Valentine’s Day Along with Longevity


Chocolates for Valentine’s Day may be gifts from the heart but most are not healthy for the heart… or any part of the body.

The cocoa in Valentine chocolates, could actually be healthy if it were not for the many other ingredients you usually find even in expensive brands.

Here is what to look for.  You will usually find high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils and soy Lecithin derived from GMO soy made with hexane, which is removed but particles may be left behind.  Hexane is a neurotoxin and carcinogen.

You’ll also usually find vanillin, a substitute for vanilla.  Vanillin is made (I could hardly believe this so I researched it quite a bit) by the action of pouring chloroform on a constituent of wood tar creosote.

In addition many chocolates have artificial colors including Red 40, Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 that contain benzidine, a carcinogen and PGPR that replaces cocoa butter and is made from castor beans.  TBHQ is another toxic preservative in some chocolates.   Other ingredients you may find that have raised some health concerns include Potassium Sorbate, Carrageenan and Sorbitol.

Secret of the Hogberry

Gain Amazing Health Benefits with the Hogberry

More than 100 studies have found that physical activity can lower cancer risk and even help cure cancer.  Fortunately researchers asked why and one answer became clear.  Body fat.

Fortunately there is a little known way to reduce body fat that does not even require exercise.  I’ll share more on this secret in a moment.

First, body fat and cancer?   Let’s ask why?

Part of the answer is toxicity.

Healthy bodies naturally and regularly remove water-soluble toxins from the body.  Our blood and kidneys flush them away.

Fat-soluble toxins such as metals, pesticides, preservatives, other pollutants are harder to flush out of the system.   Fat-soluble toxins must become water-soluble before the body can get rid of them.  The liver can do this conversion (bile emulsifies fat-souble toxins into water-soluble).  This process requires healthy digestive and detox pathways.  When they become imbalanced, fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat cells and brain cells instead.   These toxins can remain for decades and create health problems.

The fat stored toxins cause oxidation (free radical damage) and degeneration as well as mutation.  Toxins in the fatty tissue of the brain become neurotoxins that can cause cognitive problems and a host of mental and brain imbalances.

The way to avoid this storage of deadly toxicity is to keep stress down, while digestion and detoxification pathways remain good.

Burn Fat to Burn Toxins

When you burn fat not primarily for weight loss, (though you will lose weight) but for purification, you can turn on the body’s detox fuel.  Fat metabolism is the body’s natural form of energy.   Fat metabolism provides a more steady energy than glucose metabolism and flushes fat cells free of toxins.  As the toxicity drops, the nervous system has reduced stress and will naturally burn fat instead of sugar.

Intermittent fasting is one way to get the body to burn fat.  There is a way of eating that helps reduce weight, improve energy and purify the body as it returns to a state of natural health.

This is a simple easy way to improve and restore feeling good, but works best when combined with better nutrition, moderate exercise and a purification program that helps make sure that the body is not overwhelmed with too much purification at once.

Often, what patients catch in the hospital is worse than what sent them there.  Governments and health care agencies agree  – antibiotic resistance is a “nightmare.”  An antibiotic-resistant bacteria may be spreading in more hospitals than patients know.  About one in every 25 hospitalized patients gets an infection and a 2013 report from the Journal of Patient Safety showed that medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the country.

Along with the risk of hospital acquired illness and medical errors, the second huge threat to our well being… is health care costs, especially at hospitals.  This is because of the secrets in the Chargemaster and the people who do not want us to know how much hospital costs have risen .  Motivations beyond our good health, like corporate greed, want to keep us in the dark about health care cost.

The hospital bill above is part of a story about a $110,000 infection and why hospital “Chargemasters” are often secret.  This story tells how one person with resistant devastating infection ran up a $110,000 hospital bill only to find that Medicare would only pay $2,300 from treatment of infection.

Secret of the Chargemasters

Being in a hospital can kill as well as cure.  There are odds on that.  What is more certain is that hospitals can kill our finances.

The ‘average’ cost of hospital care is rising because the leading hospitals are front runners in figuring out how to amass market power so they can  raise prices and decrease competition.  A codeine pill that costs $20 at a hospital costs 50 cents at Rite-Aid or Walgreens.  Hospitals have “chargemasters” a price list created by each hospital, that typically has more than ten thousand entries, so almost nothing — even an aspirin, a bag of IV fluid, or a visit from a physical therapist to help a patient get out of bed — is free.  However, those lists are usually secret.

Hospital Failure

The Commonwealth Fund in its latest survey on overall health care ranked US healthcare dead last compared to 10 major countries.  Despite being worst, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Times have all warned about huge, increasingly costly, health care changes.  There are enormous problems in hospitals and chances are they are going to get worse.

When it comes to health care, we may well be on our own.  The very people, institutions and establishments that  we should rely on may actually hurt rather than help our health.  Shamanic Wisdom accumulated over the millennia can fill the gap.

Anxiety is a natural response to stress.  Too much of it creates health risks.  For example, anxiety can cause memory loss and even double the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.  A team of researchers from the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative  did a three year study of 376 patients between the ages of 55 and 91 years-old. These patients had memory loss but not enough to be at risk because most people lose memory as they age.

The study showed that the subjects with more anxiety saw faster mental decline than those without it.  The greater the anxiety the faster memory capability was lost.  Subjects with the most anxiety had the fast loss and over twice the risk for Alzheimer’s Disease because anxiety shrinks the area of the brain that controls memory.

Secret of the Hogberry

Fortunately there is a little known way to reduce body fat that does not even require exercise.  I’ll share more on this secret in a moment.

First, body fat and cancer?   Let’s ask why?

Part of the answer is toxicity.

Healthy bodies naturally and regularly remove water-soluble toxins from the body.  Our blood and kidneys flush them away.

Fat-soluble toxins such as metals, pesticides, preservatives, other pollutants are harder to flush out of the system.   Fat-soluble toxins must become water-soluble before the body can get rid of them.  The liver can do this conversion (bile emulsifies fat-souble toxins into water-soluble).  This process requires healthy digestive and detox pathways.  When they become imbalanced, fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat cells and brain cells instead.   These toxins can remain for decades and create health problems.

The fat stored toxins cause oxidation (free radical damage) and degeneration as well as mutation.  Toxins in the fatty tissue of the brain become neurotoxins that can cause cognitive problems and a host of mental and brain imbalances.

The way to avoid this storage of deadly toxicity is to keep stress down, while digestion and detoxification pathways remain good.

Burn Fat to Burn Toxins

When you burn fat not primarily for weight loss, (though you will lose weight) but for purification, you can turn on the body’s detox fuel.  Fat metabolism is the body’s natural form of energy.   Fat metabolism provides a more steady energy than glucose metabolism and flushes fat cells free of toxins.  As the toxicity drops, the nervous system has reduced stress and will naturally burn fat instead of sugar.

Often, what patients catch in the hospital is worse than what sent them there.  Governments and health care agencies agree  – antibiotic resistance is a “nightmare.”  An antibiotic-resistant bacteria may be spreading in more hospitals than patients know.  About one in every 25 hospitalized patients gets an infection and a 2013 report from the Journal of Patient Safety showed that medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the country.

Along with the risk of hospital acquired illness and medical errors, the second huge threat to our well being… is health care costs, especially at hospitals.  This is because of the secrets in the Chargemaster and the people who do not want us to know how much hospital costs have risen .  Motivations beyond our good health, like corporate greed, want to keep us in the dark about health care cost.

Being in a hospital can kill as well as cure.  There are odds on that.  What is more certain is that hospitals can kill our finances.

The ‘average’ cost of hospital care is rising because the leading hospitals are front runners in figuring out how to amass market power so they can  raise prices and decrease competition.  A codeine pill that costs $20 at a hospital costs 50 cents at Rite-Aid or Walgreens.  Hospitals have “chargemasters” a price list created by each hospital, that typically has more than ten thousand entries, so almost nothing — even an aspirin, a bag of IV fluid, or a visit from a physical therapist to help a patient get out of bed — is free.  However, those lists are usually secret.

Hospital Failure

The Commonwealth Fund in its latest survey on overall health care ranked US healthcare dead last compared to 10 major countries.  Despite being worst, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Times have all warned about huge, increasingly costly, health care changes.  There are enormous problems in hospitals and chances are they are going to get worse.

Rising Costs of Disease Management


An International Club member MD spoke at our August  International Club Retreat.   One of his comments really stuck with me.  “The medical care system has shifted from offering health care to disease management.”

Disease management is good for health insurers and big pharma.  Disease creates more profits than preventive care.  Health care of this sort is not good for us.  Western longevity may have been extended, but at what cost to quality of life?

We can see this problem in the news about how EpiPen (the allergy treatment injector) prices have climbed nearly 550% over the last eight years.  Despite complaints from government and consumers, the drug maker is not lowering the list price.  There is little competition so it is unlikely to do so.

The drug company is promising to increase insurance out-of-pocket assistance up to $300, from $100 and expand the number of low-income patients eligible to receive company subsidies.  They even created their own generic pen to compete against themselves.

This simply shifts the cost to higher insurance premiums and brings to light the plight to the middle class Americans.

Rising out-of-pocket health care costs for middle class Americans is putting a serious dent in lifestyle.

Overall, health-care spending across the economy has increased 38 percent since 2000 but this figure hides how the middle class have been hit hardest.

The government pays more into Medicare, and Medicaid and provides subsidies for low-income people.

Essential Oil Deodorant for Natural Health

Here is why I am excited about the essential oil deodorant Merri and I use.

The FDA issued a final rule which said “over-the-counter (OTC) antiperspirant drug products are generally recognized as safe and effective and not misbranded as part of FDA’s ongoing review of OTC drug products”.  I suspect that part of this ruling was influenced by scientists with the Personal Care Products Council, the trade association that represents the cosmetic and personal care products industry.  They have claimed that “antiperspirants can be used with high confidence of their safety. They’ve been used for many years, and there’s no evidence that suggests a problem“.

Many people use over-the-counter antiperspirant drug products every day because almost everyone does.  That’s the way its seems like it has always been.  Is this wise or simply the massive repetition of an error?  We assume that the FDA exists to protect us, but must ask this question, “How much should we trust?”

The FDA’s claims of safety are not entirely correct, because antiperspirants contain aluminum. 

An article at Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment helps clarify the risks of placing aluminum under our arms every day. (2)  This article says of aluminum, a main ingredient in antiperspirants, “What’s it good for in humans? Simple answer: not very much.  Except for possible involvement in some enzymatic reactions, aluminum “has no known function in the human body.”   While there is little or no upside for aluminum in the body, there is a most definite downside: aluminum is a neurotoxin.

The Aluminum Downside

The Duke article (linked below) contains numerous links to a number of negative health effects, including impaired mental and motor function, Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases, and bone diseases.  It points out a number of questions about aluminum’s impact on human health and explains there is not much study on aluminum antiperspirants.  Then it says: So, while the FDA regulates antiperspirants as over-the-counter drugs and deems them safe, it hasn’t based its decision on a large body of work specifically examining these products.  So rather than a stamp of approval, FDA’s aluminum regulation seems more an indication that, given the ubiquitous nature of aluminum, exposure from antiperspirants isn’t believed to be unsafe.”

Antiperspirants and Disease:  It’s the Pits

In other words there’s no definitive answer.  There are links between aluminum and disease, yes.  There is a link to Alzheimer’s, dementia, diminished thinking and cancer but, no study provides specific proof of a direct link between antiperspirants and these problems.

We can see the risks of aluminum more clearly at a different government source, the Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry. (3)

This agency’s report on aluminum says: Workers who breathe large amounts of aluminum dusts can have lung problems, such as coughing or changes that show up in chest X-rays.  Some workers who breathe aluminum-containing dusts or aluminum fumes have decreased performance in some tests that measure functions of the nervous system.

Some people who have kidney disease store a lot of aluminum in their bodies.  Sometimes, these people developed bone or brain diseases that doctors think were caused by the excess aluminum.

Although aluminum-containing over the counter oral products are considered safe in healthy individuals at recommended doses, some adverse effects have been observed following long-term use in some individuals.

Studies in animals show that the nervous system is a sensitive target of aluminum toxicity.

Then there is the question of  parabens.

A health warning from Mercola.com (4) says:   99% of Breast Cancer Tissue Contained This Everyday Chemical (NOT Aluminum). Recent research found higher concentrations of parabens in the upper quadrants of the breast and axillary area, where antiperspirants are usually applied, suggesting they may contribute to the development of breast cancer.

The data from this latest study, the most extensive examination of parabens in human breast so far published, confirms previous work and raises a number of questions on the entire parabens, personal care product and human health debate, particularly relating to the source and toxicological significance of the paraben esters.

Merri and I have not used antiperspirants for decades.  We eliminate a potential toxicity and use purifying essential oils instead.  F

Longevity Savings


A study at Harvard, USC, Columbia and the University of Illinois found that researching longevity rather than disease could dramatically change the cost of health care and save almost 1.5 trillion dollars a year.

Make Safe More Profitable With the Silver Dip

May 2017 will be my 51st anniversary of being in the investment & finance business.  This is the 49th year since I started talking about international investing, (I started a Hong Kong mutual fund business in May 1968).

Since that time, my investing goals have been based around spotting contrasts and trends.

One current trend is that the valuations of US shares are dramatically overpriced  in every fundamental way.   The Morgan Stanley MSCI Index USA currently sells for 2.81 times book value, compared to the MSCI Europe Index that sells for 1.68 times book value.   The US PE Ratio is 21.2 versus 18.2 in Europe and the average US dividend yield is 2.15% versus 3.69% in Europe.  Shares in Europe on average are a far a better value.

When you use a long time dimension and diversify correctly, investing in value such as this has always created the highest profits and greatest safety.

I use this strategy because using a value strategy also takes the least work and has the lowest stress!

Then I look for ways to add spice and extra profit short term distortions.

For example in 2015 I spotted two distortions.  They were contrasts that  had reaped huge rewards for me and many of my readers 30 years ago.  I quickly issued two reports, one for each trend.  After a  year one of the distortions has already returned 210.58% in the last year.

A new contrast has even more potential in 2017.

One of the reports released, “Silver Dip 2015” looked at potential profits in silver because when the US stock market falls, the price of gold and silver rise.  I have been a gold bug for almost 50 years and spotted this fact long ago.

The “Silver Dip 2016” report reviewed a way to profit from silver and gold because of a mathematical, historical fact.  When the silver/gold ratio rises over 80, silver is more likely to rise than gold.  That ratio is even higher now than it was in 2015 so silver may not create the extraordinary profits this year.

The “Silver Dip 2017” offers a new ideal speculation.

The second distortion, explained below, has greater long term potential and all but guarantees short term profits in gold, silver and the currenct hot speculation.

There is no question that a long term correction is coming.  Only the full timing can be in doubt.  The question we must ask is, “Could the big break come in 2017 and could it break upon us right now?”  The answer is “Yes”.  When the bubble bursts, it can cause the perfect economic storm that makes a few investors, who are ready, rich.

I have been warning readers about this stock market correction (and how to profit instead of lose), since  January 28, 2015.

Zero interest is the sucker punch that can devastate millions of investors.  This is a Ponzi scheme where governments rob money from the future and spend it badly in the here and now.  Each downward economic wave of the last 30 years has created a larger mountain of debt that brings the world closer to an economy where there is no more future money to steal.  The only way governments can afford to borrow more is to take it for nothing.  That’s zero interest.  In worst case scenarios, governments can charge you to borrow your own money.  In Europe some bonds now have negative interest.

shouldn’t pay us anything.  Even worse they could charge a negative interest rate on our bank accounts and lock our money into the system.  The alternative is to invest in a risky, over priced stock market and morbidly weak currency.

Over priced stocks and an over priced US dollar are the third sucker punch!

To date we have been able at least to choose where and in what currencies we invest.  This is where we encounter the one-two-three punch.  The zero or negative interest rate destroys the purchasing power of our savings.  Capital controls lock us into a weak currency or market so we cannot take profits or protect our purchasing power from this inflation and currency loss.

Our savings, pensions and wealth can be floored by a combination of a falling stock market, crashing US dollar and inflation.

The purchasing power of the US dollar will fall.   Trading down is working in many ways.  Even if  pensions can pay what they have promised, the money in dollars won’t buy as much.  Coffee isn’t free with meals.  Many ordinary foods (tomatoes, peppers, almonds and walnuts as an example) and yes, maple syrup become luxuries.

Social Security won’t be as useful either, if it is paid at all.  Could Social Security really default?  The answer is “Yes, it could”.  An October 8, 2013 Reuters article at finance.yahoo said:  “President Barack Obama warned last week that Social Security benefits might not go out ‘on time’ if Congress does not raise the debt ceiling.  Should seniors and disabled Americans really be worried about their benefits if the U.S. government runs out of borrowing capacity later this month?  The answer is YES.”

I can make these predictions based on 30 year trends because I have been writing and teaching global investing for almost 50 years.  Long term experience helps me spot distortions and cycles that have been building for even as long as 30 years.   This experience has helped me steer my readers in the right direction again and again.

How to Link Money with Happiness


Purposeful investing is the best investing of all. 

Purposeful investing is smarter and safer because it creates fulfillment and feelings of security that overcome fear and greed.  Real security comes from being aware of and in tune with a fulfilling, strategic investment plan that goes beyond short term dollars and cents.

Too few investors ask the question, “Why do I want to be wealthy?”

Sure we know that food has to be bought.  Rent has to be paid.  Taxes, bills, cars, gas, education, health care, entertainment all cost… some money.  We need money for all of those things.

Yet these expenses do not require that we be really wealthy.  Research shows that money’s ability to make us feel good is quite limited.

The link between having money and being happy is not strongly related because happiness comes in two ways “evaluative” and “affective”.

Evaluative happiness (a sense that we are progressing toward our life goals) keeps getting better as we earn more.

Affective happiness (how often do we experience positive emotions like joy, affection and tranquility, as opposed to negative ones?) does not rise much after a household reaches an annual income of around $75,000.

The research is clear.  Growing happiness comes from achieving goals, not from getting or being rich.  When the process of  making money is divorced from a long term strategy of completing fulfilling missions, the process of investing is more likely to engender fear and unhappiness, than to bring feelings of fulfillment and security.

When we invest without a personal, meaningful strategy; our investing logic can be turned upside down in numerous ways.  We might risk having a behavior gap.

Behavior gaps are among the biggest reasons why many fail (or succeed) when investing.

Human evolution makes fear a most powerful motivator.  Fear creates investment losses due to behavior gaps.  Fear motivates us more strongly than desire, so by nature we are risk adverse.  Warren Buffet highlights the fact that fighting fear is easier said than done. “There is no comparison between fear and greed.  Fear is instant, pervasive and intense.  Greed is slower.  Fear hits.”

So how do we overcome fear?

Here are three unique ways to overcome fear.

#1:  Have a mission.  Many investors lose because they want their investing to create exciting profits.  George Soros confirmed this fact when he said: “If investing is entertaining, if you’re having fun, you’re probably not making any money.  Good investing is boring.” 

Since we should not try to be entertained by making big, fast profits; having a mission beyond the money in our investing allows us to remain enthusiastic and loyal to our strategies through thick and through thin.  Missions allow us to focus on rewards great enough to joyfully tolerate the effort and downturns we fear.  If we plan risks (let’s remember that all investing entails risk) that accomplish something great and profitable, then it does not have the same grip.

#2:  Dream away your fear.  A Washington Post article “Fear memories can be overcome during sleep, researchers say” (2) highlights a way to dream away fears.  Try this.  Identify your fear.  Get an essential oil.  Think about your fear as you apply and smell the oil.  Then apply the same essential oil before you go to sleep.  Your brain can sort out the fear in dreams so you do not have to deal with the waking terror.

#3:  Think in the here and now instead of being ruled by our imagination.

Most of us lead or did lead hurried, high pressure, complex, busy lives that shape our activity into brief, time saving habits.  This continual pressure and stress are not good for us.  The flood of demoralizing, discouraging news creates a mentality of disquiet, a precursor to fear, all too easily activated by any startling news.  Alarm creates panic.  Fear creates its own individual, panicked stampede.  Simple habits, such as reacting to the daily news or panicking when stock markets temporarily plunge are hard to break.

Fear is easy to overcome when you understand what it is.  Eliminating fear is only hard because fear is only an habit and all habits are difficult to change.  When we learn to focus on mind on the here and now instead of letting our imagination run wild, we can separate fact from fiction.  This makes it much easier to eliminate fear.

The Scum in the Health Scam


Which is worse, the soap, the soap scum or the scum who sells this soap as safe when it is not?

Since March 3, 20o3  (in an article entitled “Health Scam”) (1), I have been warning about antibacterial soap.  There is a health danger contained in this soap and in the past decade and three years I have reiterated the warning.

A Wall Street Journal article entitled “Are Antibacterial Soaps Safe?” (3) shows that my warnings have been spot on.

Finally the FDA looks as if they might protect Americans from this fact, but they probably won’t.  See why below.

The Food and Drug Administration will make a decision this year on whether antibacterial soaps that contain the chemical triclosan are safe and more effective than plain soap and water.

Studies about triclosan, shows that it can interfere with hormones and cause changes in thyroid, reproductive-growth and developmental systems.  There is also evidence that widespread use of antibacterials helps create drug resistant super bacteria.

We cannot escape the problem by simply avoiding this type of  soap either.   The chemical is washed down the drain and remains in the environment.  Triclosans environmental afterlife can last for decades.

A publication in the journal, Environmental Science & Technology, says that U.S. streams have a 60% to 100% likelihood of containing detectable quantities of the triclosan and other chemicals from antibacterial soap.   High levels of these chemicals are found in municipal sludge and drinking water as well as in urine and breast milk.

According to the Wall Street Journal article: The director of the FDA’s Division of Nonprescription Drug Products in the FDA’s Center for Drug Evaluation and Research advises: “At this point, wash your hands with plain soap and water, because we don’t have enough data demonstrating these antibacterial soaps are any better in fighting disease.”

However this chemical may still be allowed in soaps.

Why?  The market for soap, bath and shower products is 5.5 billion a year and 140 companies that make soap formed “The American Cleaning Institute” to represent them.

This marketing, lobbying group takes the position that the FDA has “neglected a substantial amount of existing safety data”.  They argue that triclosan has been used safely for decades and dispute that it is helping create super resistant bacteria.

The marketing and lobby groups for soap manufacturers say that that banning antibacterial products would increase exposure to bacteria and increase infection and disease, including 7.5 million cases of food-borne illness and $38 billion a year of extra health costs.

The American Cleaning Institute even tried to stop a study, created by the FDA’s suggestion, of whether there is risk to cancer from skin exposure to triclosan.

History suggests that when big business has enough money at stake, the cash flows through the political system and gums up the institutions that are purportedly designed to protect our health.  Beware of the scum in this scam because not all of it is created by soap.

Fortunately in our modern world, we have access to information from healers in all places and from many times past and present.  Look beyond the advertisements of big business and don’t rely on Big Brother to protect your natural health.

Health Dangers to Avoid

It’s hard to avoid toxicity from household dust.

Household dust is toxic.  Americans spend over 90 percent of their time in buildings or cars where levels of pollution are concentrated.  According to a study of 1,200 US homes, household dust contains an average of more than 5,000 types of bacteria and 2,000 kinds species of fungi.

Yet the soaps and shampoos we use to clean may be even more toxic than the dust.

Here is an excerpt from the second report in our shamanic health series that we are about to release.  This report shows how to avoid toxicity and purify.

“Merri’s and my long time friend, Jay Glaser M.D. is an M.D. and ayurvedic physician.  He spent many years studying in India and traveled with Merri and me to Ecuador to learn about Andean healing.

Jay suggests avoiding regular soap for cleaning the head and major lymph areas.  In his book “Body Renewal – The Lost Art of Self Repair” Jay writes: Use gentle glycerin soap only in the groin and underarms. Otherwise use mung bean flour, barley flour or chickpea flour instead of soap, available in Indian groceries (mung bean flour is usually best, but you can try them all).  Keep your flour in a dry container near the shower, moisten it in your fingertips and gently apply it to the areas to be cleansed.”

Even soaps and shampoos that are branded as natural, organic and healthy must be looked with a critical eye.  Take for example, Jason shampoo, the shampoo I used in the past.  Jason advertises that it has offered natural care since 1959 and is a trusted, smart choice for families with a complete range of safe, effective products infused with botanicals, plants, roots, herbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Yet as I studied the Jason brand more I saw that the company’s history makes one suspect: the word “trusted”.  Jason is owned by the mega company Hains Celestial Group and there have been numerous federal and consumer lawsuits against mislabeling and adulteration of products.  Just a couple of many examples include a 2010 citation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for numerous violations of good manufacturing practice in manufacturing, packaging, labeling for dietary supplements.

In 2013 a California consumer lodged a revised suit in federal accusing Hain Celestial Group Inc. for misleading consumers.

Another federal class action claimed that Hain Celestial Group misrepresents its Jason and Avalon Organics brand “personal care products” as organic when they actually contain less than the required 70% organic ingredients.  The company admitted that only the Aloe Vera leaf gel was organic and it was only the ninth of 19 ingredients.

I had used the Jason Super Shine Shampoo Apricot Oil shampoo, so took a look at the label.  No more Jason for me!

An examination of some of the ingredients shows that even if the label is reliable the healthiness of this product must be suspect. Here are just a few of the ingredients that make me shudder.

Dimethicone is one example of a potential risk.  The Canada Domestic Substance List recommends restricting it in cosmetics.  Dimethicone is suspected of organ system toxicity and is classified as toxic or harmful to the environment.

Phenoxyethanol is a questionable chemical.  This is a glycol ether and its MSDS says that phenoxyethanol is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin and that it can cause reproductive damage.

Ethylhexylglycerin is classified as an irritant in the European Union.

Tocopheryl Acetate.  There is strong evidence that Tocopheryl Acetateis can be a human skin toxicant or allergen according to Cosmetic Ingredient Review Assessments.  One or more animal studies show tumor formation at high doses.

Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride.  There is strong evidence that it is a human skin toxicant or allergen according to Cosmetic Ingredient Review Assessments.  One or more animal studies show tumor formation at high doses.

Benzyl Salicylate.  The MSDS says this chemical may cause an allergic skin reaction, cause serious eye irritation may cause damage to organs and is toxic to aquatic life.

Each of these chemicals in the Super Shine Shampoo Apricot Oil shampoo are questionable.  The more serious question I asked is  is “What does a daily dose of this combination of chemicals soaking into the skin on my head do?”  I doubt (nor could I find) that there are any studies on this combined risk.

A Soap Solution

Fortunately there is a little known way to reduce body fat that does not even require exercise.  I’ll share more on this secret in a moment.

First, body fat and cancer?   Let’s ask why?

Part of the answer is toxicity.

Healthy bodies naturally and regularly remove water-soluble toxins from the body.  Our blood and kidneys flush them away.

Fat-soluble toxins such as metals, pesticides, preservatives, other pollutants are harder to flush out of the system.   Fat-soluble toxins must become water-soluble before the body can get rid of them.  The liver can do this conversion (bile emulsifies fat-souble toxins into water-soluble).  This process requires healthy digestive and detox pathways.  When they become imbalanced, fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat cells and brain cells instead.   These toxins can remain for decades and create health problems.

The fat stored toxins cause oxidation (free radical damage) and degeneration as well as mutation.  Toxins in the fatty tissue of the brain become neurotoxins that can cause cognitive problems and a host of mental and brain imbalances.

The way to avoid this storage of deadly toxicity is to keep stress down, while digestion and detoxification pathways remain good.

Burn Fat to Burn Toxins

When you burn fat not primarily for weight loss, (though you will lose weight) but for purification, you can turn on the body’s detox fuel.  Fat metabolism is the body’s natural form of energy.   Fat metabolism provides a more steady energy than glucose metabolism and flushes fat cells free of toxins.  As the toxicity drops, the nervous system has reduced stress and will naturally burn fat instead of sugar.

Avoid the Secret Chargemaster

Modern American health care is under pressure.  Despite horrendous costs, the system is faltering.  At times the care is more dangerous than the illness.  For example hospitals are the worst place to have a heart attack.  The University of North Carolina, did a study and found that 40% of the patients who had attacks in the hospital died before being discharged.  (The study compared that with only a 4% death rate for those who had heart attacks outside the hospital.)

Plus it was recently revealed that medical endoscopy scopes in hospitals were infecting patients with deadly drug-resistant bacteria.  The facts about this had not been previously disclosed.  The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimate that hospital-acquired infections alone kill 99,000 people each year.  Here is an even worse hospital mortality fact.

Often, what patients catch in the hospital is worse than what sent them there.  Governments and health care agencies agree  – antibiotic resistance is a “nightmare.”  An antibiotic-resistant bacteria may be spreading in more hospitals than patients know.  About one in every 25 hospitalized patients gets an infection and a 2013 report from the Journal of Patient Safety showed that medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the country.

Along with the risk of hospital acquired illness and medical errors, the second huge threat to our well being… is health care costs, especially at hospitals.  This is because of the secrets in the Chargemaster and the people who do not want us to know how much hospital costs have risen .  Motivations beyond our good health, like corporate greed, want to keep us in the dark about health care cost.

The hospital bill above is part of a story about a $110,000 infection and why hospital “Chargemasters” are often secret.  This story tells how one person with resistant devastating infection ran up a $110,000 hospital bill only to find that Medicare would only pay $2,300 from treatment of infection.

Secret of the Chargemasters

Being in a hospital can kill as well as cure.  There are odds on that.  What is more certain is that hospitals can kill our finances.

The ‘average’ cost of hospital care is rising because the leading hospitals are front runners in figuring out how to amass market power so they can  raise prices and decrease competition.  A codeine pill that costs $20 at a hospital costs 50 cents at Rite-Aid or Walgreens.  Hospitals have “chargemasters” a price list created by each hospital, that typically has more than ten thousand entries, so almost nothing — even an aspirin, a bag of IV fluid, or a visit from a physical therapist to help a patient get out of bed — is free.  However, those lists are usually secret.

Hospital Failure

The Commonwealth Fund in its latest survey on overall health care ranked US healthcare dead last compared to 10 major countries.  Despite being worst, USA Today, Wall Street Journal, Forbes, New York Times have all warned about huge, increasingly costly, health care changes.  There are enormous problems in hospitals and chances are they are going to get worse.

When it comes to health care, we may well be on our own.  The very people, institutions and establishments that  we should rely on may actually hurt rather than help our health.  Shamanic Wisdom accumulated over the millennia can fill the gap.

Toxics that Are Hard to Avoid


It’s hard to avoid toxicity from household dust.

Household dust is toxic.  Americans spend over 90 percent of their time in buildings or cars where levels of pollution are concentrated.  According to a study of 1,200 US homes, household dust contains an average of more than 5,000 types of bacteria and 2,000 kinds species of fungi.

Yet the soaps and shampoos we use to clean may be even more toxic than the dust.

Here is an excerpt from the second report in our shamanic health series that we are about to release.  This report shows how to avoid toxicity and purify.

“Merri’s and my long time friend, Jay Glaser M.D. is an M.D. and ayurvedic physician.  He spent many years studying in India and traveled with Merri and me to Ecuador to learn about Andean healing.

Jay suggests avoiding regular soap for cleaning the head and major lymph areas.  In his book “Body Renewal – The Lost Art of Self Repair” Jay writes: Use gentle glycerin soap only in the groin and underarms. Otherwise use mung bean flour, barley flour or chickpea flour instead of soap, available in Indian groceries (mung bean flour is usually best, but you can try them all).  Keep your flour in a dry container near the shower, moisten it in your fingertips and gently apply it to the areas to be cleansed.”

Even soaps and shampoos that are branded as natural, organic and healthy must be looked with a critical eye.  Take for example, Jason shampoo, the shampoo I used in the past.  Jason advertises that it has offered natural care since 1959 and is a trusted, smart choice for families with a complete range of safe, effective products infused with botanicals, plants, roots, herbs, proteins, vitamins and minerals.

Yet as I studied the Jason brand more I saw that the company’s history makes one suspect: the word “trusted”.  Jason is owned by the mega company Hains Celestial Group and there have been numerous federal and consumer lawsuits against mislabeling and adulteration of products.  Just a couple of many examples include a 2010 citation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for numerous violations of good manufacturing practice in manufacturing, packaging, labeling for dietary supplements.

In 2013 a California consumer lodged a revised suit in federal accusing Hain Celestial Group Inc. for misleading consumers.

Another federal class action claimed that Hain Celestial Group misrepresents its Jason and Avalon Organics brand “personal care products” as organic when they actually contain less than the required 70% organic ingredients.  The company admitted that only the Aloe Vera leaf gel was organic and it was only the ninth of 19 ingredients.

I had used the Jason Super Shine Shampoo Apricot Oil shampoo, so took a look at the label.  No more Jason for me!

An examination of some of the ingredients shows that even if the label is reliable the healthiness of this product must be suspect. Here are just a few of the ingredients that make me shudder.

Dimethicone is one example of a potential risk.  The Canada Domestic Substance List recommends restricting it in cosmetics.  Dimethicone is suspected of organ system toxicity and is classified as toxic or harmful to the environment.

Phenoxyethanol is a questionable chemical.  This is a glycol ether and its MSDS says that phenoxyethanol is harmful if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin and that it can cause reproductive damage.

Ethylhexylglycerin is classified as an irritant in the European Union.

Tocopheryl Acetate.  There is strong evidence that Tocopheryl Acetateis can be a human skin toxicant or allergen according to Cosmetic Ingredient Review Assessments.  One or more animal studies show tumor formation at high doses.

Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride.  There is strong evidence that it is a human skin toxicant or allergen according to Cosmetic Ingredient Review Assessments.  One or more animal studies show tumor formation at high doses.

Benzyl Salicylate.  The MSDS says this chemical may cause an allergic skin reaction, cause serious eye irritation may cause damage to organs and is toxic to aquatic life.

Each of these chemicals in the Super Shine Shampoo Apricot Oil shampoo are questionable.  The more serious question I asked is  is “What does a daily dose of this combination of chemicals soaking into the skin on my head do?”  I doubt (nor could I find) that there are any studies on this combined risk.

A Soap Solution

I discussed this problem with our long time friend, Candace Newman, The Oil Lady.  She formulated a wonderful, truly organic liquid face and body soap for Merri and me to use.  Here are the ingredients of her OLA HealThy Body & Face Soap.

Secret of the Hogberry

Gain Amazing Health Benefits with the Hogberry

More than 100 studies have found that physical activity can lower cancer risk and even help cure cancer.  Fortunately researchers asked why and one answer became clear.  Body fat.

Fortunately there is a little known way to reduce body fat that does not even require exercise.  I’ll share more on this secret in a moment.

First, body fat and cancer?   Let’s ask why?

Part of the answer is toxicity.

Healthy bodies naturally and regularly remove water-soluble toxins from the body.  Our blood and kidneys flush them away.

Fat-soluble toxins such as metals, pesticides, preservatives, other pollutants are harder to flush out of the system.   Fat-soluble toxins must become water-soluble before the body can get rid of them.  The liver can do this conversion (bile emulsifies fat-souble toxins into water-soluble).  This process requires healthy digestive and detox pathways.  When they become imbalanced, fat-soluble toxins are stored in fat cells and brain cells instead.   These toxins can remain for decades and create health problems.

The fat stored toxins cause oxidation (free radical damage) and degeneration as well as mutation.  Toxins in the fatty tissue of the brain become neurotoxins that can cause cognitive problems and a host of mental and brain imbalances.

The way to avoid this storage of deadly toxicity is to keep stress down, while digestion and detoxification pathways remain good.

Burn Fat to Burn Toxins

When you burn fat not primarily for weight loss, (though you will lose weight) but for purification, you can turn on the body’s detox fuel.  Fat metabolism is the body’s natural form of energy.   Fat metabolism provides a more steady energy than glucose metabolism and flushes fat cells free of toxins.  As the toxicity drops, the nervous system has reduced stress and will naturally burn fat instead of sugar.

Intermittent fasting is one way to get the body to burn fat.  There is a way of eating that helps reduce weight, improve energy and purify the body as it returns to a state of natural health.
