Thanksgiving on The Equator

An Ecuadorian time of thanksgiving has a timely message now.

We have also have had the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving in many countries, from Ecuador to England to Hong Kong. We especially enjoy this day because no one outside the US recognizes Thanksgiving Day in November as an official holiday.  This gives us an opportunity to share a beautiful American tradition with other cultures.

Our family is so wide spread…five kids: in Oregon, Florida, London and Bristol, England, can rarely all unite for Thanksgiving.  Since everyone globally likes feasts, we find it easy and delightful to create a larger family.

We often use the day to invite friends, wherever we are, to share our turkey, dressing, cranberries and pumpkin pie (though there have been challenges finding the ingredients at times – one year in Gloucestershire, we had to settle for making a yam pie as there were no pumpkins!)  Many from other nations have left our Thanksgiving table knowing the true heart of America better after sharing this traditional meal with us.

This is a wonderful…simple way to enjoy friends and expand goodwill worldwide for which we are truly thankful.

Ecuador does not celebrate Thanksgiving but while living on the Equator, Merri and I learned a great lesson about the importance of having a thankful attitude.

This was the year 2000.  Merri and I were spending an entire winter at our Ecuadorian plantation with a shaman and his apprentices.

The shaman and his apprentices stayed in the plantation house. We lived in this crumbling 10’x 10′ hut, no electricity, no phone and no hot water…for months just so we could have privacy and to be more or less in nature.

Ecuador-Thanksgiving

Our goal was to understand how the lifestyle of the indigenous equator  and how the residents really lived, thought and felt.  We did not expect how much we would learn.

Though the apprentices had no material wealth and earned about $30 a month, the joy and happiness during that time with those people was infectious, laughter always just waiting to bubble over at any event.

Then one day around thanksgiving the Ecuador’s economy literally came to a shrieking halt.  Almost everything shot down.

The country ran out of gas.  The banks were closed.  The shaman and the apprentices lost every penny they had in the banks.  Upon learning this, the shaman called for a mingo (this word means circle and represents a meeting) where he performed a ceremony of thanks for all the change that these losses would bring.

Later after the meeting we sat on the front porch and looked out, over this view.

Ecuador-Thanksgiving

We watched the setting sun, dropping in a burst of purple and mauve. The wind was warm and a symphony of insects gave a serenade. This now penniless shaman looked over and whispered. “Life is good”.

Changes in his financial life did not rob him of a penny’s worth of living.  He felt what others considered a loss with gratitude.

I can’t put in words what a sense of peace and harmony rolled over us as we looked down at the lushness of the valley below, the mists rising, the waterfalls folding in lacy cascades, bird songs trilling through the clear air.  The river although far below us was a great bubbling sound along with the strangeness of some of the bird calls. This was a joy we had not felt since we were kids.

As Merri and I enjoy this day of thanks, we feel that our thankfulness is heightened due to our sharing Thanksgiving with other cultures that have helped us learn to be thankful, about everything…even though they may seem negative at the time.

We cannot thank you enough!  We look forward with great joy to sharing more ideas in the year ahead with you. If we can in some way make your life more joyous and help you laugh, learn and be grateful, we will truly be blessed. There is such beauty on this earth and in this world at this time. We feel privileged to be able to share it with you.

Be More Intelligent With Super Thinking Routines

Here is a way to increase intelligence and reduce fear.

Two points almost everyone agrees on about the future are… first we need to be smarter to keep up with the faster pace of change… and second the world’s economy has and will continue to globalize.

Be smarter as the world turns faster.  Super Thinking tactics in our courses help create new income opportunity and also can improve health.

A Wall Street Journal article entitled “Ways to Inflate Your IQ” says: Many people think of IQ as a genetic trait, like brown eyes or short legs: You’re born with it and you’re stuck with it. Now, a growing body of research is showing that a person’s IQ can rise—and even fall—over the years.

Scores can change gradually or quickly, after as little as a few weeks of cognitive training, research shows.

In the latest study, 33 British students were given IQ tests and brain scans at ages 12 to 16 and again about four years later by researchers at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at University College London; 9% of the students showed a significant change of 15 points or more in IQ scores.

On a scale where 90 to 110 is considered average, one student’s IQ rose 21 points to 128 from 107, lifting the student from the 68th percentile to the 97th compared with others the same age, says Cathy Price, professor of cognitive neuroscience at the center and co-author of the study, published last month in Nature.

Swings in individual IQ scores are often written off as the product of measurement error or a test subject having a bad day. But MRIs in this study showed changes in gray matter in areas corresponding to fluctuations in the kids’ skills, Dr. Price says.

There are practical steps people can take to see longer-term IQ changes. A 30-year study at the National Institute of Mental Health found that people whose work involves complex relationships, setting up elaborate systems or dealing with people or difficult problems, tend to perform better over time on cognitive tests. Test scores of people whose jobs are simple and require little thought actually tend to decline, according to the research, published in 1999 in Psychology and Aging.

New tasks stimulate the brain most. When researchers at the University of Hamburg subjected 20 young adults to one month of intense training in juggling, they found an increase in the corresponding gray matter in the brain as early as seven days after the training began.

Fluctuations in IQ scores over time underscore the brain-boosting benefits of a complex job, musical training, advanced schooling and new experiences throughout a lifetime.

Music lessons are linked to higher IQ throughout life, according to research by E. Glenn Schellenberg, a psychology professor at the University of Toronto at Mississauga. Six years’ lessons lifted children’s IQ scores an average 7.5 points.

Super Thinking Tactics improve the brain through the use of music.  The Super Thinking Story.

The educational program Merri and I have developed uses a form of brain wave integration that opens enormous opportunity for expansion, understanding, peacefulness as well as greater wealth. We are sharing this in depth program that teaches Super Thinking.

Super Thinking uses frequency (in music and a number of other ways) to integrate brain waves so the process of absorbing, processing and recalling information is vastly accelerated. This brings forth the three C’s: Calm, Clarity and Coherence.

How the Super Learning History Brings Opportunity to You Now:

Our Super Thinking programs are not gimmicks or tricks… just advanced education.

Merri and I are explorers. Our business began 46 years ago (May 1968) and we continue to always look for what’s next… trying to stay on or ahead of the leading edge.

This process helped us create the totally unique system we use that incorporates numerous tactics.

The first tactic is to use Baroque music in the learning process. At least three best selling books, “Superlearning”, the “Mozart Effect” and “Superlearning 2000″ have revealed insights about how to learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian educational master, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.

This one tactic alone is so powerful that Small Business Innovation Research… an official site of the US government granted over $100,000 for the specific purpose they said was: to provide a method to remove barriers which hinder or prevent the employment of blind persons. An innovative method call the Lozanov learning system is proposed to help train blind persons to become computer programers and operators of automated equipment.

Merri was among just a few who learned directly from Dr. Lozanov the one time he visited the USA and is licensed in these techniques.

Merri has enhanced this system with numerous other tactics. One is to make slight alterations in nutrition. Altered nutrition can make anyone a person 25% smarter. These two tactics are just part of seven, easy to use learning techniques that help gain any skill, from computers to athletics to conversational languages… in much less time than traditional learning techniques… often two-to-five times faster, in exciting and innovative ways…but most of all it is a system that is stress free and full of fun.

Our Super Learning System helps in innumerable walks of life. This is why the second year of our teaching program offers extra opportunity for you now.

Problems Can Create Opportunity

There is a huge and growing problem of accelerating change that requires accelerated learning. You can use a Super Thinking focus in every aspect of your life including your business… shifting our mental process into overdrive.

Super Thinking works by focusing on the learner first… the data second. This system “grows the learner” rather than just expands the information. The explosion of data we must all process every day means there is too much information to process already. Let’s view this learning in terms of plumbing to outline what “Growing the Learner” means.

If you have 4.5 inches of information flowing through a 4 inch learning pipe, the solution is not to add another inch of information. The answer is to first create a six inch pipe and then an even larger pipe…a never ending expansion of abilities!

Share our 50 years of Experience

When it comes to having a micro business in online publishing, seminars, courses and tours, there are few people with more experience than Merri and me.  Over 49 years we have organized, marketed and conducted thousands of tours for tens of thousands in dozens and dozens of countries (even behind the Iron Curtain).  This course shares how we have done this… what we did right… what we did wrong… and what you can do better.

Super Thinking Goes Way Beyond Spanish

Our training teaches an effective way to teach languages but covers much more many… perhaps all fields of education.

For example. We teach Super Thinking Business seminars that show how these mind expanding tactics can be applied to starting and running a business, to forex trading and investing. Athletes of all types… golfing being one common sport benefit. The Soviet Union… even though a third world country… excelled in the Olympics… as well as beating the USA into outer space… because it integrated FM teaching tactics as developed by Dr. Georgi Lozanov (one of Merri’s teachers) into its educational system.

Our Super Thinking plan goes far beyond Lozanov and allows you to enhance every part of your life.

Persistence III – The Power of the Average Genius

Now is the time to benefit from the power of the average genius.

Belief in dollar cycles and dollar cost averaging can make us average investors geniuses because we’ll be less against the dollar when it’s too high and more when the dollar is a good value.

dollar chart

Click on graph to enlarge.

Last Saturday’s Wall Street Journal article “Dollar Notches Biggest Weekly Loss Against Euro in Three Years” (1)  told how the greenback  had its biggest weekly loss against the Euro in three years.  The dollar was 1.5% weaker against the euro for the day and fell 3% over last week being its biggest loss since October 2011. The WSJ Dollar Index, which measures the dollar against a basket of currencies, ended the week 2.2% lower, the biggest weekly decline in percentage terms since October 2011.

According to the article, this was in part because “Investors’ confidence in the timing of higher U.S. interest rates ebbed”.

The fact that Japan and South Korea have expressed interest in joining the Chinese backed Asian Infrastructure Bank may have also had a negative emotional impact against the dollar.  The U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Australia have decided to participate in this regional bank and despite territorial and economic rivalry between China and its two neighbors, this bank is seen as a potential rival to the World Bank and Asian Development Bank, where the U.S. dollar holds greater sway.  See more on this at the Wall Street Journal article “Japan Says it Could Join China Led Development Bank” (3).

Despite this short term correction, I would not speculate on a falling dollar in the short term.

dollar chart

Click to enlarge.  See a link to the article with this dollar chart (4)

The chart above shows how the US dollar rises and falls in cycles, about six years up, then ten years down. The most recent upwards cycle began in 2010. If the trend continues, dollar investors have three more years to use the rising dollar to pick up assets, stocks, bonds, real estate at a discount because the greenback is strong.

Last week’s dollar weakness could indicate a trend change, but history suggests not.  There is good support for the idea that investors who speculate against the greenback, short term, right now, are likely to lose.

When do we see sudden short term shifts, up or down, as signs of a turn around in the dollar’s trend?

The answer is let’s don’t try to predict any market’s move short term.  Markets are moved short term by emotion and are not predictable.  Markets are moved long term by supply and demand and are predictable.

Develop a long term dollar strategy and stick with it.  The genius of averaging is that we never have to bet too much at any one time in the short term.  Averaging allows us to ignore volatility.  Averaging allows us to be a genius in the long term because we invest the least when prices are too high and we invest the most when prices are too low.

There are numerous ways to invest against the US dollar long term.

One approach is to average investments in the ENR Currency Sandwich Portfolio.  See details at enrasset.com or contact Thomas Fischer at Thomas@enrasset.com

Another way to average is with ETFs that hedge against a strong US dollar. These ETFs started in 2009 and have more than doubled their assets this year to $50.3 billion.  WisdomTree Investments for example offers the Wisdom Tree European Hedge ETF  (symbol HEDJ).  This ETF invests in European equities and hedges exposure to fluctuations between the value of the U.S. dollar and the euro.  This type of investments provides exposure to good value European investment but gives up potential forex gains when the USA dollar falls. The hedge factor also reduces diversification if you do not have other Euro holdings. Learn more at the Wall Street Journal article “Investors Embrace ETFs that Hedge Against a Strong Dollar” (5).

My approach is to average into 22 Good Value developed and emerging markets described in my latest report.

Whichever approach you take, create a long term strategy to invest in what your believe, based on something you know. The belief will encourage tenacity and averaging can reduce fears that come when you have to try and outguess the market short term.

Gary

See Three Trends that have come together to create a huge averaging opportunity now.

The Ultimate Investing Secret

The ultimate investing secret is the simple fact that investment opportunities come and go in cycles.

Because we have been watching the trends for decades, we spot many distortions  we saw decades ago as they create repeat opportunities.  For example, our 1986 report “The Silver Dip” showed readers how to turn $250 into over $45,000 in a year.   When we spotted the same repeat distortion in silver’s price in 2015, we issued our report “Silver Dip 2015”.   Those who acted on the report made as much as 200% in 2016.

There is another phenomenal distortion that has been building for a number of years.   Here is how I (and you can as well) am cashing in on this trend.

“If I Live Long Enough, I’ll really cash in next time”.    I made this promise to myself in the 1980s.   A remarkable set of economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  I invested as much as I could handle then as the profits rolled in for about 17 years.

Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffet explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said: Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

Now I see those circumstances headed our way again.

The Dow Jones Industrial recently soared past 20,000 and reached an all time high.   So why aren’t average investors all rich?   There are several answers.  First, even though the Dow has peaked, for the last 17 years the US stock market has been in a bear trend.  You’ll see why in a moment.  Another reason why the investors have not done so well is because of currency loss.

One final reason why profits have not been so good.  Someone, probably someone you trust, has been stealing from you.

One of the biggest obstacles in profiting from the upcoming circumstances has been and remains the financial system.  The reality is that banks and brokers have been structuring investments that are sure to lose.  They sell you on these investments and then another division of the very same bank (or broker) that recommended the investment, bets against you.   The bank knows that the investment is toxic.  To add insult to injury, many of these same institutions cheat you on the way in and the way out (when you buy and sell a share) of the bad investment.  Most brokers and bankers are interested in your money making them rich, not in helping increase your wealth.

Three Patterns Create 50% profits.

Despite the predators on Wall Street who are waiting to take big gouges out of your savings and wealth, equities are still the best place to invest for the long term.  This chart from the 24 page Keppler Asset Management Asset Allocation Review shows that over the past 80+ years equities have dramatically outperformed other types of investments.

keppler

Good investments require a relentless search for value.   Your investments have to be good enough to reap an outstanding profit even after the parasites siphon off their part.

To take advantage of the once every 17 year circumstances, I chose to track Keppler Asset Management who continually researches developed and emerging markets globally.  Keppler is one of the best market statisticians in the world and numerous very large fund managers use his analysis to manage funds such as State Street Global Advisors.  Keppler compares the value of each share in each market based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.  From this study of monumental amounts of data Keppler develops a Good Value Stock Market Strategies.  The analysis is based on long term, rational, mathematical facts and does not worry about short term ups and downs.

From Keppler I learned that market timing is not the way to get these high profits.  Another graphic from the Keppler Asset Allocation Review explains why.

keppler

A dollar invested 88 years ago in Treasury bills rose to $20.58.  The same dollar invested in U.S. stocks over the 88 years grew to be was worth $4,677, UNLESS you missed the best 43 months.  Literally all of the the Dow’s growth in 1,056 months came in 43 of those months.   Your odds have been one in 24, better than roulette perhaps, but not good enough.  Plus even after these odds, the predators are going to take their cut.  You have to ask, “Am I that good at timing?”

The better alternative to timing is to invest in long term indexing based on value.  Long term strategic investing in market indices reduces the amount of trading.  Low trading activity is important because trades are where investors are most vulnerable to predatory tactics.

A part of the long term strategic trading is to invest in low fee diversified Country Index ETFs.  This simplifies the search for value because it focuses research into lumps.

A comparison of US versus German stock market indexes gives an example of lump research and you can create good value, low cost, diversified portfolios that offer maximum potential for profit as they reduce risk.

Keppler’s research shows that Germany’s stock market is a good value market.  Keppler lumps all the shares (or at least 85% of the shares) into the calculations.  There is no attempt to select any one specific share.  Keppler’s research shows that the US stock market index (a lump of about 85% of all the US shares) is now a poor value.

Germany has the world’s fourth largest economy.  The country is the third largest exporter in the world and has recorded some of the highest trade surplus in the world making it the biggest capital exporter globally.  Yet German shares have been overlooked.  German share prices are good value.

For example, recently the German Stock Market had a relative price to book value ratio of  .78,  a relative price earnings ratio of  0.87 and a relative dividend yield of 1.12.  The US Stock Market has a much higher relative price to book value ratio of 1.29, a relative price earnings ratio of 1.07 and a relative dividend yield of 0.81.  German shares cost much less, compared to the values and earnings.  German shares pay much higher dividends as well.

Keppler predicts that the US Stock Market (which is ranked as a sell market by Keppler) will have an annual index gain for the next five years of  3.1% and a total return (with dividends) or a total five year return of 21.7%.  The same calculations for the German Market predicts an average annual index gain over the next five years of 7.5% and a total return (with dividends) or a total five year return of 47.3%.

Which would you rather buy,  a 47.3% return sold for 78 cents on the dollar or a 21.7% return sold for $1.29 on the dollar?

You can forget about any specific share in the US or Germany and invest into an index (in this case the Morgan Stanley Capital Index) which represents about 85% of all the shares traded on the exchange.

You can invest in ETFs that passively invest in all the shares of the index in stock markets that offer good value.  iShares investment company for example has  an ETF that invests in 85% of the shares traded on Wall Street.

ishres

This ETF is called the iShares USA (symbol EUSA) and in this example rose from $22.91 to $43.40 or 89% in the past five years.

iShares also offers an ETF that invests in about 85% of the stocks listed on the German Stock Exchange (Symbol EWG).  EWG rose  from $19.70 to $28.13  or 42% in the past five years.

ishares

Keppler’s lump research shows that Germany is a good value market.   One simple (even very small) investment in iShares Germany MSCI Index ETF gives you a portfolio  of almost all the shares traded on Germany’s largest stock exchange in Frankfurt.  This ETF is a share traded on the New York Stock Exchange.  The ETF invests in 85% of the shares in Germany.  This ETF is a passive fund that does not try to outperform the growth of the German Stock Market.  The managers simply track the investment results of the MSCI Germany Index.  The MSCI Germany Index is designed to measure the performance of the large and mid cap segments of the German Index which is composed of the stocks of 54 different German companies and covers about 85% of all the German equities.  Germany’s ten largest companies compose about 60% of the index.  These ten companies are:  BAYER (Health Care) composes 9.91% of the index – SIEMENS (Industrials) 7.89% – DAIMLER (Consumer Discretionary) 7.04% – BASF (Materials)  6.81% – ALLIANZ (Financials) 6.65% – SAP STAMM (Info Tech) 5.69% – DEUTSCHE TELEKOM (Telecom Srvcs) 4.46% – DEUTSCHE BANK NAMEN  (Financials) 3.66%  – VOLKSWAGEN VORZUG (Consumer Discretionary) 3.18% – BMW STAM (Consumer Discretionary)  3.15%.

You lump your research.  You lump your investment.  This makes it easy to capture the powerful economic circumstances that are unfolding now.

Just investing in Germany is not enough.  There are currently ten good value developed markets, Australia, Austria, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Norway, Singapore and the United Kingdom.   Plus there are 11 good value emerging markets.  With even a couple of thousand dollars you can easily create a diversified portfolio in each or all of these countries with Country Index ETFs.

Investing in many stock markets through ETFs gives you opportunity in the second pattern of the falling US dollar.  Preserving the purchasing power of your savings and wealth requires currency diversification.

The strength of the US dollar over recent years is a second remarkable similarity to 30 years ago.   In 1980, the dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern has been growing, is seriously overdue and could create up to 50% extra profit if you start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

For example because of fears about the euro, EWG, the German ETF dropped 9 percent in 12 months.  These declines are created by currency concerns.  When the euro regains strength, the shares have the potential to appreciate even more.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns For 50% Profits or More.”  This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but includes links to 153 pages of Keppler Asset Stock Market and Asset Allocation Analysis so you can keep this as simple or as complex as you desire.

The report shows 22 good value investments and a really powerful tactic to use that allows you to accumulate these bargains now even in very small amounts (even $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

Research shows that most people worry about having enough money if they live long enough.   I never thought of that.   I just wanted to live long enough to see the remarkable economic opportunity that started in 1980 come again so I could hot the jackpot.  This powerful profit wave has begun.  I have made the investment myself  suggest you investigate this in my report “Three Currency Patterns For 50% Profits or More.”

Rosaspamba Our Ecuador Sanctuary

Here is a shot taken from the front yard of our Ecuador sanctuary in the Andes.

This land is part of a cloud forest and we are often truly above the clouds!

Many valleys in Ecuador are famous for the longevity of the residents. Our search for such valleys led us to understand that we can use more than landscape to live better, richer and longer.

This article was written on May 2, 2009, on the 41st anniversary of starting my international business.  Yet I plan to keep writing and sharing information for 41 more years!

This was more than an idle boast.  The promise was made from a belief and understanding that  began to grow when we first arrived  in Ecuador and began searching for the longevity valleys there.

We purchased the 962 acre Hacienda Rosaspamba and lived and studied there for nearly a year with a Taita Yatchak and his apprentices.

Mountain mists are important to longevity.  One Ecuador shaman taught us that the hydrogen ions in the mists bond with free radicals on the skin to cleanse the body from the outside in.

Up here in these mountains people in decades and centuries past labored, breathed clean air, drank pure water and ate fresh food. These were hardy mountain people who worked hard, had little, ate little and with that made the most. Life was simple and they kept it that way.

The life here is healthy.

The Worst Dollar Debt Problem

There is a potential that the worst dollar debt problem is expanding. This can erode the dollar’s purchasing power.

US debt problem

US Debt chart from www.factcheck.org

The current dollar debt problem is not what you might imagine.

Roman politics were a lot like those of today.  This allows us to improve the accuracy of our here and now investment predictions by looking at what happened two thousand years ago.   Horace, the son of a freed Roman slave, became one of Rome’s greatest poets waxing eloquently about the virtues of moderation and simplicity.

He is attributed to a great quote that applied to politics and economics then and applies to them now.  That quote:

Adversity reveals genius, prosperity conceals it“.

If there is genius in the US Congress and Executive Administration, an extra flow of cash does not reveal it.  Evidence of this fact is the chart above.

This chart shows that the greatest rise in US debt came immediately after 2000.  A portion of the graphs below from Taxpolicycenter.org table show US receipts, outlays and deficits.   The chart shows that the year 2000 had the largest Federal income surplus since 1945.

In other words the largest flow of income in recent history led to one of the greatest debt increases in recent history.  This suggests that the more money the government gets, the more money the government spends.

Everyone knows about the ebb and flow, the peaks and valleys of all things.  Everyone knows not to base projections based just on peaks… except perhaps a prosperous government.

This is why the Wall Street Journal Article entitled “The Revenue Rolls In” serves a warning.

The article says:  Federal tax receipts are up 8.2%, not counting Fannie Mae’s windfall.

Though the press corps isn’t reporting it, this is turning out to be a boom year for Uncle Sam.  Federal tax revenue is hitting new records, even with mediocre economic growth.  The Congressional Budget Office reports in its April budget update that tax revenues for the first seven months of fiscal 2014 are up 8.2% to $1.74 trillion, or $132 billion more than a year earlier. That’s probably bigger than your raise this year.  Individual tax receipts are up 3.6% due to higher rates, payroll levies are up 12.2% and corporate income taxes have soared by 14.5% to $156 billion.

By the way, this revenue boom doesn’t include $57 billion from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  Thus federal spending looks $57 billion lower in the first seven months than it actually is.  The federal deficit was still $301 billion through April, which is down from $488 billion but should still be much lower five years into an economic expansion. But don’t blame taxpayers, who are certainly doing their part.

This is the warning. The greater the US debt, the more likely the purchasing power of the US dollar will fall.

If your investments and income are purely in US dollars, please know that this is a warning.

Regards,

Gary

Chart from Grandfather Economic Report (2)

Many investors have forgotten about the risk of a falling dollar because the greenback has been strong for the past five years.  This temporary dollar strength came after the great recession of 2009 just as there was temporary dollar strength after the great recession of the 1980s.  Then about six years after the recession, an agreement was made by major governments to weaken the dollar.

There was a severe global economic recession affecting much of the developed world in the late 1970s and early 1980s.  The United States and Japan exited the recession relatively early, but high unemployment would continue to affect Europe and the UK through to at least 1985.  As a consequence between 1980 and 1985, the US dollar had appreciated by about 50% against the Japanese yen, Deutsche mark, French franc and British pound, the currencies of the next four biggest economies at the time. Then the governments reached an agreement and exchange rate values of the dollar versus the yen declined by 51% from 1985 to 1987.

Now the world is again in the same place.  The recession is over.  Europe is a bit behind in recovery and the dollar is 50% higher than before the recession and there is no reason for the greenback to be  strong.

The agreement in 1985 was called the Plaza Accord.   Over just two years the greenback dropped nearly 50% versus other major currencies.  The next accord will generate great profits for those who know what to do while it ruins the purchasing power of dollar back investments.

The strong US dollar and low interest rates have created one of the biggest stock and multi currency breakout opportunities in history.  Learn how to create a plan to profit from multi currency shifts ahead.

One reason for the potential gains is that stock markets and currency values are cyclical.  Due to low interest rates created by the 2009 economic downturn, the US and a few other equity markets have risen to some of their highest prices, ever.  These markets offer very poor value now.  The steep valuation creates incredible profit potential but also hides some enormous risks.  Learn how to develop an investing strategy based of earnings, cash flows, dividends and book values to increase potential for profit and reduce the risks.

Next Extra Profit Created by Value Breakouts

Over the history of US equity markets, the  price of overall markets have risen about 9.1 percent, respectively, compounded annually.  Yet over more than a hundred years of stock market activity,  a majority of the profits have come from just a very few dramatic breakouts.

Equity markets are ruled in the short term by emotions that create unpredictable ups and downs.  Numerous fears of defaults, worries of double dip recessions, high unemployment, concerns about fiscal cliffs, hold investors back.  Yet global population growth and advances in production and prosperity are relentless economic fundamentals that increase value.

When fear holds back a a fundamentally rising value, rising profit potential grows.  Values increase as prices stagnate.  Then markets break free and rocket upwards creating wealth, prosperity and growth.

Learn how to use value as a guide for spotting these breakouts that create fortunes.

Sign up for our current Value Investing Seminar and learn the latest breakout possibilities in global equities, currencies, real estate and commodities.

For example the seminar shows the potential for a breakout of the Singapore dollar.

singapore dollar chart

US dollar rising against Singapore www.finance.yahoo.com chart

The US dollar has been rising without valid economic reasons versus the Singapore dollar since the middle of 2011.  The rise has been especially strong since mid 2014.  This currency distortion creates extra value opportunity because the fundamentals for the Singapore dollar are strong and fundamentals for the US dollar weak.  This is exactly the type of breakout position we look for and share in this seminar.

Here are the currency fundamentals:

US GDP Growth last year: 2.2%

Singapore GDP Growth last year: 2.9%

US current account balance for last year:  -$758 billion or -2.5% of GDP

Singapore current account balance for last year: +$49 billion or +21.2% of GDP

US Budget Balance as % of GDP for last year:  -2.6%

Singapore Budget Balance as % of GDP for last year was a low: -0.7%

US Unemployment: 5%

Singapore Unemployment: 2.0%

US$ Interest Rate 10 year bonds:  2.19%

Singapore $ Interest Rate 10 year bonds: 2.57%

These are economic signs of a currency’s strength.  They show a classic indicator that it is a good time to borrow US dollars and invest in Singapore dollars.

Where to Invest

The seminar reviews many ways to diversify currencies for investors large and small.

For example almost anyone can invest in the Currency Shares Singapore Dollar Trust (FXSG)  managed by Guggenheim Partners.

Guggenheim manages a stable of currency ETFs under the Currency Shares brand.

These ETFs are traded on the New York Stock Exchange so even small investors can diversify in other currencies.

One of the ETFs is the CurrencyShares Singapore Dollar Trust (FXSG).  The investment seeks to reflect the price of the Singapore Dollar.  This provides a low cost, simple, cost-effective means of gaining investment benefits similar to those of holding Singapore Dollars.

Find out which breakouts are likely to take place next.

Merri and I have been able to help readers have better lives, less stress and to make fortunes during up and down markets for over 30 years.  The simple reason for this is that we aim for the really big profits earned at the start of a breakout.

In 2016 I want to kick off the year with you and share why I have confidence and enthusiasm about the breakouts that are near.

Here is a partial syllabus of this online seminar:

International & Value Investing Outside the Box.  This session shows how to take advantage of unusual currency breakouts.

Here is an example.  At our October 2012 seminar we told delegates that the Japanese yen was too strong and was likely to weaken early in the next year. In the next six months, the US dollar rose 13% against the yen.  On December 12, 2012 one USA dollar would buy 82 yen.

finance.yahoo chart

Delegates who acted and sold the yen short picked up an extra 13% forex profit in nine months.

There is a second way they could have earned.  They could have borrowed Japanese yen at a low interest rate (2.5%) and invested the borrowed yen into a Dow Jones Industrial ETF for this six month period.

In this example $100,000 was invested and used as collateral to borrow $100,000 worth of Japanese yen at 2.50%.   The rate was 82 yen per dollar so to get $100,000, 8,200,000 yen was borrowed.

The $200,000 was invested in a Dow Jones Industrial ETF… a mutual fund traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

The ETF rose, along with the Dow, 12.85%.

The Dow as shown in this chart rose over 12% from January to July 2013.

yahoo finance chart

The loan cost per year is $2,500 (2.5% on $100,000).    The $200,000 portfolio rose $25,700 (12.85% of $200,000).  In other words, the $100,000 originally invested grew $23,200 in six months.

That is the positive carry without the forex profit.  Plus there is a forex gain as well.

By July a dollar would buy 100 yen!

To pay off the 8,200,000 loan would have cost $82,000 at the rate of 100 yen per dollar adding another $18,000 of profit.

The portfolio is worth $223,200 less $82,000 loan payoff or $141,200. That translates into a total six month profit of 41.2%.

How to spot value from cycles.  Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics. Cycles create recurring profits. Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns create war.

Here is the war stock cycle.  Military struggles (like the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the Cold War: WWIII) super charge inventiveness that creates new forms of productivity…the steam engine, the internal combustion engine,  production line processes, jet engines, TV, farming techniques, plastics, telephone, computer and lastly during the Cold War, the internet.  The military technology shifts to domestic use.  A boom is created that leads to excess.  Excess leads to correction. Correction creates an economic downturn and again to war.

Learn how the Cyber War (WWIV) may change the way we live and act and how this will affect currencies and investments.

Details in the seminar include:

* How to easily buy global currencies, shares and bonds.

* Trading down and the benefits of investing in real estate in Small Town USA.  We will share why this breakout value is special and why we have been recommending good value real estate in this area since 2009.

* What’s up with gold and silver?  One session looks at my current position on gold and silver and asset protection.  We review the state of the precious metal markets and potential problems ahead for US dollars.  Learn how low interest rates eliminate  opportunity costs of diversification in precious metals and foreign currencies.

* How to improve safety and increase profit with leverage and staying power.  The seminar reveals Warren Buffett’s value investing strategy from research published at Yale University’s website.  This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios), but his big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of outperformance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio, the better the odds of outstanding success.

Learn how much leverage to use.  Leverage is like medicine, the key is dose.  Buffett leverages his portfolio at a ratio of approximately 1.6 to 1.  This rate of expansion by the way is called the “Golden Ratio”.  It is a mathematical formula that controls the growth of most natural things; trees, the shape of leaves, the spiral of shells, as well as the way economies and societies grow.

We’ll sum the strategy, how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on your circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 (almost) years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

Enjoy investing more with slow, worry free, good value investing.  Stress, worry and fear are three of an investor’s worst enemies.  These are major foundations of the Behavior Gap, a trait exhibited by most investors, that causes them to underperform any market they choose.  The behavior gap is created by natural human responses to fear.  The losses created by this gap grow when investors trade short term under stress.

Learn how to put meaning into your investing by creating profitable strategies that combine good value investments with unique, personal goals.

Learn how to span the behavior gap.  Behavior gaps are among the biggest reasons why so many investors fail.  Human evolution makes fear the second most powerful motivator.  (Greed is the third.)  Fear creates investment losses due to behavior gaps.  Fear motivates us more strongly than desire.  By nature investors are risk adverse, when they should embrace risk.  Purpose is the most powerful motivator,  stronger than fear and greed.  One powerful way to overcome the behavior gap is to invest with a purpose.

Combine your needs and capabilities with the secrets and the math of our good value model portfolio.

Share ideas about my good value portfolio.  My personal investment portfolio comes from a continual analysis of international stock markets and a comparison of their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.

Markets included in this portfolio are:

• Norway
• Australia
• Hong Kong
• Japan
• Singapore
• United Kingdom
• Taiwan
• South Korea
• China

These markets have been chosen based on four pillars of valuation.

• Absolute Valuation
• Relative Valuation
• Current versus Historic Valuation
• Current Relative versus Relative Historic Valuation   xxxxxx

The seminar also reveals how to use Country ETFs to easily construct a diversified, risk-controlled, equally weighted representative country portfolios in all of these good value countries.

To achieve this goal my portfolio consists of Country Index ETFs that track an index of shares in a specific country.  These country ETFs provide diversification into a basket of equities in the good value countries.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund as well so such ETFs provide diversification and cost efficiency.

This is an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value because little management and guesswork is required.  You are investing in a diversified portfolio of good value indices.  A BUY rating for an index does NOT imply that any stock in that country is an attractive investment, so you do not have to pick and choose shares.  You can invest in the index which is like investing in all the shares in the index.  All you have to do is invest in an ETF that in turn invests passively in all the shares of the index.

The seminar also discloses the results of a $80,000 share purchase cost test that found the least expensive way to invest in good value.  The keys to this portfolio are good value, low cost, minimal fuss and bother.  Plus a great savings of time.  Trading is minimal, usually not more than one or two shares are bought or sold in a year.  I wanted to find the very least expensive way to create and hold this portfolio so I performed a test.

The Test for Low Cost Trading

Research put every part of this portfolio in place, except knowing the best, easiest and least expensive way to buy.  A search for an optimal way to buy and hold boiled down to two methods.  One tactic to test was to use a unique online broker that appeared to offer the lowest cost deal.  The other approach was to use a community bank in Smalltown USA.  The small town bank that I use looks after my 401K trust account and their service is first class.  The benefit of small banks is that they still treat us as a human beings (instead of a number) and when we need, it’s easy to go right to the top to answer a question or get a problem resolved.  There are no call centers and the bank and the person looking after my account is just around the corner.

I created a test to see which offered the least expensive service.

Working with my banker in Smalltown USA,  I created two accounts, one at the online broker and the other at the bank. I placed $40,000 in each.

I set up the order for the country ETFs online, while my trust manager set up orders for the identical amounts of the same shares in his system.  Then we got on the phone, coordinated our timing and on a count of three each pushed the button “BUY”.

I share the results of this test in the seminar.  The savings you can gain on any purchase of country ETFs has the potential to be more than the cost of the seminar.

I have good news about the cost of the seminar as well.   For almost three decades the seminar fee has been $799.   Now because we have conducted the Value Investing Seminar online, you can save  thousands.  With the webinar, you save the cost of travel and accommodations, plus due to the fact that we don’t have to hire an expensive seminar room, we have dropped the fee from $799 to $297.  You save $502 on the fee alone plus eliminate the cost of travel and accommodations.

Enroll in the current Online Value Investing Seminar for only $297.

You can sign up for all three of the seminars that we’ll conduct this year and save even more.  As markets change we update the Value Investing Seminar, every four months, October, February, May.  Then we conduct the seminar in person in July or August.   The seminar available now has just been updated from our October 2015 seminar.

Multi Dimensional Opportunity

Multi dimensional opportunity earns in numerous ways.

There are many multi dimensional real estate opportunities…. land that offers a low stress, healthy home…  farm income and other profit potential all at the same time.

ecuador-farm

Merri and I aim to create multi dimensional opportunity wherever we live.

In Florida we bought a house and an orange grove next door.  Then we added a rental unit.

In North Carolina we bought a house… then added a seminar center and rental units.

We make each of our houses multi dimensional…a home AND a source of income because governments are going further into debt globally.  This creates serious debt and economic problems everywhere.  Theese burdens means that governments and societies lose their ability to keep their promises.  Multi dimensional earnings can help overcome the risks these conditions create.

A look at government, social and currency breakdown at its worst can help us see ways to invest and do business in such turbulent times.

Germany  is an example when it borrowed heavily to pay WWI costs.  Such borrowing almost always leads to currency and social erosion and this did then.   In the USA and UK too.  Right after the war there was some stability, before government spending began to run wild.  By 1923, it reached the worst  in history. This caused prices to sometimes double in hours.  In Germany by late 1923 it took 200 billion marks to buy a loaf of bread.

Hard-working people with modest spending habits could not even buy a postage stamp with their life savings.   All debt was wiped out but so too were all savings.

Businessmen quit and speculated in stocks and goods instead. Small businesses survived by holding material things such as : clothing, food, anything people could consume.  Salaries were paid three times a day yet shops were empty. Food riots raged. Businesses closed down, unemployment soared. The economy collapsed.

Anyone on a fixed income was destitute. They sold everything just to buy food.

This is why now multi dimensional opportunity makes sense.   You profit from altering utility. You profit tax wise from adding income production.  You gain from having a source of income in a place that you have the best chances of control.  This is why for centuries… small business have had a home upstairs and business below.

Jean Marie Butterlin has created a new Ecuador farm tour for those who have $50,000 or more to invest in a home and small farm.  These tours help find multi dimensional opportunity.
Here is a special multi dimensional coastal farm opportunity he has just shared.

Jean Marie writes: This is very close to latitude zero and also the seashore.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/garyascott/8185003898/in/photostream/

This farmland property had multi dimensional potential and can be developed into an agriculture business but also has subdivision resale potential to people looking for smaller farms and who want to have a seashore view real estate development.

The views are gorgeous. There is plenty of water available and very good soil that is good to grow anything.

Jewels like these are hard to find especially at such a low price.  This farm has  50 hectares (appx. 120 acres) and the asking price is only $3,200 per hectare (appx. $1,300 per acre).

To see this property and more join Jean Marie on a Ecuador farm and real estate tour.  See details and more multi dimensional Ecuador farm properties here.

Those who profit most in changing times are those who add new dimensions to old time proven ways.  Modern technology offers many exciting ways to create multi dimensional profit…. and can earn income at home.

Ecuador Asset Power

Ecuador Asset Power

Perhaps the greatest asset is real flexibility.  Years ago we lived in Ecuador with the Taita Yatchak. Here is a small house that his village built for us.  It was covered in passion flowers!

ecuador-assets

Once in awhile the yatchak would take off for a walk about and the villagers and his family would be amused when we asked “When will he return?”

“No one knows… especially not the Yatchak” they would rely.

I asked him about this once and his response was that when he was hiking around…   events… signs and intuition would lead him and show where to go.  He came back home when he received a sign that was a time to be back.   This of course would drive us Westerners who had appointments and scheduled meetings and clocks crazy!   There is nothing like bringing to meet the yatchak… and he is not around!

But the Andean belief is to let nature be our guide.

Beliefs in India are this way as well. I recall one sage saying that we are in perfect harmony when what nature delivers is exactly what we desire.  We become one with nature… always happy… always pleased.

One quote in the wonderful book “Autobiography of a Yogi” tells how during the British occupation if an enlightened Indian was brought to court and threatened with harsh punishment, he would speak the truth even when a small lie could have eliminated their penalty. This was because they knew… “if you never tell a lie… then whatever you say will be true.”  Such a simple but deeply profound wisdom.

Recent messages have looked at the risks of a breakdown in North American society from an EMP attack.

Numerous readers expressed concern about what to do if one is not in the right place when an attack takes place.  Others worried about neighbors attacking one another or people from the city invading the country.

First please realize that a total breakdown such as described in the various doomsday novels using EMP as the culprit are highly unlikely. Those who suggest that the end of the world is ahead may be trying to panic the public, for whatever reason, just as many did when they promoted nuclear holocausts… Y2K… the Swine or Avian Flu… SARS etc.

Yet… here we are.. humanity, alive… progressing… abundant… and I hope in a holiday mood!

However there are plenty of potential shifts in the global economy and society that are cause for concern.
The problem of global inflation combined with high unemployment (stagflation) created by massive debt in the US, Japan and Europe is one example.

Yet problems are good once we accept the fact that problems and change create opportunity.

Everyone wants a better life… yet most resist change.  How can things get better without change?

I am reminded of the 700 year old motto on the Isle of Man….”Quocunque Jeceris Stabit” which translates literally as “whithersoever you throw it, it will stand.”

Merri and I conducted many real estate tours on the Isle of Man years ago… before prices skyrocketed.   We were there when I published my first novel, “The 65th Octave” and the Manx Prime Minister was kind enough to write a forward for that book.  Many of our readers and tour delegates still live there… having picked up great real estate bargains there in the 1990s… just as they did in Ecuador on early 200o tours.

The Isle of Man (the oldest democracy in the world) is a truly wonderful place and I try to live by its motto… “Whichever way you throw me, I land on my feet.”  Merri and I often look at each other in tough situations and quote this out loud!

Have no doubt, society is getting thrown. Change is accelerating.

So we can choose to benefit from the shifts… or not.

Success, in a faster changing world, comes from “what we are”… not “what we have”.

What we have stored within… not what stuff we have stored is the key to success.

Many messages at this site have focused on the fact that the way to flight inflation and benefit from change is to first improve yourself… your health… your intelligence and your ability to act on what you feel (intuition) as well as what you think (your logic).

Then invest in:  Equities… Commodities… Your Own Business and Real Estate.

Merri and I live by this belief and have invested heavily in Ecuador and Smalltown USA real estate.

We work continuously at improving ourselves and our own small business.

We have expanded our investments in commodities by investing in the direct ownership of timber, water and have now purchased orange groves in Florida.

Merri and I currently do not hold many equities…instead we hold bonds. In the past two years, bonds have acted like equities.  Plus there has been such great opportunity in business and real estate we have not had the time to study shares.  However we continually look for good value equities as well.

Our email courses, seminars and tours focus on these same ideas… improve yourself with quantum health and wealth.  Make yourself wiser… more flexible and more adaptable as you invest in your own internet businessglobal multi currency investments… real estate in small town USA and Ecuador.

Here is an idea for an Ecuador internet business.

Integrate your intuition with your logic.  Turn your passion into profit. The daughter of one of our tour delegates provides a great example.  He attended a number of our conferences last year and I enjoyed watching  him when he was buying goods to export from Ecuador for his daughter’s business. She turned her passion to help poor women around the world into a profitable internet business.

This excerpt from a Country Living article entitled “Nesting Instinct” explains her business success.

Name: Rebecca Kousky
Location: St. Louis, MO
Business: buildanest.com

How did you start Nest?

I graduated at 24 with a master’s degree in social work and I couldn’t decide what I wanted to do next. I applied to several jobs. Then one day I went to a coffee shop and just ended up listing all the things I liked on a sheet of paper and trying to come up with something that fulfilled many of my interests: working with women and children, social activism, international travel, fashion, design, art, and the “green” movement. I knew I was at a point in my life where I could take risks, so I started the business in June (two weeks after graduation), and by August was selling goods from 40 designers. We grew really fast: At our year anniversary, we had 80 designers.

Why this business?

Nest provides micro-credit loans to women in developing nations to help them start art or craft-based businesses. Many of the societies where these women come from are patriarchal — the women’s husbands and fathers handle money, so they are reliant upon them for everything. Working with Nest helps the loan recipients ease into self-sufficiency. Our business model is unique in that we try really hard not just to be a bank; we want to help council the women, learn about their dreams and hopes and family lives. And the women are able to pay back their loans to us by selling their goods on our site.

What’s the best advice you got before launching?

I come from a family of entrepreneurs, so I had lots of support around me. At first, I was really stuck on the idea of having a physical boutique, but the bank denied me a loan. I told my dad what had happened. He asked me how badly I wanted to do this, and when I told him it was what I really wanted, he said then I needed to figure out a way to make it feasible. That’s when I came up with the idea to put Nest online. If you have a dream and a passion for something, you find a way to make it work.

What advice can you give for someone considering starting her own business?

Just to do it! There are a million reasons out there not to do it — for example, everyone thought I should get a job with a stable paycheck after grad school, but I went and started Nest anyway. I didn’t have any experience with online sales or boutiques, but you learn as you go. I realized that it’s good to have a vision, but if you look too far in the future it’s overwhelming. Instead, take one step at a time.

I could not have said this better. Take it one step at a time. Be flexible and adapt…learn… grow…have fun and profit.  Living, investing and serving in this way turns life into one big pleasant walkabout!

Helen Keller expressed how to proceed nicely when she said:  “I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.”

We do not know what the future will bring, but history is on our side.  Despite humanity’s many waves the tide has continued to rise and we can ride this uplift if we develop our greatest asset.

Until next message, may all your problems be good.

Ecuador & the US Dollar

Ecuador and the US dollar.

A Canadian reader recently sent this question about Ecuador and the US dollar.

I am hoping our Canadian dollar gains on the US dollar so we stretch our purchasing power in Ecuador.  Could you give me a better idea of the potential for this?

An excerpt from one of our recent Multi Currency updates outlines my belief that long term the US dollar will fall. I sent my multi currency readers this note:

With my recent US dollar loans the currency allocation in my liquid portfolio is:

US$  -2.0%
CAD  6.0%
NZD  6.0%
AUD   6.0%
$ Bloc   16.0%

GBP   8.0%
DKK  10.0%
SEK   4.0%
EURO 39.0%
Euro bloc 61.0%

TRY 6.0%
HUF 7.0%
BRL 6.0%
EMCS 6.0%
Emg Curr  25.0%

This represents a large overweighting in the euro and related currencies.

A recent note from a British reader explains why I have so many euros.   The  reader sent this note:

We Europeans wake with a new President elect tomorrow: President van Rompuy (currently Belgian Prime minister).

He may not have quite the charisma of President Obama but he will now lead the European Union, the largest economic power in the world. Consider:

-The European Union’s GDP ($18.9trillion) is larger than the United States ($14.5 trillion) and China ($4.3 trillion) COMBINED
-van R represents 492 million citizens
-EU is the world’s largest aid donor
-world’s second longest coast-line helping establish it as the world’s largest importer and exporter
-Home to more global cities than any other region in the world

Yet…

We have not had a chance to vote for van Rompuy of course, no surprise as the EU is the world’s largest elite driven technocracy that is (in my humble opinion) transforming Westminster, the mother of all Parliaments into a regional Assembly and squeezing the life out of accountable democracy like a giant multi-headed serpent that speaks 145 different languages.

Consider:

-75% of new environmental law comes from the EU
-EU law is now supreme law and trumps national law in all EU countries
-Do you know who your MEP is or what they get up to in Brussels?
-The EU elite has largely refused to let its citizens vote via referenda on the relentless expansion of EU powers and effective end of national soverignty (and where there have been referenda i.e. Ireland: have refused to take no for an answer, bullying second referenda until they say Yes)

So, awake and all hail President elect van the man Rompuy, a new global Giant, the dawn of a new era. A thrilling day for the Euro Elite, a sad day for democracy.  Thanks God.  At least it wasn’t Tony Blair.

I believe the Canadian dollar will appreciate against the US dollar… but not as much as emerging and European currencies.  To protect the purchasing power of one’s currency… diversify out of the US dollar.   My portfolio above shows that I am voting with my money as well as my mouth.

Here is a chart from finance.yahoo.com of the Canadian dollar versus the US dollar.

Here is the US dollar versus the euro for the past five years.

Whichever currencies you choose for diversification… the charts are pretty clear.  The US dollar is headed down and has not yet reached its previous low.

However to not forget that I believe that all currencies will lose purchasing power. This is why I have Ecuador houses and…

and Ecuador condos in my portfolio.

There are four ways to combat the loss of global currency purchasing power.  Invest in global shares… commodities… real estate and/or have your own business.  This is why we offer our emailed course “Tangled Web… How to Have Your Own Internet Business”.

Ecuador Silver Opportunities

Silver Opportunities in Ecuador go beyond silver itself.

Silver is beautiful and offers great opportunity as jewelry and other art.  Ecuador Silver artisans do wonderful work at low prices.

Ecuador silver can surely be sold via the internet.

Here is how Ecuadormall.com sells Ecuador silver.

ecuador-silver

Yet silver offers other types of opportunity because silver is more than just metal for jewelry.

Here is one example of how one reader of many years, Steve Barwick, markets information on colloidal silver and wrote about our internet course.

This reader was a professional copywriter for many years. He lives far from anywhere also…deep in California ’s desert. One day his copyrighting business introduced him to the healing power of colloidal silver. He was enthused and wanted to sell this product… but found he could not… too many rules too many regulations and a medical establishment that did not want simple health solutions available to the public.

This highlights the power of publishing. Steve felt he could not manufacture and sell colloidal silver… but he could self publish information about how to make and use it. No matter how much big business wanted to stop him, it could not interfere with the freedom of the press.

So for years he marketed this wonderful product until I began writing about the power of internet self publishing. From here, I’ll let this reader tell the story himself.

Here is the unsolicited note he sent:

“Gary ! I really do enjoy getting your emails each morning before I start my day, and when they stop coming, I miss them immediately.

“Over the last few days I’ve been thinking about why I read your emails so frequently, compared to the literally dozens of other email communications I receive from a variety of business and marketing “gurus,” which I mostly skip. If you don’t mind, I’ll take a moment to tell you what I feel sets you apart from the rest of the herd:

“First, your insights into the “small, slow and steady” way of doing business act as a much needed check on my tendency to take on too much work in the course of my business day and wear myself out. Reading your emails the first thing in the mornings always seems to help keep me focused and well-grounded.

“The other “gurus” are always talking about going “big, big, big” and shooting for the moon. And I must admit, there is a part of me that wants to run a business empire. But every time I fall into that trap I pay a hefty price for it, physically, emotionally and financially. I am a walking testament to the business truths you have taught over and over again; I always do best in my business by staying as lean as possible, and staying focused and relaxed by working on what I love the most.

“Secondly, the always friendly and personal nature of your emails are a very welcome respite from the often manipulative and insincere nature of the email communications I am bombarded with from other “gurus.” I love getting emails that feel like they are coming from a good friend who always has an eye out for opportunities I might be interested in. I can’t stand getting emails from people who come on like sideshow con artists and carney barkers.

“Third, your emails always tend to reflect your positive and uplifting spirit, and serve as reminders for me to keep a cheerful and positive outlook at all times, even during the most challenging of business days. I don’t always succeed at this. But it always gives me something to shoot for. To paraphrase Jack Nicholson in “As Good as it Gets,” your daily emails make me want to be a better person, both in my business and personal life.

“Finally, my wife and I usually sit down at the end of each business day and briefly review the events of the day with each other. We mostly discuss anything new we’ve learned, and better ways of getting important tasks accomplished. And as she will tell you, many have been the times that the conversation has started off with the phrase, “Today, Gary Scott said…” I don’t tell you that to flatter you. It’s just the way it is. I don’t always agree with everything you say. But I do learn from everything you say.

“By the way, I really must tell you one more thing that has me really excited. I want you to know about it, because you played a prominent role in helping me get over a huge hurdle that has, as a direct result, increased our company business by well over $100,000 a year.

“As you know, I’m an old direct mail hand from way back. So I focus the vast majority of my attention on marketing my company’s products through direct mail marketing, much as you used to. And over the years Kathy and I have done really well at it. We’ve made a very good living. Our house and property are paid for. We have nice cars. Some decent investments. Plenty of money in the bank. Etc. But as I’ve read more and more of your emails on internet marketing, it has inspired me to dedicate a little bit more time to our main web site, rather than focusing so exclusively on direct mail.

“Our main web site (the one that features our colloidal silver generators and nutritional supplements) was a real mess and only did about $1,200 worth of sales a month. All my focus was on all of the money we were making through our direct mail sales campaigns. But as I read your emails about how you and Merri made the shift from direct mail marketing to internet marketing, the idea of making the web site work better kept nagging at me.

“So earlier this year I attended a few local (and very expensive) seminars on internet marketing, and made some dramatic changes to the web site based upon what I’d learned. After much work (i.e., new photos, new design, new sales copy, new shopping cart, and some experimentation with Yahoo pay-per-click) that took many months worth of hard work and many thousands of dollars more to complete, I managed to triple the income the web site was generating. Big deal. The end result was that we went from $1,200/month to $3,600/month in sales, which was pretty weenie compared to what I had expected.

“I was disappointed. But I kept coming back to your emails which discussed the importance of telling a story, and developing a relationship with your customers. Something in what you were saying rang true. But you know me: I’m a hardcore salesman from the old days, who believes in going straight for the sale. None of this “storytelling” and “relationship” stuff for me. In short, I was very reluctant to change what has always worked so well for me for the past 27 years of my direct mail marketing career.

“To make a long story short, my disappointment in the results from my web site changes forced me to analyze what went wrong. Your words about this being the “era of the story” kept reverberating in my mind. I finally broke down and wrote what I called a “folksy” story about how Kathy and I first found out about colloidal silver, and how we got into the colloidal silver generator business. I took the advice you so often give in your emails on internet marketing, and tried to write our story specifically from the point of view of helping potential customers learn and benefit from our experiences, rather than trying to sell them anything. In fact, I eliminated from the story all efforts at selling any products whatsoever, and just wrote to educate and inform the reader.

“I have to admit, when the story was finished I just couldn’t bring myself to post it to the web site. It was just too far off course from what has always worked for me in the past, in terms of sales and marketing. I’ve always been a hard-core “wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am” sales writer, as you well know.

“But I kept coming back to your emails on using storytelling to develop an ongoing relationship with your customers. And finally it dawned on me that one of the most delightful things that always keeps me eager to read your emails each day, and visit your web site from time to time, and try your products when they strike my fancy or suit my needs, is the endearing stories you tell about your work, your business history, your personal experiences, and the experiences of the people you have either worked with in the past or have surrounded yourself with in the present.

“So I decided to give it a try. I took our home page – which was a hard-sell, straight-for-the-jugular sales pitch — and made it page number two of the web site, instead. And in its place I put up our “folksy” story as the new home page. Then I held my breath. I really thought web site sales would plummet. After all, making this change meant our entire home page would sell…absolutely nothing. It just told our story. For the life of me, I couldn’t imagine that anyone searching on the internet to buy a colloidal silver generator would want to stop and read our story first.

“Well…it’s now been three months since replacing our “hard-sell” home page with our “folksy story” home page, and here’s the good news: That one simple change has nearly tripled our internet sales. I’m not kidding you, Gary. We are now doing on average $8,000 a month in internet sales alone! In November, we did a whopping $12,163.55 in gross sales through the web site. That’s $145,962.60 in gross product sales, on an annualized basis. Now those are some numbers that really get me excited!

“What’s more, the web site stats show that replacing the former “hard sell” home page with our new “folksy story” home page increased our web site stickiness (i.e., the amount of time people spend on our site) by a factor of ten. People spend far more time on the web site now that our “folksy story” is our home page. And the stats demonstrate that they are actually visiting more of the other pages on our web site than ever before.

“Thanks to you, we have dramatically increased our online sales, with no extra effort other than simply telling our story.

“By the way, in order to keep in touch with our new online customers, we will soon launch a daily email service alerting them to the latest research and information on staying healthy and well with colloidal silver and the various nutritional supplements we carry. We hope we can engender through our emails the same kind of supportive, educational and enlightening atmosphere you’ve been able to engender for your readers, through your daily emails.

“Regards always, Steve Barwick, TheSilverEdge.com”

Reading Steve’s note was gratifying to say the least, but it also stressed three important facts about business today.

Point #1: The internet can dramatically boost your income with minimal investment in time cost and expense.

Plus Steve shared here one really smart way to get exposure for your website. Send a positive note to editors of other publications and when you sign it, be sure to put your web site address at the bottom. Smart move Steve! He has a powerful product that anyone who is interested in health beyond the MD should know.

Point #2: Self publishing is a powerful way to use the internet and can be enormously profitable. Steve is adding income at a rate of an extra $12,000 a month. Yet as he incorporates ideas we give him, he may reach higher and higher sales levels. Our internet sales alone yesterday were $13,240…in one day. Yet we have no full time staff and few overheads as we run this business from a bedroom in our house.

Point #3: A big part of the world has become disgusted with the dishonest hidden agendas of big business. If you have a small business providing a good service that you love giving…and just tell it like it really is…the world will beat a path to your door. Not the whole world perhaps but a world that’s plenty big enough to bring you enormous wealth and self fulfillment!

You can see how Steve sells colloidal silver here.

Green International Investments in a EMP Terrorist Attack

Green international investments can help investors prosper due to the threat of an EMP terrorist attack.

Tuesday’s message at this site saw seven steps that could help us survive and prosper in a new era that could unfold due to a terrorist EMP attack.

Yesterday’s message looked at the importance of securing food in an EMP terrorist attack.

This threat of a terrorist EMP attack could accelerate opportunity in green international investments.

We’ll look at these in a minute… plus some Ecuador real estate plus how the risk of  a energy grid shut down could accelerate green investments.

First… let me reiterate… I do not think the sky is falling.  The sun always shines somewhere and the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.  God…Nature or whatever you wish to call your Higher Being always takes care of us.

May I quote a wonderful passage about this from  John James Ingalls (a Senator from Kansas 1873 to 1891), address in “In Praise of Blue Grass.”

Grass is the forgiveness of nature–her constant benediction.  Fields trampled with battle, saturated with blood, torn with the ruts of cannon, grow green again with grass, and carnage is forgotten.  Streets abandoned by traffic become grass-grown like rural lanes, and are obliterated.  Forests decay, harvests perish, flowers vanish, but grass is immortal.  Beleaguered by the sullen hosts of winter, it withdraws into the impregnable fortress of its subterranean vitality, and emerges upon the first solicitation of Spring.  Sown by the winds, by wandering birds, propagated by the subtle horticulture of the elements which are its ministers and servants, it softens the rude outline of the world.  Its tenacious fibres hold the earth in its place, and prevent its soluble components from washing into the wasting sea.  It invades the solitude of deserts, climbs the inaccessible slopes and forbidding pinnacles of mountains, modifies climates, and determines the history, character, and destiny of nations.  Unobtrusive and patient, it has immortal vigor and aggression.  Banished from the thoroughfare and the field, it bides its time to return, and when vigilance is relaxed, or the dynasty has perished, it silently resumes the throne from which it has been expelled, but which it never abdicates.  It bears no blazonry or bloom to charm the senses with fragrance or splendor, but its homely hue is more enchanting than the lily or the rose.  It yields no fruit in earth or air, and yet should its harvest fail for a single year, famine would depopulate the world.

Our horses here at our Blue Ridge farm really believe this.

international-investing

They are allowed to roam the farm freely except in our front yard.  But once a year, in the autumn, we let them in.

international-investing

They crop and fertilize the lawn. This makes the horses really happy.

They love chomping, lying, rolling and sleeping in the grass.

international-investing

Play in the grass

Blaze, the oldest, relaxes so much that when I sent this picture to our grandson Garren, he panicked thinking that Blaze was dead.

international-investing

He’s not. Up he came…

international-investing

On the subject of international investing and grass. I finally received my new Neuton weed eater.

international-investing

This is a neat machine.

international-opportunity

I have been using a Neuton electric lawn mower and when I ordered this weed eater they were 1,500 orders behind!

This shows the demand for green products.

Neuton says at its website: We are dedicated to making the world’s most innovative and dependable battery-powered lawn and garden equipment for people who care about the maintenance of their properties and the health of our environment.  Our forward-thinking designs reduce the noise and pollution of traditional gas power equipment, making yard work more enjoyable. Consistent with these goals, a portion of our profits are donated to community organizations working to clean our air.

Using innovative designs in rechargeable, battery-powered products we¹re developing unique and reliable tools that are easy to use and are easy on the environment. And together with our customers, we¹re redefining the way people care for their properties.

Designed in Vermont

Neuton battery-powered mowers are a reflection of the simplicity, ingenuity and values that define Vermont. At their core, Neuton battery-powered mowers are:

* Hard working – providing high powered cutting capacity with professional results
* Simple – delivering an ease of use and storage you won’t find elsewhere
* Responsible – exhibiting a profound respect for the environment

* A cleaner and more efficient way to mow your lawn. In fact, Forbes magazine recently rated Vermont the number one “Greenest State.”

Neuton and the Environment
Neuton battery-powered mowers are the #1 selling battery-powered mowers on the planet. Our belief in the environmental benefits of Neuton is a strong one. We call it our Clean Air Initiative.

Since we started, we have subsidized the purchase of thousands of Neutons across America in exchange for dirty/gas-guzzling mowers. In Southern California alone, 16,000 residents have replaced their mowers with Neutons. The result has been a staggering emissions reduction of 600 tons per year.

And with Neuton, reducing environmental impact extends even further.  The Noise Pollution Clearinghouse rated Neuton the quietest rotary mower you can buy.

The bottom line is you get big-time results, while leaving behind a small environmental footprint.

Neuton’s success shows the potential for green products.  The threat of an EMP terrorist attack has the potential to accelerate the value of green investments because it could shut down North America’s national energy grid.  Tis may speed up the development and use of individual energy systems.

Neuton is not a public company so we cannot buy shares, but tomorrow’s message looks at how to take advantage of good international green opportunity.

The risk of an EMP attack also accelerates demand for Ecuador real estate.

See for example how this sloping 10 acre corn field with outstanding 360 degree views, offers extra opportunity at Cotacachi real estate tours.

Let’s share ways and lifestyle alterations that protect as they provide joy, satisfaction, better health and enhanced wealth.

You may not be able to (or want) to move your home abroad or to a rural area.   Yet gardening, even in urban areas,  can be healthy and fun.  Holding some precious metals is probably a good investment anyway.  We should be taking care of our health even when their is no threat of war.

When it comes to holding assets abroad… our multi currency course can help.

Food in a Terrorist EMP Crisis

Finding food and water could be a problem in a terrorist EMP crisis.

Tuesday’s message at this site saw seven steps that could help us survive and prosper in a new era that could unfold if there would be a terrorist EMP attack.

#1:  Move well away from the USA…. to an agriculturally based country.  This is one reason Merri and I have been active in Ecuador for nearly 15 years.
#2: Move to Small Town USA.  Our sites have been looking at the benefits of this for years and why we live on an agricultural property.
#3: Create your own source of food & water.
#4: Create a local source of hardened energy and communications.
#5: Keep some gold and or silver on hand.
#6: Know how to take care of your own health.
#7:  Hold some assets outside of North America.

We’ll look at some Ecuador food property below.  First, this message looks at some ideas that can help us improve our odds of having access to food and water in a terrorist EMP crisis wherever we are.

May I share three important points up front?

Point #1: I do not think (or maybe hope) that a crisis of serious magnitude will take place in our lifetime.

Point #2: Yet one could… so I try to be somewhat prepared… without jerking my entire life out of joint.

Point #3:  None of the steps that Merri and I have taken below have anything to do with expecting a terrorist crisis.  One cannot foresee all the consequences of a maximum magnitude terrorist crisis. Trying to do so is inefficient… and wastes time. History suggests that humanity always figures out how to avoid the big terrorist crunch… and/or adapts when the terrorists attack.

Merri and I try to live our life down the path we feel we are led… enjoy it… prepare reasonably and then leave the rest in the hands of God.

Let’s look at what we have done about food and water.   Then recognizing that most of mankind does not or cannot live in places as isolated as ours, we’ll look at some more urban alternatives.

Our North Carolina farm can certainly provide all the food and water a family needs.  Many generations who lived here have proved this fact.

Yet it is our love for this life and the people of the Blue Ridge that brought and keeps us here part of each year…. not security from a terrorist attack.

This is a side benefit that this lifestyle provides us with an independent source of food…. domestic and wild.

On the wild side we see…

know-your-food

wild turkeys in our front yard…

know-your-food

often.  This is a normal scene that I photographed. There were 15 turkeys in this flock… all cruising across our front yard.

I expect we could have plenty of venison…

know-your-food

like these deer I photoed in our front yard.  I recently placed my wildlife camera up the hill from the house and…

know-your-food

in a couple days…

had pictures of 20 deer or so including this small forked horn. We saw two big bucks, (a big four point and six point) walking together on a recent walk.

Plus the creek is full of trout.  Here are a couple I stuck on one of our cabins.

We have a pond also…

that helps us on the domestic side, raising fish and ducks that…

grow!

Not to mention our geese.

We never buy eggs because…

our chickens lay more than we can eat and the flock…

grows and…

grows and grows.

We have built a new varmint proof (I hope) pen that…

includes a greenhouse sitting in a sunny spot so the chickens remain warm (and laying) though winter’s cold.

Speaking of the greenhouse, we can grow greens and vegetables though the winter, plus…

know-your-food

we have many apples and acres of blackberries, plus a storage place to keep them with our potatoes… plus

pumpkins and squash and…

sunflowers grow really well here.  We especially focus on spaghetti squash as it stores through the winter in this potato cellar.

Water.  Our creek starts at the top of our farm with many springs like this.

Water is everywhere… pure… clean, seeping and trickling out of the rocks so by the time it reaches the lower part it is…

this.

If a terrorist attack knocked out all forms of domestic energy, we would not even give up our hot baths since this…

We have transportation.

and raise fish and grow greens in our back yard.

We were doing all this before Merri and I had a clue about EMPs and the risk of a terrorist attack.

What can one do… if… you do not want to live on a farm?

There are options.

One option is an urban farm. A recent AP article entitled “USDA to Unveil “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food” Initiative” by Ken Meter provides some clues. Here are excerpts from this article.   As I prepare for five days of announcements next week, when USDA plans to unveil its new “Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food” initiative, the buzz across my desk is about the potential for urban agriculture.  EPA reminds that brownfield moneys can be used to convert polluted land into working farms in inner-city areas.  I think the potential is enormous, especially in formerly industrial cities, where the big factories are not going to come back, but there are large tracts of vacant land that already have water mains (think irrigation) running under them. Each of these cities spends billions of dollars for food, and can generate significant local income by building the farms and distribution channels needed to cycle that food within city borders. We’ll also need to grow new urban farmers, and tap the excellent skills that many new immigrants already have in growing food.

Did you know that forty-one percent of all U.S. agricultural commodities are sold from farms in metropolitan counties?  Were you aware that 55% of the money made from producing farm commodities was made in metropolitan areas in 2007 ($15.7 billion of $28.7 billion)?  Moreover, Department of Defense studies show that Victory Gardens during World War II produced 40% of all produce consumed by Americans, after two seasons of gardening. This shows the potential for small-scale activity adding up to a big difference.

Gardening can provide food… plus it is good for you.  I believe living on a farm has helped my health.  Walking a lot is good. Working in fresh air can’t be bad.

If you can’t or don’t want to garden… how about participating in Community Assisted Agriculture (CSA)?

Here is an article from the Local Harvest website which I have linked below.

Thinking about signing up for a CSA but want to learn more about the idea before you commit? Read on.  Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of “shares” to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a “membership” or a “subscription”) and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season.

This arrangement creates several rewards for both the farmer and the consumer. In brief…

Advantages for farmers:

•    Get to spend time marketing the food early in the year, before their 16 hour days in the field begin
•    Receive payment early in the season, which helps with the farm’s cash flow
•    Have an opportunity to get to know the people who eat the food they grow

Advantages for consumers:

•    Eat ultra-fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits
•    Get exposed to new vegetables and new ways of cooking
•    Usually get to visit the farm at least once a season
•    Find that kids typically favor food from “their” farm – even veggies they’ve never been known to eat
•    Develop a relationship with the farmer who grows their food and learn more about how food is grown

It’s a simple enough idea, but its impact has been profound. Tens of thousands of families have joined CSAs, and in some areas of the country there is more demand than there are CSA farms to fill it. The government does not track CSAs, so there is no official count of how many CSAs there are in the U.S.. LocalHarvest has the most comprehensive directory of CSA farms, with over 2,500 listed in our grassroots database. In 2008, 557 CSAs signed up with LocalHarvest, and in the first two months of 2009, an additional 300 CSAs joined the site.

The many of you who have, or plan to join us in Ecuador gain added food security because Ecuador is such an agricultural country. See more on this at Ecuador Food.

There are many Ecuador agricultural properties for sale at low prices. Here is an Ecuador avocado farm for sale. Here is the farm house and workers house from the back.

The sky is not falling. Yet it could… because of a terrorist EMP attack.  So it makes sense to find enjoyable, healthy ways to live that also ensure your supply of food and water.
