Part 5 – Why Half of America Can’t Sleep at Night

Stress can ruin our brain, reduce our thinking and eliminate clear thought.

According to recent research, stress can lead to Alzheimer’s disease, by triggering a degenerative process in your brain and precipitating disruption of your neuroendocrine and immune system.

Huh.

I guess we had better look for a clearer explanation.

stress

An article at Mercola.com (1) shows a relationship between Alzheimer’s Disease and stress.

The article says: researchers found that nearly three out of four Alzheimer’s patients had experienced severe emotional stress during the two years preceding their diagnosis, compared to just over one in four in the control group.

Alzheimer’s disease currently afflicts about 5.4 million Americans, including one in eight people aged 65 and over.

Research suggests that the best hope is in prevention focusing on diet, exercise and staying mentally active.

We should look for ways to reduce stress in every part of our life.

For example we should all have low stress ways to invest.

My low stress system is based on 50 years of global stock market experience matched up with several of Warren Buffet’s quotes.

The first quote is “Only buy something that you’d be perfectly happy to hold if the market shut down for 10 years.”

Our strategy is very long term, but recognizes that Merri and I are well into our 70s.   We focus on balancing our income, bonds, stock investments and shares so we never have to sell shares for liquidity.  This protects us from having to bail out of equities when stock prices are down.

Our system is set so we don’t have to watch the market on a daily, even weekly basis.

There are too many other things to do in the years we have left.

We buy good value and hold it.

As Buffett says:  “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”

“What investors need is an ability to both disregard mob fears or enthusiasms and to focus on a few simple fundamentals.  A willingness to look unimaginative for a sustained period – or even to look foolish – is also essential.”

Our system is really simple, based on value and for much of the time our system also matches up with advice from Buffet’s original value mentor, Benjamin Graham who said:

Investing is buying stocks for less than they are fundamentally worth. This makes sure that you don’t overpay. On the other hand, speculation is trying to predict the timing and nature of uncertain future events. If you are trading frequently, and thinking about dramatic future events rather than the steady plod of past outcomes, then you are probably a speculator.

The problem with speculation is that is it very hard to do because it requires forecasting.

Graham concluded that it is “absurd” for the investor to think he or she will be a successful market forecaster.   After decades of stock investing, I came to the same conclusion.  It was absurd for me to think I could predict the future.

Markets are continually adapting.   History will never exactly repeat itself.  This makes market forecasting  so unlikely to work for most people.   That’s the realization that led me to create an easy way to find value using math and current stock market pricing fundamentals.

Margin of Safety

The idea of a margin of safety is to have a “Cushion to tide you through adversity.” Any company or stock market can hit hard times.  A margin of safety provides an ability to weather a storm without necessarily losing money. The discount an investor gains on purchase is the cushion that makes it harder to lose money.

A margin of safety combined with diversification removes the need for any single investment to be good all the time.  When invested in a number of companies, all with reasonable margins of safety, the end result is likely to be positive.  No single poor investment throws an entire portfolio off track.   There is a better chance that there’s always a good investment available to sell if liquidity is required.

In a way my entire system is a modification of Warren Buffet’s simple advice to the trustee for his wife: “Put 10 percent of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90 percent in very low-cost S&P 500 index fund.”

My system keeps enough liquidity (short term bonds) to handle any immediate short and medium liquidity needs.  The rest goes into real estate and stocks.

The modifications are:

  • We apply value to stock markets instead of stocks.
  • We look at 43 stock markets globally instead of just the US market.
  • We diversify into indexes of good value stock markets instead of good value shares.

This is a low stress system that offers incredible safety and exceptional opportunity without high management fees, excess time spent following markets, or trading costs often associated with stock investing.

We offer a course (The Purposeful Investing Course) on how to create this system.

The system is really easy to use, but hard for me to market because this type of low stress investing is boring!

Most investors want exciting things.  They want activity, promises of fat and fat profits, without risk.  They want an adrenaline rush.

That’s okay, I’ll stick to my guns and keep repeating this fact…  “stress kills.

Boring is good.  If your investments are exciting, you are doing something wrong.

The only real speculation I do is to determine the portfolio’s ratio of top value developed markets versus top value emerging markets.

The United States stock market represents about a third of the world’s market capitalization.  Emerging Markets represent about a quarter.  Investors who hold a world portfolio weighted by market capitalization, have about a fourth of the portfolio in emerging market equities.

I speculate just a bot because an abundance of economic research suggests that a mix of 70% stable and 30% high risk investments usually gives the best risk reward ratio.

I keep between 20% and 30% of my portfolio in emerging markets, but do not finely tune this balance at all.

We use the analysis of Keppler Asset Management to select an equally weighted combination of attractively valued emerging markets that offer the highest expectation of long-term risk-adjusted performance.  This combination makes up 20% to 30% of my portfolio.

The table below shows Keppler’s latest quarterly analysis of the Emerging Markets Top Value Model Portfolio and compares it to the MSCI Emerging Markets Index and to the MSCI World Index as of the end of September 2018, based on selected assets and earnings valuation measures:

keppler

I use this analysis to compare it with Keppler’s Top Value Developed Markets.  Currently the Price to book of developed markets is almost as good as Top Value Developed Markets.  The developed market dividend yield is better than emerging markets and only the emerging P/E ratio is significantly better.

keppler

The emerging markets do not look that much better (in value) than developed markets, so if a buy or sell event appears at this time, I would tend to shift my portfolio weighting down towards 20% emerging markets.

I only do a regular assessment once every three months.   Otherwise , unless there is some significant change in the world, I leave the portfolio alone.  No stress!

Overall, the odds are that my portfolio will outperform the S&P 500 in the years ahead.

The math supports me and it’s a really simple, low stress deal!

At times the portfolio outperforms the S&P 500.  At other times, like now, not.  Here is the performance of my portfolio held at online broker Motif.

motif

At times like this when the US dollar and the S&P 500 are near all time high points, I remember that tidbit of Buffett advice, “Having a willingness to look unimaginative for a sustained period – or even to look foolish – is essential.”

I  look at this time of US dollar strength as a non dollar buying opportunity as I also recall some more of Buffet’s advice:

Look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it. We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.

Our portfolio is simple, low cost, well diversified, and statistically offers the highest change of optimal return in the long run and  perhaps most important of all… is pretty darn free of excitement and stress.

Stress kills.  Stress can eliminate clear thought and cloud our investment thinking.  Stress can make us poor and reduce our quality of life as it destroys our health and well being.

Whether you use the low stress system of investing I have created or not… I urge you to find some low stress way of dealing with your finances.

Look for ways to reduce stress in every aspect of your life.  Your brain will thank you by working better for you longer in your life.

The Only 3 Reasons to Invest

garyheadshot

There are only three reasons why we should invest.  We invest for income.  We invest to resell our investments for more than we had invested.  We invest to make our world a better place.

We should not invest for fun, excitement or to get rich quick, or in a panic due to market corrections.

This is why the core Pi model portfolio (that forms the bulk of my own equity portfolio) consists of 19 shares and this position has not changed in over two years.  During these two years we have been steadily accumulating the same 19 shares and have not traded once.

The portfolio has done well in 2017, up 22.6%, better than the DJI Index.

motif

However one or even two year’s performance is not enough data to create a safe strategy.

The good value portfolio above is based entirely on good value financial information and mathematically based safety programs developed around models that date back 91 and 24 years.

The Pifolio is a theoretical portfolio of MSCI Country Benchmark Index ETFs that cover all the good value markets developed combining my 50 years of investing experience with study of the mathematical market value analysis of Keppler Asset Management and the mathematical trend analysis of Tradestops.com.

In my opinion, Keppler is one of the best market statisticians in the world.  Numerous very large fund managers, such as State Street Global Advisers, use his analysis to manage over $2.5 billion of funds.

The Pifolio analysis begins with Keppler who continually researches international major stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  He compares each major stock market’s history.

Fwd: keppler

Michael Kepler CEO Keppler Asset Management.

Michael is a brilliant mathematician.  We have tracked his analysis for over 20 years.   He continually researches international major stock markets and compares their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  He compares each stock market’s history.  From this, he develops his Good Value Stock Market Strategy and rates each market as a Buy, Neutral or Sell market.  His analysis is rational, mathematical and does not cause worry about short term ups and downs.  Keppler’s strategy is to diversify into an equally weighted portfolio of the MSCI Indices of each BUY market.

This is an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value because little time, management and guesswork is required.  You are investing in a diversified portfolio of good value indices.

A BUY rating for an index does NOT imply that any stock in that country is an attractive investment, so you do not have to spend hours of research aimed at picking specific shares.  It is not appropriate or enough to instruct a stockbroker to simply select stocks in the BUY rated countries.  Investing in the index is like investing in all the shares in the index.  You save time because all you have to do is invest in the ETF to gain the profit potential of the entire market.

To achieve this goal of diversification the Pifolio consists of Country Index ETFs.

Country Index ETFs are similar to an index mutual fund but are shares normally traded on a major stock exchange that tracks an index of shares in a specific country.  ETFs do not try to beat the index they represent.  The management is passive and tries to emulate the performance of the index.

A country ETF provides diversification into a basket of equities in the country covered.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund as well so such ETFs provide diversification and cost efficiency.

Here is the Pifolio I personally use.

70% is diversified into Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) developed markets: Australia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Norway, Singapore, Spain and the United Kingdom.

30% of the Pifolio is invested in Keppler’s good value (BUY rated) emerging markets: Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, the Czech Republic, South Korea, Malaysia and Taiwan.

iShares Country ETFs make it easy to that invest in each of the MSCI indicies of the good value BUY markets.

For example, the iShares MSCI Australia (symbol EWA) is a Country Index ETF that tracks the investment results the Morgan Stanley Capital Index MSCI Australia Index which is composed mainly of large cap and small cap stocks traded primarily on the Australian Stock Exchange mainly of companies in consumer staples, financials and materials. This ETF is non-diversified outside of Australia.

iShares is owned by Black Rock, Inc. the world’s largest asset manager with over $4 trillion in assets under management.

There is an iShares country ETF for every market.

Pi uses math to reveal the best value markets then protects its positions using more math created by Richard Smith founder and CEO of Tradestops.com to track each share’s trend.

We use Smith’s  algorithms that calculate momentum of the good value markets.

dr richard smith

The Stock State Indicators at Tradestops.com act as a full life-cycle measure that indicates the health of each stock. They are designed to tell you at a glance exactly where any stock stands relative to Dr. Smith’s proprietary algorithms.

Kepppler’s analysis shows the value of markets.  The SSI signal indicates the current trend of each stock (performing well, or in a period of correction, or stopped out).

The SSI tells you one of five things:

Screen Shot 2017-08-08 at 6.51.59 AM

Screen Shot 2017-08-08 at 6.52.12 AM

Screen Shot 2017-08-08 at 6.52.22 AM

Akey component of the Stock State Indicator (SSI) system is momentum based on the latest 521 days of trading.  A stock changes from red to green in the SSI system only after it has already gone up a healthy amount and has started a solid uptrend.

How SSI Alerts Are Triggered

If the position has already moved more than its Volatility Quotient below a recent high, the SSI Stop Loss will trigger.  This is an indicator that the position has corrected more than what is normal for this stock.  It means to take caution.

Below is an example of how SSIs work.  This example shows the Developed Market Pifolio that we track at Tradestops.com.

tradestops

Equal Weight Good Value Developed Market Pifolio.

At the time this example was copied, all the ETFs in the Developed Market Pifolio (above) currently had a green SSI.

We do not know when the US market will fall.  We only do know that it will.  We also do not know if, when the US market corrects, global markets will follow or rise instead.

The fact that the Pifilios are invested in good value markets reduces long term risk.

Additional protection is added by using trailing stops based on the 521 day momentum of each stock in the Pifolio.

Take for example the graph below from our Tradestops account that shows the iShares MSCI United Kingdom ETF.  This ETF had a green SSI and a Volatility Index (VQ) of 13.26%.  This means the share can move 13.26% before there is a trend shift.

tradestops

iShares MSCI United Kingdom ETF (Symbol EWU)

Pi purchased the share at$31.26 and in this example the share was $34.43 and rising.  Tradestop’s algorithms suggested that if the price drops to $31.69 its momentum would have stopped and it would have shifted into trading sideways.   The stop loss price is currently $29.86.  If EWU continues to rise, both the yellow warning and the stop loss price will rise as well.

When the US stock market bull ends, know one knows for sure how long or how severe the correction will be.

When the bear arrives, what will happen to global and especially good value markets?

No  one knows the answer to this question.

What we do know is that the equally weighted, good value market Pifolios have the greatest potential long term and that math based trailing stops can be used to protect against a secular global stock market correction when it comes.

My fifty years of global investing experience helps take advantage of numerous long term cycles that are part of the universal math that affects all investments.

You also receive two special reports.

In the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffett explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said:  Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

I did well then, but always thought, “I should have invested more!”  Now those circumstances have come together and I am investing in them again.

The circumstances that created fortunes 30 years ago were an overvalued US market (compared to global markets) and an overvalued US dollar.  The two conditions are in place again!

30 years ago, the US dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern is growing and could create up to 50% extra profit if we start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I have created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but included links to 153 pages of  Good Value Stock Market research and Asset Allocation Analysis.

The report shows 20 good value investments and a really powerful tactic that shows the most effective and least expensive way to accumulate these bargains in large or even very small amounts (less than $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

This report sells for $29.95 but in this special offer, you receive the report, “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

Plus get the $39.95 report “The Platinum Dip 2018” free.

With investors watching global stock markets bounce up and down, many missed two really important profit generating events over the last two years.  The price of silver dipped below $14 an ounce as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).   The second event is that the silver gold ratio hit 80, compared to a ratio of 230 only two years before.

In September 2015, I prepared a special report “Silver Dip 2015” about a silver speculation, leveraged with a British pound loan, that could increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The tactics described in that report generated 62.48% profit in just nine months.

I have updated this report and added how to use the Dip Strategy with platinum.   The “Platinum Dip 2018” report shares the latest in a series of long term lessons gained through 40 years of speculating and investing in precious metals.  I released the 2015 report, when the gold silver ratio slipped to 80.  The ratio has corrected and that profit has been taken and now a new precious metals dip has emerged.

I have prepared a new special report “Platinum Dip 2018” about a leveraged speculation that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.

You also learn from the Value Investing Seminar, our premier course, that we have been conducting for over 30 years.  Tens of thousands of delegates have paid up to $999 to attend.  Now you can join the seminar online FREE in this special offer.

This three day course is available in sessions that are 10 to 20 minutes long for easy, convenient learning.   You can listen to each session any time and as often as you desire.

The sooner you hear what I have to say about current markets, the better you’ll be able to cash in on perhaps the best investing opportunity since 1982.

seminars

Tens of thousands have paid up to $999 to attend.

In 2018 I celebrate my 52nd anniversary in the investing business and 50th year of writing about global investing.  Our reports and seminars have helped readers have better lives, with less stress yet make fortunes during up and down markets for decades.  This information is invaluable to investors large and small because even small amounts can easily be invested in the good value shares we cover in our seminar.

Stock and currency markets are cyclical.  These cycles create extra profit for value investors who invest when everyone else has the markets wrong.  One special seminar session looks at how to spot value from cycles.  Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics.  Cycles create recurring profits.  Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 to 20 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns can create war.

The chart above shows the war – stock market cycle.  Military struggles (like the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the Cold War: WW III) super charge inventiveness that creates new forms of productivity…the steam engine, the internal combustion engine,  production line processes, jet engines, TV, farming techniques, plastics, telephone, computer and lastly during the Cold War, the internet.  The military technology shifts to domestic use.  A boom is created that leads to excess.  Excess leads to correction. Correction creates an economic downturn and again to war.

Details in the online seminar include:

* How to easily buy global currencies, shares and bonds.

* Trading down and the benefits of investing in real estate in Small Town USA.  We will share why this breakout value is special and why we have been recommending good value real estate in this area since 2009.

* What’s up with gold and silver?  One session looks at my current position on gold and silver and asset protection.  We review the state of the precious metal markets and potential problems ahead for US dollars.  Learn how low interest rates eliminate  opportunity costs of diversification in precious metals and foreign currencies.

* How to improve safety and increase profit with leverage and staying power.  The seminar reveals Warren Buffett’s value investing strategy from research published at Yale University’s website.  This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios). His big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of out performance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio, the better the odds of outstanding success.

Learn how much leverage to use.  Leverage is like medicine, the key is dose.  The best ratio is normally 1.6 to 1.  We’ll sum up the strategy; how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on the times and each individual’s circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

The online seminar also reveals  the results of a $80,000 share purchase cost test that found the least expensive way to invest in good value.  The keys to this portfolio are good value, low cost, minimal fuss and bother.  Plus a great savings of time.  Trading is minimal, usually not more than one or two shares are bought or sold in a year.  I wanted to find the very least expensive way to create and hold this portfolio so I performed this test.

I have good news about the cost of the seminar as well.   For almost three decades the seminar fee has been $799 for one or $999 for a couple. Tens of thousands paid this price, but online the seminar is $297.

Turmeric, Brain Health & More

Turmeric is a spice I try to eat each day.  Turmeric is inexpensive, easy to use, and enhances many delicious recipes, plus has profound health benefits.

Turmeric helps avoid weigh gain, improves natural purification,  can help fight cancer and now has shown up as a soldier in the battle against Alzheimer’s and dementia.

frontier turmeric

Turmeric is the friend of our livers and a healthy liver is vital to our overall good health!

Turmeric is the friend of our livers and a healthy liver is vital to our overall good health!

The importance of our liver is described by Dr. Stephen T. Chang in his book “The Tao of Balanced Diet”. Chang wrote that we live in a toxic world with no hope of immediate change so we cannot avoid toxins all the time for as long as we live.  “

We must thank God for giving us livers for our livers are toxin filters and detoxifiers, without which we cannot live.

He goes so far as to suggest eating junk food once in awhile to temper the liver.  He wrote:  “Living strictly on pure foods in pure environments can weaken the liver’s ability to tolerate toxins, a single exposure can be fatal.”

Scientific studies shows another benefit of turmeric.

A recent article “Turmeric’s ‘Smart Kill’ Properties Put Chemo & Radiation To Shame” tells about a  study published in the journal, Anticancer Research, that finds turmeric extract selectively and safely killing cancer stem cells in a way that chemo and radiation cannot.

The research was looking at natural compounds for cancer treatment and polyphenol, known as curcumin, has the ability to selectively target cancer stem cells, which are at the root of cancer’s growth.  The good news is that curcumin has little to no toxicity on normal stem cells.

Now turmeric has been shown to help the brain and even reduce the effects of Alzheimer’s!

There are still no mainstream medical protocols for Alzheimer’s, but turmeric can be used to target and ease symptoms.

Turmeric’s main active compound, curcumin has been shown to battle some of Alzheimer’s worst symptoms.

Studies suggest that turcumin can help destroy the plaques in the brain called “amyloid beta” that are believed to cause the confusion, paranoia and severe memory loss.

Plus turmeric appears to help improve memory and sharp thinking even for those who do not have any brain imbalances, such as Alzheimer’s.

This delicious spice could give us a jump start in heading off any type of dementia.

Research shows that people who eat turmeric daily suffer less Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, even when they are very long lived.

There are a few tricks to using Turmeric.  Fortunately the tips lead to delicious meals and help you avoid the cost of turmeric supplements.  Here is a not on how to best use turmeric sent to us by our friend, Blaine Watson who lived many years in India where turmeric is a most common spice.

A diet high in turmeric may help reduce weight gain by suppressing the growth of new fat tissue, according to a study conducted by researchers from Tufts University and published in the Journal of Nutrition.

“Weight gain is the result of the growth and expansion of fat tissue, which cannot happen unless new blood vessels form, a process known as angiogenesis,” senior author,  Mohsen Meydani said. “Based on our data, curcumin appears to suppress angiogenic activity in the fat tissue of mice fed high fat diets.

“Curcumin is an antioxidant chemical in the polyphenol family that naturally occurs in turmeric.  In contrast to some phytochemicals, it is easily absorbed by the body.

Researchers fed two groups of mice identical high-fat diets, supplementing the diets of the half the mice with 500 milligrams of curcumin per kilogram of body weight per day.  They found that mice in the curcumin group had significantly lower blood cholesterol and significantly less microvessel density in fat tissue than the mice in the control group, implying less blood vessel growth and thus less overall growth of fat tissue.

I wanted to remind everyone  that turmeric is to be used with some degree of awareness.  Never eat it raw. Cook it in food. Capsules are therefore not an option.  Use only organic turmeric.  The regular turmeric you buy for example in an Indian store is heavily adulterated with chalk and talcum powder and food coloring.

Use turmeric sparingly. I t is highly, highly effective in purifying the liver. The North American/Western diet and lifestyle is highly toxic with many many sources of impurities which are metabolized and stored in the liver.  When turmeric is introduced to the diet these toxins/impurities are squeezed from the liver (this would be a contributing factor to weight loss) and this is a good thing but not if it is overwhelming to the body.  Detox crisis is a real possibility.

A gentle and universal curry for western palates would be something like:

3 parts powdered coriander

3 parts powdered fennel

1-2 parts powdered cumin

1-2 parts turmeric

Another way to maintain mental clarity is to always be learning something new!

Learn Spanish in Three Days ONLINE

The “Learn Spanish in Three Day Course” is now available online.

Read below to see why we are offering our Super Spanish course online for the first time.

Speaking Spanish is a huge benefit on its own.  You can become one of the rare North Americans who can get along in Spanish speaking countries.  You can be one of the special people who can communicate with 10 million non-English speakers in the USA.  Spanish is the second most used language in the USA.  There are more Spanish speakers than speakers of Chinese, French, German, Italian, Hawaiian, and the Native American languages combined.  According to the Census Bureau, Spanish is the primary language of nearly 50 million people in the US.  This is the largest Spanish-speaking community outside of Mexico. Only half of these speakers also speak English “very well,” and 19% do not speak Spanish at all.

You can tap into all this potential when you speak Spanish.  Yet there are more benefits.

An article in England’s leading newspaper, the Telegraph, entitled “Why learn a foreign language? Benefits of bilingualism” (1) sum up the biggest benefit of learning a second language and increased intelligence.  The article says: “Learning a foreign language is more than just a boost to your CV or handy for traveling.  It will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English.  Physiological studies have found that speaking two or more languages is a great asset to the cognitive process.  The brains of bilingual people operate differently than single language speakers, and these differences offer several mental benefits.”

The article then explains studies that show seven cognitive advantages gained from learning a foreign language.

#1:  You become smarter
#2:  You build multitasking skills
#3:  You stave off Alzheimer’s and dementia
#4:  Your memory improves
#5:  You become more perceptive
#6:  Your decision-making skills improve
#7:  You improve your English

Does it sound impossible to learn Spanish in three days?  Yes, it is impossible when you try to learn Spanish in the old, traditional way.

Though you may choose to take more time using this course to learn Spanish, thousands of our readers have learned at our Spanish courses.

There is a scientific method of learning… proven and described in numerous best selling books that create educational jumps by making education natural, easy and fun.   This course works because it is education without stress!

This method was created and refined by the Bulgarian educational master, Georgi Lozanov, who transformed the entire Soviet educational system to such a degree that this third world country beat the USA into space.

Merri was lucky to be one of a handful of students outside of Bulgaria who were allowed to be taught this system in the early 70s.  She practiced this unique and remarkable form of education for  four decades. It was a delight!

Merri and I began integrating these techniques with other shamanic and educational tactics we had gained in our global travels and then applied them to teach Spanish in three days.

The course has been proven again and again by the thousands who have used this system.  You can read a few of the many raves we have received from delegates who have learned from the Super Thinking Spanish course we created.

Here are a few quotes from delegates of the course.

One delegate from St. Louis wrote:  Hi Gary,  Just ended forty-five years in dentistry last week, and I’m on to a new career.  What is my new career?  Still formulating, but the eye -opening,mind expanding Super-Spanish course last weekend in St. Louis surely shows me the opportunity exists to expand my horizons.

Besides having a lot of nice people to learn our new language; the methods Merri and you developed proved to be just what you said they would be.  We all and I in particular relaxed our way to new learning.  I feel so very comfortable with the basis of my new language skills that I know I will be spitting out great Spanish sentences by the time I reach Ecuador in October.  Last year I spent six weeks in Ecuador and now I plan on conversing with the people.

Today’s excerpt of your newsletter really hit home. You do what you say you will. There are no surprises or hidden sales tricks. The only tricks are beneficial to our learning.  Thank you for a wonderful experience that I was quite unable to grasp how you would pull it off.  You did, however, and I look forward to other courses that you offer, and I have absolutely no doubt they also will work beneficially.  Best regards, Denis Molloy.

Another wrote about the Super Spanish course:   Buenos Dias, here is a testimonial for Super Thinking-Super Spanish.  Please feel free to use all or part in promotions for the course.  In addition, you may give my email address to any prospect “on the fence” about enrolling.  Yesterday, in Cotacachi, Ecuador, I finished Super Spanish.  I had high expectations for the course and they were exceeded.

After three days, I can speak Spanish in complete sentences. In simple conversations, such as buying groceries or ordering a meal, I can make myself understood. I think that’s incredible!

Although I am far from the competence level of a native speaker, I feel I’ve taken a giant step forward in learning Spanish so that I can experience the people and culture of Ecuador.  The foregoing benefits would have more than justified the time and money I invested in Super Spanish.  And learning some Spanish was not the most important benefit I got from the course.

Prior to leaving the USA, I had felt for some time that the pace of life there was unhealthy for me (and for most people) and I did nothing about it.

I’ve thought about the pace issue during the course.  One of the key elements Merri Scott designed into Super Spanish is placing the student in the optimal state for learning.  In class, the past three days, I’ve been re-introduced to guided journeys and introduced to the calming effects of Baroque music (www.sundaybaroque.org).  What a blessing! I’m inclined to make one or both a daily part of my life.   Rob Christi.  Cotacachi, Ecuador

Another attendee from a course wrote:   “I took this incredible class a few weeks ago, and I would like to tell anyone that is interested, that it is an amazing three days of learning with lots of laughs included. You leave everyday wanting to learn more and are so excited to do so.

“Other Spanish classes and tutoring made us feel like it would take forever to get to the point where we could put it into practice, but this method gave us a more fluent use for everyday life almost immediately AND the confidence to use it.  It is a fantastic way to show people how much they know and give confidence to learn and use Spanish creating a momentum.

“They made learning Spanish easy and fun in a very relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.  I would definitely recommend this course.  Even if you know some Spanish, this helps make it easier because of the less stress that no verb conjugations gives you.  This gives you more confidence in yourself to try and speak it more.

“The stress free atmosphere and tons of interaction and participation were very conducive to learning.  The relaxation techniques alone are worth the price.  The fact that I can now feel more comfortable conversing in Spanish with my new friends and neighbors is priceless.  Muchas, muchas gracias.”

“I loved the relaxed environment.  I picked up quite a lot of new vocabulary.  I found this course very informative about how the language works, how I can make sentences and understand others better!  Muchas Gracias!  I had a call from Telcel (the local phone company) after our second class and I was able to speak and understand them for the first time. Despacio (meaning slowly) … a great word!  Everyone should take this course before they pick up bad habits.”

“I liked how simply the course was organized and the positive attitude about learning.  Thank you so much for helping me to learn Spanish!”

“I liked the laid back yet professional approach.  I highly recommend this new, relaxing method of learning Spanish,  I feel a lot more confident in the delivery of my words and sentences. It was taught in an excellent and very professional way.

“It was a very enjoyable class.”

How The Course Works

The first tactic is to use Baroque music in the learning process.  At least three best selling books, “Superlearning”, the “Mozart Effect” and “Superlearning 2000” have revealed insights about how to learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian educational master, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.  Merri Scott was among just a few who learned directly from Lozanov.

The second tactic uses 17 unique lessons to provide Spanish fluency in a short time.   Let me prove to you how this tactic works by teaching you hundreds of Spanish words in less than 30 seconds.

Here is the proof.

“Most words in English that end in ION are almost identical, just pronounced differently.  For example action is accion, education-educacion, manipulation- manipulacion, etc.”

There you have it.  How long did it take you to read the sentence?  You now know hundreds of Spanish words that you will never forget.

See examples of the words you already know below.

How long would have taken you to memorize all those words?  How soon would you have forgotten them?

This is just one of seventeen Spanish lessons in the course.

The next lesson teaches how to pronounce each of the nouns.

Then, the third lesson teaches almost as many verbs, almost as quickly.

The fourth lesson shows how to avoid conjugating verbs by sticking with the infinitive (far easier than it sounds).  This simple lesson leaves a person sounding like a Spanish professor without ever conjugating a verb.

Lesson five shows how to sound infinitely polite and yet get almost anything desired in Spanish.

Lesson six gives valuable connectors and the seventh lesson triples the Spanish capacity with three words for “yesterday,” “now” and “tomorrow”.

By the end of three days you feel comfortable speaking Spanish.

Plus the system is Impro-Dynamic.  This means your Spanish keeps getting better even though you do not seem to be studying… practicing… or speaking Spanish.

I was amazed by this as I traveled back and forth from the USA to Ecuador.  The longer I was away from Ecuador… the better my Spanish became.  My second language was automatically improving The self improving feature comes because you learn to create Spanish sentences rather than remember them.  The portion of the brain that creates is more powerful than the portion that recalls.  When your mind creates something… it owns it!  You do not have to remember .

During the course you learn 4005 Spanish words that you already know .

You then learn how to create Spanish sentences from these words.

Throughout the course you learn how to pronounce the sentences you create.

When the course ends… the mind keeps working… and creating… so next time you begin to speak Spanish you’ll be surprised .  You improve even though you have not actively worked on your lingual skill.

Due to the difficulty of getting groups together to learn this valuable technique, we created an online program for subscribers to use the Super Spanish course at home.   This is available at the highly reduced price of $79.

I’ll be in touch personally via email with each person who signs up for this course to see how it works or what is required to make it better.  Once this test is complete, we plan to offer the program on a larger scale and at a much higher price.

The ONLINE course has our, full satisfaction or money back, guarantee.  Try Super Spanish for 60 days.  If not fully satisfied, simply let us know for a full refund.

Most Feared Disease

What do American’s fear most?

The Marist Institute for Public Opinion (MIPO), a survey research center that conducts polls on politics, the economy, sports and health, found that Alzheimer’s is the most feared disease in America.

This fear may be due to the fact that there is no specific cure.  The escape for now is prevention.

Here’s what to do about this problem.

cbs news

An alzinfo.org article “7 ways to reduce Alzheimer’s” (1) shows five health imbalances and two social problems that are associated with increased Alzheimer’s risk.

The five health imbalances are:  Diabetes – High blood pressure – Obesity – Depression – Smoking.

One social problem the article says is:  Low education levels and lack of mental stimulation:  There’s good evidence that few years of formal education may increase the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Mental stimulation – whether it’s doing crossword puzzles, learning a new language or playing a musical instrument – may help lower Alzheimer’s risk, It’s possible that mental stimulation may enhance connections between brain cells and build up so-called brain reserve. As a result, if some brain cells are destroyed by Alzheimer’s, enough remain to delay the onset of symptoms.

The authors found that these seven risk factors may contribute to as many as half of Alzheimer’s disease cases worldwide.

Lack of exercise remained the most important risk factor in the United States so here are links to three articles that show start up exercises that are so easy, they won’t seem like work art all.

#1:  Anti Neuroglycopenia exercise

#2:  Three simple steps for mental clarity

Here’s a way to increase your mental stimulation and make learning Spanish EZ.

Legends & Success With Nutrition

Anceint lesson can help us have success with nutrition.

While in Finland, Merri and I were introduced to Kalevala, an epic of Finland. The root of the Kalevala is mainly old folk poetry collected over decades by the celebrated scholar, Dr. Elias Lonnrot.

He took many trips in the mid 1800s from Helsinki to isolated villages in the north of Finland and Russia to record by dictation the ancient rune singers and masters of folk incantations and lyrical poems. From these mystic tales, lyric folk poems, wedding poems and incantations, he organized this epic which first appeared in 1835.

The Kalevala tells of a great wise man Vainamoinen, who was a rune singer and leader of his tribe and his friend Ilmarenen a blacksmith who forged the vault of heaven. There was also Lemminkainen, a lady-killer and reckless adventurer, Joukahainene, a Lapp wizard’s apprentice, Kullervo, the son of a slave and strong woman such as Louhi. Part of the story isbuilt on a wonderful singing duel between Joukahainene and Vainamoinen(which becomes a cause for revenge).

If you read this epic you’ll see some remarkable similarities to other ancient scripts.
For example Aino, the virgin of the air, is a divine being who gives birth to Vainamoinen. There is a resurrection in the story when Lemminkainen’s mother brings him back to life with her love.

Reading passages from the Kalevala helped me connect some dots about how to succeed in business as well as other aspects of life.

What were these poems intended to do? Imagine what it meant to be a wiseman five thousand years ago. These ancestors had enormous wisdom but lacked the technology of printing. Sites ranging from the great pyramids in Egypt, Stonehenge in England, the Mayan astronomical sites to Ingapirca in the Andes show that ancients knew the movements of planets and stars to the second. The monuments they built attest to their amazing engineering acumen.

They also understood the quantum science of fractals, (as above, so below). They observed and predicted with great accuracy laws of quantum physics without the aid of microscopes, particle accelerators andsuch. Yet how could they pass this knowledge along?

Mostly the sages wrapped their universal truths in legend, songs and runes. The ancients were wise enough to understand the nature of man. They knew that tunes and rhymes have amazing bonds in our memory!

What better way to pass important information down!

But in what language? Language, context and meaning change as generations pass.

With this thinking, I read this phrase from the Kalevala translated to English.

“Then she spoke the words which follow, And expressed herself in this wise: “O thou bee, thou bird aerial, Fly thou forth again the third time, Fly thou up aloft to heaven, And through the nine heavens fly thou swiftly.”

Many ancient traditions mention the trinity and suggest we are comprised of three elements, air, water and fire.

Here the phrase says, O thou bee aerial. Could this mean you are air. Everything begins with gas or air. For example two gases, (Hydrogen and Oxygen) H2O make water and our solid physical form is mostly water.

The bio electric-magnetic system (fire) that kindles transformation (food to energy, energy to bones, muscle and motion etc.) completes the trinity.

So could the message in the Kalevala be that we should begin everything (including our health regimen) by looking at its lightest, air aspect? This is where all the indigenous life sciences begin, looking at the essence of motion or air in our bodies.

In Ayurveda, the Indian science of life, for example this air element is called Vata and the belief is that all illness begins with an air imbalance.
Ayurved’s main tactic is to keep the gaseous content in our bodies down so we are less likely to become ill. The main way to do this is to eat properly.

The Andeans are fanatical about good digestion also.
Their entire diet is aimed at making digestion easier by avoiding fermentation in the stomach, which creates gas (or too much air).

The philosophy is that such imbalances (if uncorrected) lead to digestive problems. If still uncorrected, digestive problems lead to kidney and liver stress (due to excess toxins created by the poor digestion). The theory goes that if still left unbalanced skin problems follow, as the body tries to evacuate excess toxins through the skin.

If still unchecked, these toxins finally lodge in the body and create real illness. If the toxins lodge in the joints, arthritis and joint type problems can follow. Toxins lodged in the blood vessels, artery and heart ailments can begin. In other places the toxins create cancer and varies other illnesses. In the brain, Alzheimer’s, etc.

There are a variety of easy ways to stop such problems before they start.  Here is a list of easy things to do to improve health.

#1: Eat slowly and in good humor. This is the first line aid to digestion.

#2: Eat natural foods in season. Processed foods, especially those loaded with preservatives, are harder to digest. There are  three growing seasons in each year, spring, summer and fall-winter.  We should have three diets that vary through the year, low calorie-low fat in spring, high carbohydrate in summer and high protein-high-fat in fall-winter. This creates a food supply that fits the body’s requirements as it shifts to adapt to each of these seasons.

The idea is to switch our eating routines naturally.  At the beginning of the switch it’s a good idea to do a bit of internal cleansing at the change of each eating season.

#3: Eat your largest meal at lunch. Eat a light early dinner. Our digestive fires burn brightest between 10 and 2, am and pm. Noon is the best time to digest food. If you eat lightly in the evening, the body’s second digestive period can burn up toxins accumulated from the stress of the day rather than just using this period to digest a big dinner.

#4: Watch the combination of foods eaten. Do not mix two types of fat in a meal. We have all heard of not mixing milk and meat for example. In the Andes Locro (a thick potato soup) is a popular common food. Most people there have it with cheese and avocados, but not the shamans. Mixing these two fats make each harder to digest.

Andeans also avoid mixing sugar and salt. Each meal there is a sweet meal or savory meal. Food is broken into three categories, sweet, neutral and salt. Neutral foods (eggs, unsalted cheese, vegetables, and grains) go with either sweet or salt, but not sweet and salt in the same meal. Several foods should always be eaten alone, bananas, pineapple and melon.

#5: Avoid cold drinks and ice. Cold restricts the blood vessels in the stomach and hinders digestion. Sip warm water instead. This calms air and stimulates digestion.

#6: Take a short leisurely walk after each meal. This stimulates bloodflow and aids digestion.

#7: Reduce caffeine and alcohol. These elements interfere with blood sugar levels and upset the digestive process.

These seven simple steps can dramatically improve your energy, well-being and longevity. They are easy to attain and are balanced steps that can bring more balance in our lives.
