Earn in Ecuador

Many readers write asking for ways to earn in Ecuador.

They want to come to Ecuador… but need to earn here to stay.

This is a global problem.  More and more people…especially those of my  era…near the age where Westerners think they should retire will need to earn more in Ecuador or somewhere.   The economic downturn has ruined their pension and/or savings.

There is a lot of good in this.  Most of us should want to keep on earning… regardless of where we go or live, Ecuador or not.

Our friend and adviser,  Blaine Watson,  recently sent me an article entitled  “Author/physician Shigeaki Hinohara” written by Judit Kawaguchi that explains why it is good to remain employed well beyond what the norm calls retirement years.

The article says:  At the age of 97 years and 4 months, Shigeaki Hinohara is one of the world’s longest-serving physicians and educators. Hinohara’s magic touch is legendary: Since 1941 he has been healing patients at St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo and teaching at St. Luke’s College of Nursing. After World War II, he envisioned a world-class hospital and college springing from the ruins of Tokyo; thanks to his pioneering spirit and business savvy, the doctor turned these institutions into the nation’s top medical facility and nursing school. Today he serves as chairman of the board of trustees at both organizations. Always willing to try new things, he has published around 150 books since his 75th birthday, including one “Living Long, Living Good” that has sold more than 1.2 million copies. As the founder of the New Elderly Movement, Hinohara encourages others to live a long and happy life, a quest in which no role model is better than the doctor himself.

In the article it explains that the Doctor says that energy comes from feeling good, not from eating well or sleeping a lot.  He says to plan ahead. His schedule is already booked ahead until 2014 with lectures and usual hospital work. In 2016 he plans to attend the Tokyo Olympics and says there is no need to ever retire. The doctor  but if one must, it should be a lot later than 65. The current retirement age was set at 65 half a century ago, when the average life-expectancy in Japan was 68 years and only 125 Japanese were over 100 years old. Today, Japanese women live to be around 86 and men 80, and we have 36,000 centenarians in our country. In 20 years Japan will have about 50,000 people over the age of 100.

Hinohara says. Share what you know.  He  gives 150 lectures a year, some for 100 elementary-school children, others for 4,500 business people.  He usually speaks for 60 to 90 minutes, standing, to stay strong.

This is why Merri, our webmaster and I have created a new course on how to build a web business with a webmaster.  Here is a special offer on this new course

Delegates have been gaining from our Ecuador courses on how to earn in Ecuador or elsewhere… in money and more.

Take Todd Smith as an example.  Todd attended one of our courses on how to earn via internet publishing. He started his own website. This is a photo on his home page.

earn-in-Ecuador

This is a worthwhile read because authenticity and transparency are two of the most important factors for earnings success in your own business.

Knowing our clients can have a dramatic impact on earnings and there is a growing trend of people wanting to see the whole picture.

For example, when people previously went for a cup of coffee they wanted the best coffee, served in the least expensive, fastest, most convenient way.  Now more and more buyers want more.  They want to know where the coffee was grown, what type of coffee… what did the growing process do to the environment…  how were the processors and growers of the coffee treated?

They ask what will the coffee do to the body and environment? Was the cup organic? Is the cup recycled and so forth?

We can see how this is affecting the market place in a Reuters news release some time back entitled, Starbucks Seeks More Socially Responsible Coffee.

This article told how Starbucks had launched an aggressive plan to ensure that its coffee came from environmentally friendly farms paying workers a fair wage.

They were setting up strict rules on everything from forestation to pesticides to labor practices.

Starbucks made this move because they have suffered bad publicity from coffee drinkers who wanted more than just a cup of coffee.

People today:

*See a bigger picture.
*Consume and invest in values not just material value.
*See connections.
*Are highly sensitive to being mislead.
*Are willing to pay a bit more for a whole product.
*Want authenticity.
*Are getting organized.

Micki and George Jacobs attended one of our courses on how to earn in Ecuador and globally just wrote:

We have finally gotten our website up and running for selling Bayardo’s paintings. Our webmaster (like you, he’s our son-in-law), made it attractive but simple to use. If you could mention it sometime in your news letter to get some interest started, George and I would really appreciate it. We really hope to sell enough of them to place regular orders, and maybe even increase the number of paintings ordered if sales take off.   Thanks for any help you can offer us. We hope to see you and Merri when we are down there in late March/early April.
Hugs to both of you, Micki.

Micki and George fell in love with Ecuador, and wanted to buy original art.   The watercolors of Bayardo Monteros stood out above everything else… unbelievable detail in the feathers of the birds he paints was captivating.

Here is an example of his work.

They decided it would be a great idea to regularly buy small batches of his paintings to sell in the U.S. Not only would the extra sales vastly improve Bayardo’s situation and expose his work to a larger audience, but it would also give others a chance to purchase an original piece of Ecuadorian art without the expense of traveling to Ecuador. They started this website, EcuadorianWildlife.com

Even more important than the money is the great pleasure one can gain.  Malcolm Gladwell’s new book, “Outliers-The Story of Success”, explains what numerous studies have shown.  Those who have a fulfilling business are happier and healthier as well as better off financially.

The three keys for a business to be satisfying are:

#1: Autonomy.

#2: Complexity

#3: A direct relationship between effort and reward.

This is why earning in Ecuador or globally offers such satisfaction.  This method of earning fits all three requirements.

So if you have discovered that due to, what seems like misfortune, you have to work more… be happy. You may live longer, healthier and happier. There are more explanations about why it is good to remain active are below.

Until next message, good earning to you.

Dr Hinohara aso said about longevity:  My inspiration is Robert Browning’s poem “Abt Vogler.” My father used to read it to me. It encourages us to make big art, not small scribbles. It says to try to draw a circle so huge that there is no way we can finish it while we are alive. All we see is an arch; the rest is beyond our vision but it is there in the distance.

I have copied that poem Abt Vogler below:

1  Would that the structure brave, the manifold music I build,
2  Bidding my organ obey, calling its keys to their work,
3 Claiming each slave of the sound, at a touch, as when Solomon willed
4  Armies of angels that soar, legions of demons that lurk,
5  Man, brute, reptile, fly,–alien of end and of aim,
6  Adverse, each from the other heaven-high, hell-deep removed,–
7  Should rush into sight at once as he named the ineffable Name,
8  And pile him a palace straight, to pleasure the princess he loved!

9  Would it might tarry like his, the beautiful building of mine,
10  This which my keys in a crowd pressed and importuned to raise!
11   Ah, one and all, how they helped, would dispart now and now combine,
12   Zealous to hasten the work, heighten their master his praise!
13   And one would bury his brow with a blind plunge down to hell,
14   Burrow awhile and build, broad on the roots of things,
15   Then up again swim into sight, having based me my palace well,
16   Founded it, fearless of flame, flat on the nether springs.

17   And another would mount and march, like the excellent minion he was,
18   Ay, another and yet another, one crowd but with many a crest,
19   Raising my rampired walls of gold as transparent as glass,
20   Eager to do and die, yield each his place to the rest:
21   For higher still and higher (as a runner tips with fire,
22  When a great illumination surprises a festal night–
23  Outlining round and round Rome’s dome from space to spire)
24  Up, the pinnacled glory reached, and the pride of my soul was in sight.

25   In sight? Not half! for it seemed, it was certain, to match man’s birth,
26   Nature in turn conceived, obeying an impulse as I;
27   And the emulous heaven yearned down, made effort to reach the earth,
28   As the earth had done her best, in my passion, to scale the sky:
29   Novel splendours burst forth, grew familiar and dwelt with mine,
30   Not a point nor peak but found and fixed its wandering star;
31   Meteor-moons, balls of blaze: and they did not pale nor pine,
32   For earth had attained to heaven, there was no more near nor far.

33   Nay more; for there wanted not who walked in the glare and glow,
34   Presences plain in the place; or, fresh from the Protoplast,
35   Furnished for ages to come, when a kindlier wind should blow,
36   Lured now to begin and live, in a house to their liking at last;
37   Or else the wonderful Dead who have passed through the body and gone,
38   But were back once more to breathe in an old world worth their new:
39   What never had been, was now; what was, as it shall be anon;
40   And what is,–shall I say, matched both? for I was made perfect too.

41    All through my keys that gave their sounds to a wish of my soul,
42    All through my soul that praised as its wish flowed visibly forth,
43    All through music and me! For think, had I painted the whole,
44    Why, there it had stood, to see, nor the process so wonder-worth:
45    Had I written the same, made verse–still, effect proceeds from cause,
46    Ye know why the forms are fair, ye hear how the tale is told;
47     It is all triumphant art, but art in obedience to laws,
48    Painter and poet are proud in the artist-list enrolled:–

49   But here is the finger of God, a flash of the will that can,
50   Existent behind all laws, that made them and, lo, they are!
51    And I know not if, save in this, such gift be allowed to man,
52    That out of three sounds he frame, not a fourth sound, but a star.
53    Consider it well: each tone of our scale in itself is nought;
54    It is everywhere in the world–loud, soft, and all is said:
55    Give it to me to use! I mix it with two in my thought:
56    And, there! Ye have heard and seen: consider and bow the head!

57    Well, it is gone at last, the palace of music I reared;
58    Gone! and the good tears start, the praises that come too slow;
59    For one is assured at first, one scarce can say that he feared,
60   That he even gave it a thought, the gone thing was to go.
61    Never to be again! But many more of the kind
62    As good, nay, better, perchance: is this your comfort to me?
63   To me, who must be saved because I cling with my mind
64    To the same, same self, same love, same God: ay, what was, shall be.

65    Therefore to whom turn I but to thee, the ineffable Name?
66    Builder and maker, thou, of houses not made with hands!
67    What, have fear of change from thee who art ever the same?
68    Doubt that thy power can fill the heart that thy power expands?
69    There shall never be one lost good! What was, shall live as before;
70    The evil is null, is nought, is silence implying sound;
71     What was good shall be good, with, for evil, so much good more;
72     On the earth the broken arcs; in the heaven, a perfect round.

73     All we have willed or hoped or dreamed of good shall exist;
74    Not its semblance, but itself; no beauty, nor good, nor power
75    Whose voice has gone forth, but each survives for the melodist
76    When eternity affirms the conception of an hour.
77    The high that proved too high, the heroic for earth too hard,
78    The passion that left the ground to lose itself in the sky,
79    Are music sent up to God by the lover and the bard;
80    Enough that he heard it once: we shall hear it by and by.

81     And what is our failure here but a triumph’s evidence
82    For the fulness of the days? Have we withered or agonized?
83    Why else was the pause prolonged but that singing might issue thence?
84    Why rushed the discords in, but that harmony should be prized?
85    Sorrow is hard to bear, and doubt is slow to clear,
86    Each sufferer says his say, his scheme of the weal and woe:
87    But God has a few of us whom he whispers in the ear;
88    The rest may reason and welcome; ’tis we musicians know.

89     Well, it is earth with me; silence resumes her reign:
90     I will be patient and proud, and soberly acquiesce.
91     Give me the keys. I feel for the common chord again,
92     Sliding by semitones till I sink to the minor,–yes,
93     And I blunt it into a ninth, and I stand on alien ground,
94    Surveying awhile the heights I rolled from into the deep;
95    Which, hark, I have dared and done, for my resting-place is found,
96    The C Major of this life: so, now I will try to sleep.

Cotacachi Real Estate For Sale

Cotacachi and Ecuador real estate prices are becoming higher. Construction material, cement, steel and wood have been skyrocketing in cost.  Plus new duties imposed on imports such as pipe are raising material costs.

Our recent Cotacachi real estate tour looked at a number of Prima Vera II – to IV condos for sale from  $46,500 to $54,500. Here is one of the four new Prima Vera blocks.  This is Prima Vera III.

Bulding costs have forced the developer to raise prices on each building.  The units are identical but each block has a higher price.

Here are the prices now for these Prima Vera units.

Propane is $2.50 for 20 gallon bottle for cooking, heating and hot water.  They use about $5…a month.

Water is $6 a month, electricity $20 a month….broadband $49…condo fees $100…so in all there basics are about $185 a month.

Multi Currency Predictions Feb. 2009

We made several multi currency predictions at our February 2009 International Investing & Business Course in Cotacachi, Ecuador. The investing and business portion concluded yesterday. We are now inspecting Ecuador property.

We used many approaches to process information about how markets and economies might move.

We viewed currencies at the technical level and saw that Jyske Global Asset Management (JGAM) had closed their British pound recommendation.

This is the fine detailed view… the technical end of investing,  Peter Laub of JGAM showed how JGAM had recommended investing in pounds at 1.3750 with a stop loss at 1.3700. Peter explained how the pound dropped to 1.3703 before rising to 1.4500.  JGAM took profit on the backslide to 1.4300.

We looked at economic fundamentals and discussed the February 10, 2009 New York Times article   “Bailout Plan: $2.5 Trillion and a Strong U.S. Hand”  by Edmund  Andrews and Stephen  Labaton  which said:

WASHINGTON — The White House plan to rescue the nation’s financial system, announced on Tuesday by Timothy F. Geithner, the Treasury secretary, is far bigger than anyone predicted and envisions a far greater government role in markets and banks than at any time since the 1930s.

Administration officials committed to flood the financial system with as much as $2.5 trillion — $350 billion of that coming from the bailout fund and the rest from private investors and the Federal Reserve, making use of its ability to print money.

We compared the inflationary impact of this bailout with the deflationary impact of a 20% contraction in the $14 trillion economy.  This looks like a wash that could bring an economic balance at the cost of the US dollar’s parity to  other currencies.

We viewed how seasonality was at work. Over 30 years the Dow has frown 8.16%  overall but all of that growth and more (8.36% per annum average)  have come in in the months of November through April. The average annual growth per annum over thirty years in May  to October is only 0.37%.   In other words… history suggests that every day we move closer to May, the chances of a stock market correction in 2009 diminish.

We viewed the economic cycle and saw that we are reaching the phase of the economic cycle when we should be coming out of cash and bonds and into  shares as:

* Interest rates are down.

* There is a rush for liquidity.

* Employment is growing.

* Uncertainty is high.

multi-currecny-predictions

We looked at the fact that we have plenty of time… no hurry. We can wait and see.  We have time to choose and pick…  the best bargains and values.

We even looked at how the planets and full moon affect investors. There is a historic link in the general trend of world affairs and the the cycles of Jupiter and Saturn.    History suggests that when  these planets are in a good phase it is been auspicious for the world and vice verse.

The cycles of these planets are about 12 years and 30 years which ties into the market cycles we track.

The chart below shows the historical relationship.

We viewed this chart  from a Maharishi Vedic Astrology prediction by Siebelt Meyera in February 1997.

multi-currency-markets

The chart is a bit hard to see here so here is what it reads in the troughs:

1914 Start of WW I

1939 Start f WWII

1962 Cuban Crisis

1973 Yom Kippur War

1997 Economic meltdown in Asia

Since 1991, the cycle has been in their downward trends and reached its lowest in 1997 when Jupiter was debilitated, and in 1998 when Saturn will be debilitated. From 1999 onwards the value will slowly and reach a peak value again between 2012 and 2015.  This suggests a slow recovery over the next three years.

All of this confirmed that we should not expect a quick recovery and reconfirmed our recommendation to do nothing now. Maintain a defensive position and wait for opportunity to present itself.

We reviewed my personal portfolio to see how I am doing this.

Here is the key advice from that course.   Hold off. Wait. Do Not hurry. opportunities abound but we have plenty of time to pick them up. There could be another drop in May before a gradual recovery.  Invest with care… but invest with passion. Do things fulfilling as well as profitable. Enjoy the process as well as the end results.

Ecuador Travel Risk

An Ecuador travel risk is theft.  Blaine Watson just who just conducted our Beyond Logic course just sent this note.

Hey there guys. I miss Ecuador, sitting here in Seattle and it is cold and gray.  One delegate on her way back had her apple laptop, camera and cell phone stolen in the business center at the Radisson in Quito.   No help from the staff on that one. Maybe you should warn people that this kind of thing can happen anywhere and to keep an eye on things.

So be warned. In Ecuador, especially the major cities, pick pockets and thieves work even the major hotels. We have had delegates have purses, cameras and computers stolen from restaurants and other public areas in all the major hotels.

Ecuador tourist areas are a pickpocket risk…especially in Quito’s Marical Sucre area and in Otavalo market on Saturday.

However the good parts of Ecuador overwhelm this risk.

We do not have this problem here in Cotacachi but one must keep an eye on there goods anywhere. I have never been robbed in 14 years in Ecuador because I remain aware.  Yet I had all my Christmas shopping stolen in London, my home, just blocks form my house because I felt to secure.  The point?  There are bad guys out there everywhere… so take care.

There is so much good here that we receive many, many more raves like this below (rather than sad stories) from people who come to Ecuador.  A reader  just sent me this note.

Hi Gary:  As Ecuador Living subscribers we have relied on information from your newsletters to make our stay in Ecuador very satisfying.  I don’t know if you like receiving feedback on experiences your readers have had, but we felt we wanted to share some information about a hotel we stayed at in Cuenca. The hotel is called the hostal La Casona.  Up until 6 years ago it was the private hacienda of the owners.  They turned it into a three story hotel, while managing to preserve it’s charm and originality. (ie: original ceilings and crown moldings in the dining room).

The hotel is in a great location between the two rivers, and close to a mall, park, and the old city.  There is a wide variety of restaurants in the neighbourhood, and contrary to what we heard many were open on Sunday.  It is very secure and quiet there.  The rooms were of decent size, and our bathroom had a bathtub and shower.  Our adult daughter was with us, and she had a separate room. The total cost of the two rooms was $70 per night.  Compared to what other places are charging for inferior quality rooms, this is a steal!  We had good internet access and cable T.V.

The owners son, Patrice, lives on site and manages the place.  He speaks excellent English.  He has another fellow (Carlos) working the desk who also speaks some English.  We wanted to visit the ruins one day, and for $20 Carlos came on the bus with us and was our personal tour guide for the day.  Anything we wanted was met with prompt attention.  There is a dining room which serves a complimentary continental breakfast, and we had a lovely supper there one night.  We had three dinners, 2 soups and a bottle of wine for $33.  My daughter said the shrimp bisque was the best she has eaten.

As a lot of your readers come from North America they have certain standards they like to see in a hotel.  We were paying double the room rates in Guayaquil at an international chain hotel that couldn’t hold a candle to La Casona.  We hope if you are in Cuenca you will pay them a visit, and perhaps feel they deserve a mention in your newsletter. On the whole, we loved everything about Cuenca.  It is high on our list of possible retirement destinations.  Another myth dispelled…Cuenca is not COLD!  Especially if you are coming from Canada like we are.

We would also like to thank you for allowing us to rent your penthouse at San Clemente for a week.  We had a great time there, and we appreciate being able to stay in such a lovely room.  We are currently in Quito, and on Thursday we are heading to Cotacachi.  We will drop by your hotel, though.  Thanks again.  Betty Ann and Harold

There you have it. We have found that those who enjoy the most charm in Ecuador stay in the cozy small places to real get to know the people of Ecuador.

For example yesterday morning… on Valentine’s Day all our staff arrived at 6am. They had stayed up late making these flower arrangements.

ecuador-risk

Promptly at seven they went to every room and presented our guest with a boquet and a box of chocolates.  Our guests were overwhelmed. Here are four guests enjoying the flowers at breakfast.

ecuador-risk Merri and I were overwhelmed as well because we had not ask the staff to do this. The flowers… the chocolate… the early arrival were entirely their ideas.  This is the true, sweet nature of the people in Cotacachi1

Until next message may you be always blessed by sweet natures.

Ecuador Air Travel Warning

Here is an Ecuador air travel warning that really saddens me to write.

Let me explain why this is sad.

Blaine Watson just finished his Beyond Logic course on Vedic Astrology. We had a really great turn out… more than a full house here at the hotel.

Here is Blaine working with several delegates.

ecuador-travel-warning

Blaine’s course had more delegates than our international investing course. This does not surprise me because so many of our delegates have an interest in looking beyond the traditional health and wealth data.

We work hard to give them great experiences… introducing them to new nutritional and health as well as wealth ideas.

We take delegates for hikes around Cuicocha Crater Lake.

Plus we take them to Chachimbiro Volcanic thermal pools are near by.

This is a wonderful natural place where we can celebrate and immerse ourselves in the pure water of Ecuador .

Here we are enjoying the purest of Ecuador water with one of our groups as we soak for health and longevity in the Chachimbiro thermal springs.

ecuador-air-travel

The Ecuador water comes hot out of the mountains and has one of the most healing blends of minerals in the Americas. The Ecuador water is super hot at the top, about 120 degrees.

Plus we send them to the wonderful Relais & Chateaux La Mirage Spa.

Ecuador-air-travel

One benefit to our course is that we have a close proximity to the wonderful Cotacachi market (five minute walk).  Here one can buy incredible vegetables. Those huge cabbages are between 50 cents and a dollar. You can buy more of those perfectly vine ripened tomatoes than you can eat for a greenback.

The fruit is outstanding as well. This is why Ecuador real estate for sale offers such great value.

We look at the wonderful herbs and spices there… star anise…

Ecuador-air-travel-warning

Cloves…

Ecuador-air-travel-warning

Sweet Pepper (black cardamom)

Ecuador-air-travel-warning

Cumin

Ecuador-air-travel-warning

Achiote

Ecuador-air-travel-warning

We provide them with recipes for purifying teas we learned from a Shaman who lived high in the Andes. Though the village where he lived had no running water, the locals always glowed and their skin looked fresh and clean. I questioned their secret and this is what they said. This cleansing is delightful and works inside and out!

Take six packets of chamomile tea, six long cinnamon sticks and a handful of black cardamom (the sweet pepper shown above). Boil them thoroughly in a couple quarts of water. Set aside a cup or two to drink. Dilute the balance in three to five gallons of water as hot as you can stand. Get in a bathtub or shower. Sit in a meditative pose, relax and slowly ladle cup after cup over your head and entire body. When through, do not rinse or towel dry. Let your hair and body dry naturally. You’ll feel clean with a warm glow, smell like apple pie and your skin and hair will shine!

Enjoy drinking the tea as much and often as you like. This is a sweet, gentle secret that you can enjoy anytime, anywhere.

We even show delegates  how to gain health benefits with indigenous music.  Here are a group of singers at the market.

ecuador-travel-warning

We serve healthy coffee breaks. Here are the pulped fresh coconut balls with hand dipped organic chocolate that our maitre d  Eduardo creates and serves with strawberries and gooseberries.

Ecuador-air-travel-warning

In short we do a lot to fill our clients’ desires for better health…including serving up an good vegetarian menu for our vegetarian delegates.

So here is the Ecuador travel warning. American Airlines does not serve vegetarian meals from Quito.

Blaine Watson is a vegetarian and when we called American Airlines to book his vegetarian meals from Quito back… even though he had a first class ticket… the reply was … sorry. No meal choice from Quito.   We even called the US offices of American Airlines… to no avail.

This is sad… even sadder is the fact that American business… once the leader of capitalism and caring… no longer cares enough… to serve its clients who cannot eat meat… even on first class flights.  This is a long flight.

Next time you travel to Ecuador… if you desire a special meal… check in advance.  American won’t help you… unless maybe people make a fuss.

I prefer LAN and Delta anyway… but I’ll check there as well to make sure that such bad service is not catching.

Until next message, may your choices wherever you are be good.

Ecuador Beach Condo Rental

We have Ecuador beach rental units for as low as $500 a week.

This is for first class apartments in one of the top hotels directly on one of the best the beaches in Ecuador with full facilities, pool, tennis, spa, broadband and an English speaking staff etc.

Here they are.   This shot from our penthouse in the hotel.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

These condos are not exactly on the beach.  They are 133 steps (I walked it off myself) from the hotel… less than two minutes walk to this exact spot.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

These are very nice 2 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom units.  Views are good. Here is our last real estate tour on the roof garden.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

A sunset I shot at the condo’s roof top garden.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

The 1,200 square feet includes a living room…

and full kitchen down stairs.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

There are two and a half baths plus two bedrooms on the second floor.  The second bedroom is small, but…

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental the master bedroom is spacious with a comfortable king size bed and ocean view.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

These furnished units rent $200 per night or $500 week.

Where can you rent on an exclusive, empty beach with warm water at rates like that?

Prices are about 10 times what we were paying when we came here ten years ago but they are still much much less than they are they are in north America… even with the real estate crash.

Brand new 2 bedroom condos are $79,000 on this clean empty beach.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

with water so warm you can enjoy the surf all day long… as I do!

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

This is a property with a full facility club house. here are guests at our last real estate tour enjoying the warm coastal evening.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

A similar condo in Naples Florida, where we used to live, even today, would be ten times this or more.

If you wish to come and look for bargains. they are here.

We saw these brand new condos at $18,000.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

They are nice inside also.

Ecuador-beach-condo-rental

Yet having brought over 3,000 delegates to Ecuador we know what they want and in the last year no delegates has purchased on of these  low cost units.

We have clients come from all over the world, Thailand, Mexico, Uruguay, Panama and they all say the same. “Ecuador property prices are much lower”.  You will find few places of this quality on this type of location with prices this low.

Our premium service is called Ecuador Living … not Ecuador real estate.  While a large part of our service looks at Ecuador property, our real service is sharing 14 years experience of living in Ecuador. This year will be our 41st  year of living, investing and doing business abroad… so we really are quite experienced.  We have learned from thousands of dealings what most readers desire… so we can help the occasional reader look for the bargains… but we know what most readers will actually buy or rent  and we work hard to find it and make it easy for readers to own or rent.

In the case of Vistazul we were lucky to have a developer who listened to our suggestions and created an ideal place for our readers to call home on Ecuador’s beach.

We gain great delight seeing a community forming here and over the next week will share stories of some of the residents who are moving in.

Ecuador Beach Restaurants

Ecuador beach restaurants offer wonderful variety, excellent food and really low prices.

Sunday lunch is great, so here are some of the wonderful Ecuador beach restaurants where you might find Merri and me enjoying a Sunday meal.

In Manta for a quick bite we visit the Oro Verde cafe.  The Oro Verde hotel is in the center of Manta.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

Bread and pastry, as a general rule, are not Ecuador’s best specialties. Not true at the Oro Verde!  Merri and I have lived in many countries including places with great pastry such as France, Germany, Austria, Swiaterland and Italy.

The Oro Verde has pastries as good as any we have ever enjoyed. The Sundays papers and these pastries go well together.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

Sadly the Oro Verde coffee is the terrible, machine made Nestecafe cappuccino.  I put up with it though to enjoy the croissants and especially delicious cinnamon rolls.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

For good… quickly served, fresh, no frills seafood we visit Manta’s  beach and…

ecuador-beach-restuarants

the Oh Mar restaurant.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

A great seafood meal is about $6… or for something special… like this lobster for $12.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

Moving north to Crucita… we enjoy the cafe at the top of Balsamaraqua gated community.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

Open and airy, you can spend a Sunday afternoon enjoying this incredible view.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

Further north is San Clemente where we live and stay at Vistazul.

Here restaurants range from the high quality restaurant at Palmazul…

ecuador-beach-restuarants

where a Sunday dinner can run $17… but with a view.

Right on the beach…

ecuador-beach-restuarants

for special occasions and fine dining Palmazul is the place.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

When feeling more casual we amble a couple blocks to the Submarine beach restaurant…

ecuador-beach-restuarants really on the beach.

Where a meal is $4 to $5. You cannot beat the location.

Here we are with our friends Bob and Barbara Humphrey…

ecuador-beach-restuarants

After a great seafood meal we stroll two blocks back to Palmazul on this beach.

One really excellent, evening restaurant on the San Clemente beach…right next to Vistazul is Gabriel  Graziani’s  tiny beach shack restaurant.

He serves delicious pizza and lazagna.

in his hand made oven.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

He collects all the fresh ingredients and makes the food while you are there.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

Gabriel is the real deal when it comes to  Italian Pizza. See him preparing at  our You Tube

Further north is Bahia and there are several great places there starting with Casa Ceibo.

ecuador-beach-restuarants Elegant but pricey…by Ecuadorian standards.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

Well worth it once in awhile.

For snacks the cafe in la Piedre hotel cannot be beat…here I am with Kjetil Haugan as we overlook the Chone Estuary on a warm breezy afternoon.

ecuador-beach-restuarants

If you like value and seafood, this part of Ecuador from Manta to Bahia will serve you well.

Until next message may you enjoy your Sunday meal.

Ecuador Beach Condo Party

An Ecuador beach condo party could create a free Galapagos tour for you.

There has been a lot of bad economic news the last year.

A New York Times headline last week announced:

U.S. Economy Contracted at 3.8% Annual Pace in Fourth Quarter

Though the Commerce Department’s preliminary figure for gross domestic product in the fourth quarter of 2008 showed the greatest decline in more than 26 years, economists had forecast much worse.

The bad news is not for everyone. Life is good down here on the Equator.  A recent message Ecuador Business Passion explained why our Ecuador business is growing by leaps and bounds almost every month.

So it is not a great surprise that I can now announce that the Vistaazul Ecuador beach condo project is sold out…almost.

Originally the project was planned for 62 units at three price levels.

We announced this a year ago and as of yesterday all, but two of the low priced units were sold… and the two had been sold… but the economic correction has caused some buyers to back out.

This calls for a celebration and in fact Vistazul owners get to participate in an almost unbelievable celebration. I’ll explain in a moment. First let me share one more opportunity.

Merri and I have have spent the last week relaxing at Vistazul.  While there, I spent considerable time with the developer and owner of the project Kjetil Haugan.

When Kjetil began this development a year ago, our advice was that readers would be especially interested, if he could keep the price for a 1,200 square foot unit with beach views below $80,000.

He followed that recommendation and we were right. The entire project was purchased almost entirely by our readers.

So while on this trip, Kjetil listened to two more recommendations we made which were:

#1: Hold off on the higher elevation higher priced units…for now.
Building costs are higher on the upper units and I believe the success at Vistaazul has come from keeping prices affordable.

#2: Build more of the lower priced $79,000 units. Prices, due to inflation, have risen and recent units were offered at $84,900.  However there was space for five more units at a lower level (but nearer the beach).

He agreed.  Keeping with the plan of spacious and lush gardens did not give Kjetil much additional room…but he has added five more condos….and dropped the price to $79,000.

Here is the site plan.  Please excuse the rough sketch but I wanted you to understand what is happening.   This sketch is all I have.

galapagos-discount-tours

This leaves seven units for sale..the two not sold and the five new Kjetil has added which will be block six.

Let me walk you around the project so you can tie the units and progress to the sketch above.

Here is a shot from the Palmazul hotel which is also the condo development’s clubhouse which sits right on the beach.

galapagos-discounts

The first building you see on the left is block one… seven units in all. Merri and I have units in each block.   Unit 102 is ours.   Units 103 and 104 belong to our daughters, Fran and Ele.  This block is 133 steps to the beach…just a bit over the distance of a football field.  I counted the steps myself to see.

Here is a close up of block one from the front.

galapagos-discounts

from the back.

galapagos-discounts

Block one is finished, waiting only for final trim and landscaping.

The block you see behind and slightly to the right  is Block 5.

Here is block five in more detail…about 75% complete.

galapagos-discounts

Merri and I have block 503.

Block three, like block one, is mostly done. Here is block three.

galapagos-discount-tour

Merri and I have unit 303 and 305. We are getting ready to furnish these for rental along with units 102-103 and 104.

Block four is in the rear of the project and is about 25% complete. Here it is. Merri and I have block 403.

galapagos-discounts

Block two (we have unit 207) and the new block six  are about to begin.  Kjetil has a crew coming in to finish and the balance of the project will take nine months.  Two units in block two are unsold and now there will be the five new units in block six.  This will create a project of  38 units in total.

There is also a re sale available… but this is priced a bit higher…as you can see below.

Now for the celebration… and the condo owners have quite a bit to celebrate…   an entire project started, sold out in a year and targeted for completion nine months from now. A success in the worst economic times in decades.

Kjetil and his wife not only own the Vistaazul project and the Palmazul Hotel (which is also the Vistazul clubhouse)… they also are the largest Galapagos tour agents and own two amazing Galapagos cruise boats. See Haugan Cruises to see their vessels.

An eight day tour on these luxury Catamarans costs as much as $4,390 and a four day cruise $2,230.

Condos owners are lucky because to celebrate the success at Vistaazul Kjetil is giving a four day party… on his boat… in the Galapagos… FREE to condo owners.

We are not sure of the date yet.   The normal price of such a tour is  $2,230.   Yet Kjetil has set aside his  yacht Athala for four days and is inviting condo owners (one person per condo owned) to enjoy the this Galapagos cruise.   This is a $2,230  savings.

galapagos-discount

Buyers of the last six units can also join the party.

There are no tricks either. These cruises include all meals, all guided trips, soft drinks, coffee, etc.

There is even more.  Kjetll knows that not every owner can come on the dates that will be set… Those who cannot will not have to miss the party either.   Kjetil will provide them… on a space available basis… with a free four day Galapagos cruise as well.

That is value… a condo just yards (I stepped this off.  Unit one is 133 steps to the beach) from the beach… $79,000.  Club membership in Palmazul… normally $5,000… waived… plus a free Galapagos cruise.

Kjetil can be reached at kjetil@haugancruises.com

I have mentioned before…but want to add once more that I have no financial interest in Palmazul or Vistazul other than as property owner myself.  I am not paid a commission  nor any financial remuneration for the sale of these units.  I am an condo owner myself and gain as the project becomes more popular.  Otherwise I gain no compensation whatsoever when these units are sold.

Units available are:

Unit #     Details     Price         Club          Total price

Micro Business Security

Your own micro business can increase security.

There is a lot of bad economic news flowing these days.

For example, last week a New York Times headline last week announced:

U.S. Economy Contracted at 3.8% Annual Pace in Fourth Quarter

Though the Commerce Department’s preliminary figure for gross
domestic product in the fourth quarter of 2008 showed the
greatest decline in more than 26 years, economists had
forecast much worse.

A BBC report this week said:

Ford, General Motors (GM) and Chrysler have all reported a sharp fall in US sales in January, as industry-wide American sales fell to a 27-year low.

Sales at Ford plunged 42% last month, compared with a year earlier, while those at GM declined 49%, and Chrysler was hit by a fall of 55%.
But the bad news is not for everyone.  A recent message explained why our business is growing by leaps and bounds almost every month.

There is not bad news everywhere though.  Life is good for small businesses that have adapted and zeroed in on helping during the economic crisis.

A recent message Ecuador Business Passion explained why our web business is growing by leaps and bounds almost every month.

Car sales may be down 50% compared with a year earlier, but our January business is up over 100% compared to last January.  See why at Business Passion.

Web business are perfect during these troubled times. They reduce overheads and allow maximum flexibility to shift with economic trends.

I also also like a web business because they provide freedom to move around.

In the summer I can work and enjoy this view at our North Carolina farm.

Then in winter when it is miserable and expensive to be in these mountains I can enjoy this sunrise view from our Cotacachi condo and still be in business.

Or Merri and I can visit our Ecuador Pacific beach condo and wach this sunset while we still work.

This freedom not only makes life more enjoyable but also reduces the cost of living.

This is why we are sharing a free course on how to create your own website without a webmaster written by Michelle Toole. Here is the 32nd lesson in this course.

Blogging…Another Effective Way to Keep Your Readers Coming Back by Michelle Toole

It is a well known fact that many a time a visitor may visit your site only once, never to return.

So how do you get them to come back?

Good Question.

You have a couple of options, first by publishing a high-value e-zine/newsletter you will encourage return visits and build a trusting relationship between you and your visitors/potential customers. But there is another “communication” approach that is growing in popularity.

It’s called “blogging.”

Basically, blogging means creating a “Web log” or a diary on your Web site, and it is a fast way to share timely information (updates, new developments in your field, trends, etc.), express an opinion, answer a question, or exchange whatever info you want.

How you communicate in your Web log/Blog will depend upon your personality, your time commitments and the tolerance level of your audience. The guiding principle should be simplicity — quick and easy-to-create messages to stay in touch.

Having a web site and a blog combined is one of the best ways to get return visitors while at the same time gaining new visitors.  And as an owner of a theme-based content site, all entries on your designated blog page need to relate to your site’s particular theme. This is a critical criterion to note. You don’t want to risk losing Search Engine relevancy points because your blog page is off target. So, for example, if your Web site focuses on PREselling your accounting service, documenting your passion for orchids will not benefit your page-ranking score — no matter how exhilarating it is for you to share new discoveries!

For a small business owner, a blog is a great way to keep your site fresh and worth revisiting on a regular basis.  But more importantly, it nurtures a feeling of familiarity and reinforces your expertise and knowledge base…

A few final points about blogging…

•    An entry should take as much time as it would to craft an informative e-mail.

•    In the offline world, sometimes people come into a store just to look around, see what’s new and visit with the owner or employees. A blog is an easy way to replicate that relationship-building scenario with your online visitors.

•    Not everyone will be interested in your blog page. But if it makes an impact on even a few visitors, then it’s a worthwhile ROI (Return on Investment). A sale more than compensates for your time effort.

•    Continue to blog as long as it makes sense to you and/or you enjoy it. Use your e-zine to cross-promote what’s new in the blog. And use your blog to cross-promote your e-zine.

Bottom line…..

The growing popularity of “Blogging” emphasizes the importance of updated content on your site. And the fastest and most profitable way to add freshness to your site is by adding regularly to a blog. Of course, long-term, nothing beats creating new pages on your theme based web site.

Look for my future articles where we discuss additional monetization options, search engine optimization, incoming links, additional e-zine techniques, link exchange programs and much more…..

How We Can Serve You

How to Have Real Safety in 2020

The most important investment you can make in 2020, is in yourself.

Invest in more time.  Invest in less stress. Invest in greater security. That’s why four years ago we created the Purposeful Investing Course (PI) because when it comes to finances, there are only three reasons why we should invest.  We invest for income.  We invest to resell our investments for more than we had invested.  We invest to make our world a better place.

We should not invest for fun, excitement or to get rich quick, or in a panic due to market corrections.

The core model portfolio we teach in the PI Course rarely changes, but is highly diversified in thousands of shares around the world… so there is higher long term profits, less stress and greater safety.

The portfolio consists of 19 country ETFs.  During the four years since we created the Purposeful Investing Course and set up a $40,000 real time portfolio at Motif Brokers, we have held the same 19 shares and have only traded three times.

The portfolio started with $40,000 and has risen to $53,591 ($49,015 in shares and the balance in accumulated cash).

The portfolio did really well from 2015 to 2018, better than the DJI Index.  Then as the US dollar grew in strength it fell behind.

The chart below shows the actual results of thos portfolio compared with the S&P 500.

motif

This good value portfolio above is based entirely on good value financial information and mathematically based safety programs developed around investing models that date back 91 and 24 years.

The Pifolio is a theoretical portfolio of MSCI Country Benchmark Index ETFs that cover all the good value markets developed combining my 50 years of investing experience with study of the mathematical market value analysis of Keppler Asset Management.

In my opinion, Keppler is one of the best market statisticians in the world.  Numerous very large fund managers, such as State Street Global Advisers, use his analysis to manage over $2.5 billion of funds.

The Pifolio analysis begins with Keppler who continually researches international major stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  He compares each major stock market’s history.

Fwd: keppler

Michael Kepler CEO Keppler Asset Management.

Michael is a brilliant mathematician.  We have tracked his analysis for over 20 years.   He continually researches international major stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  He compares each stock market’s history.  From this, he develops his Good Value Stock Market Strategy and rates each market as a Buy, Neutral or Sell market.  His analysis is rational, mathematical and does not cause worry about short term ups and downs.  Keppler’s strategy is to diversify into an equally weighted portfolio of the MSCI Indices of each BUY market.

This is an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value because little time, management and guesswork is required.  You are investing in a diversified portfolio of good value indices.

A BUY rating for an index does NOT imply that any stock in that country is an attractive investment, so you do not have to spend hours of research aimed at picking specific shares.  It is not appropriate or enough to instruct a stockbroker to simply select stocks in the BUY rated countries.  Investing in the index is like investing in all the shares in the index.  You save time because all you have to do is invest in the ETF to gain the profit potential of the entire market.

To achieve this goal of diversification the Pifolio consists of Country Index ETFs.

Country Index ETFs are similar to an index mutual fund but are shares normally traded on a major stock exchange that tracks an index of shares in a specific country.  ETFs do not try to beat the index they represent.  The management is passive and tries to emulate the performance of the index.

A country ETF provides diversification into a basket of equities in the country covered.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund as well so such ETFs provide diversification and cost efficiency.

Here is the Pifolio I personally use.

70% is diversified into Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) developed markets: Australia, Austria, France, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Norway, Spain, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

30% of the Pifolio is invested in Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) emerging markets: Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan.

The Pifolio consists of iShares ETFs that invested in each of the MSCI indicies of theseall good value BUY markets.

For example, the iShares MSCI Australia (symbol EWA) is a Country Index ETF that tracks the investment results the Morgan Stanley Capital Index MSCI Australia Index which is composed mainly of large cap and small cap stocks traded primarily on the Australian Stock Exchange mainly of companies in consumer staples, financials and materials. This ETF is non-diversified outside of Australia.

iShares is owned by Black Rock, Inc. the world’s largest asset manager with over $4 trillion in assets under management.

The fact that the Pifilios are invested in all the shares of the MSCI Index in each good value market reduces long term risk.

When the US stock market bull ends, know one knows for sure how long or how severe the correction will be.

When the bear arrives, what will happen to global and especially good value markets?

No  one knows the answer to this question.

What we do know is that the equally weighted, good value market Pifolios have the greatest potential long term and that math based trailing stops can be used to protect against a secular global stock market correction when it comes.

My fifty years of global investing experience helps take advantage of numerous long term cycles that are part of the universal math that affects all investments.

You also receive two special reports.

In the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffett explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said:  Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

I did well then, but always thought, “I should have invested more!”  Now those circumstances have come together and I am investing in them again.

The circumstances that created fortunes 30 years ago were an overvalued US market (compared to global markets) and an overvalued US dollar.  The two conditions are in place again!

30 years ago, the US dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern is growing and could create up to 50% extra profit if we start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I have created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but included links to 153 pages of  Good Value Stock Market research and Asset Allocation Analysis.

The report shows 20 good value investments and a really powerful tactic that shows the most effective and least expensive way to accumulate these bargains in large or even very small amounts (less than $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

This report sells for $29.95 but in this special offer, you receive the report, “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

Plus get the $39.95 report “The Silver Dip” free.

With investors watching global stock markets bounce up and down, many missed two really important profit generating events over the last two years.  The price of silver dipped below $14 an ounce as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).   The second event is that the silver gold ratio hit 80, compared to a ratio of 230 only two years before.

In September 2015, I prepared a special report “Silver Dip 2015” about a silver speculation, leveraged with a British pound loan, that could increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The tactics described in that report generated 62.48% profit in just nine months.

I have updated this report and “Silver Dip” report shares the latest in a series of long term lessons gained through 40 years of speculating and investing in precious metals.  I released the 2015 report, when the gold silver ratio slipped to 80.  The ratio has corrected and that profit has been taken and now a new precious metals dip has emerged.

I have prepared a new special report “Silver Dip” about a leveraged speculation that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.
