Ecuador Shamanic Exercise

Ecuador shamanic exercises can increase intelligence.

Ecuador-health

See why we take delegates on hikes into sacred valleys on our Ecuador shaman tours.

Keeping up with accelerating change is a key to reducing stress, having more wealth and enjoying life more.  We need to continually grow smarter and wiser.

A recent message Ecuador shamanic thought and the brain at this site showed how we naturally become smarter as we age if we remain busy and keep looking for new activities.

The search for expanded horizons also expands our ability to think!

Ecuador shamanic exercises can also strengthen our mental capabilities.

Research by neuroscientist Art Kramer, from the University of Illinois, has proven that our ability to grow and change — is improved as the brain ages if we stay fit.

In his studies on exercising the body, Kramer found that this exercises the brain as well and that memory can improve with treadmill workouts.

“Over a six-month to one-year period,” Kramer says, “three days a week, working up to an hour a day, people improved in various aspects of both short-term and long-term memory.”

Aging test subjects were given treadmill training. Then they had brain scans.   The subjects with the treadmill training had larger hippocampi, the brain area key for memory, then test subjects without the exercise.   Other brain regions too — central for decision-making, planning and multi-tasking — were also larger in the treadmill exercisers. “There are a number of regions,” says Kramer, “that on MRI scans tend to show not just stability but increases as a function of exercise in middle-age and older brains.”

The study suggests that both physical exercise and cognitive brain training working in combination are especially effective.

Kramer’s research shows that the combination of the two contributes to brain health.

One of the 58 year old scientists involved in the research for example does a New York Times crossword and numbers puzzle every morning, as well as a series of toning and stretching exercises and at least 20 minutes of aerobic exercise each day.

Ecuador shamans have known this for centuries and teach their apprentices to do both physical and mental exercise.

Ecuador-health

One of the most important exercises taught to us by the Ecuador shamans is the Llama Walk to strengthen the legs to better absorb the earth energy (frequency).  Here I am on one of our hand bridges in the Blue Ridge doing the Llama Walk.

Ecuador-health

I no longer jog… but like walking and hiking… especially up and down hills. Here I am hiking up Mt. Cotacachi with our hound dog Ma.

This search for health, vitality and longevity is one of the reasons I really enjoy living out of the city in Ecuador, Florida and at our Blue Ridge Farm.

There is plenty  of space to roam, to walk and to explore.  Merri and I have long discussions on these walks that keep us filled with interest.

Are you getting older and sometimes forgetful?  Or are you young but feel under continual pressure and stress to adapt to change?  Be smarter. Beat the effects of aging and a faster world with exercises.

Western exercise is also available because Ecuador gyms are plentiful and inexpensive.

A reader recently sent this note:  Could you or a member of your staff provide responses to the following questions, which may be of interest to many of your readers:  1.  Is there a gym  or “fitness center,” or two located in Cuenca, Ecuador?  2.  If so, can anyone advise of average cost to join and monthly fees?  3.  Same questions with regard to Cotacachi?  A gym or “fitness center” or two (or more of them)  4. Average cost to join and monthly fees in Cotachachi?  Thanks very much for considering these questions.

Cotacachi has one gym I know of with fitness classes every morning.  This gym is primitive by US standards and costs $1.50 a day.

Cuenca has a Curves for ladies started by readers Bill & Leita Bush.    This is a US franchised operation and offers workouts and fitness classes for women only.

Bet On the Come

During bleak times… bet on the come.  Be positive… because this is the way of the world.

In fact this is the way of the universe… to grow and expand.  Sure there are times of contraction.  Cycles are part of life.  Yet the frequencies of existence have always been expansive.

stars

This photo from the Hubble Space Telescope shows primordial galaxies in a formative stage over 13 billion years ago.

If scientists have it right…  since the Big Bang began everything has been expanding. If so this fact and the “As above, so below reality” logically leads us to believe that it is part of the universal order to expand.

stars

How the scientists see expansion.

We can see reflections of this inherent “nature of expansion” in numerous ways… including art’s evolution over the eons.

An excerpt from a BBC article entitled “Last supper ‘has been super-sized’, say obesity experts”  reflects this natural expansion.:  Da Vinci’s Last Supper was painted in the 15th Century.  The food portions depicted in paintings of the Last Supper have grown larger – in line with our own super-sizing of meals, say obesity experts.

The Cornell University team studied 52 of the most famous paintings of the Biblical scene over the millennium and scrutinised the size of the feast.
They found the main courses, bread and plates put before Jesus and his disciples have progressively grown by up to two-thirds.

This, they say, is art imitating life.

Professor Brian Wansink, who, with his brother Craig, led the research, published in the International Journal of Obesity, said: “The last thousand years have witnessed dramatic increases in the production, availability, safety, abundance and affordability of food.

I’m really not surprised by these findings because the size of our plates and food portions has increased

Dietician Charlene Shoneye

“We think that as art imitates life, these changes have been reflected in paintings of history’s most famous dinner.”

He says the finding suggests that the phenomenon of serving bigger portions on larger plates has occurred gradually over the millennium.

So if you feel that the world is falling apart that everything is contracting… bet on a positive future. The forces of nature are behind you with… expansion… growth…. revolution and greater abundance of… everything… for everyone.

Besides if we reach a period of true contraction… all bets will be off.

Real downturns (like a global plague or giant meteor hitting earth, or polar axis shift or  nuclear war) create unpredictability.   Knowledge, experience, control of assets, training, infrastructure  and material resources are likely to become useless in such times.  Only our inner resources will count in those times and that is another story for another time.

In  recessions, downturns and reversals… bet on the come. History suggests that this is how to grow the most and you’ll be supported by the laws of nature.

This does not mean we should throw all caution to the wind. Though we should bet on expansion, we also have to survive the downturns.  Though we should be positive and know that each recovery is usually better than the last… we still should maintain discipline, prepare and expand for the upswing within the confines of our individual financial circumstance. The trick is to know when the downturn is done and… if possible… to be accumulating during the downturn which is generally the time of best value.

Recently, I spoke at an International Living seminar in Quito Ecuador. Almost 400 delegates were there.

pedernales real estate

Every seminar has its own unpredictable, peculiar flavor. This was a congress with many attendees talking about how the US banking system was shutting down and how some conspiracy or another was about to take over the world.

I soon had the feeling that many of the delegates had run away from the US to hide in Ecuador.

What a mistake so I decided to try and change that feel!

My speeches usually start with a bit for formality… the blue blazer guy on the podium.

pedernales real estate

Soon though, I get that coat off and get down on ground zero close to those who are sharing this time with me.

pedernales real estate

“Don’t come to Ecuador or anywhere…. to run away.  Come looking for the delights and opportunity.”

This was the story we shared.  This is my 42nd year of international investing and business.  Going global is fun… exciting…. filled with profit and adventure.   Plus traveling to new places expands horizons.  There have been the Chicken Littles every year I have been in business saying the sky is about to fall.

It’s still up there and it is expanding.

After my speech, I was surprised at how many delegates thanked me for this positive message.

Whether you are in business or are an investor… bet on the come.  Everything in the universe suggests that better times really are ahead.   Those who believe this and act on it are most likely to profit.

Gary

Here are what delegates had to say about our last course.

Had a great time at the “Super Thinking course” in Mt Dora. See you at this Multi-Currency course.

Another delegate said:

I just wanted to thank you for the Spanish and Super Thinking class  in Mt Dora.  I  was not sure what to expect but it was a lot more than I expected. Both you and Merri put everyone at ease so the experience was both enjoyable and educational.Your knowledge and intelligence opened many doors for me personally. For that I will be forever grateful.I am looking forward to some of your other classes.Thank you again

Ancient Thinking Comes Round

There was great wisdom in a lot of ancient thinking.

Ecuador-shamans

See below how symbols like this can help you find value in real estate today.

What goes around, comes around… so many of the ideas that are now called modern science have been with mankind for thousands of years.

Around 3500 BC, the Mesopotamians began to attempt to record some observations of the world with extremely thorough numerical data.

Records of Pythagoras’ law in tablets dated as the 18th century BC.

Babylonian astronomy is still widely used in Western calendars.

Ancient Egyptian science included astronomy, mathematics and medicine including analysis of the brain that have been called “the very beginnings of modern neuroscience”.

Vital legacies of science included factual knowledge, especially in anatomy, zoology, botany, mineralogy, geography, mathematics and astronomy; an awareness of the importance of certain scientific problems, especially those related to the problem of change and its causes; and a recognition of the methodological importance of applying mathematics to natural phenomena and of undertaking empirical research.

The influence of this thought led one generation of science to the next.

Great knowledge has been known for thousands of years and when we look back at this knowledge we find ourselves on the threshold of modern science.

The hotel was originally created by Sr. Hugo Cordova who was governor of the Province at a time when the village was in dire economic doldrums.  The  building had been the home of the Cordova family and center of a great ranchero in the colonial days.   Sr. Cordova opened the hotel to attract wealthier Ecuadorians from Quito to vacation in Cotacachi and bring progress to what was then an isolated village.

Learn About Ecuador & Speak Spanish in Three Days

Learn Spanish in Three Days ONLINE

The “Learn Spanish in Three Day Course” is now available online.

Learn Spanish in a day, or a week, month or any time frame that works for you.

I’m Gary Scott.  Over fifty years ago I started a business that has helped hundreds of thousands of subscribers learn about investing in Hong Kong (1960s and 1970s), Switzerland, London, Isle of Man (1970s and 1980s) and across Europe.  In the 1990s we took investors to Panama, Mexico and Ecuador.  That’s when we realized an incredible need for an easy way to learn Spanish.

See below how my wife Merri was able to create a program that allowed students to be speaking and understanding Spanish in just three days.

Thousands of subscribers have learned Spanish at our three day Super Spanish course.  These courses have been taught across the US, in Canada, Panama, Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay and Spain.

spanish

A Super Spanish course in Florida.

Read below to see how and why we are now offering our Super Spanish course ONLINE for the first time.

Speaking Spanish as a second language has huge benefits.

You can become one of the rare North Americans who can get along in Spanish speaking countries.  You can be one of the special people who can communicate with 10 million non-English speakers in the USA.  Spanish is the second most used language in the USA.  There are more Spanish speakers than speakers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Hawaiian, and the Native American languages combined.  According to the Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language of nearly 50 million people in the US.  This is the largest Spanish-speaking community outside of Mexico. Only half of these speakers also speak English “very well,” and 19% do not speak English at all.

You become one of a leading few when you speak Spanish.  Yet there are more benefits.

An article in England’s leading newspaper, the Telegraph, entitled “Why learn a foreign language? Benefits of bilingualism” (1) sum up the biggest benefit of learning a second language and increased intelligence.  The article says (bolds are mine): “Learning a foreign language is more than just a boost to your CV or handy for traveling.

It will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English.

Physiological studies have found that speaking two or more languages is a great asset to the cognitive process.  The brains of bilingual people operate differently than single language speakers, and these differences offer several mental benefits.”

The article then explains studies that show seven cognitive advantages gained from learning a foreign language.

#1:  You become smarter
#2:  You build multitasking skills
#3:  You stave off Alzheimer’s and dementia
#4:  Your memory improves
#5:  You become more perceptive
#6:  Your decision-making skills improve
#7:  You improve your English

Does it sound impossible to learn Spanish in three days?  Yes, it is impossible when you try to learn Spanish in the old, traditional way.

You may choose to take more time using the ONLINE course to learn Spanish, but thousands of our readers have learned to speak Spanish in only three days at our Spanish courses.

There is a scientific method of learning… proven and described in numerous best selling books that create educational jumps by making education natural, easy and fun.   This course works because it is education without stress!

A special method of learning (called Super Learning) was created and refined by the Bulgarian educational master, Georgi Lozanov.   Lozanov transformed the entire Soviet educational system to such a degree that this third world country beat the USA into space.

My wife Merri was lucky to be one of a handful of students outside of Bulgaria who were allowed to be taught this system in the early 1970s.  She practiced this unique and remarkable form of education for  four decades. It was a delight!

Merri and I began integrating these techniques with other shamanic and educational tactics we had gained in our global travels and then applied them to teach Spanish in three days.

The course has been proven again and again by the thousands who have used this system.  You can read a few of the many raves we have received from students who have learned from the Super Thinking Spanish course we created.

Here are a few quotes from delegates of the course.

One delegate from St. Louis wrote:  Hi Gary,  Just ended forty-five years in dentistry last week, and I’m on to a new career.  What is my new career?  Still formulating, but the eye -opening,mind expanding Super-Spanish course last weekend in St. Louis surely shows me the opportunity exists to expand my horizons.

Besides having a lot of nice people to learn our new language; the methods Merri and you developed proved to be just what you said they would be.  We all and I in particular relaxed our way to new learning.  I feel so very comfortable with the basis of my new language skills that I know I will be spitting out great Spanish sentences by the time I reach Ecuador in October.  Last year I spent six weeks in Ecuador and now I plan on conversing with the people.

Today’s excerpt of your newsletter really hit home. You do what you say you will. There are no surprises or hidden sales tricks. The only tricks are beneficial to our learning.  Thank you for a wonderful experience that I was quite unable to grasp how you would pull it off.  You did, however, and I look forward to other courses that you offer, and I have absolutely no doubt they also will work beneficially.  Best regards, Denis Molloy.

Another wrote about the Super Spanish course:   Buenos Dias, here is a testimonial for Super Thinking-Super Spanish.  Please feel free to use all or part in promotions for the course.  In addition, you may give my email address to any prospect “on the fence” about enrolling.  Yesterday, in Cotacachi, Ecuador, I finished Super Spanish.  I had high expectations for the course and they were exceeded.

After three days, I can speak Spanish in complete sentences. In simple conversations, such as buying groceries or ordering a meal, I can make myself understood. I think that’s incredible!

Although I am far from the competence level of a native speaker, I feel I’ve taken a giant step forward in learning Spanish so that I can experience the people and culture of Ecuador.  The foregoing benefits would have more than justified the time and money I invested in Super Spanish.  And learning some Spanish was not the most important benefit I got from the course.

Prior to leaving the USA, I had felt for some time that the pace of life there was unhealthy for me (and for most people) and I did nothing about it.

I’ve thought about the pace issue during the course.  One of the key elements Merri Scott designed into Super Spanish is placing the student in the optimal state for learning.  In class, the past three days, I’ve been re-introduced to guided journeys and introduced to the calming effects of Baroque music (www.sundaybaroque.org).  What a blessing! I’m inclined to make one or both a daily part of my life.   Rob Christi.  Cotacachi, Ecuador

Another attendee from a course wrote:   “I took this incredible class a few weeks ago, and I would like to tell anyone that is interested, that it is an amazing three days of learning with lots of laughs included. You leave everyday wanting to learn more and are so excited to do so.

“Other Spanish classes and tutoring made us feel like it would take forever to get to the point where we could put it into practice, but this method gave us a more fluent use for everyday life almost immediately AND the confidence to use it.  It is a fantastic way to show people how much they know and give confidence to learn and use Spanish creating a momentum.

“They made learning Spanish easy and fun in a very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.  I would definitely recommend this course.  Even if you know some Spanish, this helps make it easier because of the less stress that no verb conjugations gives you.  This gives you more confidence in yourself to try and speak it more.

“The stress free atmosphere and tons of interaction and participation were very conducive to learning.  The relaxation techniques alone are worth the price.  The fact that I can now feel more comfortable conversing in Spanish with my new friends and neighbors is priceless.  Muchas, muchas gracias.”

“I loved the relaxed environment.  I picked up quite a lot of new vocabulary.  I found this course very informative about how the language works, how I can make sentences and understand others better!  Muchas Gracias!  I had a call from Telcel (the local phone company) after our second class and I was able to speak and understand them for the first time. Despacio (meaning slowly) … a great word!  Everyone should take this course before they pick up bad habits.”

“I liked how simply the course was organized and the positive attitude about learning.  Thank you so much for helping me to learn Spanish!”

“I liked the laid back yet professional approach.  I highly recommend this new, relaxing method of learning Spanish,  I feel a lot more confident in the delivery of my words and sentences. It was taught in an excellent and very professional way.

“It was a very enjoyable class.”

How The Course Works

The first tactic is to use Baroque music to create Relaxed Concentration in the learning process.  At least three best selling books, “Superlearning”, the “Mozart Effect” and “Superlearning 2000” have revealed insights about how to learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian educational master, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.

Merri was among just a few who learned directly from Lozanov.

gary scott super thinking session

Super Spanish relaxed concentration session.

You gain six valuable ONLINE Relaxed Concentration sessions in the online course that is delivered via the internet.

The second tactic uses 17 unique lessons to provide Spanish fluency in a short time.   Let me prove to you how this tactic works by teaching you hundreds of Spanish words in less than 30 seconds.

Here is the proof.

“Most words in English that end in ION are almost identical, just pronounced differently.  For example action is accion, education-educacion, manipulation- manipulacion, etc.”

There you have it.  How long did it take you to read the sentence?  You now know hundreds of Spanish words that you will never forget.

See examples of the words you already know below.

How long would have taken you to memorize all those words?  How soon would you have forgotten them?

This is just one of seventeen Spanish lessons in the course.

The next lesson teaches how to pronounce each of the nouns.

Then, the third lesson teaches almost as many verbs, almost as quickly.

The fourth lesson shows how to avoid conjugating verbs by sticking with the infinitive (far easier than it sounds).  This simple lesson leaves a person sounding like a Spanish professor without ever conjugating a verb.

Lesson five shows how to sound infinitely polite and yet get almost anything desired in Spanish.

Lesson six gives valuable connectors and the seventh lesson triples the Spanish capacity with three words for “yesterday,” “now” and “tomorrow”.

By the end of three days you feel comfortable speaking Spanish.

Plus the system is Impro-Dynamic.  This means your Spanish keeps getting better even though you do not seem to be studying… practicing… or speaking Spanish.

I was amazed by this as I traveled back and forth from the USA to Ecuador.  The longer I was away from Ecuador… the better my Spanish became.  My second language was automatically improving The self improving feature comes because you learn to create Spanish sentences rather than remember them.  The portion of the brain that creates is more powerful than the portion that recalls.  When your mind creates something… it owns it!  You do not have to remember .

During the course you learn 4005 Spanish words that you already know.   This eliminates the need to memorize 99% of Spanish words.

You then learn how to create Spanish sentences from these words.

Throughout the course you learn how to pronounce the sentences you create.

When the course ends… the mind keeps working… and creating… so next time you begin to speak Spanish you’ll be surprised .  You improve even though you have not actively worked on your lingual skill.

Due to the difficulty of getting groups together to learn this valuable technique, we created an online program for subscribers to use the Super Spanish course at home.   The normal three day course fee is $499 ($749 for a couple).

The ONLINE course is available at the highly reduced price of $79.

I’ll be in touch personally via email with each person who signs up for this course to see how it works or what is required to make it better.  Once this test is complete, we plan to offer the program on a larger scale and at a much higher price.

Maggie wrote: It didn’t really seem possible that we would be speaking and understanding Spanish in only 3 days but the course made it happen in a very supportive learning environment.  I would highly recommend this course for anyone wishing to learn “practical Spanish”.  The teaching methods, use of relaxation, the use of native Spanish speakers for pronunciation and the teachers themselves who were approachable and helpful and always positive made this a very valuable class.

This course improved my self confidence in my ability to learn and retain a language.  It was presented with genuine enthusiasm, great energy and the style of learning is very effective. Gracias!  It was a great experience.

Nadine wrote: “Just spent the last 3 days in the most wonderful learning environment learning Spanish.  What an amazing learning experience!!  First day out of class and I could not stop thinking in Spanish WOW!!  I am amazed by how much I learned, retained and how much more is showing up now that I am out of class.  And the best part is THERE WAS NO STUDYING!! Indeed this is Super Thinking!!!  I would highly recommend this to anyone that has ever had a desire to learn another language or learn anything in record time.

And a few days after that ….  As I went through my day, just hanging out with my son, I could see myself starting to think in Spanish.  At first I thought it was amusing but as it continued and increased I thought “My goodness this is really remarkable amazing” It was really an effortless unfolding.  I wasn’t at any point “trying” to think in Spanish, just words I knew would fly across the screen in my mind.  And then this afternoon, my son cuddled up on the couch to watch some cartoons on his ipad and was watching Peppa Pig in Spanish…hmm coincidence?  I think not, I’m radiating Spanish so much that my son is being influenced!  Thanks a million again.  This weekend the best learning experience of my life!!

If you have ever had a desire to learn Spanish this is the way to do it!  By the end of the first day I had more confidence and more practical ability than I had from any previous courses I had taken.  It was fun and relaxed and full of laughter.  You will leave this class excited to use what you have learned.  Rather than leaving overwhelmed with how much you have yet to learn and master, you are equipped with the knowledge and know how to go out and communicate as well as the excitement to do it!”

Gary noted:  “The whole approach is positive and conducive to learning at a level that benefits ALL participants.  It is not intimidating and does not set up a pass/fail atmosphere.  The presenters are terrific and the results unbelievable.  It was relaxed, informal, friendly and effective.”

Twila said:  “This class provided a very refreshing and relaxed way of learning.  The atmosphere felt very safe to say the words you were practicing.  I learned a lot in a way that will make it easy to apply.  Starting with conversation is way more fun.  How quickly you can learn!  It was a great group, great instructors and great stories.

The atmosphere in the classroom was so relaxed that learning Spanish felt like a breeze and not like a painful task.  The relaxation exercises are really conducive to language learning.  We learned A LOT in a short time and it was fun and the environment was non-threatening.”

Brigitte sent this:  “Buenos Dias, Suzanne. su clase de espanol es excelente! Muchas Gracias!
I have already done what you suggested and went into the program listening to the music and going over the lessons.  I know: Repetition……reinforcement…..thinking in the new language….it’s all part of it.  I loved your course and will certainly recommend it to friends.  Who knows….I might feel the urge and have the opportunity to repeat it at your beautiful place in Puerto Aventuras…..Quien sabe? Hasta otro dia y saludos a su familia.”

Marie wrote:  “I would highly recommend this course.  The amount covered in 3 days is amazing!  All with no stress.  The correlation lessons and pronunciation practice has greatly reduced my anxiety to go out and use my Spanish.  I really enjoyed the whole process and thank you for the take away tools.”

Internet Opportunity in Authenticity

Yesterday’s message Quantum Shifts reviewed how humanity’s growing understanding of the body, mind and universal consciousness has helped Merri and me expand the effectiveness of our investing.

Merri and I are in Ecuador.  Here are delegates on our Imbabura real estate tour.  Learn more about this Ecuador house (in the $90s) and why delegates needed to see it below.

ecuador-real-estate

First remember three points made at our Quantum Wealth course last week and yesterday’s message:

#1: There are Always Things you Cannot See.  This is the nature of existence.

#2: Do Not Invest More than You Can Afford to Lose!  Because of point number one.

#3:  Look for belief in fundamental ideas.  Each of us in connected to the universe and our belief is an important part of our investing process.  There are always things we do not know… but belief has enormous power at incredibly deep levels of investing and the universe.

These facts always keep me looking for new ideas in which to believe and upgrades in the human productivity has always been one area that keeps me focused.

In an earlier article Magnificent Seven we saw how these shifts create new opportunities for investment and internet business in seven areas.

Truth & Cohesion

Ecuador

Currency Distortions

Value Markets

Emerging Markets

Wellness,
Water and Alternate Energy

Truth & Cohesion

Ecuador

Smalltown USA Real Estate

I believe that there is opportunity in these seven ideas.

My belief in the profitability of investing in truth & cohesion was enhanced by an Time’s article entitled “Dead Tree Alert All the News That’s Fit to Mint”  by James Poniewozik.

Here are excerpts: My column in this week’s print TIME is about the New York Times’ plan to begin charging (some people, something) to read it on the Web starting next year. Seemingly by design, it doesn’t look like the plan would raise too much money at first. It’s more important symbolically: the country’s most authoritative (and argued-about) newspaper is more or less declaring that, if old media don’t figure out a way to get paid  online, it’s game over. What would the blogosphere do without the New York Times to kick around?

There are a few things you can count on: the sun will rise in the east, winter will turn to spring, and the New York Times will come out every day. Of the three, the disappearance of the Times might be the most shocking to a reader’s sense of a rational universe.

But that’s exactly the scenario that was implied — and, Times bosses hope, staved off — by the recent announcement that next year the paper will begin charging for online access. The Times is possibly the most authoritative paper in the world and the most influential online, with 17 million monthly readers. It’s done well in most media — except the print medium that’s green and is issued by the U.S. Mint.

The Times is in the same fix as most other old-media outlets, including this magazine. Online ads don’t bring in enough to support the massive news operation that attracts those 17 million people. Last year, the Times won five Pulitzer Prizes — and borrowed $250 million from a Mexican billionaire to keep the lights on.

No Big Media institution is indispensable: not the Times, not the evening news, not TIME magazine. People don’t owe us their money; we owe it to them to be worth paying for.  If we go, people will find other sources to trust; in some cases, they already have.

One of those is The Daily Show, which commands Times-like faith among its fans. Last year, it did a segment on the Times’s woes, in which Jason Jones mocked the paper’s dead-tree format and landline phones. “Look at me,” he laughed, picking one up. “I’m a reporter from the ’80s, makin’ sure everything’s factual.”

It was searing, but bittersweet too. The Daily Show, for all its jokes, cares deeply about facts. If the Times’s pay wall doesn’t work — if nothing works — something else will replace today’s media. Something great, I hope. But I wonder if the new media would be a little bereft without a Times to react to, rebel against and define themselves against, like a dog that finally caught the car. Or in this case, the rolled-up newspaper.

When the media that we trusted are gone, who can we trust?

Fortunes are in the correct answer to that question… both for those who provide trustworthy data and for those who invest in truth and cohesion.

This is why we have doubled our Ecuador real estate tours in 2010.  Many Americans and Canadians have lost their trust in the truth of the North American establishment.  They are looking for a smaller place to be where it might be easier to spot the truth. Ecuador is one such spot… but how can you develop trust here.

Our belief is you need to look and see for yourself from someone who has nothing to gain… hence real estate tours from someone who is not earning real estate commissions.

Our staff are cntinually looking for property to show on our tours and Bonnie Keogh sent me this note about a new project near Cotacachi Ecuador.

Hi Gary,  Don’t know if Merri got a chance to tell you about the new houses going up in Cotacachi.  They are being built by Miguel Mora who built the condos on the Pan Am in Otavalo that we’ve been taking the tours to (all sold out except one).  Very smart guy, he’s been building for 12 years in this area and his architect has about 20+ years experience.

They bought a beautiful piece of land near Hostal Paradisimo in Cotacachi and will be starting the infrastructure in February.  He is very anxious to work with us and will give delegates a discount.

He’s very aware that you will not recommend anything that you do not feel is of the highest value and quality.

He speaks perfect english, as does his architect Patricio, and is very proud of his houses.  Peg and I had a meeting with him yesterday and then he wanted to show us a project he did in Otavalo more than 8 years ago.  The houses are on the grounds of a centuries old monastery, they built the new homes to blend with the old and did an excellent job.  The grounds reminded me a La Mirage, wonderful garden like feel.  Lots of room and privacy.  The houses showed no wear and tear, no moisture problems and were very inviting and comfortable.  One feature that is great, a rooftop terrace to enjoy the views and also a rooftop tower!  Folks have been asking for this and this land has the best views ever, both Imbabura and Cotacachi.

They are very open to modifying designs to accommodate folks wishes, bigger, smaller ,etc.

Building costs will be about $65-$70 sq. ft. with land, depending on lot size.  There will city water, private water for irrigation, private sewer, a swimming pool and hot tub for the community.  Also, full time caretaker and gardener.

His standard fixtures are very good, but upgrades are available at slightly higher costs.  They also take into consideration the seismic activity of the area and build their houses accordingly.

No building is earthquake proof, but their buildings will withstand limited movement and in the event of a major quake, will give their occupants plenty of time to get out.

I think this development is a winner and will sell out quickly.  It will have an incredible view, high quality construction, great facilities and beautiful gardens.  Bonnie.

These are the types of properties we look for so we can help you gain trust in Ecuador.

Dead Tree Alert All the News That’s Fit to Mint

Ecuador & The Importance of Place

When choosing a new home, full or part time… the last few miles… even the last few yards and feet can be hugely significant.

A reader sent this comment about the importance of place in Ecuador… or anywhere actually.

Hi Gary, I read your newsletters every day.  Thank you.   Having read your article regarding the FARC in Ecuador it boils my blood to read about people making false judgment about a part of the world they know nothing about.

The same can be said for the trouble in Northern Ireland. Since the early 60’s this was said about the safety of tourists etc visiting the Ireland.   I lived 50 miles south of the border between the Northern Ireland & the Republic south.  There was never any trouble south of that  border.  In fact even for that matter 50 miles inside the border. The problems were  almost (not entirely) centered around the Belfast area.   Living at or south of the border there was never anything to worry about.   That’s not to say there were not incidents, but it never affected daily life or business in anyway.

Just like the Colombian & Ecuadorian border.  One incident makes headlines the whole world thinks the entire area is a bad place to visit.

This far from the truth.  Both places Ecuador and Northern Ireland are beautiful places to visit and  live.  I know this to be true. I’ve done both in both places and I cant wait for the day I retire to live in Ecuador south from Ontario Canada.

This reader is so correct. The reality as far as daily life is concerned… the FARC in Ecuador are a non event. I am reminded of a similar situation in Thailand in the late 1960s and early 1970s… the years I lived and worked all over Asia.  Everyone knew that there was a war going on and that it was not safe around the border because the Viet Cong used to cross it freely. The solution was… we avoided the border.  Heck it took a real effort to get to the border anyway. Forget it!  Life went on… busy… happy…. safe… except the crazy Bangkok traffic created enormous risks.

Another reader wrote:

Hello Gary, These houses look very interesting, but isn’t Ibarra near the border with Colombia, where there have been a number of violent incidents?

We do not recommend that readers visit as far north as Carchi which is right on the border, but Ibarra is quite far south of Colombia and does not have border risk.  This map shows why. The white line, starting at San Lorenzo, is the Ecuador Colombia border.

Ibarra-Ecuador

Ibarra, as the map above shows is south of  Carchi Province.  The main towns in Carchi Province, Tulcan, Espejo, Mira and Montufar are shown by the arrows.  Warnings to not to go into Carchi Province are already a stretch.  There are really very few problems there, but the US state departments says:

The US State department says: SAFETY AND SECURITY: The U.S. Embassy in Quito advises caution when traveling to the northern border region of Ecuador, to include areas in the provinces of Sucumbios, Orellana and Carchi, northern Esmeraldas, and southern Esmeraldas, south of Atacames.  U.S. government personnel are under limitations with respect to traveling alone and over-nighting in these areas due to the spread of organized crime, drug trafficking, small arms trafficking, and incursions by various Colombian terrorist organizations.

I personally would not feel uncomfortable in Carchi and have been to Esmeraldas many times… but why go to places that might be a bit riskier when there are so many alternatives.

Our world has increased risk, but…

ecuador-risk

the quiet Ecuador streets like this Cotacachi avenue have never seemed at risk to me.

ecuador-risk

The young Ecuadorian children who go to school early, alone don’t seem to feel much risk.

ecuador-risk

Even young children play alone in the Cotacachi Ecuador streets without much risk

Yet we must always take care… anywhere.

ecuador-risk

Parents in Cotacachi Ecuador do not feel much risk when they let their children play in the parks.

Yet there are places in every town where we should not be… so always be aware.

Mostly, places are not the cause of risk.  The causes of risk  are within,  our awareness, our actions, our  patterns and habits.

ecuador-risk

Young lovers in Ecuador can meet safely in out of the way places.

ecuador-risk

Ecuador people are by nature, caring, friendly and warm.

Sometimes I get letters like the one below from readers who have been victims of crime in Ecuador.  This reader lost her computer and camera when she forgot them in the business lounge at the Radisson hotel in Quito.

Dear Gary,  Can you believe, the Quito police, working with the Radisson hotel, found my  briefcase with the computer and other small items and had them sent by Federal Express to me.  I had provided them with the receipts of all the items stolen, for the items they were not able to send me  (camera and cellular phone) I was reimbursed via bank transfer. I still can’t believe it.  This was a good ending and so unexpected.  send you all love, and good thoughts. Laura

Place is important… wherever you are… almost as important… or at least related to fate. So werever you are… I hope its the right time and the right place… for you.

The Magnificant Seven – Internet Business Opportunities

This is a time to check out internet business opportunities such as the seven business ideas below.

Merri and I enjoy having an international internet business.

internet-success

This recent ranking from Alexa.com shows how our site is in the top 16,000 web sites in America, top 8,000 in Canada and top 500 in Ecuador.  There is more… as you’ll see in pictures below how the recent recession has caused our internet business to grow.  So you can do the same… earn more as others seem to earn less.

Our sales have doubled since the recession began and our list of readers has increased over 100% also.

Knowing the philosophies that we follow to prosper from change can help you invest better and can help you create an internet success if you desire.

The Western economy has changed… probably forever.  The old ways are gone and those who held jobs… or still have work in the private sector have lost the most.

The economy will recover… in numbers yes… but the way people earn and work… and how the money is distributed and to whom especially… has been profoundly altered.  This is especially true in value added countries like Canada… the USA and most of Europe.

Excerpts from a recent New York Times article entitled “After Escaping Jobless Rolls, Trauma May Linger” by Michael Luo helps explain why:

RALEIGH, N.C. — Antje Newby went back to work in September, but she has still not escaped the burden imposed by nine months of unemployment.

Antje Newby, working again, said, “We’ve got financial impact we’re going to deal with forever.”

Tom Newby stays home in part to help his children adjust to their move from in the Detroit area.

Mrs. Newby and her husband were forced to walk away from their home in suburban Detroit and are now living here in a rented house with their three children. They are bracing for a huge tax bill in the spring because of early withdrawals they made on her 401(k) and taxes they still owe on unemployment benefits. Their credit is in tatters, and their 16-year marriage showed cracks they are still trying to repair.

The wound of unemployment, as her family has learned, is not cauterized so quickly, and lives do not simply go back to the way they were.

Interviews with more than a dozen people who were out of work at least a half-year during the recession and have now landed jobs found many adjusting to new realities. Some of the changes are self-imposed; others forced upon them. They include grappling with newfound insecurities and scaled-back budgets; reshaped priorities and broken relationships. In some ways, it is equivalent to the lingering symptoms of post-traumatic stress.

One person interviewed said, “If the rug is pulled out again, I’m not going to survive”.

Another said “We’ve got financial impact we’re going to deal with forever.”

Many of the old rules of employment have been turned upside down. For example in the past people worked for the government for job security but expected lower pay. Now, according to the Cato Institute this has completely flipped and the reversal is growing:

The Bureau of Economic Analysis has released its annual data on compensation levels by industry (Tables 6.2D, 6.3D, and 6.6D here). The data show that the pay advantage enjoyed by federal civilian workers over private-sector workers continues to expand.

The George W. Bush years were very lucrative for federal workers. In 2000, the average compensation (wages and benefits) of federal workers was 66 percent higher than the average compensation in the U.S. private sector. The new data show that average federal compensation is now more than double the average in the private sector.

Yet at the same time there has never been a better time… with greater opportunity, for an internet business… if… you are choose a  business that flourishes with change.

We are in an era of global structural change… in economics… in society and in the way we work because technology brings us low cost administration, low cost access to data, low cost communication, and low cost travel, plus…
the opening of markets beyond logic that rely more on passion and experience than on efficiency and cost.

We looked at these economic and structural changes, and what to do about them in the international investing and business portion of our Quantum Wealth Seminar we conducted in Mt. Dora, Florida last week.

We saw how markets are shifting from materialistic needs to emotional needs.

Love-friendship-control-freedom-tradition-change-big answers-recognition and care are emotional needs that create expanding demand and business opportunity

The next generation is having more involvement in every step of the buying process.

Uniting the body and mind is an emerging market.

Natural physical health, fitness will expand but botox and insulin sales will also grow.

Mental health, retreats and spas prosper.

The health of the planet is becoming a more important business.

There is a shift of emphasis from GDP to GWB  (General Wellness Barometer Happiness Factor)
Business will operate with more passion.

We saw how these shifts create new opportunities for investment and internet business in seven areas.

Currency Distortions
Value Markets
Emerging Markets
Wellness
Water and Alternate Energy
Truth & Cohesion
Ecuador and Smalltown USA Real Estate

I call these seven areas the Magnificent Seven… these are the places where I am looking for opportunity and focusing our efforts now.

This focus has paid off.

This chart from Alexa shows our…

Ecuador Assistance

One great benefit in Ecuador is the wonderful, low cost… but efficient and caring labor.

Success usually requires many forms of assistance.

I was reminded of this when a reader asked this question.

Hi Gary…your article here lists the many properties you have bought, fixed up and sold.   Very intriguing.  Since you are so busy running your publishing business, it is hard to see where you find the time. How do you set it up so you can get the fix-up done the way you want it without lots of “hands-on” time spent at the property making day-by-day decisions?

My reply.

This is a good question and I have to say that at the moment we are stressed on this point. Our business has sort of exploded upwards in the past several years so we have had to create an organization and delegate more than ever before.

We have our publishing business… sales have doubled since the beginning of 2007. We have added 11 rental properties in Ecuador and we went crazy and bought a hotel… which was empty and in pretty bad shape but is now pretty full most of the time and looking very good… more hot water… the best beds in the country and great food.

Plus an incredible staff.

Now we are working on our Florida project also… plus of course keeping our North Carolina farm going.

Here are three tricks I am learning to use as we grow.

First… I personally stick to my priorities… publishing… getting good messages out to our readers…. building our list of readers.

Second… I find good people and leave them alone to do their job… and keep things small, diversified and simple so errors are not fatal.

Here for example is our staff at the hotel.

Our hound Ma provides security and keeps cats away.

Ecuador assistance

Eduardo and Consuelo serve the food better than I ever could.

Ecuador assistance

Here is Franklin… the boss man at Meson de las Flores. He has forgotten more about how to run the hotel than I will ever know. Whenever I have a hair brained scheme, I always check with Franklin first.

Ecuador assistance

Our two Rositas are the …

mothers at Meson.  They clean. They launder. They fix the flowers. They care.

Ecuador assistance

I could never stand the pressure like our two chefs Alberto and Santiago… so I stay out of the kitchen!

Mauritio speaks five languages, looks after the hotel at night and helps Alberto Verdezoto guide our real estate tours.

Plus Richard Goebel…

Lester Pennington and Dempsy keep things shipshape at the farm and help with our selective logging.  Right now they are shoveling snow just to keep the horse fed.

None of this would accomplish much without the carrier of all that we share.. our websites.  For these we depend totally on our webmaster David Cross and some Ecuadorian programmers.  Here is David with our daughter Cinda… his wife… a serendipity that blossomed from the business. David was our webmaster first!

Finally I have to mentioned the countless friends and contacts… attorneys… bankers…accountants… business people… butchers… bakers and candlestick makers who are on hand to answer questions, provide advise and throw in a helping hand as a subcontractor when required.

All have skills in their areas that are way beyond mine and I let them use them.  Nor are they limited to just one job.  Merri and I try to give an overall picture so we all move towards a common goal.  In this group we have accounting, secretarial, electrical, plumbing carpentry, marketing  and each is willing to do what is required towards that goal.. so in a day any one of us might process credit cards, do some computer work or fix a plugged toilet.

My major rule in working with everyone… is that in any and every transaction I look for ways that everyone is rewarded for their help. If I ask a question, I try to figure out how the answer can help the provider of the knowledge… as well as the recipient, The reward is not always immediate… but somehow favors are always returned.  One way I do this is by knowing what I do best and accepting pay only for this… providing information and contacts.  We do not try to make anything on business we send to banks, hotels, real estate brokers, products, travel agents, cruises or whatever and we send people a lot of business.  This means they are happier to assist.

Third, as just mentioned, I try to maintain a vision for all.

How to do that?

Yesterday’s message Ecuador & Electric looked at investing potential in the company Kyocera.

“Kazuo Inamori, founder of Kyocera, fine tunes a point on creating vision in a new book.

Inamori is now 78-years old and is showing no signs of slowing down! I chose to quote him because he is such a great example of creating and sticking to a vision.

Retirement-ecuador

Inamori was born in  Japan and at age 27, he started Kyocera. His company is now a high-tech multinational maker of cellphones, office document equipment, solar power products and ceramic components that employs 66,000.  He founded KDDI in 1984, which is now Japan’s second-largest telecom network.  He is an ordained Zen Buddhist monk. His priest name Dai-wa, means “great harmony.”

Here is an excerpt from a CNBC article,”One CEO’s Story: Do The Right Thing, Always” by Gloria McDonough-Taub that helps show how to reate and stick to a vision.

As Japan Airlines, Asia’s behemoth airline, flies closer to bankruptcy we’re learning more and more about the man tasked with leading the company during the restructuring.  Taking control now is Kazuo Inamori who the WSJ hailed as one of Japan’s “most revered entrepreneurs and management gurus… a man whose biography and style offer a stark contrast to the hidebound managers who have led the troubled airline in the past.”

Mr. Inamori, turns 78 years old next week and has no experience in the airline industry – BUT is considered a national treasure. His is a rags to riches story – one that includes the founding of two blue-chip Japanese companies: electronics component maker Kyocera Corp. and the No. 2 telecommunications carrier KDDI Corp.

He’s also the author of “A Compass to Fulfillment: Passion and Spirituality in Life and Business,” which was a bestseller in Japan.  McGraw-Hill has just published the English-language edition of the book.

In the book he shares his management philosophy weaving together his Buddhist faith and personal experience to create a life/business philosophy based on the simplest but most profound of human concepts: do the right thing, always.

In “A Compass to Fulfillment,” Inamori tries to help you develop your own personal philosophy for success by:

•    Recognizing your deepest desires and using them to create a better reality
•    Informing all decisions with simple truths and principles
•    Elevating your mind and practicing humility
•    Living your life steered by an attitude of selfless service

•    Controlling the trajectory of your life by accepting the “will of the universe”

“A Compass to Fulfillment” is about strategic thinking, but not in the sense of business and management technicalities. It is about, first, understanding yourself, and then using that knowledge to get to the point you want to be— in your career, in your business, and in your life.

I could not have said it better.  Success requires many forms of assistance and anyone creating a vision who uses the principles above is likely to easily find that many want to help.

Cotacachi Condo Studio For Sale

There is a resale in Cotacachi… a top studio in Prima Vera I available for $49,000

This has been the most popular property I have ever seen in Cotacachi… the unit that Merri and I first bought and lived in.

Everybody loved it.  So many people offered to buy it, that we finally gave in and sold it about three years ago.

Why is it so popular?
