ecuadorian children that the foundation provides.

So we offered Ecuador Christmas roses and sold over 9,000 raising $3,660 for LOTS!

This is a batch of 100 fresh Ecuador roses that Merri and I enjoyed earlier this year.

Dozens-of-roses

Premium Quality Roses

Though this is not the lowest price for roses you will see in the Mother’s Day season, these roses are special, not like anything offered in a store or even at most florists. These are premium roses with extra large heads that open fully.

Fresher Quality Roses

Most roses go from Ecuador to Miami by air and are stored in Miami then shipped by truck until they sit in a store.

Here are some of the fresh Ecuador roses at our hotel Meson de las Flores.

dozens-roses

Environmentally Clean Roses

The roses your receive are certified by Veriflora. The VERIFLORA seal is a real, green program that regularly spot check farms for ecologically sound systems that include:

Experience the warmth of the people and beauty of Ecuador as you celebrate the new year…the freshest…best and best smelling roses…as you help the environment and the poor by having them delivered into your and your loved one’s homes.

Ecuador Amazon Herbal Tour

Ecuador’s Amazon is rich in herbs  as you’ll learn on our Ecuador Amazon Herbal Tour, May 22-24, 2009.

Enroll here $399.  Enroll here for a couple $499

Studying Ecuador herbs is fun.

You see them regularly in Native Ecuador markets are ancient rites of human endeavor. Meetings like this one high in the Ecuador Andes have taken place almost since civilization began as have imports and exports. I closed my eyes and felt the energy, the deep, inner excitement that marketplaces bring and how they thrill. Such wonderful agitation! Ecuadorian men and women, different religions, cultures and ages. People from near and far. Explosions of color. Mutterings and hawking in Quichua, Spanish, and occasional English working their babble of exchange. Ecuadorian babies bobbing on mother’s backs, children working, playing and racing among the stalls. Adults serious in their cares. Explosions of sights, smells and sounds create this purposeful cacophony true to only one mission, to trade and sell, import, export!

Exploring the markets is a great way to see Amazon herbs but the best way to know them is to actually visit the marker.

So for years we have been helping readers go to the Amazon and learn how they are actually grown.

Alberto Verdezoto (a long term friend and guide as well as an expert on herbal medicine from the Amazon) will guide a tour to the Amazon and the Flora Sana finca this May.

ecuador-information-tours

Here is Alberto leading one of our tours.

You could not be in better hands.  Alberto was in the Ecuador travel business for more than 10 years and has been working in the Amazon with herbs for many years. He is the distributor for the Flora Sana Amazon products.

Here is Alberto (left) leading our staff at International Living’s Ecuador seminar in March.

ecuador-tours

Alberto helped develop  the entire line of organic Amazon health products to export from Ecuador under the “Flora Sana” (Flower Healing) brand.

Ecuador Herbal Products

Stimusan Herb Pack
Dulcamara Cream
Dulcamara Liquid
Dulcamara Shampoo
Dulcamara Soap
Sweet Sleep
Sangria Drago
Organic Chocolate

There are many more Ecuador export products in the Flora Sana line.

We are working with Alberto to obtain dealers for these products.

This line has special interest in the health food supplement field. Take the Dulcamaras range for example.

Merri and I have enormous energy vitality and enthusiasm, running the farm and our publishing business. Many are amazed at what we get done. At a time when many are thinking retirement, we feel we are just getting started. Plus despite our heavy work load and travel schedule we seem to be getting younger…yet this is a time when many of our friends are rapidly deteriorating both in energy and appearance.

We feel that one reason is that we regularly take the Dulcamaras food supplement which is a pure Amazonian plant extract. When we began using this product years ago, one MD told us that he used this plant extract to help his cancer patients. The doctor explained that Dulcamaras is not a cancer cure but so enhances the immune system that many patients cure themselves. He explained that many of his patients also used Dulcamaras to enhance their vitality and that it has anti-aging qualities that could be enjoyed.

We decided to try it ourselves. After a couple of days we felt tiredness but then found ourselves feeling more energy. My weight started dropping. Muscle mass and skin tone built though we did not add any new exercises.

We began sharing Dulcamaras extract years ago with a few of our friends and heard back similar stories from those who were well. From others we heard incredible stories.

We read a medical study from the University of Miami Medical School entitled “INDUCTION OF CASPASE-MEDIATED APOPTOSIS AND INHIBITION OF PROSTATE TUMOR GROWTH AND METASTASIS BY A PLANT EXTRACT”.

The study was done by Deven S. Dandekar1*, Vinata B. Lokeshwar1, Edwin Cevallos. 2, and Bal L. Lokeshwar1. 1Dept. of Urology and Sylvester Cancer Center, Univ. of Miami, Miami, Fl. 2Tumor Institute, Quito, Ecuador. *d.dandekar@miami.edu

The study began “INTRODUCTION: Most cancer drugs are derived from plants and many more are yet to be discovered (1). An orally active, aqueous plant extract (Dulcamara sp) was tested for its anti-tumor properties on prostate cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.”

The conclusion of that study was that the Dulcamaras extract tested was a potent orally active anti-neoplastic agent, which primarily affects caspase-mediated apoptosis and inhibits metastasis by inhibition of hyaluronidase, an ECM-degrading enzyme implicated in tumor angiogenesis and metastasis.

We saw one friend with Lymphoma have a miraculous cure in 18 days. Another who was quadriplegic with MS had such a recovery that she can now stand alone. But mostly the stories were about feeling better, having more energy, sex drive, clearer mind, strength, endurance and feeling and looking younger.

Dulcamaras has great potential to be of assistance in diseases in which the immune system is implicated as a contributing factor. The medical doctor in Ecuador has gathered data which indicates possible value in conditions of over active and under active immune system such as AIDS, Allergic States, Colitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Hepatitis, and Lupus like diseases.

We do not believe that Dulcamaras is a panacea and it is not intended to diagnosis, treat or cure any condition nor should it be viewed as a substitute for orthodox medical treatments. But it is a powerful plant-derived nutritional supplement which may safely be used for longevity, more energy and better health plus as a complementary treatment to assist the body’s natural healing processes.

Here is more about Ecuador Dulcamaras Export Opportunity.

Common names: Donkey Ears, Life Plant.

Scientific Name: Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri Raym.-Hamet & H. Perrier

Synonym: Bryophyllum gastonis-bonnieri

Family: Crassulaceae

Origin of the Plant:

Kalanchoe or Bryophyllum gastonis bonnieri is originated from Madagascar . It was known and used as a medicine by the ancient Egyptians. The plant was brought to the Amazon during the time of the rubber boom at the end of the 19th century.

The Dulcamara plants used to make Flora Sana natural products are organically grown in their gardens located on the left bank of the Puyo river, next to the Amazonian town of Puyo, the capital of the Pastaza province, in Ecuador. A plant takes 6 to 8 months to mature and be ready for harvest.

The plant is then used to make tinctures and creams.

The Flora Sana Dulcamara Tincture is used here in Ecuador for inflammation of prostate, tumor in ovaries, uterus, brain, kidneys, breast, cysts, leukemia, kidney and gall stones, hemorrhoids, bronchitis, asthma and sinusitis, depressed immune system. Of course it cannot be exported from Ecuador or offered in other countries for these purposes unless it has been approved by relevant authorities.

There has been a study at University of Miami Medical School on the effects of this plant. See http://www.med.miami.edu/mnbws/Dandekar106.html

The Dulcamara Cream is created by blending pure dulcamara water extract with a base cream imported from France. The cream has protective, nourishing and moisturizing properties. A small quantity of essential oil of lavender is added to complement its nutritional properties and therapeutic uses, especially for acne, allergies, burns, diaper rash, and general skin care. The cream can be applied on the face and to all body parts.

The cream is used in Ecuador for burns, allergies, varicose veins and ulcers, diabetic, baldness, warts, vitiligo, acne, pimple, blackhead, wrinkles, hemorrhoids, psoriasis, diaper rash, dermatitis and general skin care. Again this cannot be exported form Ecuador or offered in other countries for these specific purposes.

This is just one of many herbs you’ll learn about because Alberto also works with CORPEI, the Ecuadorian government organization dedicated to developing export opportunities for handicrafters up to big organizations. They approached Alberto to see if he wanted to be involved in an international project to promote the development of businesses and organizations involved with producing and marketing natural products from the Andes and Amazon.

Ecuador Easter Lilies

Fresh Ecuador Easter lilies are now available to be delivered to your home in the USA.

Over the past years, hundreds of Gary Scott readers have had fresh Ecuador roses delivered direct from Ecuador to their home by Fedex. For this Easter holiday you can have the option of Ecuador lilies or fresh Ecuador roses.

Last year Merri surprised me on Father’s Day not with roses but 25 fresh Ecuador Lilies! I was thrilled at their beauty, aroma and endurance. Here are those Ecuador lilies in our home.

ecuador-easter-lilies

We asked our flower supplier if he could deliver Ecuador Easter lilies and he wrote:  The price for lilies is $65 per box.  Each box has 25 oriental lilies.  These are the bigger Easter lilies. We have pinks, pink bicolors and whites.

As with fresh Ecuador roses, we have added $19 to the price so 25 Ecuador Easter lilies is $84.

We will donate $20 to help Ecuador’s poor for each order. Just as we do with Ecuador roses…  we lose a couple dollars on each purchase.

You can see why we are happy to donate this at Ecuador rose thanks.

You can order Ecuador Easter Lilies here.

Fedex will deliver them directly to you in the USA from Ecuador.  We regret that due to customs difficulties. Fedex will not deliver them in Canada.

Open them. If you are not satisfied that these are truly remarkable lilies, give them back to the Fedex driver and let me know. I’ll give you a full refund.

To assure the refund you must inspect the flowers with Fedex when they are delivered. If you are not satisfied, they must be returned at the time of delivery.

I will forward your order to Roberto Ribadeneira, the rose plantation coordinator who will follow your order from the farm to your home.  He will first email you to make sure you get the color choice you like best and coordinate your delivery time.

If you do not respond to the plantation to indicate a color choice and time, the flower growers will send the best available color combination for the first possible delivery.

As mentioned this is not a deal that helps my pocketbook. I am paying $60 to deliver these roses to you. I donate $20 to the charity. I pay my credit card discount. At the $79 price I am down two or three dollars for each 50 roses. That’s okay…the cause is worthy and Merri and I will be much richer in the heart.

We cannot accept  Ecuador Easter lily orders after 12 noon Tuesday April 2,2009.  Delivery will be April 7, 2009.

Ecuador Air Fare Excerpts

There is good news on Ecuador air fares. Right now Lan which has regular flights to Ecuador is offering some Guayaquil and Quito air fare special deals. We’ll look at these air  fares in a moment.

We are certainly very happy to be here after reading this report from Richard Goebel, our manager at our North Carolina farm.

Ecuador-air-fare

It was cold this AM.  -4 degrees and with the wind chill -20 degrees F. I broke up a fight between a hawk, a chicken and the rooster. Only feathers lost.
though the small black chicken is gone. Plus we lost two mallards last night or one male and a female. The cold is bringing out the predators. Another exciting day on the farm. Your friend Richard

We were happy to learn that the little black chicken was found. She ran off when the hawk came and is now sleeping in the pump house with our cat Alice.

Before looking at that Ecuador air fare war remember you can get fresh Ecuador valentine roses shipped to your home.

Second,  here is an excerpt from Yesterday’s password protected multi currency courses that shows why  Ecuador may be a good bet now and why using the special February low cost Ecuador air fare may be wise.

The multi currency excerpt begins when a reader asks:

Why not just keep your money in gold/silver?  All fiat currency will crash sooner or later.

Here is my reply.

Re gold. I’ll have a friend who is one if the world’s gold experts do a feature password protected lesson on the state of gold shortly.  I have often thought of just buying gold myself and forgetting all this work of keeping up.  If for no other reason this has such simplicity. However, though history shows that gold always adjusts for inflation eventually… history also shows that gold can have huge price swings that may last for decades.

I know one client who cashed out his portfolio and just bought  gold about 30 years ago when the price was $860 an ounce.  So we have to ask, when is sooner or later?
I know another client who bought a lot of gold and then had it confiscated when he tried to cross a border with it.  His crime… just having  a lot of gold as far as we can tell.

Plus if you live outside of a major city how often do you have to run to a metropolis to sell some gold?    How about the security risks?

I have a little more faith in the resiliency of mankind every day.  Sometimes when we have more turmoil than expected, it is hard to see how things can get better. Yet in every decade, the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, there has been a crash and after the crash, a recovery.

I am not a gold bug  or real estate or share bug.   I am a VALUE BUG.  I like value and find it exceedingly hard to know gold’s real value.

I also like diversification and have created a hedge for each potential situation…for things to get better or worse.  So I have some gold. have some equities…but not all that much.

It will be interesting to see how everything unfolds.  For now I’ll not buy too many Amero futures or blocks of gold.   Nothing to date suggests to me that this downturn is any different than any others.

I do keep some gold socked away. I do live on a farm where I can feed myself in case of an extreme global currency dislocation.  The farm however is a lifestyle situation and makes no comment on my belief on global affairs.

I have not abandoned my core belief that there are four ways to fight inflation and currency turmoil.  My portfolio is based on these beliefs.

History suggests that we can always succeed in:
#1: Our own business.
#2: Real estate
#3: Commodities
#4: Equities (ownership of other people’s business)

You can read this entire password protected lesson as a multi currency subscriber.

Now the low Ecuador air fare. Here is an excerpt from today’s password protected Ecuador Living report.

Lan Ecuador seems to be starting an Ecuador air fare war.  For example their site says, if you fly down Saturday February 7, 2009 on flight EL517, you leave Miami  at  5:10pm  and arrive  in Quito at  9:20pm.

You can attend our Beyond Logic and International Business Made EZ courses, then return Monday February 16, on flight XL516 leaving Quito at 9:20 am and reaching Miami at 1:25. The entire fare INCLUDING TAX  is only $421.51.

Plus right now Lan let’s travelers bring a third suitcase to Ecuador FREE!

This is a good time to visit Ecuador because the price of oil is low and Ecuador’s oil dominates what happens in Ecuador.

This low oil price and two other important factors canhelp Ecuador real estate prices rise.

When Ecuador’s currency was the sucre, it crashed in 1999.  Real estate prices simply rose as the sucre fell.  The instability caused b the currency collapse created some great real estate bargains because Ecuadorians rushed out of the sucre into property.

Now the low oil price can boost real estate again…plus there are two other boosts.

The first real estate boost come in the form of Cholo Boys. This is the name for Ecuadorians who left Ecuador during its 1999 economic plight… manly to Italy and Spain. They earn there, return and invest in real estate.  Now they are returning to Ecuador. Even Ecuadorans in the US are returning to Ecador…beause life here is good.

The other upwards pressure on Ecuador real estate is the Nort American expat market. Hoards of gringos are coming down for a warmer and easier low cost lifestyle.  I know. Our hotel is full almost all the time now.

All of this buying pressure turns Ecuador real estate into an international commodity. This makes the prie of real estate ere less vulnerable to local economic declines.

I believe this enough that I bought an extra unit at Vistazul when I heard the news that Correa might default on Ecuador bonds.   I own more condos there than anyone else and may buy more…six condos and an apartment in the hotel itself…plus two of my daughters each (on my advice) bought a condo.  Plus I just made an offer on more property in Cotacachi.

Due to the drop in the price of oil, President Correa recently said that he plans to restrict imports to help stem the outflow of dollars and offset the tumble in oil, the country’s biggest export.  He cannot afford to do it and as a trained economist he knows this.

Oil prices are now lower than in 1999, when adjusted for inflation.    The low oil price in the 1990s helped push Ecuador into default and caused a couple dozen banks to fail. This was when the country dropped its currency, the sucre, in favor of the dollar.

Correa plans to revise investment plans and trim spending on public-sector salaries and pension plans to help cope with the global economic slump.   He is cutting back on minimum wage raises and  subsidies  for the poor.

In short, times may become tougher in Ecuador. This means those who have money to invest will find the greatest value!

Visa Change,

When you come down be sure to check visa rles. Recently the visa attorney we refer readers to told us  that there are new Ecuador visa regulations. He said there is a lot of confusion as two government agencies wrestle with each other for control over immigration.

Many people do not need a visa if they are staying less than six months (180 days) a year. When Americans, Canadians and British enter Ecuador, they are automatically given a 90 day T-3 visa. This is the visa that Merri and I always use.

This T-3 visa is non-renewable.  You must leave by the expiry date.

Be careful about this.  In the past there was just a modest fine.  If you stayed over your due date you could pay a small amount extra when you left.   This is no longer true.   The fine is $200…but there is another catch we just learned.

We talked to a friend who overstayed his 90 days and paid  the $ 200 fine when he left in December. He flew back last week, was stopped at the airport and deported back to the United States because he did not know this rule!

You can learn the new rule and read a password protected, complete report about how to get visas as an Ecuador Living subscriber.

Plus the Ecuador Living report shows  how to have Social Security give you a letter of proof so you can have an Ecuador residence visa.

Learn about being an Ecuador Living subscriber.

Until next message, good Ecuador Living to you.

Quito Shopping

Quito shopping is excellent. In fact Quito is one of my favorite cities.

Few events excite me like watching the Quito dawn.

quito-shopping

The city reveals herself in a purple haze…waking slowly…

quito-shopping

but with great energy.  Honored by the world as a Heritage City, Quito is ancient, rich…powerful city with every amenity.

quito-shopping

Home to more than a million people, Quito has abounding wealth…and great shopping.

quito-shopping

This makes our new column at this site and its author, Ray Manna, a special pleasure to introduce.  Ray Manna writes in his column “Travels with Ray, Beyond Cotacachi” about Quito shopping and as you will see…much more.

Quito Shopping – Travels with Ray, Beyond Cotacachi

As lovely as our tranquil little mountain home in Cotacachi is, it helps to know that in an hour and a half one can find oneself in the midst of a metropolitan shopping experience that rivals some of the best. Today I arranged a shopping tour for friends and clients of our country inn, Meson de las Flores.

After a wonderful breakfast we piled into our van and headed off to Quito. We drove over the beautifully cobbled and landscaped roads leading out of the canton.

Our driver, Julio, was his usual gracious self as he politely described the wonders unfolding before us as we wound our way through the majesty of the Andes. The volcanoes and mountains and tended slopes are breathtaking. Lago del San Pablo and its village are remarkable in their beauty. The lake is huge and blue and surrounded with a perfect balance of agriculture and buildings. It evokes a
feeling for me of the Italian Alps. The lake backs onto a gentle which ten becomes
the steep volcanic slope of Mt. Imbabura.

After this comes the village of Tabacundo. This is the heart of Ecuador’s industry in the cultivation and shipping of Roses worldwide. Ecuador is a country of many contrasts, and this is but one of the many happy surprises that await in our region of Cotacachi.

After Tabacundo, we traverse an interesting and beautiful treed area,  Guayallabamba. This area is filled with Caccia trees. It is very similar to Kenya in its feel…a bit dryer and with a more rugged feeling. They grow Cherimoya
here, and you can buy a basketful for five bucks. If you have not had
Cherimoya, let me tell you simply, that I consider it to be one of the
premium fruits on this planet!

Winding our way through the villages and eucalyptus groves that line the highway we found ourselves traversing the outermost suburbs of Quito in an area called Carapungo. Before us lay a beautiful community gracing the slopes that lead finally into Quito. This area is newer and is quite breathtaking to see.

Just a bit after this we arrived at our first destination, El Condado.

This is Quito’s newest shopping mall, and it’s truly a wonder to behold. The food courts alone will blow you away. I’ve never seen such a variety of food offerings in my life. The mall has an entire wall of glass on the fourth floor providing a full sweeping view of the stunning Pichincha beyond. The architecture is tiled and beautiful and everywhere you look it has the feel of a state of the art endeavor with art and lighting and video screens with imagery. Quito is as serious about expressing themselves in this modern format as well as they are through their traditions.

Well, what can I say? The girls couldn’t pass without stopping at the many shoe stores. My opinion was relied upon heavily and I’m pretty sure those boots and flats are going to turn some heads. Jo, a recent transplant from Dallas scored the foxiest half boots that are elegant but not over done. The leather is butter soft, with a jaunty strap around the ankle and shaft that is relaxed and feminine. Barbara, a
recent transplant from Miami, found a pair of flats in a subtle metallic and print that had a Chanel feel to them.

Next came the fabric store. Oh my god!! Talk about a collective freak out. I found a white sheer tone on tone fabric with a combination of bold shimmering bands and subtle accent banding that would look great with the gentle Andean breezes wafting through open windows on one of our typical Spring-like days. The velvets and jacquards were amazing and many for only $13 a yard. Finally, we found
an incredible midnight blue crepe with a gold metallic motif of Moorish design. We all just stood there, jaws practically open in amazement. These mountains, this weather, this beautiful architecture, and window treatments!! Get my drift?? I can’t wait!!

We continued on, Julio and I dutifully toting the growing number of prized purchases. We hit the Todo Hogar (Everything for the Home) store, a place where you can totally outfit your apartment or home. Barbara is going to be hosting the holiday for a bunch of us in her new Diana Carrasco designed home that she has rented for $600 a month. This is going to be one fun adventure. Barbara is a great cook, and I am looking forward to sampling her special version of holiday turkey.

Oh, the turkey will be fresh of course. And locally grown. That’s the way things work here.

There is so much more things I can tell you about the day, but these are some of the highlights. We finished up the day a bit tired, but with a van full of kitchen furnishings, new shoes, art supplies, fine French cosmetics, books, and a couple of cases of red and white wine from Super Maxi. Barbara opened up a couple of bottles of wine and we all had wine and cheese and crackers together in the courtyard at Meson after our long “hard” day. We found ourselves gathering in friendship and laughter here in our special home in Cotacatchi.

Come down and see what it’s about.

We’d like to share it with you!

Till next time, Ray Manna, Meson de las Flores, Land of the Sun Foundation, over and out.
