The Real Wealth in Green


Don’t wait for St. Patrick’s Day to go green.

Green may mean money…. but has a natural health benefit even bigger than cash!

There is a lot more to the color of green that we should celebrate every day.

A good way to increase intelligence is to surround yourself in the greenery of nature.  Often when stumbling in my thoughts, I pack up my laptop and walk the couple hundred yards from our front door to the pond.

I find that the peace, quiet and calm of nature frees any clouds and stimulates my thinking.

Also there is evidence that going green increases longevity!

Nature deficit disorder shortens lifespan.  Researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (1) found a strong correlation between living surrounded by greenery and longevity and mental health.

They evaluated more than 108,000 women all across America for eight years. There was a 12 percent lower risk of death for those women who lived in the greenest surroundings.  34 percent were less likely to die of a respiratory-related issue and 13 percent less likely to die of cancer.  The strong correlation also extended to mental health. Women living in the greenest environments were happier and less depressed.

Don’t wait for St. Patrick’s Day to go green.  Next time if you are feeling blue or angry and you are seeing red, get into nature.  You’ll feel better and odds are live longer if you do.

Secret of the Hogberry

More than 100 studies have found that physical activity can lower cancer risk and even help cure cancer.  Fortunately researchers asked why and one answer became clear.  Body fat.

Fortunately there is a little known way to reduce body fat that does not even require exercise.  I’ll share more on this secret in a moment.

First, body fat and cancer?   Let’s ask why?

Part of the answer is toxicity.

Healthy bodies naturally and regularly remove water-soluble toxins from the body.  Our blood and kidneys flush them away.

Fat-soluble toxins such as metals, pesticides, preservatives, other pollutants are harder to flush out of the system.   Fat-soluble toxins must become water-soluble before the body can get rid of them.  The liver can do this conversion (bile emulsifies fat-souble toxins into water-soluble).  This process requires healthy digestive and detox pathways.  When they become imbalanced, fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat cells and brain cells instead.   These toxins can remain for decades and create health problems.

The fat stored toxins cause oxidation (free radical damage) and degeneration as well as mutation.  Toxins in the fatty tissue of the brain become neurotoxins that can cause cognitive problems and a host of mental and brain imbalances.

The way to avoid this storage of deadly toxicity is to keep stress down, while digestion and detoxification pathways remain good.

Burn Fat to Burn Toxins

When you burn fat not primarily for weight loss, (though you will lose weight) but for purification, you can turn on the body’s detox fuel.  Fat metabolism is the body’s natural form of energy.   Fat metabolism provides a more steady energy than glucose metabolism and flushes fat cells free of toxins.  As the toxicity drops, the nervous system has reduced stress and will naturally burn fat instead of sugar.

Intermittent fasting is one way to get the body to burn fat.  There is a way of eating that helps reduce weight, improve energy and purify the body as it returns to a state of natural health.

This is a simple easy way to improve and restore feeling good, but works best when combined with better nutrition, moderate exercise and a purification program that helps make sure that the body is not overwhelmed with too much purification at once.

The Secret Chargemaster Revealed

Few places can destroy health and ruin a lifetime of savings faster than a hospital.  We are at risk from pocketbook surgery and the incredibly dangerous “Chargemaster”.   See below why chargemasters were normally kept secret, how a 2018 federal law requires their disclosure and how to gain protection from their abuse.

How can it be that medical costs are so high? Why is it so difficult to figure out the charge for a medical procedure?

The government in trying to help answer these questions began requiring hospitals from Jan. 1, 2019 to post their chargemaster lists.

These enormous lists of products and services ranging from a single aspirin up to a complicated surgery does little to answer these questions.

Chargemasters can include tens of thousands of items and procedures, with technical names and abbreviations that few can understand.

So listing the chargemaster isn’t helpful or meaningful, but simply gives hospitals one more excuse for outrageous costs… “but we listed what these costs”.

Modern American health care is under pressure.  Despite horrendous costs, the system is faltering.  At times the care is more dangerous than the illness.  For example hospitals are the worst place to have a heart attack.  The University of North Carolina, did a study and found that 40% of the patients who had hearts attacks in the hospital died before being discharged.  (The study compared that with only a 4% death rate for those who had heart attacks outside the hospital.)

Plus it was recently revealed that medical endoscopy scopes in hospitals were infecting patients with deadly drug-resistant bacteria.  The facts about this had not been previously disclosed.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that hospital-acquired infections alone kill 99,000 people each year.  Here is an even worse hospital mortality fact.

Often, what patients catch in the hospital is worse than what sent them there.  Governments and health care agencies agree  – antibiotic resistance is a “nightmare.”  An antibiotic-resistant bacteria may be spreading in more hospitals than patients know.  About one in every 25 hospitalized patients gets an infection and a 2013 report from the Journal of Patient Safety showed that medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the country.

Along with the risk of hospital acquired illness and medical errors, the second huge threat to our well being… is health care costs, especially at hospitals.  This is because of the secrets in the chargemaster and the people who do not want us to know how much hospital costs have risen .  Motivations beyond our good health, like corporate greed, want to keep us in the dark about health care cost.

The hospital bill above is part of a story about a $110,000 infection and why hospital “chargemasters” are often secret.  This story tells how one person with resistant devastating infection ran up a $110,000 hospital bill only to find that Medicare would only pay $2,300 from treatment of infection.

Secret of the Chargemasters

Being in a hospital can kill as well as cure.  There are odds on that.  What is more certain is that hospitals can kill our finances.

The ‘average’ cost of hospital care is rising because the leading hospitals are front runners in figuring out how to amass market power so they can  raise prices and decrease competition.  A codeine pill that costs $20 at a hospital costs 50 cents at Rite-Aid or Walgreens.  Hospitals have “chargemasters” a price list created by each hospital, that typically has more than ten thousand entries, so almost nothing — even an aspirin, a bag of IV fluid, or a visit from a physical therapist to help a patient get out of bed — is free.  However, those lists are usually secret.

Hospital Failure

The Commonwealth Fund in its latest survey on overall health care ranked US healthcare dead last compared to 10 major countries.  Despite being worst, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Times have all warned about huge, increasingly costly, health care changes.  There are enormous problems in hospitals and chances are they are going to get worse.

When it comes to health care, we may well be on our own.  The very people, institutions and establishments that  we should rely on may actually hurt rather than help our health.  Shamanic Wisdom accumulated over the millennia can fill the gap.

More Positive Longevity


How, and more importantly, why to achieve a positive attitude.

The world can seem as if its going through some pretty negative times.

That’s how it can feel if we let our attitudes get us down.  When we only perceive grey in problems, we might think these are the worst of times instead of the best of times.

We should not see events in this mode because the greyness has the potential to kill us.   Here are five ways to create a positive attitude and live longer instead.

Practice gratitude. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what you receive, whether tangible or intangible. Try keeping a gratitude journal, in which you regularly write down things for which you are grateful.

Cultivate mindfulness. Mindfulness is generally acquired by training the mind to focus its attention on the present moment in a systematic way, accepting whatever arises.

Retain a sense of purpose. It’s normal to experience a sense of loss and even grief if a relationship fractures, your children leave home, or you lose a job or retire. It’s important at trying times to keep your life as normal as possible and to focus on what you can control.

Emphasize the positive. Winnowing out and focusing on the positive aspects of a situation are key factors in acquiring resilience—the ability to bounce back from bad times—that will help you weather the losses that may occur in the years ahead.

These are good ideas worth following.  They can help you live longer and live better, richer, happier as well as healthier.

The article ends with this sage advice (bolds are mine).  It’s worth remembering because it shows that the days ahead can be the best of times.

Finally, on survey after survey, older people report that they have become more satisfied with their lives as they have aged, despite the losses that accumulate with passing years.  This is most likely because they tend to minimize the negative, accept their limitations and use their experience to compensate for them, and set reasonable goals for the future. The earlier in life you adopt these practices—all of which help to sustain a positive attitude—the greater the potential impact on the quality, and possibly length, of your life.

The Huge 2019 Risk

Here is a huge risk that could explode in 2019.

I hope I am wrong… but the numbers are clear.

According to Treasurydirect.com, (1) as of December 27, 2018 the cost of interest on the total US public debt of $21,845,329,154,412.01.  Tht’s 23 trillion and 845 billion dollars.

This is not a theoretical problem for the future.  This is not something that our children and grandchildren will have to deal with.  This is a problem in the here and now for you and me.

Rising interest rates create a massive problem for every American.

The good news is I sent a note like this last year ad I was wrong.

Last year when I sent that note the debt was $20,467,375,664,755.32 (20 trillion+).  The debt has increased almost 1.4 trillion dollars in 2018.

This is good news and bad… the rock and the hard spot.  The bad news is that the rock (US federal debt) is getting bigger….harder to miss.  The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projected in 2010 (the debt then was a bit over 14 trillion then) that, under law at that time, debt held by the public would exceed $16 trillion by 2020, reaching nearly 70 percent of GDP.

They sure goofed on that.  Here we are… only in 2019 and debt has shot past 21 trillion.

How could the CBO be so wrong? 

The CBO screwed up because they could never imagine that the Fed would push interest rates so low… and keep them there.  The interest rates are so low that the government has been able to borrow more than imagined and still afford the interest.

For example, US Federal government interest last year amounted to around $483 billion on the 20 trillion of debt.  Yet in 2008 on debt of only $9,229,172,659,218.31 (9 trillion +) the interest that year was $451,154,049,950.63 (451 billion +).

Interest payments in 2017 were 7% higher than they were in 2008.  Yet the debt is over 100% higher.  

Very low interest rates have helped the government borrow.  Low interest has also helped the US stocks reach all time high prices.

Now US dollar interest rates are rising.  In 2018 the interest costs were 8.2% higher than in 2017.   Yet the debt increase was only 6.7%.

The government will resist raising rates because it will ruin their budget, cause a collapse of the stock markets and destroy the US dollar.

Here is the very hard spot.  

Rising interest rates, will create an almost unimaginable debt crisis.  If government interest goes to 6% it is like the $20+ trillion national debt  rising to 40 trillion!  Unless there are some huge tax increase the interest payments are not sustainable.

A tax increase?  Last year’s tax act reduced, not increased, revenue.

The first fact behind this secret is that things are really good in the western world.  Despite many problems, we are surrounded by more abundance and greater opportunity than almost anyone has ever enjoyed, anywhere, ever.   To enjoy a fair share of this wealth, all we have to do is understand human nature and learn how to invest in the new economy, as it changes and becomes new, again and again.

Merri and I have made seven huge transitions in the 50 years.  Each has allowed us to always stay ahead of losses that the majority of Americans suffer.  We are in another transition right now and want to share why and what to do so you can stay ahead and live a richer, independent life through 2019 and beyond.

A falling US dollar is one of the greatest risks we have to our independence, safety, health, and wealth, but also brings a window of huge profit as I explain below.   Though the greenback has been strong for a number of years, its strength is in serious jeopardy.  The growing federal deficits increase the national debt and this with rising interest rates propels a growing debt service.

While the Dow Jones Industrial Average passed 25,000, the U.S. national debt passed the $20 trillion mark.

The problem is that the Dow will come back down.  National debt will not fall.

The double shock of money fleeing Wall Street and US debt skyrocketing, will destroy the purchasing power of the greenback.

Go to the store even now.  Statistics say inflation is low, but buy some bread or, heaven forbid, some fresh vegetables like peppers or fruit.   Look at the cost of your prescription or hospital bills.  Do something simple like have your car serviced at an auto dealer.  Look at the dollars you spend and you’ll see what I mean.

The loss of the dollar’s purchasing power erodes our independence, our freedom and our savings and wealth as well. 

At the same time, low interest rates by big banks and higher health care costs soak up the ever diminishing income and savings we have left.  According to a Gallup poll, the most unpopular three institutions in America are big corporations & Wall Street banks, HMOs and Congress.

Yet there is little we can do because these institutions are in control.

Over the last 50 years the average income for 90 percent of the American population fell.  Our health system is restricted by a Kafka-esque maze of legislation and insurance regulations that delay, frustrate, and thwart attempts by patients and doctors from proper medical care.  Big banks and corporations restrict our freedom of choice.  The business customer relationships are no longer transactions between free equals.

Banks can trap us in indebtedness at every age from student loans to mortgages to health care costs.  They pay almost nothing on our savings.  They hide unexpected fees and payments in complex and unreadable documents.  Banks and big corporations routinely conceal vital information in small print and then cheat.  Weak regulations and lax enforcement leave consumers with few ways to fight back.  Many of these businesses ranging from cable TV to phone and internet service to health insurance have virtual monopolies that along with deceptive marketing destroys any form of free market.

These same companies control the credit-scoring agencies so if  we don’t pay unfair fees, our credit scores will plunge and we could lose the ability to borrow money, rent an apartment, even to get a job.  Many consumers are forced to accept “arbitration clauses” in lieu of  legal rights.  The alternative is to lose banking, power, and communication services.

Big business has also usurped our privacy.  Internet companies sell our personal data.  Personal information is pulled from WiFi and iPhones track and store our movements.  The government can access this information, sometimes without subpoenas.  There’s a lot that we don’t know, often withheld under the guise of “National Security.”

The glow on Western democratic capitalism has dimmed… or so it seems.  The US, leading the way, is still a superpower with economic, innovation and military might, but the institutions that should serve the people have become flawed or broken.

America’s infrastructure is in shambles.  The nation’s bridges are crumbling, many water systems are filled with toxins, yet instead of spending more to fix this, we build more prisons.  The 2.2 million people currently in  jail is a 500 percent increase over the past thirty years.  60% of the inmates belong to ethnic groups.  Not just non-white ethnic groups are suffering.  Annual death rates are falling for every group except for middle-aged white Americans.  Death rates are rising among this group driven by an epidemic of suicides and afflictions stemming from substance abuse, alcoholic liver disease and overdoses of heroin and prescription opioids.

America’s middle class is shrinking.  Nearly  half of America’s income goes to upper-income households now.  In 1970 only 29 percent went to this group.  How can we regain our freedom, our happiness and our well being in such a world?

The Real Wealth in Green


A good way to increase intelligence is to be in nature.  Often when stumbling in my thoughts, I pack up my laptop and walk the couple hundred yards from our front door to the pond.

I throw out a bit of food for the trout, listen to them splash along with bird songs and a cricket or two.

I find that the peace, quiet and calm of nature frees any clouds and stimulates my thinking.

Also there is evidence that nature deficit disorder shortens lifespan.  Researchers at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (1) found a strong correlation between living surrounded by greenery and longevity and mental health.

They evaluated more than 108,000 women all across America for eight years. There was a 12 percent lower risk of death for those women who lived in the greenest surroundings.  34 percent were less likely to die of a respiratory-related issue and 13 percent less likely to die of cancer.  The strong correlation also extended to mental health. Women living in the greenest environments were happier and less depressed.

Next time if you are feeling blue or angry and you are seeing red, go green.  You’ll feel better and odds are live longer if you do.

Secret of the Hogberry

Gain Amazing Health Benefits with the Hogberry

More than 100 studies have found that physical activity can lower cancer risk and even help cure cancer.  Fortunately researchers asked why and one answer became clear.  Body fat.

Fortunately there is a little known way to reduce body fat that does not even require exercise.  I’ll share more on this secret in a moment.

First, body fat and cancer?   Let’s ask why?

Part of the answer is toxicity.

Healthy bodies naturally and regularly remove water-soluble toxins from the body.  Our blood and kidneys flush them away.

Fat-soluble toxins such as metals, pesticides, preservatives, other pollutants are harder to flush out of the system.   Fat-soluble toxins must become water-soluble before the body can get rid of them.  The liver can do this conversion (bile emulsifies fat-souble toxins into water-soluble).  This process requires healthy digestive and detox pathways.  When they become imbalanced, fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat cells and brain cells instead.   These toxins can remain for decades and create health problems.

The fat stored toxins cause oxidation (free radical damage) and degeneration as well as mutation.  Toxins in the fatty tissue of the brain become neurotoxins that can cause cognitive problems and a host of mental and brain imbalances.

The way to avoid this storage of deadly toxicity is to keep stress down, while digestion and detoxification pathways remain good.

Burn Fat to Burn Toxins

When you burn fat not primarily for weight loss, (though you will lose weight) but for purification, you can turn on the body’s detox fuel.  Fat metabolism is the body’s natural form of energy.   Fat metabolism provides a more steady energy than glucose metabolism and flushes fat cells free of toxins.  As the toxicity drops, the nervous system has reduced stress and will naturally burn fat instead of sugar.

Intermittent fasting is one way to get the body to burn fat.  There is a way of eating that helps reduce weight, improve energy and purify the body as it returns to a state of natural health.

The Secret Chargemaster Revealed

Few places can destroy health and ruin a lifetime of savings faster than a hospital.  We are at risk from pocketbook surgery and the incredibly dangerous “Chargemaster”.   See below why chargemasters were normally kept secret, how a 2018 federal law requires their disclosure and how to gain protection from their abuse.

How can it be that medical costs are so high? Why is it so difficult to figure out the charge for a medical procedure?

The government in trying to help answer these questions began requiring hospitals from Jan. 1, 2019 to post their chargemaster lists.

These enormous lists of products and services ranging from a single aspirin up to a complicated surgery does little to answer these questions.

Modern American health care is under pressure.  Despite horrendous costs, the system is faltering.  At times the care is more dangerous than the illness.  For example hospitals are the worst place to have a heart attack.  The University of North Carolina, did a study and found that 40% of the patients who had hearts attacks in the hospital died before being discharged.  (The study compared that with only a 4% death rate for those who had heart attacks outside the hospital.)

Plus it was recently revealed that medical endoscopy scopes in hospitals were infecting patients with deadly drug-resistant bacteria.  The facts about this had not been previously disclosed.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that hospital-acquired infections alone kill 99,000 people each year.  Here is an even worse hospital mortality fact.

Often, what patients catch in the hospital is worse than what sent them there.  Governments and health care agencies agree  – antibiotic resistance is a “nightmare.”  An antibiotic-resistant bacteria may be spreading in more hospitals than patients know.  About one in every 25 hospitalized patients gets an infection and a 2013 report from the Journal of Patient Safety showed that medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the country.

Along with the risk of hospital acquired illness and medical errors, the second huge threat to our well being… is health care costs, especially at hospitals.  This is because of the secrets in the chargemaster and the people who do not want us to know how much hospital costs have risen .  Motivations beyond our good health, like corporate greed, want to keep us in the dark about health care cost.

The hospital bill above is part of a story about a $110,000 infection and why hospital “chargemasters” are often secret.  This story tells how one person with resistant devastating infection ran up a $110,000 hospital bill only to find that Medicare would only pay $2,300 from treatment of infection.

Secret of the Chargemasters

Being in a hospital can kill as well as cure.  There are odds on that.  What is more certain is that hospitals can kill our finances.

The ‘average’ cost of hospital care is rising because the leading hospitals are front runners in figuring out how to amass market power so they can  raise prices and decrease competition.  A codeine pill that costs $20 at a hospital costs 50 cents at Rite-Aid or Walgreens.  Hospitals have “chargemasters” a price list created by each hospital, that typically has more than ten thousand entries, so almost nothing — even an aspirin, a bag of IV fluid, or a visit from a physical therapist to help a patient get out of bed — is free.  However, those lists are usually secret.

Hospital Failure

The Commonwealth Fund in its latest survey on overall health care ranked US healthcare dead last compared to 10 major countries.  Despite being worst, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Times have all warned about huge, increasingly costly, health care changes.  There are enormous problems in hospitals and chances are they are going to get worse.

When it comes to health care, we may well be on our own.  The very people, institutions and establishments that  we should rely on may actually hurt rather than help our health.  Shamanic Wisdom accumulated over the millennia can fill the gap.

A: Read something you enjoy.  Good writers are usually voracious readers and a good read is like a good conversation… stimulating.

B: Use the three step system below.  This helps you unlock your higher forms of intelligence that cannot be accessed in lingual form.

Step #1: Write by hand for five or ten minutes everything you can about a business idea.  This connects the the mind/body functions.

Step #2: Listen to the Writer”s Relaxation or sit quietly for 10 minutes listening to Baroque largo music.  Relax and let your mind wander… use innocence… no expectation.

Step #3: At the end of ten minutes write down whatever is on your mind at that time. Write as much about it as you can…just let it flow.

In the thoughts…in the visions that you have at the end of the ten minute meditation or in the quiet listening, there will be an out of the box idea to dwell on… often in graphic form…a picture rather than words.  Dwell easily on this in context of your business.

We are all connected… each a part of an infinite intelligence… that is overwhelming in relation to our ability to think… especially in terms as restrictive as language.  The universe is terra, terra infinite, bytes of data.  Our logic in comparison as a processor… not even 64K.  So at the least we cannot expect to tap into the universe in English.

We can gain interface by dwelling on symbols we gain through these steps.

Our universe is positive and negative… yin and yang… masculine – feminine, plus – minus… give and take.  So every problem creates and opportunity. When our minds are full of nature’s intelligence we naturally see the silver lining… even when the clouds seem grey.

The Friday, December 4, 2009 USA Today headline was Employers cut 533,000 jobs in Nov., most since 1974.

This article by Barbara Hagenbaugh said:  Employers slashed jobs at the swiftest pace in 34 years in November, leading the unemployment rate to rise to 6.7% from 6.5% in October and the highest in 15 years, the government said Friday.  The report points to a rapidly deepening recession. The unemployment rate was held down as discouraged workers dropped out of the job pool.

This can lead to a lifestyle opportunity…for several reasons.

I find this downturn very exciting.  Last June I had my annual progression with my Vedic astrologer and he commented, “beginning Nov. 30, 2008  the period will be benign but will give self confidence that I will doubt.”

My astrologer asked for feedback on how this came to light because he had never seen this before.   What this meant was puzzling to him.

Now I can see how this position has been growing all through last year…as markets collapsed…as the portfolios we create and track crashed..as the world’s material mindset began to crumble.  I have felt a growing sense that everything is in perfect order…correct…and whatever comes we’ll  (Merri, me and you, my readers) not only do well….but will prosper greatly.

While many feel fear, I feel excitement and anticipation.  What a chance to examine new ways of living, business and investing!

Of course, part of me has questions, “Can this all be right? Will markets collapse?” etc. etc.

But in my heart there really is no fear.

I work at keeping it that way as well.  I stay away from the popular press headlines for example. I do not watch TV (we don’t have it here in NC or in Ecuador) or get caught up in the daily news.

Doing this is supported by Time magazine’s  December 11, 2008 article, “The Happiness Effect” by Alice Park  which says:

So public-health experts are beginning to wonder whether certain health-related behaviors are just as contagious as microbes.

If you’re struggling with your weight, did you in effect catch a case of fat by learning poor eating and exercise habits from a friend or family member who was similarly infected by someone else?

If you smoke, do you light up because you were behaviorally contaminated by smokers who convinced you of the coolness of the habit? Even more important, if such unhealthy behaviors are contagious, are healthy ones–like quitting smoking or exercising–equally so? And what if not only behaviors but also moods and mental states work the same way?

Can you catch a case of happy? Increasingly, the answer seems to be yes.

That’s the intriguing conclusion from a body of work by Harvard social scientist Dr. Nicholas Christakis and his political-science colleague James Fowler at the University of California at San Diego. The pair created a sensation with their announcement earlier this month of a 20-year study showing that emotions can pass among a network of people up to three degrees of separation away, so your joy may, to a larger extent than you realize, be determined by how cheerful your friends’ friends’ friends are, even if some of the people in this chain are total strangers to you.

If that’s so, it creates a whole new paradigm for the way people get sick and, more important, how to get them healthy. It may mean that an individual’s well-being is the product not just of his behaviors and emotions but more of the way they feed into a larger social network. Think of it as health Facebook-style. “We have a collective identity as a population that transcends individual identity,” says Christakis. “This superorganism has an anatomy, physiology, structure and function that we are trying to understand.”

This is what I do…just shut the negatives off.  If a happy friend of a friend’s friend can help you be happy…so too can fear in a distant acquaintance help you be afraid. I focus instead on the positive side of the changes in man’s mindset that this downturn can bring..about having stuff…using natural resources…being more with friends and family…leading a simpler life.  These are changes humanity must make. Economics are usually the fastest guide.

How can we complain, if one of our greatest tasks in life is to stop using so much plastic and the economic slowdown stops us from buying as much junk?  How can we complain, when one of our greatest tasks is to reduce our carbon output when the economic slowdown stops us from driving so much?  How can we complain when when one of our greatest tasks in life is to rid ourselves on the dependence on fossil fuels when the economic slowdown enhances innovations for alternate energy?

We’ll see how this unfolds…but I have always seen myself as an investor and business person on the leading edge…writing about what Merri and I are actually doing…rather than theories.  We are always starting some new venture and venture capitalists see opportunity in recession.

Ventures are fun!

An excerpt from a recent article in USA Today about venture investors by Edward Iwata, says:  Ever the glowing optimists, venture capitalists here vowed this week that a backlog of healthy young companies — with $100 million-plus in annual revenue and growing — are poised to lift the economy and stock market next year when they get acquired or go public.

“Ignore the gloomy forecasts”, says Tim Draper, founder of the Draper Fisher Jurvetson venture firm in Silicon Valley. “Many successful start-ups were born or grew quickly during downturns. That includes Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Google, eBay and Fairchild Semiconductor, which launched the technology revolution in the 1950s.

“Each recession provides opportunities for renewal and growth,” Draper said. “The short-term view may be down, but the long-term view is fantastic.”

Draper and others even predict that new products and companies in clean technology, medical devices, wireless technology and other sectors will usher in a new economic era.

Some economists forecast that the U.S. economy won’t bounce back for several quarters. But that didn’t deter several hundred leading venture capitalists and entrepreneurs from spreading economic cheer at the Always On Venture Summit Silicon Valley at the Ritz-Carlton hotel here.

The article predicted a rebound after several quarters and went on to say:

Jeff Matthews, general partner at the RAM Partners hedge fund, said the current downturn is “absolutely the worst I’ve ever seen since the mid-1970s.” The upside? Wise investors will follow the example of legendary investor Warren Buffett, who bought all of the stocks he could afford in that recession 30 years ago.
“This is a cycle, a very terrible cycle,” Matthews says. “But this, too, shall pass.”

Tranquil Investing


Tranquil investing is important so this is our self declared Anti Panic Week.   We need tranquility because this is a period that could create anxiety times three.

Times of rapid change can make us anxious.

Wow, are we seeing changes now.

Times one: If you read the papers, everything seems bad!  Rising prices…falling dollars…illegal immigration…terrorism.  We seem to live in a different alien hostile world.

Times Two: Then there is the stock market…down and dropping.  Job losses are everywhere plus the sub prime loan mess.

Is this time to panic or not

Baloney.

This is a time of great opportunity!

However we cannot tap into the richness of this future if anxiety locks down our creativity!

This is especially true now because times three…is the summer heat! There is even more anxiety and anger when we are hot. Eastern hurricanes or drought, Midwest floods and Western fires can cause our anxiety to flair.

Anxiety shuts down our ability to survive and prosper during change, plus anxiety is not good for us!

A majority of the complaints in doctors’ offices today are related to stress including anxiety.

Writing prescriptions for sleeping pills or tranquilizers is the standard for MDs but this doesn’t solve the problem. In fact it produces even more anxiety in many cases.

Most anxiety comes when when we view change and pressure as burdens and threats.

Stress raises cholesterol, blood pressure, and lowers immunity. It kills brain cells, lowers IQ, and impairs memory and thinking. Cancer, heart disease, immuno-deficiency diseases and even the common cold are linked to stress. A study at Harvard, found that people with anxiety  were four times more likely to become ill.

Here are some nutritional, lifestyle and essential oil recommendations to help balance anxiety:

• Eat lots of sweet juicy fruits
• Favor sweet, bitter and astringent  tasting foods.  Greens and small beans such as lentils, for example.
• Drink a cup of warm milk with a small drop of real rose essential rose oil before bed.
• Cook with cooling spices such as cardamom, coriander, cilantro, and mint.
• Massage ears and feet every morning with coconut oil.  Have a full coconut oil massage if you can.
