Enjoy the Good “New” Days

Gain value in health, income and investing over the next year.

Many people yearn for a return to the good old days.  This is a mistake.  Those days are gone and will never return.  Honestly they really weren’t that good.  We would be sorry if they returned.

The future is better and for a special few, the days, months and years ahead will be much better than the past.  We plan to be among these few and invite you to join us in an easier, freer, richer, safer world.

Merri and I are in our 48th year of living, working, investing and researching to find and share ideas on how to have simpler, low stress, healthier, more affluent lifestyles.  Our courses, reports and email messages look at ways to gain:

#1:  Low cost natural health.

#2:  Global micro business income so we can live anywhere but earn everywhere.

#3:  Safer, more profitable, easy to make value investments.

Many readers use our services for just one of these three benefits.  They focus only on health or on earning more or on investing better.

27 years ago Merri and I created the International Club as a way for readers to join us and be immersed in all three of these benefits  The International Club is a year long learning program aimed at helping members earn worry free income, have better affordable good health and gain extra safety and profits with value investments.

The three disciplines, health, earning and investing, work best when coordinated together.  Regretfully the attacks on our health, pur finances and our freedom are realities of life.  There is little we can do to change this big picture.  However we can change how we care for our health, how we earn and how we save so that we are among the few who live better despite the dollar’s fall.

We start with better lower cost health care.

Club membership begins by sharing ways to be free of the “Secret Hospital Charge Master”.   Just as governments hide truth behind “National Security”, big health care businesses hide medical truths behind “Charge masters”.  Most hospital charge masters are secret because big business does not want us to know how much hospital costs have risen.  Motivations beyond our good health, like corporate greed, want to keep us in the dark about health care cost.

Despite rising health care costs, a report from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention shows that hospitals are the last place we want to be for good health.  One report shows that hospital-acquired infections alone kills 57% more Americans every year than all car accidents and falls put together.

Often, what patients catch in the hospital can be worse than what sent them there.  Governments and health care agencies agree  – antibiotic resistance is a “nightmare.”  An antibiotic-resistant bacteria may be spreading in more hospitals than patients know.  About one in every 25 hospitalized patients gets an infection and a 2013 report from the Journal of Patient Safety showed that medical errors are the third-leading cause of death in the country.

Along with the risk of hospital acquired illness and medical errors, the second huge threat to our well being… is health care costs, especially at hospitals.  This is why charge masters are so often secret.  There are few risks to our wealth that are greater than a hospital stay.

I have created three shamanic health reports are about:

#1: Nutrition

#2: Purification

#3: Exercise

Each report is available for $19.95.  However club members receive these three reports worth $59.85 free.

Club members also receive seven workshops and courses on how earn everywhere with at home micro businesses.  We call this our “Live Well and Free Anywhere Program”.   The program contains a series of courses and reports that show ways to earn and be free. These courses and reports are:

  • “International Business Made EZ”
  • “Self Fulfilled – How to Write to Sell”
  • Video Workshop by our webmaster David Cross,
  • The entire weekend “Writer’s Camp” in MP3
  • The report “How to Raise Money Abroad”
  • Report and MP3 Workshop “How to Gain Added Success With Relaxed Concentration”
  • The course “Event-Full – How to Earn Conducting Seminars and Tours”

This program is offered at $299, but is available to club members free. They save $299 more.

Next, club members participate in an intensive program called the Purposeful investing Course (Pi).  The purpose of Pi is finding value investments that increase safety and profit.  Learn Slow, Worry Free, Good Value Investing.

Stress, worry and fear are three of an investor’s worst enemies.  These destroyers of wealth can create a Behavior Gap, that causes investors to underperform in any market good or bad.  The behavior gap is created by natural human responses to fear.  Pi helps create profitable strategies that avoid losses from this gap.

Lessons from Pi are based on the creation and management of a Primary Pi Model Portfolio, called the Pifolio.  There are no secrets about this portfolio except that it ignores the stories from economic news (often created by someone with vested interests) and is based mainly on good math that reveals the truth through financial news.

The Pifolio is a theoretical portfolio of MSCI Country Benchmark Index ETFs that cover all the good value markets using my 50 years of global experience and my study of the analysis of four mathematical investing geniuses (and friends).

There are seven layers of tactics in the Pi strategy.

Pi Tactic #1: Determine purpose and good value.

Pi Tactic #2: Diversify 70% to 80% of portfolio equally in good value developed markets.

Pi Tactic #3: Invest 20% to 30% equally in good value emerging markets.

Pi Tactic  #4:  Use trending algorithms to buy sell or hold these markets.

Pi Tactic  #5:  Add spice speculating with ideal conditions.

Pi Tactic  #6: Add spice speculating with leverage.

Pi Tactic  #7:  Add spice speculating with forex potential.

We combine the research of several brilliant mathematicians and money managers with my years of investing experience.

This is a complete and continual study of what to do about the movement of international major and emerging stock markets.  I want to share this study throughout the next year with you.

Pi opens insights to numerous long term cycles that most investors miss because they have not been investing long enough to see them.

The Pi subscription is normally $299 per annum but club member receive Pi at no charge and save an additional $299.

Plus get the $39.99 report, “The Silver Dip 2017” free.

With investors watching global stock markets bounce up and down, many missed two really important profit generating events.  The price of silver dipped below $14 an ounce as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).   The second event is that the silver gold ratio hit 80 and has remained near this level, compared to a range of the 230s only two years ago.

These two events are a strong sign to invest in precious metals.

I prepared a special report “Silver Dip 2015” and updated this in 2017.   The report explains the exact conditions you need to make leveraged silver & gold speculations that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The purpose of the report is to share long term lessons about speculating in precious metals gained through 30 years of speculating and investing in gold and silver.

The low price of silver offers special value now so I want to send you this report because the “Silver Dip 2017” offers enormous profit potential in 2017.

The report “Silver Dip 2017” sells for $39.95 but club members receive it free as well.

The $39.95 new “Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere Report” is also free.

There is an incredible new economy that’s opening for those who know what to do.  There are great new opportunities and many of them offer enormous income potential but also work well in disaster scenarios.

There are are specific places where you can reduce your living expenses and easily increase your income.  Scientific research has shown that being in such places actually make you smarter and healthier.  Top this off with the fact that they provide tax benefits as well and you have to ask, “Where are these places?”.

Learn about these specific places.  More important learn what makes them special.  Discover seven freedom producing steps that you can use to find other similar places of opportunity.

The report includes a tax and career plan broken into four age groups, before you finish school, from age 25 to 50 – age 50-to 65 and what to do when you reach the age where tradition wants you to re-tire.  (Another clue-you do not need to retire and probably should not!)

The report is very specific because it describes what Merri and I, our children and even my sister and thousands of our readers have done and are doing, right now.

Live Anywhere – Earn Everywhere focuses on a system that takes advantage of living in Smalltown USA, but earning locally and globally.

This report is available online for $39.99 but International Club members receive it free.

Profit from the US dollar’s fall.

In the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffett explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said:  Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

Club members receive a report about opportunity in the  current strength of the US dollar is a second remarkable similarity to 30 years ago.   The dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern is growing and could create up to 50% extra profit if we start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but included links to 153 pages of  Good Value Stock Market research and Asset Allocation Analysis.

The report shows 20 good value investments and a really powerful tactic that shows the most effective and least expensive way to accumulate these bargains in large or even very small amounts (less than $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

This report sells for $29.95 but when you become a club member you receive the report, “Three Currency Patterns For 50% Profits or More” FREE.

You save $418.78… “plus more” when you become a club member.   The ind=formation you receive is urgent now because any day now you may be reading… again, about how instability in the US dollar threatens our lifestyles.  The dollar, once the world’s reserve currency is burdened with debt and deficits that threaten economic and social order almost everywhere.  This is nothing new.  In fact, deterioration in the greenback is one reason for a seven decade downward spiral in your and my freedom.  When we work hard and save carefully, but get less and less in return, we become boxed in.  It’s a never ending rat race.  This is a trap, a downwards spiral where the more dollars we get the less we can buy.

Belonging to the International Club helps you learn how to have more freedom and time, less stress, better health care, extra income, greater safety and profit in your savings despite America’s deficits, debt and currency risk.

downwards spiral

A downward spiral of the US dollar began the downward spiral of our freedom.

Fortunately the reports and courses you receive  contain secrets that will allow a few to live much better, free of debt and worry despite the decline in the dollar’s purchasing power.   My wife Merri and I have traveled, lived, worked and invested around the world for nearly 50 years to gain this information.  Let me share the basics of this data and how it can help you.

The first fact behind this secret is that things are really good in the western world.  Despite the many problems, we are surrounded by more abundance and greater opportunity than almost anyone has ever enjoyed, anywhere, ever.   To enjoy a fair share of this wealth, all we have to do is understand human nature and learn how to invest in the new economy, as it changes and becomes new, again and again.  Merri and I have made seven huge transitions in the 50 years.  Each has allowed us to always stay ahead of losses that the majority of Americans suffer.  We are in another transition right now and want to share why and what to do so all of us can stay ahead and live a richer, independent life, too.

The concept of democracy, as we learned it, has weakened, but we still have free will and do not have to let poor government, wars, economic and social injustice blur our well-being.  We can still be free and responsible for our health, our income and our wealth.  The majority of people blame on government and big business for economic failure.  They want them to fix the problems, step back from the change and rebuild from what they perceive as ruin.

The few who succeed see change as a gift instead.   No change is a guarantee that nothing gets better.  Evolution brings destructive innovation but such change is not ruin. It is opportunity.

The change in the purchasing power of the US dollar is one of the greatest risks we have to our independence, safety, health, and wealth, but is also a chance for huge profit as you can see below.   Though the greenback has been strong for a number of years, its strength is in serious jeopardy.  The growing federal deficits increase the national debt and this with rising interest rates propels a growing debt service.

When the Dow Jones Industrial Average recently passed 20,000, another milestone of “20” took place that has a much darker meaning to your and my spending power.  The U.S. national debt passed the $20 trillion mark.

The problem is that the Dow will come back down.  National debt will not fall.

In the past decade, US debt nearly doubled and the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the rate of  debt will continue to rise for at least ten more years.  That debt is all the debt issued by the US  Department of the Treasury since 1790.  In other words, in the ten years from 2006 to 2016 the US government added as much debt as it had accumulated in the previous 216 years!

That number does not include state and local debt.  That number doesn’t include so-called “agency debt (debt issued by federal agencies and government-sponsored enterprises) which is “guesstimated” to be another $8.6 trillion or so.  That  dreadful number does not include the so-called unfunded liabilities of entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare.

Do you feel burdened by personal debt?  Well, add the Federal National Debt because per person it is over $60,000.  If one adds in all the other debt each and every American owes over $100,000!   For each family of four, our friendly Congress has added an extra $400,000 debt.

How can America pay this back?  The answer is they cannot.

However, there is good news.  Payback actually does not matter.  No one expects the US or any country to ever pay back all its debt.  Isn’t that nice? We all owe $100,000 but don’t have to pay it back?  Right?

Here is the bad news.  Everyone does expect every country to pay its national debt service.   This is why we know there will be a downward dollar spiral.  You see when debt service gets too high, governments always let the purchasing power of the currency fall.  It’s a dirty trick.  Someone owes you a bunch of dollars every month and they pay it.  The problem is those dollars buy less clothing, less food, less housing and energy and less everything.

Wait a minute isn’t that good for us?  If we each owe a $100,000 but get to pay it back in devalued dollars, don’t we reduce our debt?   Yes, but those are the same dollars we are paid with.  Those are the same dollars that pay for our food, our clothing and our shelter. Those are the same dollars in our savings account so the reduced purchasing power lowers our standards of living too!

Go to the store.  Buy some bread or, heaven forbid, some fresh vegetables like peppers or fruit.   Look at the cost of your prescription or hospital bills.   Do something simple like have your car serviced at an auto dealer.  Look at the dollars you spend and you’ll see what I mean.

A huge dollar conundrum looms from the rising national debt service as well.  During most of the last decade when the national debt was skyrocketing, interest rates were plunging and remained really low.  Now rates are starting to rise as will the US national debt service.  This chart from the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) shows that debt service is expected to more than triple in the next ten years.

dollar charts

Largely due to the Federal Reserve’s aggressive efforts to keep interest rates low, the U.S. government is paying historically low rates on its debt.

The CBO projects, unless the law changes, US national interest costs will more than double over the next 10 years, rising from $270 billion in 2017 to $712 billion in 2026 and totaling $4.8 trillion over the period.  Interest costs are expected to continue climbing beyond the next 10 years and are projected to be the third largest category in the federal budget by 2028 (after just Social Security and Medicare), the second largest category in 2046, and the single largest category in 2050.

These interest costs add up to trillions of dollars that won’t be spent on roads, on the military, on health care or the environment or schools.  That rising debt service creates a vicious cycle that can only lead to a devaluation of the US dollar so the debt can be paid, but in phony terms.

The loss of the dollar’s purchasing power erodes our independence, our freedom and our savings and wealth as well.

At the same time, low interest rates by big banks and higher health care costs soak up the ever diminishing income and savings we have left.  According to a Gallup poll, the most unpopular three institutions in America are big corporations & Wall Street banks, HMOs and Congress.  Yet there is little we can do because these institutions are in control.

Over the last 50 years the average income for 90 percent of the American population fell.  Our health system is restricted by a Kafka-esque maze of legislation and insurance regulations that delay, frustrate, and thwart attempts by patients and doctors from proper medical care.  Big banks and corporations restrict our freedom of choice.  The business customer relationships are no longer transactions between free equals.

Banks can trap us in indebtedness at every age from student loans to mortgages to health care costs.  They pay almost nothing on our savings.  They hide unexpected fees and payments in complex and unreadable documents.  Banks and big corporations routinely conceal vital information in small print and then cheat.  Weak regulations and lax enforcement leave consumers with few ways to fight back.  Many of these businesses ranging from cable TV to phone and internet service to health insurance have virtual monopolies that along with deceptive marketing destroys any form of free market.

These same companies control the credit-scoring agencies so if  we don’t pay unfair fees, our credit scores will plunge and we could lose the ability to borrow money, rent an apartment, even to get a job.  Many consumers are forced to accept “arbitration clauses” in lieu of  legal rights.  The alternative is to lose banking, power, and communication services.

Big business has also usurped our privacy.  Internet companies sell our personal data.  Personal information is pulled from WiFi and iPhones track and store our movements.  The government can access this information, sometimes without subpoenas.  There’s a lot that we don’t know, often withheld under the guise of “National Security.”

The glow on Western democratic capitalism has dimmed… or so it seems.  The US, leading the way, is still a superpower with economic, innovation and military might, but the institutions that should serve the people have become flawed or broken.

America’s infrastructure is in shambles.  The nation’s bridges are crumbling, many water systems are filled with toxins, yet instead of spending more to fix this, we build more prisons.  The 2.2 million people currently in  jail is a 500 percent increase over the past thirty years.  60% of the inmates belong to ethnic groups.  Not just non-white ethnic groups are suffering.  Annual death rates are falling for every group except for middle-aged white Americans.  Death rates are rising among this group driven by an epidemic of suicides and afflictions stemming from substance abuse, alcoholic liver disease and overdoses of heroin and prescription opioids.

America’s middle class is shrinking.  Nearly  half of America’s income goes to upper-income households now.  In 1970 only 29 percent went to this group.  How can we regain our freedom, our happiness and our well being in such a world?  What can we do?

The answer to a better, freer life is to combine better health, higher income and greater savings for a happier, more resilient lifestyle.

Little Things – Big Problems – Huge Opportunities

Little buttons are small things… those tiny bits that are so hard to hit with big thumbs.  Drives me crazy the thought of texting.  I want big buttons for my stumbling thumbs!  Help may be on the way… a clue for micro business and multi currency opportunities.

A recent article at Technologyreview.com   entitled “Kinect Turns Any Surface Into a Touch Screen” says:  Researchers combine a Kinect sensor with a pico projector to expand the possibilities for interactive screens.

A new prototype can transform a notebook into a notebook computer, a wall into an interactive display, and the palm of your hand into a smart phone display. In fact, researchers at Microsoft and Carnegie Mellon University say their new shoulder-mounted device, called OmniTouch, can turn any nearby surface into an ad hoc interactive touch screen.

This is the type of venture risk that makes sense.

Because we have to stay on top of change and learn how to manage risk better, Merri and I have added a new micro business/multi currency seminar so we can share an entire year’s risk management thinking with you.

For 2012, we have now scheduled our October 5-7,  International Investing & Business Made EZ seminar in  Jefferson, North Carolina where we will look at micro business and investing ideas in water, Ecuador, smalltown USA and agriculture as well as multi currency investment around the world.  The most exciting news though is that we have also scheduled two exclusive “Think Thank” meetings (one at our home in Florida and one at our Blue Ridge house) for club members only.

Belong to the International Club so we can spend a year with you.  There are many benefits to club membership for 2012.

Yet there is more.

I-Club

International Club members meeting round a bonfire at New River Winery after a North Carolina seminar.

The International Club brings together experienced, like minded souls, who take a positive view and think outside the box..in constructive thoughtful ways.

Merri and I are in our 43rd year of organizing courses, seminars and newsletters about international and quantum lifestyles. The importance of this sharing…by like minded souls…was reinforced when a delegate from a course sent an email that said:

My Dearest Merri and Gary, Thank you for your most gracious hospitality last weekend. I am just thrilled at being a part of your group. You and Gary were exactly as I imagined you to be, warm friendly, kind, considerate, genuine, helpful, fun, sincere, what else can I say……I felt so comfortable in your presence and learned so much in your course. I was sad to leave the farm that Sunday afternoon. You made us all feel so welcome and cared about. You were so kind to make arrangements for a ride with the other delegates from the Charlotte airport. They were so nice to me and so helpful, by the time the weekend was over I felt like they were my long lost brothers. Monday morning we all had breakfast at the airport together and I was so sad to see them go, I was sad the weekend was over, perhaps sad is not the right word for how I was feeling perhaps Gratitude is a better way to describe it. Grateful for having the opportunity to share the weekend with such wonderful, like minded Human Beings, in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Thank you Merri and Gary.

Thanks to you I now have new hope and a new direction to move forward in my life.

I know by attending your classes and conferences that through education and due diligence I will make the right choices.

This delegate’s comments about “belonging and feeling like a brother” to the other delegates is a wonderful refrain we have heard from our readers, year after year.

21 years ago Merri and I created a way that readers can join us to be immersed in a year-long learning program through our International Club.

The ideas behind this program began all those years ago in Vienna, Austria while we were conducting a course there. One of our older delegates, had some sort of attack. The first fear was heart trouble. Several delegates took him to the hospital. Others stayed with him there. I don’t think that delegate was alone for a minute!

What impressed Merri and me was that no one asked the delegates to help this man.

The friendships of delegates sharing many courses had just grown so strong that it was a natural reaction, just as if a family member was ill. Fortunately, it was only travel fatigue and the delegate didn’t miss a session of the course!

When you join our International Club 2011 – 2012 you become part of a special family. The very first member to join the club all those years ago wrote, Thank you for the enjoyable and informative courses. I am pleased to be part of your international family and look forward to continuing my education at the next course.

His feeling struck a familiar chord. It has always been one of my greatest satisfactions to see how much fun delegates have getting together, sharing information and making friendships.

These courses somehow draw together like-minded souls. For this reason some delegates come back again and again. They come to learn, but also to be with their many friends made at the courses. When like-minded souls get together again and again to discuss a common purpose, magic happens! I can’t explain it in any other way-but it is true.

In a way our meetings are almost like family reunions. Perhaps it is getting together and reflecting on what has been said and what has been happening.

Learning with those who are also interested in the world creates thoughts that multiply the value of what we gain. This is hard to describe but results are most powerful and wonderful! This is to me is as important as the great financial benefit of attending many of our courses.

See our 2011 – 2012 schedule below.

We started and have continued this program for 21 years because there are wonderful benefits from having repeat delegates at courses. Having repeat delegates makes the whole course somehow more exciting for all. Being a repeat delegate makes it easier to make and keep wealth and to lock in the knowledge you gain. It’s an exciting lifestyle. We have fun, gain adventure, discovery and friendships and share ways to improve our health and wealth!

Normally we only accept membership at the end of each year… but due to the unusual risk we see now, we added this new option to club membership that entitles you to the last course in 2011 and all of 2012…in the cool Blue Ridge of North Carolina and  in Historic Old Florida.

The next saving is Seminars via MP3 (or disc) you receive FREE as a club member.  I record an update at each seminar and club members receive this.

You’ll see a very busy schedule below.  Very few club members actually attend every course and tour…but certainly some attend almost all of them!

If you attend even a few of the courses, you gain considerable savings… PLUS we record the investing and business seminars so you can have the course downloaded on your computer to listen on MP3 or on disc when you cannot attend in person.

This means that you stay in touch with all the business and investing ideas we develop at each of the investing and business seminars you cannot attend.

Here are the courses and tours where your seminar or tour fee is waived.

You may well wonder why I would make such an offer and ask why the cost is so low?

Let me answer this question frankly and from the heart. First, it helps us do a better job for you. We feel greatly enriched when we can really help our clients improve their lives. We have learned through years of experience the best way to do this is to meet with you regularly. We can best help you learn how to improve your health and wealth through continual expansion of knowledge.

Second, we gain enormous fulfillment from the many friendships we form through the years. Our friends have enriched our lives tremendously. Let me explain this in more detail.

As a member, you will be part of our international family that meets intensively over the next year to examine ways we can make our lives better. Our goal is beyond just having money. Our goal is to have quantum wealth… good health… wealth and fulfillment through service.

Though we give all course delegates our very best, we cannot help but to do a better job for those who come again and again. As we meet often; your particular wants, needs and desires become clear, and it is easier for us to help you find the right direction.

Another phenomenon is that repeat delegates help each other! They get to know one another, help each other learn, share their insights, make contacts, become friends and gain more wealth.

The fourth savings: Lifestyle for Two.

There is still more!

We have learned at our courses that many repeat delegates were couples.

We want couples! As a member of the program, you are entitled to bring another person to every single course or tour. The cost for that extra person will be ZERO!  You can bring whomever you wish. Bring your spouse, a friend, son or daughter, partner, accountant, adviser. You can bring the same person each time or a different person, whomever you choose to accompany you. Economic turmoil today will create more future prosperity then ever before…for those….who accept change and adapt.

This is why we bring together experienced like minded souls, who take a positive view and think outside the box..in a constructive…thoughtful way.

Merri and I are in our 42nd year of organizing courses, seminars and newsletters about international and quantum lifestyles.

Thanks to you I am so ready to move to Ecuador and begin a new life. I just have to figure out what I am going to do and how to do it.

I know by attending your classes and conferences that through education and due diligence I will make the right choices.

This delegate’s comments about “belonging and feeling like a brother” to the other delegates is a wonderful refrain we have heard from our readers, year after year.

This why I want to share how you can attend eight of our investment, business, and courses in 2011 (worth $7,491) FREE.

When you join our International Club 2011 you become part of a special family.

This is to me is as important as the great financial benefit of attending nine courses that would cost $$7,491 FREE.

See why and our 2011 schedule below.

We have expanded our courses in 2011… four in the cool Blue Ridge of North Carolina and four in Historic Old Florida.

Few club members actually attend every course and tour…  but certainly some attend all of them!

If you attend even a few of the courses, you gain considerable savings… PLUS we record each course so you can have the course downloaded on your computer when you cannot attend in person.

For those not interested or not quite ready to go to Ecuador, we have our North Carolina courses in the summer when it is cool here in the Blue Ridge Mountains and don’t forget the autumnal beauty in October…. plus in sunny Old Florida during the winter.

Here are the courses and tours you can attend free. Plus there is even one more savings you will see below.

Ecuador & Economic Collapse

Ecuador may be a great place to be if there is a global economic collapse.

A theme in our messages is that there are four ways to beat inflation… investing in commodities… real estate… stocks and your own small business.
This is one reason I like Ecuador real estate. First it is a good value now.  Second it is a great place to be any time and third it is an especially good place to be during a global crisis.
The people are by nature, friendly and easy going.  There is plenty of food and never severe temperature problems.
Ecuador is a small agricultural country and as such, a huge national distribution system is not required.  The food is fresher.  Preservatives are not as required.

Ecuador’s land for producing food is rich.

ecuador-safety

Food is produced in every nook and cranny.

ecuador-safety

and available in markets and every village.

ecuador-safety

Corn, beans and potatoes are the basics in the Andes.

Excerpts from my latest multi currency portfolio lesson explains why this is extra important at this time. The lesson says:

This message is about risk and the chances of economic collapse.

Every investment adviser I work with is nervous… due to the massive debt that has been created in the last recession…  without a lot to show for the spending.

For example… an article in the telegraph entitled “Société Générale tells clients how to prepare for potential ‘global collapse” provides a big warning.

Société Générale is one of the oldest banks in France and is one of the main European financial services companies and is active all over the world.

The Telegraph article about this bank says:

Société Générale has advised clients to be ready for a possible “global economic collapse” over the next two years, mapping a strategy of defensive investments to avoid wealth destruction.

Explosion of debt: Japan’s public debt could reach as much as 270pc of GDP in the next two years.  In a report entitled “Worst-case debt scenario”, the bank’s asset team said state rescue packages over the last year have merely transferred private liabilities onto sagging sovereign shoulders, creating a fresh set of problems.

Overall debt is still far too high in almost all rich economies as a share of GDP (350pc in the US), whether public or private. It must be reduced by the hard slog of “deleveraging”, for years.

Under the French bank’s “Bear Case” scenario (the gloomiest of three possible outcomes), the dollar would slide further and global equities would retest the March lows. Property prices would tumble again. Oil would fall back to $50 in 2010.

Governments have already shot their fiscal bolts. Even without fresh spending, public debt would explode within two years to 105pc of GDP in the UK, 125pc in the US and the eurozone, and 270pc in Japan. Worldwide state debt would reach $45 trillion, up two-and-a-half times in a decade.

The underlying debt burden is greater than it was after the Second World War, when nominal levels looked similar. Ageing populations will make it harder to erode debt through growth. “High public debt looks entirely unsustainable in the long run.

We have almost reached a point of no return for government debt,” it said.

Inflating debt away might be seen by some governments as a lesser of evils.

If so, gold would go “up, and up, and up” as the only safe haven from fiat paper money.

SocGen advises bears to sell the dollar and to “short” cyclical equities such as technology, auto, and travel to avoid being caught in the “inherent deflationary spiral”.  Emerging markets would not be spared. Paradoxically, they are more leveraged to the US growth than Wall Street itself. Farm commodities would hold up well, led by sugar.

Mr Fermon said junk bonds would lose 31pc of their value in 2010 alone. However, sovereign bonds would “generate turbo-charged returns.”

There are several ways for governments to solve debt problems.

Excerpts from an article last week in USA Today by John Waggoner entitled “Depression, WWII lessons for economic recovery? Sacrifice” explains:

Even during the Great Depression, federal spending was never more than 11% of GDP.   The last time the nation’s debt was this big compared with gross domestic product — 70.4% of GDP — was immediately following World War II.

How did the Greatest Generation pare it down? It didn’t.

It grew the economy faster than the debt, pushing down the debt-to-GDP ratio and making debt payments easier to manage. But that generation also did some things that U.S. citizens and politicians don’t seem willing to do today. It paid higher taxes, and it had a smaller government — and, at least until the 1980s, it kept annual budget deficits small.

The citizens of the U.S. owe $12.3 trillion in Treasury debt to banks, individuals and foreigners. That’s about $40,000 per person living in the U.S., and it’s not counting the amount our states owe — or, for that matter, what we owe to our individual creditors.

Although the U.S. is currently handling its debt comfortably and pays remarkably low interest rates on it, there’s mounting recognition that sooner or later, we must move the debt-to-GDP ratio in the other direction. And that will involve hard decisions on taxes, spending and sacrifice — something the World War II generation knew much about.

Even during the Great Depression, federal spending was never more than 11% of GDP, according to the Economic Report to the President, an annual government publication by the Council of Economic Advisers.

By 1942, spending climbed to $35 billion, or the inflation-adjusted equivalent of $465 billion. Annual spending peaked at $92.7 billion in 1945, or $1.1 trillion in today’s dollars. By 1945, the U.S. debt was 121.7% of GDP, vs. an estimated 70% today, according to the Economic Report to the President.

Then and now:

How did the government repay the war debt? It didn’t, really. Much of it was rolled over when it matured, but new borrowing was limited. “During the early postwar years, the federal government ran either small surpluses or small deficits,” says Anthony O’Brien, professor of economics at Lehigh University. The federal debt was $260.1 billion in 1945 and $274.4 billion 10 years later in 1955.

But the economy grew faster than the deficit did. GDP was $221.4 billion in 1945, and $394.6 billion in 1955 — despite high tax rates, which persisted. Because of economic growth, the ratio of debt to GDP fell nearly every year from 1947 to 1981. As the nation’s debt became a smaller part of GDP, the debt became much less burdensome, much as a fixed mortgage payment becomes more affordable as your income grows.

What’s different between then and now? Plenty.

World War II was a finite event, and it’s pretty easy to stop war spending and bring the budget back into balance — or close to it — when the war is over.

“Government spending went down by a dramatic amount,” after WWII, says Steven Hess, lead U.S. debt analyst for Moody’s. And government was far more limited: In 1945, there was no Department of Education, no Environmental Protection Agency, no National Security Agency, for that matter.

Today, the U.S. is involved in two wars: Both have lasted longer than WWII, but they have been far less expensive — about $1 trillion so far. So there’s no one dramatic event that will reduce the debt-to-GDP ratio, Hess says. “It’s going to be much more difficult.” The problems:

•Recession. When the economy falters, so does the government’s income — that is to say, the taxes it collects from corporations and individuals. The government collected $2.5 trillion in 2008, and it collected $2.1 trillion in 2009, a $400 billion shortfall.

•Spending. Federal spending has jumped from $1.8 trillion in 2008 to an estimated $3.1 trillion in 2009. Unlike World War II spending, however, there’s no quick end in sight to current spending. Much of the growth in spending since the end of the war came from entitlement programs, such as Social Security, and military spending. In 1963, for example, Social Security and Medicare were 14.8% of all federal tax receipts, and defense was 50.1%. In 2009, Social Security and Medicare are an estimated 40% of federal tax receipts, and defense is 25.7%.

•Taxes. The maximum federal income tax rate in 2009 is 35%, down from 39.6%in 2000.

Lower taxes stimulate the economy, and raising taxes in a recession is a nearly sure-fire way of deepening the recession. Nevertheless, tax cuts add to the deficit if the government doesn’t rein in spending. “You can’t raise spending and cut taxes,” and get a balanced budget, says David Wyss, chief economist for Standard & Poor’s. Estimates of how much the tax cuts have added to the deficit range from about $1.8 trillion to $1.35 trillion.

•War. Fighting a war is one of the most reliable ways to create a big debt. The British, for example, finished repaying their World War II debt to the U.S. in 2007. Germany will finish repaying its World War I reparations in 2010. Every Allied nation except Finland defaulted on its World War I debt to the U.S.

The article goes on to point out that there are three ways to solve the problem… Raise taxes, cut spending, or grow the economy fast enough — and grow the deficit slowly enough — that debt becomes a smaller portion of GDP.

Currently, the nation’s debt-to-GDP ratio is in line with most other developed countries and well below Japan’s.

This does not mean the US debt is good. This means that the global debt is bad!

And the US debt is headed higher towards the 100%, level where it is difficult to grow out of.

The way to cut the deficit is a combination of tax increases and budget cuts. Yet because neither of these options are politically popular…. expect inflation… the loss of the purchasing power… around the world.

There is a warning signal in the markets now… the rising US dollar.

The chart below shows how the euro recovered after the past panic shift to the greenback and how the dollar is now rising again.

euro-dollar chart

End of excerpt.

My latest Multi Currency Lesson explains more about why there is extra risk now. Learn how to obtain this lesson here.

There is little we can do about the global economy.  That fate is beyond our control.  Yet there is a lot we can do for ourselves.  The common refrain among good investment managers is “do not waste the recession”.

These economic worries and concerns, pressures and tensions in countries everywhere are problems and problems create opportunity. Whether you live in Ecuador… full time or part… you can gain extra opportunity investing in commodities… real estate… stocks and your own small business.

Ecuador Airfare Savings

Here is another Ecuador airfare savings idea.

Since the Ecuador air fare war began last week, we have been showing our Ecuador Living subscrobers how to grab the losest Ecuador airfares.

We have been receiving some great feed back from readers in Canada and the US.

There are three gateways for US airlines… Houston, Miami and Atlanta.

When Merri and I are in North Carolina, we take the Delta Atlanta to Quito.

When we are in Florida, we fly Miami Quito… Lan, Aerogal or if we must American Airlines.

However we are on the US West Coast a lot.   When returning to Ecuador from there,  we like to breakup the flight… go to Atlanta… Houston or Miami, spend the night and fly down.

Usually the least expensive way to fly is to look for specials from PDX to the three gateways and look for specials from the three gateways to Quito (or Guayaquil if you are going there)… at the same time.

For example Jet Blue was recently offering LAX – MIA for $99.  Lan Air was offering $340 flights for Miami Quito.  This made the flight from Los Angeles to Quito at just $439!

A reader from the West just confirmed this when she wrote:

Hi Gary, You don’t know me … yet …. but I’m planning to move to Ecuador in the future. I follow your emails excitedly and I’ll be coming to your seminars.  I wanted you to pass on to the others that Jet Blue just announced a fare sale from all over … NYC, LAX, etc. as low as $99 to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale which as you know, would make a trip to Ecuador affordable even from the west coast.

There are three downsides in this approach which I have just explained in a message just sent to our Ecuador Living subscribers along with another Ecuador airfare savings tactic.

You can subscribe to Ecuador Living here.

Ecuador Air Fares Plummet

Ecuador air fares plummet because Aero Galapagos and LAN Ecuador are having a competition this month from New York’s JFK to Quito and Miami’s MIA to Quito.

This is driving other airlines to match those flights…but LAN is an excellent airline that has been flying for some years into Ecuador.  We love this as have taken Lan’s flights many times and enjoyed their good service. They have been a great airlines for years.

Aero Galapagos is a new airline that has received permission for flights to/from Ecuador and has had good results inside of Ecuador.  We use them often when flying Quito to Manta.

Their competition is bringing some flights from Miami into the high $200 range. I have never seen them this low.   Some New York to Quito Flights are as low as  $389… including taxes!   Again this is the lowest I have seen in 15 years.

This makes it cheaper to get to Ecuador than ever before… plus there is still time to enjoy great Ecuador tour savings.

Monthly payments can now be made to attend our Ecuador tours. See below.

Our January export tour starts tomorrow… but you can still sign up for the January real estate tours or start attending our seminars and tours in February.

Though I give all course delegates my very best, I cannot help but to do a better job for those who come again and again. As we meet often; your particular wants, needs and desires become clear, and it is easier for me to point you in the right direction.

Another phenomenon is that repeat delegates help each other! They get to know one another, help each other learn, share their insights, make contacts and gain more wealth.

Out associates in Ecuador, are experienced business people who live or work and conduct our real estate and export courses.  They can also act as your local backup for the business.

Lifestyle for Two. There is more! I have learned at my courses that many repeat delegates were couples.

(Accommodations and air fares relating to the courses are not included for members, delegates or their guests.)

Won’t you join us in this exciting club and share Merri’s and my lifestyle for the next year? We look forward to seeing you at as many courses as possible and sharing this wonderful world of abundance and well being with you!

Ecuador Stock Market

See below why I am not buying into the Ecuador stock market… or any stock market at all.

First, let me be clear… there is not much of an Ecuador  stock market… never has been and probably won’t be for quite a while.

Merri and I do own a few Ecuador shares… in Cemento, an Ecuador cement company,  but these were purchased years ago when Ecuador had a stock market beginning to boom. Then the economy and sucre collapsed and all the Ecuador banking shares (including the ones we held) rushed to zero.

The Ecuador cement shares were all that was left… along with a lesson learned.

Yet there are two other reasons why you’ll not see many Ecuador equities in my portfolio.

In fact, you won’t see many stocks in our portfolio at all.  A review of my recent total asset allocation shows that I hold only 3% in equities.

An excerpt from our recent Multi Currency Update shows that I do not hold many shares at all and why I am not buying more now.

Last week my account adviser at Jyske Global Asset Management sent me this note.

Gary, The USD on the move!  The main focus this week has been on the FX market. We have had a long period of a declining US Dollar against most other currencies. The market participants have been waiting for an excuse to take profits. The market got its excuse last week, where we for the first time saw better than expected US unemployment figures. The non-farm payrolls where better than expected and the unemployment rate dropped to 10%. When the numbers hit the market the EUR/USD was trading above 1.5000 and during this week the USD strengthened approximately 5%, currently trading at 1.4350.

The correction of the EUR/USD also indicates that the psychology in the market could have changed. During 2009 improving economic figures led to a risk-on scenario where investors began  to diversify in to  more speculative markets and at the same time exiting the USD safe-haven. The change in psychology has resulted in a focus on possibly increasing interest rates as the economies worldwide begin to improve. The US economy shows signs of improvement and investors are thus beginning to focus on being long USD assets.

The FED however announced no change in the FED funds after their meeting on Wednesday. Bernanke told the market on the following press conference that the interest rate would remain unchanged until the economy is back on track and we see a significant drop in the unemployment rate. We therefore believe that the current strength in USD is temporary and we do expect the EUR/USD to turn around and once again go toward our target of 1.5500.

The main focus in Europe during the week has been on the down grading of the sovereign debt of Greece to BBB+, by both FITCH and S&P. Both rating agencies, still have Greece on a negative watch. The 10 year government bond of Greece now pays a historical 250 bps more than a 10 year German government bond.

Norway once again increased their interest rate with 25 bps, from 1.5% to 1.75%. Norway has seen an increase in the private consumption and a hot real estate market. The Central bank of Norway thus chose to increase the interest rate, even though the industrial production in Norway still suffers.

That note from my adviser cemented my thinking that the greenback’s upswing creates a good time to further reduce US dollar positions. I am reducing my euro positions as well.

The global economy continues to upswing and eventually interest rates will be heading up…. bit equities are at risk due to the chances of another economic slowdown and massive government economic stimulation that has supported high risk speculation.

So last week I added more emerging currencies with higher interest rates by liquidating my Jyske Invest Danish Bond Fund and Jyske Invest Euro Bond Fund.

I used the proceeds to purchase higher interest rate bonds away from the euro and mostly into the dollar zone but not the US dollar itself.

I purchased:

NOK 4% Rabo Bank 29.05.2013 (AAA)     101,25   3,60% p.a.
CAD 4,95% KFW October 2014  (AAA)      109,60  2,80% p.a.
EUR 7,25% Bombardier 15.11.2016 (BB+) 102,25  6,70% p.a.
AUD 6,00% EIB 14.08.2013 (AAA)            101,60   5,50% p.a.
NZD 6,50% EIB 10.09.2014 (AAA)            104,50   5,39% p.a
MXN 8% Bonos 19.12.2013 (A+)               103,60   6,97% p.a.
BRL 11,25% EIB 14.02.2013 (AAA)           104,75   9,41% p.a.

I also sold my Hungarian government bonds and bought the Polish bond below with the proceeds.

PLN 6,50% EIB 12.08.2014   (AAA)            107,00   4,77% p.a.

I see any period of US dollar strength as an opportunity to exit the greenback and accumulate other currencies.

Learn how to get my regular portfolio updates.

The personal reasons why I do not invest much in shares is based on three cornerstones in Merri’s and my lifestyle and investing philosophy.

Cornerstone #1:   Know Thyself.

Cornerstone #2: Be True to Thyself.

Cornerstone #3: Turn Your Passion into Profit.

Merri and I love our business. We earn more than enough from it and…  we gain enormous fulfillment from serving others.

Plus we love buying and fixing up real estate. If you have been sharing this site from long you have read our escapades buying real estate in North Carolina, Ecuador and now again in Florida.

We love fixing up real estate in Ecuador and…

Ecuador-house-for-sale

on our North Carolina farm…

golden-mean

and…

ecuador-future

at the lakefront in Florida.

On the dark side, we hate accounting. We cannot read balance sheets… nor do we trust them much… so we tend to avoid equities… which historically overall are the best investments of all…. if… you ignore the three cornerstones.

We only have two shares… Bank of Florida and Jyske Bank…. because we know (and like) the people and the concepts involved.  Plus we understand the financial business.  Otherwise the most we do in shares… even though we have helped others make many millions in the stock market… is buy ETFS or mutual funds.

When we invest in shares there are three factors we continually look for…

Investing Factor #1: Contrasts.

Investing Factor #2: Trends.

Investing Factor #3: Value.

We are always looking for contrasts in value that will eventually create trends.

This is why we began buying real estate in Florida and are not investing in many equities now.  A recent New York Times article “New Slip in Housing Prices Undercuts Fragile Optimism” by David Streitfeld explains why.  Here is an excerpt:

Just as the economy is finally beginning to strengthen, the real estate market is showing new signs of deterioration.  Prices slipped in many cities in October, new figures show, despite low mortgage rates and a generous tax credit meant to spur sales. Now rates are starting to rise, making it harder for many buyers to afford a house, and the tax credit seems to be losing its capacity to lure them into the market.

The renewed worries about housing come against a backdrop of improvement in the broader economy.  Surveys suggest consumers are growing more confident. That better mood probably helped improve holiday retail sales. The number of people joining the ranks of the jobless is dwindling, while the hiring of temporary workers is up, a traditional harbinger of recovery.

Still, economic growth for the third quarter was more modest than originally reported; it was revised down to an annual rate of 2.2 percent from 2.8 percent. Many economists are fretting that housing could drag down the tenuous recovery.

The figures released Tuesday showed that the Standard & Poor’s/Case-Shiller home price index, a widely watched measure of housing markets in 20 metropolitan areas, rose 0.4 percent in October from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis.
It was the fifth consecutive month that prices were up, but the rate of increase has dropped sharply from the impressive gains of the summer. Prices in nine of the 20 cities were flat or down.

“I’m worried. Everyone’s worried,” said Karl E. Case, the Wellesley College economist who helped design the housing index that provided fresh cause for alarm on Tuesday. “If prices sink 15 percent from here, which is a possibility, and the 2008 and 2009 loans go bad, then we’re back where we were before — in a nightmare.”

One might think why invest in real estate… not stocks… when real estate seems down.

Due to the last economic downturn… many governments… led by the US… spent trillions flooding the market with easy money… for big banks.

These big banks in turn borrowed the money and poured that money into stock markets.  This made the banks look profitable and pushed stock markets up… at the expense of currencies around the world.

Government spending rarely works efficiently as evidenced by the multi billions spent of security that missed a Nigerian, whose father’s warning to the US Embassy validated a risk… that the CIA had already picked up… even though he was on a risk list… and after buying a ticket for cash…. and arriving without luggage… he was allowed to walk onto a plane headed for the US with a bomb in his underwear.

This post 9-11 security may not have been such a great government investment.

Just imagine that the economic spending from the governments of the world have created the same situation… making the public feel better when  the reality is… the risk is the same… or actually worse… because of the government’s heavy handed involvement.

If the economy once again stalls…  the stock markets… many of which are thinly traded… will collapse like a house of cards. All that government money (actually your money and mine) will be gone.

Repayment of the loss will most likely be made via inflation.  Stock portfolios will be wiped out.

This concerns me.  Jyske Global Asset Managers are concerned as well.  Their low risk managed account for US investors has only 17.5% in equities and they are only in seven investments… of which five are major Blue Chips.

Electricite De France France’s electric company.

Siemens AG a global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering, operating in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors.

Bayer AG, a global enterprise with companies in almost every country.

G4S Plc the world’s leading international security solutions group, operating in over 100 nations.

Novartis AG Reg.  the largest producer of insulin.

Only a very small portion of the portfolio is in other equities, iShares II BRIC and Jyske Invest IT Equities.

If we see a double dip recession, then real estate will remain depressed perhaps for a bit.  However there is real utility in real estate and the very inflation that could ruin so many investors will benefit those who hold real estate (and can hold on) plus those who hold commodities and have their own business.

There is no doubt still some good individual shares but overall shares offered good value early last year… not now so investors should beware.
