Cotacachi Spa & Ecuador Web Business

Cotacachi’s (perhaps Ecuador’s)  most famous spa is La Mirage and seeing it could help you own your own Ecuador business.

cotacachi-spa

In a moment, there is a link to some great shots of La Mirage by Todd Smith.

However it is Todd’s success with his web business after attending our course that I want to share.

The global economy is going though a much needed cleanse.    A recent USA Today article reports that census numbers show that a record one in nine U.S. housing units are vacant, including about 3% of owned homes. The Mortgage Bankers Association says more than 2 million homeowners faced foreclosure last year. The median sales price dropped 12%, according to the National Association of Realtors — far more in parts of Arizona, California, Florida and Michigan.

This inventory is delaying any kind of housing recovery and will dampen the job market for some time.  This is especially true because of the lack of demand.

One in nine means that 14 million housing units are vacant. USA Today says: That number does not include an estimated 4.8 million seasonal or vacation homes, most of which are occupied part of the year. The combined vacancy rate of almost 15% is higher than during previous recessions: 11% in 1991 and 9.4% in 1984.

• About 3% of owned homes are vacant. In normal times, “maybe 1% should be vacant.”

This means we should not expect to see any economic recovery soon.

A recent New York Times article entitled “U.S. Is Pressed to Add Billions to Bailouts”  by Edmund L. Andrews, Andrew Ross Sorkin  and Mary Williams Walsh says:  The government faced mounting pressure on Monday to put billions more in some of the nation’s biggest banks, two of the biggest automakers and the biggest insurance company, despite the billions it has already committed to rescuing them.

The government’s boldest rescue to date, its $150 billion commitment for the insurance giant American International Group, is foundering. A.I.G. indicated on Monday it was now negotiating for tens of billions of dollars in additional assistance as losses have mounted.

Separately, the Obama administration confirmed it was in discussions to aid Citigroup, the recipient of $45 billion so far, that could raise the government’s stake in the banking company to as much as 40 percent.

The Treasury Department named a special adviser to work with General Motors and Chrysler, two of Detroit’s biggest automakers, which are seeking $22 billion on top of the $17 billion already granted to them.

All these companies’ mushrooming needs reflect just how hard it is to stanch the flow of losses as the economy deteriorates. Even though the government’s finances are being stretched — and still more aid might be needed in the future — it is being forced to fill the growing holes in the finances of these companies out of fear that the demise of an important company could set off a chain reaction.

This means the government is creatng more money then it has and we are likely to see inflation.

So what can we do?

One is buy real estate in California, Florida and some of the other hard hit states. There will be real bargains.  Merri are headed to Florida as fast as soon as we wrap up our March tours in Ecuador.

Start our own business. No other time offers such great opportunity. The old boys network is slashed. Big business cannot compete and labor has not been so abundant in decades.

This is why Todd Smith sets such a great example.

Todd attended one of our courses on how to self publish and has developed a growing, thriving internet business.

See Todd’s latest emailed message about La Mirage here.

Here are two important points about Todd’ success.

First he already had a successful wedding photography business. However hat type of business did not have the upside potential nor offer the freedom he desired.

Second he was not enjoying the business. The hours and the types of photography did not fit Todd’s desires.  He had a passion to earn in a different type of  photography.

So he turned his passion into profit!

Due to numerous successes like Todd’s and because of  the ideal business conditions created by the economic correction, I have developed a new course... The Tangled Webs We Weave…A Web Based  Business Course

Enroll here $299

You own web business provides enormous freedom.  You can like anywhere you desire…  a Cotacachi business is great. This is a quiet peaceful place without much crime, noise or pollution.    Merri and I  have have a web business that works in Cotacachi, the Blue Ridge of North Carolina or anywhere we choose in the world?

The reason we can have this freedom in business is passion.

I am one of the luckiest guys in the world because my children are continually doing things that I learn from.  This allows me to be a bragging dad and actually share a worthwhile point in the process.

For example Merri and I recently were reminded of the most important secret of business success from our youngest daughter, Eleanor.   Here is a shot of Merri and me riding the Virgina Creeper Trail last summer with Ele.

Cotacachi-business

Eleanor is just 27 but has already built a very successful London based business that not only provides her a six figure income, but gives her the freedom to travel the world.  This last year, she visited us twice in the US plus spent time in China  enjoying the Olympics and made numerous other trips.  She has over four months of each year to travel wherever she desires…and earn as she goes.

While she was last with us, we had a great deal of time to talk and she surprised me by sharing a valuable lessons about business.

The first lesson came when she was telling me about her latest efforts at getting some of her students auditions and roles in London West End shows.  Ele started as an entrepreneur early. She owns a performing arts school in London that teaches dancing,  drama and singing.  Here are some of her students in the production of Aladdin they are currently performing.

New-year-economic-lesson

Ele’s school is a franchised operation…one of about 600.  She is one of the youngest owners yet has one of the top ten busiest schools.

One reason for her success is the enormous energy and passion she puts into her business.  Another reason for  her success is she has a growing reputation for getting her students professional roles in the London theater.

She currently has eight of her students working in London’s West End.

Two are in the Sound of Music at the London Palladium on Argyll Street.

Two are in Rodger and Hammerstein’s Carousel at the Savoy on the Strand.

One is  in Disney’s  Lion King, at the Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street.

One is in Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

I was a bit surprised at this success and asked her “what is your trick”.  She replied:

“This is very simple.  I give the children who have extra talent free lessons. I bring them to my home and work with them there.”

When I questioned the wisdom of giving away her services as being part of a good business model, she replied:

“This is not about the money, Dad. The thrill of hearing those kids when they call me and tell  they were selected is worth every minute I put into this. I love those calls so much,  I am happy to devote my time and effort.”

This is the secret. Do what you love and figure out how to make money in the process.

In Ele’s case, she has profited indirectly…but the profit is not the purpose.  This is a matter of fulfillment and of the heart.

This has always been an important idea, but grows in importance now.  Our message about the upcoming 2011 disaster showed an economic distortion that is so grave it will force many of us to continue working… or  to work more then expected or… to start working for oneself when an existing job is eliminated.

This problem is so acute and the importance of having more people do what they love is so vital that we have decided to write a new course…on how to develop your own international internet business.

I have now started this course and before I launch it to the public want to make a special offer…that gives you this course free…or more.

Years ago, Merri and I  had 23,000 print readers…micro sized in publishing terms….but very, very profitable for us.  We made millions from this business.  We believe that in this rapidly changing world…small is beautiful.

When money stopped mattering as much, our children were grown, finished with university, we sold our print business and took a year off…lived with a shaman high in the Andes.

Then we morphed into an internet only business.  Our readership began small, with  about 1,600 email readers.  We expected to slow down and smell the roses more.  We even bought an isolated hacienda high in the Andes called Rosaspamba (Place of roses).

As crazy as it seems, we could actually run a business with this small readership and make a profit because our readers are so wonderfully responsive.

Why?  How?

This is what the new course I am creating will teach you….how to have a small, safe, profitable global internet business by creating wonderfully response, fun to be with, like-minded customers.

How small?

Today, our business remains micro sized but we have grown from 1,600 readers to four  main subscription lists consisting of 16,782 subscribers.

How safe?

The downturn of 2008 has not slowed us a bit.   In fact we  are growing faster, in number of subscribers and income, than ever.   December 2008 was our busiest month on the internet ever…by about 50%! January and February 2009 were up 226% over January and February of 2008.  This March we have almost surpassed March 2008 sales in the first ten days.

This is all at  a time when many say the world is economically depressed. Yet our sales are way up and growing almost every month.

How profitable?

Our list and sales are still tiny compared to many of our competitors and associates who make millions a month.   We make tens of thousands…sometimes hundreds.

Yet we have been able to add this extra income with a surprisingly small amount of added overheads.  This number works perfectly for Merri and me…a fun sized readership. In our opinion, this should be the key in business… satisfaction… fulfillment and fun…through service along with the profit.

Yet, profits do matter. Almost every month our internet sales have been rising. In 2008 they rose nearly every month and created a new record for web based sales for us.

These internet sales alone have given us the freedom to live in an isolated Blue Ridge farm during summers and in Ecuador the rest of the year…yet still earn many tens of thousands of extra dollars a month.

Now you can learn everything I do to create this extra income and have fun and fulfillment in a micro publishing business.

The syllabus of this course will help you learn how to find something that is fun, fulfilling and profitable for you to do.

Our growing income is one reason I have decided to create this course.

Second, the economic downturn of 2008 means that more of my readers will need a new way to earn in the years ahead.

Yet the third reason was the straw that made me decide to do this….my webmaster who helped me start this site agreed to co-write the course with me. Merri and I explain what we do in the business.  The writing…the marketing…the product planning and such.   Our webmaster outlines the technical part. How to chose a server…set up a shopping cart…create pay per click systems…send thousands of emails a day.

Though we like to remain small, this does not mean all of our students will.  Our webmaster started with us first but since has grown to be the chief internet consultant for several much larger internet marketing companies that send over a billion emails a year!

We are explaining in the course in detail as we develop it over this year…what I will share and what my webmaster will share as well…how the course will help you.  We are at chapter eight now and I honestly do not know everything what will be in the course.

Previous courses have always evolved as they are written because of the questions that are asked as the lessons are sent.

This is why I want to offer this emailed course (which has not yet be written) now so you can grow with the course as it evolves.

Here is a  special offer.

This new course entitled “Tangled Webs We Weave – How to Have Your Own Internet Business” is available at $299.

Ecuador Business Passion

Ecuador offers the  opportunity to add the power of passion in a new business that allows you to live anywhere in the world.

A recent message looked at the low cost of Ecuador living and warned about loving in Ecuador because it is so easy to fall in love with the people and the country here in Ecuador.

There is so much here as this shot of Crucita, Ecuador shows …the warm-but-cool enough-to-sleep-under-blankets weather… the wide empty beaches… the clean ocean… the sweet people… the simplicity of life.

Ecuador-passion

This could be a good time to return to this simpler way of living because the economic correction up north is breaking down  the old complex order there.

We see this economic shift every day now.

A New York Times  article last Wednesday entitled  Layoffs Spread to More Sectors of the Economy by Catherine Rampell says:  Companies across the board are resorting to mass job cuts, suggesting that employers expect a long downturn.

Another article said:  Microsoft Plans to Cut 5,000 Jobs  The announced cuts, about 5 percent of Microsoft’s work force, are fallout from a slowdown in sales amid the global recession.

We see economic problems in Ecuador as well.

We were just informed that the rose grower who has been supplying us has gone bankrupt here.  The US bought 30% less roses than the year before.  This is hard for the Ecuadorian workers who will be left without jobs.  The agent who handles our account is looking for another source of roses but we are not processing rose orders at this time until we find a sure source.

This, however, creates Ecuador opportunity in three ways.

First, the global economic problems means you an live in Ecuador for less! I am dong as series of interviews with couples who have moved to Ecuador and the common theme is that they can live well on less than $1,000 a month.

One Canadian couple who have moved to Vistaazul told me yesterday, “Our Canadian retirement pension pays us $2,300 a month. We live on $700 a month and save the rest!”

Living at Vistazul is not a sacrifice either! Here are some shots of the view I enjoy when I run my internet business from our Vistazul apartment.

I usually start at 6 am in the morning on my balcony… enjoying surf sounds and the ocean breeze.

ecuador-passion

Our living room enjoys the same view…  as does…

ecuador-passion our bedroom.

Second, this economic shift creates new Ecuador business opportunities. The end of one order begins a new way of life served by new businesses.  For example, our business is booming.  Our sales are up 52.89% in 2008 over 2007.  Our January 2009 sales are up 101.63% over January 2008!

Why, when so many businesses are slowing down everywhere, do some thrive?

This new opportunity comes from the third economic benefit…  a growing social-economic  awakening that makes life and business more fulfilling. I see this in the way our readers write to me.  Many more people are asking “How can I do more… help more…  feel better?“… rather than “How can I have more?”

They have more concern about  passion in business rather than just money.

We can see the power of this business passion in another recent message that outlined how our daughter Eleanor has excelled in what others call tough times.

She has built a London performing arts school that she bought into one that specializes in getting students auditions and roles in London West End shows.

Ele started as an entrepreneur early.  She is just 27 years old and her school is a franchised operation…one of about 600.  She is one of the youngest owners yet has one of the top ten busiest schools.

The reason for her success is the enormous energy and passion she puts into her business.

One is  in Disney’s, Lion King, at the Lyceum Theatre on Wellington Street.

One is in Les Miserables at the Queen’s Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

This success has come because she has such passion for her work that she gives free extra talent lessons.  She brings students to her home and coaches them for the auditions and works with them personally.

This new business passion attitude is seen in an email that Ele just sent to us.

Hi Dad,  Just to let you know I had another kid get into the new hit musical ‘Oliver’ today.  This boy was in trouble at school and had to leave and was going down hill…I met him while walking my dog Jack (his mum walks with me in park) and noticed he had a great face for the performing arts..so I said would he like to come for some free classes at mine which he did and he had a great voice.

I then worked with him over several months and put him up for Oliver. He then had 3 recalls and finally I got the call to say he got the part today!! Hopefully this will now  give him focus when before he was getting bored and frustrated at school.

Also I have 4 Chinese/Filipino students with a final recall on Wednesday for the King and I at the Royal Albert Hall – fingers crossed!

I’m enjoying this side of my work so much that I’m thinking about starting my own children’s agency but with a difference whereby my students get personal one on one coaching from me in preparation for the auditions. No other agency does this..they simply just tell a child when and where the audition is. Anyway lots to research but exciting anyway!   Hope you’re having a good day.”

So remember the following points during this economic correction.

#1: If the global economic contracts 20%…this is terrible.  More than 20% of businesses fold.  This leaves 80% of the businesses working and in better fundamental form.  Labor is easier to find.  More than 20% of the competition is gone.

#2: Do not be afraid to embrace this  changing perspective…away from materialism.. Do not fear looking for greater meanings in life and business.  This is good. Our world… our environment… our society needs this help from business… to move towards authenticity… integrity… towards true help and service.

Turn your passion into profit.  It may be easier t do in Ecuador but wherever this works for you… do it for the fun the fulfillment and the good of humanity as well as the profit.

Multi Currency Shifts

Multi currency shifts are bring great opportunity.

We live in such exciting times.  New waves of productivity are quickly eroding the establishment and creating opportunity for the small guy everywhere. Individuals can now be multi currency investors.  Multi currency businesses can now be started by a single person.

A recent message entitled Multi Currency Realities looked at  some of the fundamental ways the world is changing due to the internet.   We saw how Google, Napster,  Carig’s List, You Tube and many internet evolutions have rocked the establishment and their old ways.  This all helps us small guys be multi currency and multi nationally involved.

This destructive technology will bring more people to higher standards of life, but those who do not adapt will suffer as they try to hold onto old outmoded methodology.  A large chuck of society will be hurt.

Politicians will blame others for the pain. A favorite political trick to thwart anger is to use nationalism to blame other nations for negatives created by change. Yet the change is from technology and is global…no one’s (and everyone’s) fault and it is good!

Wise investors and businesses know this and look beyond these managed perceptions of the old guard.  They ignore the noise in the daily media and do not trust manipulation of information by governments.

We live in a global multi currency economy. We are global, multi currency spenders and those who prosper in the era ahead will have global views and business.

We can see this future in the present.

A great example of this new era was seen last week when broadband swept away old era of broadcast in the Olympics.

I am not much of a spectator but am keen on the Olympics this year because our daughter’s significant other, Ben Marsden is competing, a member of Great Britain’s field hockey team.  Go GB Go!

Here is our daughter Eleanor and Ben at our farm last summer enjoying more relaxing pursuits.

multi-currency-people

So I wanted to see the opening ceremonies as they opened!

NBC however decided (I am assuming for advertising purposes) to delay the show.

We, the market objected.  A New York Times article by Brian Stelter  entitled “Tape Delay by NBC Faces End Run by Online Fans” explains what happened:

“NBC, which owns the exclusive rights to broadcast the Olympics in the United States, spent most of Friday trying to keep it that way.

“NBC’s decision to delay broadcasting the opening ceremonies by 12 hours sent people across the country to their computers to poke holes in NBC’s technological wall — by finding newsfeeds on foreign broadcasters’ Web sites and by watching clips of the ceremonies on YouTube and other sites.

“In response, NBC sent frantic requests to Web sites, asking them to take down the illicit clips and restrict authorized video to host countries. As the four-hour ceremony progressed, a game of digital whack-a-mole took place. Network executives tried to regulate leaks on the Web and shut down unauthorized video, while viewers deftly traded new links on blogs and on the Twitter site, redirecting one another to coverage from, say, Germany, or a site with a grainy Spanish-language video stream.

“As the first Summer Games of the broadband age commenced in China, old network habits have never seemed so archaic — or so irrelevant.

“The Olympics to me is a benchmark for how fast we’ve gone with technology,” Brad Adgate, the senior vice president for research at Horizon Media, a media buying firm in New York, said. “Thirty months ago, no one was talking about YouTube. Now, it’s a verb.

This is probably the last time the Olympics can be controlled in this way.

TV (broadcast) still dominates the media. In another four years, by the Summer Games in 2012, “Olympic ad sales could be turned upside down.

All advertising and business will be different.  Broadband will become more important than broadcast.

This will become an era when small is big. Chris Anderson describes this in his book “The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less of More”.

The last marketing era was dominated by the big guys and broadcast. This was a distribution system where it was most efficient to send one message to millions of people.

The internet has introduced the era of broadband where it is most efficient to send millions of messages to one person each.  This favors us little guys.

Learn more about why at the Secret is Small

Count on this and adapt your multi currency business, investing and way of life now. Look for this incredible opportunity in businesses that are shifting from big to small, from local to global and from broadcast to broadband.

Until next message your  future encompass the world.

Protein Blackberry Pie Recipe

Summer sun shadows are cast deeper as the katydids suddenly go still. Sweet afternoon silence, rich in the day’s lingering warmth, falls like a warm blanket through the woods and the fullness of the day whispers with sweet promise at the coolness of dusk.

farm colors

Field at the top of our farm

August days up here in the Blue Ridge are perfect. Some days we might hit as high as 80 at high noon, then a quick evening cooling into the 60s and below, perfect for rocking on the front porch and watching the fireflies signal their light and glow show.

Eating is wonderful too as we live almost entirely off the garden at this time of the year, tender lettuce, rich onions and corn so sweet it does not need to be cooked. Squash of every type, beans, peas, bell peppers, Brussels sprouts and cauliflower…and of course luscious, most delicious tomatoes. This is a sweet feast enjoyed on our open-air deck with the creek rushing below. Throw in a little corn bread and we have a wonderful afternoon meal.

farm-view

Our daughter Francesca enjoying wildflowers and mountain views from the farm.

In the evening we eat lightly. Ayurveda, the Indian science of health, shows us that we have three cycles twice a day (air 2-6, water 6-10 and fire 10-2. The best time to eat our biggest meal is at the highest point of fire (12 noon) when the digestive fires are most bright (noon). Then in the evening we eat lightly and early so the body can use the second fire cycle to burn up accumulated toxins from the day.

Often our evening meal is fruit pie. Right now Merri whips up a wonderful blackberry cobbler and this is not an unhealthy food if you don’t overload it with sugar and white refined flower. Merri and I often have a nice piece of this cobbler instead of dinner. This is a great summer food and fits the season.  We grind Quinoa into powder and use this as half the flour for the crust and filling and stevia (go to www.stevia.net) as a sweetener, you have a delicious, balanced, low calorie meal.

Blue-Ridge-View

Hiking is also good for health. Here is our daughter Eleanor hiking above the farm.

Keeping your caloric intake down is one of the most important things you can do for good health and longevity. This has been scientifically proven and an article by Dr. Mercola “Insulin and Its Metabolic Effects” explains why this may be fact.

This article suggests that insulin is one of nature’s great balancers. Insulin is created by high amounts of blood sugar levels in the body. Lots of insulin is a signal that there is plenty of food supply and hence there will be plenty of population growing. Consequently insulin becomes an agent to decrease longevity, nature’s way of keeping the population in check.

Less insulin in the body signals that there is not so much food so the body may be needed to stay around longer to contribute to the gene pool! Hence those who consume less, live more. Consequently the protein balanced, low carbohydrate, cooling blackberry cobbler recipe below is a perfect and tasty alternative to a heavy evening meal. Enjoy the treat and be healthier.

Take fresh cleaned blackberries (ours are all organic so all we need to do is lightly rinse them in the pure spring water) and add just a bit of stevia…it sweetens yet does not raise the blood sugar level. You can squeeze a bit of lime over them. Then add a crumble top…famous in England and Georgia…(but I suspect made a lot differently than ours!) The crumble is made from equal parts of flour and quinoa powder with some organic milk to moisten. Cover the top of the blackberries with this mixture, then add just a smidgen of clarified butter.Bake at 350 degrees until hot and bubbly. We enjoy a cup of mint tea (from the mint that grows wild on the banks of Little Horse Creek) with this at day’s end.

Until next message, may all your secrets be healthy!

Places to Love

Our website focuses mainly on profits from international investing but our main theme is and always has been to “turn your passion into profit”.  Do things that are fulfilling in places you love.

This is why after 30 years of continual global travel for the past decade Merri and I have settled down and spent most of our time between just seven places:

#1: & #2: Ecuador’s Andes  and the North Carolina’s Blue Ridge…because we love the beauty and the people.

Blue-Ridge-View

Here is our daughter, Eleanor and boyfriend, enjoying a Blue Ridge view frm our farm.

#4: Florida…daughter, great son-in-law and our grandson.

#5: Oregon…mom…daughter, another great son-in-law and granddaughter.

#6: England…two daughters and one son.

#7: Copenhagen…because we really like Danes and love this city…plus we bank there and have a strategic alliance with Jyske Bank.  Plus Copenhagen is our favorite city.

A recent article in a London-based lifestyle magazine Monocle shows that others must agree:

Where’s the best city in the world?

Monocle recently scoured the world to find the ‘Best’ in various categories. Here are some of the results —

The Danish capital city of Copenhagen, however, stood out as the most exceptional city for its quality of life and status as a cutting-edge design center. Editors were impressed with the quality of the architecture to the fact that locals and visitors alike could buy a good glass of wine at 1AM.

Crowned as a global urban treasure, the city was complemented for its efficient compact size, its transport system and infrastructure, its contemporary buildings, fine restaurants and its renewed focus on environmental issues.

Munich and Tokyo came in at second and third place, respectively.

Here’s how the rest of the world plays out in the best quality of life category:

1. Copenhagen (Stroget is the longest, pedestrian-only thoroughfare in    Europe)
2. Munich
3. Tokyo

Opportunity in Change

The next few years will be filled with problems and this creates unprecedented opportunity for those who embrace change.

The key assets required are open mindedness, flexibility, imagination, energy, broad horizons, perseverance, vitality and faith in oneself.

We also need to be comfortable and enjoy what we are doing.

Pleasure is one of Western cultures’ least appreciated success tools.

The sensation we call pleasure  changes our brain chemistry in less than a second. Neuroscientist, Candace Pert, has proven that this emotional response creates corresponding brain chemistry that has receptor sites on cells throughout the body. Cells create tissue.

So, angry emotion…angry tissue. Stressed emotions…stressed tissue. Happy emotions…courtesy of pleasure…happy….healthier cells.

So I know if I force myself to run on a treadmill every day inside a square box of a room (no pleasure for me), it will not do as much good as hiking in nature’s glory like this.

Bike-Ride

Bike riding the Virginia Creeper Trail (17 minutes from our farm) with Merri and our daughter Eleanor.

Being in nature fill me with pleasure and wonder.

I can lift dumbells all day long in a gym, but that’s just not fun for me.

Yet I can jump in my pickup and attack these overgrown woods with this six pounds.

into this.

This does more for my strength than any weight lifting..not to mention my overall health.  Plus I gain a feeling of accomplishment.  We need to pursue our passions to protect our bodies and good health!

Then to see what the future holds and have the wherewithal to profit from it, we have to protect our minds and hearts by ignoring as much bad news that floods the media as we can.

Then we have to immunize ourselves from the sentiments and instabilities of the establishment that we cannot miss.

All of this requires good health and constant touch with reality.

This is why each month we write an article about an essential oil.  They can be the vaccine that protects us from the daily, useless rubbish and trash that the media slams us with. For example I recently learned that an Austrian kept his daughter hidden and pregnant in a basement for decades.

What possible good did that knowledge bring? How much did I gain from the time spent learning this?  What damage did the disgust and profound sadness for this girl do to my health?

How does such knowledge make us better, happier, healthier, more balanced  people ready to deal with the challenges of our evolving world?

Essential oils can provide the remedy that brings us back to a pleasurable balance.

Essential oils are refined purity…each revealing some honest aspect of nature…the beauty of the rose…bite of lemon…or the sweetness of jasmine.  Whatever the oil…pure essentials are reality refined.   When we inhale their truth or absorb it though our skin, their natural sincerity and pure strength communicate some frankness at the deepest levels of our existence.

Essential oils balance us and help maintain or return our health to us with a candid power that we cannot express in words or understand with our minds…but we know instantly with our heat and soul.

What is the greatest gift? Even the three wise men took Baby Jesus essential oils. That was no accident.

Essential oils can bring pleasure in one whiff!

This pleasure supports a healthy immune system (due to its natural chemistry, most essential oils are anti-bacterial and anti fungal) from a physiological response via the nose-brain connection. The aromatic molecules travel up the nose, connect to the olfactory nerves, and have a direct path to the emotional part of the brain. This creates a positive emotion which communicates with every cell in the body via neurotransmitters in a flash.

This is why Merri and I use essential oils every day, the day through. We massage our feet every morning with essential oil…rose to open the heart…

This is also why each month I include a message about an essential oil offered by our friend of over thirty years, Candace Newman.

This month Candace writes:

As John and I celebrate the 16th year of our company we are delighted to introduce our new OLA Comfort Care Pak, specifically designed to bring comfort into the world.
At these challenging times, essential oils are among the easiest things to use and are less expensive than most medicines. They are ancient medicine coming back into their own. Aromatherapy is a self-empowering tool. It helps us through transitions, and puts a sense of control back in our lives.
This comfort pak is for all of us! Each formula has a story behind it and the pak is dedicated to all of you who use this to comfort yourselves and loved ones. It is time for comfort … and therapeutic-grade essential oils know how to provide it!

The comfort Pac contains:

* Lavender Mist – contains pure essential oil of Lavender in a base of purified water, aloe and vegetable glycerin. Make big circular clouds of this aromatic delight around the head and face anytime … for a breath of fresh air, sense of comfort and a calm spirit.

* Rejuvenation Face Gel – our proprietary formula of pure essential oils of Sandalwood, Patchouli, Frankincense, Geranium, Rose otto; in our aloe and Organic Golden Jojoba base. These ancient oils are for calming the spirit and soothing the skin.

* Pure Lavender Essential Oil – Inhale from the bottle. Put 2-3 “taps” on a cotton ball. Tuck in a pillow or pocket. This is the #1 Oil of Balance for the central nervous system. It is the river of peace.

* OLA Four Blend – Lavender and Rose otto in Organic Golden Jojoba is our gentlest formula … Rose is the Oil of the Heart. Apply some to your nose, temples, and back of neck. It is perfect for a gentle hand massage and is great in your bath.

Sincerely, Candace Newman

Multi Currency Investing Beats Inflation.

Multi currency investing helps fight inflation.

As the US dollar falls, prices rise for everything….even local goods like food.

This is one reason Merri and I like to live on a farm with our chickens (eggs) and fresh natural fruit and vegetables. Here the blackberries are in bloom along our front yard fence.  We collect enough so that Merri can make a cobbler each week.

inflation-proof-blackberries

This is because there is a growing global demand for produce…wheat…corn.

Apples too but we have plenty growing here!

inflation-proof-apples

In short, people abroad are competing with stronger currencies for US food.

Yesterday’s message, Multi Currency Statistics, showed how this means that inflation is worse than statistics show.

According to US government inflation statistics, core prices described as “Core CPI” have risen just 2.3% in the last year.  Yet this figure does not include the price of food or energy.

In the last year, medical care costs have jumped 4.4%.  Food is up 5.1%.  Energy has risen 16.1%.   Over the past nine months, global food prices have soared 40 percent, while food reserves are at 30-year lows. These non included costs are what we spend most!

Plus according to a recent Reuters are article food prices are about to get much worse.

The article says:  “U.S. food prices will rise a stiff 9 percent a year through 2012, the largest increase since 1979 and the result of record-high crop prices,” the head of an economic consulting company said on Thursday.

“Retail prices on staple American foods rose by double-digit percentages in the last year, according to new data from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The cost of milk rose 26 percent, and egg prices grew by 40 percent.

“Food inflation could pose a more serious threat to consumers in the US than soaring oil prices. This is because food accounts for 13 percent of spending for average households, compared to about 4 percent for gasoline.”

What does this mean?

Yesterday I went grocery shopping. A small loaf of good sourdough bread was $3.99.

At 9% per annum here is what it will cost each year.

2009   $4.34
2010   $4.74
2011   $5.12
2012   $5.58

A gallon of organic milk yesterday was $8.38.

2009   $9.13
2010   $9.95
2011  $10.85
2012  $11.82

We do not buy eggs thanks to our friendly chickens who live with us on our farm.

As boomers begin to retire on their social security, a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk will leave $2.60 change from a twenty dollar bill…not enough to buy a dozen eggs.

This is why we need multi currency investments to protect against the falling US dollar and fight inflation.

Yet the problem may be worse.

Milk rose 26 percent, and egg prices grew by 40 percent in the US this year.

Worldwide, food prices have risen 45% in the past nine months according to the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization.

This creates enormous opportunity because it is a huge problem.  Problems  create opportunity.

Many people will become poorer because of this problem but wise investors will gain by investing in businesses that help solve these problems.

So what types of problems will a global food shortage create?

We can get a clue about one by looking at the Danish Pharmaceutical Portfolio we track in our Multi Currency Course.

Here is how it performed during the recent global equity set back..

Name                            Invested Amount           Recent Value
Genmab                             50,000.00                    39,903.33
NeuroSearch                      50,000.00                    36,475.09
Coloplast A/S B Aktie        50,000.00                    49,584.82
Novo Nordisk B                  50,000.00                    56,294.62
Alk-Abello B Aktie             50,000.00                    28,053.46
William Demant Hld.          50,000.00                    43,180.33

Why when this sector was slaughtered did Novo Nordisk shares rise 12% in three months?  One reason is this company is one of the largest producers of insulin in the world.  As food grows in cost more people eat less expensive carbohydrate food. Too many carbs in the diet encourage diabetes. Diabetes creates a demand for insulin.

This is another reason we like farm life with plenty of ponds and creeks filled with fish.

Those who change, adapt and invest in solutions to problems are those who will profit.

This is why we are examining seven multi currency shares including Novo Nordisk
