Divided Issues – Survive & Prosper

Divided issues can sap our strength, ruin our business and destroy our investments.

How can we live when we are surrounded by divided issues on what is happening to the world?  Let’s examine this problem by using global warming as an example of a divided issue.  Then let’s look at a way to survive and prosper the dilemma of  fractured information.

The problem with divided issues is that there is always something we do not know so we have to depend on what we see, read, hear, touch, taste and feel.   We are mightily influenced by our surroundings and are typically raised in a surrounding of beliefs that we come to accept as fact, whether they are right or wrong.

The reality of global warming is just one of almost infinite examples of divided issues.

Wall Street Journal

This image from Wall Street Journal article, “Looming Floods, Threatened Cities” (1).  Reading that article can send shivers up one’s spine.

The article says: More than 60 percent of the freshwater on Earth is locked in Antarctica’s ice sheets.  The risk is clear: Antarctica’s collapse has the potential to inundate coastal cities across the globe.

Over tens of millions of years, thin layers of snow falling on the continent — in many places, just a light dusting every year — were pressed into ice, burying mountain ranges and building an ice sheet more than two miles thick. Under its own weight, that ice flows downhill in slow-moving streams that eventually drop icebergs into the sea.

If that ice sheet were to disintegrate, it could raise the level of the sea by more than 160 feet — a potential apocalypse, depending on exactly how fast it happened. Recent research suggests that if society burns all the fossil fuels known to exist, the collapse of the ice sheet will become inevitable.

The press is very divided about global warming though.  Another article in the UK’s Express “Ice in the Arctic and Antarctic is ‘not melting’, says global warming expert” says  “The North and South Poles are “not melting”, according to Dr Benny Peiser a global warming expert.”

An Ecowatch.com article “What’s Going on in Antarctica? Is the Ice Melting or Growing?” (3) Is it more balanced and says that ice shelves in Antarctica are melting but more ice is growing inland so Antarctica is actually reducing sea levels by a bit?

Our readers are divided in their opinions as well.  One reader responded to a recent article about global warming entitled “Investing in Silver Linings” saying the article was spot on.

The reader wrote: “I’ve been watching this coastal problem for a few years now and it’s already reduced the property value of a handful of homes in Miami to $0.   We are interested in the land just a quarter of a mile west where the elevation is above forty feet.  After looking through maps it seems that it is some of the first ‘high ground’ in Florida as you come up from the Keys.  Maybe the first landing place for the climate refugees from Miami?  The reason I’m contacting you is to pass along this article from Bloomberg: ‘The Nightmare Scenario for Florida’s Coastal Homeowners’ (4).  Demand and financing could collapse before the sea consumes a single house.  It’s a financial Tsunami that will hit South Florida before serious flooding takes place.”

Another reader had a totally different view.  This reader commented in completely the opposite way.  This reader’s commentary, based on the same article was:

Dear Mr. Scott:  Climate change is, indeed, a fact of life on this planet and always has been since day one.  But scientific fact does not support the “notion” of global warming.  There is an excellent book entitled “Cold Sun” by John L. Casey that discusses the lack of evidence to support global warming.  On the contrary, the evidence indicates that this planet, courtesy of our Sun, is slipping into the next cooling trend, which may be with us for longer than we would like.  Would that it was global warming.  That we could survive.  Global cooling, however, is much harder to survive.

So how should we invest?  How should we run our businesses?  How should we live?  Should we expect global warming, global cooling, or will temperatures and sea levels remain about the same?

Before I answer these questions, let’s be honest with ourselves, what do we really know?

Most of our beliefs are opinions.  In cases we might be willing to sacrifice our lives for a belief based on what we have been told in a closed environment yet we do not know if that opinion is really right or wrong.

Where is the Proof?

At the macro level of reality if we believe in physics and Quantum Mechanics the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle states that we cannot know the exact position of any particle if its momentum is known, and vice versa.

In physics, another law, called the observer effect, states that we cannot truly measure anything because the act of measuring changes the item measured.

That means life is making a series of decisions based on beliefs that ultimately can never be proved.

The reality is that we do not know what will happen to the climate and what changes it will bring.  I am banking on global warming and rising sea levels.  However I know that I do not really know so I invest in a way that might gain extra profit if I am right, but is not dependent on accuracy.  I do things I enjoy that is likely to do well whatever scenario unfolds.  I try to be sure that what I love is really what I love and not an idea that someone’s agenda has coaxed me into.

I also give economic news less credibility.   Most news is opinion  and  conjecture. A great deal of it is slanted toward numerous hidden agendas.  I focus instead on mathematically based financial news.   Let return on time and investment be an important (but not total) influence in business.  Look at price to earnings, price to book value and dividend yields to reflect true value in investments.   We cannot really know anything for sure, but within our global mindset, the equation 1 + 1 does always equal 2.  This is a reasonably dependable belief we can use for business and investing.

Integrate  the love and the math.  Figure out what you want to spend your time doing.  Look for how your activity can be of benefit to others and then make sure the process creates more than you spend.

The human condition is that we can never see what the future holds, but we can’t help but try.  We have to have beliefs to get through the day.  Knowing that our beliefs are actionable but may not always be correct, helps us have resilience and adaptability.  These are valuable qualities in our modern world where some of our most basic foundations of thought have been shaken.

Rely on your passions. Trust the everlasting value of service.  Do the math.  These three factors can help you survive and prosper in a world of divided truths.

If you want to study this subject of truth, the book “Why We Believe What We Believe: Uncovering Our Biological Need for Meaning, Spirituality, and Truth”  is based upon neurological research and correlates a wide range of human beliefs with specific perceptual, social, and biological factors.  The book looks at how some beliefs can enhance our physical and emotional well-being while others can function destructively, not only upon one’s self, but upon society as well.   The book looks at the biology of the brain as well as how belief is shaped by parents, peers, and society.

Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere

A huge economic struggle is taking place.

If that struggle is lost what’s left of our privacy, the safety of our food supply, the control over our health, the safety of our money and even the sanctity of our opinions and thoughts could be lost.

Almost half of America’s voters rejected the postwar global economic order.  England’s voters did this too.  This has left a cloud of uncertainty over the U.S. and world economies.

Markets and social order can collapse at any time.

Schools are not safe from shooters on the rampage.

Streets are in danger of terrorists ramming their cars into riders on bikes.

We are no longer safe… in shopping centers, at festivals, even in the church.

Yet the bigger danger grows.   This struggle is taking place, right now.

You can read about tiny parts of this conflict daily in the news.   Most of the clash however is hidden from view.  There are horrible consequences hidden beneath the visible spin.

There is an association forming that can ruin our health care, nutrition and the environment.  A group that can control what you read on the internet, see over cell phones, watch on TV and what trends in social media.

Everything you write or say can recorded and be used  to control what you hear and read.

The warning shot, above the surface, is the merger between Bayer and Monsanto.  This union is horrible enough, yet it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Seven companies are involved in a more sinister plot.

The momentum of this dangerous alliance has picked up faster than anticipated.

I began researching and preparing a report “Learn Anywhere, Earn Everywhere” when the Bayer-Monsanto merger was the big deal.   They are two of the seven firms involved in this almost invisible take-over of our food and medical services as well as the internet, cell phones and TV.

I started researching when I saw the hidden depths of this Bayer-Monsanto merger.  I was truly concerned and shocked because my research discovered that the consolidation of Bayer and Monsanto is not the biggest merger nor the most dangerous by far.

I miscalculated how much time we have.  I went to work on the report right away, taking my time to delve deeply, but even before I have finished the report, events have begun to heat up.   The pace of this hidden unification has increased.  Now another merger is taking place, far more destructive and the alliance has an incredible lobby program working to make sure that the deal goes through.

A triad of three huge concerns and four smaller ones with hundreds of billions of dollars have built one of the most formidable lobbying operations in Washington.  Nearly 100 registered lobbyists are already on retainer and they include former members of Congress.   One company in this heptagon is also the largest donor to federal lawmakers.

The donations we know of equal more than $11 million paid to 374 of the House’s 435 members and 85 of the Senate’s 100 members in this election cycle.

This deadly seven point affiliation is likely to snake into almost every part of our livelihood.

One part of the cartel will increase our dependence on modified food that can purposely increase our needs for pharmaceuticals manufactured and sold at outrageous prices by another arm of the group.

The organizations will know more about us than any other group in existence.  They will (in fact they already are) act as spies for the government.  This amalgamation will control what ads we see, the products we buy, listen into our phone calls and even monitor and influence what we see on TV.

Sadly most of the public will not even know that this fusion has taken place.  Life will appear to go on as normal.  They won’t even see the change as what’s left of their good life which could be drained away by corporate malfeasance.

This is why I am rushing a report to you so you can be one of the few who avoid the ruin of this alliance and gain rather than lose from the shift.

The report “Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere” contains seven steps we can take to gain benefits and protection from this cartel.

Here is some background.  At the beginning of the 20th century, Carl Duisberg, the head of Bayer, created a profit sharing cartel from three firms BASF, Bayer and Agfa, called the Dreibund (Triple Alliance) or little IG.

This German chemical association dominated commerce everywhere under the name of IG Farben, the largest company in Europe, the 4th largest anywhere and the largest chemical company in the world.

Because “Power Corrupts” this company morphed into something truly evil before and during the Second World War.

After WWII IG Farben was considered so morally corrupt it could not be allowed to continue to exist and was split into its original constituent companies.  Today Agfa, BASF, Sanofi and Bayer remain.

This is where facts become truly scary.  Some of these very same companies have merged with other mega concerns to create a new American Dreibund (a Triple Alliance dominating the USA).   This new cartel has such power it can take control of your food, your medicine and even influence, if not control, what you read and the information you access for health and wealth.  Even worse, they can monitor everything you do and give it to others in government and business as well.

From a political point of view we cannot do much about this alliance.   The cartel has hundreds of billions of dollars and hundreds of lobbyists.  They are making their big move right now, to take advantage of the current political distraction.  They know that after an election politicians are willing to accept bad news because it will be forgotten in four years.

In addition their greatest enemy in the government has only a couple of months left as the head of the Federal agency that will fight this cartel.

Only a few people will know how to take advantage of the shifts created from the results of this alliance.

The sooner we act, the greater the benefits.   This is why I want to rush my newest report “Live Anywhere-Earn Everywhere” to you.  This report shares how to protect what you have from this coalition that is taking over mainstream media, our food supply as well as our medical history, health care and communications.

Fortunately a loophole can set you free.  You can protect what you have and actually improve your situation, a lot.  Merri and I have already jumped though the loophole and want to share why and how you should too.

How to Gain Extra Freedom – While Almost Everyone Loses Theirs.  Become a Pruppie!

May I coin a new word, Pruppie?

We all know about preppers.  They believe that the world, as we know it, is about to end.  And we also know about Uppies, upward professionals as in Yuppies, young upward professionals.  Uppies expect their world to get better.

The reality is that our worlds have changed and for most of us, there is still great opportunity for a better lifestyle, yet the preppies could be right.

I invite you to join Merri and me as Pruppies, those who expect the world to get better and live and earn based on that expectation but enjoy a progressive lifestyle of freedom that also happens to prepare us for bad times as well as good.

Just in case… the world goes sideways… we will still survive and prosper anyway.  We do not give up anything much.  We can enjoy the good parts of the new economy, as we protect ourselves from what can be bad.

For example in this report, you’ll see how to make your dining room table bring you more control, more time, more income and more freedom.  After all, what can be more accessible than a dining room table?

ecuador-banks

You’ll even learn how to turn dining room tables into income and tax deductions as we have with these dining room tables we build out of local wood.

Let me be clear.  I expect that the world will get better, at least for the few who adapt and avoid the dangers the American Dreibund has planned for the public.  The wealth of the world, albeit with inequality, has continued to grow.  There is an incredible new economy that’s opening for those who know what to do.  There are great new opportunities and many of them offer enormous income potential and they even work well in disaster scenarios.

Let me provide one simple, concrete example.  Ginseng.

This is a great health root.  The demand is growing especially in China.  At times good dried Ginseng sells for $1,000 a pound!  This is an incredible and easy crop to grow.   The less care you give it, the more valuable it can become.  Yet if everything goes south, the health qualities will be good to have and make it an excellent barter item.  Once you know what to do with ginseng, it’s easy to grow in your back yard.

Even better one of the best kept secrets is that ginseng and 125 other medicinal crops that are currently unsustainable but can be grown on land  that is extraordinarily cheap.

goldenseal ginseng

Ginseng growing in our back yard.  I know about growing ginseng through experience and explain why and how in the report.

There are are specific places that reduce your living expenses, easily increase your income, make you smarter, healthier and provide tax benefits as well.

Learn about these specific places.  More important learn what makes these places special and seven freedom producing steps that you can use to find other similar spots of opportunity.

Here are some of the experiences this report shares:

The report includes a tax and career plan broken into four age groups, before you finish school, from age 25 to 50 – age 50-to 65 and what to do when you reach the age where tradition wants you to re-tire.  (Another clue-you do not need to retire and probably should not).

The report is very specific because it is about what Merri and I, our children and even my sister and thousands of our readers have done and are doing.

Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere focuses on a system that takes advantage of living in Smalltown USA, but earning globally.

  • Learn about the magic of the north facing slope.   This is where Merri and I live almost half of our time.  North facing mountain land is some of the least expensive in the world but has hidden values that the report reveals.  There is a lot of this land and a lot of hidden value that you can tap.   When we bought our Blue Ridge farm (252 acres) I mentioned this to my Swiss banking friend.  “That’s bigger than the entire village where I live!” was his response.  Smalltown USA offers a last chance at having a lot of space.  By living in two Smalltown places there are enormous tax advantages as well.  One step in the system saves Merri and me over $28,345 in taxes a year.

The report shows how to buy cheap north facing slopes and create an income producing tiny home for $29,000 or less.

If you lack the $29,000 to invest, a start up using tents is even less.  These are tipis we put up at our farm before we built our first tiny home.  Learn how they can create tens of thousands of dollars in income for you.

Fwd: gary-scott-tipis

  • See ways that small businesses like Tipi rentals can create BIG tax savings as well as extra income.  For more than 30 years Merri and I have enjoyed a strong six figure income, some years more, in the millions.  Yet there have been very few years when we had to pay federal income tax.  The report lays out a three structure program and how it is used when you are in school (up to age 30), then from 25 to 50, 50 to 70  and beyond 70.   Learn why Chapter C corporations and pensions can be better than the normally recommended Chapter S.  See how new mileage log rules gives you a possible opportunity to increase your tax deductions using IRS Form 4562.  Using a two-vehicle strategy you can gain $12,976 in new deductions even if you do not have to drive one mile further or spend one additional penny on your car.
  • See how a greenhouse can help you eat better and be healthier, plus provide income and a tax deduction and be funded by a government grant.

gary-scott-farming

Our North Carolina greenhouse.

Our Florida greenhouse.

  • There are similar benefits from having a second home office defined in IRS publication 463 and IRS publication 587, even if your desk is a dining room table.  The report also shows how your dining room table can become an actual income producer as its creates a huge tax deduction at the same time, not to mention a great place to eat, work and lay out plans for a brighter, safer more lucrative and enjoyable future.
  • Living in this environment is also healthier, economically as well as physically.  You’ll see in the report how researchers at Harvard found an amazing correlation between living in conditions found on north facing slopes, longevity and mental health.  The researchers were quite surprised by this strong correlation that also extended into mental health.  In addition to feeling better, reducing stress and having more Joie de Vivre the places outlined in “Live Anywhere-Earn Everywhere” can help you avoid hospitals, high cost disease management (aka health care) and BIG pharma while providing an investment opportunity in three plants that have some of the fastest growing demand in natural health care.  These three plants are just one of seven business opportunities that can create multiple streams of income.
  • How changes in cell phone and internet technology eliminated the need to be in one place.   An old law that creates new opportunity for small business in small towns is available to everyone.
  • Use the specific search and purchase guide.  Construction plans are included that show how to generate first tier income that leads to five, second tier avenues of earnings.
  • How to pay off old debt and avoid new debt by avoiding spurts and embracing value.
  • Learn seven skills that will always have value.  See how to turn First Aid, medicinal plants, hospitality, food, trees, alternate energy and writing to sell into everlasting, low stress wealth.

Investing in Silver Linings

Smart investors look for the clouds so they can spot the silver linings.

Take for example the problem of climate change and rising seas.

geogarage.com

Image from geogarage.com (1)

One can argue over weather climate change is man made or not, but smart investors let others waste their time bickering and look for the silver lining instead.  Wise investors ask, “if global warming is a fact, what can I do about it?”.

Global warming will create innumerable problems.  One huge concern is America’s population crowded along the coast.  In Florida for example porous bedrock, and tropical storms put about 1.3 million homes at risk from storm surges.  Florida, has the most of any state by far (nearly half the risk nationwide).  A recent Florida Atlantic University study estimated that just 6 more inches of sea level rise — very plausible within two decades — would cripple about half of South Florida’s flood control capacity.

What’s the silver lining?  Florida spacious high ground.  I am taking advantage of this myself, having invested in a Mt. Dora (the highest town in Florida) home rental business.  The sun still shines in Florida.  State income tax is still non existent. People are still pouring in.  I believe they will continue to do so, but they will need homes in higher elevations.  I want the people do that.

Look for areas of flooding and invest in high ground near by.  You can check how vulnerable any area in the US is at Surgingseas.org (2).

This website has an analysis that factors in local sea level rise projections, storm-surge patterns and tides, as well as local topography and patterns of development.  They have mapped and evaluated risk in 3,000 towns, cities and counties across the lower 48 states, including South Florida, and have a free, ZIP code-searchable interactive map with neighborhood views and risk information at SurgingSeas interactive map (3).

For example here is a shot I took from this site of Tampa now.

surgingseas.org

and the flooding risk if the temperature rise two degrees C.

surgingseas.org

Sea level rise is already increasing flood threats everywhere.  It’s set to become an even greater problem much sooner than most people expect.  This is a huge cloud over much of the world and the problem creates many silver linings.

Borrow Low – Invest High

A special value investing tactic makes high risk, high profit speculations safer and more profitable.

For example in 2015, a 10,000 pound loan (in British pounds at $1.52 per pound) was used to purchase 1,091 shares of the silver ETF SLV.  Those shares rose to be worth $20,421 by 2016, a 34.34% additional profit.

From July 2015 to July 2016, the price of the silver ETF  iShares Silver Trust (Symbol SLV) rose from $13.92 and ounce to $18.71.  You can see the rise in the finance.yahoo.com chart below.

yahoo

A 10,000 pound loan (the pound was $1.52 per pound) purchased 1,091 shares of the silver ETF SLV.   Those shares rose to be worth $20,421 by 2016,  a 34.34% additional profit.

The profit did not stop there!

From 2015 to 2016 the pound dropped from $1.52 dollars per pound to only $1.39 dollars.  The 10,000 pound loan that had worth $15,200 in 2015 only required $13,900 to pay it off in 2016.

yahoo pound chart

The falling pound had created an extra $1,300 profit.

Do the math:

Silver worth $20,421

Loan payoff  $13,900

Profit             $6,521

Cash Required  Zero

All this profit was made on the 10,000 pound loan.  No cash was required on the investor’s part.

The entire $6,521 was pure… extra profit.

Some investors borrowed less… others borrowed much more so their profits were even higher.

This example came from our Purposeful investing Course (Pi) which studies three main layers of value investing tactics in real time.

Tactic #1: Diversify equally in good value developed and emerging stock markets.
Tactic #2:  Use trending algorithms to increase, reduce or hold positions in these markets.
Tactic #3:  Add spice to a portfolio speculating in precious metals, when their price is under “ideal conditions”, using leveraged, low value currency loans.

An “ideal condition” is a rare distortion in an economic fundamental that history has shown “almost always” corrects itself.

The words “almost always” indicates that there is risk.  There is risk that a basic fundamental has changed and the distortion will not correct in any targeted period of time.   Or a new fundamental has shifted dynamics to such an extent that the distortion never corrects.  There is always risk.

Profit is the reward for taking that risk, but there is always a chance of loss which is why the third layer speculation is to be used like a spice… sparingly.

Pi looks for several ideal conditions in precious metals using the price of gold based on over 40 years of speculation in precious metals.

The first condition is gold’s price to inflation.   Gold is the anchor of the strategy but its ricing is perhaps the most speculative since a meaningful inflation rate is hard to define.

Gaining a true perspective on gold’s value is difficult because the price of gold was fixed for many years.  The gold price was fixed at $35 an ounce at the end of WWII and this fixing did not take into account the huge inflation this conflict created.   This also impacts any accuracy in understanding what the real the price of gold should have been at the end of the war.

Statistics can be misleading.  In the report Platinum Dip 2018 there is an analysis of inflation.

These factors distort the accuracy of the picture.  How much is gold really worth now?  What is its real value?  This is truly THE golden question.

At this time the magic number we sue for gold is $1,225 an ounce.  If gold’s price is much higher than $1,225, than the Silver Dip or Platinum Dip are not in an ideal condition.

When gold is priced ideally, then there are several ratios that can alert us to an ideal condition.

The first ratio is the gold to silver ratio.  When the gold silver ratio reaches 80 we consider speculation in silver to be ideal (if gold is ideally priced).

This value indicator is simple because the gold silver ratio is rarely as high as 80, only three times in 36 years as the chart below shows.

gold silver spread

Chart from www.goldprice.org/gold-silver-ratio.html#36_year_gold_price

The spread was over 80 when we issued the original Silver Dip in the 1980s.  30 years later ideal conditions coincided again. The chart above shows how the spread was shooting towards 80 when we issued the Silver Dip 2015 report.

The spread hit 80 in 2015 and again in March 2016, but we can see from the chart above that a drop in the spread was on its way. The trend was for a continued lowering of the spread as silver’s price rise was much stronger than gold’s throughout 2016.

This chart below from infomine.com shows the trend clearly.

silver

http://www.infomine.com/investment/price-ratios/gold-silver/10-year/

Another ratio we watch is the gold to platinum ratio.   When the price of gold rises above the price of platinum, platinum’s price is at an ideal condition.

Platinum is a good value when it sells for less than gold and gold is close to our below its fair price ($1,225).   As the chart below shows, platinum costs more than gold more often than not.  The fundamental reasons for platinum’s high price, including platinum’s supply scarcity support this.

The chart below from Kitco.com shows the gold-platinum ratio.  The ratio is the red line and right axis.  The price of gold is the yellow line, left axis.  The price of platinum is the blue line, left axis, from 1975 to May 13, 2016.

gold

http://www.kitco.com/commentaries/2016-06-27/Gold-to-Platinum-Ratio.html

Notice how each time the gold-platinum ratio (red) has spiked, 1975, 1982, 1985, 2002, 2009, shortly after the price of platinum (blue line) has skyrocketed shortly after.

The gold-platinum ratio was at an almost  historical low when this report was written and the “Silver Dip 2017” recommended a shift from speculating  in silver to speculating in platinum. The 2017 report recommended leveraging the platinum ETF “ETFS Physical Platinum Shares” (Symbol) PPLT.

The spice.  This type of speculating is not done on its own, but as an adjunct that enhances an existing equity portfolio.  The portfolio is used as collateral for a loan that is invested in the metal with an “ideal condition price”.

Let’s examine how a speculation in silver (based on a gold silver ratio’s ideal condition) increased the profits of a portfolio of good value developed and emerging market equity ETFs.

This study looks at the $100,000 invested in a portfolio we began tracking in our Pi course.  The portfolios were started September 2015 (591 days before this study or 17 months ago).  70% was invested in ten good value developed market ETFs and 30% in 10 good value emerging market ETFs.

This is a list of the shares in the Developed Market Portfolio.

Screen Shot 2017-02-19 at 12.30.18 PM

This is a list of the shares in the Emerging Market Portfolio.

Screen Shot 2017-02-19 at 12.30.55 PM

The good value portfolio was up 4.64% (a gain of $3,248) since inception and the emerging market portfolio is up 6.72% (a gain of $2,016).

A portfolio of these shares with an original investment of $100,000 invested 70%-30% after 591 days (February 2017) was worth $105,267, a 5.26% gain.

In this study we examine the change in performance when an additional $10,000 was risked on the iShares Silver ETF (Symbol SLV) beginning March 2016 when the gold silver ratio broached 80.

Image from www.macrotrends.net/1441/gold-to-silver-ratio

The price of SLV was $14.01 in March 2016 and is currently $17.06.

Image from https://finance.yahoo.com/chart/slv?

Let’s examine profits under three different exit strategies.

Exit strategy #1:  No exit.  The $10,000 was worth $12,163 at the time of this study (February 2017).

Exit Strategy #2: Exit when Tradestops issued a Stop Loss signal November 2016 at a price of $16.07 per share.  The $10,000 was worth $11,457.

Exit Strategy #3: Exit when the Gold silver ratio dropped below 70 on January 2017.  The $10,000 was worth $11,365.

The overall portfolio performance was improved in each situation.

Exit strategy #1:  Profits increased from $5,267 to $7,430.  A 10% increase in the portfolio added a 41% increase in profit.

Exit Strategy #2: Profits increased from $5,267 to $6,724.  A 10% increase in the portfolio added a 27% increase in profit.

Exit Strategy #3: Profits increased from $5,267 to $6,632.  A 10% increase in the portfolio added a 26% increase in profit.

All of these additional profits were gained without a penny of extra investment.  All the profits came from loans that were invested in silver.

The other benefit beyond profit is safety from time.

When leveraging investments, time is most important.  Because leverage is secured by the entire portfolio rather than just the additional investment, the odds of a margin call are almost nil so the investor gets to determine how long the investment will have to mature.

Let’s take an example of the good value Pifolio above.

In this study the loan was $10,000.

The collateral is not the $10,000 investment in silver, but the entire portfolio which is now $115,267 ($105,267 plus the $10,000 in silver).

This means (if the rules of the lender requires a two to one loan ratio) that the portfolio would have to drop around 75% before there would be a margin call.  Such a loss is highly unlikely.

This margin has as much time as is needed to let fundamental forces work through the market.

Any profit gained comes without adding a penny to the portfolio.

The most important elements of making good investments are price and time.  There is always something about investments we won’t know, but the one thing we can trust is that investments purchased at the right price, and given time, have the highest odds that profits will flow.

Silver is falling.

slv

Chart from finance.yahoo.com/chart/SLV?

Recently the silver ETF iShares Silver Trust (symbol SLV)  was priced 18.62% below the highest close of $19.60 from last August.   The mathematical system we track created a stop loss price of $16.18, showing that this precious metal moved into selling territory.  Now the share price is in the $15 per ounce range.

We Use Math to Spot Value.

Whether one likes to trade or invest and hold, math based financial information works better than the spin, rumor and conjecture of the daily economic news.   Mathematical based investing can put us on a solid path to everlasting wealth that is not easily diverted by the daily drama that seems to be unfolding in the modern world.

For example, our Purposeful investing Course teaches three mathematically based routines that have been proven to out perform the market over time .

The first routine in the course is the quarterly examination by Keppler Asset Management of 43 equity markets and analysis of their value.  This makes it possible to create a base portfolio of Country ETFs based on basic value.  This passive approach to investing in ETFs is simply to invest in Country ETFs of good value equity markets.

For example, Keppler’s analysis in 2017 shows that the “Good Value Developed Market” Portfolio is twice the value of a US market index fund and a much better value than any of the other indices shown.  These are based on the cornerstones of value, price to book, price to earnings and dividend yield (except the European dividend yield).

The Good Value Developed Market Portfolio offers even better value than the Morgan Stanley Capital Index  Emerging Market Index.

History shows, that over the long run, math and value drive the price of markets.

Using math makes it simple, easy and inexpensive to diversify in the predictability of good value.

The second tool Pi provides is a way to actively monitor and shift the good value markets using trending and volatility algorithms.  These algorithms allow us to trade good value markets through downtrends and upticks to increase profits in a diversified even more.

These trending algorithms use the math that spotted the current condition of silver.

Use math to spot distortions that create ideal conditions for speculation.

Pi teaches the strategy of speculating in metals when speculative conditions are absolutely ideal.  The Silver Dip relies on a really simple theory… gold should rise about the same rate as other basic goods and the rise and fall of silver’s and platinum’s price should maintain a parity with gold.

Our math based study has created an ideal price for gold and though its trending up it has passed the good value level we use.  Gold is still okay, but not a bargain any more.  Value investors only seek bargains.

When “Silver Dip 2017” was written profits on silver had been taken.

Platinum conditions are ideal for 2018.

Since 2014 the price of platinum has fallen below the price of gold and at the beginning of this year reached a historical low.  The distorted gold platinum spread suggests that platinum is a very good value so we are updating our dip report, and it will be the “Platinum Dip 2018”.

The report explains how to speculate in platinum plus outlines the following:

  • How to use theDip strategy in platinum without adding a penny of cash if you already have investments.
  • How to invest as little as a thousand dollars in platinum if you do not have a current investment portfolio.
  • Why this is a speculation, not an investment and who should and should not speculate and how to limit losses and take profits.
  • Three reasons conditions are better for a Platinum Dip now.
  • Three different ways to invest and speculate in gold, silver or platinum in the US or abroad.
  • How to buy gold and silver or platinum with or without dollar leverage margin accounts.

The “Platinum Dip 2018” also contains four matrices that calculate profits and losses so investors can determine cut off positions in advance to protect profits and/or losses.  The report also looks at how to switch time horizons for greater safety.

The first way the Dip adds extra performance is with leverage.

The second way to enhance performance is to maintain the leverage in poor value currencies.   Choosing which currencies to borrow is almost as important as choosing which metal to invest in.  The examples in this report have shown loans made in British pounds.  Other times it has been better to borrow Japanese yen, Swiss francs, once Mexican pesos.

Currently the best currency to borrow is US dollars.

The Platinum Dip 2018 report reviews each currency and which is best to borrow now and what to watch for.  Sometimes it is best to borrow a second currency and pay off the initial loan in mid stream.

Rising interest rates make the US stock market highly dangerous in the short term. “The Platinum Dip 2017” shows how to create a safe, diversified good value stock portfolio and use it to generate much higher returns with a little controlled speculation in platinum.

Learn how to get platinum loans for as low as 1.58%.  See why to beware of  certain brokers and trading platforms, how to choose a good bank or broker and how platinum profits are taxed.

The report includes a complex comparison of gold and silver with other costs of living from 1942 to today to help determine the real value of gold, silver and platinum.

Finally, learn why and how to use advisers to manage profits from the gold and silver dips.

Current circumstances could cause the price of platinum to rise rapidly at any time.  Do not delay reading this report.

The Value of Chicken Little

Hope springs eternal and value is a signpost that leads along the hopeful path.  One of the key themes in my first book, Passport to International Profit, (published in the 1970s) was “The sun always shines somewhere”.  This thought has been in and remains a foundation of everything I do.

Decades of studies of global stock market cycles suggest we’ll see a serious short term equity correction.  The current market rise has lasted much longer than history suggests.  This means a sharper, faster contraction will take place when it comes.

This means enormous opportunity is ahead.  The most important lesson I have learned in fifty years of writing and speaking about investing and actually investing globally for 48 years is to invest as much as is possible during stock market crashes.

keppler

This chart shows the entire real-time forecasting history of Keppler Asset Management Inc. for the KAM Equally Weighted World Index.  Keppler’s projections are based on relationships between price and value over the previous fifteen years.  These are moving forward in monthly increments so they thus evolve steadily to an ever-changing norm.  Starting in October 2008, the actual performance of the index fell below the lower forecast band, where it stayed through April 2014 (5 years and 7 months). Since then, the Index  has fallen below the lower forecast band again this year in February as well as in May and June. In the past, index levels below the lower forecast band turned out to be attractive entry points for long-term investors.

Look at how well long term investors who added extra investments during the 2000 and 2007 crashes have profited.

Create a strategy of having fun by investing in what you know.  Knowing the basics behind your investments is important because belief in the idea is vital.  Yet risk is always our partner.  Even when we invest in what we know, there will be events we cannot see or expect.  Integrating what we love and know with value, reduces risk.

Embrace risk.  Adapt.  Look for contrasts and trends.  Seek value.  Bet the most on the positive when events are the most negative.

Expect that the World Will Remain Standing!

The press always focuses on doom and gloom.  Current news always makes the world seem about to end.

Yet despite all the negative headlines, we have lived through the Cold War and MAD, Y2K, GridX II, the Peak Oil Crisis. etc. etc. etc.  Chicken Little is always out there, selling the sky is falling.  Don’t buy into this story!

History suggests that there will always be opportunity.  The sun always shines somewhere.

See three economic events where the forecasts and news got it seriously wrong (from Wall Street Journal article below).

Brexit is the latest example of how negative news can blind us to reality.  After Brexit, the advice in our Purposeful investing Course  (Pi) was “Invest More” in the UK.    This is because we rely on financial news instead of economic news.

A Wall Street Journal article last week, “When Economic Doomsayers Stumble: Cautionary Tales From Brexit, Grexit and U.S. Budget Battles” (1) firmed up why numbers should be trusted more than conjecture and opinion.

The article says: Experts often look to stay ahead of worst-case scenarios, building up a long list of cataclysms that never were.

It’s early, but data so far suggest the British decision to leave the European Union could be another example of a recurring phenomenon: expert predictions of dire consequences to political decisions that end up proving overheated.

“Forecasters often feel incentivized to pump up the probability of worst-case scenarios” said Philip Tetlock, an expert in political forecasting at the University of Pennsylvania. Forecasters may inflate the probability of disasters, as a way to increase the salience of a warning, or because they believe that proving prescient will be something they can boast about, while proving mistaken will be something most people forget. “Over time, this has some corrosive effect on trust in the expert community,” he said.  In the immediate aftermath of the vote, many market economists forecast recession would begin almost immediately.

It’s now been two months since British voters on June 23 cast their ballots to exit from the European Union, and it’s becoming unclear if the recession so many feared will materialize—at least in the near term.  The FTSE 100 (The London Stock Market Index) climbed to near-record levels by the middle of August.  Nor has the wider economy shown many signs of a coming downturn.  The leading U.K. home builder, Persimmon PLC, said interest in home buying has remained “robust” and predicted good autumn sales.

The Brexit advice at this site was not based on our knowledge of the UK economy.  We did not turn to a review of European history.  We did not simply take a contrarian view.  The UK was a good value market, before, during and after Brexit.  Consequently  UK shares were already part of  our portfolio.  Brexit simply improved the value.  Based on this, our advice was “Don’t sell UK shares.  If you want some extra speculation, buy a bit more”.

A comparison from the “Keppler Asset Management Summer 2016 Developed Market Analysis” shows why it was easy to recommend a UK country ETF  as an equally weighted  part of a good value portfolio.

keppler

Shares in the UK were selling at 1.74 time book and 21.5 times price earnings.  The average dividend yield in the UK markets was 4.15%. Compare this to the US share average of 2.83 times book 22 times earnings and  with a 2.13% average dividend.

In other words UK shares were selling for almost 40% less price to book than US shares and paying almost double dividends.

The Pi strategy is to hold equally weighted amounts of  country ETFs in good value developed and emerging markets (70% developed and 30% emerging).  Brexit  made no change from that basic platform.  The fall of the British pound created an extraordinary opportunity for those who wanted to speculate.  Our Pi course reviewed two opportunities, add an extra weighting of the British market ETF, or even riskier but with greater potential, add an extra weighting of the British market ETF using a US dollar margin  loan.

We live in a very positive world.  So many incredibly wonderful events take place every day that it is not worth mentioning in the news.  This leaves a void filled by the worst negative drama enhanced by opinion and conjecture.  Bad news sells papers (and visits to websites) while financial news can be boring.

Take advantage of the fact that as the thundering herd panics and rushes from one potential cliff to another, it is usually wrong.  There is no cliff.  The signs created by panic are simply deviations that eventually lead back to the true path to profit best signposted  by good value.

Investing Beyond the Boom

Warren Buffet once warned against the Cinderella effect.

He said “Don’t be fooled by that Cinderella feeling you get from great returns.  Nothing sedates rationality like large doses of effortless money.  After a heady experience of that kind, normally sensible people drift into behavior akin to that of Cinderella at the ball.  They know the party must end but nevertheless hate to miss a single minute of what is one helluva party.  Therefore, the giddy participants all plan to leave just seconds before midnight. There’s a problem, though: They are dancing in a room in which the clocks have no hands.”

Cinderella may have lost a shoe when she fled the party to meet a midnight curfew.  We can lose much more when we rush from a crashing stock market.

Most investors face emotional dangers that build in rising markets.

Almost everyone feels good.

But the he clock of economic reckoning is ticking.

No wants to see it.  Nothing rises forever and especially… not everything at the same time.

Yet no one wants to leave the party until the end.

But many edge closer to the door.

When the clock chimes there could be a stampede even though leaving in a hurry may be the worst way to go.

Here are seven steps that can help avoid this risk.

  • Choose investments based on markets instead of shares.
  • Diversify based on value.
  • Rely on financial information rather than economic news.
  • Keep investing simple.
  • Keep investing costs low.
  • Trade as little as possible.
  • Make the decision process during panics automatic.

One strategy is to invest in country ETFs that easily provide diversified, risk-controlled investments in countries with stock markets of good value.  These ETFs provide an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value.  Little management and less guesswork is required.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual funds.  Plus a single country ETF provides diversification equal to investing in dozens, even hundreds of shares.

A minimum of knowledge, time, management or guesswork are required.

The importance of…

easy…

transparent…

and inexpensive.

Keeping investing simple is one of the most valuable, but least looked at, ways to avoid disaster.  Simple and easy investing saves time.  How much is your time worth?  Simple investing costs less and avoids fast decisions during stressful times in complex situations where we are most likely to get it wrong.

Fear, regret and greed are an investor’s chief problem.  Human nature causes  investors to sell winners too soon, and hold losers too long.

Easy to use, low cost, mathematically based habits and routines help protect against negative emotions and impulse investing.

Take control of your investing.  Make decisions based on data and discipline, not gut feelings.  The Purposeful investing Course (Pi) teaches math based, low cost ways to diversify in good value markets and in ETFs  that cover these markets.  This course is based on my 50 years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

Enjoy Repeated Wealth With Pi

Pi’s mission is to make it easy for anyone to have a strategy and tactics that continually maintain safety and turn market turmoil into extra profit.

One secret is to invest with a purpose beyond the immediate returns.  This helps create faith in a strategy that adds stickiness to the plan.

Another tactic is to invest with enough staying power so you’re never caught short.

Never have to sell depressed assets during periods of loss.

Lessons from Pi are based on the creation and management of Model Portfolios, called Pifolios.

The success of Pifolios is based on ignoring economic news (often created by someone with vested interests) and using financial math that reveals deeper economic truths.

One Pifolio covers all the good value developed markets.  Another covers the emerging good value markets.

The Pifolio analysis begins with a continual research of 46 major stock markets that compares their value based on:

#1:  Current book to price

#2:  Cash flow to price

#3:  Earnings to price

#4:  Average dividend yield

#5:  Return on equity

#6:  Cash flow return.

#7:  Market history

This is a complete and continual study of almost all the developed major and emerging stock markets.

This mathematical analysis forms the basis of a Good Value Stock Market Strategy.   The analysis is rational, mathematical and does not worry about short term ups and downs.

This strategy is easy for anyone to follow and use.  Pi reveals the best value markets and provides contacts to managers and analysts and Country Index ETFs so almost anyone can create and follow their own strategy.

The course examines and regularly reports on the hows and whys of seven professionally managed portfolios so we can learn how managers find and invest in good value.  The Pifolios are:

  • Keppler Good Value Developed and Emerging Market Pifolios
  • State Street Global Advantage Emerging & Developed Market Pifolios
  • Gold & Silver Dip Pifolio
  • ENR Advisory Extra Pifolio
  • Tradestops.com Trailing Stops Pifiolio

As you can see in this image (click to enlarge) the top performing Pifolio we are tracking is the State Street Global Advantage Pifolio was up 43.15%.  Here is the breakdown of that current Pifolio.

You also receive two special reports.

In the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffett explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said:  Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

I did well then, but always thought, “I should have invested more!”  Now those circumstances have come together and I am investing in them again.

The circumstances that created fortunes 30 years ago were an overvalued US market (compared to global markets) and an overvalued US dollar.  The two conditions are in place again!

30 years ago, the US dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern is growing and could create up to 50% extra profit if we start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I have created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but included links to 153 pages of  Good Value Stock Market research and Asset Allocation Analysis.

The report shows 20 good value investments and a really powerful tactic that shows the most effective and least expensive way to accumulate these bargains in large or even very small amounts (less than $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

This report sells for $29.95 but in this special offer, you receive the report, “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

Plus get the $39.95 report “The Silver Dip 2018” free.

With investors watching global stock markets bounce up and down, many missed two really important profit generating events over the last two years.  The price of silver dipped below $14 an ounce as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).   The second event is that the silver gold ratio hit 80, compared to a ratio of 230 only two years before.

In September 2015, I prepared a special report “Silver Dip 2015” about a silver speculation, leveraged with a British pound loan, that could increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The tactics described in that report generated 62.48% profit in just nine months.

I have updated this report and added how to use the Silver Dip Strategy with platinum.   The “Silver Dip 2017” report shares the latest in a series of long term lessons gained through 40 years of speculating and investing in precious metals.  I released the 2015 report, when the gold silver ratio slipped to 80.  The ratio has corrected and that profit has been taken and now a new precious metals dip has emerged.

I have prepared a new special report “Silver Dip 2018” about a leveraged speculation that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.

seminars

Tens of thousands have paid up to $999 to attend.

This year I celebrated my 50th anniversary of writing about global investing.  Our reports and seminars have helped readers have better lives, with less stress yet make fortunes during up and down markets for decades.  This information is invaluable to investors large and small because even small amounts can easily be invested in the good value shares we cover in our seminar.

Stock and currency markets are cyclical.  These cycles create extra profit for value investors who invest when everyone else has the markets wrong.  One special seminar session looks at how to spot value from cycles.  Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics.  Cycles create recurring profits.  Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 to 20 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns can create war.

The chart above shows the war – stock market cycle.  Military struggles (like the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the Cold War: WW III) super charge inventiveness that creates new forms of productivity…the steam engine, the internal combustion engine,  production line processes, jet engines, TV, farming techniques, plastics, telephone, computer and lastly during the Cold War, the internet.  The military technology shifts to domestic use.  A boom is created that leads to excess.  Excess leads to correction. Correction creates an economic downturn and again to war.

Details in the online seminar include:

* How to easily buy global currencies, shares and bonds.

* Trading down and the benefits of investing in real estate in Small Town USA.  We will share why this breakout value is special and why we have been recommending good value real estate in this area since 2009.

* What’s up with gold and silver?  One session looks at my current position on gold and silver and asset protection.  We review the state of the precious metal markets and potential problems ahead for US dollars.  Learn how low interest rates eliminate  opportunity costs of diversification in precious metals and foreign currencies.

* How to improve safety and increase profit with leverage and staying power.  The seminar reveals Warren Buffett’s value investing strategy from research published at Yale University’s website.  This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios). His big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of out performance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio, the better the odds of outstanding success.

Learn how much leverage to use.  Leverage is like medicine, the key is dose.  The best ratio is normally 1.6 to 1.  We’ll sum up the strategy; how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on the times and each individual’s circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

The online seminar also reveals  the results of a $80,000 share purchase cost test that found the least expensive way to invest in good value.  The keys to this portfolio are good value, low cost, minimal fuss and bother.  Plus a great savings of time.  Trading is minimal, usually not more than one or two shares are bought or sold in a year.  I wanted to find the very least expensive way to create and hold this portfolio so I performed this test.

I have good news about the cost of the seminar as well.   For almost three decades the seminar fee has been $799 for one or $999 for a couple. Tens of thousands paid this price, but online the seminar is $297.

Cash in on Errors of Thought

In 2016, we can expect a correction in the US equity market, maybe even one that is severe.  Many will be thinking it’s time to exit equities and invest instead in deposits and bonds as interest rates riseThis can make the stock market fall even further and create a huge opportunity because expecting higher interest rates may be an error of thought.

NYT chart

Click on chart to enlarge. Chart from New York Times article “Why very low interest rates may stick around”. (1)

The article reveals a longer arc of history, than most of us have.   Most of us have an economic mindset based on the 7.3 percent interest rate average experienced in the United States from 1970 to 2007.   This rate average, when looked at in a longer view, is a real aberration.  Different investment scenario possibilities emerge. The low interest rates of the past half decade may not be the “new normal”.  Instead, it could be that we have really returned to the old normal.

History before 1970 shows that low interest rates often persisted for many decades whenever inflation is quiet.

The error could be created by the same process that is being used to expect continual global warming as being created by humans.  The longest-running temperature record is the Central England temperature data series, that started in 1659.  The earth has been around for 4 or 5 billion years, yet our base of understanding comes from a few hundred years of records that give us a norm.

A Telegraph article entitled “AGW? I refute it THUS” (2) shows how erroneous such thinking may be as it reviews an analysis of the Central England Temperature, dataset from 1659.  This is oldest temperature dataset in the world with 351 years of temperature records drawn from “multiple weather stations located both in urban and rural areas of England”. This is considered a decent proxy for Northern Hemisphere temperatures and the analysis shows that far from being dramatic, dangerous and unprecedented, Central England Temperature changes in the late 20th and 21st Century have in fact been quite tediously uneventful.

This is not to say that global warming is not dangerous to our society and wealth as we know it.  Nor is this to say that low interest rates are not dangerous to our plans on how to manage savings and wealth.

The danger, however, is not frigid interest rates or warm temperatures.

The danger is making long term plans based on short term thinking, because a 50 year view of interest rates or a 350 year view of weather may be short term.  One reason there is always something we do not know when we invest is because many factors are influenced by patterns that are longer than any history we know or experience we have gained.  This  is why it is the best way to manage savings by making long term decisions based on value.

When looking to buy anything, especially shares, look at its absolute valuation, its relative valuation, its current versus historic valuation and its current relative versus relative historic valuation.  This will help protect against errors of thought created by long term patterns that we cannot see.

Gain From the Volatility of the Next Four Years

However America’s politics turn out, one thing is sure.  There will be volatility in stock markets during the next four years.

The first reason markets will bounce has nothing to do with politics or policies.   The market’s downward shift is simply due regardless of the party or the person in office.

Second the new politics will create an uncertain era. Everyone is shaken whether they are pleased with the election or not and nothing frightens markets like uncertainty.

Third we’ll see rising interest rates over the next 48 months. This will push markets down.

Despite these pitfalls, there is a way to profit using the downtrends  to pick up good value shares.

During nearly five decades of global investing I have noticed found that good value strategies increase through bull markets and bear, through good presidents and bad.  The steps to take are simple.

The first tactic is to seek safety before profit.

We can look at Warren Buffett’s investing strategy as an example.  Buffett success is talked about a lot, but rarely does anyone explain how he make so much money.  That was the fact until some researchers really stripped his operation bare.  They looked at everything and learned the deepest of Buffett’s wealth management secrets.  Fortunately they published all in a research paper at Yale University’s website. that reveals important truths about extending wealth.

This research shows that the stocks Buffett chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price – to – book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios).

The second tactic is to maintain staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of outperformance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.  Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio the better the odds of outstanding success.

The Buffett strategy integrates time and value for safety and profit.

A third tactic is using limited leveraging, tactic in the strategy boosts profit.  Buffett leverages his portfolio at a ratio of approximately 1.6 to 1.   The Yale published research paper shows the leveraging methods used by Warren Buffett to amass his $50 billion fortune.  The researchers found that the returns from Buffett’s investment company, Berkshire Hathaway, far outweighed those achieved by any rival that has operated for 30 years or more.  The research shows that neither luck nor magic are involved.  Instead, the paper shows that Buffet’s success hinges on using leverage at the rate of 1.6.

To sum up the strategy, Buffet uses limited leverage to invest in large purchases of “cheap, safe, quality stocks”.   He limits leverage so he can hold on for very long periods of time, surviving rough periods where others might have been forced into a fire sale or a career shift.

Stated in another way buffet uses logic (buy good value) to have the conviction, wherewithal, and skill to invest with leverage over many decades.

What do we do when we are not Warren Buffett?

May I introduce the Purposeful Investing Course (Pi) for those who want to invest like Warren Buffet, but know they are not.  This course is based on my 50 (almost) years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

Enjoy Extending Wealth

Pi’s mission is to make it easy for anyone to create a three point strategy, like Buffett’s even though they do not have a lot of time for or knowledge about investing.

Pi reveals investing secrets and the sciences that make investing easy, safer, less time consuming and increases the chances of profit.

One secret is to invest with a purpose beyond the cash.  One tactic as mentioned is staying power.  This means not being caught short and having to sell during a period of loss.  This also means having enough faith in a strategy that we stick to the plan.  When we invest with purpose, doing what we love, we enjoy the process more and are more likely to hold on during down times, when most poor investors panic and sell.

Slow, Worry Free, Good Value Investing

Stress, worry and fear are three of an investor’s worst enemies.  They create the Behavior Gap, a trait exhibited by most investors, that causes them to underperform any market sector they choose.  The behavior gap is created by natural human responses to fear.   Pi helps create profitable strategies that avoid losses from this gap.

Spanning the Behavior Gap

Behavior gaps are among the biggest reasons why so many investors fail.  Human evolution makes fear the second most powerful motivator.  (Greed is the third.)  Fear creates investment losses due to behavior gaps.  Fear motivates us more strongly than desire.  By nature investors are risk adverse.

Winning investors though embrace risk because they have a plan based on good value.

Purpose is the most powerful motivator,  stronger than fear and greed, so a strategy with purpose is the most powerful of all.

Combine your needs and capabilities with good value secrets and the math to back up your value selections through the Pifolio – The Pi Model Portfolio

Lessons from Pi are based on the creation and management of a Primary Pi Model Portfolio, called the Pifolio.  There are no secrets about this portfolio except that it ignores the stories (often created by someone with vested interests) and is based entirely on good math.

The Pifolio is a theoretical portfolio of MSCI Country Benchmark Index ETFs that cover all the good value markets using my (almost) 50 years of global experience and my study of the analysis of four mathematical investing geniuses (and friends).

The Pifolio analysis begins with a continual research of international major stock markets that compares their value based on:

#1:  Current book to price

#2: Cash flow to price

#3: Earnings to price

#4: Average dividend yield

#5: Return on equity

#6: Cash flow return.

#7: Market history

We follow this research of a brilliant mathematician and have tracked this analysis for over 20 years.    This is a complete and continual study of international major and emerging stock markets.

This analysis forms the basis of a Good Value Stock Market Strategy.   The analysis is rational, mathematical and does not worry about short term ups and downs.   This strategy is easy for anyone to follow and use.  Pi reveals the best value markets and provides contacts to managers and analysts and Country Index ETFs so almost anyone can create and follow their own strategy.

A country ETF provides diversification and cost efficiency by spreading one simple, even small investment into a basket of equities in a good value stock market.  The costs are low and this type of ETF is one of the hardest for institutions to cheat.  Expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund.

Little knowledge, time, management or guesswork are required.  The investment is simply a diversified portfolio of good value indices.  Investments in an index are like investments in all the shares of a good value market.

Pi matches this mathematical certainty with my fifty years of experience. This opens insights to numerous long term cycles that most investors miss because they have not been investing long enough to see them.

For example in the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.

There are currently ten good value (non US) developed markets,  plus 10 good value emerging markets.

Pi shows how to easily create a diversified, worry free portfolio in some of these good value markets using Country Index ETFs.

The current strength of the US dollar is a second remarkable similarity to 30 years ago.   The dollar rose along with Wall Street.

There is so much more to write and the trends are so clear that I have created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns For 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.

This report sells for $29.95 but you’ll receive the report “Three Currency Patterns For 50% Profits or More” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

Leverage

Pi also explains when leverage provides extra potential without undo risk.  For example in 1986 I issued a report called “The Silver Dip” that showed how to borrow 12,000 British pounds (at almost 1.6 to 1 dollars per pound the loan created US$18,600) and use the loan to buy 3835 ounces of silver at around US$4.85 an ounce.

Silver had crashed, I mean really crashed from $48 per ounce.  As prices decreased from early 1983 into 1986, total supply had fallen to 449.7 million ounces in 1986.  Mine production was restricted by the low prices at this time, with silver reaching a low for this period of $4.85 in May 1986.  Secondary recovery also was constricted by these low prices.

Then silver’s price skyrocketed to over $11 an ounce within a year.  The $18,600 loan was now worth $42,185.

The loan was in pounds and in May 1986 the dollar pound rate was 1.55 dollars per pound.  So the 12,000 pound loan purchased $18,600 of silver.  The pound then crashed to 1.40 dollars per silver.  The loan could be paid off for $13,285 immediately creating an extra $5,314 profit.  The profit grew to $47,499 in just a year.

Conditions for the silver dip have returned.  The availability of low cost loans and silver are at an all time low.  The price of silver has crashed from nearly $50 an ounce to below $14 as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).

silver chart

(Click on chart from Google.com  (1) to enlarge.)   Imagine investing in a spike like this… with leverage!

At the same time the silver gold ratio hit 80, a strong sign to invest in precious metals.

I have updated a special report “Silver Dip 2016” about a leveraged silver speculation that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The purpose of the report is to share long term lessons gained through 30 years of speculating and investing in precious metals.  While working on the report, when the gold silver ratio slipped to 80 and the price of silver dropped below $14 an ounce, I knew I needed to share this immediately.

I released a new report “Silver Dip 2015” so readers were able to take advantage of these conditions and leverage 1.6 times as a speculation.  That report generated profits as high as 212% and a revised 2017 issue has been produced.

“The Silver Dip 2106”  sells for $39.95 but  you receive  “Silver Dip 2017” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

The Sun Always Shines – EZ Persistence II

Part of persistence is knowing that hope springs eternal.  One of the key themes in my first book, Passport to International Profit, (published in the 1970s) was “The sun always shines somewhere”.  This thought has been in and remains a foundation of everything I do.

Last week I spoke at an Investment University and shared the following rules for creating an investment strategy that creates persistence.

Create a strategy of having fun by investing in what you know.  Knowing the basics behind your investments is important because belief in the idea is vital.  Risk is always our partner.  However, when we invest in what we know, there will always be things we cannot see.

Embrace risk.  Adapt.  Look for Contrasts & Trends.  Look for Value.

Expect that the World Will Still be Here!

This final piece of advice is most important because the press always focuses on doom and gloom.  The news makes the world seem about to end.

Yet despite all the negative headlines, we have lived through Cold War and MAD, Y2K, GridX II, the Peak Oil Crisis. etc. etc. etc.  Chicken Little is always out there, selling the sky is falling.  Don’t buy into this story!

Here is an example of how negative news can blind us to reality. This is a Washington Post article sent to me by a friend.

The article says:  The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consulant, at Bergen, Norway .
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.

Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.

Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable.

Then the friend added,  “I must apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922, as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post – 93 years ago.  He threw in a link to snopes.com so I could confirm this was true.  (1)

However Global Warming this time may have more impact than it did in 1922.

If so, it will be time to “Buy High and Sell Low” in areas that will flood at the least.

A National Geogrphic article “Treading Water Florida’s bill is coming due, as the costs of climate change add up around the globe” (2)  shows how adaptations will buy time, but asks, can they save Miami?

The article points out that the effects of global warming are not new.  Hal Wanless, chairman of the University of Miami’s geology department started warning that warming oceans could inundate South Florida.  He documented that barnacles were attaching themselves higher on bridge piers in Coral Gables, where he lives, than they were in the 1940s as early as the 1980s.

The Sun Shines Even on Rising Waters

The article tells how a Dutch developer sees profit, not loss, in climate change. The Dutch are masters at dealing with land that sits below sea level. Rotterdam is a prime example of an adaptive city.

One developer is looking at filling in the lake to build condos in a floating village with 29 private, artificial islands, each with a sleek, four-bedroom villa, a sandy beach, a pool, palm trees, and a dock long enough to accommodate an 80-foot yacht. The price: $12.5 million each.

The islands would be anchored similar to floating oil rigs so they could survive tough storms.

I have been betting on global warming in a way.  Three-quarters of Florida’s 18 million people live in coastal counties.  Rising sea levels have increased insurance rates at a speed that are not sustainable.  Communities are having to spend billions to raise land so property taxes may rise as well.

People may be left with no recourse but to leave the lower coastal areas which could drive up property prices in areas such as Mount Dora. This is one reason I have been investing in Central Florida rental units.

No one knows if tomorrow’s news, will be good, bad or worse.  For some reason, the public loves being scared so the worse the news! The better the sales and the media have to print what will keep them in business!

We however do not have to buy into the badness of bad news.  Problems can create opportunity.  The more horrific the news, the bigger the challenge and the greater the reward.

When we create a habit of always looking for the opportunity behind the news, persistence become a little more EZ!

Seven P Secrets of Self Publishing

When you write, you can work anywhere.

gary-scott-image

Here I am working poolside in the winter, at our Florida farm.

gary scott

Here I am with our hound Ma, working during the summer at our North Carolina farm.

Learn how to earn everywhere, while living anywhere you choose.  I have been able to earn by writing in Hong Kong, England, the Isle of Man, Dominican Republic and Ecuador to name a few of the place I have lived.  Everywhere I have been… too numerous to share here, I have been able to work.

All I need is my laptop.

That’s all you need too… a laptop to be free!

Before computers, a pencil and pad did the job.

Freedom is just one benefit you can gain from writing.

Another benefit is income.   Writing has brought me both our farms, free and clear… plus a lot more.

Another good example of earning potential is my friend Hugh Howey.   He was working for $10 an hour in a book store when he self published his novel Wool, typing in a storage room during his lunch breaks.

Soon he was earning over $100,000 a month on Amazon.com.  This helped secure a six-figure book deal from Simon & Schuster, and an option for film by Ridley Scott, director of Blade Runner and Alien.

That’s what he’s doing now.

Hugh Howey

Sometimes Hugh and I get together at my  farm and play chess (he beats me badly).

Writers like High are great inspirations.

A couple of years ago Hugh  left Florida, and moved to South Africa.  He had a sailing catamaran built for him and now can sail the world while he continues to write.

Hugh explained it like this: And that’s the miracle of working as a writer: I can do it from anywhere and everywhere. The past few years, I’ve done a lot of writing from airplanes and airports while on business trips abroad.  SAND was entirely written overseas while traveling through seven different countries; I think it’s a better story because of those inspirations.  In upcoming years, I may be writing near your home port.

Hugh’s a super star writer and his success could not happen to a more deserving and talented person.  He pours enormous energy into being worthy of his readership.  But you do not have to be a million dollar a year earner or a traveler to benefit from writing.

The good news is… you do not need a huge success to have a rich and fulfilled lifestyle.  Self Publishing can bring you a life that most people only dream of, as a journeyman writer, instead of a super star.

May I hastily add that the path to stardom begins as a journeyman… so the journeyman’s path brings success without stardom… but can also lead to stardom.

What most success stories like Hugh’s rarely explain is the many hours of writing that was devoted before their self published book sales soared.   Hugh, like most writers were journeymen first.  Stardom came later.

Here are sevens secrets that can help you become a journeyman writer.

The secrets are a writer’s armory of tools that allows almost anyone to create successful publications for income, freedom and fulfillment.

Take Merri’s and my publishing business as an example.

Merri and I are not writing stars.  We are journeymen who have for more than 40 years, year in and year out, earned solid income writing and self publishing dozens of publications about multiple subjects.

Some years that income has been more than solid… over a million dollars.  Yet in terms of stardom, we are hardly known.

In a moment you’ll see why that’s fine for us and probably will be for you too.

First some history.

Merri became involved in self publishing over 40 years ago… first helping a veterinarian publish a book on a very specific market… animal acupuncture. Then she showed a needle point artist how to sell more books to an even more specific audience… “needle point enthusiasts”  about her needle point work to an audience larger than the population of the city she lived in.  This led Merri to eventually become Executive Editor of an award winning magazine in Florida.

My story allowed Merri and me to work and live from Hong Kong to London to Europe to Eastern Europe, then the Caribbean and then Ecuador… making millions in the process of following our adventures… having fun… while helping a large readership adapt to a rapidly changing world.

That’s what self publishing can bring, profit, adventure and fulfillment, a great feeling of worth and wonder.

Self Publishing has created exactly the lifestyle we desire allowing us to span the world and work with meaning and purpose.

Self Publishing has become a new business art form.

The seven secrets can help you start your own self publishing business now.

Everything in publishing is new and exciting and changing.  Publishing is being recreated by the wonderful power of destructive technology.

Everything is new… except the seven secrets.

Change in the publishing industry is disturbing many.   We love this evolution due to these seven secrets we call the 7Ps.  The 7 Ps are so fundamental to writing and publishing that new technology enhances rather than reduces their power.

The First P is Passion.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it AND create income with self publishing.  This can be your direct ticket to the kind of fulfillment you’ve always wanted.

Whether you want to travel the world or live as a recluse, work 12 hours a day or not work much at all,  you can set your schedule to succeed, if you’re willing to learn these seven secrets.

You can start part-time with any dream, passion, and budget.  Once you’ve created a product, you’ll enjoy the “multiple effect” of producing profits over and over again.

So the question is… What do you love to do?

What’s Your Passion:  An example is that thirty years ago, a client of Merri’s had a passion to help people who were in pain?  He published a series of pamphlets explaining various chiropractic disorders in very simple terms.  For example: “What Is Whiplash?”

The pamphlets contained solid information, but were simple 5″ x 7″ brochures with drawings and explanations. He sold them with a rack to chiropractors, who put them in their offices for patients to read.  These little self-published items sold year in and year out for decades.

There are thousands of ideas of this sort that can lead to big business.  It’s just a matter of defining and then acting on your passion.

Although I can work when I please and go where I wish, for me the most important reason for being a publisher is the satisfaction it brings.

I love the projects I take on, so work doesn’t feel like, well… work.

What do you love?  If you love golf, then you can write and sell publications about golf.  Love travel, fishing, dogs, dolls, or art?  Write and sell publications in these fields.

Are you concerned about crime, war, poverty or environmental issues?  You can publish information products that help reduce these concerns.

Would you like to help the world be a more spiritual place?  Publish a newsletter, write a book (or hire someone to write it for you), record a tape… publish something that enlightens people.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it and earn income by publishing for ereaders, print on demand, CDs, lists, bound books, or any format you choose.

Be immersed in your passion and get paid well for it.

This is why stardom is not the main goal for most writers and self publishers.  Extra income, more freedom and fulfillment are usually more than enough enough.

The seven Ps are:

#1: Passion

#2: Problem

#3: Person

#4: Profitably Priced Product

#5: Prospecting Pathway

#6: Promise

#7: Presentation

The first time I exposed others to the secrets in Self Publishing was in a weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.  We offered the camp for $1,500. 80 delegates enrolled.  People from all walks of life attended—chiropractors, businessmen, investors, doctors, realtors, inventors, airline pilots, engineers, and housewives.

Merri and I were so overwhelmed by the response, we decided to make it available to a larger audience.  We created a written course based on our current self publishing activity called “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher.”  Then we recorded the weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.

Thousands have used the course as it has evolved over the decades.

You can receive both the written course and the recorded weekend seminar, in an MP3 file, in a special “Live Well and Free Anywhere” program I am making available to you.  The normal fee is $299 for the written course and $299 for the recorded workshop.   I’ll send you both the course and the recorded workshop and my course “International Business Made EZ (also $299) all for $299.  You save $598.

We are so confident that you’ll gain from this offer that if you are not fully satisfied, simply email us within 60 days for a full refund .

These courses are not theoretical.  They describe, step-by-step, how Merri and I built a million-dollar international business and how we are running this self publishing business right now.   We use the 7Ps today just as we did four decades ago to create a strong annual income.

This correspondence course is for those who would like their own international self publishing micro business for fun and profit. If you want fun, freedom, extra income and fulfillment with your own full or part time writing or want to build your existing business, by writing to sell you can profit from this course.  The course can help who want their own business or who want to have a business together or a family business.  This is the perfect course for those who can no longer find employment, who are looking for ways to earn abroad and who wish to retire and supplement their income.

Sunny Thought

Let’s start this holiday week with a sunny thought such as…”Everything is in perfect order.”  Plus “We can tap into that perfection so we are always at the right time in the right place.”

From time to time, we are all bombarded with bad news.  The mainstream media has found its greatest profits come from distributing itty-bitty meaningless details about disaster and bad stuff that could happen to us.

Yet this daily news is so narrow in scope that it’s meaningless and a waste of time.  Even worse, it can fill us with fear.  Take the sun as an example.  What a great thing… that sun up there… and it has such beauty, especially when it’s on the rise.

Yet there have been some sunshine fears.

Many have associated extra solar activity with global warming.

A New York times article “Strange Doings on the Sun Sunspots, Which Can Harm Electronics on Earth, Are Half the Number Expected” by Robert Lee Hotz suggests that if solar activity has an impact on global warming, then there is sunny news about the solar maximum.

Here is an excerpt from that article: The sun should be at the climax of its usual 11-year cycle of activity, but solar physicists are puzzled by its mellow solar maximum.

Scientists say that solar activity is stranger than in a century or more, with the sun producing barely half the number of sunspots as expected and its magnetic poles oddly out of sync.

Based on historical records, astronomers say the sun this fall ought to be nearing the explosive climax of its approximate 11-year cycle of activity—the so-called solar maximum. But this peak is “a total punk,” said Jonathan Cirtain, who works at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration as project scientist for the Japanese satellite Hinode, which maps solar magnetic fields.

“I would say it is the weakest in 200 years,” said David Hathaway, head of the solar physics group at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

Researchers are puzzled. They can’t tell if the lull is temporary or the onset of a decades-long decline, which might ease global warming a bit by altering the sun’s brightness or the wavelengths of its light.

“There is no scientist alive who has seen a solar cycle as weak as this one,” said Andrés Munoz-Jaramillo, who studies the solar-magnetic cycle at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Mass.

At the same time, scientists can’t explain the scarcity of sunspots. While still turbulent, the sun seems feeble compared with its peak power in previous decades. “It is not just that there are fewer sunspots, but they are less active sunspots,” Dr. Schrijver said.

However, the sun isn’t idle: After months of quiescence, it unleashed vast streams of charged particles into space five times in as many days last month, and flared again last week. Even so, these outbursts exhibited a fraction of the force of previous solar maximums.

Several solar scientists speculated that the sun may be returning to a more relaxed state after an era of unusually high activity that started in the 1940s.

“More than half of solar physicists would say we are returning to a norm,” said physicist Mark Miesch at the High Altitude Observatory in Boulder, Colo., who studies the internal dynamics of stars. “We might be in for a longer state of suppressed activity.

Various scientists are arguing back and forth on whether global warming and the sun are connected.  Obviously industry and CO2 play a big part and reduction should not be ignored, but if the sun does have an impact (which makes sense to me) then perhaps global warming will slow.

The reality is we don’t know… so what we fear may never take place… in fact probably won’t.  I recall fears over Y2K and more recently GridX II.  Many readers wrote about their fears of Martial Law taking place mid November 2013 due to this Grid defense exercise.

Chances are that whatever disasters will befall mankind… we won’t see it coming. Hence most fears are wasted energy.

My novel “The 65th Octave” (soon to be released on Kindle) is a spiritual thriller where the hero Robin MacAllen learns to trust his intuition from the heroine Talking Panther, a Seminole Medicine woman.  In one scene on a dark and stormy night (really) in a Victorian manor near the Irish Sea Talking Panther explains to MacAllen why we should not waste our energy on fear.

We should focus instead in letting our intuition lead us more so we’ll always be in the right time and the right place.  She says:  “Think of the brain for a moment as a muscle. Using the Golden Words is an exercise that strengthens the brain and enhances your body’s entire information processing system.”

MacAllen set down his drink. “You mean the Golden Words are mental exercises?”

“No, the words themselves are not the technique; they exercise your brain and other information handling components, not your thoughts. Much the same as weights are not the exercise. When you exercise a muscle, you don’t exercise the bio-electric signals that make the muscles work. You are developing the muscle fibers themselves and their related parts such as blood vessels, nerve connections, bones and sinews. As these different parts strengthen, the bioelectric impulses sent to the muscles become more effective.

“With the Golden Words, you train your neural pathways, cerebral blood supply, brain hemispheres and coordinating channels, so your entire thinking mechanism can process greater amounts of data.”

Robin was listening intently, trying to understand the complex explanation. He took another sip of the bitter chicory and asked, “So I think of my brain as separate from my mind or thoughts?”

She said, “Picture the brain as a radio that receives your thoughts. These thoughts are frequencies that work with each other.  The brain, the mind and the thoughts you have are connected, but they are not one.   Many frequencies mix in this process… beta, alpha, theta and delta.

“Beta waves can be looked at as the local news, alpha waves regional, theta global and delta waves come from the universal news. Your body, brain and heart are continually in touch with this news but with the Golden Words your mind’s your mind and soul receives and integrate these waves so they are useful in this physical reality.  All of the data that your brain processes can be connected. Can you imagine what this means?”

The print issue of the 65th Octave sold out some time ago but you can buy used copies at Amazon.com.  Please watch for the updated edition at Kindle before Christmas.

We are part of and live in a fractal universe. As such we are holograms that reflect every aspect of our world.  When we learn how to integrate that knowledge we gain a sunny knowing that reduces our need for fear.

Gain the Super Thinking Advantage & Learn Spanish in Three Days

Learn Spanish in Three Days ONLINE

The “Learn Spanish in Three Day Course” is now available online.

Read below to see why we are offering our Super Spanish course online for the first time.

Speaking Spanish is a huge benefit on its own.  You can become one of the rare North Americans who can get along in Spanish speaking countries.  You can be one of the special people who can communicate with 10 million non-English speakers in the USA.  Spanish is the second most used language in the USA.  There are more Spanish speakers than speakers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Hawaiian, and the Native American languages combined.  According to the Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language of nearly 50 million people in the US.  This is the largest Spanish-speaking community outside of Mexico. Only half of these speakers also speak English “very well,” and 19% do not speak Spanish at all.

You can tap into all this potential when you speak Spanish.  Yet there are more benefits.

An article in England’s leading newspaper, the Telegraph, entitled “Why learn a foreign language? Benefits of bilingualism” (1) sum up the biggest benefit of learning a second language and increased intelligence.  The article says: “Learning a foreign language is more than just a boost to your CV or handy for traveling.  It will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English.  Physiological studies have found that speaking two or more languages is a great asset to the cognitive process.  The brains of bilingual people operate differently than single language speakers, and these differences offer several mental benefits.”

The article then explains studies that show seven cognitive advantages gained from learning a foreign language.

#1:  You become smarter
#2:  You build multitasking skills
#3:  You stave off Alzheimer’s and dementia
#4:  Your memory improves
#5:  You become more perceptive
#6:  Your decision-making skills improve
#7:  You improve your English

Does it sound impossible to learn Spanish in three days?  Yes, it is impossible when you try to learn Spanish in the old, traditional way.

Though you may choose to take more time using this course to learn Spanish, thousands of our readers have learned at our Spanish courses.

There is a scientific method of learning… proven and described in numerous best selling books that create educational jumps by making education natural, easy and fun.   This course works because it is education without stress!

This method was created and refined by the Bulgarian educational master, Georgi Lozanov, who transformed the entire Soviet educational system to such a degree that this third world country beat the USA into space.

Merri was lucky to be one of a handful of students outside of Bulgaria who were allowed to be taught this system in the early 70s.  She practiced this unique and remarkable form of education for  four decades. It was a delight!

Merri and I began integrating these techniques with other shamanic and educational tactics we had gained in our global travels and then applied them to teach Spanish in three days.

The course has been proven again and again by the thousands who have used this system.  You can read a few of the many raves we have received from delegates who have learned from the Super Thinking Spanish course we created.

Here are a few quotes from delegates of the course.

One delegate from St. Louis wrote:  Hi Gary,  Just ended forty-five years in dentistry last week, and I’m on to a new career.  What is my new career?  Still formulating, but the eye -opening,mind expanding Super-Spanish course last weekend in St. Louis surely shows me the opportunity exists to expand my horizons.

Besides having a lot of nice people to learn our new language; the methods Merri and you developed proved to be just what you said they would be.  We all and I in particular relaxed our way to new learning.  I feel so very comfortable with the basis of my new language skills that I know I will be spitting out great Spanish sentences by the time I reach Ecuador in October.  Last year I spent six weeks in Ecuador and now I plan on conversing with the people.

Today’s excerpt of your newsletter really hit home. You do what you say you will. There are no surprises or hidden sales tricks. The only tricks are beneficial to our learning.  Thank you for a wonderful experience that I was quite unable to grasp how you would pull it off.  You did, however, and I look forward to other courses that you offer, and I have absolutely no doubt they also will work beneficially.  Best regards, Denis Molloy.

Another wrote about the Super Spanish course:   Buenos Dias, here is a testimonial for Super Thinking-Super Spanish.  Please feel free to use all or part in promotions for the course.  In addition, you may give my email address to any prospect “on the fence” about enrolling.  Yesterday, in Cotacachi, Ecuador, I finished Super Spanish.  I had high expectations for the course and they were exceeded.

After three days, I can speak Spanish in complete sentences. In simple conversations, such as buying groceries or ordering a meal, I can make myself understood. I think that’s incredible!

Although I am far from the competence level of a native speaker, I feel I’ve taken a giant step forward in learning Spanish so that I can experience the people and culture of Ecuador.  The foregoing benefits would have more than justified the time and money I invested in Super Spanish.  And learning some Spanish was not the most important benefit I got from the course.

Prior to leaving the USA, I had felt for some time that the pace of life there was unhealthy for me (and for most people) and I did nothing about it.

I’ve thought about the pace issue during the course.  One of the key elements Merri Scott designed into Super Spanish is placing the student in the optimal state for learning.  In class, the past three days, I’ve been re-introduced to guided journeys and introduced to the calming effects of Baroque music (www.sundaybaroque.org).  What a blessing! I’m inclined to make one or both a daily part of my life.   Rob Christi.  Cotacachi, Ecuador

Another attendee from a course wrote:   “I took this incredible class a few weeks ago, and I would like to tell anyone that is interested, that it is an amazing three days of learning with lots of laughs included. You leave everyday wanting to learn more and are so excited to do so.

“Other Spanish classes and tutoring made us feel like it would take forever to get to the point where we could put it into practice, but this method gave us a more fluent use for everyday life almost immediately AND the confidence to use it.  It is a fantastic way to show people how much they know and give confidence to learn and use Spanish creating a momentum.

“They made learning Spanish easy and fun in a very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.  I would definitely recommend this course.  Even if you know some Spanish, this helps make it easier because of the less stress that no verb conjugations gives you.  This gives you more confidence in yourself to try and speak it more.

“The stress free atmosphere and tons of interaction and participation were very conducive to learning.  The relaxation techniques alone are worth the price.  The fact that I can now feel more comfortable conversing in Spanish with my new friends and neighbors is priceless.  Muchas, muchas gracias.”

“I loved the relaxed environment.  I picked up quite a lot of new vocabulary.  I found this course very informative about how the language works, how I can make sentences and understand others better!  Muchas Gracias!  I had a call from Telcel (the local phone company) after our second class and I was able to speak and understand them for the first time. Despacio (meaning slowly) … a great word!  Everyone should take this course before they pick up bad habits.”

“I liked how simply the course was organized and the positive attitude about learning.  Thank you so much for helping me to learn Spanish!”

“I liked the laid back yet professional approach.  I highly recommend this new, relaxing method of learning Spanish,  I feel a lot more confident in the delivery of my words and sentences. It was taught in an excellent and very professional way.

“It was a very enjoyable class.”

How The Course Works

The first tactic is to use Baroque music in the learning process.  At least three best selling books, “Superlearning”, the “Mozart Effect” and “Superlearning 2000” have revealed insights about how to learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian educational master, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.  Merri Scott was among just a few who learned directly from Lozanov.

The second tactic uses 17 unique lessons to provide Spanish fluency in a short time.   Let me prove to you how this tactic works by teaching you hundreds of Spanish words in less than 30 seconds.

Here is the proof.

“Most words in English that end in ION are almost identical, just pronounced differently.  For example action is accion, education-educacion, manipulation- manipulacion, etc.”

There you have it.  How long did it take you to read the sentence?  You now know hundreds of Spanish words that you will never forget.

See examples of the words you already know below.

How long would have taken you to memorize all those words?  How soon would you have forgotten them?

This is just one of seventeen Spanish lessons in the course.

The next lesson teaches how to pronounce each of the nouns.

Then, the third lesson teaches almost as many verbs, almost as quickly.

The fourth lesson shows how to avoid conjugating verbs by sticking with the infinitive (far easier than it sounds).  This simple lesson leaves a person sounding like a Spanish professor without ever conjugating a verb.

Lesson five shows how to sound infinitely polite and yet get almost anything desired in Spanish.

Lesson six gives valuable connectors and the seventh lesson triples the Spanish capacity with three words for “yesterday,” “now” and “tomorrow”.

By the end of three days you feel comfortable speaking Spanish.

Plus the system is Impro-Dynamic.  This means your Spanish keeps getting better even though you do not seem to be studying… practicing… or speaking Spanish.

I was amazed by this as I traveled back and forth from the USA to Ecuador.  The longer I was away from Ecuador… the better my Spanish became.  My second language was automatically improving The self improving feature comes because you learn to create Spanish sentences rather than remember them.  The portion of the brain that creates is more powerful than the portion that recalls.  When your mind creates something… it owns it!  You do not have to remember .

During the course you learn 4005 Spanish words that you already know .

You then learn how to create Spanish sentences from these words.

Throughout the course you learn how to pronounce the sentences you create.

When the course ends… the mind keeps working… and creating… so next time you begin to speak Spanish you’ll be surprised .  You improve even though you have not actively worked on your lingual skill.

Due to the difficulty of getting groups together to learn this valuable technique, we created an online program for subscribers to use the Super Spanish course at home.   This is available at the highly reduced price of $79.

I’ll be in touch personally via email with each person who signs up for this course to see how it works or what is required to make it better.  Once this test is complete, we plan to offer the program on a larger scale and at a much higher price.

The ONLINE course has our, full satisfaction or money back, guarantee.  Try Super Spanish for 60 days.  If not fully satisfied, simply let us know for a full refund.

Here are more testimonials from previous Super Spanish Courses.

Maggie wrote: It didn’t really seem possible that we would be speaking and understanding Spanish in only 3 days but the course made it happen in a very supportive learning environment.  I would highly recommend this course for anyone wishing to learn “practical Spanish”.  The teaching methods, use of relaxation, the use of native Spanish speakers for pronunciation and the teachers themselves who were approachable and helpful and always positive made this a very valuable class.

This course improved my self confidence in my ability to learn and retain a language.  It was presented with genuine enthusiasm, great energy and the style of learning is very effective. Gracias!  It was a great experience.

Nadine wrote: “Just spent the last 3 days in the most wonderful learning environment learning Spanish.  What an amazing learning experience!!  First day out of class and I could not stop thinking in Spanish WOW!!  I am amazed by how much I learned, retained and how much more is showing up now that I am out of class.  And the best part is THERE WAS NO STUDYING!! Indeed this is Super Thinking!!!  I would highly recommend this to anyone that has ever had a desire to learn another language or learn anything in record time.

And a few days after that ….  As I went through my day, just hanging out with my son, I could see myself starting to think in Spanish.  At first I thought it was amusing but as it continued and increased I thought “My goodness this is really remarkable amazing” It was really an effortless unfolding.  I wasn’t at any point “trying” to think in Spanish, just words I knew would fly across the screen in my mind.  And then this afternoon, my son cuddled up on the couch to watch some cartoons on his ipad and was watching Peppa Pig in Spanish…hmm coincidence?  I think not, I’m radiating Spanish so much that my son is being influenced!  Thanks a million again.  This weekend the best learning experience of my life!!

If you have ever had a desire to learn Spanish this is the way to do it!  By the end of the first day I had more confidence and more practical ability than I had from any previous courses I had taken.  It was fun and relaxed and full of laughter.  You will leave this class excited to use what you have learned.  Rather than leaving overwhelmed with how much you have yet to learn and master, you are equipped with the knowledge and know how to go out and communicate as well as the excitement to do it!”

Gary noted:  “The whole approach is positive and conducive to learning at a level that benefits ALL participants.  It is not intimidating and does not set up a pass/fail atmosphere.  The presenters are terrific and the results unbelievable.  It was relaxed, informal, friendly and effective.”

Twila said:  “This class provided a very refreshing and relaxed way of learning.  The atmosphere felt very safe to say the words you were practicing.  I learned a lot in a way that will make it easy to apply.  Starting with conversation is way more fun.  How quickly you can learn!  It was a great group, great instructors and great stories.

The atmosphere in the classroom was so relaxed that learning Spanish felt like a breeze and not like a painful task.  The relaxation exercises are really conducive to language learning.  We learned A LOT in a short time and it was fun and the environment was non-threatening.”

Brigitte sent this:  “Buenos Dias, Suzanne. su clase de espanol es excelente! Muchas Gracias!
I have already done what you suggested and went into the program listening to the music and going over the lessons.  I know: Repetition……reinforcement…..thinking in the new language….it’s all part of it.  I loved your course and will certainly recommend it to friends.  Who knows….I might feel the urge and have the opportunity to repeat it at your beautiful place in Puerto Aventuras…..Quien sabe? Hasta otro dia y saludos a su familia.”

Marie wrote:  “I would highly recommend this course.  The amount covered in 3 days is amazing!  All with no stress.  The correlation lessons and pronunciation practice has greatly reduced my anxiety to go out and use my Spanish.  I really enjoyed the whole process and thank you for the take away tools.”

WSJ Strange Doings on the Sun Sunspots

Message From The Tipi Man

Here is a message from a man who lives in a tipi that can help you prosper in the shifts we are living though.

See three ways to prosper by adapting to global warming.

When Merri and I first started our farm seminar center we constructed five tipis because they are so adaptable.

Fwd: gary-scott-tipis

Those we constructed at our farm but have since taken down.

So it is not surprising that we can gain wisdom on how to prosper from change by this man who lives in a tipi.

national-geographic-photo

Photo by Erika Larsen from the November 2011 National Geographic article “The People Who Walk With Reindeer”

See links to the picture gallery and article below.  The caption to this  photo says: Sven Skaltje was saddened to find the carcasses of two female reindeer whose antlers had become entangled during a dominance struggle in northern Sweden. He estimates it took three days for them to die of starvation. After separating the bodies, he saw from the ear markings that one belonged to him and the other to his cousin. Skaltje is much admired by the younger Sami in his herding group, but he is unsure whether the skills he teaches them will endure.  “Other cultures like the Romans and the Inca, were very important, and they disappeared,” he says.”That is life.”

What I believe this wise man meant was… this is reality.  This is nature. This is evolution.

As old cultures and ideas die away there is sadness… yet in each passing lies the seeds of the Phoenix that will emerge from the ashes.

Carbon Ashes

Another Inuit photo from the October 2011 National Geographic article “World Without Ice” by Robert Kunzig and photographs by Ira Block show that the need for adaptability and change are not new.

NG photos

Photograph by Ira Block National Geographic caption: Inuit Johnny Issaluk holds a recent photo of a South Carolina swamp. That’s what his home, near the Arctic Circle on Baffin Island, would have looked like 56 million years ago, when summer water temperatures at the North Pole hit 74°F.  See link to entire article below.

The article begins: 56 million years ago a mysterious surge of carbon into the atmosphere sent global temperatures soaring. In a geologic eye blink life was changed forever.

Earth has been through this before.

Not the same planetary fever exactly; it was a different world the last time, around 56 million years ago. The Atlantic Ocean had not fully opened, and animals, including perhaps our primate ancestors, could walk from Asia through Europe and across Greenland to North America. They wouldn’t have encountered a speck of ice; even before the events we’re talking about, Earth was already much warmer than it is today. But as the Paleocene epoch gave way to the Eocene, it was about to get much warmer still—rapidly, radically warmer.

The cause was a massive and geologically sudden release of carbon. Just how much carbon was injected into the atmosphere during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum, or PETM, as scientists now call the fever period, is uncertain. But they estimate it was roughly the amount that would be injected today if human beings burned through all the Earth’s reserves of coal, oil, and natural gas. The PETM lasted more than 150,000 years, until the excess carbon was reabsorbed. It brought on drought, floods, insect plagues, and a few extinctions.

Where did all the carbon come from? We know the source of the excess carbon now pouring into the atmosphere: us. But there were no humans around 56 million years ago, much less cars and power plants. Many sources have been suggested for the PETM carbon spike, and given the amount of carbon, it likely came from more than one. At the end of the Paleocene, Europe and Greenland were pulling apart and opening the North Atlantic, resulting in massive volcanic eruptions that could have cooked carbon dioxide out of organic sediments on the seafloor, though probably not fast enough to explain the isotope spikes. Wildfires might have burned through Paleocene peat deposits, although so far soot from such fires has not turned up in sediment cores. A giant comet smashing into carbonate rocks also could have released a lot of carbon very quickly, but as yet there is no direct evidence of such an impact.

The oldest and still the most popular hypothesis is that much of the carbon came from large deposits of methane hydrate, a peculiar, icelike compound that consists of water molecules forming a cage around a single molecule of methane.

Some research suggests that we are in the midst of a natural warming trend that began about 1850 as we emerged from a four hundred year cold spell known as the Little Ice Age.

Perhaps there is too much certainty in the world.

Certainty is an illusion of logic and if we combine our intuition with our logic we can adapt ore successfully by acting on events that seem uncertain no matter how illogical they are when they present themselves.

What to Do Now

That’s a lot of change and our world is changing again now.  Many computer models show that Scandinavia seems to be most resilient to ecological and human impacts of climate change. Indeed in the mid-term, numerous cold places, like Britain, Canada and Scandinavia will likely benefit from climate change, with longer, warmer summers, safer climate and increasing crop yields. The same goes for parts of the northern American continent.

Invest North!

Even though the thought begins without logic, Investing North has been incredibly profitable this decade.

Based on uncertainty let’s look more at opportunity in northern climes. We may not know what the weather will do in the years ahead, but we can guess pretty accurately what society will believe about the weather for some years to come.

There is a great chance that there will be a belief in global warming whether it is a reality or not.

So we should take advantage of this and follow the last of the seven clues we have been reviewing which is to adapt and adjust!

One northern area this site has been promoting for years is Scandinavia.

One can simply invest in Skandanavien shares or a Nordic ETF like the Global X FTSE Nordic Region ETF (symbol GXF)

The Global X FTSE Nordic Region ETF seeks to provide investment results that correspond generally to the price and yield performance, before fees and expenses, of the FTSE Nordic 30 Index.

I have just posted a 42 page multi currency update that shows two Global X ETFs that can help you gain extra value.   AMulti Currency Portfolio subscribers can access this report at their password protected site. Click here

Another way to adapt to global warming is to do business in northern areas.

For example our Self – Publishing 202 Tidbit On Kindle course is introducing a self publishing service in Powell River Canada.

One of our readers, after three careers (education, law practice, and business) moved to this small almost-ex-forestry mill town on the British Columbia coast. Many folks in Powell River are immersed in an effort to re-invent this small community (app. 20,000 people).

This idea fits with at least three of the themes we have been repeating for years… Invest in water…  Invest in Smalltown USA (Smalltown Canada may be even better!) and  Invest up North!  Watch for more on this in upcoming messages.

We are learning a lot about self publishing and how to publish for Kindle and more from this small town.

Finally you might consider Icelandic bonds or investments.

A June 2011 Financial times article entitled “Iceland prepares $1bn bond issue” by Andrew Ward said:  Iceland is poised to raise up to $1bn in its first bond issue since the country’s banking sector collapsed in 2008, marking a step towards normalisation of its relations with international capital markets.

The dollar-denominated five-year notes are expected to price this week at around 325 basis points over mid-swaps, Europe’s reference rate, according to people familiar with the sale. The sale is managed by Barclays Capital, Citigroup and UBS.

A successful issuance would highlight Iceland’s gradual recovery from crisis and strengthen its public finances as the country nears the end of its International Monetary Fund bail-out this summer.

Iceland was one of the first European countries hit by the financial crisis but investors now view its debt as less risky than that of several more recently crisis-hit nations.

Iceland’s sovereign credit default swaps have fallen to their lowest level since the crisis at around 210 basis points, just below Spain’s and well below those of Greece, Ireland and Portugal.

That first Icelandic issue was oversubscribed two times!

Since the European debt crisis has now spilled into Italy… the US dollar may strengthen more and Icelandic bonds are a way to earn higher yields.

That’s quite a bit to fill our mental tipis with for a day… but as with tipis these ideas may seem strange but it will be unusual adaptable ideas that help us proper during change.
