Seven Ps

In complex times we need simple paths that lead us to simply spot value such as the seven Ps.

At our Super Thinking + Investing and Business seminars we examine ways to find good investments and…

how to market through the 7Ps.

Super Thinking + Investing and Business Seminar

During these seminars we are asked questions similar to this one a reader recently sent.

Gary, You have used this same paragraph several times before in marketing your teachings and the following particular paragraph always stumps me:

“The seminar shares how we use the first four of “Seven Ps”  (Person, Problem and Promise, Product) to zero in on key word phrases.  Then you learn how to use the Fifth P Promise to develop new customers. The Sixth P is the Prospecting Path and Seventh P is the Presentation to create income.”

My question:  What is the 6th P?

You show: #1) Passion #2) Person,  # 3) Problem,  #4) Profitably Priced Product,
#5)  Prospecting Path  # 6) Promise #7) Presentation.

Here is my reply: The Promise is the headline that captures your prospects’ attention and hints of your “unique beneficial proposition”.

Take our Ecuador Living Pay Per Click campaign as an example.

If you Google many phrases such as “Ecuador Living”,  you can see our paid ad with the headline “Retire Cheaply in Ecuador”  That is our Promise. If one clicks on that ad he will link to our landing page which gives our presentation.

PPC ad

The seven Ps in this business path are:

Passion – Ecuador
Problem – Expensive cost of living in Canada and USA
Person – Those who want to be comfortable in retirement
Prospecting Path – Search Engines
Profitably Price Product – Our Ecuador Living Club
Promise – Retire Cheaply
Presentation – Landing page that offers free handbook.

Whether you are an investor or looking to create your own micro business… looking at the 7Ps shows the core of a business… how it serves… who it serves and how it creates profit for all.    This is a simple way to look for value in business and investing.

What Should I Sell in my Online Business?

Why not add an online business?

That was my thought in 1997 when I met with David Cross in Copenhagen.

Our website originally was expected to be an extension of our print publishing business.

Little did I know then that it would become the entire business.

David was a meditation teacher in Edinburgh, Scotland who taught our son, Jake, the art of meditating when Jake was at university there.  We first met David in Edinburgh, and after talking he ordered our “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher” course then in print… (now online).  He studied this and published his own report.   One reader of the report had a new internet server business and was so impressed that he hired David to work for him in Sweden.  In the process of rising to become the managing director of that firm… David started our website (and is still our webmaster as well as business partner now).  During one business meeting in London, David met our daughter Cinda. ‘Love at First Sight.”

David also met executives of International Living and went on to become Chief Internet Consultant for Agora Inc. one of the largest online marketing companies in the world.

David has since built an unparalleled, hands-on marketing experience that spans 25 years in 22 countries for companies and charities large and small. He’s guided many businesses and individuals to success in their business and helped them achieve their marketing goals, both online and offline.

As Senior Internet Consultant to Agora Inc. in Baltimore, MD, David worked closely with Agora’s publishers and marketers and over an 8-year period and helped to propel Agora’s online revenues to over $300 Million in 2009.

Myles Norin, the CEO of Agoras wrote: “I have found David’s knowledge and experience unmatched in the industry. Without David’s expertise and guidance for the past 7 years, we would not be nearly as successful as we are.”

David hails from England and now lives on a small farm close to Mount Hood in Oregon with our daughter, a veterinarian, their five children and a menagerie of animals. When not marketing or brainstorming you’ll find David following a dream of self-sufficiency for food, power and water within 10 years, tending the land and caring for the farm and animals.  David is also an engaging and knowledgeable speaker with many amusing anecdotes from his work and travels over the years.

Not surprisingly, our efforts with David have intensified over the years so he is developing an updated internet business course for readers (to launch this spring). Here is his newest report.

What Should I Sell in my Online Business?

By David Cross

One of the shortest legitimate routes to increase your income is to start your own business and in my opinion, an Internet-based business is a great way to do that. You can start an Internet-based business anytime, anywhere and with very little up-front risk or investment. But knowing how to get started can seem confusing – even overwhelming – and this feeling alone may be enough to put you off even starting. At this stage many people put their ideas back on their mental shelf and continue with their life as it was before the idea to start a business first popped into their head.

I am currently working on a new course that we will publish this spring. This is a practical, hands-on guide and series of lessons to help you create your own online business in 1 month (in reality you could start it all in 1 week). The course guides you through all you need to get started including marketing your product or idea, setting up your website, shopping cart and payment processing, social media…everything you need. In fact I’ve designed it to be almost as good as having me sat at your side to guide you through everything.

One of the most common questions I am asked about starting an online business is, “Yes, but what would I sell?” You may have given some thought to this question and decided to look for a company with products that you can sell at a commission through an affiliate program or as part of an multilevel marketing system. That is definitely one way to get started or to add additional products to your inventory of things to sell.

When starting a business (online of offline) and looking for the type of product or service to sell, people often look in a new area…something that appears interesting or cool. It may be something you’ve always wanted to try your hand at or it could be a hobby you are enthusiastic about. It may be something you’ve seen others succeed at or a dream you’ve always had. For example, you may love great food and have a burning desire to open a restaurant serving that type of food.

One Step at a Time

Although many people look to start a business in a completely new area, you will generally have a faster track to success in your new business doing something that you already know about and ideally, the business you start should be no more than 1 step removed from what you already know.

Let’s assume you are a small business accountant. You help businesses prepare their taxes and you advise and counsel them on ways to maximize profits and reduce their tax liabilities. You notice that you have a lot of clients who run restaurants. As you are an enthusiastic cook and have a good palate for fine food and wine, when deciding what business to start you may find yourself contemplating starting a restaurant. After all, you’re a good cook and you’ve many clients in the restaurant business already so, why not you? But your experience is not in running a restaurant and it’s quite a stretch from advising restaurant owners on how best to structure their taxes to actually running a restaurant yourself.

If you instead decided to publish a guide for restaurateurs on tax saving tips then you’d be focusing within a proven niche. You could then expand this series into small business tax guides for other types of businesses – hair salons, health clinics, car mechanics and printers…all local businesses and all wanting to find ways to reduce their tax liabilities.

But suppose you think that you have no area of expertise? People often say they have no specialist skill, maybe they’ve worked for 25 years in the same business or have raised a family and say, “Who’d buy that?!” You gain a lot of skills in 25 years of any job and if you’ve successfully raised a family you’ve years of skills of balancing many plates on many sticks. There are many young parents who would love to benefit from your experience.

And in addition to the time spent working and raising your family, what hobbies do you have where you have gained specialist skills? Are you a good gardener? Are you artistic? Do you have particularly good handwriting? Is that a skill you could pass on? Would someone pay you for that knowledge? Heck, I’ve always wished I had remotely legible handwriting, let alone “good” handwriting! (my wife to this day loves the little notes and letters I give here and still says, “What does that word say?!”)

The skills and unique knowledge you have to share need only to be connected to people who have a need and you can sell the knowledge and skills you already possess. It’s marketing that connects buyers with needs to sellers with a way of fulfilling that need.

Narrowing it Down

To help narrow-down what you could sell online, start a list of things you are good at, skills you have, hobbies, interests you have, jobs or career paths you’ve pursued and any ideas you may have for a business – even if it’s not in one of these areas. My list off the top of my head may look something like this:

  • Chef/Cooking
  • Marketing
  • Self-sufficiency/small-scale organic farming
  • Global traveler
  • Voiceover
  • Meditation Teacher
  • Public Relations
  • Fundraising
  • Public Speaking
  • Internet business
  • Open a restaurant
  • Start a rock band
  • Podcast
  • TV show host

Your list may contain some or none of these items but make your list and then add a second column, which we’ll call “Rating”. Into this rate on a scale of 1-10 your level of expertise in each area. Add a third column called “Valuable?” and rate whether that skill is valuable…something someone would buy. In this case “Skill” also means knowledge and career experience. Remember that if someone has a need for that skill, knowledge or information and if it can help save them time, make money or improve their life then you can note down its value in the Valuable column.

Add two more columns; “Hobby” and “Fantasy”. Is this a hobby – something you love doing even if you’ve never made any money from it and the final column, “Fantasy”. This is a check for dreaming versus doing. For example in my list I’ve got “Start a rock band”. Whenever we sit down with friends for pizza and beer we’ll always delve into our extensive music collection, play our favorite songs and then come up with band names and sketch our world tours. It’s fun, but ultimately it’s really a mental fantasy. I love music but realistically I’m probably best off not starting a rock band. I am going to add “Open a restaurant” into the “Fantasy” column, too. This is not designed to quash your dreams, simply help hone what has a real possibility of becoming a business for you versus something you love playing at. (I imagine if Gary Scott drew up this list he’d put playing the flute and painting into the “Fantasy” column).

You will end up with a list something like this:

skills-list

I used a spreadsheet for this but a napkin works fine. Spend more time on getting the ideas down rather than worrying about how it looks. I’ve sorted my list so that the areas in which I am most skilled, valuable, non-fantasy items are at the top. The ones at the top in which you are most skilled, that are valuable and aren’t a pure hobby/fantasy are the areas that may be good to start developing your business in.

Your list will differ. And what I may put in my hobby/fantasy column you may put in your top skill level and with a high Valuable rating. Your list will differ and you will be able to rate your skills and ability to profit Also a note about hobbies. It’s possible that you’ve a high skill level in one of your hobbies and that could be profitable for you. And if you are an accomplished artist with a bluegrass band please don’t think the idea of this list is to poo-poo artist pursuits; it’s not. The idea of this list is to help you home-in on the skills, knowledge and experience you have that you could market.

Save your list. In the next article we’ll discuss more about what to do with this list to take the next step in profiting from your knowledge, skills and experience. One way to profit from your unique skillset is through writing about it and self-publishing. Here, Gary shares with us details of a forthcoming course this summer…

High Society Micro Business

There is a new form of high society created by certain types of micro businesses.

High society used to be defined as an upper class, group of people at the top of a social hierarchy or  socialites, people of social prominence, who spend significant resources entertaining and being entertained.

This is no longer high society.  Not to me.

I have been in Quito speaking at International Living’s Ultimate Event and was pleased to see so many expats who have created businesses that do more than just try to make a buck.  Many are concerned with the environment… humanity… education…. peace.

These people and their businesses to me are high society… those who have high expectations for helping society.  Those who create positive micro businesses that help the environment and humanity.

ecuador-exports

Here is Merri and me speaking about how to use business to help the poor.

Merri and I believe profoundly in the importance of improving the world through business. Merri over 30 years ago used to export products made by the lepers at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti and then helped orphanages in Mexico create and sell Papier Mache articles though Lilly Pulitzer outlets.   More recently we have donated the hotel Meson de las Flores (now Inn Land of the Sun) to help build the economy in Cotacachi.

Plus we regularly promote at no charge Purely Green a bio degradable non-mutagenic cleaner.

We are delighted to see more and more micro businesses moving this way.

Excerpts from an article in the American Express OPEN website entitled “3 Ways Small Businesses are Investing in Social Good” by Alexander Hotz shows three examples of how small businesses are investing in social good to partner with non-profits, raise funds and finance micro-loans.

1. Catherine Zadeh: Partnering with Non-Profits

ecuador-micro-business

In 2008, high-end jewelry designer Catherine Zadeh learned that a childhood friend had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. To raise money and awareness, Zadeh fashioned a bracelet, which to her surprise raised over $60,000 for the family of her friend. Emboldened by the success of her first fundraiser, Zadeh steadily expanded her charitable work. Today she produces bracelets for 18 charities and for every piece the charity sells, Zadeh donates 30 percent of the proceeds to that charity.

2. Busam Automotive: Raising Funds Creatively

ecuador-micro-business

With so many businesses now using Facebook and Twitter, setting your company apart online has become more difficult. This was the predicament facing Busam Automotive, a Cincinnati auto dealership that sponsors an annual campaign for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a foundation that promotes breast cancer research.

“When we began to plan the fundraiser we thought: how can we take this kinda boring run of the mill sponsorship and make it kinda cool and different,” said Busam Business Development Manager Andrew Shipp. The solution: creative social media tactics.

For every retweeted picture of a Busam vehicle (like this one), Busam pledged to donate $1 to the foundation. In addition, the dealership promised $10 off on an oil change and a free ticket to a charity fashion show for anyone who checked into Busam’s Nissan branch on Foursquare.

3. SRSCI: Promoting a Company Philosophy

ecuador-micro-business

Jorge Fonseca Mata of the Finca Fonseca coffee farm, the largest coffee plantation in San Rafael, Costa Rica

For some small businesses, like the San Rafael Sustainable Coffee Initiative (SRSCI), social good is built into the DNA of the company. The SRSCI, a joint venture between Costa Rican coffee farmers and processing plants in the small community of San Rafael, uses micro-loans to grow the local economy while connecting growers with drinkers. The big idea behind the SRSCI is to cut out the middlemen. If customers order directly from farmers, farmers maximize their profit, thereby growing the local economy. The SRSCI also encourages (but does not require) customers to invest in a micro-loan to fund the next year’s crop.

Social Tools to Consider

While Twitter, Facebook and (to a lesser extent) Foursquare are omnipresent, there are other lesser known online tools that small businesses can use to promote social good. Below are three in no particular order.

Bolder is a platform that works with businesses interested in inspiring individuals to do what’s best for society. On Bolder’s website, businesses challenge individuals to do things like ditch bottled water for a day or bike to work. In exchange the business provides an incentive, which is usually a discount or freebie.

For the particularly activist-minded business, Act.ly is a new platform for starting an online petition via Twitter. Individuals or businesses can tweet at someone requesting that they act on an issue. The initial request appears as a tweet and its success depends on subsequent retweets.

I Shop 4 Microfinance makes it easy for online customers to donate to micro-finance foundations. Customers simply have to sign up and then shop. Four percent of all purchases are donated and, best of all, there’s no additional cost to the customer.

Everyone has to pay their bills and profit must be a part of business. Yet at the end of the day most of us feel better… more satisfied… fulfilled… if we at the end of the day have accomplished more than serve our clients and made a buck or two.

Become part of the real high society.  Create a micro business… gain everlasting wealth in more than just financial ways.

Learn Spanish in Three Days

Learn Spanish in Three Days ONLINE

The “Learn Spanish in Three Day Course” is now available online.

Read below to see why we are offering our Super Spanish course online for the first time.

Speaking Spanish is a huge benefit on its own.  You can become one of the rare North Americans who can get along in Spanish speaking countries.  You can be one of the special people who can communicate with 10 million non-English speakers in the USA.  Spanish is the second most used language in the USA.  There are more Spanish speakers than speakers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Hawaiian, and the Native American languages combined.  According to the Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language of nearly 50 million people in the US.  This is the largest Spanish-speaking community outside of Mexico. Only half of these speakers also speak English “very well,” and 19% do not speak Spanish at all.

You can tap into all this potential when you speak Spanish.  Yet there are more benefits.

An article in England’s leading newspaper, the Telegraph, entitled “Why learn a foreign language? Benefits of bilingualism” (1) sum up the biggest benefit of learning a second language and increased intelligence.  The article says: “Learning a foreign language is more than just a boost to your CV or handy for traveling.  It will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English.  Physiological studies have found that speaking two or more languages is a great asset to the cognitive process.  The brains of bilingual people operate differently than single language speakers, and these differences offer several mental benefits.”

The article then explains studies that show seven cognitive advantages gained from learning a foreign language.

#1:  You become smarter
#2:  You build multitasking skills
#3:  You stave off Alzheimer’s and dementia
#4:  Your memory improves
#5:  You become more perceptive
#6:  Your decision-making skills improve
#7:  You improve your English

Does it sound impossible to learn Spanish in three days?  Yes, it is impossible when you try to learn Spanish in the old, traditional way.

Though you may choose to take more time using this course to learn Spanish, thousands of our readers have learned at our Spanish courses.

There is a scientific method of learning… proven and described in numerous best selling books that create educational jumps by making education natural, easy and fun.   This course works because it is education without stress!

This method was created and refined by the Bulgarian educational master, Georgi Lozanov, who transformed the entire Soviet educational system to such a degree that this third world country beat the USA into space.

Merri was lucky to be one of a handful of students outside of Bulgaria who were allowed to be taught this system in the early 70s.  She practiced this unique and remarkable form of education for  four decades. It was a delight!

Merri and I began integrating these techniques with other shamanic and educational tactics we had gained in our global travels and then applied them to teach Spanish in three days.

The course has been proven again and again by the thousands who have used this system.  You can read a few of the many raves we have received from delegates who have learned from the Super Thinking Spanish course we created.

Here are a few quotes from delegates of the course.

One delegate from St. Louis wrote:  Hi Gary,  Just ended forty-five years in dentistry last week, and I’m on to a new career.  What is my new career?  Still formulating, but the eye -opening,mind expanding Super-Spanish course last weekend in St. Louis surely shows me the opportunity exists to expand my horizons.

Besides having a lot of nice people to learn our new language; the methods Merri and you developed proved to be just what you said they would be.  We all and I in particular relaxed our way to new learning.  I feel so very comfortable with the basis of my new language skills that I know I will be spitting out great Spanish sentences by the time I reach Ecuador in October.  Last year I spent six weeks in Ecuador and now I plan on conversing with the people.

Today’s excerpt of your newsletter really hit home. You do what you say you will. There are no surprises or hidden sales tricks. The only tricks are beneficial to our learning.  Thank you for a wonderful experience that I was quite unable to grasp how you would pull it off.  You did, however, and I look forward to other courses that you offer, and I have absolutely no doubt they also will work beneficially.  Best regards, Denis Molloy.

Another wrote about the Super Spanish course:   Buenos Dias, here is a testimonial for Super Thinking-Super Spanish.  Please feel free to use all or part in promotions for the course.  In addition, you may give my email address to any prospect “on the fence” about enrolling.  Yesterday, in Cotacachi, Ecuador, I finished Super Spanish.  I had high expectations for the course and they were exceeded.

After three days, I can speak Spanish in complete sentences. In simple conversations, such as buying groceries or ordering a meal, I can make myself understood. I think that’s incredible!

Although I am far from the competence level of a native speaker, I feel I’ve taken a giant step forward in learning Spanish so that I can experience the people and culture of Ecuador.  The foregoing benefits would have more than justified the time and money I invested in Super Spanish.  And learning some Spanish was not the most important benefit I got from the course.

Prior to leaving the USA, I had felt for some time that the pace of life there was unhealthy for me (and for most people) and I did nothing about it.

I’ve thought about the pace issue during the course.  One of the key elements Merri Scott designed into Super Spanish is placing the student in the optimal state for learning.  In class, the past three days, I’ve been re-introduced to guided journeys and introduced to the calming effects of Baroque music (www.sundaybaroque.org).  What a blessing! I’m inclined to make one or both a daily part of my life.   Rob Christi.  Cotacachi, Ecuador

Another attendee from a course wrote:   “I took this incredible class a few weeks ago, and I would like to tell anyone that is interested, that it is an amazing three days of learning with lots of laughs included. You leave everyday wanting to learn more and are so excited to do so.

“Other Spanish classes and tutoring made us feel like it would take forever to get to the point where we could put it into practice, but this method gave us a more fluent use for everyday life almost immediately AND the confidence to use it.  It is a fantastic way to show people how much they know and give confidence to learn and use Spanish creating a momentum.

“They made learning Spanish easy and fun in a very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.  I would definitely recommend this course.  Even if you know some Spanish, this helps make it easier because of the less stress that no verb conjugations gives you.  This gives you more confidence in yourself to try and speak it more.

“The stress free atmosphere and tons of interaction and participation were very conducive to learning.  The relaxation techniques alone are worth the price.  The fact that I can now feel more comfortable conversing in Spanish with my new friends and neighbors is priceless.  Muchas, muchas gracias.”

“I loved the relaxed environment.  I picked up quite a lot of new vocabulary.  I found this course very informative about how the language works, how I can make sentences and understand others better!  Muchas Gracias!  I had a call from Telcel (the local phone company) after our second class and I was able to speak and understand them for the first time. Despacio (meaning slowly) … a great word!  Everyone should take this course before they pick up bad habits.”

“I liked how simply the course was organized and the positive attitude about learning.  Thank you so much for helping me to learn Spanish!”

“I liked the laid back yet professional approach.  I highly recommend this new, relaxing method of learning Spanish,  I feel a lot more confident in the delivery of my words and sentences. It was taught in an excellent and very professional way.

“It was a very enjoyable class.”

How The Course Works

The first tactic is to use Baroque music in the learning process.  At least three best selling books, “Superlearning”, the “Mozart Effect” and “Superlearning 2000” have revealed insights about how to learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian educational master, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.  Merri Scott was among just a few who learned directly from Lozanov.

The second tactic uses 17 unique lessons to provide Spanish fluency in a short time.   Let me prove to you how this tactic works by teaching you hundreds of Spanish words in less than 30 seconds.

Here is the proof.

“Most words in English that end in ION are almost identical, just pronounced differently.  For example action is accion, education-educacion, manipulation- manipulacion, etc.”

There you have it.  How long did it take you to read the sentence?  You now know hundreds of Spanish words that you will never forget.

See examples of the words you already know below.

How long would have taken you to memorize all those words?  How soon would you have forgotten them?

This is just one of seventeen Spanish lessons in the course.

The next lesson teaches how to pronounce each of the nouns.

Then, the third lesson teaches almost as many verbs, almost as quickly.

The fourth lesson shows how to avoid conjugating verbs by sticking with the infinitive (far easier than it sounds).  This simple lesson leaves a person sounding like a Spanish professor without ever conjugating a verb.

Lesson five shows how to sound infinitely polite and yet get almost anything desired in Spanish.

Lesson six gives valuable connectors and the seventh lesson triples the Spanish capacity with three words for “yesterday,” “now” and “tomorrow”.

By the end of three days you feel comfortable speaking Spanish.

Plus the system is Impro-Dynamic.  This means your Spanish keeps getting better even though you do not seem to be studying… practicing… or speaking Spanish.

I was amazed by this as I traveled back and forth from the USA to Ecuador.  The longer I was away from Ecuador… the better my Spanish became.  My second language was automatically improving The self improving feature comes because you learn to create Spanish sentences rather than remember them.  The portion of the brain that creates is more powerful than the portion that recalls.  When your mind creates something… it owns it!  You do not have to remember .

During the course you learn 4005 Spanish words that you already know .

You then learn how to create Spanish sentences from these words.

Throughout the course you learn how to pronounce the sentences you create.

When the course ends… the mind keeps working… and creating… so next time you begin to speak Spanish you’ll be surprised .  You improve even though you have not actively worked on your lingual skill.

Due to the difficulty of getting groups together to learn this valuable technique, we created an online program for subscribers to use the Super Spanish course at home.   This is available at the highly reduced price of $79.

I’ll be in touch personally via email with each person who signs up for this course to see how it works or what is required to make it better.  Once this test is complete, we plan to offer the program on a larger scale and at a much higher price.

The ONLINE course has our, full satisfaction or money back, guarantee.  Try Super Spanish for 60 days.  If not fully satisfied, simply let us know for a full refund.

Maggie wrote: It didn’t really seem possible that we would be speaking and understanding Spanish in only 3 days but the course made it happen in a very supportive learning environment.  I would highly recommend this course for anyone wishing to learn “practical Spanish”.  The teaching methods, use of relaxation, the use of native Spanish speakers for pronunciation and the teachers themselves who were approachable and helpful and always positive made this a very valuable class.

This course improved my self confidence in my ability to learn and retain a language.  It was presented with genuine enthusiasm, great energy and the style of learning is very effective. Gracias!  It was a great experience.

Nadine wrote: “Just spent the last 3 days in the most wonderful learning environment learning Spanish.  What an amazing learning experience!!  First day out of class and I could not stop thinking in Spanish WOW!!  I am amazed by how much I learned, retained and how much more is showing up now that I am out of class.  And the best part is THERE WAS NO STUDYING!! Indeed this is Super Thinking!!!  I would highly recommend this to anyone that has ever had a desire to learn another language or learn anything in record time.

And a few days after that ….  As I went through my day, just hanging out with my son, I could see myself starting to think in Spanish.  At first I thought it was amusing but as it continued and increased I thought “My goodness this is really remarkable amazing” It was really an effortless unfolding.  I wasn’t at any point “trying” to think in Spanish, just words I knew would fly across the screen in my mind.  And then this afternoon, my son cuddled up on the couch to watch some cartoons on his ipad and was watching Peppa Pig in Spanish…hmm coincidence?  I think not, I’m radiating Spanish so much that my son is being influenced!  Thanks a million again.  This weekend the best learning experience of my life!!

If you have ever had a desire to learn Spanish this is the way to do it!  By the end of the first day I had more confidence and more practical ability than I had from any previous courses I had taken.  It was fun and relaxed and full of laughter.  You will leave this class excited to use what you have learned.  Rather than leaving overwhelmed with how much you have yet to learn and master, you are equipped with the knowledge and know how to go out and communicate as well as the excitement to do it!”

Gary noted:  “The whole approach is positive and conducive to learning at a level that benefits ALL participants.  It is not intimidating and does not set up a pass/fail atmosphere.  The presenters are terrific and the results unbelievable.  It was relaxed, informal, friendly and effective.”

Twila said:  “This class provided a very refreshing and relaxed way of learning.  The atmosphere felt very safe to say the words you were practicing.  I learned a lot in a way that will make it easy to apply.  Starting with conversation is way more fun.  How quickly you can learn!  It was a great group, great instructors and great stories.

The atmosphere in the classroom was so relaxed that learning Spanish felt like a breeze and not like a painful task.  The relaxation exercises are really conducive to language learning.  We learned A LOT in a short time and it was fun and the environment was non-threatening.”

Brigitte sent this:  “Buenos Dias, Suzanne. su clase de espanol es excelente! Muchas Gracias!
I have already done what you suggested and went into the program listening to the music and going over the lessons.  I know: Repetition……reinforcement…..thinking in the new language….it’s all part of it.  I loved your course and will certainly recommend it to friends.  Who knows….I might feel the urge and have the opportunity to repeat it at your beautiful place in Puerto Aventuras…..Quien sabe? Hasta otro dia y saludos a su familia.”

Marie wrote:  “I would highly recommend this course.  The amount covered in 3 days is amazing!  All with no stress.  The correlation lessons and pronunciation practice has greatly reduced my anxiety to go out and use my Spanish.  I really enjoyed the whole process and thank you for the take away tools.”

Good Micro Business Value Trends

Looking for good micro business value trends can help us be secure… and successful.

Yesterday’s message reviewed  how value should always be sought in all investments. During these times of change and likely inflation, there are five good places to invest… equities, multi currency investments, commodities, real estate and your own micro business.  Creating value in your micro business is important and the internet is one way to gain enormous value in your micro business.

This message shares three tips that can help you have or improve a micro business.

Micro Business Tip #1:  Look for a niche that is under exposed. Look for ideas that are popular… then avoid the pack. Look for opportunities on the fringe of that idea. Reduce competition.

Micro Business Tip #2:  Focus tenaciously on the fringe niche. When you have a niche that is almost popular but with little competition and remain focused on that niche, you can create good value from search engine optimization.

ecuador-valentine-roses

Take our Ecuador rose business as an example.  Flowers are and have always been a big business.  Yet marketing flowers is highly competitive.  Roses also have always been and are big business… but this is also a highly competitive market.   Ecuador roses also have been a big business for decades.  No country grows better roses.

Yet at the fringe are “Ecuador Valentine Roses” and “Ecuador Christmas Roses” and “Ecuador Easter Roses.”  These holidays are known as the big three sales dates for Ecuador roses… by far.   Our Ecuador flower business focuses on these fringe times in our marketing.

Our websites use these holiday phrases… a lot.

This adds value to my efforts.  For example, last Thursday, I wrote about how readers can order Ecuador Valentine’s Roses.

By the next morning our two websites ranked #1, #2 and #3 for the phrases “Ecuador Valentine’s Roses” and “Ecuador Valentine Rose”.

ecuador-valentine-roses

Almost ditto for the phrase Ecuador Valentines… our site ranked #1 and #2.

ecuador-valentine-roses

We gained these good results because we concentrated on the fringe of the phrase “Ecuador Roses”.

That phrase “Ecuador Roses” is very competitive. We could spend a lot of time, effort and money to rank well… and still not get a good position for that phrase.

For the phrase “Ecuador Christmas Roses” seven of the first ten articles ranked at Google are for our web sites.  Google ranks our articles our articles rank #1, #2, #3 for the phrase “Ecuador Easter Roses” not to mention that articles at our websites rank #1,#2,#3,#4,#5,#6, & #7 for the phrase Ecuador Easter lilies.

So during the times when most Ecuador roses are sold… our websites provide our marketing efforts the best value.

Focusing on the fringewe have discovered allows us to even sometimes back into very competitive phrases such as “Ecuador Roses”.

Often we use photos to circumnavigate competition. There is competition in articles and ads for the phrase “Ecuador Roses”… but not so many competitors with photos.

Goggling the phrase “Ecuador Roses” brings the images of Ecuador roses on page one.  That single golden rose right in the middle of those shots is ours… and clicking there leads directly to our site.

ecuador-valentine-roses

We gain many new readers and extra business in this way.  This SES (search engine success) gives leverage to each page we post at our websites. That leverage creates extra value to each page. Each page becomes a powerful marketing tool that can lead new readers our way.

Micro business Tip #3:  Play games so the focus of your business evolves! Finding and focusing on fringe business niches is a great way to start a business. Figuring our how to reinvent the business and evolve is a great way to stay in business.

Evolutionary thinking relies on relaxed concentration.  A combination of logic… intuition… and experience dramatically enhances the chances of continual success. One way to integrate these three assets of logic… intuition and experience in a relaxed and focused way is by listening to baroque music.  Another is meditation.

Studies have shown that listening to certain beats and meditation both increase alpha and theta brain waves as well as slow the heart beat and lower blood pressure.  Meditation tends to create a state of “restful alertness”… certain types of music bring a state of “relaxed concentration”.   Each of these mental states can help your business succeed.

Another way to help a business get started or grow is through play.

Business start ups and evolution are often stalled by resistance to change.   Change is feared because there is always something we do not know.  Hence the old phrase “DANCE WITH THE DEVIL WE KNOW, RATHER THAN THE DEVIL WE DON’T“.  The logic is to stick with someone or something that is known to be bad, rather then risk something new that may be worse.

The faster the change… the worse ignoring it is as a tactic.

If we embrace change, it becomes our friend.  Change opens fields of opportunity and is always there.  We can embrace change, if we can trust our intuition and integrate it with our logic.

The advantages of change have proven themselves in our business experience.  The years that we lived and worked with shamans and wise men in numerous disciplines also revealed the fact that change is wonderful when we make adaptation a regular game.

The Ecuador yatchak we lived with continually showed us ways to embrace change through play.

internet-business-intuition

Here are photos I took during an Ecuador shamanic tour.

FM (Frequency Modulation) Thinking tactics to help our Super Thinking plus Spanish delegates learn how to absorb, retain and recall more information.  FM thinking combines intuition and logic that helps us improve our logic and think beyond logic.

Many Ecuador shamans and shamanas teach the Eagle & Condo Prophesy… a time will come when the eagle and condor fly in the skies together.   Many believe that the eagle represents logic and the condor intuition.  The prophesy says that sharing of indigenous knowledge with the technologies of science will help balance mankind.

One way to blend intuition and thinking is through intellectual play.

A game is play, with a set of rules. This is important… because when we play… we can create rules that are beyond the norm… outside the box of logic…  so our information processing and decision making can escape the tyranny of reason.

Playing is usually undertaken for enjoyment…  but nature is actually very serious about play. Play is nature’s ultimate educational hook. The fact that play is fun is really important.  When we do something fun… without risk…we do it better.  We can let our imagination soar so we can see eventualities in enjoyable, non threatening ways.

Formalized expressions of play allow us to go beyond their immediate imagination and direct physical activity to see life’s potential in different ways.

When games eliminate play… they lose impact… thus the demise of professional sports which are no longer games… but business.

Playing allows us to use disambiguation in resolving future conflicts.  This is because our future is always ambiguous… even if we think not.  Our life can take any number of  paths that lead in different directions… at any time.

This leaves us asking, “What should I do?”

Playing allows us to create a set of out-of-the-box rules that direct us in ways we would never logically reach but can imagine.  Because it is fun and without threat… we can see future opportunity in numerous expanded ways.

Playing reduces the risk of the unknown… eliminating the fear that makes it seem like the devil we do not know.

One way we can use play to get business ideas is by tapping into our deeper brain frequencies.

Here is how to unlock these higher forms of intelligence which we cannot access in lingual form.

Step #1: Write by hand for five or ten minutes everything you can about a business idea.  This connects the the mind body functions.

Step #2: Take a ten minute meditation or sit quietly for 10 minutes listening to Baroque largo music.  Relax and let your mind wander… use innocence… no expectation.

Step #3: At the end of ten minutes write down whatever is on your mind at that time. Write as much about it as you can.

That’s the game. In the thoughts…in the visions that you had at the end of the ten minute meditation or in the quiet listening, there will be an out of the box idea to dwell on… often in graphic form…a picture rather than words.  Dwell easily on this in context of your business.

This tactic was taught to me by a Buddhist Monk and the first time I tried it, the picture I had at the end of my meditation was of pink elephants.   “Man… what’s this got to do with my work?” I thought.

pink-elphants

Pink Elephants… in business?

We are connected… we are a part of infinite intelligence… that is overwhelming in relation to our ability to think… especially in terms as restrictive as language.  The universe terra, terra infinite, bytes of data.  Our logic in comparison as a processor… not even 64K.  So at the least we cannot expect to tap into the universe in English.   Symbols perhaps.

A look at Ted Andrew’s book “Animal Speak  for Symbolic Analysis”  said that the Elephant  is the “Symbol of the Highest True Self.”   This graphic relates to
Ancient Power, Strength and Royalty, Strength of the Feminine: The Child, the Woman,  and the Wise Woman (Matriarchal Head of Family). The Importance of Family, Fertility, Sexual Power, Discrimination, Clouds and Illusion, Out of Control Masculine Rage.

According to the book “Symbol Sourcebook: An Authoritative Guide to International Graphic Symbols” by Henry Dreyfus, the symbolism in the color pink usually serves two purposes.  It can be used to show childish innocence, or a characters child-like personality.  For example, Mami (the girl at the top of the page with the pink hair), very much wants to remain a child.  She gets pleasure out of very simple, and ‘childish’ things.  So, her hair is pink.  Even so, Miho-chan also would like to grow up and become an adult woman… but she’s also afraid of losing her childhood innocence.  It can also be used to show a more flirtatious personality.  Pink is normally a color associated with girls and femininity.  Pink is considered a color of good health and life – we speak of people being “in the pink” or the “freshness” of a newborn babe.

This gave me plenty of input with which to reflect on about business!

Your own micro business can help you enjoy today’s accelerating change. Three ways to improve your existing business or get started is… find a niche on the fringe. Focus on this niche and then let it evolve in a playful way.

The Root of Opportunity

The root of every opportunity is a problem.

I learned this at a really early age.

sales-team

Here is a really old photo of me in Hong Kong with the first sales team I built… circa 1969.   Let me share how this created a huge problem… for me at least, that was the roots of an incredible opportunity.

The bubble of the late 1960s was the US stock market which had risen steadily since the end of WWII. This spawned the concept of the overseas mutual fund which coincided nicely with the very minimal background I had in business.  I had married at a very young age (a whopping 18) which put more than a little pressure on my college student budget.  To keep going to school and support my now growing family, I started selling life insurance for Prudential Insurance.

Prudential did not teach much about investing but it did teach us how to sell, This was handy because it prepared me to do more than  could have imagined.  The overseas mutual fund bubble was built on the export of American sales technology.   The end of WWII saw the emergence of a middle class in America like none that had ever existed before.   This demographic wave had wealth like no other and the desire to reach this wealth refined the technology of marketing including the art of salesmanship ranging from car dealers to fuller brush salesmen to door to door encyclopedia and insurance sales.

When middle class Americans started having enough savings to invest in the stock market, the era of the mutual fund began.

Selling became an art form in the US from the mid 1940s through the 1950s but was unknown in Europe and Japan because these nations were still rebuilding.  Asia and Latin America were yet to emerge… so there had been no huge middle class.

By the mid 1960s  this has changed and a growing middle class stimulated investment, insurance and encyclopedia salesmen to venture abroad.  We were like a virus!  Sales resistance had grown in the US… but overseas… the population was vulnerable to a salesman’s charms.

I did not understand this perspective then.  A businessman I  approached about insurance was starting up an offshore fund. He offered me a job and a huge territory… Asia. I was on my way…. never expecting what was to come.

Business was great. As mentioned this was a bubble and at the top sales are frothy. I was the 8th employee hired by that man and within three years the company had 2,000. They had an IPO at $20 a share. As an early employee I had an option for 50,000 shares at $1… so I was a millionaire… on paper.

Please note, I have underlined those last two words.

As bubbles tend to do… this one burst and before two years were over… the industry collapsed and I was out of a job… with plenty of really angry investors who had invested in Wall Street because “US shares always went up.”  Of course due to my inexperience  I had not exercised my option nor sold a single one of those shares that were no worth… zero.

In short I was 25 or 26 years old… broke… stranded in Hong Kong… divorced and not feeling very good.

That was the problem.

I sat down and thought about this and realized that I was not the only person who was broke. Salesmen… just like me… of real estate… of insurance… of investments… and such in Hong Kong, in Asia and all over the world, were all in the same stew.  So I started a business called the “Merchant Brokers Exchange” that helped these people to exchange products and clients all around the world.

This was not a great idea, but had enough seeds of truth that it led me to write my first book “Passport to International Profit”.  I have been writing and talking the global perspective since.  This privilege to be able to share what I have experienced and learned has been gratifying and profitable beyond my wildest dreams.

Believe me… back then… when that company went bust… I just saw one big problem.  It took many years before I realized what a great opportunity had been handed to me.

Economic corrections over the past few years have created problems for many readers. This fact was on my mind when a friend of many years told me about a new business called “Tworkz”  a business that is focusing on turning unemployment and the weak economy in to an opportunity that helps people earn extra income.

I am not involved financially in any way but believe this may help some readers so am passing this on in the hopes it may help readers who are looking for ways to create extra cash flow.

Here is an overview that the people at Tworkz have sent that I share here with you.

Tworkz Overview

Tworkz.com has been developed to help consumers, who spend the vast majority of their income in local businesses, easy access to current information and pricing on the products and services they use everyday. At the same time, Tworkz will help millions of businesses, especially the small entrepreneurial local businesses that drive the nation’s economy to provide potential customers and clients information on their products and services.

Tworkz.com will serve as a platform to become the principal provider of local information in every market throughout the country. It will connect thousands of local consumers and local businesses like no other site on the Internet.

The financial potential of this site is significant for the positive financial impact the site will have on tens of millions of consumers and millions of local businesses, especially in today’s poor economic climate.

CONSUMER NEEDS

Today more than ever, consumers need to save as much money as possible. Statistics support the fact that the vast majority of every consumer’s income is spent on local products and services. “Local” is the relevant word and even today, there is not a website that maintains current and comprehensive information on the 20,000,000+ local, entrepreneurial businesses that are the backbone of the US economy. Consumers need a website that offers quick, comparative and current information on a wide range of local products, services, sales and pricing. TWORKZ.com has been designed to be “user friendly” and allow consumers to find the best local deals in “real time”, on the products and services they need right now.

Even more relevant today, is the need of tens of millions of consumers to earn money on a part-time or a full-time basis. In the US alone, there are 15,000,000+ people unemployed, over 12,500,000+ underemployed, 80% of college graduates who are unable to find employment in their degree field and millions more who desperately need to earn more money.

One of the principal features of the site is the method that participating consumers qualify to earn money by providing “current” information on local businesses. In this extremely difficult economic environment, the ability for millions of consumers to supplement their incomes will have a major positive impact on consumers and the economy in general.

BUSINESS NEEDS

Now more than ever, businesses of all sizes are struggling to survive. Today especially, every business needs to reach new customers and clients. The 20+ million small entrepreneurial businesses that drive the nations economy are at a disadvantage when competing with their larger competitors for methods to advertise. This has always applied to conventional advertising, (newspapers, radio, TV, magazines etc.) but even now with the Internet, the prevalence of “pay per click” and banner ads, continues to lend far greater advantages to larger businesses.

In recent years, we have seen the Internet become a financial windfall for businesses that market their products or services nationally and/or globally. For the millions of small local businesses however, that make up over 80% of all U.S. Companies, most still do not have an Internet presence other than possibly their name address and phone number. Even those that do have a website, have a difficult time getting their website in front of potential customers and clients as they search for specific products or services. Any standard websites by nature – do not usually provide up to the minute information on sales, deals, pricing and more.

All businesses, large and small, need a fast, easy and inexpensive way to reach local consumers and provide “comprehensive and current information” on their products, services and pricing. And the businesses need to be able to update their information easily and advertise sales, coupons, job openings and more – anytime.

THE SOLUTION

Tworkz will potentially be a “Game Changer” on the Internet. It will provide every business, big or small, instant access to thousands of new local consumers. It will also allow consumers to search local businesses, products and services, as well as the ability to earn money, serious money, on a monthly basis. These features will provide a steady stream of consumers that have a vested and continued interest in the website.

IN SUMMARY

Tworkz has been developed to help millions of consumers, struggling in these touch economic times, save money and make money based on their level of participation on the site. At the same time, Tworkz will help millions of small entrepreneurial business, the backbone of the US economy, compete with their larger competitors for to attract more customers and clients.

It’s a “win, win” situation for all. Consumers can win because they can gain access to the most current information from any business on products, services and special pricing and save money every day. Businesses win because they can immediately post information “live” to consumers and even submit bids to potential customers and clients. And every consumer can win, because they have the potential to earn money by helping us create the most current database of local products and services ever.

Tworkz  invites you to visit its website. Simply click here.

There you have a great opportunity created by today’s economic problems.

Once again, I am not involved in Tworkz and have passed this on as a service. I hope this idea may be of help to you and if you have questions or would like further information simply click Joe Cox’s code (link) below.

Once again, I am not involved in Tworkz and have have passed this overview on as a service. If you have questions or would like further information please go to the link above.

The Power in Sound

There is incredible power in sound.

In fact there is so much power in sound that the power of one sound… Om… is now being researched.

sound-meditation

Photo from Guardian article linked below.

Excerpts from an article in England’s Guardian Newspaper entitled “Improbable research: The repetitive physics of Om” tells us more when it says:

Indian scientists wield sophisticated mathematics to dissect and analyse the traditional meditation chanting sound ‘Om’

Two Indian scientists are wielding sophisticated mathematics to dissect and analyse the traditional meditation chanting sound “Om”. The Om team has published six monographs in academic journals. These plumb certain acoustic subtleties of Om, which these researchers say is “the divine sound”.
Om has many variations. In a study published in the International Journal of Computer Science and Network Security, the researchers explain: “It may be very fast, several cycles per second. Or it may be slower, several seconds for each cycling of [the] Om mantra. Or it might become extremely slow, with the mmmmmm sound continuing in the mind for much longer periods but still pulsing at that slow rate.

The important technical fact is that no matter what form of Om one chants at whatever speed, there is always a basic Omness to it.

Ajay Anil Gurjar and Siddharth A Ladhake published their first OM paper, Time-Frequency Analysis of Chanting Sanskrit Divine Sound “OM”, in 2008 in the International Journal of Computer Science and Network Security.

Ladhake is the principal at Sipna’s College of Engineering and Technology in Amravati, India. Gurjar is an assistant professor in that institution’s department of electronics and telecommunication. Both specialise in electronic signal processing.

They now sub-specialise in analysing the one very special signal.

In the introductory paper, Gurjar and Ladhake explain (in case there is someone unaware of the basics): “Om is a spiritual mantra, outstanding to fetch peace and calm. The entire psychological pressure and worldly thoughts are taken away by the chanting of Om mantra.”

No one has explained the biophysical processes that underlie this fetching of calm and taking away of thoughts. Gurjar and Ladhake’s time-frequency analysis is a tiny step along that hitherto little-taken branch of the path of enlightenment.

They apply a mathematical tool called wavelet transforms to a digital recording of a person chanting “Om”.

Merri and I experience the power of sound… every day…  we enjoy the benefits inherent in music and the sound Om.  This is why we developed our Super Thinking plus Spanish and Quantum Wealth courses… to use this power for greater health, wealth and fulfillment… 300% of life.

The power of music (frequencies in tune with the flow of nature) rests in the fact that music can create order out of chaos.

Yehudi Menuhin expressed the power of music in his book “Theme and Variations” this way: Music creates order out of chaos; for rhythm imposes unanimity upon the divergent, melody imposes continuity of the disjointed, and harmony imposes compatibility upon the incongruous.  Thus a confusion surrenders to order and noise to music, and as we through music attain that greater universal order which rests upon fundamental relationships of geometrical and mathematical proportion, direction is supplied to mere repetitious time, power to the multiplication of elements, and purpose to random association.

Sound… as seemingly as simple as OM… can deliver almost unimaginable power.

Many ancient cultures understood that music embodies within its tones, elements of the celestial order that govern the universe.

As in music, so in life. Audible sound, including music manifests from the most fundamentals vibrations that weave the universal tapestry.

One thread that weaves through this blanket of reality is OM.   Long before Western scientists began investigating music and sound in a scientific way, many wise philosophies and sciences were divined from the primal sound… expanding though mathematical grace to the point where an infinite unbounded intelligence could be glimpsed… and even used via the human form.

The Chinese for example believed that the primal sound is present in all things as a divine frequency.  This one unifying vibration then divides into twelve sub frequencies that could be measured.   This realization created astrology… the study of the Cosmic Tone.

Astrology is based on the twelve tomes… each extending a frequency influence everywhere.   This important mathematical study remains in many aspects of modern life… the twelve months of the year… the twenty four hours a day for example.

Many  ancient beliefs about sound… chants… music… are being restated by studies in numerous fields… quantum physics… medical research (see the studies of neurosurgeon Dr. Karl Pribram) and computer sciences as shown above.

What can the power in music do for us?  First, the power in music can help us be healthier.

Merri and I just returned from extensive physical exams and based on heart, lung and various organ capacities we are both said to be nearly 15 years younger biologically than chronologically.

I do not get very caught up in numbers like this but do believe that Merri’s and my substantial energy, enthusiasm and happiness and the fact that we have not needed an MD… or medication for any type of sickness in over 30 years, has a great deal to do with the fact that  we use music extensively to integrate our mind with our body.

For example just listening to certain baroque music can reduce blood pressure and heart beat.

Second, the power in music can help us be wealthier. Again and again, at times when stock markets seem at their best, I have been able to provide readers with investment warnings because I study market frequencies while listening to musical frequencies.  Using music to integrate brain waves and induce more holistic thought about society, economics and markets helps see through the dangerous noise of daily movement to spot upcoming realities.  This ability to defy the common knowledge… outwit trends… and not be swayed by the herd… so we can spot value creates the energy to generate everlasting wealth.

Third, the power in music can make us more intelligent. Actually a better way to describe this is to say that music helps our logic connect with and use the infinite wisdom that we are and already possess.

There is enormous power in sound and it is available to all of us… almost free. We can use sound and music for better health… increased wealth and fulfillment.   We hope that sounds good to you!

Gary

#B: How to gain Super Thinking abilities, increased intelligence and super thinking into our Super Thinking + Spanish Course for many years but now have added this to our international investing and business seminars to create quantum wealth. This course teaches how to listen to music for more energy, power, intellect better health and everlasting happiness and wealth.

Music helps integrate four categories of brainwaves, ranging from beta waves, the fastest of the four different brainwaves to alpha, theta and the final brainwave state, delta. Delta brainwaves are of the greatest amplitude and slowest frequency.  Deep dreamless sleep takes you down to the lowest frequency.

Merri and I listen to 60 beat, ten cycle classical music as we work.  We allow these waves to interconnect freely so gain unimaginable energy and an intellect that goes beyond ourselves as the music relaxes, enhances and opens our intuition.

The right types of music moves the mind into Alpha and even deeper states of knowing.

Health benefits are gained as blood pressure can drop, heart rates slow and the mind becomes calmed… and you become smarter.  You tap into your higher intelligence and are more likely to have… and  enjoy… success.

Super Thinking plus Spanish looks at how to use super thinking to tap into deeper intelligence and what to do with this intelligence in business, investing and life so you improve the way you absorb, retain, recall information and think forever. To prove the point you learn Spanish in just four days.

“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human nature cannot do without.”

“When music and courtesy are better understood and appreciated, there will be no war.”

We may not be able to end the outside wars.  We can use music to win our inner battles so we reduce stress… live ore happily and succeed regardless of external circumstance.

Ecuador Internet Business – Job Creation Opportuity

Here is a great Ecuador internet business idea that can create a job for you and others as well. Create “notchups”  an idea you could say was raised from the dead.

ecuador-business

Ecuador’s guild system creates an interesting “notchup” opportunity.

Here is why you can cash in with a “notchup” internet business.

Branding is a powerful marketing tool… sometimes good and other times… not.

For example Kellogg’s claim that their  ‘Cocoa Crispies’ cereal can boost a child’s immunity has to be in the all time “Disgusting Brands Hall of Fame.”

However good or bad… in marketing, branding works and one negative form of branding to my way of thinking is via prestige pricing.  Prestige pricing creates products that are so expensive that most consumers cannot afford them.  This is prestige or envy branding.  This type of branding really works.   To give you an example of how well envy branding works, when Forbes magazine released its annual list of top-earning dead celebrities for 2009, the biggest dead earner was fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent who raked in a staggering $350 million after his death last year.

Number two and three by the way were Rodgers and Hammerstein at $235 million and  Michael Jackson earning US$90 million after his death… all leaving the king in the dust. Elvis earned only $55 million.

I suspect that as soon as envy branding began… so to did notchoffs… a CHEAPER look alike product that looks like the expensive brand.

Ecuador-joys

Ecuador has many master weavers.

Yet there are some other bigger more important internal benefits of living in Ecuador or anywhere different around the world.

Ecuador-joys

Ecuador-joys

These Ecuador musical instrument makers are famous around the world.

The great Ecuador Internet Business Idea is to make BETTER look alike products that I call “notchups”.

Teach Ecuadorians how to make high end products and then sell their inventory over the internet, without inventory costs.

This is a nice way to fight back against prestige branding… better for less so the man in the street can afford the product.

Here is how this idea came about.   A Businessweek article by By Douglas MacMillan entitled “Psst! Private-Sale Shopping Sites Are Hot” started the idea.

You can link to the entire article at the end of this message but here is an excerpt from the article: Saddled with unsold merchandise amid the recession, makers of luxury goods are selling their wares through members-only shopping sites.

During last year’s bleak holiday shopping season, fashion designer Lauren Merkin greatly overestimated the number of handbags she’d sell in upscale retail stores such as Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s.

She found a good way to sell them elsewhere without consigning them to a bargain-basement rack that might tarnish the brand in the eyes of would-be customers. All year, she’s been selling the excess goods for half-price on the members-only Web site Gilt Groupe, during 36-hour sales that are hidden from the view of the general public. “What we’re selling is first-rung, but if it sits around at a sale I think the consumer gets the wrong impressions about the product,” Merkin says.

Saddled with overstock from the retail recession, makers of luxury apparel, home furnishings, and other high-end goods are selling their wares at reduced prices through Gilt Groupe and other private shopping sites. Many of these companies help fuel pent-up demand by limiting membership, forcing would-be clients to park on a waiting list or be referred by existing members.

The private-sale model also makes sense for Gilt Groupe and other sites that act as middlemen, because they carry no inventory and earn a wide margin on sales. Combined revenue at Gilt Groupe, Rue La La, and Ideeli, three of the top four players in the U.S., is expected to exceed $300 million this year. That, along with sales at other private-sale sites, makes up a significant portion of the estimated $1 billion a year in online sales of luxury apparel, says Sucharita Malpuru, e-commerce analyst at Forrester Research (FORR).

Enterprising business people can turn their passion into profit and take this idea one step further. They can create products similar to (but often even better) than existing luxury goods, have talented Ecuadorians make them and then sell them online.

For example, this Fendi Zucchino shopping tote in canvas with leather handles and trim, made in Italy is for sale on the internet for $819 bucks. Yikes!

Ecuador-business

Here is an Ecuador craftsman scrapping leaves of the Aguave plant to create…

ecuador-business

fiber to make Shigra bags like this… green… hand made for the wearer.  Maybe $30 retail and they could look better than the Fendi!

Ecuador-Crafts

Here are the keys to make this idea a success.

#1: Be involved in something you really love. This enhances your lifestyle as well as your wealth.

#2: Do not make knockoffs. Make something better…notchups!  Ecuador’s guild system created craft masters who no longer exist in Europe.  You can create handmade products similar to luxury items but are really better and with a better story because the items are hand made.

#3:  Offer experiences not just goods. Offer optional trips so buyers can come and be involved in the creation of their product.

ecuador-business

There are great artists who can do wonderful reproductions like this religious art.

The concept of knockoffs have existed probably since branding began.  However you can create a business selling notchups and knock your competition as you enhance your lifestyle and create extra income.

Green International Investments in a EMP Terrorist Attack

Green international investments can help investors prosper due to the threat of an EMP terrorist attack.

Tuesday’s message at this site saw seven steps that could help us survive and prosper in a new era that could unfold due to a terrorist EMP attack.

Yesterday’s message looked at the importance of securing food in an EMP terrorist attack.

This threat of a terrorist EMP attack could accelerate opportunity in green international investments.

We’ll look at these in a minute… plus some Ecuador real estate plus how the risk of  a energy grid shut down could accelerate green investments.

First… let me reiterate… I do not think the sky is falling.  The sun always shines somewhere and the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.  God…Nature or whatever you wish to call your Higher Being always takes care of us.

May I quote a wonderful passage about this from  John James Ingalls (a Senator from Kansas 1873 to 1891), address in “In Praise of Blue Grass.”

Grass is the forgiveness of nature–her constant benediction.  Fields trampled with battle, saturated with blood, torn with the ruts of cannon, grow green again with grass, and carnage is forgotten.  Streets abandoned by traffic become grass-grown like rural lanes, and are obliterated.  Forests decay, harvests perish, flowers vanish, but grass is immortal.  Beleaguered by the sullen hosts of winter, it withdraws into the impregnable fortress of its subterranean vitality, and emerges upon the first solicitation of Spring.  Sown by the winds, by wandering birds, propagated by the subtle horticulture of the elements which are its ministers and servants, it softens the rude outline of the world.  Its tenacious fibres hold the earth in its place, and prevent its soluble components from washing into the wasting sea.  It invades the solitude of deserts, climbs the inaccessible slopes and forbidding pinnacles of mountains, modifies climates, and determines the history, character, and destiny of nations.  Unobtrusive and patient, it has immortal vigor and aggression.  Banished from the thoroughfare and the field, it bides its time to return, and when vigilance is relaxed, or the dynasty has perished, it silently resumes the throne from which it has been expelled, but which it never abdicates.  It bears no blazonry or bloom to charm the senses with fragrance or splendor, but its homely hue is more enchanting than the lily or the rose.  It yields no fruit in earth or air, and yet should its harvest fail for a single year, famine would depopulate the world.

Our horses here at our Blue Ridge farm really believe this.

international-investing

They are allowed to roam the farm freely except in our front yard.  But once a year, in the autumn, we let them in.

international-investing

They crop and fertilize the lawn. This makes the horses really happy.

They love chomping, lying, rolling and sleeping in the grass.

international-investing

Blaze, the oldest, relaxes so much that when I sent this picture to our grandson Garren, he panicked thinking that Blaze was dead.

international-investing

He’s not. Up he came…

international-investing

On the subject of international investing and grass. I finally received my new Neuton weed eater.

international-investing

This is a neat machine.

international-opportunity

I have been using a Neuton electric lawn mower and when I ordered this weed eater they were 1,500 orders behind!

This shows the demand for green products.

Neuton says at its website: We are dedicated to making the world’s most innovative and dependable battery-powered lawn and garden equipment for people who care about the maintenance of their properties and the health of our environment.  Our forward-thinking designs reduce the noise and pollution of traditional gas power equipment, making yard work more enjoyable. Consistent with these goals, a portion of our profits are donated to community organizations working to clean our air.

Using innovative designs in rechargeable, battery-powered products we¹re developing unique and reliable tools that are easy to use and are easy on the environment. And together with our customers, we¹re redefining the way people care for their properties.

Designed in Vermont

Neuton battery-powered mowers are a reflection of the simplicity, ingenuity and values that define Vermont. At their core, Neuton battery-powered mowers are:

* Hard working – providing high powered cutting capacity with professional results
* Simple – delivering an ease of use and storage you won’t find elsewhere
* Responsible – exhibiting a profound respect for the environment

* A cleaner and more efficient way to mow your lawn. In fact, Forbes magazine recently rated Vermont the number one “Greenest State.”

Neuton and the Environment
Neuton battery-powered mowers are the #1 selling battery-powered mowers on the planet. Our belief in the environmental benefits of Neuton is a strong one. We call it our Clean Air Initiative.

Since we started, we have subsidized the purchase of thousands of Neutons across America in exchange for dirty/gas-guzzling mowers. In Southern California alone, 16,000 residents have replaced their mowers with Neutons. The result has been a staggering emissions reduction of 600 tons per year.

And with Neuton, reducing environmental impact extends even further.  The Noise Pollution Clearinghouse rated Neuton the quietest rotary mower you can buy.

The bottom line is you get big-time results, while leaving behind a small environmental footprint.

Neuton’s success shows the potential for green products.  The threat of an EMP terrorist attack has the potential to accelerate the value of green investments because it could shut down North America’s national energy grid.  Tis may speed up the development and use of individual energy systems.

Neuton is not a public company so we cannot buy shares, but tomorrow’s message looks at how to take advantage of good international green opportunity.

The risk of an EMP attack also accelerates demand for Ecuador real estate.

See for example how this sloping 10 acre corn field with outstanding 360 degree views, offers extra opportunity at Cotacachi real estate tours.

Food in a Terrorist EMP Crisis

Finding food and water could be a problem in a terrorist EMP crisis.

Tuesday’s message at this site saw seven steps that could help us survive and prosper in a new era that could unfold if there would be a terrorist EMP attack.

#1:  Move well away from the USA…. to an agriculturally based country.  This is one reason Merri and I have been active in Ecuador for nearly 15 years.
#2: Move to Small Town USA.  Our sites have been looking at the benefits of this for years and why we live on an agricultural property.
#3: Create your own source of food & water.
#4: Create a local source of hardened energy and communications.
#5: Keep some gold and or silver on hand.
#6: Know how to take care of your own health.
#7:  Hold some assets outside of North America.

We’ll look at some Ecuador food property below.  First, this message looks at some ideas that can help us improve our odds of having access to food and water in a terrorist EMP crisis wherever we are.

May I share three important points up front?

Point #1: I do not think (or maybe hope) that a crisis of serious magnitude will take place in our lifetime.

Point #2: Yet one could… so I try to be somewhat prepared… without jerking my entire life out of joint.

Point #3:  None of the steps that Merri and I have taken below have anything to do with expecting a terrorist crisis.  One cannot foresee all the consequences of a maximum magnitude terrorist crisis. Trying to do so is inefficient… and wastes time. History suggests that humanity always figures out how to avoid the big terrorist crunch… and/or adapts when the terrorists attack.

Merri and I try to live our life down the path we feel we are led… enjoy it… prepare reasonably and then leave the rest in the hands of God.

Let’s look at what we have done about food and water.   Then recognizing that most of mankind does not or cannot live in places as isolated as ours, we’ll look at some more urban alternatives.

Our North Carolina farm can certainly provide all the food and water a family needs.  Many generations who lived here have proved this fact.

Yet it is our love for this life and the people of the Blue Ridge that brought and keeps us here part of each year…. not security from a terrorist attack.

This is a side benefit that this lifestyle provides us with an independent source of food…. domestic and wild.

On the wild side we see…

know-your-food

wild turkeys in our front yard…

know-your-food

often.  This is a normal scene that I photographed. There were 15 turkeys in this flock… all cruising across our front yard.

I expect we could have plenty of venison…

know-your-food

like these deer I photoed in our front yard.  I recently placed my wildlife camera up the hill from the house and…

know-your-food

in a couple days…

know-your-food

had pictures of 20 deer or so including this small forked horn. We saw two big bucks, (a big four point and six point) walking together on a recent walk.

Plus the creek is full of trout.  Here are a couple I stuck on one of our cabins.

know-your-food

We have a pond also…

know-your-food

that helps us on the domestic side, raising fish and ducks that…

know-your-food

grow!

know-your-food

Not to mention our geese.

know-your-food

We never buy eggs because…

know-your-food

our chickens lay more than we can eat and the flock…

know-your-food

grows and…

know-your-food

grows and grows.

know-your-food

We have built a new varmint proof (I hope) pen that…

know-your-food

includes a greenhouse sitting in a sunny spot so the chickens remain warm (and laying) though winter’s cold.

know-your-food

Speaking of the greenhouse, we can grow greens and vegetables though the winter, plus…

know-your-food

we have many apples and acres of blackberries, plus a storage place to keep them with our potatoes… plus

know-your-food

pumpkins and squash and…

funky business

sunflowers grow really well here.  We especially focus on spaghetti squash as it stores through the winter in this potato cellar.

know-your-food

Water.  Our creek starts at the top of our farm with many springs like this.

know-your-food

Water is everywhere… pure… clean, seeping and trickling out of the rocks so by the time it reaches the lower part it is…

know-your-food

this.

If a terrorist attack knocked out all forms of domestic energy, we would not even give up our hot baths since this…

know-your-food

tub is heated by a wood fire.

We have transportation.

now-your-food

and raise fish and grow greens in our back yard.

know-your-food

We were doing all this before Merri and I had a clue about EMPs and the risk of a terrorist attack.

What can one do… if… you do not want to live on a farm?

There are options.

One option is an urban farm. A recent AP article entitled “USDA to Unveil “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food” Initiative” by Ken Meter provides some clues. Here are excerpts from this article.   As I prepare for five days of announcements next week, when USDA plans to unveil its new “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food” initiative, the buzz across my desk is about the potential for urban agriculture.  EPA reminds that brownfield moneys can be used to convert polluted land into working farms in inner-city areas.  I think the potential is enormous, especially in formerly industrial cities, where the big factories are not going to come back, but there are large tracts of vacant land that already have water mains (think irrigation) running under them. Each of these cities spends billions of dollars for food, and can generate significant local income by building the farms and distribution channels needed to cycle that food within city borders. We’ll also need to grow new urban farmers, and tap the excellent skills that many new immigrants already have in growing food.

Did you know that forty-one percent of all U.S. agricultural commodities are sold from farms in metropolitan counties?  Were you aware that 55% of the money made from producing farm commodities was made in metropolitan areas in 2007 ($15.7 billion of $28.7 billion)?  Moreover, Department of Defense studies show that Victory Gardens during World War II produced 40% of all produce consumed by Americans, after two seasons of gardening. This shows the potential for small-scale activity adding up to a big difference.

Gardening can provide food… plus it is good for you.  I believe living on a farm has helped my health.  Walking a lot is good. Working in fresh air can’t be bad.

If you can’t or don’t want to garden… how about participating in Community Assisted Agriculture (CSA)?

Here is an article from the Local Harvest website which I have linked below.

Thinking about signing up for a CSA but want to learn more about the idea before you commit? Read on.  Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a “membership” or a “subscription”) and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.

This arrangement creates several rewards for both the farmer and the consumer. In brief…

Advantages for farmers:

•    Get to spend time marketing the food early in the year, before their 16 hour days in the field begin
•    Receive payment early in the season, which helps with the farm’s cash flow
•    Have an opportunity to get to know the people who eat the food they grow

Advantages for consumers:

•    Eat ultra-fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits
•    Get exposed to new vegetables and new ways of cooking
•    Usually get to visit the farm at least once a season
•    Find that kids typically favor food from “their” farm – even veggies they’ve never been known to eat
•    Develop a relationship with the farmer who grows their food and learn more about how food is grown

It’s a simple enough idea, but its impact has been profound. Tens of thousands of families have joined CSAs, and in some areas of the country there is more demand than there are CSA farms to fill it. The government does not track CSAs, so there is no official count of how many CSAs there are in the U.S.. LocalHarvest has the most comprehensive directory of CSA farms, with over 2,500 listed in our grassroots database. In 2008, 557 CSAs signed up with LocalHarvest, and in the first two months of 2009, an additional 300 CSAs joined the site.

The many of you who have, or plan to join us in Ecuador gain added food security because Ecuador is such an agricultural country. See more on this at Ecuador Food.

The sky is not falling. Yet it could… because of a terrorist EMP attack.  So it makes sense to find enjoyable, healthy ways to live that also ensure your supply of food and water.
