“Niche Buzz” Publishing & Competition

Publishing is fun… as well as profitable… and increasingly easy when you use your competition to help you succeed.

kindle-royalty

We began our Kindle publishing in March 2011.  Our first royalty check was $10.26 in May.

See how this and the next check… along with our competition can help lead you to greater financial security and satisfaction.

Here is an excerpt from the latest lesson of Self Publishing 202… Tidbits on Kindle

Self Publishing 202… Tidbits on Kindle

Lesson Four:  Threading a Focus Created by Competition

Often our biggest obstacles lead us to our greatest opportunities.  Obstacles like competition are really not obstacles at all.  Successful businesses don’t see competition as a problem… they use competition for stimulation and as leverage instead.   A lot of competition is a sign that there is a big problem that many people are trying to solve.  Problems create opportunity and competition can act like a slingshot to enhance your self publishing success.

amazon-check

My second check from Amazon.com com arrived in August.  The amount remains small… but is four time larger than the last.  See why I am excited about forty five bucks (and sixty one cents) and how I am getting help from what we have learned in this process and from my competition.

Today it is possible for anyone to have an international publishing business. The secret is simply to start, but to start slowly and grow from your existing experiences and skills.  This is what we are doing at Amazon and watching our competition will help the next step of  growth.

This “go slow” approach works especially well when you start your business doing something you enjoy.  This allows you to turn your passions to profits. For example, if you love to golf, consider publishing “The Guide to the World’s Best Public Golf Courses”. This is a publication that might even lead to organizing golf tours around the world.  We’ll look at the tour aspect a bit more in a moment.

Perhaps, your publication should be a calendar with 12 famous overseas golf courses.  A report on the best new golf clubs might be good.  If you are involved in natural health… how about “Seven Ways to Golf Yourself to Better Health”?  How about “When golf is important to you, which countries should you exclude to move to.”

The list of ideas could go on and on.   The point is you will turn pleasurable activity (to do a golf tour or a calendar, you obviously have to play those courses!) into a tax deductible expense and hopefully, make some profit as well.

This is one way to use competition to help you get ahead. Spot two large markets… like golf and natural health.  Create a niche using both of them like perhaps “Natural Secrets that Avoid Golf Injury.”  You create a unique niche within two large areas of focus… and have two markets… the golfers and the natural health believers to tap.

This is called “A Double Niche”. Remember the phrase because we’ll see later in the lesson how we expanded our profits and list size from 20,000 to 30,000 in a year in this way.

mail-chimp

Here are three simple steps, you can use to start your publishing business.

* Step #1: Become more informed.  Set a schedule. Regularly read everything you can about your area of focus. Remember, everything you read has been published by your competition!  Talk to experts (other experts if you already are) with an open mind and others involved in the area of interest.

* Step #2:  Get started in a small way.   Big is not better… especially when you start.  Make your mistakes (and you will) while your business is small. Mistakes are the magic markers in your learning curve!  Doing is a better teacher than the reading in Step #1 above.  This has been our Kindle approach using experience to help us create our plan.

* Step #3: Study your competition.  It is the confirmation that you are on the right track… that a market exists for your product, service or information.  The aspects of their service or product you hate are what you’ll avoid. What they offer that you love… you’ll make better.  The cost of their product… you’ll beat… in some way…though not necessarily with a lower price.

Let me insert an important point about pricing and profit here.   The key to maintaining profits is margin. Good margins usually mean good profits.  The way to maintain margins is to make your product, service or publication unique.  The reason we study our competition is not to create a similar product, that we sell at a lower price.  Similar products can become commodities and the only way to compete with commodities is by lowering the price.

The reason we study competition is to understand the problem they solve and to create a unique niche within that area of focus that can be uniquely priced (with an even better margin).

Let’s review  one other incredibly important point about publishing and price.  All the concepts of pricing in publishing are being thrown out the window because of epublishing.  Previously hardbound books cost $12.95 or $24.95 and  paperbacks $4.95.  With time and inflation the price doubled.  Normally 10% to 15% of this price went to the writer.  The balance was absorbed in the printing, publishing, promoting, delivery process.

When epublishing came along prices dropped in half.  You can buy most well known authors on Kindle for $12.95 or less.

This drop is not enough.  The publishing industry was dominated by the high cost of getting books to books stores. Editing, printing and shipping costs inhibited newcomers and this allowed the big publishers to be very antiquated and inefficient…. for generations.

This also left established publishers with a lack of imagination.  They were thrown into the highly competitive, rapidly evolving world of high tech… thinking like antiquated businesses spawned by Gutenberg. Cutting the price in half… when the costs of publication have dropped 80% and could drop 90% or more, is not enough.  The collapse of Borders is just the shot across the bow. Expect more established publishers to fold!

Merri and I read fiction to relax and we like most Baldacchi (James Patterson is too dark for Merri and me)… loved the Stieg Larson’s books. I am a Reacher Creature (Lee Child) and buy most of Michael Connely’s books and get a kick out of the Wizard PI from Chicago, Harry Dresden (Jim Butcher).   However, the last three books I purchased on my Kindle were none of these names.   Chris Culver, Rick Murcer and Kate Johnson got my money instead… new names selling their books at .99 cents each. They were all good and I am increasingly hesitant to pay $12.99 for a book when I can find a good read for .99 cents.  I am betting that millions of others are feeling this way as well!

This incredible drop in price is possible because in epublishing the margins are almost 100%!  Once the book is published and posted at Amazon.com, every sale is pure profit!

Amazon.com was evolutionary to spot this.  By creating their Kindle system for the new publisher they left the established author and the antiquated, established authors exposed.  The smart established authors will do okay. They’ll simply bypass their existing publisher and go direct.

Main stream publishing was never an industry where advertising counted a lot. Publishers threw a lot of mud…relied on word of mouth and protected that which stuck. This is why entry via the old system was so hard. Publishers did not know what new publication would work and were always afraid to step out…that cost too much.

The best the industry could do was put something on the shelf and try to get some buzz in the hopes that enough buyers would start a word of mouth trend.   Word of mouth remained the big marketing tool and the publishing industry again and again failed to see the next big thing coming… James Redfield (Celestine Prophesy)…  Harry Potter (JK Rowling) and the Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown) are three examples.

Each of theses author’s successes took the publishing industry by total surprise… followed by numerous lookalikes and a huge push to get these successful writers to create more and more books… creating the new brand driven novels… with James Patterson and Tom Clancy leading the way… basing their brand books on extensive market research and using their name but adding many coauthors.

With ebooks, in some ways nothing, has changed.  Word of mouth still reigns as the number one marketing tool. Technology however in other ways has changed everything making the buzz easier and allowed the creation of the “Niche Buzz”.  Remember this word “Niche Buzz” as we have just coined it here.

Remember “Niche Buzz” because this is what a lot of your course in the year ahead will be about.

When publishing was ruled by broadcast… a book’s appeal had to be large enough to cover the cost of marketing and delivering the book to the entire world. The closest the industry could come to focusing was to create genre sections in the bookstores. A book would be in the “romance” genre or  “mystery”, or “new age” genre, but the publisher still had to get books on shelves around the world.  It was hard to zero in low cost marketing to create the initial buzz.  Plus if the buzz did not catch and the book did not sell well… the cost of printing delivery and storage was huge and could be devastating.

Technology has changed all this.  Now it is easy and very inexpensive to create a niche buzz… to get word of mouth going through the small, well defined group of people who are the best potential buyers of any specific publication.

With this thought in mind, let’s see how competition can show you how to earn more.

A subscriber to this course…. a natural dentist who is expanding into publishing illustrates the importance of competition benefits when he wrote:  (Bolds are mine):   Gary, I wondering if you could take a look and let me know what you think, what you think might be missing, and any other advice you might offer.  I’ve also been communicating with another publishing adviser from another self-publishing system and wanted your opinion on something he’s said.

His thoughts were that a info book might be a product that would be difficult to sell because “so much info is readily available on the internet”.  What are your thoughts on the matter??  I know there’s info but it’s all scattered and needs to be searched for.  When I do keyword searches via adwords there’s plenty of traffic but not much competition when dealing with most of the topics we’ve written about.  Also any suggestions on my work in progress website would be great.  I“m going to model it after mercola to some degree and have some ideas for products that would enhance the sales of the books.

Let me know what you think.   Thanks a million.  This is really fun stuff.

This new publisher is spot on!  The more data… the more competition… the better!

The key is to just group your information into a short intriguing title…such as “Simple ways to cure a toothache”.

One of my most successful publications was called Fund Help International.  For many years over 1,000 readers paid me $149 a year to work one day a month.

I was paid $149,000 for 12 days work a year… or $12,416 a day. Not bad?  Actually there were some costs involved so my real income was probably only $10,000 a day. Still I can live withthat amount, even with inflation.

This was simply a publication where I took a huge volume of information about mutual funds that anyone could read… compiled this and made it an easy time saver.  Anyone could have done what I did… but it took a day a month.  Readers paid $149 to save 12 days a year.

The reader saved 12 days a year for $12.41 a day. What a deal!  My earnings for each day I saved them that time at such a low price was $12,416…plus all the material was there in just one easy to read or to scan in one format.

Digesting is such an important part of publishing in the internet era that Hewlett-Packard is gambling its future on this fact.

An August 2011 Economist article entitled “HP’s grand vision  – Aping IBM – HP needs to transform itself if it is to avoid becoming obsolete” (bolds are mine) says:

HP, the world’s largest computer-maker, unveiled plans to restructure and move out of hardware into software by spinning off the firm’s low-margin personal-computer (PC) business, and buying Autonomy, a British software-maker, for a handsome $10.3 billion. The article said:   The firm’s PC business is the world’s biggest, but is not as profitable as HP’s other units. What is more, most buyers of HP’s machines are consumers, whose demands shift faster and more whimsically than those of corporate customers. So HP intends to turn its PC business into a separate unit and then spin it off.

Buying Autonomy also helps HP to move onto higher-margin terrain: the British firm’s operating margins exceed 40%. But the main reason HP paid a 64% premium for its shares seems to be that it believes that Autonomy’s technology could be turned into a platform to help companies make sense of their ever-growing pile of data. This includes not only “structured” data (payroll records, sales figures), but also the “unstructured” kind (documents, e-mails), which now makes up more than 80% of the information that flows through a typical company.

In other words, Hewlett-Packard, the largest computer maker in the world just paid $10.3 billion betting that “so much info is readily available on the internet” an investment of this magnitude in software to solve this problem can bring a huge can bring a huge return.

There is the problem…”the ever-growing pile of data”. Your publication can be the solution.

The specialist who consulted with the publishing dentist said “a product would be difficult to sell because so much info is readily available on the internet” was a victim of old publishing thought.  That specialist was telling the dentist that there are already too many readers getting data.

If there is so much data out there… this means there are so many readers… and competition that can help you launch a digest or a more refined or “double niche”.

When I started publishing in the 1970s… I had a heck of a time selling my first book “Passport to International Profit” because there was no competition.  I have to say the book was prophetic… the idea being to invest globally when almost no one else was recommending that idea. That is why the book did not sell through mainstream media. There was no competition to back me up.  Most of the system opposed the idea at that time.

Later, the idea caught on.  Competition started to grow and educated the public on the value of the idea of diversifying globally. this is when our publishing that data hit the sweet spot as leaders in a field where our competition propelled us ahead.

While researching international investment opportunities, we visited Ecuador and fell in love.  We moved there and began promoting the idea… “invest in.. live in… and own real estate in Ecuador.”  Again the idea was slow to catch on… until we gained the benefit of competition helping sell the idea of Ecuador and living in Ecuador.

This is how gaining experience, competition and evolution work together in publishing.

The balance of this lesson shows how to create a study of competition that helps develop your own “niche buzz” and “double niche” publications.

Gary

I invite you to enroll in our course Self Fulfilled – How to be  Self Publisher.   When you enroll you will also, over the next year, receive “Self Fulfilled – Self Publishing 202… Tidbits on Kindle… a continuing courses based around our Amazon.com publishing efforts.

This course is unique because we are writing it as we learn how to publish on the Kindle and help subscribers do the same… so it is a real time course.

This is why we are excited about our second revenue check from Amazon.  We have published two Kindle publications… to get a feel as we studied the competition.

Now we are about to publish several more as we move into phase tow of our Kindle Marketing Plan.

“Self Fulfilled – Self Publishing 202… Tidbits on Kindle” is a course that never ends. This is increasingly important in this era when new technology makes such rapid change in how to do business.

How rapid is the change?

The next four chapters of Self Fulfilled – Self Publishing 202… Tidbits on Kindle will share… three case studies of our competition and our Kindle plan.  As you’ll see in one study… one of the best Kindle publishers used Twitter to climb to the top.  When we created our self publishing course and program on how to publish through the Internet, just a few years ago, Twitter did not exist!

Yet one cannot build a business just on technological whims.   Otherwise… assuming you capture some new marketing idea based on some new technology… your fall may be as fast… or faster than your mercurial rise.  This is why you should read more about Hewlett-Packard’s huge gamble

Instead a blend of solid business fundamentals that last forever needs to lead the way and be assisted by new technologies.

Big picture technological change have created internet marketing is broadband versus broadcast.  Broadcast was optimum sending one message to millions of people.  Broadband is optimum sending millions of messages to one person each.

Many publishers today are still caught in the old concepts of broadcast.  New internet publishers will lead the way and we plan to be one of them.

Publishing has become a technology business and this is a sector of commerce where evolution takes place at a rapid pace.

But HP and its new boss should not be faulted for trying. They have little alternative, if they wish to avoid becoming a collection of commodity businesses. “Technology is a brutal business,” says Mr Apotheker. “If you don’t innovate and reinvent yourself, you will become obsolete.”

I would like to share what we learn as we evolve with you.

Special September only offer.

One reason we have not become obsolete in our 43 years is that as we evolve we publish AND conduct seminars and tours.  writing and speaking both convey information and some years our publishing goes well. Other years the seminar business takes up the slack.

Seminars and publishing go hand in hand.  This is why we have started another never ending course “Event – Full Business – How to Earn with Seminars & Tours”.

In our September only Special Offer when you subscribe to “Self Fulfilled – How to Be a Self Publisher”,  you receive “Self Fulfilled 202… Tidbits on Kindle” and  you can have the $349 “Event-Full” course for just $1… you receive all three online courses for $300.

Enroll for all three online courses for $300 here.

Invent a Future – By the Inch

Here are ideas on why it is important to invent a future by the inch.

I do not know whether the global economy in the months ahead will pick up or slow down.  I do not know whether nations will grow rich or go broke… or if stock markets will rise or fall.

I do know that whatever happens there will be opportunity.  I also know that if I concentrate on improving myself… my thinking… my health…. my energy and skills and remain observant… I might spot some of it… some opportunity.   Then if I take a little risk… one inch at a time, work hard and have a spot of luck… something good will appear.

So when autumn comes early here in the mountains I take advantage of the season.   Autumn is my liveliest  time of year.   This is not surprising.  In the Ayurvedic view of health we consist of three elements (called doshas)… water, fire and air.  We have a make up or constitution… water-fire or fire-water or fire-air or air-air, etc.   The key to good health is to keep all three elements in our constitution in balance.

There are three seasons as well… water, fire and air.  In the summer (fire season) one has to pacify the fire.  Autumn and winter are the air season so one has to pacify the air…  unless they need more air.   People of my composition… fire-water love autumn!  The dry, crisp cool air creates the perfect balance.

Last June when I reviewed my vedic chart, Blaine Watson outlined how beginning August 13  I would feel extra energy.   Sure enough… I did. despite being on the cusp of my 65th birthday, I have been feeling more energetic than when I was a kid.

So I ignored the other part of that reading from Blaine… unpredictable TAKE ONE STEP AT AT TIME.

So a week ago I was bustling… finished all my work and decided  to play the in the woods and climb some trees.

This is when I was reminded how life is often measured by the inch.

We have several wildlife observation stands on the farm…

wound

There was a wildlife observation stand hooked up  at the dark spot way up the tree… about

wound

20 feet off the ground when observed from below. This has since been turned into

wound

a pile of rubble.   All that is missing in the picture is me… lying on top of it where

wound

I landed head first on this board.  The dark spot on the left.  That’s a bit of me.

Our grandson is coming up shortly for Memorial Day and I have corn and camera set up near this stand so we can climb up in the stand and watch and photo the game.   We love doing this.

Here’s a photo of two deer coming in.

deer

This is such a great way to get an nine year old who already thinks we are a bit fuddy duddy because “papa and grandmerri do not have TV” (how horrible!) out of his computer games and videos and into nature and the woods.

I wanted to check out the stand and make sure it was safe.  I put up a 20′ steel ladder, climbed up on the stand and forgot Blaine’s warning… TAKE ONE STEP AT AT TIME.  I took two steps at once… putting my full weight on the stand so the entire structure immediately collapsed plunging me head first towards the forest floor… a swan dive with a fairly hard ending.

Fortunately my leg caught in the ladder and scraped all the way through. This gave me a great long raspberry but slowed my descent just enough to turn a broken skull into just a daze and a headache.  It jerked my knee and foot pretty good and left me hobbling around for a few days but all appears to be well now.

The inches?  When I opened my eyes on the ground and looked at the board I had hit, right next to my head you could see this a bit…

wound

clearer…a three inch nail.   You can see it to the right by the dark spot in the previous picture of this aboard above.

How close did the nail come?

wound

Close enough for scar potential… more about that in a moment.

Had I landed an inch to the right this could have been a very different picture and I doubt it would have included a smile.

So every day is always a gift. Appreciate them. I see mine as double gifts now.

There are two points to share here.

First, I should have seen this coming. I had been warned about the exuberance and the risk.

This is why we sponsor courses conducted by Blaine Watson… our astrologer,  on how to use Vedic Astrology to “Think Outside the Box” and “Invest Beyond Logic”.

A reader who is attending Blaine’s September course wrote:   Hi,  I’m wondering if there is an itinerary for the September “Business and Investing Beyond Logic” course.  I’m planning to come but the lady who is considering joining me is asking about this.  She does believe in the idea of Astrology but wants to ensure she will gain enough value.

My reply may help you understand Blaine’s course better. Thanks for asking.  Blaine’s course begins In the Blue Ridge at 1 pm Friday September 23, 2011 and ends around noon on Sunday September 25th.   The course includes a free personal reading but that normally takes place later over the phone.

Blaine has changed his course every time he has taught it so I don’t have a clear idea of exactly what he’ll teach in the upcoming course.

I have copied him to see if he can fill us in but he is in Europe now so it may be a week or so before he replies.

What Blaine will teach are the fundamentals of Vedic Astrology so that course participants will come away with a sense of familiarity and comfort with the science and be able to follow their own horoscopes at home.

Then you will learn a detailed description of the chart, how it is laid out, the significations of the planets, the 12 signs, the 12 houses, the 27 nakshatras or as well as an explanation of the planetary cycles (dashas) and transits (gochar).

In the last course he delved more deeply into how to use this in developing one’s investing and business activity.  He uses my chart as an example so delegates can get a real time, practical example of how one can use the data Vedic Astrology provides in a realistic meaningful way.

I help in the course by providing an overview of the science tying it into quantum physics. Then I show how Merri and I use this information in a practical way integrating this with logical thought to come to conclusions and actions.

Plus we look at the importance of thinking outside the box in today’s fast moving world.  The entire world’s educational system is aimed at teaching us lessons from the past… that so rapidly become irrelevant that we need to think beyond logic to stay ahead.

I hope this is helpful. Don’t hesitate if you have other questions.  Gary

Blaine added to this and wrote:  Gary has summarized the course very well. This time I am planning to add a couple of subtle but practical exercises to demonstrate, hopefully clearly, how we are the creators of time and space.   Everyone will benefit from these techniques.  Also I am adding the frequency modulation music to enhance the comprehension of what I say. Blaine

Monday’s message looks at the scars and how they can help earn income for you… anywhere.

Until then… enjoy your weekend one inch at a time.

Gary

Self Publishing Note

Here is a self publishing note… “because our publishers recently lowered the price on our publishing course. I am repeating this information”.

Profits can be kindled with this question… which would you rather have… 12% of $10 or 70% of $3?

The math to this question brings an obvious answer and creates a business opportunity.

kindle

Merri and I have loved our Kindles since they day they became available. Now you’ll see why we love them even more and how that passion can create profit and opportunity for you!

But you don’t even have to own a Kindle to take advantage of these profits and opportunities!

Growing numbers of “indies” (short for independent) writers are using Kindle to sell their publications.

There is a great story about a 26 year old who has cut out BIG publishers by publishing direct to the  Kindle.

She is writing stories about trolls and is one of the top selling “indie” writers on the Kindle store.

This means she has not had a publishing deal. This allows her to keep 70% of her book sales.  According to the New York Times in an article on her she is selling up to 100,000 electronic books a month.

That is impressive when you consider that  it only takes a few tens of thousands of book sales at launch to get on the New York Times bestselling list.

The heck with lists! How about just writing and publishing?  Her formula is to lower her sales price to between $.99 to $3.00.  This compares to the typically $9.99 to $12.99 for other books on Kindle.

The lower price increases volume…. plus this cuts out a publisher, distributor and book store who normally absorb up to 88% of the income created by a book.

There are no printing costs, no shelf space, no inventory, no postal delivery.  Most of the publishing expenses are eliminated.

The writer keeps 70%.

Amazon keeps 30%.

A typical writer earning 12% of the book sales makes about $1.20 per $9.99 book sale.  A Kindle writer makes $2.10 on a $3 sale.

Previously one of the best selling Kindle writers was J.A. Konrath, but it was assumed he was popular because he previously had a publishing deal and so already had notoriety. That’s not the case with this girl (her name is Angela Hocking), who published stories on her blog before turning to Kindle. In fact, out of the top 25 best-selling indie Kindle writers, only 6 were previously affiliated with a publishing house.

If the story of 26 year Angela Hocking is true… a 100,000 sales at $2 average brings in $200,000 a month and her earnings are $140,000 a month.

That is a great income.

Not every writer will do that well.  Most of us don’t need to!

This is a new exciting era for writers.  Not so good for publishers who do not adapt.

However like small bookstores, small publishers have great opportunity as well.

Smart publishers who use this technology gain the following benefits.

* Printing, shipping and disposal (of unsold books) costs eliminated.

* Shelf space unlimited and almost free with no capital costs.

* There is increased sales volume. Kindle owners buy more books than print readers and will spend weekly to get new chapters rather than entire books.

There are three keys to success in this type of writing and publishing.  We have repeatedly stressed them at our websites and in our business courses.  Focus…. focus…. focus.

Buyers of books fall into niches.

Those who succeed are those who focus on a niche and create trust with those readers.

Take Merri’s and my publishing business as an example. Our readers know that the site content is about leading edge ideas related to fighting inflation, global investing, having micro businesses and being free to live anywhere.

These websites create a community of like minded souls around this niche.

Once a writer has become branded and has a list of readers,  it is easy to expand by adding authors and related topics, and editing the books of other authors, knowing that they can help them sell their books.

Some amazing websites and businesses will be built and Kindle will be the search engine… the jumping off point is finding the original readers who will become the core of your list!

I plan to also take advantage of Kindle publishing and have a great head start (our list) and want to share what I learn in the process with you.

Technology especially favors small publishers today. Portable computers, the internet, wireless access, on demand printing smart phones and electronic readers all create enormous new potential for small publishers.

Let me share an example created by the recent nuclear events in Japan.  Merri and I had unfortunately been near Chernobyl when it melted down. We suffered from radiation exposure and have been in the past two decades learning how to cure ourselves.  We know numerous ways to help readers protect against excessive radiation.

The day of the nuclear event I spent the entire day writing and by the second day of Japan’s disaster had already published the report  “7 Steps to Protect Against Radiation Poisoning“.   My publication was the first to help in the this way and was available on Kindle just one day after the nuclear disaster. No big publisher could close to even thinking up a publication… much less publishing a valid report that fast.

This is why I am making one last special offer for our self publishing course. Early in 2011 I announced that a large publisher wanted to put this course online.  That deal was concluded and they began publishing our self publishing course.  They felt the existing price was too low so they raised the course fee from $299 to $499.

Part of my agreement is that I raise my price as well so after April 24, the price of this course was raised to $499 at our website catalog.

I have been informed that they are now offering a $299 special so you can now save $597 and $200 extra… with this special offer.

Self Fulfilled Special $299

If you take advantage of this offer there is one more benefit… you’ll also receive Self Publishing 202… How to Publish on Kindle.

As shown above I have already started learning the ropes on how to publish via Amazon.com and Kindle. I’ll be adding a addition to our self publishing course… “Self Publishing 202… Tidbits on Kindle.”  Four lessons are complete.

Those who take advantage of the special offer below will receive this new addition at no extra charge.

See below a special offer that save $597 normally… $200 extra now through the end of this week and get the Kindle course all for $299.

Embrace the Predictions of Disaster Zone.

Do less… Gain more as global trouble unfolds.

Online Writers and Publishers Course  “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher”

Self Fulfilled Special $299

The last few years have seen the evaporation of many dreams. The global recession… rising gas prices…  massive home foreclosures… a weakened, falling US dollar and rising unemployment wiped out many hopes, ambitions and plans.  Then came turmoil in the Middle East and a Tsunami in Japan and the debt crisis and lowering of US risk rating.  Now Japan’s credit has been lowered below even AA.

Who knows what could come next.   A double dip recessions, stagflation… massive job layoffs… more federal, state, county and city debt and government burdens on our lives. Demolished Medicare and health benefits. Rampant inflation.

Despite these disasters and the risk of more, one exclusive group of small businesses have prospered. They will continue to do so, regardless of the unexpected, abroad or at home.

In fact these businesses will do even better… gain higher respect and earn more profit as they help ease disasters… because these business are small publishers who can help their readers deal with global and local problems as they unfold.

Small self publishers are in a win – win situation for many reasons.

The massive expansion of information is overwhelming the world. There is so much new data coming in that the public cannot keep pace.   This forces us all  to be more discriminating… which is the worst thing that can happen to big publishers who rely on broadband where its best to send one message to huge groups.

The huge inflow of new knowledge favors broadband which works best sending many different messages to much smaller groups.

Self publishers have also gained an advantage as most of the big booksellers are going broke or in a slump. Barnes & Noble has had enormous challenges. 2010 Books-A-Million comparable store sales dropped nearly 5 percent and net income fell 35 percent. Borders has filed for bankruptcy.  All 798 B. Dalton mall outlet bookstores have closed and over 180 of the Waldenbook units are gone.  This vacuum creates a special opportunity for small self publishers.

This is why you should see three case studies below to help you be free, secure and fulfilled as a Self Publisher.

Here are the three stories that show how the rise of the small self publisher began.   This knowledge can bring you secure income for the rest of your life. More importantly these stories can help you be happy and fulfilled and safe in this ever changing world.   With these case studies you help make the world a better place… in a small way perhaps… but better as you gain everlasting wealth.

Lets share how to create a fortune  in a rewarding career.

The first of these three stories contains the seeds of prosperity, richness, freedom and satisfaction for you.

The story begins with an excerpt from the December 16, 2010 Economist Article entitled “Rise of the image men” begins: (bolds are mine) that says:  As they prepared to face their second big strike in four years, America’s coal-mining bosses knew they had to do something about the newspapers. It was 1906—a time of rising resentment against robber-baron capitalism and the heyday of muckraking “yellow journalism”. During the previous strike the trade unions had fostered good relations with newspapermen and won themselves a sympathetic press. To help put their side of the story, the mining bosses turned to a former journalist, Ivy Lee.   Lee was to pioneer new methods—and, in the process, create a new industry.

Lee observed that the rise of national newspaper chains and syndicated journalism in America since the 1880s, combined with the extension of the franchise, had profoundly changed society. Now, for the first time, there was something that could accurately be called “public opinion”, a shared consciousness and conversation across the country—and it was to be feared. Lee noted how the emerging mass media were acting as the conduit for the anti-capitalist message of Progressivism, the liberalising reform movement that peaked in America in the early 20th century. He realised not only that it was essential for businesses to counter this message, but that the same conduit could be used to spread pro-business sentiment.

His idea, blindingly obvious now but a novelty then, was to send newsdesks a stream of statements putting the mining bosses’ case and rebutting allegations against them.

The seeds in this story, are rich with potential for your prosperity and are so simple. This is obvious now but was a novelty then.

The real seed is that a coincidence of many technologies changed the world (in the form of the newspaper)… at the turn of the 20th century. One technology was the ability to make newsprint… the paper of newspapers.  Paper was two thousand years old, but cheap newsprint, paper from wood pulp, did not come along until 1838 when Charles Fenerty of Halifax made the first newsprint while helping a local paper mill maintain an adequate supply of rags to make paper.  He succeeded in making paper from the wood pulp itself.

Plus technologies in transportation and communication then allowed… everyone, reporters to paperboys, to create public opinion through the power of the word.

This leads us to the second story that tells of another global transformation from broadcast to broad band… from large publishing to Self Publishing and how you can have so many good things you desire… freedom… material wealth…adventure… security… fulfillment… friendships…. status and fun as a Self Publisher.

Perhaps what Merri and I are most proud of this second story because it tells the tale of a student who used our publishing course “Self Fulfilled How to be a Self Publisher” to build a career.

David Cross was a meditation teacher in Edinburgh Scotland who taught our son Jake the art of meditating when Jake was at university there.   We meet David there and after talking he ordered our “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher” course then in print… (now its online) and published a report.   One reader of the report had a new internet server business and was so impressed that he hired David to work for him in Sweden.   In the process of rising to become the managing director of that firm… David started our website (and is still our webmaster as well as business partner now).  During one business meeting in London, David met our daughter Cinda. ‘Love at First Sight.”

David Cross and Cinda Scott-Cross DVM.

David also met executives of International Living and went on to become Chief internet consultant for Agora Inc. one of the largest online marketing companies in the world.

David has since built an unparalleled, hands-on marketing experience that spans 25 years in 22 countries for companies and charities large and small. He’s guided many businesses and individuals to success in their business and helped them achieve their marketing goals, both online and offline.

As Senior Internet Consultant to Agora Inc. in Baltimore, MD, David worked closely with Agora’s publishers and marketers and over an 8-year period helped to propel Agora’s online revenues to over $300 Million in 2009.

Myles Norin, the CEO of Agoras wrote: “I have found David’s knowledge and experience unmatched in the industry. Without David’s expertise and guidance for the past 7 years, we would not be nearly as successful as we are.”

David hails from England and now lives on a small farm close to Mount Hood in Oregon with our daughter, a veterinarian, their five children and a menagerie of animals. When not marketing or brainstorming you’ll find David following a dream of self-sufficiency for food, power and water within 10 years, tending the land and caring for the farm and animals. Not surprisingly, David is an engaging and knowledgeable speaker with many amusing anecdotes from his work and travels over the years.

Such is the power that Self Publishing brings.

The third story is of my wife Merri and me.

Merri became involved in self publishing over 40 years ago… first helping a veterinarian publish a book on a very specific market… animal acupuncture. Then she showed a needle point artist how to sell more books to an even more specific audience… “needle point enthusiasts”  about her needle point work to an audience larger than the population of the city she lived in.  This led Merri to eventually become Executive Editor of an award winning magazine in Florida.

My story allowed me to work and live from Hong Kong to London to Europe to Eastern Europe, then the Caribbean and then Ecuador… making millions in the process of following my adventures and having fun… while helping a large readership adapt to a rapidly changing world.

Self Publishing has created exactly the lifestyle I desire with a farm in North Carolina, orange groves and home in Florida… hotel and condos in Ecuador working at what I love and enjoy.

Merri’s and my story also reflects how Self Publishing can enhance relationship.  Merri and I have not spent a night apart since we began publishing together over 30 years go.

Merri and I heading up to a seminar hall at our Blue Ridge farm to speak with a group about Self Publishing.

Self Publishing has entered a new era as a new business art form and we want to share with you how to start your own  self publishing business now.

Learn how to develop your publishing skills to turn your passion into profit!  If you can’t write… publish instead!

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it AND even create a six-figure income. This could be your direct ticket to the kind of fulfillment you’ve always wanted in life. Whether you want to travel the world or live as a recluse, work 12 hours a day or not work at all, learn more about golf or feeding the hungry… it can be yours if you’re willing to learn.

Self Fulfilled: How to be a Self Publisher will teach you our proprietary step-by-step plan for getting your publishing business going… full or part-time… right away.

How you can start with a very small amount of money and eventually work only four hours a day (if you are operating full-time).

11 steps to creating the perfect product, including how to review ideas, test focus, and aim at markets.

How to gain 1,000% returns on some of your publications.

How to choose a format—book, newsletter, list, audio or video—that suits you and your audience.

Frequently committed marketing mistakes and how to avoid them (plus, you’ll get samples of winning marketing pieces to study).

Personally, I like to write. And through publishing and writing, I have become wealthy beyond my dreams!

My wife, Merri, and I became multi-millionaires within 10 years of starting our self-publishing business. Today, we have more cars than we can drive, five homes and numerous cabins in North Carolina and Ecuador.  We have a beautiful lake front home on 16 acres (with an orange grove to boot).  We have no mortgages, not a penny of debt, and plenty of money in the bank.

But more important than the money, I enjoy the bliss of each and every day, doing what I love and hoping I can do it forever.

And why wouldn’t I? I often start my work days at 5:00 a.m. and wrap up by 9:00 a.m. That leaves the rest of the day to do mostly as I feel. If the kids are home, we’ll play. Other days, I just putter. Some days I take out a canvas and paint or concentrate on playing my flute. Other days, I just sit in the sun and read.

But even though my day’s work is often finished by the time many people are just getting started, I will still be thousands of dollars richer by the end of the day!

Of course I don’t always work just four hours a day. Some days I stay at the keyboard seven, eight, even 12 hours. But the thing is I love every minute of it, because I’m involved in projects that excite me!

Not only am I learning, writing, and publishing about things that I love, but I’m also making myself and the world a better place in the process. This life is as perfect as any I could ask for.

It Doesn’t Take Long to Start Making Serious Money

When I started my publishing business, I made a 380% return on my initial investment within a month. And it just got better from there.

Of course, no business is without its pitfalls. In fact, I’ve identified 17 pitfalls of publishing and they are covered in the course. It took me more than a decade of struggle to learn how to avoid them all, but I did it.

You see, back in 1974, I had what I thought was a good business, but to be honest, I could never get ahead. I was almost penniless, in debt and living from hand to mouth. Then I discovered the secrets to avoiding the pitfalls. Since then, our publishing business has brought in millions.

Now, Merri and I have packed over 40 years of global publishing and business experience into our course on how to have Self Publishing business.

Before I tell you how this program can help you create your ideal lifestyle, I want to make an important point. I’m not promising that this program will make you rich overnight or that you’ll wake up tomorrow with a more satisfying life. If you’re looking for a way to get rich while you sleep, you should stop reading right now.

But if you’re willing to invest a reasonable amount of time and effort into learning and applying this simple system, it will put you squarely on the road to becoming a wealthy and fulfilled publishing entrepreneur.

Through this in-depth program, I will share, teach, and guide you on everything you need to find a fulfilling path and start making good money right away.

I’ve structured the program to make it as easy as possible for you to implement. You’ll know precisely what to do from the very first day till the day you have a thriving publishing business.

You can start part-time with any dream, passion, and budget. Once you’ve created a product, you’ll enjoy the “multiple effect” of producing profits over and over again.

So the question is… What do you love to do?

What’s Your Passion:  Helping People Who Are in Pain?

Thirty years ago, a client of Merri’s developed a series of pamphlets explaining various chiropractic disorders in very simple terms.  For example: “What Is Whip Lash?”

The pamphlets contained solid information, but were simple 5″ x 7″ brochures with drawings and explanations. He sold them with a rack to chiropractors, who put them in their offices for patients to read.  These little self-published items have sold year in and year out for three decades.

There are thousands of ideas of this sort that can lead to big business. It’s just a matter of figuring out and then acting on your passion.

Although I can work when I please and go where I wish, for me the most important reason for being a publisher is the satisfaction it brings. I love the projects I take on, so work doesn’t feel like, well… work.

I’m passionate about investing, so I publish about that. But what matters is what do you love?

If you love golf, then you can publish things about golf.  Love travel, fishing, dogs, dolls, or art?  Publish about those things.

Are you concerned about crime, war, poverty or environmental issues? You can publish information products that help wipe them out.

Would you like to help the world be a more spiritual place? Publish a newsletter, write a book (or hire someone to write it for you), record a tape… do something that enlightens people.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it and make a fortune by publishing CDs, lists, books, or any format you choose.

How to Build a Million-Dollar Business in Seven Years

The first time I exposed others to the secrets in Self Publishing: Your Complete Business Plan for Creating a Life Without Borders, it was in a weekend seminar. People from all walks of life attended—chiropractors, businessmen, investors, doctors, realtors, inventors, airline pilots, engineers, and housewives.

Merri and I were so overwhelmed by the response to the seminar, we decided to make it available to a larger audience.

Unlike programs that are put together by “experts” who have never actually done what their program promotes, this program is not theoretical. It describes step-by-step how Merri and I built a million-dollar international business in just seven years.

Another thing that is unique about us is that Merri and I decided to do the whole business by ourselves. Though we have tens of thousands of buyers and have made millions, we still work at home and do not employ a single person. You’ll be able to do the same—if you wish—because I’ve included everything we did—explained in vivid detail—in the program.

The program is also full of practical publishing ideas and case studies…

For example, you’ll learn about a pilot who published a book on the best airport cafés (suddenly all his flying became tax-deductible!)… how one couple who loved an island wrote a guide on the place and made enough money to buy a home on the beach there… and how another couple made millions with a simple legal idea.

What’s Your Passion: Travel and Tourism?

A client of ours amassed a fortune by starting travel guides for cities. He started with Sarasota, Florida, publishing a simple booklet with attractions, restaurants, etc. and plenty of advertising. Then he moved onto Naples, and on and on,until the whole state of Florida was done.

He didn’t have to put much work into the booklets as he could carry over plenty of generic information from booklet to booklet. But there were plenty of advertisers and plenty of people who wanted to obtain these booklets.

Finally, he franchised the whole operation.

* How to set up a computerized fulfillment center even if you’re computer illiterate.

* How to turn advertising dollars into a fortune by creating winning ads, direct mail pieces, and getting thousands of dollars in free publicity.

* Which printers to avoid and how to cut your printing bill in half by asking for quotes differently.

* How to use your computer and the internet to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in printing and postage.

* How to control inventory, check ad results, and keep overhead down.

* 11 financial hazards to avoid and tricks to stay profitable without a daily accountant.

* My secret pricing strategies that will help you sell more units of your product.

* Plus much, much more that I don’t have space for here!

Why This Unique System Is Guaranteed to Put You on the Road to Publishing Success

In Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher Merri and I give away every publishing secret we know and expect those who use this powerful program to reap a fortune and change their whole life for the better.

Why we’ll add the Self Published Kindle addition free.

This course is updated regularly, it is based on the trial and error experiences Merri and I have had for the past 43 years… the very experiences that have made us self-fulfilled multimillionaires.

If you’re wondering what a program like this can do for you, just take a look at how much my seminar on publishing helped the participants. Here’s what some of the folks had to say about what they learned:

“The course fulfilled all my expectations providing all the details necessary to start a publishing business from creating the idea, through marketing including the systems necessary to implement our ideas.” — B. C., Chiropractor  California

“Gary, your system is jam packed with vital information. My head is spinning. Thank goodness this is all backed up by your manual. This is a true and cherished gift. Your tips are a blessing! Thank you once again. The value far exceeds the price.”  — B. K., Investor Pennsylvania

“The course was excellent covering all the facets of publishing. The philosophy of keeping small with no employees alone made the course invaluable. Gary and Merri, you were excellent!” — S. K., Businessman
Georgia

“Your program gave me insight on what to do with widening my client base.”
— M.E., Real Estate Broker Florida

“We found the course interesting and informative. We were inspired to start work on a booklet. When we came down, we had no idea what to publish.”
— Employed couple from New York

“Your publishing course is outstanding! Just two hours of study on Sunday alone were worth more than the course price.”
— A publisher from California

“The course helped me in three ways. #1: To realize that it is not only OK but preferable to start small. #2: A small point but with big implications was Merri’s description of how she is going to make Gary an expert in the sport’s field. #3: I feel I have a workable program to have a newsletter — my own passion!”  – T. B., Professional Washington

These are just a few of the many comments I’ve received from people I’ve personally trained at my seminars to turn their passions into profits through publishing.

What’s Your Passion:  Expand Your Current Business?

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel with your publishing business. You can use publishing to expand your current business. That’s what I did — and it’s what the owners of a consulting firm in California did, too.

These business owners decided to write and publish books to establish credibility and attract new customers — and it worked like a charm.

Over the past 10 years, they have written two books, both aimed at establishing their company as the go-to source for customer service training. They credit the books with bringing in more than $1 million in new business!

Writing and books have turned into such a bonanza that they’ve recently added a new service to their business — coaching small business owners on the ins and outs of book publishing.

This brand-new home study version of the program is designed only for people who are serious about making a six- or seven-figure income, controlling their own destiny, or otherwise improving the quality of their life by publishing information products. It is not for idle curiosity.

Here’s How to Start Living a More Fulfilled Life As a Self-Publisher

With this hot-off-the-presses home study version of my self-publishing program, you get all the same information as people who attended that first seminar—but at a fraction of the cost.

They paid $2,000 to gain access to this information, but you can get the entire Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher for only $499!

That’s a real bargain considering that you will save thousands on printing and advertising alone. And you couldn’t duplicate the computer and internet knowledge you’ll gain for $20,000. For starters, you’ll learn:

* How to use the internet to publish

* How to define and target your internet market, and start getting visits

* How to develop your website

* The top 10 internet tips to use and the top 10 traps to avoid

I can tell you this: at $499, this program may very well be the best bargain and best investment you’ll ever make.

To this end, I have created a special offer… our course on how to be a self publisher, our course on how to use the internet and a website in your business  and three bonuses for you.

When Logic is Not Enough

Blaine Watson is a master at Vedic Astrology

Thinking out of the box.

In these times of rapid change, experience and education are not always enough to keep pace.

We must have ways to think beyond the norm… outside the box of logic…  so our information processing and decision making can escape the tyranny of reason.

This is why Merri and I use Vedic Astrology as a way to go beyond our immediate imagination and to see life’s potential in different ways.

Blaine Watson

Blaine Watson teaching a Beyond Logic course.

This is because the future is always ambiguous… even if we think not! As technology puts booster rockets on economic and cultural evolution, it can be another pressure on us.  Our lives can take many numbers of paths that lead in different directions… at any time.

This leaves us asking, “What SHOULD we do?”

Astrology is an ancient science that allows us to open windows of information that create a set of out-of-the-box rules that direct us in ways we would never logically reach.

Because this process is fun and without threat… we can see future opportunity in numerous expanded ways.

Where mystery, science and market movements meet.

Those who can answer this intriguing question probably understand the quantum aspects of existence. Quantum mechanics is the part of science that tells us that our world is not anything like we expect or can even imagine. The quantum state is the world where our intention turns energy into matter. At the quantum level, everything comes from nothing. The present, future and past are one. Atoms spin up and down at the same time but when observed, choose a direction to spin depending on the universe we are in.

In short, our quantum existence is impossible in logic. Yet it is a proven fact.

Quantum science also helps us understand astrology. If our intention can alter the movement of minute particles separated by billions of relative miles, so too can the movement of huge particles that swirl around us impact our lives.

This is why Merri and I have used Vedic astrologers for years. We have found them invaluable when it comes to making decisions about health, wealth and family that we cannot make with just logic.  This ancient knowledge shows us different perspectives.

Rather than try to explain or defend the science of this, let me just share a few ways that Vedic astrology has helped us.

A example took place when our daughter Elle graduated from University in London with a degree in dramatic arts. Her question to Merri and me was: “Should I go for a career in singing or go on and get a teacher’s certificate in Physical Education?” (She was a superb athlete as well as an aspiring singer.)

We all agreed that becoming a singer was a long shot. Teaching was safe. But we knew that her passion was to shoot for the stars. So how would she feel in later life if she didn’t try?

Merri had our Vedic astrologer check her chart. The astrologer knew nothing about Elle but said that two months before we had asked, she had moved into a three year cycle when her best thing would be the performing arts, entertaining, etc. That was enough to convince me. “Go for it”, we encouraged her.

She did and within a week she was picked as a backup singer with a popular English rock group. Her first gig was before 4,000 fans and she met rock stars she idolized. This led her into a performing arts business where today  she is already earning over six figures a year. No one could have predicted the amazing ride she has taken. None of us saw this coming from the risky choice.  Just consider the difference in this life!

Without that reading, we would have felt more inclined to have her take a “safer” route. What a shame that would have been!

All we saw was that there was good potential at this time, and potential is what quantum science is all about. Every second of our hidden universe is composed of infinite potential. But that potential is hidden from our logic. Vedic astrology can help us figure this potential out.

In another case another daughter had finished university and was successfully employed as a fisheries biologist for the Bureau of Land Management. She wanted to go back to school and become a veterinarian. This meant another long hard four-year slog and sacrifice for all. Should she do it? Her chart suggested that this was perfect for her so she tried. Doors opened like magic. She was one of 23 accepted on her first try from over 300 applicants. Financing appeared in unexpected ways and she breezed through the four years. She is now a successful, joyfully happy vet. This was her perfect place. The astrologer saw this and he was right!

The inability to measure the results of astrology used to bother me enormously until years ago I read an article about Aristotle Onassis. He was asked about his use of astrology. His reply was that to be a millionaire, astrology wasn’t really needed, but to become a billionaire, it was essential!

This struck a chord as I lived in Hong Kong and saw the most successful businessmen there (often billionaires) look beyond logic.

To make billions, one has to take enormous risks. Taking such risks require us to see in ways that go beyond our logic, reason and understanding.  To know what to do next, can be a trial by fire or a delightful turn of events.

Merri and I started using Vedic astrology years ago. I do not use it to make day-to-day business decisions. Most things get worked out with logic and thought. But astrology provides an overlay in our business and life, gives us a sense of when to push, when to pull back, when times are ripe and when they not.

Merri and I review our charts once a year with our friend and advisor, Blaine Watson. Blaine has been studying astrology since age nine and practicing Vedic Astrology for 25 years and professionally for 18 years. He received certification from Benares Hindu University in Varanasi, India and has over 7,000 clients in 41 countries.

Here is Blaine Watson and Vaidya Mishra teaching at our farm.

Multi-currency-courses

Blaine has been amazingly correct, incredibly insightful with my and Merri’s charts.

Sometimes I am astounded with little points that are no big deal. For example, last year he said my chart showed that beginning February 27, I would have such strong opportunities in business that people would give me property. I really did not believe this. On February 25 the owner of www.garyscott.com, a site I had troubles with wrenching this site back …(although it was my site, over the years another group had taken it ), I received a note saying he felt he should give it to me! I accepted and he made the transfer on…you guessed it, February 27.

Other times, what my chart says is important because it gives me encouragement. For example a number of years back my chart showed problems with government authorities.

Sure enough a two-year tax audit ensued, beginning almost on the day predicted. However I was told even though this trouble would run for over two years it would bring me money and this suggestion (although I just couldn’t believe it) was right! I received two refunds (I had been overpaying), the first was over $70,000 and one later for $44,000. This amounted to over $114,000. The refund was nice but more importantly the knowledge during the two year process that the potential for the audit to end well was encouraging.

Another year Merri’s chart showed she was in a long period where people would just give her valuable things including land and houses. That knowledge helped us make the decision to buy our farm here, despite the fact it had not been surveyed. The survey turned up 33 acres more than expected. We received this great gift free! Another year my chart suggested I should reduce my equity load. This matched my logical concerns about an inflated stock market. Thus I was 90% in bonds when the US stock market bombed.

I could go on and on with such stories.

Vedic Astrology helps us in many, many ways. First, its overall readings point out the areas that will bring greatest success. For me it’s writing, publishing and communication (surprise-surprise), plus real estate and liquids and gas. Further my annual updates show which of the areas will work best that year and when to push and when to rest.

So I am especially alert to opportunities in these fields. For example though I generally avoid investing in shares, I bought shares in a Singapore company, Hyflux, which is in the business of purifying water in China. I did my logical due diligence before investing in those shares but it was the liquid aspect that first attracted my attention. I am currently also heavily researching investment opportunities in biodiesel (liquid and gas).

Vedic Astrology gives me very exact investing and business knowledge, but deeper still: confidence, clarity and a calmness that come from knowing that all things are in order even when they do not seem to be. This along with prayer, faith and conviction are guides at times when there is no other way to know.

This has been a very deep and personal experience for me, Merri and our family and I am always pleased to recommend Blaine.

He can help you have a detailed description of your chart, how it is laid out, the significations of the planets, the 12 signs, the 12 houses, the 27 nakshatras or as well as an explanation of the planetary cycles (dashas) and transits (gochar).

You learn about your  chart and understand what is influencing you each day.

Seven P Secrets of Self Publishing

When you write, you can work anywhere.

gary-scott-image

Here I am working poolside in the winter, at our Florida farm.

gary scott

Here I am with our hound Ma, working during the summer at our North Carolina farm.

Learn how to earn everywhere, while living anywhere you choose.  I have been able to earn by writing in Hong Kong, England, the Isle of Man, Dominican Republic and Ecuador to name a few of the place I have lived.  Everywhere I have been… too numerous to share here, I have been able to work.

All I need is my laptop.

That’s all you need too… a laptop to be free!

Before computers, a pencil and pad did the job.

Freedom is just one benefit you can gain from writing.

Another benefit is income.   Writing has brought me both our farms, free and clear… plus a lot more.

Another good example of earning potential is my friend Hugh Howey.   He was working for $10 an hour in a book store when he self published his novel Wool, typing in a storage room during his lunch breaks.

Soon he was earning over $100,000 a month on Amazon.com.  This helped secure a six-figure book deal from Simon & Schuster, and an option for film by Ridley Scott, director of Blade Runner and Alien.

That’s what he’s doing now.

Hugh Howey

Sometimes Hugh and I get together at my  farm and play chess (he beats me badly).

Writers like High are great inspirations.

A couple of years ago Hugh  left Florida, and moved to South Africa.  He had a sailing catamaran built for him and now can sail the world while he continues to write.

Hugh explained it like this: And that’s the miracle of working as a writer: I can do it from anywhere and everywhere. The past few years, I’ve done a lot of writing from airplanes and airports while on business trips abroad.  SAND was entirely written overseas while traveling through seven different countries; I think it’s a better story because of those inspirations.  In upcoming years, I may be writing near your home port.

Hugh’s a super star writer and his success could not happen to a more deserving and talented person.  He pours enormous energy into being worthy of his readership.  But you do not have to be a million dollar a year earner or a traveler to benefit from writing.

The good news is… you do not need a huge success to have a rich and fulfilled lifestyle.  Self Publishing can bring you a life that most people only dream of, as a journeyman writer, instead of a super star.

May I hastily add that the path to stardom begins as a journeyman… so the journeyman’s path brings success without stardom… but can also lead to stardom.

What most success stories like Hugh’s rarely explain is the many hours of writing that was devoted before their self published book sales soared.   Hugh, like most writers were journeymen first.  Stardom came later.

Here are sevens secrets that can help you become a journeyman writer.

The secrets are a writer’s armory of tools that allows almost anyone to create successful publications for income, freedom and fulfillment.

Take Merri’s and my publishing business as an example.

Merri and I are not writing stars.  We are journeymen who have for more than 40 years, year in and year out, earned solid income writing and self publishing dozens of publications about multiple subjects.

Some years that income has been more than solid… over a million dollars.  Yet in terms of stardom, we are hardly known.

In a moment you’ll see why that’s fine for us and probably will be for you too.

First some history.

My story allowed Merri and me to work and live from Hong Kong to London to Europe to Eastern Europe, then the Caribbean and then Ecuador… making millions in the process of following our adventures… having fun… while helping a large readership adapt to a rapidly changing world.

That’s what self publishing can bring, profit, adventure and fulfillment, a great feeling of worth and wonder.

Self Publishing has created exactly the lifestyle we desire allowing us to span the world and work with meaning and purpose.

Self Publishing has become a new business art form.

The seven secrets can help you start your own self publishing business now.

Everything in publishing is new and exciting and changing.  Publishing is being recreated by the wonderful power of destructive technology.

Everything is new… except the seven secrets.

Change in the publishing industry is disturbing many.   We love this evolution due to these seven secrets we call the 7Ps.  The 7 Ps are so fundamental to writing and publishing that new technology enhances rather than reduces their power.

The First P is Passion.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it AND create income with self publishing.  This can be your direct ticket to the kind of fulfillment you’ve always wanted.

Whether you want to travel the world or live as a recluse, work 12 hours a day or not work much at all,  you can set your schedule to succeed, if you’re willing to learn these seven secrets.

You can start part-time with any dream, passion, and budget.  Once you’ve created a product, you’ll enjoy the “multiple effect” of producing profits over and over again.

So the question is… What do you love to do?

What’s Your Passion:  An example is that thirty years ago, a client of Merri’s had a passion to help people who were in pain?  He published a series of pamphlets explaining various chiropractic disorders in very simple terms.  For example: “What Is Whiplash?”

The pamphlets contained solid information, but were simple 5″ x 7″ brochures with drawings and explanations. He sold them with a rack to chiropractors, who put them in their offices for patients to read.  These little self-published items sold year in and year out for decades.

There are thousands of ideas of this sort that can lead to big business.  It’s just a matter of defining and then acting on your passion.

Although I can work when I please and go where I wish, for me the most important reason for being a publisher is the satisfaction it brings.

I love the projects I take on, so work doesn’t feel like, well… work.

What do you love?  If you love golf, then you can write and sell publications about golf.  Love travel, fishing, dogs, dolls, or art?  Write and sell publications in these fields.

Are you concerned about crime, war, poverty or environmental issues?  You can publish information products that help reduce these concerns.

Would you like to help the world be a more spiritual place?  Publish a newsletter, write a book (or hire someone to write it for you), record a tape… publish something that enlightens people.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it and earn income by publishing for ereaders, print on demand, CDs, lists, bound books, or any format you choose.

Be immersed in your passion and get paid well for it.

This is why stardom is not the main goal for most writers and self publishers.  Extra income, more freedom and fulfillment are usually more than enough enough.

The seven Ps are:

#1: Passion

#2: Problem

#3: Person

#4: Profitably Priced Product

#5: Prospecting Pathway

#6: Promise

#7: Presentation

The first time I exposed others to the secrets in Self Publishing was in a weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.  We offered the camp for $1,500. 80 delegates enrolled.  People from all walks of life attended—chiropractors, businessmen, investors, doctors, realtors, inventors, airline pilots, engineers, and housewives.

Merri and I were so overwhelmed by the response, we decided to make it available to a larger audience.  We created a written course based on our current self publishing activity called “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher.”  Then we recorded the weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.

Thousands have used the course as it has evolved over the decades.

You can receive both the written course and the recorded weekend seminar, in an MP3 file, in a special “Live Well and Free Anywhere” program I am making available to you.  The normal fee is $299 for the written course and $299 for the recorded workshop.   I’ll send you both the course and the recorded workshop and my course “International Business Made EZ (also $299) all for $299.  You save $598.

We are so confident that you’ll gain from this offer that if you are not fully satisfied, simply email us within 60 days for a full refund .

These courses are not theoretical.  They describe, step-by-step, how Merri and I built a million-dollar international business and how we are running this self publishing business right now.   We use the 7Ps today just as we did four decades ago to create a strong annual income.

This correspondence course is for those who would like their own international self publishing micro business for fun and profit. If you want fun, freedom, extra income and fulfillment with your own full or part time writing or want to build your existing business, by writing to sell you can profit from this course.  The course can help who want their own business or who want to have a business together or a family business.  This is the perfect course for those who can no longer find employment, who are looking for ways to earn abroad and who wish to retire and supplement their income.

Whether you are retired, an investor, chiropractor, doctor, dentist, professional or already own your own business, this offers another way to make money, to turn your passion into profit. We guarantee that we have shared all we know to help you start and run your own international business.  Enjoy and live a life of following your Passion to Profit… through writing.

Here is a special offer.

We provide two emailed courses  “Self Fulfilled – How to Write to Sell and be a Self Publisher” and “International Business Made EZ”.

We include the “Self Fulfilled Writing and Self Publishing Course” because there are two reasons to write, when you have something to say or when you have something to sell.  In this day and age many of us want to do both, make a statement that makes the world a better place and earn something extra in the process.

Whatever your passion, however you do business, chances are you’ll be writing either to create a product or to sell a product.

You save more than $598 because you also receive a recorded webinar conducted by our webmaster David Cross (at no extra cost).

Spotting Trends With Quantum Thinking

Here is how to spot trends with quantum thinking.

Winston Churchill is quoted as saying: It is always wise to look ahead, but difficult to look further than you can see.

One way to look further than we can see is through an understanding of cycles.  When we know where something is in its cycle, we can accurately predict what it is likely to do.

All of life… every event… the fauna and flora, even the universe flows in cycles.  When we understand and tune into cycles we begin to spot trends that will help us achieve greater happiness… better health… more success.

To entrain with cycles we often have to think outside the box. There is a reason for this. Every cycle has three foundations, birth, inertia and transformation.  Part of every society’s inertia is  an educational system and collective mindset. These have their own momentum and they often stifle or resist new ideas… especially those ideas that may disturb the “norm.”   This means that part of society, resists its own evolution.

This site has reviewed several times how to play games to think outside the box.  A game is a structured activity, with a set of rules. This is important… because when we play… we create a set of rules that is beyond the norm… outside the box of logic…  so our information processing and decision making escape the tyranny of reason.

This message in particular looks at a more scientific (though still fun) approach to getting out of the box… astrology…Vedic Astrology to be exact.

Several recent events in Merri’s and my life illustrate how we actually utilize the knowledge and the charts our astrologer, Blaine Watson, gives us.

We can let our imagination soar so we can see eventualities in enjoyable, non threatening ways.

Astrology goes a step beyond a game because it is founded in deeply imbedded scientific principles.

Let’s look at that science, then we’ll look at the recent events that illustrate how Merri and I successfully use Vedic astrology in our business, investing and the whole of lives.

The first part of the science encompasses our brain and how it stores and processes the information. Our brain is a collection of neurons that store electromagnetic energy that we call  memories and when this storage is stimulated we have feelings and thoughts.

Since our feelings and thoughts are electromagnetic energy, they are influenced by the external electromagnetic sources.

Astrology is based on the position and movement of planets because each planet has its own gravitational force and resonates with  a unique electromagnetic energy.  There is plenty of electromagnetic energy being displaced when a person is born and the position of the planets has a subtle electromagnetic impact.

The influence is subtle – yes. The impact is more subtle than perhaps the color of the room you are born in… less than the skill of the doctor or midwife (or lack thereof) attending the birth… the weather outside… room  temperature, etc… but the influence is there.

Plus in many ways subtle can be more powerful than not-so-subtle.

Subtle is powerful because nothing ever rests.  Everything is rustling in nature’s gentle vibration so everything has a push pull impact on everything else at some subtle level.  For example you’ll see in a moment how one photon can influence a frog’s eye from a distance of 60 trillion miles!

This connection of everything with everything else is really important because it is a driving force in the universe.

All existence in the universe is a swirling mass of energy.  Form is created by density and speed of energy and the vibration of atoms and molecules, along with the impact of environmental forces (everything else).

All matter is vibrating energy as are all emotions and thoughts.  Thus all thought, reason, emotion, will or desire are accompanied by vibratory rates, which may be lowered or raised by external forces… such as the planets.

In the same way that the vibration of a musical note can affect the atoms and molecules in a mirror and cause it to shatter, so it is with planetary resonance.

According to Dr Percy Seymour, a Theoretical Astrophysicist, resonance makes it possible for a radio telescope to tune into specific vibrations in the Andromeda Galaxy (14 million, million, million miles away) and accounts for the Solar System playing a symphony of vibrations on the magnetic field of the Earth.  If so, then even small fluctuating forces can have large consequences.   This is the main tenet of astrology, personalities of individuals are related to the state of the Solar System at the time of birth and their feelings and thoughts are influenced by the motion and position of the planets.

There is a resonance from the tugs of the tide.  There is a resonance from the hot gases trapped in the magnetic field of the Sun and Earth.  There is resonance in the fluctuations of the Earth’s magnetic field. There is resonance in the reflected sunlight from the moon that waxes and wanes.  All these frequencies have an impact on the electrical activity of the neural network in the brain. Resonance of frequency (harmonics) is the celestial link to the terrestrial form.

Astrology is the study of the harmonics of cosmic periods. Resonant theory (harmonics) is the Holy Grail for astrology.

It also explains why we attract certain events, or people, to us who reflect the state of our consciousness. Thus, when we are angry we are more likely to attract the violence or car accident which we are resonating with. More positively, it is the explanation for miraculous events in that we ‘entrain’ ourselves to good unfolding when our thoughts are constantly kept at the higher vibration, or frequency, of love and happy outcomes.

Dr. Seymour says in his book “The Scientific Basis of Astrology”:  The claims made by many scientists that astrology is opposed to the basic principles of western science comes from a total misunderstanding of serious astrology, and an appalling lapse in their understanding of the methodology, philosophy and history of science itself.

For Merri and me, Vedic Astrology is a way to add scientific foundations that help us to see life in an out-of-the-box way.

Here is how we have integrated the progression in our astrological charts to recent events.

First, looking at health. Until last year Merri and I had a business that was a runaway success.  The emphasis was on runaway.  We traditionally conduct six to eight seminars a year and had been doing a couple of those seminars in Ecuador.   We saw the potential in Ecuador real estate so wanted to help our readers tap into this.   We added a tour director to the staff and upgraded our schedule to over 5o tours a year.   Our tour director quit without notice the day before the first tour so Merri and I were stuck running this schedule.  Yikes!  We became really exhaustively busy.  But there was good news also.  The 2007 recession came along but our business boomed and was extra profitable because our overheads were reduced.

We stressed ourselves physically (with Merri receiving the brunt of the efforts). Then in Merri’s last progression one observation was from mid 2010 to March 14, 2011 “Merri will not be so much in charge of her health”.   Merri’s and my charts are generally harmonious and I had a weaker but similar observation.  This is very very hard because she has rarely had any health problems…not even a cold, never a virus or flu, etc.

We sold that Ecuador tour business and would have for no other reason than we did not want this physical stress during this time when we should be resting more.

Yet there were other reasons.

My chart since last June in a Saturn, Jupiter cycle was especially rampant with observations related to laying of foundations for transformation and expansion in fields of “knowledge related to intelligence, wisdom, higher learning, spiritual, refined, synchronicity, expanded vision of reality and philosophical”.  Other observations included a focus on “knowledge hidden from view, creativity, discovery, invention, publishing and reaching a larger audience”.

Our Ecuador business was booming based on a foundation we began laying 15 years ago. We are pioneers and like to be on the leading edge. This suggested to us that we should be laying new foundations.

Added to that is the observation that this would come in a slow, grinding way and that I would thrive by having challenges.   This led me to feel that it was time prepare to for whatever is next!  We could not reach a larger audience working in the way we were.

We sold our tour business to Jean Marie Butterlin and began preparing to take our Quantum Thinking course activities to their next level.

Then I moved into a Saturn – Jupiter – Sun cycle for only a short time.  Here the observation was that I would gain personal power, a sense of self sufficiency with people in positions of power.  I had no idea what this would mean but was extra alert for opportunities related to gold and for people in positions of power whom I could help and vice versa.

I did not have to wait long.

A friend and long term reader but one I had not heard from in years emailed me on February 26.  He was writing about Ecuador but guess what he had started to do… run a website on… you got it… gold.

I immediately jumped in and asked… “Need any help expanding that site”?

This is where the astrology helps me so much.  There was no logical reason for me to be interested in a website about gold… except I was looking to see if such a thing would appear.

Nice coincidence… right?  This may seem so until I noted that a publisher in a position of quite some power arranged a meeting to finalize  the publishing of one of our new courses.  The publisher set the meeting for… get ready for it, February 26. Something was really clicking on that day.

The publisher’s offer was good. There were a few issues I could have balked on but I did not.  All the observations from my chart suggested that this was the time to move up… not stall.  Plus one other observation about this period is “this time can do no harm to the chart”.  What excellent advice!   I could afford to step up and we concluded the deal which will definitely expand our audience.

In June I shift into a Saturn – Jupiter – Moon cycle that includes more.. publicity more recognition than normal.  Even before June,  one contact has brought me much closer to huge amounts of good exposure from the national level.  I do not know (nor really care) if that contact will bring added recognition or not. The point is I’ll be super sensitive and watch for such an opportunity.

I’ll also beware of any extra expenses as this is a time “when more money may tend to go out than normal”.

Finally August moves into Saturn-Jupiter-Rahu and as Blaine Watson (my Vedic Astrologer) puts it… “Busy… you ain’t seen nothing yet.” Words in this period include: Relentless.  Here are his comments,  “Business rises exponentially but in an unpredictable way, so take one step at a time.   There is an exultation in the house of fame…  foreigners a large part of picture… be cautious of own brilliance (ie do not be a smarty pants)  be careful of illusion. If it comes to you… consider it. If it comes from you… be suspicious.”

Which of these observations will become reality and to what extent, I do not know. Our charts show potential… not fact. The observations do provide one with guidelines  so I can focus in areas I might otherwise not see.  They gives me clues about when and in what areas to plunge ahead or pull back.  They give extra ideas about when to be bold… quiet… restful… humble and when to get ready for a lot of activity.

Right now… Merri and I are writing… writing and writing as we rest. The time ahead looks busy in the filed of communications and our written words are those that could gain a larger audience faster and easier than in any other way.

For over 20 years, Vedic Astrology has been an extremely important way we integrate potential with past.  This science has helped us reinforce the limitations of logic with a stronger field of knowledge.

This is why I encourage Blaine to conducts course on Vedic Astrology and why Merri and I are pleased to host one of his courses in Mt. Dora this upcoming  April 9 and 10.  Hope to see you here!

Gary

Here is a rave about one of Blaine’s previous courses.

Hi Gary & Merri.  Just wanted to write and thank you for such a fun, interesting and exciting time.  From the moment we got there, till we left, we were treated so kindly, and there was never any stress.  Being with you, your staff and the other guests – it felt like a family reunion; like one big family.  The staff were every present, earnest and helpful, and always a friendly word.

The Vedic Astrology course was beyond anything we expected.  PhD Astrologer, Blaine Watson (what an inspired guy!) had a great presentation and took time to address some individuals questions on the particulars of their charts – which was insightful and amazing.  I am so looking forward to have my one-on-one reading on the phone.

We had a blast and we thank you and your staff for all your efforts.

Join us with Blaine Watson in Mt. Dora Florida, April 9 and 10, 2011.
