International Business & Investing Expanded

There is expanded international business and opportunity because wage earners and retirees in most of the Western world are being set up. This can create great international business and investing opportunity for you.

ecuador-real-estate

In a moment see why this Ecuador property offers such good value.

Whether this “set up” is on purpose, or not, is a subject of lively contention… but the intention doesn’t really matter much.   The results… created innocently or intentionally will be the same.  Disaster for the middle class.  However opportunities in international business, investing and lifestyles mean that you do not have to share in the loss.

We can begin to understand this fact with three simple thoughts.

The first thought is that the US is currently experiencing deflation. You can see from this graph from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

small-business-statistics

The December 2008 message Multi Currency Inflation at this site, asked the question… will there be inflation or deflation.

Now we know.

The second thought is that the deflationary forces are creating inflationary fundamentals like we have never seen before. The inflation stage is set. This is a formula that means disaster for most… but this does not have to apply to you.

One reader just wrote:  I’m thinking a ‘creative way’ to fix a problem and work through one’s passion will not handle the whole situation.  I hope I’m wrong and you have an even better idea. Medicine and doctors.  Savings stripped.  Destruction of people’s lives and stability.  All done with intention.

The dollar is  going down the toilet, and the best option I see the Fed and Government taking (for themselves, not for us) is to have a debit system.  The debit system would pay people, and would pay others from the people’s account.  People would no longer research to save taxes.  Their accounts would automatically be debited with whatever the government deems able to be taken.  The funds would filter through the Central Bank to be certain the funds are going only where the government it should go.

There is no more representative republic.  There is no more self determinism.  There are no more freedoms as you can be controlled through your debit card.  If government decides you are an ‘unworthy person’ they can easily take all of your nest egg.  If Congress can so thoroughly devastate us overnight one time, they can do it again.  I have a real hard time thinking about a creative way to generate income.  I trust not a congressman.  I certainly do not trust the current administration.  I don’t think they’re through with us.  Best Wishes to you Gary.

Many readers share thoughts like this. I know that so many of you are suffering. Yet I must say: economics will get worse. Fortunately they will then get better.

This leads us to the third thought… which is “the common person who will bear the brunt of the upcoming inflation.”

Yet you do not have to suffer.

A USA Today article “Wages could hit steepest plunge in 18 years
by Dennis Cauchon and Paul Overberg” explains the problem. Here is an excerpt:  A bad economy and low inflation are starting to drag down wages for millions of everyday workers and freeze benefits for millions of retirees.
Average weekly wages have fallen 1.4% this year for private-sector workers through September, after adjusting for inflation, to $616.11, a USA TODAY analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data found. If that trend holds, it will mark the biggest annual decline in real wages since 1991.
“Wages are usually the last thing to deteriorate in a recession,” says economist Heidi Shierholz of the liberal Economic Policy Institute. “But it’s happening now, and wages are probably going to be held down for a long time.”

Yet falling income for wage earners and retirees is meeting huge potential inflation according to the October 16, 2009  New York Times article  “$1.4 Trillion Deficit Complicates Stimulus Plans” by Jackie Calmes.

Here is an excerpt: The Obama administration said Friday that the federal budget deficit for the fiscal year that just ended was $1.4 trillion, nearly a trillion dollars greater than the year before and the largest shortfall relative to the size of the economy since 1945.  The shortfall for the fiscal year 2009, which ended Sept. 30, translates to 10 percent of the economy.  Economists generally agree that annual deficits should not exceed 3 percent of the G.D.P., and that is the level President Obama had vowed to reach by the end of his first term in 2013.  At 10 percent of the gross domestic product, the 2009 deficit is the highest since the end of World War II, when it was 21.5 percent. At the same time, many Americans are demanding further help, confronting forecasts that job losses will not peak until mid-2010.  Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the Republican minority leader in the House, rejected that position. “It is irresponsible for Democrats to continue spending taxpayers’ money we don’t have to fund an agenda that would destroy the jobs we need to get our economy moving again,” Mr. Boehner said.

The problem looks even worse according to another October 16 2009 USA Today article entitled “Obama team makes it official: Budget deficit hits record. By a lot.” Excerpts say: The Obama administration has released new deficit numbers, and they are not pretty.  The deficit for Fiscal Year 2009, which ended Sept. 30, came in at a record $1.42 trillion, more than triple the record set just last year.  In addition, future deficits are currently projected to total $9.1 trillion in the coming decade.

Yet while the wage earner suffers… others are becoming rich according to an October 17, 2009 New York Tines article entitled
“Bailout Helps Fuel a New Era of Wall Street Wealth” by Graham Bowley.

Excerpts say:  Even as the economy continues to struggle, much of Wall Street is minting money, many Americans wonder how this can possibly be. How can some banks be prospering so soon after a financial collapse, even as legions of people worry about losing their jobs and their homes?
It may come as a surprise that one of the most powerful forces driving the resurgence on Wall Street is not the banks but Washington. Many of the steps that policy makers took last year to stabilize the financial system — reducing interest rates to near zero, bolstering big banks with taxpayer money, guaranteeing billions of dollars of financial institutions’ debts — helped set the stage for this new era of Wall Street wealth.  A year after the crisis struck, many of the industry’s behemoths — those institutions deemed too big to fail — are, in fact, getting bigger, not smaller.  Now, the industry has new tools at its disposal, courtesy of the government.  With interest rates so low, banks can borrow money cheaply and put those funds to work in lucrative ways, whether using the money to make loans to companies at higher rates, or to speculate in the markets. Fixed-income trading — an area that includes bonds and currencies — has been particularly profitable
.

Here is why you do not have to suffer and can profit like the big banks.

Messages at this site have repeatedly shown that four ways to beat inflation are to invest in equities, real estate, your own business and commodities.

Commodities are riskiest in the deflationary times.

Equities have skyrocketed this year… as have bonds treated like equities.

US dollar denominated real estate also offers extra value now.  The dollar has fallen which reduces the price of real estate. This is why I am heavily invested in US and Ecuador property.

Take this acreage and farm house as an example.  This offers great value because it is an investment in real estate… a business and commodities (food)

As you can see above a six pack costs $3,099.  This is already a really low price for a tour that last up to 21 days (under $150 a day). But as you will see below, our International Club membership which allows you and a guest to attend up to 56 courses and tours in 2010  (fees would be $40,947 for all these courses individually) is only $2,999. Which would you choose… 6 courses and tours for $3,099 or those same 6 courses and tours plus 50 more for $2,999? "Duh," I said when this was pointed out to me. So our only solution is to raise the International Club membership to $3,500… still a terrific deal… but $501 more than before. Save $37,457…plus $501.  I will not raise the International club fee until January 2010. Enroll in the International Club now at the original fee of $2,999. This is why we bring together experienced, like minded souls, who take a positive view and think outside the box..in a constructive…thoughtful way. Merri and I are in our 41st year of organizing courses, seminars and newsletters about international and quantum lifestyles. The importance of this sharing…by like minded souls…was reinforced when a delegate from a course sent an email that said: My Dearest Merri and Gary, Thank you for your most gracious hospitality last weekend. I am just thrilled at being a part of your group. You and Gary were exactly as I imagined you to be, warm friendly, kind, considerate, genuine, helpful, fun, sincere, what else can I say……I felt so comfortable in your presence and learned so much in your course. I was sad to leave the farm that Sunday afternoon. You made us all feel so welcome and cared about. You were so kind to make arrangements for a ride with the other delegates from the Charlotte airport. They were so nice to me and so helpful, by the time the weekend was over I felt like they were my long lost brothers. Monday morning we all had breakfast at the airport together and I was so sad to see them go, I was sad the weekend was over, perhaps sad is not the right word for how I was feeling perhaps Gratitude is a better way to describe it. Grateful for having the opportunity to share the weekend with such wonderful, like minded Human Beings, in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. Thank you Merri and Gary…………..Thanks to you I now have new hope and a new direction to move forward in my life. Thanks to you I am so ready to move to Ecuador and begin a new life. I just have to figure out what I am going to do and how to do it……… I know by attending your classes and conferences that through education and due diligence I will make the right choices. This delegate’s comments about “belonging and feeling like a brother” to the other delegates is a wonderful refrain we have heard from our readers, year after year. This why I want to share how you can attend 56 of our investment, business, Spanish, real estate and export, courses, tours in 2010 worth $40,947. 20 years ago Merri and I created a way that readers can join us to be immersed in a year-long learning program through our International Club.  The ideas behind this program began 21 years ago in Vienna, Austria while we were conducting a course there. One of our older delegates, had some sort of attack. The first fear was heart trouble. Several delegates took him to the hospital. Others stayed with him there. I don’t think that delegate was alone for a minute! What impressed Merri and me was that no one asked the delegates to help this man. The friendships of delegates sharing many courses had just grown so strong that it was a natural reaction, just as if a family member was ill. Fortunately, it was only travel fatigue and the delegate didn’t miss a session of the course! When you join our International Club 2010 you become part of a special family. The very first member to join the club all those years ago wrote, “Thank you for the enjoyable and informative courses. I am pleased to be part of your international family and look forward to continuing my education at the next course.” His feeling struck a familiar chord. It has always been one of my greatest satisfactions to see how much fun delegates have getting together, sharing information and making friendships. These courses somehow draw together like-minded souls. For this reason some delegates come back again and again. They come to learn, but also to be with their many friends made at the courses. When like-minded souls get together again and again to discuss a common purpose, magic happens! I can’t explain it in any other way-but it is true. In a way our meetings are almost like family reunions. Perhaps it is getting together and reflecting on what has been said and what has been happening. Learning with those who are also interested in the world creates thoughts that multiply the value of what we gain. This is hard to describe but results are most powerful and wonderful! This is to me is as important as the great financial benefit of attending 52 courses that would cost $40,947 if all booked separately. See why and our 2010 schedule below. We started and have continued this program for 20 years because there are wonderful benefits from having repeat delegates at courses. Having repeat delegates makes the whole course somehow more exciting for all. Being a repeat delegate makes it easier to make and keep wealth and to lock in the knowledge you gain. It’s an exciting lifestyle. We have fun, gain adventure, discovery and friendships and share ways to improve our health and wealth! We have more than doubled our courses in 2010… 56 courses and tours, two in the Blue Ridge of North Carolina, three in Central Florida and the balance in Ecuador.  Few club members actually attend every course and tour…  but you can if you desire. If you attend even a few of the courses, you gain considerable savings. For those not interested or unable to visit Ecuador, we have our North Carolina courses in the summer when it is cool here in the Blue Ridge Mountains and don't forget the autumnal beauty in October…. plus in Florida during the winter.  Each US course is attached to an Ecuador tour so you gain information in the US and then travel with others to Ecuador for experience (if you desire). Here are the 56 courses and tours you can attend free. Plus there is even one more savings you will see below. First, it helps us do a better job for you. We feel greatly enriched when we can really help our clients improve their lives. We can best help you learn how to improve your health and wealth through continual expansion of knowledge. Second, we gain enormous fulfillment from the many friendships we form through the years. Our goal is to have quantum wealth… good health… wealth and fulfillment through service. Though I give all course delegates my very best, I cannot help but to do a better job for those who come again and again. As we meet often; your particular wants, needs and desires become clear, and it is easier for me to point you in the right direction. Another phenomenon is that repeat delegates help each other! They get to know one another, help each other learn, share their insights, make contacts and gain more wealth. Out associates in Ecuador, are experienced business people who live or work and conduct our real estate and export courses.  They can also act as your local backup for the business. Lifestyle for Two. There is more! I have learned at my courses that many repeat delegates were couples. We want couples! As a member of the program, you are entitled to bring another person to every single course or tour. The cost for that extra person will be ZERO!  You can bring whomever you wish. Bring your spouse, a friend, son or daughter, partner, accountant, adviser. You can bring the same person each time or a different person, whomever you choose to accompany you. (Accommodations and air fares relating to the courses are not included for members, delegates or their guests.) Won’t you join us in this exciting club and share Merri’s and my lifestyle for the next year? We look forward to seeing you at as many courses as possible and sharing this wonderful world of abundance and well being with you! Gary International Club 2010 Membership  $3,500 Enroll here

Here is more on this Ecuador golf course for sale.

The lake in question is Laguna Yaguarcocha, just five minutes north of the city of Ibarra and a little more than half hour drive along main highways north from Cotacachi.

Ecuador Day 3 089

There is a ridge which runs between the lake and the city of Ibarra and from a local lookout point you get the view of the lake above and also the city below.

Ecuador Day 3 087

The property is called Rancho Totoral.

Here’s a picture from just last Sunday of our Imbabura real estate group eating lunch on the newly constructed patio. By the way, Eduardo the owner, tells me the architect designed roof over the patio cost just $8,000 to put up last summer.

P1030417

Last Sunday, just as all our delegates were finishing lunch I strolled over to Eduardo and asked if he wanted to present his project. He has about 22 acres in total and had been thinking of building some townhouses with a local constructor. To my complete surprise he said, “..well actually me and Patricia (his wife) have decided to sell the whole property”.

Suddenly I found myself with unexpected news to convey to the group. As we strolled out on to the grounds, one delegate, a successful internet company owner, said “let me guess – $1.8 million” and I said close ” but the asking price is $1.6 million”.

Of course, not all of us have that kind of money but if that price sounds a little high, bare in mind that just bare land around this desirable lake is selling at $10 per square meter and Eduardo’s price is only for the land and buildings – he’s asking $18 per square meter for thousands of square meters of construction and a 9 hole functioning golf course with the business thrown in. Here’s a shot of one of the fairways below with the lake and mountains in the background.

P1030463

The altitude here is just under 7,000 feet and as such the climate is warm with only the slightest hint of an early morning chill. Here is the 44 seat restaurant below and the building it’s inside. (The patio can seat a further 100 people).

P1030525

P1030517

This area has a perfect climate around the lake and not surprisingly the lake is a weekend trip destination not just for Ibarra’s inhabitants but also folks from Quito and even further away. Here’s a couple of early morning shots of the lake as I arrived yesterday with the early morning mist just about burned off.

P1030427

P1030428

Laguna Yaguarcocha is also the site for Formula 3 races around a fast circuit and previously the races were run on the road that runs clean around the lake. Paragliding is a popular early morning sport, launch yourself of a nearby hill and glide serenely over the lake just as this guy was doing yesterday morning. Snow capped Cotacachi volcano was easily visible through the trees in the distance this clear morning.

P1030491 P1030464

Here are some shots of the road outside Rancho Totoral and also the entrance to the property and the driveway down to the restaurant and house, one think I like about this property is the mature gardens and tremendous variety of plants and trees.

The golf course itself is the only one in the country north of Quito. You can go round and round the course all day long for $25. It’s pretty much a pitch and put course although I can assure you that wouldn’t be the case for me! Mind you if I owned this property I’d be out walking this property every morning just as I did with Eduardo yesterday morning.

There is wonderful club house.

And some charming guest cottages on the first tee. We’ll visit them again next course. Hope you’ll join us there.

There is a race track that wraps around Yaguarcocha Lake.

One wonderful thing about owning Ecuador real estate is that there is just about everything in this area from hot springs, to glorious mountains to great fishing to wild cloud forest preserves to golf to Formula 3 car racing.

Several delegates recently went to the races at lake Yaguarcocha. You can see some shots of the race below.

Start of the Ecuador real estate races at Yaguarcoacha

Last April, 2006 it was announced that Latin America motor sport took a big step forward by introducing the PanAm GP Series races. This is a brand new racing series that makes a significant impact on racing in Central and South America.

This series includes races in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Columbia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panama and the United States at Homestead in Miami. There is extensive TV coverage on the Fox network.

Although Merri and I are not fans, for those that like this type of sport there are many kinds of races from Formula 3 to motor bikes to souped up go carts here that add one more business dimension to this land.

Whether you want real estate in America, Ecuador or anywhere in the world, look for distortions. They offer value that can improve your lifestyle and increase your wealth.

Cotacachi Shamanic Tour

We are repeating our Beyond Logic & Cotacachi Shamanic Tour this December 6, 7 and 8, 2009 because the most successful thoughts come from Beyond Logic.

This may be why the Beyond Logic & Cotacachi Shamanic tour has been one of the must successful of our 2009 tours. Due to this demand we are repeating this course… plus adding optional Andean real estate plus a free Christmas shopping extension for December 2009.

The Ecuadorian shamanic thinking process can help us learn how to advance and prosper during this economic downturn.   Three shamanic lessons below show why. These lessons are outlined in a moment.

First may I introduce the course “Beyond Logic” conducted by Blaine Watson this December 2009.

Because the last Beyond Logic course was one of our most popular this year, we have added a three day ‘Beyond Logic” Course to be conducted in Cotacachi December 6, 7 and 8, 2009.   Ecuador Andean and coastal real estate tours will follow (more on this in a moment).

The first two days will be conducted by Blaine Watson. Here he is conducting a course here in North Carolina. He is in our teaching kitchen because nutrition is part of the course.

ecuador-shaman

Blaine’s portion of the program includes a personal reading (one per single or couple – a second reading is extra) based on your time, day and place of birth. We’ll get your birth time in advance so he can bring your chart with him. You’ll have your reading either after the course or later by phone.

Here is the course schedule.

Day One. Sunday…Dec. 6, 2009 – Blaine Watson

A detailed description of the 12 signs, the 9 planets and their significations and the 12 houses, how they come into being and the significations of each one, as the basis for interpreting the horoscope and making predictions.

Day Two. Monday…Dec. 7, 2009 – Blaine Watson

In-depth analysis of the of the planets and how to interpret and predict from their placements in the 12 signs and the 12 houses.

Day Three. Tuesday…Dec. 8, 2009 – Quantum Lessons from the Yatchaks. Delegates will visit a sacred valley near our village for a shamanic mingo…just beyond this field.

ecuador-shaman

We’ll hike in (but can also bring those who desire to come by truck) here…

ecuador-shaman

Here is a shot I took of Merri and Don Jose when we hiked in on a previous Mingo.

ecuador-mingo-trip

We’ll reach this grotto where the water springs from the cave…

the color of gold.

Shaman Don Jose will conduct a purification for those who choose to have it.

You can enroll in Beyond Logic here.

Here are the three shamanic lessons.

Recessions and depressions destroy many investors and businesses. Yet these times of cleansing are also the breeding ground for the next group of extreme rich.

Why do some succeed when so many fail?

They have different ways of thinking…gaining energy and seeing beyond the accepted logic.

No one can see the future. It is hard to be energetic and forward moving in tough times. Perhaps this is why only a few become rich and healthy.

The thought process, processing knowledge and natural health have always fascinated me as have the legends of Old Ones the “Abuelos” who live high in the Andes hiding sacred knowledge for longevity, high energy and success.

Merri and I were so intrigued that we bought Hacienda Rosaspamba, high in the Andes and lived with a Taita Yatchak and his apprentices to learn more.

Here is the hacienda and the view we enjoyed each day as we rose.

Ecuador-hacienda

The Taita Yatchak invited Merri and me to hike into the mists and clouds of the Llanganatis, the sacred valley, which legends say contain hidden Incan gold. I suspect the gold is golden knowledge…not the yellow metal!

To find out, and learn more on how to think for true success…in health and wealth, we invited friends, two MDs and a Sanskrit scholar to hike in with us. Here we are, on top of the world, starting that trek.

ecuador-shaman

The first shamanic lesson was to trust our inner vision. The picture below shows Merri and me with Dr. Jay Glaser an MD, Ayurvedic physician and Sanskrit scholar overlooking the sacred LLanganatis Valley.

Here is how we learned this lesson. The yatchak put us on a path like above. Told us to look ahead. Then close our eyes and walk the path. “Trust your inner vision,” he said.

ecuador-shaman

Here we are with the Yatchak in the jungle during that hike.

picture one

The second shamanic lesson was to purify oneself from the outside in and the inside out at the same time. Be pure in eating, action and thought. Always keep cleansing…mind and body.

For example, we stayed in an open air hut during our time in the LLanganatis. The mists there have negative ions that neutralize free radicals in the skin.

Here we are with the Yatchak and our friends at the hut.

ecador-shaman-entire-crew

We brought a Sanskrit expert because the Andean language is based on Sanskrit, a language from India. What made this tidbit special was that we were already studying Ayurved, the Indian science of life…health…pure thought.

We learned for example that the name “Llanganatis” is linked to Indian philosophy. Llanganatis means “Repeated Sacred Action” (the Sanskrit word is Yagya). This led us to a third shamanic lesson…”See beyond logic”.

This helped Merri and me understand how to use Vedic Astrology to see a bigger picture beyond logic. The Indians were able to maintain their ancient wisdom in a more refined and usable way than the Andeans, mainly because the Spanish destroyed most of the Andean Quipos, (knotted cords of different colors used by the ancients to store knowledge).

We learned to integrate the wisdom we have gained from India and the Andes to think and act Beyond Logic.

Our astrologer is Blaine Watson who has been an incredible help when it comes to making decisions that we cannot process just with logic. Blaine is an expert in the wisdom from India and Ayurved.

For example, our daughter Elle graduated from University in London with a degree in dramatic arts. Her question to Merri and me was “Should I go for a career in singing or go on and get a teacher’s certificate in Physical Education?” (She was a superb athlete as well as an aspiring singer.)

We all agreed that becoming a singer was a long shot. Teaching was safe. But we knew that her passion was to shoot for being a star. How would she feel in later life if she didn’t try?

We had Blaine check her Vedic chart. He knew nothing about Elle but said at that time she had just moved into a cycle for three years when her best thing would be the performing arts, entertaining, etc. That was enough to convince us. “Go for it”, we said and encouraged her.

Within a week she was picked as a backup singer with Modern Romance, a popular English rock group with many top hits in the UK including the theme song from the movie, “Shrek”.

Her first gig was before 4,000 fans! In the ensuing year she met many of her rock star heroes as work associates. This was an incredible experience for her and led her to buying a franchised performing arts school called Stagecoach, where see now earns hundreds of thousands a year.

May I say with due respect that Eleanor is the last child that we ever thought would be a business woman. No logic could have shown us this. Yet she approached this business with incredible discipline and dramatically expanded the school. In her first year her profits were in six figures. Her second year took her well into six figures. Today at 27 she lives in a very expensive home on the River Thames. She has a new car, new kitchen, everything she wants and an income in the top 5% of the world.

Her success has been beyond logic!

Yet we supported this success based on the realization that every moment there are possibilities that our logic just cannot see. Vedic Astrology helped us tap into a bigger picture.

The inability to measure the results of astrology used to bother me enormously until years ago I read an article about Aristotle Onassis, the ultra rich Greek shipping magnate. He gave the secret of being a billionaire that helped me look beyond my logic. “Certainly one does not need an astrologist to become a millionaire.” Then he quickly added that “to become a billionaire, it is essential.”

Onassis’ statement really struck a chord with me as my many years of residence in Hong Kong had exposed me to many businessmen who looked beyond logic. I heeded the astrological advice because the Chinese businessmen are often considered superstitious due to their belief in astrology. Some might consider their sight beyond logic, offbeat and unreal, but there were more billionaires per capita in Hong Kong than anywhere else in the world!

The more I thought about this, the more it made sense. To make billions one has to take enormous risks and see a big picture far into an invisible future.

We all have to make some decisions based on events we cannot totally predict, but successful billionaires make huge decisions based on enormous unknowns. It requires incredible faith to take incredible risks. None of us can see the whole picture but Astrology, albeit vaguely, helps us see the biggest picture of all.

During economic downturns, times seem even more uncertain. Previous history is of little use so these deeper, more subtle ways of processing information become even more important.

This may be why one of our most popular courses we offer is conducted by Blaine Watson, our Vedic Astrologer. Many of our readers also use Blaine and rave about him.

During times of contraction…those who profit most are those who expand…but in the correct way. This course “Beyond Logic” can help you think better, have more energy, natural health and purity to pursue your inner vision, that sees a bigger picture of health and wealth for all.

I invite you to join Blaine Watson for

International Investing Light

There may be international investing light at the end of the tunnel… soon… but we must take care for now.

See below how this can create income in Ecuador.  Hand dyed, all natural yarn ready for beautiful sweaters.

Ecuador-tours

We must take care because before we really see the international economic light, I expect one more downturn this autumn… one that will break the economic backs of many who have been just barely hanging on.

Markets and economies rise and fall in spurts and provide large influxes of  profit that create really bad fiscal and lifestyle habits that are destructive when dangerous economic ex-spurts (recessions) come long. See more about this here

The first dangerous time is when markets rise so much for so long that the general population becomes convinced that “the good life’ will last forever.   Then the second dangerous times comes in the form of a market crash.

The crash destroys many lives and finances.  Then after a year or so the markets rally on news of an economic recovery.  There is a fairly decent broad pickup, led by the consumers, government stimulation,  tax cuts and low interest-rates.   This is a knee-jerk stock market reaction, at the first sign of a healthy economy.  The stock market kicks up 10% at minimum, 30% at best. These rallies are not based on reality though. They are usually short lived.

This short term bear rally spurt is followed by another severe ex-spurt (bear market) which we should expect now.

Here are some tips to help survive such dangerous times:

First recognize that tight economies are best for making money. For example Marc Andreessen co founder of Netscape started Loudcloud, an Internet infrastructure company in a terrible recession  because there was less competition, easier access to good labor. Both businesses and employees are more realistic in tough times.

Tough times can be good because they force us to do what we should already have been doing. Human nature being what it is, we get fat when the times turn easy and seem good. Here are a few tips we should always heed, but sometimes can survive ignoring when economies boom. If we ignore them now, it is at our peril.

#1: Look for every way you can to trim expenses.

#2: Do not be inflexible or proud. Not long ago a seminar delegate told me about a friend who had risen from a zero net worth to having an Internet portfolio worth $300 million. “Then,” the delegate said, “he lost it all when the bubble burst. He went right back to where he started.” That was not quite right. That investor did not go back to where he started. He most likely acquired bad habits when he thought he was worth $300 million! Unless he shed these habits when he went broke they will make it harder for him to succeed again! In good times, we may think we deserve a certain way of life or that some things are inalienable rights. Really our only economic right it to spend a little less (maybe 90%) than we earn.

#3: Always save. No matter how tough the times, always try to save at least 10% of your income. Those who do this almost never run into economic trouble.

#4: Look harder for the silver lining. There are more in bad times than good. An old British saying is “where there is muck there is brass.”  Business is solving problems and difficult times create problems. Look for ways that you (or your investments) can help others squeeze through tight times.

#5: Be positive. One of the greatest risks in recession is a can’t win attitude. If the economy falls drastically (say 30%), you still only have to be in the top 70% to get by. The entire history of modern humanity has been one of long term growth chopped by short term recessions. Current conditions are nothing new.

#6: Remain true to your economic plan. Use three phase investing as described many times in our messages. Do not panic and stick by your investments (assuming they were made intelligently to begin). This will increase your odds of success and help you with step seven.

#7: Maintain perspective.  A USA Today article “American Workers Rethink Priorities” pointed out that many workers are taking time to rethink their grueling schedules or about pursuing work that might pay less but is more meaningful. We live in the richest, most incredible era that mankind has ever known. Our poorest have more than the richest of just centuries ago. Yet this can be hard to remember when caught in the day-to-day rush of the material rat race. Inspired investing is doing what we love and figuring out how to make money from it. We increase our odds of success and enjoy what we are doing more. When times are tough and the economy slows, this perspective can give us time to sit back for at least a few moments and ask, “What do I really want to do with the rest of my life?”

The answer is the most important asset you will ever receive.

Until next message, good global business and investing!

New Quito Ecuador Airport

A new Quito Ecuador airport is scheduled to open in 2010 to replace the current Mariscal Sucre airport.

On the subject of Mariscal Sucre airport, this is one of the nicest emerging market airports Merri and I have ever used. Clean carpeted jetports take you to a shiny marble clad, rose decorated immigration area where the officers politely and efficiently welcome you to Ecuador . Baggage arrives promptly and customs rarely looks at your baggage. We are often from the deplane to our waiting van in less than 30 minutes. The entire process is quiet, well organized and the baggage handlers treat us well.

The new nearly 4,000 acre airport scheduled to open next year we expect to be even better. Because it is about 45 minutes closer to Cotacachi, this adds some great opportunity for real estate in our area now. We look at this in our real estate tour. See below.

The new airport scheduled to open in 2010 is about 15 miles east of Quito and that much closer (about an hour of travel saved) to our province. This airport will sit at about 7,500 feet altitude compared to Quito ’s 9,500. This lower altitude and elimination of noise reduction procedures (due to being away from town) means larger loads can arrive and take off.

Learn more about the new Quito airport here.

On all our tours, we meet all delegates arriving the day before the tour when they arrive at Quito airport. We hope to meet you in Ecuador!

Ecuador Preconstruction Property

Here is an Ecuador beach preconstruction property.

ecuador-beach-property

We do not normally write about or allow advertising of Ecuador preconstruction property but Dr. Andres Cordova, our friend and attorney, has helped so many of our readers over the past decade that we skipped this rule and posted a message about his special Ecuador preconstruction property.

Andres is the grandson of one of Ecuador’s more famous presidents. He is a senior partner in a law firm that represents Ecuador’s treasury.

Yet to me he is an example of how Ecuadorians are willing to help others in so many ways.

For example, we warn our delegates and readers to stay away from the Mariscal Sucre area in Quito. This is a very touristy area that many of the tour agents promote. This area is loaded with very clever pickpocket type thieves.

Regretfully some delegates do not mind our warnings, as was the case when a delegate from our course, on his way back to the US, visited this area. His carry on bag was stolen (in a tricky but non aggressive way). He lost everything, passport, wallet, car keys, credit card, driver’s license, computer. He was stranded with $3 left in his pocket.

Fortunately he called us in Cotacachi. I called Andres who immediately left his Sunday afternoon lunch and within the hour had picked up our delegate, given him $200 cash and sent him back to us in Cotacachi. (The US Embassy would not help the delegate until Monday.)

This is not the first time Andres has gone out of his way to pull a delegate’s irons out of a fire. A few years ago, a delegate arrived for our Import-Export Expedition. The delegate had journeyed to Peru first and purchased many huge bags of goods to take back to the US . Naturally Ecuadorian customs wanted to tax them. Though it was nearly midnight, one call to Andres got him working and he immediately sorted the problem out.

Now Andres has done it again. A reader just sent me this note.

Wanted you to know that Andres handled the closing on my place and would not charge anything…Nada, 0..Maybe that was his way to make up for his sometimes slow response time…..In any event that is impressive..Hope you are well. We will be in Argentina most of November, then to Nicaragua and Panama in January…One of my sons in selling property in Panama ..Cheers,.Ed

Andres continuing help and goodwill to our readers is one reason I have posted details of his Ecuador beach preconstruction property offer (get a $135,000 condo for $35,000) here.

We are not involved in this project financially or in any way.  Preconstruction property deals involve high risk and anyone who considers this Ecuador beach preconstruction property deal should use all normal due diligence.

Ecuador Diversified

Ecuador is a great place of diversification.

I often get letters from readers like this.

Dear Gary, I have noticed that you have mentioned (a few times) that you and Merri are not residents of Ecuador —– and you do not want to become residents. Would you be kind enough to explain what brought you to this decisions?  Thank you,

My first reply is always “grandchildren!”

Plus there is a limitation. When you become a resident you cannot be out of Ecuador more than  90 days per year during the first two years of your residency.  Merri and I have not been in one place that long for 40 years.

This is our unique quirk.  We are very mobile people… have four homes and move around a lot.

Every person has a unique set of circumstances.  Our relationship with our God, family and purpose in life should be the first determining factors that shape a lifestyle including where we live.

Yet if I did not have grandchildren in the US, I suspect that Merri and I would be living in the same way we do in the Blue Ridge and Ecuador with diversification.

If you have been reading my site for long you may know that since I wrote my first book, Passport to International Profit in the 1970s, my mantra has been to have what I call a “Six Point Command Posture” which is to:

Live in one country
Bank in a second country
Invest in many countries
Earn in two or more countries
Use a company incorporated in a fifth country
Take a second residence

Why diversify and have two places of residence?  The answer is to have options.

Things could go wrong in Ecuador. My impression is that Correa is nowhere as bad as the Western press make him out to be… yet if I am wrong… or some other bad event takes place in Ecuador that makes it unsuitable for us, Merri and I have an option.

I do not want to be stuck with everything invested in Ecuador… or any one place anywhere.

So why be in Ecuador at all?  We love the people… the year round sun… the easy way of life… the access to a holistic natural lifestyle and the low cost of living.

Plus frankly, I am as concerned that things could go wrong in the USA.

There are a number of fundamentals about America that are scary to me.

By now almost any thinking person can see raging inflation looming ahead.  They can see the US dollar falling.  Yet there are many more American problems I keep my eye on… like the loss of our basic rights.  Take for example the rule that the US military cannot operate in police actions on US soil.  This is a good rule… yet look at this.

I don’t have a lot of respect for the daily press. There is too much meaningless, bad news that seems slanted towards helping a few.

For example I have been watching the press building a Swine Flu scare since the beginning of the year.    They are at it right now with… “watch out for swine flu this fall.”   The press, knowingly or not,  is preparing the public to buy into swine flu vaccine.. good for pharmaceuticals… but maybe not so good for the individual.  Whether the press publishes this type of stuff because fear sells papers or for some hidden agenda, I do not know.  I am not a conspiracy theorist… but I do know that history suggest that no republic lasts in a state of harmony for very long.

So I read with great concern an August 8 article in the science section of the New York Times entitled “Climate Change Seen as Threat to U.S. Security”  by John Broder.

Here is an excerpt from the article:  WASHINGTON — The changing global climate will pose profound strategic challenges to the United States in coming decades, raising the prospect of military intervention to deal with the effects of violent storms, drought, mass migration and pandemics, military and intelligence analysts say.

Such climate-induced crises could topple governments, feed terrorist movements or destabilize entire regions, say the analysts, experts at the Pentagon and intelligence agencies who for the first time are taking a serious look at the national security implications of climate change.

Recent war games and intelligence studies conclude that over the next 20 to 30 years, vulnerable regions, particularly sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South and Southeast Asia, will face the prospect of food shortages, water crises and catastrophic flooding driven by climate change that could demand an American humanitarian relief or military response.

An exercise last December at the National Defense University, an educational institute that is overseen by the military, explored the potential impact of a destructive flood in Bangladesh that sent hundreds of thousands of refugees streaming into neighboring India, touching off religious conflict, the spread of contagious diseases and vast damage to infrastructure. “It gets real complicated real quickly,” said Amanda J. Dory, the deputy assistant secretary of defense for strategy, who is working with a Pentagon group assigned to incorporate climate change into national security strategy planning.

But a growing number of policy makers say that the world’s rising temperatures, surging seas and melting glaciers are a direct threat to the national interest.

What concerns me in this article is that it could be a warning shot that more American rights are about to be violated.

The implication is that  anything to do with  climate change could be viewed as a threat to national security and that more normal, democratic rights to … privacy… presumption of innocence… right to an attorney etc.  will be reduced in the name of climatic national security.

I hope I am wrong about this.  If not, is there anything I can do about this?  Not much… but live in a positive way that is as good for as many as is possible. I can do my best to be ethical and prepare, so if living conditions shift badly in the US… there is always Ecuador.  Or vice versa. (See more on ethical investing below).

I doubt things will get so bad in the US that I would not want to live here anymore.

I doubt things will get so bad in Ecuador that I would not want to live there anymore.

If I am wrong, I doubt even more, that things will get so bad in both places that I will not want to live in one or the other of these societies.

Just in case, here is a photo from my passport.  This is the stamp you get when you are allowed to reside permanently in the UK.

I can always live in the UK and from there, anywhere in the European Union.

This also fits into our lifestyle as we have children who live in England and expect to have grandchildren living there some day.

The point is I have options because I am diversified. Yet the options fit my particular lifestyle.

The US is central to all my family.  The US is a country I love and know and as a US citizen have certain rights.

Ecuador is 3 hours and 45 minutes from the US and as mentioned we are fulfilled by being in Ecuador for many reasons.

Ecuador gives us great weather in the winter and we love the people and the place. Ecuador is not a bunghole we have chosen because  we dislike or fear some other place.

I repeat. The six point command posture is to:

Live in one country
Bank in a second country
Invest in many countries
Earn in two or more countries
Use a company incorporated in a fifth country
Take a second residence

Let’s take this one step further. To have a fulfilling six point lifestyle posture:

Live in one country you love.
Bank in a second country you really enjoy.
Invest in many countries you would like to explore or feel good about.
Earn in two or more countries you would like to explore or feel good about.
Use a company incorporated in a fifth country that best fits your circumstances.
Take a second residence in a place where you love and want to be.

We live in a time of incredible opportunity and freedom. There are probably dozens of places where each of us could enjoy living, investing and doing business.  There is no need to look for the one perfect place.  In fact, such a Utopia probably does not exist.

There are however many places like Ecuador where you can enjoy living full or part time and gain lifestyle diversification.

Also do not look for the perfect place to live, or the one and only business to do or the best investment of all forever.   Our circumstances and countries, institutions and relations change.

Diversification gives us a greater ability to change too.

The greatest asset for diversification is the ability to earn wherever you live and to keep your investments safe.

This is why we offer our course Tangled Web… How to Have an Internet Business.

A clear mind and healthy body are also a vital assets… plus a second language is a powerful diversification tool.

Changes Affecting Retirement in Ecuador or Anywhere

Retirement in Ecuador… or retirement anywhere is changing.

retirement-in-ecuador

Manta is Ecuador’s largest ocean port.  See about shipping and retirement in Ecuador plus a trick to help you retire in Ecuador or anywhere below.

Those who embrace faster change can make their golden years glitter even more.

Those who use old thought in a new world may suffer.

There is a trick to gaining from change which I’ll explain in a moment.

First, an excerpt from the July 30 USA Today article “Older white males hurt more by this recession” by Dennis Cauchon, shows one example about change affecting retirement.  This change is causing more people to retire in Ecuador but affects everyone… even those who are not ready to retire.

The article says:

Dean Canaris, 56, a quality engineer for a Honda automotive supplier, was laid off in April and out the door in 30 minutes with no severance.

Harry Jackson, 55, an airline pilot and supervisor, lost his job in 2007 and, to his surprise, has found it nearly impossible to get another job.

Mark Montgomery, 53, was let go from an Owens Corning insulation factory in April and can’t afford his $575 monthly mortgage payment.

These men from the Columbus, Ohio, area are the unusual new faces of joblessness in this groundbreaking recession: older men cut loose from employment at the peak of their earning power and work experience.

In previous recessions, veteran workers were largely spared the pain of widespread job cutbacks, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data. Layoffs tended to be concentrated among younger workers: The younger you were, the more likely you were to get fired. Traditional, bread-winning older males — especially white men — were the least vulnerable.

Not so today. Aging Baby Boomers are suffering a harsh employment bust.

Jobless rates for men and women older than 55 are at their highest level since the Great Depression, government data show. White men over 55 had a record 6.5% unemployment rate in the second quarter, far above the previous post-Depression high of 5.4% in 1983.

Those above 55 also are spending more time than ever between jobs. Older workers spend an average 27 weeks between jobs, about five weeks longer than younger workers.

“When you lose your job after many years, you’re not only looking for a job. You find the nature of employment has changed,” says Deborah Russell, director of workforce issues at AARP, the lobbying group representing people 50 and older.

“People losing jobs are increasingly male and increasingly older.”

The loss of a job for an older worker can erase the dominant income of a middle-class family, wipe out savings as retirement nears and deny aging people health insurance when it’s needed most.

“So many of these men were coasting to retirement, working at good jobs and earning good pay.

“Then, suddenly, it was gone,” says Susan Birie, who runs the government’s Delaware Area Career Center in Delaware, Ohio.

Areas of employment that used to be considered safe are gone or going… never to return.

Our recent International Business & Investing Seminar (IBEZ) in North Carolina explained why this is so.

The industrialization of mankind has moved through five eras each with a new form of power.

Era #1: Water-sail-textiles.
Era #2: Steam-railroad-telegraph.
Era #3: Internal Combustion Engine – Car – Production Line – Petroleum.
Era #4: Jet Engine – Phone – TV – Plastics – Chemicals- Fertilizers.
Era #5: PC – Internet –WWWeb.

In the first stage of each era… markets and the economy boom. New jobs are created. Later in the era, the markets crash… the economy slows and the new wave  in the new era wipes out good jobs from the era past.

The railroad wiped out many safe shipping jobs.

The auto industry wiped out many railroad jobs.

Jet travel eliminated many opportunities originally created by cars.

The internet wipes out many jobs in travel.

These changes bring enormous opportunity for those who adapt. One must invest differently and globally.  This is why half of our IBEZ seminars are about global and why we have a strategic alliance with Jyske Bank to offer a multi currency course.

This is why we also focus half of our IBEZ seminar on how to have a global internet business.

Our goal is to help delegates use the trick so they’ll gain from change.

The trick is what we call JDI… a phrase you have all heard…. Just Do It.

We give our delegates at the course enough basics so they can start a part time internet business.  Then we followed up to get the delegates to get started.

The first week after the course, our delegates received this note from our webmaster, David Cross.

Welcome home.  I hope you had a safe trip back from our North Carolina seminar. It was a pleasure to meet you and share your ideas. We’re going to help you give it wings if you desire using the internet in business.

Let’s get started…

You’ve now got an idea – or an idea of your idea. If you want to bounce your idea of me, please do so.

Let’s begin.

Here’s what to do today – yes, right now!

=====
Step 1: Register your domain name.

http://www.godaddy.com/ is about $10 a year for a .com domain name

Done!

(You can ignore all the additional offers GoDaddy will flood you with.  Just grab your domain).

Look out for another update from me this week. Good business, David

This trick in time of such rapid change is to get started with something small.  Then  learn and evolve.

Our delegates have fun with this as well. Here is one reply David received.

Way ahead of you, David !!!  LOL   But will enjoy receiving your updates ….  My sites have been obtained and are our 2 new ventures. I’ll be focusing on one site first with the import/export of cigars. I already have a name for our newsletter so I can work on getting recognition and good Search Engine hits. I will hopefully be adding other products, such as wine, coffee, chocolate and other “vices” in the near future. Gary, I’m hoping to focus on these additional products coming from Ecuador so any leads would be great.

I was reminded of the importance of taking action by a note sent by a kind reader in Canada that said:

Hi Gary, I’ve been reading Henry Ford’s “My Life and Work,” and this short segment mirrors exactly what you have been saying for years! This might come in handy for one of your daily postings. Cheers!

My Life and Work
by Henry Ford

CHAPTER II: WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT BUSINESS (CONT’D)

The automobile business was not on what I would call an honest basis, to say nothing of being, from a manufacturing standpoint, on a scientific basis, but it was no worse than business in general. That was the period, it may be remembered, in which many corporations were being floated and financed.

The bankers, who before then had confined themselves to the railroads, got into industry. My idea was then and still is that if a man did his work well, the price he would get for that work, the profits and all financial matters, would care for themselves and that a business ought to start small and build itself up and out of its earnings.

If there are no earnings then that is a signal to the owner that he is wasting his time and does not belong in that business. I have never found it necessary to change those ideas, but I discovered that this simple formula of doing good work and getting paid for it was supposed to be slow for modern business.

The plan at that time most in favor was to start off with the largest possible capitalization and then sell all the stock and all the bonds that could be sold.

Whatever money happened to be left over after all the stock and bond-selling expenses and promoters, charges and all that, went grudgingly into the foundation of the business.

A good business was not one that did good work and earned a fair profit. A good business was one that would give the opportunity for the floating of a large amount of stocks and bonds at high prices. It was the stocks and bonds, not the work, that mattered. I could not see how a new business or an old business could be expected to be able to charge into its product a great big bond interest and then sell the product at a fair price.

I have never been able to see that.

I have never been able to understand on what theory the original investment of money can be charged against a business. Those men in business who call themselves financiers say that money is “worth” 6 per cent, or 5 per cent, or some other per cent, and that if a business has one hundred thousand dollars invested in it, the man who made the investment is entitled to charge an interest payment on the money, because, if instead of putting that money into the business he had put it into a savings bank or into certain securities, he could have a certain fixed return. Therefore they say that a proper charge against the operating expenses of a business is the interest on this money.  This idea is at the root of many business failures and most service failures.  Money is not worth a particular amount. As money it is not worth anything, for it will do nothing of itself. The only use of money is to buy tools to work with or the product of tools.

Therefore money is worth what it will help you to produce or buy and no more. If a man thinks that his money will earn 5 per cent, or 6 per cent, he ought to place it where he can get that return, but money placed in a business is not a charge on the business–or, rather, should not be.

It ceases to be money and becomes, or should become, an engine of production, and it is therefore worth what it produces–and not a fixed sum according to some scale that has no bearing upon the particular business in which the money has been placed. Any return should come after it has produced, not before.

This reminded me that the best investment… especially in this era where smaller is better… is in our own small business.  We are our greatest asset… but we will earn nothing if we do not act.

Here is what another delegate from our July North Carolina seminar shared.

Gary and Merri…  We truly enjoyed your seminar !!!  Thanks so much for allowing us to come. My brain is still spinning from all of the information and I hope that someday, we will be in the red enough to invest our wealth at Jyske Bank as well. Words cannot express how impressed we both were with the entire presentation. And thank you for sharing your farm with us and the wonderful lunch !!!

This may or may not be your “cup of tea”, but I would love to learn more about how to think BIG, which could maybe be a topic of one of your newsletters. I would value the information and expertise coming from you because you have been so successful. On the way home from your seminar, I thought a lot about how I need to change my thought patterns. I was a single mother of 2 for many years and during those years, I was in survival mode … how to make enough money to raise my kids well and still have enough time to be close to them.

I stumbled into timeshare at the end of the 90’s and was able to fix up my home and become credit card free. But after 5 years and moving up to Director of one of the resorts in Orlando, I left the rat-race of that industry and got back into general Real Estate and built up my print broker business. During  the housing boom, I sold my house and moved to the mountains of NC and continued servicing my printing accounts. That’s when my husband and I opened up his Cigar Shop and my New Age Shop. The Florida housing market crashed and so did my Florida printing clientele. Within the last 2 years, our savings went and up went our debts, like so many of us. Now we’re starting from scratch again !!!

The point: I have always done just enough to “get by” …. I have a difficult time visualizing a bigger picture … a bigger income … bigger wealth … bigger savings … bigger vacations … bigger anything !!!  We are very hard-working but don’t seem to get ahead …. bigger !!!

So if you decide to do a newsletter series on the topic of “thinking BIG”, I think there are a lot of us out there who could use your insight …. hey, this could even make a good “course” subject.  In any case, thanks again, Gary, Merri, David, Thomas and Haskell for your knowledge and inspiration  and I look forward to our continued contact and friendship.  Namaste,

So now we have the answer from one of the biggest thinkers of all Henry Ford.  Become an engine of production and then grow.  Little wonder that ford is the last viable US car maker.

One way to adapt to change is to move to a place where costs are lower…  but living and facilities are good… like Ecuador.

We get requests from many planning to retire in Ecuador for information about Ecuador shipping.

Merri and I have never shipped to Ecuador and almost all our readers have found it far less expensive to buy most goods in Ecuador than to ship.

For example Ecuador shipping may not make sense for tables.  This hand made dining room set built for us from solid (old) coffee wood ran $420…with 6 chairs.  You cannot beat that with shipping!

I have only had one couple tell me they shipped their goods to Ecuador.  They experienced a lot of problems. The problem was not in Ecuador shipping or Ecuador.  They shipped an entire container and stated they had the DEA in New York tear their stuff apart… break items and leave a big mess.  This is beyond the control of the Ecuador shipper.

Appliances are a bit more in Ecuador than in the US… but not enough to warrant Ecuador shipping. A gas stove like this runs between $250 and $380.

Even if we had more Ecuador shipping stories, it would be difficult to give Ecuador shipping recommendations unless we had many shipping referrals because your shipping begins where you are… so much of what you need will be local.

A couch set like this can be hand built or purchased “as is” for about $750 for two.

So whether you adapt to change in a small or big way… at home in Ecuador or elsewhere abroad… get started. Take baby steps as you think big.
