Cotacachi Shaman Thinking

Change, though often feared, is our friend because it opens fields of opportunity… if we can trust our intuition and integrate it with our logic.

ecuador-shamans

Here are photos I took on our last shamanic tour.

Without change, we could never progress.

Problems arise when our thought process resists rather than embraces change.  Combining our logic and intuition assures that this is less likely to happen.

Our Ecuador course on Super Thinking helps delegates learn how to absorb, retain and recall more information.  This helps improve our logic.

Delegates at a previous Ecuador Super Thinking plus Spanish course we conducted in Cotacachi.

Yet to go beyond logic we need to combine our thinking with intuition.

internet-business-intuition

Many Ecuador shamans and shamanas teach the Eagle & Condo Prophesy… a time will come when the eagle and condor fly in the skies together.   Many believe that the eagle represents logic and the condor intuition.  The prophesy says that sharing of indigenous knowledge with the technologies of science will help balance mankind.

One way to blend intuition and thinking is through intellectual gaming.

A game is a structured activity, with a set of rules. This is important… because when we game… we can create a set of rules that is beyond the norm… outside the box of logic…  so our information processing and decision making can escape the tyranny of reason.

Gaming is usually undertaken for enjoyment.  This makes gaming important as well.  When we do something fun… without risk…we do it better.  We can let our imagination soar so we can see eventualities in enjoyable, non threatening ways.

Games are formalized expressions of play which allow people to go beyond their immediate imagination and direct physical activity to see life’s potential in different ways.

When games eliminate play… they lose impact… thus the demise of professional sports which are no longer games… but business.

Gaming allows us to use disambiguation in resolving future conflicts.  This is because our future is always ambiguous… even if we think not.   Our life can take any number of  paths that lead in different directions… at any time.

This leaves us asking, “What should I do?”

Gaming allows us to create a set of out-of-the-box rules that direct us in ways we would never logically reach but can imagine.  Because it is fun and without threat… we can see future opportunity in numerous expanded ways.

One way we can game is to form ideas from our intuition. Then we apply the game’s set of rules that change the circumstances of the idea.

There are two ways to let our intuition to kick in.

One way is to let outward events kick start our intuition… such as spotting birds.

Recently I mentioned how I use the heron as an intuition initiator.

Other birds are meaningful to me also.  Doves, for example, are a sign of “Thinning the veil”.  “Crows represent “Magic & Creation.”  These concepts represent archetypes that we can apply in an out-of-the box game.

internet-business-intuition

One game that the Ecuador shamans taught us to play to increase and trust our intuition is to hike steep trails with our eyes closed.  This is the first time we received this lesson when Merri and I along with our friend, Dr. Jay Glaser, and several others hiked into the sacred Llanganatis Valley in Ecuador.  This was a narrow trail on a steep edge. What a game!

Merri and I have found Vedic Astrology an incredible help when it comes to making decisions that we cannot make with logic.

For example when our daughter Elle graduated from University in London with a degree in dramatic arts. Her question to Merri and me was “Should I go for a career in singing or go on and get a teacher’s certificate in Physical Education?” (She is a superb athlete as well as an aspiring singer.)

We all agreed that becoming a singer is a long shot. Teaching is safe. But we knew that her passion is to shoot for being a star. So how would she feel in later life if she didn’t try?

So Merri had Blaine Watson, our Vedic astrologer check her Vedic chart. The astrologer knew nothing about Elle but said at that time she had just moved into a cycle for three years when her best thing would be the performing arts, entertaining, etc. That was enough to convince us. “Go for it”, we said and we encouraged her. “You’re young, try it for three years and if this does not work then, let’s look again”.

Within a week she was picked as a backup singer with a popular English rock group.

Her first gig was before 4,000 fans! In the ensuing year she was able to meet many of her rock star heroes as work associates. This was an incredible experience for her, but as mentioned the entertainment business is a long shot. Some stars may become rich but backing vocals…so she had to work elsewhere to survive. Her “make money” jobs included handing out pamphlets, selling credit cards by phone and teaching dance at a franchised performing arts school called “Stagecoach”.

She enjoyed this experience enormously and cut a couple of great CDs with a group. Then she began to tire of being poor and looked around for a better way to enhance her wealth.  Her teaching job at Stagecoach led her to look at owning a school and at the ripe age of 23, she took the plunge.

May I say with due respect that Eleanor is the last child that we ever thought would be a business woman. No logic could have shown us this.

ecuador-shamans

On many of our shamanic tours we visit Quicocha Lake for a shamanic ceremony.

Our daughter  approached this business with incredible discipline and dramatically expanded the school. In her first year her profits were in six figures. Her second year took her well into six figures. Today at 26 she lives in a very expensive home on the River Thames. She has a new car, new kitchen, everything she wants and an income in the top 5% of the world.

Had anyone suggested that Eleanor could or would have traveled this path, all of us who knew would have laughed. Her success has been beyond logic!

ecuador-shamans

Alberto Verdezoto (in purple) leads the tour with…

ecuador-shamans

The yatchak and…

his wife.

Yet we supported our daughter’s success based on the realization that every moment there are possibilities that our logic just cannot see but that Vedic Astrology can. The inability to measure the results of astrology used to bother me enormously until years ago I read an article about Aristotle Onassis, the ultra rich Greek shipping magnate. He gave the secret of being a billionaire that helped me look beyond my logic.

“Certainly one does not need an astrologist to become a millionaire.” Then he quickly added that “to become a billionaire, it is essential.” This statement was made long ago when being a billionaire was pretty darn rare.

Onassis’ statement really struck a chord with me as my many years of residence in Hong Kong had exposed me to many businessmen who looked beyond logic. I heeded the astrological advice because the Chinese are very into what some might consider offbeat and unreal thinking, but there were more billionaires per capita in Hong Kong than anywhere else in the world!

In fact the more I thought about this, the more it made sense. To make billions one has to take enormous risks and see a big picture far into an invisible future.

We all have to make some decisions based on events we cannot totally predict, but successful billionaires make huge decisions based on enormous unknowns. It requires incredible faith to take incredible risks. None of us can see the whole picture but Astrology, albeit vaguely, helps us see the biggest picture of all. This did not matter for me anyway, as I do not use astrology as a predictive system.  I find the data extremely useful gets me to think outside the box.

ecuador-shamans

This is a fun ceremony filled with…

ecuador-shamans

beauty.

As international investors, we are forced to deal with forces beyond our understanding and control. We must find simple ways to make decisions about complicated problems, knowing that many of the facts are unknown.   We have to deal with the future in terms of our past experience.

Astrology presents a “what if” that pushes our thought process beyond past experience and encourages us to think in new ways to deal with future events.

This has nothing to do with the supernatural. This is just another simple way to add an extra dimension into your process of thought.

Blaine Watson teaching his Beyond Logic course… always one of our most popular courses each year.

Merri and I read Blaine’s ezine daily.  It is full of beautiful, lively, deeply interesting (and as you can see above), very valuable information for life, for investing, and for fun.  You can learn more from Blaine at blainepw@gmail.com

Cotacachi Shamanic Tour

We are repeating our Beyond Logic & Cotacachi Shamanic Tour this December 6, 7 and 8, 2009 because the most successful thoughts come from Beyond Logic.

This may be why the Beyond Logic & Cotacachi Shamanic tour has been one of the must successful of our 2009 tours. Due to this demand we are repeating this course… plus adding optional Andean real estate plus a free Christmas shopping extension for December 2009.

The Ecuadorian shamanic thinking process can help us learn how to advance and prosper during this economic downturn.   Three shamanic lessons below show why. These lessons are outlined in a moment.

First may I introduce the course “Beyond Logic” conducted by Blaine Watson this December 2009.

Because the last Beyond Logic course was one of our most popular this year, we have added a three day ‘Beyond Logic” Course to be conducted in Cotacachi December 6, 7 and 8, 2009.   Ecuador Andean and coastal real estate tours will follow (more on this in a moment).

The first two days will be conducted by Blaine Watson. Here he is conducting a course here in North Carolina. He is in our teaching kitchen because nutrition is part of the course.

ecuador-shaman

Blaine’s portion of the program includes a personal reading (one per single or couple – a second reading is extra) based on your time, day and place of birth. We’ll get your birth time in advance so he can bring your chart with him. You’ll have your reading either after the course or later by phone.

Here is the course schedule.

Day One. Sunday…Dec. 6, 2009 – Blaine Watson

A detailed description of the 12 signs, the 9 planets and their significations and the 12 houses, how they come into being and the significations of each one, as the basis for interpreting the horoscope and making predictions.

Day Two. Monday…Dec. 7, 2009 – Blaine Watson

In-depth analysis of the of the planets and how to interpret and predict from their placements in the 12 signs and the 12 houses.

Day Three. Tuesday…Dec. 8, 2009 – Quantum Lessons from the Yatchaks. Delegates will visit a sacred valley near our village for a shamanic mingo…just beyond this field.

ecuador-shaman

We’ll hike in (but can also bring those who desire to come by truck) here…

ecuador-shaman

Here is a shot I took of Merri and Don Jose when we hiked in on a previous Mingo.

You can enroll in Beyond Logic here.

Here are the three shamanic lessons.

Recessions and depressions destroy many investors and businesses. Yet these times of cleansing are also the breeding ground for the next group of extreme rich.

Why do some succeed when so many fail?

They have different ways of thinking…gaining energy and seeing beyond the accepted logic.

No one can see the future. It is hard to be energetic and forward moving in tough times. Perhaps this is why only a few become rich and healthy.

The thought process, processing knowledge and natural health have always fascinated me as have the legends of Old Ones the “Abuelos” who live high in the Andes hiding sacred knowledge for longevity, high energy and success.

Merri and I were so intrigued that we bought Hacienda Rosaspamba, high in the Andes and lived with a Taita Yatchak and his apprentices to learn more.

Here is the hacienda and the view we enjoyed each day as we rose.

Ecuador-hacienda

The Taita Yatchak invited Merri and me to hike into the mists and clouds of the Llanganatis, the sacred valley, which legends say contain hidden Incan gold. I suspect the gold is golden knowledge…not the yellow metal!

To find out, and learn more on how to think for true success…in health and wealth, we invited friends, two MDs and a Sanskrit scholar to hike in with us. Here we are, on top of the world, starting that trek.

ecuador-shaman

The first shamanic lesson was to trust our inner vision. The picture below shows Merri and me with Dr. Jay Glaser an MD, Ayurvedic physician and Sanskrit scholar overlooking the sacred LLanganatis Valley.

Here is how we learned this lesson. The yatchak put us on a path like above. Told us to look ahead. Then close our eyes and walk the path. “Trust your inner vision,” he said.

ecuador-shaman

Here we are with the Yatchak in the jungle during that hike.

picture one

The second shamanic lesson was to purify oneself from the outside in and the inside out at the same time. Be pure in eating, action and thought. Always keep cleansing…mind and body.

For example, we stayed in an open air hut during our time in the LLanganatis. The mists there have negative ions that neutralize free radicals in the skin.

Here we are with the Yatchak and our friends at the hut.

ecador-shaman-entire-crew

We brought a Sanskrit expert because the Andean language is based on Sanskrit, a language from India. What made this tidbit special was that we were already studying Ayurved, the Indian science of life…health…pure thought.

We learned for example that the name “Llanganatis” is linked to Indian philosophy. Llanganatis means “Repeated Sacred Action” (the Sanskrit word is Yagya). This led us to a third shamanic lesson…”See beyond logic”.

This helped Merri and me understand how to use Vedic Astrology to see a bigger picture beyond logic. The Indians were able to maintain their ancient wisdom in a more refined and usable way than the Andeans, mainly because the Spanish destroyed most of the Andean Quipos, (knotted cords of different colors used by the ancients to store knowledge).

We learned to integrate the wisdom we have gained from India and the Andes to think and act Beyond Logic.

Our astrologer is Blaine Watson who has been an incredible help when it comes to making decisions that we cannot process just with logic. Blaine is an expert in the wisdom from India and Ayurved.

For example, our daughter Elle graduated from University in London with a degree in dramatic arts. Her question to Merri and me was “Should I go for a career in singing or go on and get a teacher’s certificate in Physical Education?” (She was a superb athlete as well as an aspiring singer.)

We all agreed that becoming a singer was a long shot. Teaching was safe. But we knew that her passion was to shoot for being a star. How would she feel in later life if she didn’t try?

We had Blaine check her Vedic chart. He knew nothing about Elle but said at that time she had just moved into a cycle for three years when her best thing would be the performing arts, entertaining, etc. That was enough to convince us. “Go for it”, we said and encouraged her.

Within a week she was picked as a backup singer with Modern Romance, a popular English rock group with many top hits in the UK including the theme song from the movie, “Shrek”.

Her first gig was before 4,000 fans! In the ensuing year she met many of her rock star heroes as work associates. This was an incredible experience for her and led her to buying a franchised performing arts school called Stagecoach, where see now earns hundreds of thousands a year.

May I say with due respect that Eleanor is the last child that we ever thought would be a business woman. No logic could have shown us this. Yet she approached this business with incredible discipline and dramatically expanded the school. In her first year her profits were in six figures. Her second year took her well into six figures. Today at 27 she lives in a very expensive home on the River Thames. She has a new car, new kitchen, everything she wants and an income in the top 5% of the world.

Her success has been beyond logic!

Yet we supported this success based on the realization that every moment there are possibilities that our logic just cannot see. Vedic Astrology helped us tap into a bigger picture.

The inability to measure the results of astrology used to bother me enormously until years ago I read an article about Aristotle Onassis, the ultra rich Greek shipping magnate. He gave the secret of being a billionaire that helped me look beyond my logic. “Certainly one does not need an astrologist to become a millionaire.” Then he quickly added that “to become a billionaire, it is essential.”

Onassis’ statement really struck a chord with me as my many years of residence in Hong Kong had exposed me to many businessmen who looked beyond logic. I heeded the astrological advice because the Chinese businessmen are often considered superstitious due to their belief in astrology. Some might consider their sight beyond logic, offbeat and unreal, but there were more billionaires per capita in Hong Kong than anywhere else in the world!

The more I thought about this, the more it made sense.

During economic downturns, times seem even more uncertain. Previous history is of little use so these deeper, more subtle ways of processing information become even more important.

This may be why one of our most popular courses we offer is conducted by Blaine Watson, our Vedic Astrologer. Many of our readers also use Blaine and rave about him.

During times of contraction…those who profit most are those who expand…but in the correct way. This course “Beyond Logic” can help you think better, have more energy, natural health and purity to pursue your inner vision, that sees a bigger picture of health and wealth for all.

Ecuador Health Food

Ecuador’s food is health food… compared to food in the US… even Ecuador’s fast food is pretty good.

Many mistakenly think that Ecuador food is something like Mexican food. Nothing could be further from the truth. I have never seen a taco or antijito in Ecuador, although they are available in the big cities in chains.

Ecuadorian food is European if anything but blended nicely with Andean traditions… so it comes out darn healthy.

While in Cotacachi last week we visited with many friends and readers who have moved to Ecuador and heard a similar refrain… “I lost 22 pounds without even trying”. One delegate who has moved to Cotacachi about six months ago reported losing 38 pounds.

We visited our well known international friends, Dan Presher and Suzan Haskins, at their new Cotacachi condo.

ecuador-food

They were both looking so good, I asked their secret.  “We just lost weight without trying” was their reply.

Plus many report that shedding stress helps as well…. along with walking in the fresh mountain air.

Ecuador food is fresh.  On Ecuador’s coast, you can get seafood right from the fishing boats when they come in, like these fresh food shoppers at San Clemente .

Boats like this one just outside the hotel where we have our condos are dotted along the coast.

fishing-boat-1

The fishermen handle the boats through the surf.

Then they head out to sea!

Merri and I meet the fishermen when they return with shrimp and fish and some langostinos.  The shrimp are large enough that two provided a meal!

The Humboldt Current creates one of the world’s most productive nutrient-rich waters that rise along the coast. This is a perfect condition for abundant plankton which leads to an eco region that teems with huge schools of small fish like anchovies and sardines.

The cool waters of the Humboldt Current provide a constant supply of food for big fish such as Dorado (coryphaena hippurus – also called dolphinfish), barracuda (sphyraena indiastes), blue and black marlin, yellow-finned and long-finned tuna (thunnus albacares, thunnus alalunga), snook and many other species.

Here I am in San Vicente with dorado just north of Manta and adjoining San Clemente.

ecuador-dorado-6

Four world-record Pacific bigeye tuna (similar to yellow fin tuna) catches come from Ecuador ranging in size from 236 pounds  to 375-pounds.

Sea food includes Stripped Marlin, Tuna, Grouper, Wahoo and Corvina (seabass).

Trout is in the rivers and lakes of the Andes like this high country lake . ecuador-trout-site

ecuador-trout-fisherman-10

Trout grow well in the Andean Highlands above 7,000 feet, with average water and air temperature virtually constant year-round. The trout feed on scuds, leeches, small fish and various bugs.

Even the seafood in the Andes is fresh. Here is the Ibarra fish market were they bring the fish in overnight.

Prices are really low… mostly about a dollar a pound.

Fruit is vine picked ripe and really cheap… every type… tropical and northern… apples, blackberries, cherries, strawberries and pears.

For those interested in healthier nutrition, here are three nutritional tips sent to us by our friend Blaine Watson.

A diet high in turmeric may help reduce weight gain by suppressing the growth of new fat tissue, according to a study conducted by researchers from Tufts University and published in the Journal of Nutrition. The study was funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and a grant from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.

“Weight gain is the result of the growth and expansion of fat tissue, which cannot happen unless new blood vessels form, a process known as angiogenesis,” senior author Mohsen Meydani said. “Based on our data, curcumin appears to suppress angiogenic activity in the fat tissue of mice fed high fat diets.”Curcumin is an antioxidant chemical in the polyphenol family that naturally occurs in turmeric. In contrast to some phytochemicals, it is easily absorbed by the body.

Researchers fed two groups of mice identical high-fat diets, supplementing the diets of the half the mice with 500 milligrams of curcumin per kilogram of body weight per day. They found that mice in the curcumin group had significantly lower blood cholesterol and significantly less microvessel density in fat tissue than the mice in the control group, implying less blood vessel growth and thus less overall growth of fat tissue. The livers of mice in the curcumin group also contained significantly less fat than those of the mice in the control group.

“In general, angiogenesis and an accumulation of lipids in fat cells contribute to fat tissue growth,” Meydani said. The researcher also noted that “curcumin appeared to be responsible for total lower body fat in the group that received supplementation.”In a similar study conducted on cells rather than animals, the researchers also found curcumin to suppress angiogenesis. The chemical also appeared to suppress the expression of two genes linked to angiogenesis in both the mouse and cell experiments.

I wanted to remind everyone  that turmeric is to be used with some degree of awareness. We never eat it raw. It must be cooked in our food. Capsules are therefore not an option.  We use only organic turmeric. The regular turmeric you buy for example in an Indian store is heavily adulterated with chalk and talcum powder and food coloring.

We also use turmeric sparingly. It is highly highly effective in purifying the liver. The North American/Western diet and lifestyle is highly toxic with many many sources of impurities which are metabolized and stored in the liver. When turmeric is introduced to the diet these toxins/impurities are squeezed from the liver (this would be a contributing factor to weight loss) and this is a good thing but not if it is overwhelming to the body. Detox crisis is a real possibility.

A gentle and universal curry for western palates would be something like:

3 parts powdered coriander
3 parts powdered fennel
1-2 parts powdered cumin
1-2 parts turmeric

International Investments Beyond our Control

There are many international investment fundamentals beyond our control.

This message contains three sections:

#1: International investment fundamentals.

#2: Thomas Fischer’s new report “Money & More” & JGAM international investment portfolios.

#3: An Ecuador ice cream business idea.

There are many international investment fundamentals beyond our control. Take for example, the full moon.

Full moon photo I took overlooking the Pacific.

Merri and I do not sleep well on a full moon. Ever since I worked in a restaurant as a teenager I have known what an effect the moon has on us. Full moons were dreaded in the restaurant as it seemed to bring in what we called the “crazies”. Perhaps I was prepared even then to believe that we could be impacted by the movements of the planets and stars.

Full moon shot I took from Meson de las Flores in Cotacachi. See hotel savings at Meson here.

Yet few know that eclipses also have an impact.  I have read about this human impact for years and so I looked closer when our friend and Vedic astrologer, Blaine Watson, set this note:

Gary, I found this on Jeff Kern’s Board: (Conclusions below.)

“I recently re-read an article about Autumn Selling Panics in the stock market after a total solar eclipse followed by a lunar eclipse within 6 weeks in the same calendar year. So, I did some research using data provided by www.nasa.gov and discovered these recent occurrences within the past 10 years:

Jul 1, 2000 partial solar eclipse the NDX closed at 3763.79.
Jul 16, 2000 (Sun.) total lunar eclipse — the NDX closed at 4061.88 on Monday Jul 17th. The NDX hit an intra-day low of 3341.83 on Aug. 3rd for a 17.7% decline in 13 trading days. For the record, the NDX closed Nov 30th at 2506.54 for an overall decline of 38.3% from the lunar high on July 16th. (Autumn Selling Panic.)

Jun 21, 2001 total solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1751.22.
Jul 5, 2001 partial lunar eclipse — the NDX closed Friday Jun 29th at 1832.75 (3 trading days prior to the lunar eclipse). On July 24th, the NDX closed at 1604.86 for a 12.4% decline in 16 trading days. For the record the NDX closed Sep. 21st at 1126.95 for an overall decline of 38.5% from the Jun 29th high close. (Autumn Selling Panic.)

Dec.14, 2001 annular solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1605.67.
Dec.30, 2001 (Sun.) penumbral lunar eclipse — the NDX closed Friday Jan.4th, 2002 at 1675.03 (3 trading days after the lunar eclipse). On Thursday Feb. 21st, 2002 the NDX closed at 1348.25 for a 19.5% decline in 32 trading days from the market high 3 days after the lunar eclipse.

Jun 24, 2002 penumbral lunar eclipse — the NDX closed Monday June 17th at 1149.91 (5 trading days prior to the lunar eclipse). The NDX closed Aug. 5th at 857.08 for a 25.5% decline in 34 trading days from the market high prior to the lunar eclipse. The final Autumn Selling Panic resulted in a calendar year low of 807.42 on Oct.9th.

Apr. 19, 2004 partial solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1473.50.
May 4, 2004 total lunar eclipse — the NDX closed at 1497.00 on Friday April 23rd (7 trading days Prior to the lunar eclipse). The NDX closed at 1382.47 on
Monday May 17th for a 7.7% decline in 16 trading days.

Oct.14, 2004 partial solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1425.21.
Oct. 28, 2004 total lunar eclipse —the NDX closed at 1487.12 on Wed. Oct. 28th. The NDX Closed Tue. Dec. 14th at 1627.46 for a gain of 13.6% in 35 trading days following the low of 1432.57on Mon. Oct. 25th (3 trading days prior to the lunar eclipse).

Oct. 3, 2005 annular solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1605.59.
Oct.17, 2005 partial lunar eclipse — the NDX closed at 1521.19 on Wed. Oct. 12th (3 trading Days prior to the lunar eclipse). The NDX closed at 1709.10 on Fri. Dec. 2nd for a 12.4% gain in 36 trading days.

Feb. 7, 2008 (Thu.) annular solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1753.30.
Feb. 21, 2008 total lunar eclipse — the NDX closed Feb. 13, 2008 (5 trading days prior to the lunar eclipse) at 1823.00. On Mon. March 10, 2008, the NDX closed at 1673.03 for an 8.2% decline in 17 trading days.

Aug. 1, 2008 (Fri.) total solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1826.56.
Aug.16 (Sat.) partial lunar eclipse — the NDX closed Aug. 14, 2008 (2 trading days prior to the lunar eclipse at 1964.38). On Mon. Sep. 29, 2008, the NDX closed at 1496.15 for a 23.8% decline in 21 trading days. An Autumn Selling Panic saw the NDX decline to 1036.51 on Nov. 20th for an overall decline of 47.2% from the Aug. lunar eclipse high.

Jan. 26, 2009 (Sat.) annular solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1184.56.
Feb. 9, 2009 (Mon.) penumbral lunar eclipse — the NDX closed that day at an intermediate term High of 1281.65. On Mon. March 9, 2009 the NDX closed
At 1043.87 for an 18.5% decline in 19 trading days.

July 22, 2009 (Wed.) total solar eclipse the NDX closed at 1565.00. The NDX closed Tuesday August 4th at 1628.49 (2 days prior to the lunar eclipse).
Aug. 6, 2009 (Thu.) penumbral lunar eclipse — Odds favor an intermediate term market top some where between 7 trading days prior to, up to 3 days after the August 6th lunar eclipse.
There were no solar eclipses followed by lunar eclipses (within 6 weeks of the solar eclipse) during the calendar years 2003, 2006 or 2007.

Conclusions:

1.) In 10 out of 11 instances, the stock market as measured by the NDX rallied between the solar eclipse and the subsequent lunar eclipse that followed within six weeks during the past ten years. (It’s doing that now.)

2.) In 8 out of 10 occurrences, the NDX declined substantially after passage of the lunar eclipse. 4 of the declines (i.e., 50%) were full blown Autumn Selling Panics witness 2000 –38.3%, 2001 –38.5%, 2002 –25.5% and 2008 –23.8%.

3.) In the 2 situations where this solar/lunar combination produced double-digit market gains after the lunar market low, both occurred in October of the calendar year. Also, these abnormally large gains were produced in 36 trading days or less.

4.) The NDX declined 100% of the time when this planetary combination occurred in a calendar month other than October during the last 10 years. All of these abnormally large declines occurred within 34 trading days of the market high near the lunar eclipse.

5.) The evidence discovered suggests these events are not random.

6.) No one can know the future with absolute certainty, but this research suggests there should be a substantive market correction beginning in early August ‘09 with the NDX bottoming around late September to early October.

It appears the total solar eclipses caused the biggest declines among the solar ones.
It appears the penumbral lunar eclipses caused the biggest declines among the lunar ones.

This one now is the first one to combine a total solar eclipse followed by a penumbral lunar eclipse.

For the record, in 1929 a total solar eclipse occurred on May 9th followed by a penumbral lunar eclipse on May 23rd. Of course the market didn’t peak until September, and the bottom didn’t occur until 6 months after the lunar eclipse.

If the moon affects our moods, this could enhance the warnings we have already seen about current market risks.

Blaine has helped us numerous times over a dozen years to expand  our economic thought process.

For example in February 2007 he wrote:  “Since December 20, 2006 a Jupiter cycle has been running on the 3rd level. Jupiter is a planet that signifies banks. He is placed in a house of change and transformation and vulnerability. This cycle ends on February 7. This is interesting timing based on the fact you asked me to introduce this perspective at this time.

“This means there is very little time remaining for the Japanese government to bring about a reasonable and well thought out solution to the problem of a strengthening yen. On February 7 a Saturn cycle begins on the 3rd level. This cycle runs from February 7 and April 5, 2007. Saturn is fortunate for this chart and is extremely well placed in a house of gains. Saturn produces his results slowly and with great effort. This will be a fortunate cycle for the country although short being only 2 months long. A fortunate cycle for the country would logically mean a strengthening currency and a time of building and construction.

“In a word, this horoscope confirms what you and others are suggesting. Over the next 2 months there could very well be a strengthening of the yen, which as you has told me, is not good for anyone who has borrowed heavily on a weak yen.

The yen did rise after that… a lot.

It is important to note that the yen did not rise exactly as predicted but  predicting country economic momentum in this way is immensely complex.

This did not matter for me anyway, as I do not use astrology as a predictive system.  I find the data extremely useful gets me to think outside the box.

As international investors, we are forced to deal with international investment forces beyond our control. We must find simple ways to make decisions about complicated problems, knowing that many of the facts are unknown.   We have to deal with the future in terms of our past experience. Astrology presents a “what if” that pushes our thought process beyond past experience and encourages us to think in new ways to deal with future events.

For example, in the case of the yen… what that prediction did was stat me thinking about my yen loan position and its risk.   After reviewing the yen’s potential… my financial goals and all the other investment and economic fundamentals and alternatives,  I decided to pay off all of my yen loans.  And I wrote about this in my newsletters.

As you can see from the graph below from yahoo.finance this saved me a fortune as shortly after the yen skyrocketed and has remained strong.

A look at one’s horoscope might not predict anything but might suggest it is a good time to take risk or not. This suggestion might as it did for me start a path of thought about “What will happen to my investments if the yen becomes strong. What will the transaction do to the overall financial balance?”

This has nothing to do with the supernatural. This is just another simple way to add an extra dimension into your process of thought.

Merri and I read Blaine’s ezine daily.  It is full of beautiful, lively, deeply interesting (and as you can see above), very valuable information for life, for investing, and for fun.  blainepw@gmail.com

In the case of the eclipse review above, other more traditional forms of economic observation back up the fact that we could see a market correction right now.

See a warning I recently issued about this potential correction here.

Money & More

To help readers understand international investments even more, Thomas Fischer at Jyske Global Asset Management  (JGAM) sends out a periodical Money & More missive to our readers.  Here is money-and-more-august-2009

Here is Thomas Fischer teaching at one of our International Investing and Business Seminars  (IBEZ).

Also if you missed Sunday’s announcement about Jyske TV, see Jyske TV for North Americans here.

Currently JGAM does not see inflation in the foreseeable future.  They believe there are long term concerns of  future inflation created by present fiscal and monetary stimulus.  However, they state, “these concerns do not belong to the economic situation we are in today.”

JGAM portfolios are underweight in the US dollar as they expect the greenback to be in a long term downtrend against other major currencies.

The JGAM portfolios have neutral position on bonds and they favor high-quality corporate bonds because of attractive yield spreads against government bonds.

JGAM portfolios have an underweight position in equities, but they are ready to increase equity exposure,  maybe late summer or autumn.

Their portfolios are overweight in alternatives, including  gold to hedge against an increase in risk aversion and to take advantage of safe haven movements in the market.

JGAM is  ready to increase exposure in commodities when they think the present price correction is over with and they stay with a small overweight in cash.

The most profitable of the Jyske portfolios is their low risk portfolio with a one times leverage (100% loan) and they are keeping their loans in Swiss francs and US dollars at this time.   They are keeping their leverage below maximum levels as they maintain a cautious investment strategy.

The leveraged low risk portfolio rose 11.4% in the first six month of 2009 and JGAM  expects this bond dominated portfolio to continue to do well in the next six months. However JGAM emphasizes that
this leveraged portfolio is only suitable for investors with at least a medium risk profile.

For example the Low Risk portfolio currently has 80% in bonds denominated in US dollars, British pounds, euro, Danish kroner and Australian dollars.

9.32% is in equities denominated in Swiss francs and euro

Gold ETFs represents 4.48% of the portfolio.

6% of the portfolio is in cash.

Retire in Ecuador – Joyfully

Whether we retire in Ecuador… in another country or at home, we should do so joyfully.

This is one thing we love about Ecuador… the joyfulness of the people, as I hope these shots I took in Otavalo and Cotacachi show.

Matter of fact we should do everything joyfully because joy is what life seeks. When we open ourselves to it… abundance also flows.

On the subject of joy, our friend Blaine Watson sent this note:

Remember, the purpose of life is joy, not growth……..growth is a result of the pursuit of joy.  Below is a hilarious story that fits this point.  Keep focused on the humor…..there is very little that deserves “righteous” attention.  Read the little story below….just great… because it reminds us that joy sometimes comes in the simple things.

I was having an out-of-body experience and almost astral-traveled away yesterday, so I grounded myself and got centered with the help of my spirit guides and then the phone rang, and sensing the negative vibrations, I threw the I-Ching and checked my numerology chart, nearly having a primal, but  my energy was too blocked. So I did bioenergetics and self-parenting, took some flower essences and ate an organic oat bran ginseng muffin, but my inner child wasn’t feelingnurtured yet.

To fix this, I had a Rice Dream Frozen Pie, which, of course, made me hyper, so I did the relaxation response technique I had just learned at the Self Healing Angst Tree Defoliating Center while listening to my subliminal tapes. But that left me feeling depersonalized, so I did some polarity work, foot reflexology, and past life regression, then rebirthed myself, and called Moon Beam, my body worker, to make an appointment for a Shiatsu/Reike/Rolfing/Feldenkreis/Swedish/Japanese deep tissue massage. Unfortunately, she flaked out and never returned my call, so I decided to energize my crystals and do some positive imagery because all my visualization techniques and affirmations made my space feel invaded. So to get empowered, I got a psychic reading from Mother Heart Love around the issue of my assertiveness so I could feel my radiance and have some energy for my psycho calisthenics and inversion swing before my harmonic brain wave synergy session.

This made me more focused for my  actualization seminar, holistic healing class and dream workshop, which in turn made me clearer for my Gestalt behavioral cognitive transpersonal Rechian-Jungian-Freudian-Ericksonian session at the hot springs, but my aura was too weak for my trance channeling group, so I fasted until noon to recharge my chakras. At that point, I sensed my intuition was high and my cycle was focused, so I turned on my ion generator to open up for my Neural Linguistic Programming session. But I needed to have my pyramid recharged before my guided synchronicity meditation, so I got some craniosacral therapy, which aligned me for the fire walk between my tarot card reading and my sensory deprivation tank appointment. But even after all that, I felt what I truly needed was a meaningful relationship to mirror myself, so I went to my personal shaman, and then to my guru, but they were no help, so instead I went to the Intensive Whole Life Earth Rebirth Cosmic Expo Symposium Workshop to find someone who really knew what was going on.

That didn’t help either, so I locked myself in a calcium coated Orgone Box and meditated until 9PM.

None of it really worked for me, so I got stoned  on chocolate and went bowling  — and dude . . . did I feel right with the world! —

Blaine is our astrologer and sends out a small idea each day about paths to joy. You can enroll by contacting him at blainepw@gmail.com

Ecuador Shamans & Purification

Ecuador shamanic purification techniques can help enhance life and longevity.

See below how this meadow and Ecuador shamanic purification can enhance your well being.

Ecuador-shaman

Merri and I lived and worked for years with the Taita Yatchak,  a very advanced healer.

For a great deal of that time we lived with this Ecuador shaman and his apprentices at our Andean hacienda. Here is a shot of the hacienda…very remote… and pollution free.

Ecuador-shaman

During that time we found that he was fanatical about three things.

Ecuador Shaman Health Fundamentals:

#1: Proper exercise.

#2: Correct nutrition.

#3; Purification.

The first two foundations of help reduce toxins our body creates. The third basic helps remove the toxins that are created.

He worked with us in numerous ways to help purify our bodies. One was a heavy steam discipline for five days… nothing as severe as the scientology purification rundown… a more gentler form… and consequently safer and probably in the long more effective.

The results are amazing so every few years I like to do this… sit in a steam bath for four hours every day  (you should not do this without the guidance of your medical care giver) for almost a week. (This is of course a slow build up of time…not to jump in to that long of a time immediately.)

However in recent years there has been no way to etch out fours hours a day. We have just been too darn busy.  I tried… putting my extensive reading material in plastic baggies so I could sit in the steam and read.  Baggies, steam and clarity do not go together!

We have both a steam bath and infrared sauna at our home and recently the idea occurred to me… would the purification work if I used the infrared instead of  steam?

I asked my medical care giver… an MD who as also specialized in complementary modalities for over thirty years.

Here is his reply.

Gary,

I have done research on  Infra Red Sauna  vs. Steambath.  The end result
appears to be the same; excellent release of toxins via the skin (largest organ in the body).

Both induce sweating with excellent therapeutic benefits, including:

* Improvement in blood circulation.

* Cleansing and rejuvenation of the skin, hair and nails.

* Muscle tension reduction.

* Immune system boost.

* Excretion of toxins.

* Promotion of a sense of well-being and relaxation.

Infra-red sauna has the following  advantages:

*Can be portable with no need for plumbing.

* Conserves water, an increasingly precious natural resource.

* The “inside” heating action of sauna may be superior to the “outside”
heating action of steam.

*  There can be an issue with bacteria and mold with steam rooms if not
maintained properly).  This is not true with infra red saunas.

* The far infra red unit allows one to bring in I pods, reading material, etc as it is quiet and dry.

* One must be sure that the water used in the steam production is toxin and chemical free.

On the other  hand,  steam rooms would be better for those with sinus problems, asthma and bronchitis.  The  sweat room would wash away  toxins a bit better, but both sauna and steam require showering to insure riddance of the toxins from the body surface.

Some people use both.

One final consideration. If you are aware of your Ayurvedic  body
constitution, you might choose sauna versus steam based on what would be most balancing.

I’ll give it a try and let you know at our upcoming shamanic mingo this June 12-14, 2009, (Arrive June 11. – Depart June 16).

Here are details about this tour.

Our Greatest Promise Yet. Absolutely Nothing… Guaranteed!

Our Greatest Promise Yet. Absolutely Nothing… Guaranteed!

Would you like to be guaranteed everything, better health, more worth, wealth, wisdom and wonder?

Then may I invite you to our newest shamanic tour? It’s about nothing.

This nothing is something Merri and I always wanted to do for 13 years. Yet how could we describe nothing that offers everything?

Then our friend and astrologer Blaine Watson sent this quote of Anthony de Mello:

“The governor on his travels stopped in to pay homage to the Master. ‘Affairs of state leave me no time for lengthy dissertations,’ he said.  “Could you put the essences of religion into a paragraph or two for a busy man like me?”

“I shall put it into a single word for the benefit of your highness.” “Incredible!

What is this most unusual word?”

“Silence.”

“And what is the way to silence?”

“Meditation.”

“And what, may I ask, is meditation?”

“Silence.”

This quote finally gave me permission to describe a Shamanic Mingo about nothing.  Mingo means circle or gathering. This is what our upcoming shamanic tour will be, gatherings around shamans in the sacred area of Cotacachi. That’s all we know will happen because this is the way the good ones are, in the here and now where in the moment forms the actions, teachings and the tour.

So little is so powerful!

For example, we took a group with a shaman to the sacred Ingapirca below for a Mingo. We traveled half the day and arrived at this beautiful spot.

Here is a photo of us lining up for that Mingo. The shaman lit the ceremonial fire. The fire went out. He lit it again and again it went out. “The fire has never gone out before,” the shaman said. “We should not proceed.” We had just a small ceremony instead and he focused on one special person with us, who had been ill. What he did seemed like nothing. Then we spent the rest of the day going home.

Our lives however were somehow turned around from…nothing. The mother later sent us this note.

“Hi Merri and Gary: Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! Our daughter called me from the airport so it is going to be a long stressful trip for her, but she was very happy, excited and told me all about the wonderful time. She could not stop talking about you guys, about the seminar and about the whole positive experience.

“We want to thank you both so much for your support and care and for the wonderful attention you gave. I don’t think she could have made it without your help. Her health is so unpredictable…. She can be fine for a few weeks and then she has a relapse….and, of course, traveling is very stressful for her. But she has a wonderful attitude and is so looking forward to get her business off the ground…this is the first time in over 6 years that she has been able to “get back to work” and she is full of optimism. Thanks again for being so understanding and helpful. I just don’t know how to express our thanks other than to send you both a big warm hug!”

Merri and I have spent months over the years traveling, working, studying and living with Taita Yatchaks, Yatchaks, Shamans, Shamanas and Curanderos. We learned they work from nothing. Here we are with Aldemar a yatchak in the Amazon.

The real shamans are unpredictable because they gain their energy form their environment and from the here and now. They never know how the spirit will guide them so we genuinely do not know what will happen on our upcoming shamanic mingo tour. Expect nothing and you are almost guaranteed to get something and maybe….everything.

Here is Merri and me with a Taita Yatchak deep in the sacred LLanganatis. They say anyone who goes in there dies from a stake in their heart or goes mad. We found this not quite true. Though I assure you our hearts were affected in the most profound ways. You can read about this trip at https://www.garyascott.com/archives/2003/03/27/792/

Perhaps this is how legends arise. Maybe in the LLanganatis your heart will be destroyed to be born again! Or the mind will go mad from resisting the evolution. We will not make it to the LLanganatis on this tour, but we will be with shamans and though we’ll be steeped in nothingness I surely expect our hearts will soar.

We have found that shamans who ask “how much will you pay,” or “what do you want me to do” are not the ones we want.

The real healers are the ones who do not know what they will do and believe that the forces of nature will care for them, so they let the greater powers decide how, how much and when they are compensated and what they will do.

This should not be surprising. Looking for nothing to find everything is suspiciously similar to what quantum science suggests we should do.

Quantum physics indicates that all matter springs from nothing, just energy or wavelengths and that reality manifests from wavelengths in the mind and soul.

This science says illusions are solid. Reality is space. We are composed of molecules, small bits of something spinning around and separated by vast amounts of relative space. Yet molecules are not solid either. They are composed of atoms, even smaller bits spinning around and separated by vast amounts of relative space. Yet atoms are not solid either, but are composed of protons, electrons and neutrons, even smaller bits spinning in vast spaces. And these are composed of even smaller bits, muons, quarks of several spins, also spinning in vast spaces. Super string theory suggests that these bits are even tinier particles composed of smaller one dimensional strings of vibration that are the smallest bits which humanity has been able to conceive.

Where do all these tiniest super strings come from? Nothing but silence and space frozen in solid illusions from our observation, intention and consciousness. In short, our thoughts are the existence that creates the universe. This is the wonder of true quantum research and shamanism too.

The shamans get in touch with the nothingness to alter and heal. When they touch the infinite with their hearts and minds wonderful things happen to those with them.  Healings and awakenings spring from their touch…no scalpels, pills or radiation required!

To accomplish this Shamans have to be in touch with nature, not the schedule of a tour.

So our upcoming Shamanic Mingo is a tour about nothing with no schedule at all. Actually not quite. There are some things we will be sure to do. We just do not know when or where. Instead we’ll arrive in innocence, expect nothing, get our feet in motion and lay our path open to fate. This, I warn you, is a powerful mixture so shed your expectations but prepare for more than you can imagine.

We’ll  visit the sacred Quicocha lake for a shamanic study and perhaps a ceremony.

On another day we’ll cross this meadow… looking at herbs there.  Then…

Ecuador-shaman

Hike (or ride-your choice) down this road.

ecuador-shaman

into this sacred valley where…

Cotacachi Health & Garbage Services

Cotacachi has a great garbage collection and street cleaning service.

This message looks at three ideas… the first in Cotacachi. Then it shares a multi currency investment idea and ends with a global business thought.

Cotacachi-health-services

Every morning at 6am the Cathedral bells ring and the Cotacachi garbage trucks begin playing a captivating tune to let residents know they are near…so garbage can be brought out.  Our friend Blaine Watson tells us this tune the Cotacachi garbage trucks play is a sacred song played in temples in India.

Friends who visit us from Quito are amazed at the quality of our Cotacachi garbage trucks. Much better than Quito’s garage trucks, they say.

Cotacachi-health-services

The Cotacachi street sweepers also begin at about 6am.

cotacachi-garbage-service

So even after a big parade like this…

cotacachi-garbage-service

The next day by 9 am the streets look clean like this.

cotacachi-garbage-service

Multi Currency Investment Thought

On March 12th our multi currency service looked at and agreed with Jyske Bank’s  suggestion to take a long position in Pounds Sterling at 137.92 GBP/USD.

Investors who followed that advise have earned around 6% in tow weeks.

Jyske does not expect the British pounds to strengthen short term and suggests that certain clients take their profit.  We are sending more indepth information to our multi currency course subscribers.

Global Business

Not long a Warren Buffet wrote this about business and opportunity.

Clinging to cash equivalents or long-term government bonds at present yields is almost certainly a terrible policy if continued for long. Holders of these instruments, of course, have felt increasingly comfortable – in fact, almost smug – in following this policy as financial turmoil has mounted. They regard their judgment confirmed when they hear commentators proclaim “cash is king,” even though that wonderful cash is earning close to nothing and will surely find its purchasing power eroded over time.

I agree with this comment.  It is a dangerous investment strategy to remain in cash for too long.   Look for good value real estate, commodities, shares and business opportunities.

I am in Florida now looking at real estate and while here will look at an opportunity you may enjoy involved in organic farming. I’ll report on this tomorrow.

Until next message may the garbage you see be less.

Gary

Here is a business opportunity offer with a week to go.

Here is a one week business opportunity offer. Get the “The Tangled Webs We Weave”…our course on how to have a Web Based  Business… FREE..

A Cotacachi business is great…a quiet peaceful place without much crime, noise or pollution. You can do as Merri and I  have done… have a business that works in Cotacachi, the Blue Ridge of North Carolina or anywhere we choose in the world!

2008 provided many economic lessons that we can use in 2009 to create our own business in Cotacachi or wherever.

The reason we can have this freedom in business as you overcome the global economic distortion that is so grave it will force many of us to continue working… or  to work more then expected or… to start working for ourselves when an existing job is eliminated.

This problem is so acute that Merri and I decided to write a new course…on how to develop your own international internet business.

I launched this course earlier this year and am making a special offer…that gives you this course free…and more.

Now you can learn everything I do to create extra income and have fun and fulfillment in a web based micro publishing business.

The syllabus of this course will help you learn how to find something that is fun, fulfilling and profitable for you to do.

My webmaster who helped me start this site has agreed to co-write the course with me.  Merri and I will explain what and how we do in business.  The writing…the marketing…the product planning and such.   Our webmaster is outlining the technical part. How to choose a server…set up a shopping cart…create pay per click systems…send thousands of emails a day.

Here is a  special offer.

This new course entitled “Tangled Webs We Weave – How to Have Your Own Internet Business” is available at $299.

This is a bargain. Merri and I have been traveling and doing international business for 41 years. We have had a web based business for over ten years. You can share everything we have learned for just $299.

Plus we provide our standard full guarantee. Enroll.  Try the course for 30 days. If not satisfied we’ll give you an immediate, full… no fuss refund.

However when you sign up for Tangled Web in March 2009, I’ll include two of my other emailed courses, How to be a Self Publisher and International Business Made EZ  FREE as well.

PLUS…

My webmaster is joining Merri and me at our two North Carolina courses this year for our first Tangled Web seminars.

July 24-26 IBEZ North Carolina + Tangled Web

Oct. 9-11 IBEZ North Carolina + Tangled Web

I will reduce the fee by $299!

In all you receive the emailed “Tangled Web” course, International Business Made EZ” and “How to be a Self Publisher”,  FREE when you enroll in either the July or October seminar.

Cotacachi Real Estate Upgrades

Cotacachi real estate upgrades  can create extra profit. Here are thoughts about thought from readers around the world and we hope that this helps your international investing.

Yesterday’s message, a thought on thought was about change  and upgrades and readers sent an overwhelming response from all over the world. We’ll look at that in a moment, but here is another shot of the Barro Viejo renovation and upgrades in Cotacachi. We’ll see what a magnificent job they did on the indoor swimming pool later in this message. First…

Change.

See more of this Cotacachi real estate at Cotacachi real estate rejuvenation.

This message shared a theory about how seven year cycles may change the way we process information in each cycle. This is vital stuff. Nothing affects our wealth, health and happiness as much as the way we process information.

Some readers found the theory helpful. For example, one reader from Alabama shared this idea:

Gary,

Your messages are resonating with me — especially this one. It explains so much of my spiritual searching since ‘rewiring’ from my Orthodontic practice 3 years ago. And I can’t wait to meet Blaine Watson for perhaps a further explanation of where I am headed. Thank you so much for your newsletter and see you soon for the celebration at El Meson and the course.

Others were confused. One reader from California shared this:

Gary,

Great thinking on thoughts. Hmmm. So, 7 x 7 = 49. 7×9 = 63. So even with 9 Chakras, emerging every 7 years that only takes us to 63. Then you shift to 2 year 50 cycle thoughts. Add in a couple of Chakras at 7 years each you get 114 not 119. First 50 plus second 50 = 100 + 2 seven year Chakra cycles and we get 114. Even if we repeat the 7 Chakra cycles, that is 7×7 (2) = 98 + the 8th and 9th = 112. Huh? So why do none of these formulas add up to what you are saying.??? What am I missing here? Love reading you thoughts. Just looking for clarity.

Hopefully my reply clarified the confusion and yours if you have as much as I do. I wrote:

There are nine chakras in Andean thinking . Nine X 7 years gets us to age 63. This is pretty close to what we call retirement age.

The second eight 7 year cycles takes us another 56 years and makes us 119 years of age. That’s pretty close to 120 which is about the length Vedic Astrology suggest we should live. Perhaps then we enter the second ninth chakra stage (the ninth chakra relates to the ultimate being). In this stage, perhaps if we have advanced as much as we should, we easily join with the ultimate being. A theory? Guess we only really know when we reach 120!

This still leaves a 13 year gap between the age 63 retirement and the age 50 retirement mentioned in Leviticus.

Another reader from England makes a suggestion about this and writes:

Hello Gary, I have a couple of thoughts. At the time Leviticus was written, 50 could have been a very great age. Most of the text (return to your property: ashes to ashes?; you shall not sow, reap, or harvest; take only what the land provides–could this all be an indication that you are soon to be returning to those already departed and that you shall contribute to the land once again.) suggests this as a possible meaning.

I’ve spend most of my professional life with those at least a generation older than me. I often encounter a resignation to the way things are, however bad. I realize that I’ve made a couple of jumps of thought here but my professional experience suggests that we do start to let go. Perhaps with greater longevity expectations, 50 is the age where we really realize that we’ll ‘never be President’ or attain goals once thought possible. I have definitely changed in the last few years (53 now) and realize that we are meant to be obsolescent and that the vigor of youth is NECESSARY to accommodate an ever changing environment. This is not to say that we at this age are incapable, only that we are less likely to embrace much of the new perhaps because we’ve seen the old tricks before (think politics) and really don’t want to jump thru the same hoops. As an independent entrepreneur, you have had different experiences/expectations than many (also a case of think or swim?) so I probably only speak for a minority.

In any case, thanks for a good article. The idea of advancing up the chakras (from base desires to enlightenment) is surely an idea that has merit, especially when the idea of higher purpose is not a mainstream concern. Your reader in London.

Another reader from Japan also outlined where there could be a one year gap in our thinking.

Hi Gary, Interesting e-mail. As an editor and sub-editor, I couldn’t help noticing this:

“What does appear in many religions and philosophies is a major shift at age 50.

“You shall have the trumpet sounded throughout all your land. And you shall hallow the fiftieth year and you shall proclaim liberty . . .”

No sir, that is at age 49. When you started your second year of life, you were one year old. When you started your 50th, you were 49. And to “hallow the fiftieth year” — that must be the sounding of the trumpets to greet its arrival. (Damn — just for the moment I can’t think of the musical term for a short passage which announces a change and a new direction.) So, you could argue that this too fits the seven-year cycle. Seven squared, in fact. Best wishes from a dull and drizzly Tokyo

Others just outlined how they changed in life during different seven year cycles. One reader from South Carolina shared this thought.

Dear Gary, From age 21 to 28, I lived mostly on an old sailboat (I have already written you about this). Maybe I can help with age 28. At that age, or perhaps late 27, I returned to the U.S. and visited all of my college friends. I had not been in a motor car for years, and I immediately smelled their stink. I got serious about my life and applied to Emory for medical school. My friends, all in fear of age 30, started drinking, doing drugs (more than they had before). At least five of them either dropped girl friends or divorced wives. Actually, I think it was more people than this. Several were killed in motorcycle accidents. Some died in Vietnam , although I don’t remember the precise age I was when this occurred because in many cases it took me years to find out. Hope my experience helps with age 28. I remember that Winston Churchill wrote that his twenties were the “best years of my life” Cordially Yours.

Here is an important point I believe that this reader stumbled across. Modern Western society is so youth oriented and so materialistic that it surrounds and bombards us with the idea that success relates to production and consumption and how much stuff we have and how many things we do and places we go. Western doctrine is all about the outward stroke. Thus inward urgings are met with resistance at every level. Those who start shifting within have zero support. They feel out of odds with society, out of odds with everything they have been told and out of odds with the flow of everything surrounding them. This creates enormous tension when our correct natural path gets out of odds with the way everyone tells us we should be. This could be what causes this phenomenon, when people go off the deep end and do something crazy, so often called the seven year itch.

This reader from Poland gave some great food for thought.

Dear Gary, Allow me to share few of my experiences regarding life circles. I agree with you that the life shifts every 7 years. In my case generally there is a small shift every 7 years and a bigger one every 14 years. I seem to have some in-between periods, where there is a lot of shift.

At 21/22, I officially moved away from Poland to Japan . At 29 my mother passed away – she was a very strict lady. Her death freed me to start walking my path. In the 7th year of my procedure I managed to get Japanese passport.

After studying, for 14 years, what I thought, at that time, to be spirituality, I made a 180 turn and jumped into business world.

After working for 7 years in a top Japanese company, I was delegated to Central Europe (Poland and Czech Rep.). Again after 7 years in Central Europe, I am going back to Japan . The result of these 14 years? I seem to have finally developed my own model for business that should allow me to become self-employed.

Next year I will turn 50. A really huge transition seems to be happening.

During the last 7 years, I was working to finally understand spirituality. I was differentiating everyday life from spirituality. This is the idea I heard from my birth for over 30 years. At 49, I finally accepted that the highest spirituality is to live everyday life, but live it with full consciousness. Every move, every thought, every emotion, every deed is to come from the spirituality within.

Our education is teaching us to look outside for spirituality. This actually is the biggest mistake. The real spirituality is within us. So-called “Heaven” is not somewhere in the stars. To get there flying to the stars, would take as long as all satellites or spacecrafts need to travel. Far too long.

The surprising thing is: when we start focusing inward, not only within ourselves, but when we go with our mind and spirituality into Earth, there is a shortcut to the Moon, Sun and Stars.

I am developing a coaching system for discovering the Inner Strength (Peace) within. The system is called WaKiDo.

At present I have a short sabbatical, in favor of first developing a more tangible subject. At my 50th birthday, I would love to be able to announce becoming self-employed.

In my case, I didn’t develop chakra by chakra. (By the way, There are far more charkas then 9, but this is not the important subject.) In my case the top chakra was overactive for 49 years. Finally at 50, I seem to be reaching the overall balance.

It might seem to negate your theory that after 50 people tend to move away from pure money making, into more spiritual side of work. Actually it does not. Spirituality that I was taught was a special, holy, world detached state of mind that did not really recognize holiness of the everyday life. If we talk about this kind of outside spirituality, then yes this understanding would contradict your theory.

Best regards,

I am sorry if this reader misunderstood my thoughts on detachment in the second seven year cycle. Merri and I are well into our second cycle and getting busier every year. But the business is not about the financial bottom line any more. I could not agree more that our work everyday life and work can be our holiness and especially agree with this reader’s comment:

At 49, I finally accepted that the highest spirituality is to live everyday life, but live it with full consciousness. Every move, every thought, every emotion, every deed is to come from the spirituality within.

I could not have said it better!

Until next message, may all you deeds come from great wisdom within.

Gary

Cotacachi Shamanic Health

Cotacachi shamanic health is one benefit of visiting us here.

Recent messages have looked at many health benefits in Cotacachi…but here is one of the best. People just feel better here.

I do not know why but I continually get raves like this.

Gary, I felt so good in Cotacachi……now my hip and knees are aching again……I .have had to put the heat on my joints every morning since I got back to Florida.

Delegates and guests report feeling more relaxed…healthier… losing weight and inches.

We saw in a recent message about  Cotacachi hospitals.

Yet many who visit prefer to have natural shamanic health treatments… purification and ceremonies.

Here is a group at one of our shamanic mingos enjoying a shamanic ceremony at an ancient Incan site.

Cotacachi-shaman

Here is an interesting fact about how shamanic health and Ayrvedic health, the science of life in India are connected.

We have long know that the root of the Aneadn language Quechua is Sanskrit.

Recently I was researching shigra, a seed bags made from the fiber of a plant here called Cabuya (agauve) for an message about  Ecuador shamans and essential oils

Here is a cabuya.

ecuador-shaman

Some of  my findings in my research led me to question the root of this word “shigra”.  I wrote our friend Blaine Watson who knows Sanskrit.

I came across an interesting comment and wrote to Blaine:   “What does word shigra mean in Sanskrit?  It is a seed bag made from fiber of the agauve plant here.

Here I am with a Cotacachi shaman standing in front of a cabuya.

Cotacachi-shaman

Blaine replied:  The closest I found to this sound is shikara.  Like all Sanskrit words it has a variety of meanings. This one ranges from a type of pointy weapon to a planet, the fibers of which are used for making bows as in bow and arrows or a part of a finger on the hand.  The fibers seem to be a close fit in the context of the seed bag.  The plant referred to in the sanskrit dictionary is Sansevieria Roxburghiana, known as Indian Bowstring Hemp of the family of  Agavaceae  – Century-plant family, Bingo!

We learn something new every day.

Here is a Cotacachi shaman.

Here are some natural health tips from one of our readers.

5 Natural Immune Boosters
That Your Doctor May Have Overlooked

by Curt M Alexander, Pharm.D.

Like many patients I talk to each day, you are probably looking for a natural supplement you can take to boost your immune system during this cold and flu season.

Well, as a pharmacist who specializes in natural therapies I can tell you that there isn’t one. There’s actually dozens of them. But, if you want a combination of safe, effective and inexpensive here are my top 5.

(1)  Acetyl l-carnitine (ALCAR)

One of the reasons I’ve been impressed with this little-known supplement is for it’s immune boosting effects, and also because it was studied in one of the toughest environments possible: HIV.

Why is it so tough? Because HIV patients fighter cells – or CD4 cells – undergo apoptosis, or a programmed cell death. The lower these CD4 numbers get the less defenses patients have to ward off infections.

But supplementing with ALCAR has been shown to slow the cell death and actually increase the number of CD4 fighter cells in the blood.

The studies used minimum doses of 2,000mg a day with very few (if any) side effects.

(2) Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)

Sure, your doctor may roll his or her eyes and pass this off as some wives tale. But there is plenty of evidence to support it’s use in fighting cold and viruses. Most of it overlooked or shunned by the medical establishment.

Some of the earliest work was done Dr. Frederick Klenner.

He originally became interested in this immune booster when, as a child, his family escaped the great influenza pandemic of 1918 that killed many of their neighbors and 50 million people worldwide. His mother gave every family member a bitter tea to ward off the virus from a plant in the back yard. Later, as a small town doctor, he became interested in what was in this tea.

He discovered that in each glass there was 10,000mg to 30,000mg of natural vitamin C. The government RDA is under 100mg!

He later used megadose vitamin C to treat influenza, fevers, high risk pregnancies and even polio (successfully I might add – although he submitted medical reports and papers to the top journals at the time his work was shoved off as quackery).

Now, many forward thinking physicians are starting to use I.V. vitamin C to even treat various cancers.

I personally take 2,000mg a day of vitamin C during the flu and cold season as a preventative. Should I feel like I’m coming down with something (which is rare compared to my coworkers) I’ll dose every 2 hours (or more) until stomach upset or diarrhea occurs. I’ve taken as much as 35,000mg in one day without any adverse effects. Dr. Klenner and other mega-dose advocates have given 250,000mg a day and up without side effects in serious cases.

And I felt better in a day or two, not weeks like other people who got the same virus.

(3) Garlic

Garlic has gone head to head with some of today’s top antibacterial drugs and held its own. In some cases, it even outperformed them! From run-of-the-mill bacteria all the way up to dreaded Anthrax strains.

So garlic has more than enough evidence to support it’s use.

The problem is eating garlic raw can be tough for a lot of people (and anyone around them).

I personally will cut up raw garlic and sprinkle it on my food. Of course, my wife is a garlic lover too so the odor is not a problem. But if your spouse or coworkers aren’t so tolerant you may want to try one of the many garlic extracts available.

Make sure it contains the active ingredient and immune booster in garlic: allicin. Also, many allicin supplements are of poor quality. This is one of those cases where you generally get what you pay for.

If you are already on an antibiotic you may want to ask your doctor or pharmacist about adding in garlic to boost the effects of the prescription medication. Early evidence seems to indicate that garlic has few drug interactions and may be very beneficial in this regard.

As an added bonus, garlic has not shown to produce antibiotic resistance. In case you’re not familiar, that is one of the biggest drawbacks to prescription antibiotics. So much so that many of our most popular antibiotics (like penicillin and sulfa) are now proving to be worthless to even common bacterial infections.

(4) Vitamin D

It’s no surprise that cold and flu season generally kicks in during winter – when there is less sunlight to be had. And, in turn, your body makes less of the sunshine vitamin: vitamin D.

Research has shown that if you supplement with an extra 2,000 IU (international units) a day it can help you make it through cold and flu season unscathed.

So, where do you get the sunshine vitamin when no sun (or little of it) is to be found? In northern climates I recommend a quality cod liver oil. When spring and summer come back it’s enough to get sensible sun exposure each day.

SIDENOTE: Although it isn’t mentioned a lot, remember that as you increase your vitamin D intake you also increase your body’s need for vitamin A. That is another reason why I recommend a quality cod liver oil as it has adequate amounts of both vitamins.

(5) Stay Sugar Free

Did you know studies have shown that the refined sugar in a couple of cans of soda and the like can lower your white blood cell’s cold-fighting ability by up to 40%?

Not only that, infectious cells need sugar to survive. So, limit the sugar and you limit the havoc these cells can wreak on your body. You’ll also find that it’s easier to maintain a healthy weight by consuming less refined sugars.

By far, the best way to limit sugar in your diet is to limit the amount of processed foods you eat.

Remember: when drug companies want to develop a new drug one of the first places they look is Mother Nature. The 5 natural immune boosters above are some of Mother Natures best and ones I recommend you keep handy this winter.

Earn in Ecuador

Many readers write asking for ways to earn in Ecuador.

They want to come to Ecuador… but need to earn here to stay.

This is a global problem.  More and more people…especially those of my  era…near the age where Westerners think they should retire will need to earn more in Ecuador or somewhere.   The economic downturn has ruined their pension and/or savings.

There is a lot of good in this.  Most of us should want to keep on earning… regardless of where we go or live, Ecuador or not.

Our friend and adviser,  Blaine Watson,  recently sent me an article entitled  “Author/physician Shigeaki Hinohara” written by Judit Kawaguchi that explains why it is good to remain employed well beyond what the norm calls retirement years.

The article says:  At the age of 97 years and 4 months, Shigeaki Hinohara is one of the world’s longest-serving physicians and educators. Hinohara’s magic touch is legendary: Since 1941 he has been healing patients at St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo and teaching at St. Luke’s College of Nursing. After World War II, he envisioned a world-class hospital and college springing from the ruins of Tokyo; thanks to his pioneering spirit and business savvy, the doctor turned these institutions into the nation’s top medical facility and nursing school. Today he serves as chairman of the board of trustees at both organizations. Always willing to try new things, he has published around 150 books since his 75th birthday, including one “Living Long, Living Good” that has sold more than 1.2 million copies. As the founder of the New Elderly Movement, Hinohara encourages others to live a long and happy life, a quest in which no role model is better than the doctor himself.

In the article it explains that the Doctor says that energy comes from feeling good, not from eating well or sleeping a lot.  He says to plan ahead. His schedule is already booked ahead until 2014 with lectures and usual hospital work. In 2016 he plans to attend the Tokyo Olympics and says there is no need to ever retire. The doctor  but if one must, it should be a lot later than 65. The current retirement age was set at 65 half a century ago, when the average life-expectancy in Japan was 68 years and only 125 Japanese were over 100 years old. Today, Japanese women live to be around 86 and men 80, and we have 36,000 centenarians in our country. In 20 years Japan will have about 50,000 people over the age of 100.

Hinohara says. Share what you know.  He  gives 150 lectures a year, some for 100 elementary-school children, others for 4,500 business people.  He usually speaks for 60 to 90 minutes, standing, to stay strong.

This is why Merri, our webmaster and I have created a new course on how to build a web business with a webmaster.  Here is a special offer on this new course

Delegates have been gaining from our Ecuador courses on how to earn in Ecuador or elsewhere… in money and more.

Take Todd Smith as an example.  Todd attended one of our courses on how to earn via internet publishing. He started his own website. This is a photo on his home page.

earn-in-Ecuador

This is a worthwhile read because authenticity and transparency are two of the most important factors for earnings success in your own business.

Knowing our clients can have a dramatic impact on earnings and there is a growing trend of people wanting to see the whole picture.

For example, when people previously went for a cup of coffee they wanted the best coffee, served in the least expensive, fastest, most convenient way.  Now more and more buyers want more.  They want to know where the coffee was grown, what type of coffee… what did the growing process do to the environment…  how were the processors and growers of the coffee treated?

They ask what will the coffee do to the body and environment? Was the cup organic? Is the cup recycled and so forth?

We can see how this is affecting the market place in a Reuters news release some time back entitled, Starbucks Seeks More Socially Responsible Coffee.

This article told how Starbucks had launched an aggressive plan to ensure that its coffee came from environmentally friendly farms paying workers a fair wage.

They were setting up strict rules on everything from forestation to pesticides to labor practices.

Starbucks made this move because they have suffered bad publicity from coffee drinkers who wanted more than just a cup of coffee.

People today:

*See a bigger picture.
*Consume and invest in values not just material value.
*See connections.
*Are highly sensitive to being mislead.
*Are willing to pay a bit more for a whole product.
*Want authenticity.
*Are getting organized.

Micki and George Jacobs attended one of our courses on how to earn in Ecuador and globally just wrote:

We have finally gotten our website up and running for selling Bayardo’s paintings. Our webmaster (like you, he’s our son-in-law), made it attractive but simple to use. If you could mention it sometime in your news letter to get some interest started, George and I would really appreciate it. We really hope to sell enough of them to place regular orders, and maybe even increase the number of paintings ordered if sales take off.   Thanks for any help you can offer us. We hope to see you and Merri when we are down there in late March/early April.
Hugs to both of you, Micki.

Micki and George fell in love with Ecuador, and wanted to buy original art.   The watercolors of Bayardo Monteros stood out above everything else… unbelievable detail in the feathers of the birds he paints was captivating.

Here is an example of his work.

They decided it would be a great idea to regularly buy small batches of his paintings to sell in the U.S. Not only would the extra sales vastly improve Bayardo’s situation and expose his work to a larger audience, but it would also give others a chance to purchase an original piece of Ecuadorian art without the expense of traveling to Ecuador. They started this website, EcuadorianWildlife.com

Even more important than the money is the great pleasure one can gain.  Malcolm Gladwell’s new book, “Outliers-The Story of Success”, explains what numerous studies have shown.  Those who have a fulfilling business are happier and healthier as well as better off financially.

The three keys for a business to be satisfying are:

#1: Autonomy.

#2: Complexity

#3: A direct relationship between effort and reward.

This is why earning in Ecuador or globally offers such satisfaction.  This method of earning fits all three requirements.

So if you have discovered that due to, what seems like misfortune, you have to work more… be happy. You may live longer, healthier and happier. There are more explanations about why it is good to remain active are below.

Until next message, good earning to you.

Dr Hinohara aso said about longevity:  My inspiration is Robert Browning’s poem “Abt Vogler.” My father used to read it to me. It encourages us to make big art, not small scribbles. It says to try to draw a circle so huge that there is no way we can finish it while we are alive. All we see is an arch; the rest is beyond our vision but it is there in the distance.

I have copied that poem Abt Vogler below:

1  Would that the structure brave, the manifold music I build,
2  Bidding my organ obey, calling its keys to their work,
3 Claiming each slave of the sound, at a touch, as when Solomon willed
4  Armies of angels that soar, legions of demons that lurk,
5  Man, brute, reptile, fly,–alien of end and of aim,
6  Adverse, each from the other heaven-high, hell-deep removed,–
7  Should rush into sight at once as he named the ineffable Name,
8  And pile him a palace straight, to pleasure the princess he loved!

9  Would it might tarry like his, the beautiful building of mine,
10  This which my keys in a crowd pressed and importuned to raise!
11   Ah, one and all, how they helped, would dispart now and now combine,
12   Zealous to hasten the work, heighten their master his praise!
13   And one would bury his brow with a blind plunge down to hell,
14   Burrow awhile and build, broad on the roots of things,
15   Then up again swim into sight, having based me my palace well,
16   Founded it, fearless of flame, flat on the nether springs.

17   And another would mount and march, like the excellent minion he was,
18   Ay, another and yet another, one crowd but with many a crest,
19   Raising my rampired walls of gold as transparent as glass,
20   Eager to do and die, yield each his place to the rest:
21   For higher still and higher (as a runner tips with fire,
22  When a great illumination surprises a festal night–
23  Outlining round and round Rome’s dome from space to spire)
24  Up, the pinnacled glory reached, and the pride of my soul was in sight.

25   In sight? Not half! for it seemed, it was certain, to match man’s birth,
26   Nature in turn conceived, obeying an impulse as I;
27   And the emulous heaven yearned down, made effort to reach the earth,
28   As the earth had done her best, in my passion, to scale the sky:
29   Novel splendours burst forth, grew familiar and dwelt with mine,
30   Not a point nor peak but found and fixed its wandering star;
31   Meteor-moons, balls of blaze: and they did not pale nor pine,
32   For earth had attained to heaven, there was no more near nor far.

33   Nay more; for there wanted not who walked in the glare and glow,
34   Presences plain in the place; or, fresh from the Protoplast,
35   Furnished for ages to come, when a kindlier wind should blow,
36   Lured now to begin and live, in a house to their liking at last;
37   Or else the wonderful Dead who have passed through the body and gone,
38   But were back once more to breathe in an old world worth their new:
39   What never had been, was now; what was, as it shall be anon;
40   And what is,–shall I say, matched both? for I was made perfect too.

41    All through my keys that gave their sounds to a wish of my soul,
42    All through my soul that praised as its wish flowed visibly forth,
43    All through music and me! For think, had I painted the whole,
44    Why, there it had stood, to see, nor the process so wonder-worth:
45    Had I written the same, made verse–still, effect proceeds from cause,
46    Ye know why the forms are fair, ye hear how the tale is told;
47     It is all triumphant art, but art in obedience to laws,
48    Painter and poet are proud in the artist-list enrolled:–

49   But here is the finger of God, a flash of the will that can,
50   Existent behind all laws, that made them and, lo, they are!
51    And I know not if, save in this, such gift be allowed to man,
52    That out of three sounds he frame, not a fourth sound, but a star.
53    Consider it well: each tone of our scale in itself is nought;
54    It is everywhere in the world–loud, soft, and all is said:
55    Give it to me to use! I mix it with two in my thought:
56    And, there! Ye have heard and seen: consider and bow the head!

57    Well, it is gone at last, the palace of music I reared;
58    Gone! and the good tears start, the praises that come too slow;
59    For one is assured at first, one scarce can say that he feared,
60   That he even gave it a thought, the gone thing was to go.
61    Never to be again! But many more of the kind
62    As good, nay, better, perchance: is this your comfort to me?
63   To me, who must be saved because I cling with my mind
64    To the same, same self, same love, same God: ay, what was, shall be.

65    Therefore to whom turn I but to thee, the ineffable Name?
66    Builder and maker, thou, of houses not made with hands!
67    What, have fear of change from thee who art ever the same?
68    Doubt that thy power can fill the heart that thy power expands?
69    There shall never be one lost good! What was, shall live as before;
70    The evil is null, is nought, is silence implying sound;
71     What was good shall be good, with, for evil, so much good more;
72     On the earth the broken arcs; in the heaven, a perfect round.

73     All we have willed or hoped or dreamed of good shall exist;
74    Not its semblance, but itself; no beauty, nor good, nor power
75    Whose voice has gone forth, but each survives for the melodist
76    When eternity affirms the conception of an hour.
77    The high that proved too high, the heroic for earth too hard,
78    The passion that left the ground to lose itself in the sky,
79    Are music sent up to God by the lover and the bard;
80    Enough that he heard it once: we shall hear it by and by.

81     And what is our failure here but a triumph’s evidence
82    For the fulness of the days? Have we withered or agonized?
83    Why else was the pause prolonged but that singing might issue thence?
84    Why rushed the discords in, but that harmony should be prized?
85    Sorrow is hard to bear, and doubt is slow to clear,
86    Each sufferer says his say, his scheme of the weal and woe:
87    But God has a few of us whom he whispers in the ear;
88    The rest may reason and welcome; ’tis we musicians know.

89     Well, it is earth with me; silence resumes her reign:
90     I will be patient and proud, and soberly acquiesce.
91     Give me the keys. I feel for the common chord again,
92     Sliding by semitones till I sink to the minor,–yes,
93     And I blunt it into a ninth, and I stand on alien ground,
94    Surveying awhile the heights I rolled from into the deep;
95    Which, hark, I have dared and done, for my resting-place is found,
96    The C Major of this life: so, now I will try to sleep.
