Happy Oops… New Year

Here’s one way to get a good start in the new year.  Let my 2009 error make you a hero in 2010.

Sometimes… no matter how much experience… there are ways to screw up…  as I recently did.

See below how this mistake can not only bring extra cheer to you in 2010… but can help you gain wealth… better health… asset protection and make you a hero (or heroine as the case may be) as well.  Plus save you some cash as well!

First let me share how rosy our holiday has been… filled with Ecuador roses.   (Roses like this will be part of your heroship because in a minute you’ll see how to get an Ecuador rose bouquet absolutely free…. exactly at the most important time.)

We received 100 roses… we had ordered 50 and a kind reader sent us 50 more. Thank you Barry!  After sharing, we still had a number of wonderful bouquets around the house.

Some have become wilted by now.

Though they are not so great on the stems… they still look good on…

The pinks really held up and remain in our kitchen.

These roses lasted nine days because we care for them. Instructions are included when you get Ecuador roses.

Other good ones have regrouped into a New Year’s bouquet standing in our living room.

Readers loved their Ecuador roses as well.

One wrote:  Just wanted to send a note about the roses. They are breathtaking. We cannot believe just how beautiful they are. Arrival was exactly on schedule, again they are perfect. We got them for our own house, which is an Assisted Living Facility for the Developmentally Disabled, six men with mental challenges live here with us. But the roses are so lovely we are allowing them to take some to their families. We want to thank you and yours for sharing with us such a lovely gift.  Makes us want to move even more.   You will definitely be getting more orders in the future from us AND our friends.

Now let me confess… my screw up.  Then we’ll share two great benefits (an Ecuador rose gift and more) that this error can bring to you.

Merri and I have been conducting seminars for over 30 years.

In that time we have learned many lessons.  For example…  one important lesson is… do not conduct a seminar anywhere near Christmas, Easter or Valentine’s Day.

So what did I do for 2010?

Before I admit everything, please let me mitigate this screw up by saying that scheduling these events is not the easiest task in the world.

One has to take into account US holidays, Canadian holidays…. Ecuadorian holidays… religious holidays of all sorts… what one’s competitors are doing, what our friends at Jyske Bank are doing plus in 2010 we have a Cotswold wedding to factor in  (our youngest daughter is to be married… yea!) as well.

Plus our business has really boomed.   By last October, when we normally schedule our seminars for the year ahead…  I was already being bombarded with requests for a 2010 schedule.

What more can I say.  I simply goofed under pressure and set up our first ever expanded Quantum Wealth International Business & Investing seminar for Feb. 11-14  in Mt. Dora, Florida.

In other words this course’s schedule is not near… not close… but right on Valentine’s Day.  I shudder!

Plus once our schedule is set and reservations come in…the dates are pretty well set in stone.  In the last 30 years or so I have missed a seminar only twice… once when my dad died and once last year when my mother had a serious illness. (She has recovered really nicely thank you very much).

If Merri, our kids and my mom (plus me of course) are breathing and are likely to continue to do so for a week… then our seminars are conducted!

So I realized: “I had to turn lemons into lemonade.”

I had to create a Valentine’s celebration as part of our February seminar.

I have done this in three ways so here is what I am going to do for you…. to make you a Valentine’s hero!

If you attend our course this February 11 to 14  and bring your partner! I’ll give you a bouquet of beautiful Ecuador roses to enjoy at the seminar.  If your spouse does not come, you can take the roses home… The course ends about noon so you can get back home on Valentine’s Day, and with some of the nicest roses you can imagine, to say “Happy Valentine’s Day”!

You’ll be a Valentine’s hero!

Yet there are two more great Valentine’s treats in the works… that will make you a Hero with a capital H.   We’ll see these other benefits in a moment.

First, let me describe the benefits (beyond being a Valentine HERO) of attending the seminar.

The seminar begins in Mt. Dora (about an hour from Orlando airport) Thursday February 11 with “Quantum Wealth” a one day workshop conducted before our regular Florida International Investing & Business Made EZ seminar.

This workshop helps you learn how to attain wealth continuously, effortlessly, in a fulfilling, enjoyable and positive way.  This workshop will help you stop worrying about money, bad governments, the falling dollar… inflation and all the future other horribles. Quantum Wealth reduces stress… improves health and helps income to flow from doing what you love.

We have been incorporating the ideas of Quantum Health and Quantum Wealth into our courses and seminars for decades… but our  February 2010 Florida schedule made it possible to devote an entire day to this portion of the course.

International-Investments

Delegates enjoy coming to our home during the “Quantum Wealth – International Business & Investing Seminars” Here is a group at our North Carolina home.

The foundation of Quantum Wealth is to integrate:

* Logic with intuition.  The benefit is increased prosperity from better adaptation to change.

* Desire with action.  The benefit is more enjoyment and fulfillment from life.

* Good health with everlasting wealth. The benefit is reduction of stress, more energy and feeling better.

Join us here, this February at…

emp-terrorst-attack

our new Florida home…where we will enjoy a Valentine’s Day celebration.

Bringing delegates to our home for a home cooked meal is an example of a quantum wealth benefit.

This is fun.

Yet there is more.  This process helps delegates hear, see and feel the authentic reality of the ideas we share.  We do not spout ivory tower, unattainable theory.  Our seminars share what we do… how we live… and how we have developed our lifestyle. Our mission is to help you see what we do, so you can blend our lessons into a lifestyle that is better… happier… richer…easier for you.

I have never heard of other seminars offering this… an integration of what we speak about with our actual “at home” lifestyle.

Here are the 21 main points we cover in our one day Quantum Wealth Workshop.

#1: Quantum mechanics & frequency how they all connect.

#2: Three aspects of being – air – fire – water… how to balance and integrate them.

#3: Three ways to integrate brain waves and be in the zone… 60 cycle sound… L- theanine and meditation.

#4: The Andean – Indian Connection. How Ayurved and Andean relate.  Three fundamentals of longevity. Eat right, work hard and sleep well. Nutrition, exercise and purpose.

#5: How dis-ease develops and is stopped.

#6: Nutritional goals: Improve digestion, avoid dis-ease here first.

#7: How to use cleansings. Melon, pineapple, apples-grapes, vareshna, chelating, cinnamon-sweet pepper tea, steam and mists.

#8: Teas. How and when to use cedron, chamomile, lemon verbena, peppermint.

#9: Relaxers. How to use chamomile, valerian, lettuce and milk, hot water, vata press.

#10: Fire reducers. How to use peppermint tea, aloe, cream massage, frozen grapes.

#11: Water reducers. How to use cinnamon tea, paprika, cloves, ginger, ginger-black salt and lemon juice.

#12: The power of ritual & routine. When to eat, think, exercise.

#13: How to spot imbalances. Moods, physical signs. pulse testing.

#14: Quantum leap. How energy, colors, organs, glands work together and change every seven years.

#15: Shamanic exercises-yoga, llama walk, lizard, sun salute, crab and mouth release, ring chew, etc.

#16: Deeper Digestion.

#17: How to use the senses, taste, six flavors.

#18: How to use color.

#19: How to use sound.

#2o: How to use essential oils.

#21:  How to gain Super Thinking abilities, increased intelligence and super thinking into our Super Thinking + Spanish for many years but now have added this to our international investing and business seminars to create quantum wealth.

There are at least three simple ways to turn on this super thinking ability:  meditation, listening to 60 cycle music and taking Theanine.
These three steps integrate four categories of brainwaves, ranging from beta waves, the fastest of the four different brainwaves to alpha, theta and the final brainwave state, delta. Delta brainwaves are of the greatest amplitude and slowest frequency.  Deep dreamless sleep takes you down to the lowest frequency.

When we allow these waves to interconnect freely we gain unimaginable intellect.

Merri and I meditate twice every day to tap into this energy.

Plus we listen to 60 beat ten cycle classical music as we work. You could count the number of times we have missed our meditation routine in the last 20 years on one hand. This helps us enormously.

This type of music, along with deep breathing exercises for relaxation moves the mind into Alpha and deeper states as well.

Health benefits are gained as blood pressure can drop, heart rates slow and the mind becomes calmed… and you become smarter.  You tap into your higher intelligence and are more likely to have… and  enjoy… success.

A third avenue that helps enhance intelligence is Theanine (chemical name: r-glutamylethylamide) one of the chemicals found in green tea. Theanine is used to reduce stress and anxiety without the tranquilizing effects found in many other calming agents. Scientific evidence shows that Theanine stimulates the brain’s production of alpha waves, making the user feel relaxed but alert and not drowsy. It also helps the body produce other calming amino acids, such as dopamine, GABA, and tryptophan. As might be expected from a calming supplement, Theanine may be able to lower elevated blood pressure as well.

Our Quantum Wealth workshop looks at how to use super thinking to tap into deeper intelligence and what to do with this intelligence in business, investing and life so you improve the way you absorb, retain, recall information and think forever. The one day Quantum Wealth workshop prepares you to gain more from the international investing segment of the course that starts Friday February 12 when I join Thomas Fischer of Jyske Global Asset Management and our webmaster to review where to invest in 2010.

international-investment-seminar

Here is Thomas speaking at a previous seminar.

Quantum wealth shares our lifestyle.  International Business & Investing shares  how we create income through service and invest globally… plus shares our most valuable contacts and sources of knowledge.

Inflation makes it increasingly hard for almost everyone to keep up with the faster and faster pace of the rat race that captures most of the world…especially in economic downturns we have experienced for the past two years.

International investments and international business unlocks the restrictions of the rat race.

Economic stress grows…debt…rising cost of insurance, increased liability…inflation lurk everywhere. More crowded…more change…more push.  The falling dollar and economic hard times are shredding purchasing power.

This leave us few choices.

We can join the rat race or…find enjoyable ways to invest and earn.

The second day of the seminar (Friday Feb 12) looks first at multi currency investing.  Multi currency portfolios are usually slow moving, safe, conservative investments but they can be really profitable as well.

How safe?

The portfolios we create and review at our courses are composed of mutual funds and shares and are developed with the help of one of the world’s safest banks. The mutual funds and shares are held at that bank at all times.

Suppose we get specific.

That safe bank is Jyske Bank…well established with a history of over 100 years. Jyske is Denmark ’s second largest bank, with 450,000 clients in Denmark and over 30,000 abroad.

Jyske Bank has over 23 billion euros in assets and also happens to be one of the leading currency traders in the world. The Danes have always been big currency traders because as a small naval country surrounded by England , Sweden , Finland , Russia , Germany , Norway and other countries…they have always had to deal in many currencies.

This historically gained expertise means that unlike most banks (that trade only eight hours a day) Jyske maintains a 24 hour global currency and commodity dealer service. Many other large banks use Jyske to handle their off hour currency positions. This means that Jyske is huge when it comes to multi currency activity. In fact their turnover reaches $50 billion dollars a day.

That’s safe.

Each course reviews global economics and updates ways to adapt and prosper in current conditions.

This portion of the course reviews what I am doing as multi currency investor myself.  For example during the 2008 downturn the recent Global Portfolio Currency Breakdown of my own personal portfolio looked like this.

Ecuador Real Estate 12.0%
Real Estate  31.0%
Euro 10.5%
Emerging market Currencies 10.0%
Danish kroner 9.9%
US$ 8.2%
British pound 6.0%
Swedish kroner 4.0%
NZ$ 3.7%
Australian $ 1.0%
Canadian $ 1.0%

By late 2009 that portfolio had shifted to

US $ Real Estate 50%
Non US Equities   3%
Emerging Bonds 11%
Bonds                   26%
Ecuador Real Estate  (for sale) 15%
US$ Short             -5%

my liquid portfolio was diversified in these currencies:

US$  -5.0%
CAD  7.0%
NZD  7.0%
AUD   7.0%
$ Bloc   16.0%

GBP   8.0%
DKK  10.0%
SEK   4.0%
EURO 39.0%
Euro bloc 61.0%

TRY 6.0%
HUF 7.0%
BRL 6.0%
EMCS 6.0%
Emg Curr  25.0%

Now I have made another big shift in my portfolio. At the seminar you’ll see my updated portfolio and why I have made these changes.

Most teachers do not actually share their own personal portfolios…  Just as Merri and I share our home and lifestyle, we share how we invest and explain why our portfolio is designed for our circumstances at any one time.

This provides you with two benefits. First, sharing why we adjust our investments helps you understand how to adjust yours.

Second, and most important, we invest real time. The data shared in our courses is about global investments you can make in the here and now. What you learn is not dated theory, but up to the minute fact! Many delegates come to course after course to update their portfolios.

We share our most valuable sources of information as well.

For example, Thomas Fischer Senior VP of Jyske’s Global Asset Management group will join us from Copenhagen to speak about where to place your current international investment allocation… along with four others… six of our friends and most valued sources if data… will be on hand to help you.

My personal investment adviser Anders Nielsen, also with Jyske, will be on hand to speak privately and answer any of your personal questions.  Our friend and tax attorney of more than 20 years, Joe Cox will share information at the seminar as well.

multi-currency-debt

Here I am with Anders at a previous global investment session.

Here are a few of the international investing and business subjects we review at this course.

#1: How 100 years of global economics can enhance your international investments and international business now. Learn how history reveals currency distortions that create international investment opportunities to borrow low and deposit high. For example right now you can borrow Japanese yen at below 3%, Swiss francs below 4% to invest in international investments, international business, international real estate or other international currencies that pay 5%, 6%, 7% and even more. In one case we’ll show why it is smart to borrow Swiss francs at 3.75% and invest in international Brazilian bonds that pay up to 10% or more!

Subjects in the international investments sessions include a review of global stock markets, international currencies and international interest rates and how they are shifting versus the greenback.

Another session looks at where to find the best value international investments globally right now, plus how to spot the hottest international investment trends before they become hot.

We also cover how to cash in on currency shifts by making international investments through the Multi-Currency Sandwich (Borrow Low-Deposit High) tactic. This is a perfect time for such international investments using diversification of currencies and taking advantage of the currency distortions that now plague investors around the world.

Currency experts from Jyske Bank (Thomas Fischer was a currency trader for many years and Jyske is one of the major currency trading banks in the world) will provide data at that course on this subject.

We’ll study international investment portfolios that offer the advantage of diversification, in several cases into nine currencies and nine different investments of which more than half have strong A to AAA ratings. We will review any changes made in the international investments portfolios we track and update what and how currencies and interest rates may move in the months ahead.

#2: We’ll look at international investments in emerging stock markets and emerging bond markets as well. 2007 was the seventh consecutive calendar year in which international investments in emerging markets outperformed developed markets. In 2007 the MSCI overall Emerging Markets benchmark was up 23.8 % in US dollars compared to the MSCI World Total Return Index being down 0.08 % in US dollars.   See why 2008 fared worse for emerging markets and how this creates more potential value.

In 2008 emerging markets fell faster and further than major markets… but once again in 2009 they led the global investment pack.  Anders Neilsen, my Jyske account manager, is one of Jyske’s bond experts and will be on hand to answer bond questions.

This February’s International invest sessions look at which blend of emerging and major markets may work best in 2010.

How profitable? Though Jyske Global Asset Managers have been extremely conservative this year, their managed portfolios have risen between 12.2% and 34.4% depending of the risk profile and the size of arrangement.

Those with more emerging markets in 2009 made even more.  The emerging markets index (in US dollars) was up 58.99% compared to 23.05% for the major market index. Over three years the index on emerging markets was up 37.88% versus 17.27% for the world index. The emerging market index was up 35.63% compared to the world’s index rise of 18.43% over five years.

Then emerging markets recorded their highest ever quarterly returns in the second quarter 2009, and posted strong gains for the third quarter, up 37.4% in three months, which ranked as the ninth best in equity market history.

You’ll learn why in 2009 we were investing in BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China). These 4 countries now generate approximately 27% of the world´s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).  The average annual GDP growth of a BRIC nation was greater than 7% before the recession, as compared to approximately 2% for a G-7 nation.  In the first three quarters of 2009, the growth rate for the Chinese economy beat expectations with an outstanding 8.9%.   We’ll look at a special BRIC trading idea in our 2010 seminars.

#3: One session will especially focus on international investments in alternate energy and water. For example we’ll see why Hyflux (water cleaning membranes mainly in China ) rose from $1.50 to $5 in less than a year (and why it then fell dramatically). We’ll see why water shares are destined to grow. We’ll look at Vestas (windmills) shares also up from $50 to $106. Plus we’ll update our Green Portfolio. These shares are especially interesting now as they were especially depressed in the global meltdown.

This course goes far beyond just international investments in stocks, bonds and currencies. Other sessions cover:

#3: How to cash in on distortions in international real estate from Ecuador to Lithuania! We have gained much more than just profit and international business and international investing opportunity in our international real estate searches. We have gained incredible luxury, heart- warming sweetness, breath-taking beauty, much better health and pleasant surprises at every turn. Having lived, worked and played in Ecuador now for over a decade and a half, we’ll focus heavily there, but Ecuador real estate opportunity is just one small part.

For example we’ll see how to own Ecuador and Smalltown USA real estate for pleasure and profit.

The third session of the course looks at how have an international business for fun and profit.

Merri and our webmaster, David Cross join me in the third part of the seminar to look at how to have a small international internet business.

This portion of the seminar is highly practical and usable because it focuses on how to start really small…with minimal investments of time and capital.

Plus we show how to stay small (yet highly profitable) if desired. International business sessions include:

#1: How to have an International and Ecuador Import-Export Business anywhere.

We’ll especially zero in on Ecuador export business opportunities in carved wood, ceramics from Cuenca, carpets from Guano, silver and gold jewelry from Chordeleg, paintings and art, textiles from Otavalo, leathers from Cotacatchi and flowers from the Andes . For example you’ll learn how factories make bread dough jewelry that can be fashioned into high school and college mascots and purchased for pennies apiece (to be sold for dollars abroad). You see how the only native American owned mill produces coats, shirts, sweaters, hats, gloves and scarves in school colors of your choice (at really low prices). These can be sold for ten times their cost.

Here is what one delegate to our course wrote: “Warm greetings for you and Merri! I’ll be on that list of Millionaire women very soon, thanks to your wonderful guidance and tips. Thank you SO MUCH for the good work that you both do!!!”

Another shared this: “I love to travel, but since I’m not independently wealthy, I also need to make money. I made one of my dreams come true. I went to Ecuador . I attended Gary & Merri Scott’s import/export seminar, we visited artists, markets and villages. It was a treat to see the great variety of handmade items and meet the friendly artists. I started to see the possibilities. I filled my suitcases in no time. Most of those things were sold to coworkers and friends and covered the costs of my trip. Yeah!”

“I returned to Ecuador in October. I spent two weeks attending Spanish classes in Quito and the next two weeks shopping. Once home, I sold my goods at an international bazaar and again paid for my trip expenses.

“Do I plan to continue? You bet! I have ideas for other places to sell my goods and some great material for travel articles. I am learning more each trip and gaining experience and confidence and most importantly, I love doing it! Attending your workshop was the catalyst that gave me the courage to take the plunge. Thank you for enriching my life.”

#5: How to write and use publishing, seminars and how to use international internet opportunities to create your own global business from your home. You can run your global business from an office or at home! The internet makes this more possible than ever before.

In the course we use case studies of what we are doing now to show how to start small and grow on the internet! Imagine this. Merri and I have a tiny international business. Just two of us run this operation from a remote farm in the Blue Ridge, a small village in Ecuador and the Florida countryside. Yet our website is ranked among the top 20,000 sites in the USA.

By starting small and building with stepping stones and harmonious foci we now almost own several profit generating phrases at Google.

At the course, we look at how we use the Seven Ps (Person, Problem and Promise, Product) to zero in on key phrases. Then we use the Fifth P Promise to develop new customers. The Sixth P the Prospecting Path and Seventh P the Presentation we use at the internet.

This knowledge has really helped previous course delegates. Here is what one previous delegate just shared:

“Gary , I have been working on my website, healthy-holistic-living.com site and I figure it is time for another update. It is really hard to believe it, but my site just keeps growing and growing and I am now averaging 2000 visitors per day!

“What I find to be most amazing is that in just a few short months my site is #1 out of over a million sites and sometimes even millions of sites! As you always say the internet is the ‘Great Equalizer’ anybody given the right tools can compete on the internet.“

You will learn how to use the same system to expand (or start) your business globally!

#6: How to Cash in on Smalltown USA.

We’ll look at properties for sale in Central Florida. These areas have two unique features. First, they offer great real estate value. Second, they are great places to visit and live and do business.

Many readers combine a trip to our Florida or Blue Ridge courses with a chance to look around and inspect some property for sale.  Learn how demographics and population push (plus the water) and new Florida investments that have come to this area are likely to make this a hot spot in the decade ahead.  In Florida they often visit Orlando about an hour away… plus look at the great lake front properties available at really low prices.

We’ll introduce you to brokers we have used in Florida at the seminar.

#7: How to use the latest tax savings and offshore legal structures to gain the ultimate asset protection. Learn how to gain more than cash-freedom, friendship, financial security, prestige, tax savings, legal protection, fun, adventure, self-sufficiency, fulfillment and more satisfaction…by combining very small amounts of money with your time and energy in an international business.  Our friend and attorney for more than 20 years… Joe Cox will be on hand to speak and answer your questions also.

Previous course delegates have included business people, brokers and professionals, doctors, dentists, lawyers, retirees, couples wanting to get into international business together, insurance agents and marketers who want to enhance their existing business or build a second sources of income through international investments and international business.

Plus more.

We have invited more speakers than we have had in a decade to share this learning experience with you… at this seminar course… for ideas on health… green and quantum investing… asset protection and global business.

Green Investments Update

Investing in Green Investments has been created great success in recent years.

Big problems create big opportunity.  There are few problems the world faces as big as protecting the environment.  This problem creates huge profit potential in green investments.

Plus the risk of a new terrorist EMP attack could create a new international investment era that accelerates green investment potential especially in the field of non grid alternative energy.

We have proven the potential of green investments with our Green Portfolio that rose 266.30% in the first year (2007 to 2008) that Jyske Bank’s staff created and we tracked.

Now the same staff sends this thought:

There is a lot of focus these days on the climate changes and  the “Green Energy” solution.  Our capitol Copenhagen will actually host the UN Climate Change Conference (COP15) in December 7-18th 2009.

US President Barack Obama and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao have committed themselves to strive for a wide consensus and a successful Copenhagen climate change conference. According to Xinhuanet, both parties expressed the wish that the two countries should set up common targets and carry out constructive, practical cooperation in developing clean energy and addressing climate changes.

Countries in Asia have been using a large part of their stimulus packages on “Green solutions.”   South Korea has spent up to 79% and China has used 34% of the above stimulus package on investments in green technology. They have at the same time announced, that they intend to be a leading player in Energy Technology.  At the same time India is investing massively in solar and wind energy.

Therefore, these investments in “Green Energy” will be a driving force on future growth in the area.

We believe that the “climate aspect” has to be integrated into future investments, and that such a strategy can offer good returns.

We suggest investing in iShares S&P Global Clean Energy Index.

Electric Investments

Yesterday’s message looked at high voltage investments ideas.

In a moment we’ll see an Ecuador income idea.

First, here are some more electric thoughts about investing in energy.

wind-turbine

Investments in alternate energy can be profitable.  For example in 2006 we introduced the idea of investing in the Vestas Wind Turbine company.  The chart below from finance.yahoo.uk shows that this share has done really well… up four times even after the great 2008 correction.

Vestas-shares

Jyske can buy the VESTAS WIND ADR (VWDRY) of this share for US investors by the way.  Here is a chart from finance.yahoo.com of the ADR since it was introduced.

wind-turbine-chart

Jyske Bank currently has a buy recommendation with the current price of 378.50 Danish kroner  and a target price of 550 Danish kroner. Jyske considers this a HIGH RISK share and says:  Thanks to its market share of about 23% in 2007, Vestas Wind Systems is the world’s largest producer of wind turbines. The company began its production of wind turbines in 1979, and was listed on the stock exchange in 1998. Today Vestas produces and sells wind turbines in sizes from 850 kW to 3.0 MW. The company’s vision is to turn wind into an energy source equal to oil and gas.

They believe the shares are available at an attractive valuation. The company’s streamlining will continue to the benefit the earnings margins and despite the financial crisis, Vestas is facing high growth past 2009, and the management is experienced and strong.

You can get more details from Thomas Fischer at Jyske Global Asset Management at fischer@jgam.com (US investors) or Rene Mathys at Jyske Bank (non US investors) at mathys@jbpb.dk

Yet we must understand that not all alternate energy investments will go well.  See what I mean here.

Of course one malfunction does not mean much… this was just a dramatization… pointing out that we have to invest in a future…that we cannot truly see.

What can we do?

First, we can understand that we may not know the technology but we can know the trends.  Part of the future is in the here and now and we can pick up these trends.

Here are seven trends we can use to reflect upon when looking at new ideas for the future.

Trend #1: The rate of change will increase. This is self evident. Change is speeding up… so new products will not remain “in” as long.  This means bigger is not better. Ian Pierson, a futurist whom I know and respect, said that the value of a company is its idea… less its size and experience.  Fast and small have an advantage now.

Trend #2: The rate of private consumption will grow. From 1884 to 1995 private consumption just about doubled, but increased 25% in the past ten years. This means that the amount of money spent per person will continue to grow. This also means that the amount of discretionary income per person is growing.  There will be more people producing more.

Trend #3: There will be more automation. In the process of automation, mankind supplements muscles first, brains second and feelings third.

Trend #4: Age, gender and wealth are becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Trend #5: There will be a shift of attitude from our brain to heart.

Trend #6: Families will turn more and more of their responsibilities to the market place.

Trend #7: The growth in markets will be for stories, not products.

When looking at new technology… run it past this list.  This will not tell you if the technology is best… but may help you understand if the product fits the trends.

Take electric cars as an example.

We have been thinking about electricity here at the farm for some time as we have great hydro potential.

Mark Owen has been helping us research this and sent us this note about electric cars.

Electric Car Idea

Those readers who were able to get to the final paragraphs of my Electric Bicycle article might remember that I myself wondered what the Electric Bike Industry might lead to. I questioned how the industry could become more mainstream, how could it address safety concerns, convenience, and of course speed. I also pondered the question: “Two wheels or Three?”

Aptera answers “Three.”

electric-car

Aptera

After completing the article I researched a new electric “car” named the Aptera Typ-2e. This is an extraordinary vehicle on many accounts. The reason I italicized the word car when describing this vehicle is that it will be considered a motorcycle by the US government. It has three wheels, two in front, one in back. The cockpit is teardrop shaped cocoon with airbags, two comfy-looking seats, and a very sophisticated dashboard. Many have said the interior of the cockpit makes it seem like you are in a small airplane.

I have seen this car featured by videographers, and it is purported to have extraordinary acceleration and top speed. Please visit the Aptera Forum for the latest specifications sheets

I am sure it will be faster, safer, and more convenient than my electric bike.

It will cost a little more, though. Aptera reports they will be delivering the first of their vehicles in October of 2009, for an estimated cost of between $25,000.00 and $40,000. This vehicle is by far my favorite of all the electrics You may see the Aptera and 26 other electric cars reviewed here

If any reader has access to the Aptera, please invite me for a test drive, no matter where you are.

Maybe in a few years, when Aptera gets their initial “bugs” worked out, and the price slides down a bit due to enhanced production, you will see me and my daughter grinning behind the wheel of one of these cars.

This car differs a lot from the Fisker Karma we reviewed in yesterday’s post.

Will people buy the stylish Karma or the more functional Aptera?

Each of these technologies may help a bit.  Some solar… some wind… hydro… better batteries and such plus most importantly energy use reduction.

Perhaps micro production and savings will be the in thing instead just as the PC overwhelmed the mainframe computer.

Mark for example has been looking at micro wind power for us.  Wind energy is normal considered expensive… but Mark shows here that it does not need to be.  He writes:

Gary, I was at the farm a couple of times this winter. I went to the top and felt the consistency and strength of the wind up there. I have done lots of research on the cost-effectiveness of installing a windmill system. These pre-made windmill systems are expensive. Even with consistent wind, it takes a long time for a windmill system to pay back its initial investment costs.

I researched making our own windmill. It will be easy and cost eight cents on the dollar. I have already purchased a 33 foot aluminum sailboat mast. It is quite strong and will handle a medium-sized windmill. I would like to purchase the remaining components. The motor would cost about $200.00 (motor/generator, they are both the same thing). I would also like to purchase a fan blade kit. I think after the initial purchase, I will be able to manufacture our own fan blades. I will produce a template from the purchased blades, then manufacture future blade systems from the template. I think I can purchase the blade kit for another $100.

Perhaps the way of we receive, store and use energy will evolve into many inexpensive, small devices each saving a bit… as PCs and then lap tops and now hand helped devices have altered the way we receive and transmit information.

We can see a bit of this at Neuton Power.  I have used a Neuton Electric lawn mower for five or six years and finally the battery died.  When I called to get a new one, I discovered they also have electric weed eaters, chain saws, hedge trimmers, blowers and power carts. The rep explained that when they introduced their weed eater they were overwhelmed with 1,500 orders.

I have mine on back order. It will take months for them to fill demand… so electric replacing gas is in… perhaps for now in small ways… but watch for this trend to grow.

Here is another nifty idea that saves energy and could create a business opportunity in Ecuador… the solar or sun oven.

sun-oven

Sun ovens cook with the sun… no electricity… fossil fuel, wood, charcoal or any pollution are required.   This may offer a  business opportunity in Ecuador or anywhere sunny.  Learn more about solar ovens here.

International Internet Business Idea

Here is an international internet business idea involving the convergence of  the future and nostalgia.

The idea is that “people want what they perceive they have lost”.

Recognizing what you feel you have lost, there are ways to to earn income wherever you live.

Problems create opportunity.

Having lost something is a problem.

Since each of us represents a unique market… if we can understand what we feel we have lost… we can understand a problem that many others also feel.

Here is a case study about this.

I feel that we have lost simpler times… when we were not so dependent on a system that is so far beyond of our control.

For example, if for any reason the internet does not work… I am out of business.

If for any reason the national food distribution system stops, I cannot eat.

If for any reason, gasoline supplies are cut off, I cannot travel.  Etc. Etc.

Access to these supplies are beyond my control.

That is one reason that we moved to an isolated North Carolina  farm 11 years ago.. a survival place… where we also love to be even though the system we depend upon is working fine.

I would like this farm to be more independent and sustainable.

The growing risks of a social economic systemic meltdown have created a window where the past and future have come together.

We perceive we have lost a simple, independent life.  In the future we may need to be more independent again.

So we can logically ask, “What needs for the future are now here?”

Here are five “the future is now” investing and business trends that have merged. They seem to have a bright future.

#1: Gain value added. This is the era when small and flexible are beautiful. Modern community technology makes it possible for even micro businesses to virtually integrate. I’ll give you a specific in a moment.

#2: Invest in real estate. I know, I know people keep saying that prices are going down. Yet these same people keep having kids without making more land. This looks like an opportunity distortion to me.

#3: Bet on inflation. I do not see how with the massive government bailouts this will not happen everywhere…to a great extent.

#4: Invest in alternative power and sustainability. The same fundamentals as for real estate are at work…more kids…no more fresh water…trees…soil…clean air…etc. Plus one factor more. Each child born expects more.

#5: Invest in natural health. The current social economic lifestyle is flawed.  The acquisition of stuff creates too much work…leading to too much stress…with too little time…and poor nutrition…leading to pharmaceutical and surgical intervention. This intervention costs too much and is not a pleasant, effective approach that optimizes maximum human efficiency.

I believe that anyone who invests or has a business in these areas has great potential.

Based on this belief, I am working with a team that is assembling a proposal for what we can do with our land creating a Draftwood Village, micro hydro power supply, etc.

That team has been organized by Ian Snider…  the formulator of the Draftwood concept.  Draftwod… sustainable harvested, value added timber hauled out by draft horses.

Here is Ian mowing hay near the old farm house they live in on the South Fork of the New River.

international-business-ideas

Here is Ian’s wife, Tracy, with their draft horse, Frank, discing their sweet sorghum cane field.

business-marketing-ideas

With these thoughts in mind we are taking our next step here at the farm which was originally an investment in real estate (#2 above). Plus our move here was also an investment in water. We have dozens of springs. This one for example, called the “Indian’s Trough”, is a historical site and produces many gallons of water a second.

springs

This one spring alone provides all the water in our home and fills a small waterfall in our backyard, and waters all the animals out back.

waterfall

Plus fills the wood fired, hot tub we have in the deep woods.

enviro spa

Spring water fills the tub.

enviro-spa-entrance

Fallen wood heats the water which comes from the spring year round at 49 degrees F. We usually soak at 105 to 110 F.

enviro-hot-tub

There are dozens of the springs on the property…hundreds of rivulets leading to streams and pretty soon they form our creeks, waterfalls…

water-falls

and ponds.

water-southern exposure

Our land rises nearly 1,000 feet. You can see the rise on an aerial photo. The blue lines are roads on the farm. The bald at the top sits at 4,000 feet. Our entrance at 3,000+.

water-view

At the bottom of the farm we have a rushing creek pushed by hundreds of feet of drop.

creek-power

We are combining this fact with a bet on inflation and an investment on sustainability and alternative power (#3 and #4 above) and plan to move our farm off the grid so we can live in a healthier, wealthier, more independent way. Not all alternate energy is cost effective at this time…at current energy rates. I expect the rates to rise so am willing to speculate by investing in energy saving and producing capital now.

Here is the plan we are working on that enhances the value added aspect of our business (#1 above). We have some great home sites on the farm. Some have some great locations for solar, hydro and wind power.

Many of our meadows have southern views and are filled with morning and evening sun.

multi-currency-solar-power

Our home has a complete southern exposure and was built with 13 inch concrete filled, styrofoam insulated, heat retaining walls.

southern exposure

The 12 large glass windows and doors let the sun pour in all day. Even when it is freezing outside you can nearly heat the house with a candle.

Other sustainability assets include wind potential in places on the land that are high, sunny and exposed.

Our vision for the farm is evolving like this…homes that can support themselves: …energy…food…and water…but connected to the world.

There is more value added potential in…wood. A nearby business specializes in sustainable logging…with horses. See www.mtnworks.org

horse-logging

This allows one to work on an entirely integrated plan…harvesting and milling wood…to build houses and cabins on sites like this…that

multi-currency-solar-view:

are off the grid with solar, wind and water power and with enough land to grow one’s own organic food.

These and other qualities also lead to many natural health opportunities so we have a complete opportunity to create opportunity from all five of the the “future is now” investing and business ideas above.

This plan is filled with value added potential. We can help our forest with sustainable logging.

The wood can be used for the cabins.

We can offer courses that teach people the logging, the milling, how to build the cabins.

We can teach people how to save via off the grid living and even help them obtain off the grid equipment. Plus we gain off the grid homes for our retreat center.

I expect this will make new avenues so our business can change and grow in the next five to ten years…just as Ecuador altered our life and business a previous decade ago.

This process feels right to us and we are proceeding.

As Ian at Mountainworks points out we could offer some great value added benefits that combine the past and future.   Here is how he describes what we could do.

“Come stay for a week this winter and ski/snow shoe our horse logging trails, learn how to sustainably select your trees for the perfect bluegrass guitar….take the reins for a turn driving the draft horses as they carefully remove the chosen wood…soak in the wood fired hot tub after a day of custom sawing your lumber….dine on the finest game of the field or our preserved farm veggies with homemade wine…return late next spring to assemble your dream instrument in time for pickin at the summer festivals…stake your claim in our exclusive Draftwood Village of custom built carbon positive cottages….”

Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere

A huge economic struggle is taking place.

If that struggle is lost what’s left of our privacy, the safety of our food supply, the control over our health, the safety of our money and even the sanctity of our opinions and thoughts could be lost.

Almost half of America’s voters rejected the postwar global economic order.  England’s voters did this too.  This has left a cloud of uncertainty over the U.S. and world economies.

Markets and social order can collapse at any time.

Schools are not safe from shooters on the rampage.

Streets are in danger of terrorists ramming their cars into riders on bikes.

We are no longer safe… in shopping centers, at festivals, even in the church.

Yet the bigger danger grows.   This struggle is taking place, right now.

You can read about tiny parts of this conflict daily in the news.   Most of the clash however is hidden from view.  There are horrible consequences hidden beneath the visible spin.

There is an association forming that can ruin our health care, nutrition and the environment.  A group that can control what you read on the internet, see over cell phones, watch on TV and what trends in social media.

Everything you write or say can recorded and be used  to control what you hear and read.

The warning shot, above the surface, is the merger between Bayer and Monsanto.  This union is horrible enough, yet it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

Seven companies are involved in a more sinister plot.

The momentum of this dangerous alliance has picked up faster than anticipated.

I began researching and preparing a report “Learn Anywhere, Earn Everywhere” when the Bayer-Monsanto merger was the big deal.   They are two of the seven firms involved in this almost invisible take-over of our food and medical services as well as the internet, cell phones and TV.

I started researching when I saw the hidden depths of this Bayer-Monsanto merger.  I was truly concerned and shocked because my research discovered that the consolidation of Bayer and Monsanto is not the biggest merger nor the most dangerous by far.

I miscalculated how much time we have.  I went to work on the report right away, taking my time to delve deeply, but even before I have finished the report, events have begun to heat up.   The pace of this hidden unification has increased.  Now another merger is taking place, far more destructive and the alliance has an incredible lobby program working to make sure that the deal goes through.

A triad of three huge concerns and four smaller ones with hundreds of billions of dollars have built one of the most formidable lobbying operations in Washington.  Nearly 100 registered lobbyists are already on retainer and they include former members of Congress.   One company in this heptagon is also the largest donor to federal lawmakers.

The donations we know of equal more than $11 million paid to 374 of the House’s 435 members and 85 of the Senate’s 100 members in this election cycle.

This deadly seven point affiliation is likely to snake into almost every part of our livelihood.

One part of the cartel will increase our dependence on modified food that can purposely increase our needs for pharmaceuticals manufactured and sold at outrageous prices by another arm of the group.

The organizations will know more about us than any other group in existence.  They will (in fact they already are) act as spies for the government.  This amalgamation will control what ads we see, the products we buy, listen into our phone calls and even monitor and influence what we see on TV.

Sadly most of the public will not even know that this fusion has taken place.  Life will appear to go on as normal.  They won’t even see the change as what’s left of their good life which could be drained away by corporate malfeasance.

This is why I am rushing a report to you so you can be one of the few who avoid the ruin of this alliance and gain rather than lose from the shift.

The report “Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere” contains seven steps we can take to gain benefits and protection from this cartel.

Here is some background.  At the beginning of the 20th century, Carl Duisberg, the head of Bayer, created a profit sharing cartel from three firms BASF, Bayer and Agfa, called the Dreibund (Triple Alliance) or little IG.

This German chemical association dominated commerce everywhere under the name of IG Farben, the largest company in Europe, the 4th largest anywhere and the largest chemical company in the world.

Because “Power Corrupts” this company morphed into something truly evil before and during the Second World War.

After WWII IG Farben was considered so morally corrupt it could not be allowed to continue to exist and was split into its original constituent companies.  Today Agfa, BASF, Sanofi and Bayer remain.

This is where facts become truly scary.  Some of these very same companies have merged with other mega concerns to create a new American Dreibund (a Triple Alliance dominating the USA).   This new cartel has such power it can take control of your food, your medicine and even influence, if not control, what you read and the information you access for health and wealth.  Even worse, they can monitor everything you do and give it to others in government and business as well.

From a political point of view we cannot do much about this alliance.   The cartel has hundreds of billions of dollars and hundreds of lobbyists.  They are making their big move right now, to take advantage of the current political distraction.  They know that after an election politicians are willing to accept bad news because it will be forgotten in four years.

In addition their greatest enemy in the government has only a couple of months left as the head of the Federal agency that will fight this cartel.

Only a few people will know how to take advantage of the shifts created from the results of this alliance.

The sooner we act, the greater the benefits.   This is why I want to rush my newest report “Live Anywhere-Earn Everywhere” to you.  This report shares how to protect what you have from this coalition that is taking over mainstream media, our food supply as well as our medical history, health care and communications.

Fortunately a loophole can set you free.  You can protect what you have and actually improve your situation, a lot.  Merri and I have already jumped though the loophole and want to share why and how you should too.

How to Gain Extra Freedom – While Almost Everyone Loses Theirs.  Become a Pruppie!

May I coin a new word, Pruppie?

We all know about preppers.  They believe that the world, as we know it, is about to end.  And we also know about Uppies, upward professionals as in Yuppies, young upward professionals.  Uppies expect their world to get better.

The reality is that our worlds have changed and for most of us, there is still great opportunity for a better lifestyle, yet the preppies could be right.

I invite you to join Merri and me as Pruppies, those who expect the world to get better and live and earn based on that expectation but enjoy a progressive lifestyle of freedom that also happens to prepare us for bad times as well as good.

Just in case… the world goes sideways… we will still survive and prosper anyway.  We do not give up anything much.  We can enjoy the good parts of the new economy, as we protect ourselves from what can be bad.

For example in this report, you’ll see how to make your dining room table bring you more control, more time, more income and more freedom.  After all, what can be more accessible than a dining room table?

ecuador-banks

You’ll even learn how to turn dining room tables into income and tax deductions as we have with these dining room tables we build out of local wood.

Let me be clear.  I expect that the world will get better, at least for the few who adapt and avoid the dangers the American Dreibund has planned for the public.  The wealth of the world, albeit with inequality, has continued to grow.  There is an incredible new economy that’s opening for those who know what to do.  There are great new opportunities and many of them offer enormous income potential and they even work well in disaster scenarios.

Let me provide one simple, concrete example.  Ginseng.

This is a great health root.  The demand is growing especially in China.  At times good dried Ginseng sells for $1,000 a pound!  This is an incredible and easy crop to grow.   The less care you give it, the more valuable it can become.  Yet if everything goes south, the health qualities will be good to have and make it an excellent barter item.  Once you know what to do with ginseng, it’s easy to grow in your back yard.

Even better one of the best kept secrets is that ginseng and 125 other medicinal crops that are currently unsustainable but can be grown on land  that is extraordinarily cheap.

goldenseal ginseng

Ginseng growing in our back yard.  I know about growing ginseng through experience and explain why and how in the report.

There are are specific places that reduce your living expenses, easily increase your income, make you smarter, healthier and provide tax benefits as well.

Learn about these specific places.  More important learn what makes these places special and seven freedom producing steps that you can use to find other similar spots of opportunity.

Here are some of the experiences this report shares:

The report includes a tax and career plan broken into four age groups, before you finish school, from age 25 to 50 – age 50-to 65 and what to do when you reach the age where tradition wants you to re-tire.  (Another clue-you do not need to retire and probably should not).

The report is very specific because it is about what Merri and I, our children and even my sister and thousands of our readers have done and are doing.

Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere focuses on a system that takes advantage of living in Smalltown USA, but earning globally.

  • Learn about the magic of the north facing slope.   This is where Merri and I live almost half of our time.  North facing mountain land is some of the least expensive in the world but has hidden values that the report reveals.  There is a lot of this land and a lot of hidden value that you can tap.   When we bought our Blue Ridge farm (252 acres) I mentioned this to my Swiss banking friend.  “That’s bigger than the entire village where I live!” was his response.  Smalltown USA offers a last chance at having a lot of space.  By living in two Smalltown places there are enormous tax advantages as well.  One step in the system saves Merri and me over $28,345 in taxes a year.

The report shows how to buy cheap north facing slopes and create an income producing tiny home for $29,000 or less.

If you lack the $29,000 to invest, a start up using tents is even less.  These are tipis we put up at our farm before we built our first tiny home.  Learn how they can create tens of thousands of dollars in income for you.

  • There are similar benefits from having a second home office defined in IRS publication 463 and IRS publication 587, even if your desk is a dining room table.  The report also shows how your dining room table can become an actual income producer as its creates a huge tax deduction at the same time, not to mention a great place to eat, work and lay out plans for a brighter, safer more lucrative and enjoyable future.
  • Living in this environment is also healthier, economically as well as physically.  You’ll see in the report how researchers at Harvard found an amazing correlation between living in conditions found on north facing slopes, longevity and mental health.  The researchers were quite surprised by this strong correlation that also extended into mental health.  In addition to feeling better, reducing stress and having more Joie de Vivre the places outlined in “Live Anywhere-Earn Everywhere” can help you avoid hospitals, high cost disease management (aka health care) and BIG pharma while providing an investment opportunity in three plants that have some of the fastest growing demand in natural health care.  These three plants are just one of seven business opportunities that can create multiple streams of income.

International Investments Major Market Valuations August 2009

Here are details about International Investments Major Market Valuations for August 2009.

At our July 2009 international investing seminar, we reviewed the Dow’s previous 16 year down cycle which ran from February 1966 through August 1982.

international-investing-seminar

Here are delegates  at a local winery for a wine tasting after the course.

During that seminar we saw that in the first 12 years of that period, 1966 to 1977, the Dow dropped 1% overall  in 135 months.

Then we compared the similar period in the current Dow downside which is from  1998 until May  2009. The Dow had also dropped 1% in 135 months.

Then we looked at three charts comparing the Dow’s performance over various two year periods  to the period July 2007 to July 2009.

We viewed how the Dow appears to be entering the 12th year of a 15 to 17 year down cycle that began in 1998.  We compared the last two years of this cycle, with the equivalent period in the 1966 to 1982 bear cycle.

We saw an amazing 93% correlation between then and now.

The chart below from Moore Research compares the Dow from 1976 through 1978 with the same time to July 2009.  The Blue line is what happened in the equivalent period in the 1970s to now.

global-trends

Then we looked at what might happen in the next two years.  Ignore the black line which shows the Dow for the last two years. This should not correlate with the next two years period.

This suggests that in the next two years, we’ll see a lot of sideways motion with some severe drops.

The next chart suggests that between 2011 and 2014 we’ll see even more severe drops. Again ignore the black line.  This represents the Dow over the last two years and  has no bearing on these periods.

The blue line is what history suggests the Dow might act in the years ahead.

dow-chart

Down… down… down… until late in the two year period when the bull finally begins.

Then the bull trend continues over the next two years.

dow-chart

According to our 35 + or –  year wave theory some great new innovation should come along around 2014 and ignite the next 15 to 17 year bull in 2013 or 14.  The steam won’t really pick up till about 2016… or even a bit later.

This will be good news for retiring boomers who manage not to be wiped out from the next half decade of sideways and downwards motion.

This led us in the seminar to see seven places to invest now.

Value Markets for the long term
Multi Currency Spread
Emerging Markets for the long term

Alternate Energy
Real Estate

This message focuses on value markets and reviews Michael Keppler’s just released three month Major Market Value Analysis.

If you are a new reader learn about Keppler Asset management here.

Keppler wrote:

In my Spring 2009 edition, I wrote that Benjamin Graham’s margin of safety indicates that much better times may lie ahead for global equity investors. I was not aware, however, that such a powerful turnaround was underway. After seven consecutive negative quarters, global equity markets had in the second quarter 2009 their sixth best return since inception of the MSCI Indices at the end of 1969. The Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) World Total Return Index (with net dividends reinvested, December 1984=100) advanced 16.5 % in local currencies, 20.7 % in US dollars and 14.3 % in euros.

All markets covered here advanced in the second quarter. Singapore (+39 %), Hong Kong (+35.8 %) and Spain (+29.3 %) performed best last quarter.

The United Kingdom (+10.2 %), Australia (+10.3 %) and Switzerland
(+11.2 %) had the lowest returns.

During the first half of the year, sixteen markets advanced and two markets
declined.

Hong Kong (+35.1 %), Singapore (+33.4 %) and Sweden (+23.8 %) fared best. Germany (-1.5 %).

The United Kingdom (-1.3 %) and Switzerland (+0.5 %) came in at the bottom of the performance range.

The Top Value Model Portfolio based on the Top Value Strategy using national MSCI country indices as hypothetical investment vehicles, finished the second quarter 2009 at +21.9 % in local currencies,  (+30 %) in dollars and +23.1 % in euros outperforming the benchmark by 5.4, 9.3 and 8.8 percentage points,
depending on the currency.

Year-to-date, the Top Value Model Portfolio is up 13.3 % in local currencies,     17.8 % in US dollars and 16.7 % in euros. These results exceed the benchmark returns by 8.5, 11.4 and 11.3 percentage points in local currencies, US dollars and euros, respectively.

There were two changes in our performance ratings last quarter: Hong Kong and Belgium were downgraded to “Sell” from “Buy”.

The Top Value Model Portfolio currently contains the following six “Buy” rated countries at equal weights: Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

Our current ratings suggest that these markets offer the highest expectation of long-term risk-adjusted returns.

Last quarter, I showed our implicit 3 to 5 year return projections of 27.8 % p.a. for the equally weighted World Index. The projections stood at their all-time high at the end of March 2009. The equally weighted World Index better
represents the global equity environment than the cap.-weighted MSCI World Index with its 48.5 percent weight in US stocks. After having risen 19.4 % last quarter, the equally weighted World Index now stands at 1,816.9.  During
the last three months our expectation of the index level in 3 to 5 years declined from 4,055 to 3,852, which in combination with the strong price appreciation over the last three months leads to a drop of our current estimates of the annual price appreciation over the next 3 to 5 years to 20.7 percent.

dow-chart

I show these numbers with the usual caveats: Forecasts are dangerous, particularly those about the future.

Keppler’s analysis shows that low value markets are: Canada, Belgium,  Denmark, Hong Kong, Switzerland and USA.

Neutral value markets are Australia, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden.

It is interesting to show that Keppler’s projections for value investments shows appreciation into 2014.

History however suggests that equity investments may be subject to a lot of turmoil for the next few years. The down periods will create exceptional value if you can ride though the storm and hold on medium to long term. The volatility will also create some trading opportunities for those who are qualified to buy and sell shorter term.

I am especially cautious now. See why at International Investments Warning.

Multi Currency Investing Value in Change

Multi currency investing in change creates opportunity if you stick to value as well.

We have a great rooster here at the farm.   Beautiful.

Blue-Ridge-rooster

So now we also have some new chicks!

Blue-ridge-chick

What fun!

Watching them started me thinking about multi currency investing cycles and evolution.

If we look, we can see mankind and our multi currency, global economy evolve in ways that make sense.

Yet the shift are often hard to see.

On a recent trip Merri and I were stuck next to a TV (we do not have this at the farm) and the show was called Mad Men…about ad men in the 50s.  The smoking everywhere, three martini lunches, incredible sexual harassment, gender, religious and racial bias.

Wow, consider how much we have progressed!  Perfection now? No.  Better than before…I think so and we are making progress.

How can we spot, and position ourselves for change?

The economic doldrums of today will create the life styles of tomorrow. High rising costs of energy…food and essentials are creating a more spiritual world.

People are learning to look within for their fulfillment rather than relying on the shopping cart of the material market place to bring them joy.

They are more likely to spend more time in their church, mosque, synagogue or other place of religious worship than in Wal Mart.

Is this bad?

They may enjoy more friends, family and their social community.  Perhaps spend more time hiking and in nature or contemplating…slowing down to enjoy life more.

Think, if nothing, else of the environmental good.

How do we prepare our lives, our business, our finances for this new way?

During the 40 years I have been investing abroad, I have observed seven golden investing trends.

#1: 1970s Gold & Silver.

#2: Japan , Germany , Switzerland , England , Australia and Hong Kong .

#3: 1980s. The Tigers, Taiwan , Singapore Malaysia and South Korea , & Turkey .

#4: Early 1990s. South America (which led me to Ecuador).

#5: Late 1990s and 2000s. China , India and Eastern Europe .

#6: Invest in Real Estate Throughout.

#7: Bet Against the US Dollar Throughout

Now an eighth powerful green trend is in force.

How do we tap into this new economic wave?

Good value investments in water, alternate energy and environmental salvation offer incredible opportunity…if you maintain a good sense of value.

Like with all huge shifts, there will be scams and over priced investments.

An article by Alex Williams entitled, “That Buzz in Your Ear May Be Green Noise” touches on this when it says:

“DESPITE the expense and the occasional back strain, Mary Burnham, a public relations consultant in San Francisco, felt good about the decision she made a few years ago to buy milk — organic, of course — only in heavy, reusable glass bottles. For the sake of the environment, she dutifully lugged them back and forth from the grocery store every week. Cutting out disposable paper cartons, she reasoned, meant saving trees and reducing waste.

“Or not. A friend, also a committed environmentalist, recently started questioning her good deed. ‘His argument was that paper cartons are compostable and lightweight and use less energy and water than the heavy bottles, which must be transported back to a plant to be cleaned and reused,’ she said. “I have no idea which is better, or how to find out.”

“Ms. Burnham, 35, recycles religiously, orders weekly from a community-supported farm, buys eco-friendly cleaning products and carries groceries in a canvas bag. But she admits to information overload on the environment — from friends, advice columns, news media, even government-issued reports. Much of the advice is conflicting.

“To say that you are confused and a little fed up with the often contradictory messages out there on how to live lightly on the earth is definitely not cool,” she said in an e-mail message. “But, heck, I’ll come out and say it. I’m a little overwhelmed.”

“She is, in other words, a victim of ‘green noise’ — static caused by urgent, sometimes vexing or even contradictory information played at too high a volume for too long.”

Green is good but as mankind learns and evolves, there will be plenty of spin. There will be more than enough turmoil and confusion about what is best and what will succeed.

The true guide that can guide you through the noise that is created during new economic waves is value.

For example investments in wind power make sense. T.  Boone Pickens has just announced that he will make a huge investment in wind power.

An NPR article said: “After decades investing in oil, T. Boone Pickens is now pouring billions of dollars into what he calls America’s biggest wind farm. Pickens envisions putting up 2,500 turbines in Texas to generate 4,000 megawatts of energy — enough to power 1.3 million homes.

“Pickens says America is living with oil prices of more than $140 per barrel and gasoline topping $4 per gallon because it didn’t plan for its energy future.

“The mistake was made because we didn’t have the leadership that stepped up and said, ‘We cannot continue to import foreign oil,'” Pickens tells Steve Inskeep.

“Wind currently generates a relatively small percentage of the nation’s power, with most coming from coal, nuclear and natural gas.

“Pickens says he would like to use more wind for power generation and shift natural gas for use as a transportation fuel.

“We’ve got plenty of natural gas,” he says. “That’s the beauty of it. Natural gas is cleaner, it’s cheaper, it’s abundant and it’s domestic.”

“He notes that the United States, with just 4 percent of the world’s population, uses 25 percent of the world’s oil supply — most of it imported.

“Pickens says he wants the government to extend a production tax credit for wind power for a period long enough to encourage investment in the technology.

“The federal government recently issued a report forecasting that 20 percent of U.S. power generation could come from wind energy by the year 2030. Pickens says that’s too long from now — he’ll be 102 years old.

“This has to happen quicker than that,” he says. “We’ll be broke if you wait for this to all take place by 2030.”

Wind investments may be good, but not all wind investments all the time. Yet not all wind investments may be good.

Jyske Bank recently placed a sell recommendation on one of the most successful recent shares we have tracked, Vestas, the wind and turbine maker. See why here.

Green is good now. Paying too much for an investment, regardless of its color is never good.   Even when you ride the wave always keep your eye on value.

Feast Now Famine – Multi Currency Investments

Shots like this of an Ecuador food market and multi currency investments grow in importance…beause the world’s cupboards are getting bare!

Ecuador-Food
Multi currency investments help investors adapt to change.  Multi currency investments are especially valuable now because change is here…big time.

Change brings distortions. Distortions create problems and problems create opportunity.

Messages about multi currency investments over the last two days have looked at a problem that had been forgotten for many years…having enough food.

US debt creates a falling US dollar.  This is why multi currency investments are important.  A falling dollar creates inflation. Yesterday’s message showed us how soon twenty dollar bill will not be enough to buy a gallon of milk, a dozen eggs and a small loaf of bread.

This is the tip of the iceberg.  Beyond the greenback’s demise there is a more serious underlying supply and demand fundamental…there simply is not enough food right now.

Investors need more than just multi currency investments.

This was not the global position in past decades. In the 1980s, the U.S. Department of Agriculture was saddled with mountains of surplus cheese, corn and other foods that it socked away in warehouses and even caves.

As recently as 2003, the USDA had to buy so much powdered milk to support dairy prices that beleaguered officials shipped some to U.S. ranchers for cattle feed.
The European Union farm program had lakes of excess wine and mountains of cheese and butter stored.

Yet a recent USA Today article says: “While the previous surpluses were costly and sharply criticized, much of the food found its way to the poor, here and abroad. Today, says USDA Undersecretary Mark Keenum, “Our cupboard is bare.

“U.S. government food surpluses have evaporated because, with record high prices, farmers are selling their crops on the open market, not handing them over to the government through traditional price-support programs that make up for deficiencies in market price.

“Worldwide, food prices have risen 45% in the past nine months, posing a crisis for millions, says the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization.

“Because of the current economics of food, and changes in federal farm subsidy programs designed to make farmers rely more on the markets, large U.S. reserves may be gone for a long time.

“The upshot: USDA has almost no extra food to supplement the billions in cash payments it spends to combat hunger at home and in developing nations.”

This is a huge problem and hence grand opportunity.  The solution is not simply making more money with multi currency investments…to buy enough food either.   You cannot be rich, happy, successful and full when those around you are hungry.  Not only is this inhumane…hunger and thirst are motivations that will destroy law and order faster than any other!

Investors have to put their multi currency investments in businesses that will bring fundamental changes in the way the world produces food.

I noticed this recently when at the Parsons Feed Store buying laying mash for our hens.  The phone rang and the clerk seemed exasperated. “No we do not have any,” she almost shouted in the phone.  “Seed potatoes.” she said. “Everyone is calling for them and we have been out for weeks”.   I asked, “Was the supply short this year?”   “No,” she said. “We had two shipments. Everyone is just buying more.”

There is an opportunity somewhere here.  I haven’t figured out what it is, but know it is there.

Take, as another example, shares of Vestas Wind Systems. We follow these shares in our multi currency course and they have been a huge winner.  One reason behind the food shortage is that many governments incorrectly promoted food (such as corn) as a source of alternate energy.  This helped skew the food supply down faster than demographics would have done.

Those who change, adapt and invest in solutions to problems are those who will profit.  This is why we are examining seven multi currency shares including Vestas in our multi currency course.

Until next message, may food always be abundant for you.
