Fruit & Fat

Both the Andean and Ayurvedic (Indian) health disciplines suggest that fruits are best eaten alone.  In the Andes, salty food is never mixed with sweet.  One reason for this is to improve digestion.  There is another reason why mixing fruit with other foods can create health problems.

One of the  several reasons why it is not healthy to combine fruit with other foods  is because it can increase body fat.  The problem is explained at a Lifespa.com article “Fruit Ayurvedic food combining guidelines” (1).

The article says: Glucose, the body’s main fuel supply, absorbs directly into the bloodstream. Fructose, however, requires processing through the liver and delivers energy much slower than glucose.

In fact, when a meal of glucose, fructose and sucrose are eaten at the same time, the glucose will be quickly delivered as energy. By the time the fructose is processed through the liver, the energy needs have often already been met by the glucose, and the excess fructose is simply stored as fat.  This is great for bears, as they will gorge themselves on fruit at the end of the summer/fall, in order to overshoot their energy needs and the extra is stored as winter insulation or fat.

So remember, the next time you eat some fruit with your granola, the granola will be quickly broken down into glucose, and the fructose portion of the fruit will be stored as fat.  If you were to eat fruit all by itself, it would deliver a slow, lasting burn of energy, and little or none would be stored as fat, depending on your energy needs.

There is other considerations about the healthiness of fruit… pesticides and contamination.

An AOL lifestyle article  “Strawberries are contaminated with pesticides, poisonous gases — even after it’s picked and washed” (2) outlines the problem.

The article says: Once again, strawberries have topped the “Dirty Dozen” list — they are hailed as the fruit “most likely to be contaminated with pesticide residues even after they are picked, rinsed in the field and washed before eating”, according to the Environmental Working Group (EWG).  Other produce listed includes spinach, nectarines, apples and potatoes.

Here is the list from the article of the most contaminated fruits:

Merri and I have a lot of fruit growing on our land.  In Florida, we have blueberries, loquats, oranges, tangerines, grapefruit figs and grapes.  In North Carolina, we have apples, pears, plums, grapes, blueberries and blackberries.  Between harvests we buy our fruit and eat some every day, but never combined with salty food.  We soak all the fruits of our fruit and vegetables that we do not grow ourselves in Purely Green.  Details are below.

Food For Thought and Better Health With Purely Green

Merri and I take the cleanliness of our food supply seriously.

In North Carolina we eat a lot of wild food and vegetables we grow in our garden.

Our greenhouse allows us to start our planting early.

In the spring nature provides us with dandelions and a wonderful lettuce (called branch lettuce) that grows wild in the creek later to be supplemented by Bee Balm and Echinacea for tea.

Here is echinacea and tomatoes growing in front of our meditation room.

Here is a bit of our harvest.

This time of year, we harvest our grapes and collect apples from our many apple trees.  We have acres of…

wild blackberries in the summer and wild mountain strawberries in the late spring.

Our chickens provide us with summer meals like this.

We also have a greenhouse in Florida and start the gardening process again in winter.

In addition we have citrus, grapes, figs, blueberries and loquats that provide us with Florida fruit throughout the year.

These crops, plus trout in North Carolina, bass and panfish from our Florida lake allow us to eat less commercially grown food.

This gardening is fulfilling, provides gentle exercise and we find picking our own food especially satisfying.  Plus there are some enormous health benefits.

Dr. John Douillard at Lifespa.com (1) points out that “Environmental pollutants, cancer causing chemicals, plastics, preservatives, pesticides, heavy metals and industrial waste overwhelm the body’s natural detoxification pathways.  Toxic cloud plumes from burning coal cover most of the United States and lace even our organic vegetables with heavy metals. Pesticides and preservatives have infiltrated their way into almost all the food consumed in America and can store in the body’s fat, including the brain, for years. Industrial wastes have permeated our ground water and can enter our body by simply washing our organic veggies with tap water.  Over time these stored chemicals undermine our immunity, render us susceptible to disease, infection and premature aging.”

This is why Merri and I clean our our vegetables and fruit, especially those we purchase in the store, with Purely Green 25.

I asked our friend, Ted Tidwell, who manufactures Purely Green to explain how this works.

Ted replied:  In order for pesticides to remain on the plant and effective during rains, they are encased in oil.  An ordinary vegetable wash that does not dissolve oil will permit pesticidal residues to remain on the plant and be ingested.

PurelyGreen is powerful enough to dissolve crude oil and tar, so it easily dissolves the oil and removes the poisonous pesticides.  Ted

Merri and I use Purely Green 25, diluted at the rate of two (2) ounces per quart of water is our preferred method for cleaning purchased fresh fruit and vegetables.

We simple spray our fruits and vegetables thoroughly and generously with Purely Green and let it penetrate for several minutes before rinsing.

This removes the oil encrusted toxic chemical pesticides that ordinary veggie washes cannot remove.

This also improves the taste by removing the oil and toxins and extends the freshness and edibility for several additional days.

Purely Green is certified carcinogen free.  Many consumers save the cost of expensive organic produce by removing the insecticides with Purely Green.  This organic cleaner/degreaser helps the environment and poses no threat to humans, animals or marine life.

Recently Ted sent this note to me:  EcoCert International has certified BioWash 25, BioWash 100 and BioWash Soil Amendment as ORGANIC.  This achievement will help enrich hundreds of distributors and thousands of organic growers.

ECOCERT (2) is an organic certification organization, founded in France in 1991. It is based in Europe but conducts inspections in over 80 countries, making it one of the largest organic certification organizations in the world.  The company inspects about 70% of the organic food industry in France and about 30% worldwide. ECOCERT is also a leading certifier of fair trade food, cosmetics and textiles as per ECOCERT Fair Trade Standards.

Congratulations to Ted.  It is great to see other organizations confirm what we have known and have let readers know for decades.

There is also a huge financial savings.  Three quarts of 409 household cleaner delivered by Amazon.com is $16.98 or about $5.66 per quart before shipping.  You then have shipping costs or have to pay to be an Amazon Prime customer for free shipping.  But $5.66 per quart is about the best you’ll get for 409 household cleaner.

One gallon of Purely Green 25 is $96.  This is a concentrate that is mixed 15 to 1 (two ounces per appx. quart 30 ounces of water).  That gallon of Purely Green creates 64 quarts of ready to use at less than $2.00 per quart.

There is one drawback to the Purely Green products, a high cost of shipping.   Ted does not offer Purely Green in stores and Fedex charges quite a bit for shipping.  The shipping, for a gallon averages out around $26 a gallon.  So the Purely Green and shipping are $122.

If you were to purchase the same amount of a traditional non organic house cleaner (such as Clorox 409) from Amazon.com,  you would pay $266.24 more.

You can order one gallon here and the shipping is included.

One Gallon of Purely Green 25 $122. Buy Purely Green 25, one gallon

Purely Green

We are bombarded daily with toxicities of every sort.  We see toxic news.  We are sold and served toxic food.  Much of our water supply contains poisons.  There are chemicals in the air.  Anything we can do to reduce the pollution that gets in our bodies can help us get and maintain natural health.  I hope that sharing this program for Purely Green will help create a cleaner world.

Natural Awakenings to Health & Wealth

Natural awakenings to natural rhythms of health and wealth is the most important asset now!

A recent USA today article entitled “Health takes a hit as economy creates more stress”
by Sharon Jayson says:

“Economic stress is taking its toll on the USA’s emotional and physical health, new survey data show: More than half of Americans report irritability or anger, fatigue and sleeplessness, and almost half say they self-medicate by overeating or indulging in unhealthy foods.

“Money and the economy topped the list of stressors for at least 80% of those surveyed by the American Psychological Association, which releases its numbers today. Finances now overshadow the more typical daily stressors of work and relationships; 46% report being worried about providing for their family’s basic needs.”

Yet economic recessions and depressions are natural. They are also the natural breeding ground for the next group of extreme rich.

The asset required to be among those who rise highest from the ash is more than money.

Those who succeed need a deep curiosity to see what changes will take place, a burning desire to be a part in the recovery process and a great deal of energy and vitality. Because of this I want to share three simple tips about natural awakenings to good, natural health that we have learned from our time spent with Ecuadorian shamans. Here we are on a shamanic journey.
picture one

Merri and I have enormous energy vitality and enthusiasm, running the farm and our publishing business on our own…with practically no help. We are really busy. Forget any idea about recession in this household. We are swamped…breaking records for our business every month.

Our website, according to Alexa, as this message is written, is now among the 25,000 most visited website in the US and even much higher in Canada. Considering the many millions of websites, this means we are visited and doing a lot!

Merri and I are both able to collect Social Security…yet the idea of retiring has not even entered our mind.

We love our work so much we do not even think of this as work. Many are amazed at what we get done. At a time when many our age are thinking retirement, we feel we are just getting started.

Plus despite our heavy work load and travel schedule we seem to be getting younger. Many of our friends who have not seen us for a few years tell us they would not have recognized us because we look younger.

Yet this is a time when many of our friends are rapidly deteriorating both in energy and appearance.

One of the reasons behind this energetic success are three simple and easy to use, natural health secrets we have learned in Ecuador. Let me share how wonderful natural awakenings to health and wealth came to us and can now come to you.

Having been an investment newsletter writer and publisher for thirty years, we originally visited Ecuador looking for new places to invest. Yet this adventure led us to better health as well as wealth because we met and then lived and studied natural health with Ecuadorian shamans. They taught us many things but here are three that are vitally important because they are so easy to do.

Tip #1: Natural awakenings to health and wealth come more easily in natural places. Even if you live in a crowded city, spend more time in tree-lined streets with proximity to parks and lots of sunlight. Research from Japan suggests that oldsters who live in more sylvan settings get out and about more often and survive longer than those living in noisy, gray urban areas. Results of the study, reported in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, showed that of 3,144 people born between 1903 and 1918 who lived in densely populated areas of Tokyo, men and women most likely to survive during the five-year period of the study were those living near grassy or tree-filled walking areas and those who lived near parks and on tree-lined streets. Those least likely to survive were men who lived in noisy areas clogged with automobiles and factories. Also a survival factor: the number of hours of sunlight in the home.” Get out in nature and walk. This will help work off the extra calories you may consume when you are stressed.

Tip #2 for health is for better digestion. Every health regime I have studied from the east to the west to the south begins with good nutrition and the core of that routine is better digestion. We suffer two digestive problems in the western world.

One is that many of our foods no longer contain as many essential vitamins and minerals as we need.

Our frantic paced lifestyle we do not take the time to properly digest our food. There are dozens of things that can be done to improve digestion from food combining to dietary change to slower eating to special prayer to slower, longer cooking to seasonal eating to correctly timing our eating to matching our eating to our body types!

But here is one of the simplest things you can do, that costs nothing in time or money.

Replace some of your high calorie and high caffeinated drinks with a soothing cup of hot water.

Sip warm water through the day away from meals. This is calming, try it and you will see.

More importantly the warm water expands the blood supply in the digestive track and improves digestion. Sip four cups of hot water a day, one in the morning, one mid morning, one afternoon and one in the evening. Even better use the water to replace tea or coffee.

Your results will run from great to miraculous. Some people have shed fat, others altered their entire personality. At the least you will feel calmer, better and have more energy regardless of how good or bad your diet is this will make your nutrition better.

Tip #3: Do something each day for someone who has less than you. This improves our perspective, but there is also a specific health benefit.

Douglas Spotted Eagle a virtuoso performer on the Native American flute who received a Grammy award for his music puts this way at his Spotted Eagle website.

I submit that the mere caring for others is an equal necessity. Many is the time where I’ve been nearly down and out, and a smile from the right person, a hello from a stranger, a small letter, postcard, or note found in the mail have brought me from the depths of despair.”

The science behind this is pretty simple. As creatures of this earth we are subject to the laws that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. We are social animals and when we help someone else we feel pleasure.

Pleasure is one of Western cultures’ least appreciated success and health creating tools.

The sensation we call pleasure changes our brain chemistry in less than a second.

Neuroscientist, Candace Pert, has proven that this emotional response creates corresponding brain chemistry that has receptor sites on cells throughout the body. Cells create tissue.

So, angry emotion…angry tissue. Stressed emotions…stressed tissue. Happy emotions…courtesy of pleasure…happy….healthier cells.

During these troubled time we all need an extra edge to make positive contributions that also increase our wealth and improve our health. The added energy you can gain now can give more than average rewards.

Merri and I look forward to seeking ways to gain more health and wealth  with you.
