Writers & Publishers Course

Profits can be kindled with this question… which would you rather have… 12% of $10 or 70% of $3?

The math to this question brings an obvious answer and creates a business opportunity.

kindle

Merri and I have loved our Kindles since they day they became available. Now you’ll see why we love them even more and how that passion can create profit and opportunity for you!

Plus you don’t even have to own a Kindle to take advantage of these profits and opportunities!

Growing numbers of “indies” (short for independent) writers are using Kindle to sell their publications.

There is a great story about a 26 year old who is cutting out BIG publishers by publishing direct to the  Kindle.

She is writing vampire stories and is one of the top selling “indie” writers on the Kindle store.

This means she does not have a publishing deal. This allows her to keep 70% of her book sales.  According to one article I read she is selling up to 100,000 electronic books a month.

That is impressive when you consider that  it only takes a few tens of thousands of book sales at launch to get on the New York Times bestselling list.

The heck with lists! How about just writing and publishing?  Her formula is to lower her sales price to between $.99 to $3.00.  This compares to the typically $9.99 to $12.99 for other books on Kindle.

The lower price increases volume…. plus this cuts out a publisher, distributor and book store who normally absorb up to 88% of the income created by a book.

There are no printing costs, no shelf space, no inventory, no postal delivery.  Most of the publishing expenses are eliminated.

The writer keeps 70%.

Amazon keeps 30%.

A typical writer earning 12% of the book sales makes about $1.20 per $9.99 book sale.  A Kindle writer makes $2.10 on a $3 sale.

Working as a group home worker she wrote novels in her spare time.

In 2010, she began self-publishing them as e-books.  Within a year she sold over a a million copies and earned two million dollars.

This captured the attention of St. Martin’s Press and she received a conventional publishing contract for four books, at a price of two million dollars.

Previously one of the best selling Kindle writers was J.A. Konrath, but it was assumed he was popular because he previously had a publishing deal and so already had notoriety. That was not the case with this girl (her name is Amanda Hocking), who published stories on her blog before turning to Kindle. In fact, out of the top 25 best-selling indie Kindle writers, only 6 were previously affiliated with a publishing house.

Imagine this… 26 year Amanda Hocking… a 100,000 sales at $2 average brings in $200,000 a month and her earnings are $140,000 a month.

That is a great income.

Hocking did all this from the small town of Austin, Minnesota. 2010 population 24,017 people.

Not every writer will do that well.  Most of us don’t need to!

This is a new exciting era for writers.  This is exciting news for those of us living in small towns.  This is not so good for the big city publishers and big bookstores who do not adapt.

However like small bookstores, small publishers have great opportunity as well.

Smart… publishers who use this technology gain the following benefits.

* Printing, shipping and disposal (of unsold books) costs eliminated.

* Shelf space unlimited and almost free with no capital costs.

* There is increased sales volume. Kindle owners buy more books than print readers and will spend weekly to get new chapters rather than entire books.

There are three keys to success in this type of writing and publishing.  We have repeatedly stressed them at our websites and in our business courses.  Focus…. focus…. focus.

Buyers of books fall into niches.

Those who succeed are those who focus on a niche and create trust with those readers.

Take Merri’s and my publishing business as an example.   Our readers know that the site content is about leading edge ideas related to fighting inflation, global investing, having micro businesses and being free to live anywhere.

These websites create a community of like minded souls around this niche.

Once a writer has become branded and has a list of readers,  it is easy to expand by adding authors and related topics, and editing the books of other authors, knowing that they can help them sell their books.

Some amazing websites and businesses will be built and Kindle will be the search engine… the jumping off point is finding the original readers who will become the core of your list!

I plan to also take advantage of Kindle publishing and have a great head start (our list) want to share what I learn in the process with you.

Technology especially favors small publishers today. Portable computers, the internet, wireless access, on demand printing smart phones and electronic readers all create enormous new potential for small publishers.

Let me share an example created by the nuclear events created by the Tsunami in Japan.  Merri and I had unfortunately been near Chernobyl when it melted down. We suffered from radiation exposure and have been in the past two decades learning how to cure ourselves.  We know numerous ways to help readers protect against excessive radiation.

The day of the nuclear event I spent the entire day writing and by the second day of Japan’s disaster had already published the report  “7 Steps to Protect Against Radiation Poisoning“.   My publication was the first to help in the this way and was available on Kindle just one day after the nuclear disaster. No big publisher could close to even thinking up a publication… much less publishing a valid report that fast.

This is why I am making one last special offer for our self publishing course.  When I announced this opportunity a large publisher wanted to put this course online. That deal  was concluded and they felt the existing price was too low so ask me to raise the course fee from $299 to $499.

I have not yet made that increase but shortly plan for the price to rise to $499.

You can save $597 and $200 extra… with this special offer.

Self Fulfilled Special $299

If you take advantage of this offer there is one more benefit… you’ll also receive Self Publishing 202… How to Publish on Kindle.

As shown above I have already started learning the ropes on how to publish via Amazon.com and Kindle.   I’ll have been adding additions to our self publishing course… Self “Publishing 202… Tidbits on Kindle.”

Those who take advantage of the special offer below will receive this new addition at no extra charge.

See below a special offer that save $597 normally… $200 extra now through the end of this week and get the Kindle course all for $299.

Embrace the Predictions of Disaster Zone.

Do less… Gain more as global trouble unfolds.

Online Writers and Publishers Course  “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher”

Self Fulfilled Special $299

The last few years have seen the evaporation of many dreams. The global recession… rising gas prices…  massive home foreclosures… a weakened, falling US dollar and rising unemployment wiped out many hopes, ambitions and plans.

Who knows what could come next.   A double dip recessions, stagflation… massive job layoffs… more federal, state, county and city debt and government burdens on our lives. Demolished Medicare and health benefits. Rampant inflation.

Despite these disasters and the risk of more, one exclusive group of small businesses have prospered. They will continue to do so, regardless of the unexpected, abroad or at home.

In fact these businesses will do even better… gain higher respect and earn more profit as they help ease disasters… because these business are small publishers who can help their readers deal with global and local problems as they unfold.

Small self publishers are in a win – win situation for many reasons.

The massive expansion of information is overwhelming the world. There is so much new data coming in that the public cannot keep pace.   This forces us all  to be more discriminating… which is the worst thing that can happen to big publishers who rely on broadband where its best to send one message to huge groups.

The huge inflow of new knowledge favors broadband which works best sending many different messages to much smaller groups.

Self publishers have also gained an advantage as most of the big booksellers are going broke or in a slump. Barnes & Noble has had enormous challenges. 2010 Books-A-Million comparable store sales dropped nearly 5 percent and net income fell 35 percent. Borders has filed for bankruptcy and shut down along with 798 B. Dalton mall outlet bookstores and over 180 of the Waldenbook units. They are gone.  This vacuum creates a special opportunity for small self publishers.

This is why you should see three case studies below to help you be free, secure and fulfilled as a Self Publisher.

After these stories see how to get a second course worth $299 plus three bonuses when you enroll in our course “Self -Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher” on how to develop your own specific publishing business that can bring you  everlasting wealth.

Save $597 total. Self Fulfilled Special $299

Here are the three stories that show how the rise of the small self publisher began.   This knowledge can bring you secure income for the rest of your life. More importantly these stories can help you be happy and fulfilled and safe in this ever changing world.   With these case studies you help make the world a better place… in a small way perhaps… but better as you gain everlasting wealth.

Lets share how to create a fortune  in a rewarding career.

The first of these three stories contains the seeds of prosperity, richness, freedom and satisfaction for you.

The story begins with an excerpt from the December 16, 2010 Economist Article entitled “Rise of the image men” begins: (bolds are mine) that says:  As they prepared to face their second big strike in four years, America’s coal-mining bosses knew they had to do something about the newspapers. It was 1906—a time of rising resentment against robber-baron capitalism and the heyday of muckraking “yellow journalism”. During the previous strike the trade unions had fostered good relations with newspapermen and won themselves a sympathetic press. To help put their side of the story, the mining bosses turned to a former journalist, Ivy Lee.   Lee was to pioneer new methods—and, in the process, create a new industry.

Lee observed that the rise of national newspaper chains and syndicated journalism in America since the 1880s, combined with the extension of the franchise, had profoundly changed society. Now, for the first time, there was something that could accurately be called “public opinion”, a shared consciousness and conversation across the country—and it was to be feared. Lee noted how the emerging mass media were acting as the conduit for the anti-capitalist message of Progressivism, the liberalising reform movement that peaked in America in the early 20th century. He realized not only that it was essential for businesses to counter this message, but that the same conduit could be used to spread pro-business sentiment.

His idea, blindingly obvious now but a novelty then, was to send newsdesks a stream of statements putting the mining bosses’ case and rebutting allegations against them.

The seeds in this story, are rich with potential for your prosperity and are so simple. This is obvious now but was a novelty then.

The real seed is that a coincidence of many technologies changed the world (in the form of the newspaper)… at the turn of the 20th century. One technology was the ability to make newsprint… the paper of newspapers.  Paper was two thousand years old, but cheap newsprint, paper from wood pulp, did not come along until 1838 when Charles Fenerty of Halifax made the first newsprint while helping a local paper mill maintain an adequate supply of rags to make paper.  He succeeded in making paper from the wood pulp itself.

Plus technologies in transportation and communication then allowed… everyone, reporters to paperboys, to create public opinion through the power of the word.

This leads us to the second story that tells of another global transformation from broadcast to broad band… from large publishing to Self Publishing and how you can have so many good things you desire… freedom… material wealth…adventure… security… fulfillment… friendships…. status and fun as a Self Publisher.

Perhaps what Merri and I are most proud of this second story because it tells the tale of a student who used our publishing course “Self Fulfilled How to be a Self Publisher” to build a career.

David Cross was a meditation teacher in Edinburgh Scotland who taught our son Jake the art of meditating when Jake was at university there.   We meet David there and after talking he ordered our “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher” course then in print… (now its online) and published a report.   One reader of the report had a new internet server business and was so impressed that he hired David to work for him in Sweden.   In the process of rising to become the managing director of that firm… David started our website (and is still our webmaster as well as business partner now).  During one business meeting in London, David met our daughter Cinda. ‘Love at First Sight.”

David Cross and Cinda Scott-Cross DVM.

David also met executives of International Living and went on to become Chief internet consultant for Agora Inc. one of the largest online marketing companies in the world.

David has since built an unparalleled, hands-on marketing experience that spans 25 years in 22 countries for companies and charities large and small. He’s guided many businesses and individuals to success in their business and helped them achieve their marketing goals, both online and offline.

As Senior Internet Consultant to Agora Inc. in Baltimore, MD, David worked closely with Agora’s publishers and marketers and over an 8-year period helped to propel Agora’s online revenues to over $300 Million in 2009.

Myles Norin, the CEO of Agoras wrote: ”I have found David’s knowledge and experience unmatched in the industry. Without David’s expertise and guidance for the past 7 years, we would not be nearly as successful as we are.”

David hails from England and now lives on a small farm close to Mount Hood in Oregon with our daughter, a veterinarian, their five children and a menagerie of animals. When not marketing or brainstorming you’ll find David following a dream of self-sufficiency for food, power and water within 10 years, tending the land and caring for the farm and animals. Not surprisingly, David is an engaging and knowledgeable speaker with many amusing anecdotes from his work and travels over the years.

Such is the power that Self Publishing brings.

The third story is of my wife Merri and me.

Merri became involved in self publishing over 40 years ago… first helping a veterinarian publish a book on a very specific market… animal acupuncture. Then she showed a needle point artist how to sell more books to an even more specific audience… “needle point enthusiasts”  about her needle point work to an audience larger than the population of the city she lived in.  This led Merri to eventually become Executive Editor of an award winning magazine in Florida.

My story allowed me to work and live from Hong Kong to London to Europe to Eastern Europe, then the Caribbean and then Ecuador… making millions in the process of following my adventures and having fun… while helping a large readership adapt to a rapidly changing world.

Self Publishing has created exactly the lifestyle I desire with a farm in North Carolina, orange groves and home in Florida… hotel and condos in Ecuador working at what I love and enjoy.

Merri’s and my story also reflects how Self Publishing can enhance relationship.  Merri and I have not spent a night apart since we began publishing together over 30 years go.

Merri and I heading up to a seminar hall at our Blue Ridge farm to speak with a group about Self Publishing.

Self Publishing has entered a new era as a new business art form and we want to share with you how to start your own  self publishing business now.

Learn how to develop your publishing skills to turn your passion into profit!  If you can’t write… publish instead!

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it AND even create a six-figure income. This could be your direct ticket to the kind of fulfillment you’ve always wanted in life. Whether you want to travel the world or live as a recluse, work 12 hours a day or not work at all, learn more about golf or feeding the hungry… it can be yours if you’re willing to learn.

Self Fulfilled: How to be a Self Publisher will teach you our proprietary step-by-step plan for getting your publishing business going… full or part-time… right away.

How you can start with a very small amount of money and eventually work only four hours a day (if you are operating full-time).

11 steps to creating the perfect product, including how to review ideas, test focus, and aim at markets.

How to gain 1,000% returns on some of your publications.

How to choose a format—book, newsletter, list, audio or video—that suits you and your audience.

Frequently committed marketing mistakes and how to avoid them (plus, you’ll get samples of winning marketing pieces to study).

Personally, I like to write. And through publishing and writing, I have become wealthy beyond my dreams!

My wife, Merri, and I became multi-millionaires within 10 years of starting our self-publishing business. Today, we have more cars than we can drive, five homes and numerous cabins in North Carolina and Ecuador.  We have a beautiful lake front home on 16 acres (with an orange grove to boot).  We have no mortgages, not a penny of debt, and plenty of money in the bank.

But more important than the money, I enjoy the bliss of each and every day, doing what I love and hoping I can do it forever.

And why wouldn’t I? I often start my work days at 5:00 a.m. and wrap up by 9:00 a.m. That leaves the rest of the day to do mostly as I feel. If the kids are home, we’ll play. Other days, I just putter. Some days I take out a canvas and paint or concentrate on playing my flute. Other days, I just sit in the sun and read.

But even though my day’s work is often finished by the time many people are just getting started, I will still be thousands of dollars richer by the end of the day!

Of course I don’t always work just four hours a day. Some days I stay at the keyboard seven, eight, even 12 hours. But the thing is I love every minute of it, because I’m involved in projects that excite me!

Not only am I learning, writing, and publishing about things that I love, but I’m also making myself and the world a better place in the process. This life is as perfect as any I could ask for.

It Doesn’t Take Long to Start Making Serious Money

When I started my publishing business, I made a 380% return on my initial investment within a month. And it just got better from there.

Of course, no business is without its pitfalls. In fact, I’ve identified 17 pitfalls of publishing and they are covered in the course. It took me more than a decade of struggle to learn how to avoid them all, but I did it.

You see, back in 1974, I had what I thought was a good business, but to be honest, I could never get ahead. I was almost penniless, in debt and living from hand to mouth. Then I discovered the secrets to avoiding the pitfalls. Since then, our publishing business has brought in millions.

Now, Merri and I have packed over 40 years of global publishing and business experience into our course on how to have Self Publishing business.

Before I tell you how this program can help you create your ideal lifestyle, I want to make an important point. I’m not promising that this program will make you rich overnight or that you’ll wake up tomorrow with a more satisfying life. If you’re looking for a way to get rich while you sleep, you should stop reading right now.

But if you’re willing to invest a reasonable amount of time and effort into learning and applying this simple system, it will put you squarely on the road to becoming a wealthy and fulfilled publishing entrepreneur.

Through this in-depth program, I will share, teach, and guide you on everything you need to find a fulfilling path and start making good money right away.

I’ve structured the program to make it as easy as possible for you to implement. You’ll know precisely what to do from the very first day till the day you have a thriving publishing business.

You can start part-time with any dream, passion, and budget. Once you’ve created a product, you’ll enjoy the “multiple effect” of producing profits over and over again.

So the question is… What do you love to do?

What’s Your Passion:  Helping People Who Are in Pain?

Thirty years ago, a client of Merri’s developed a series of pamphlets explaining various chiropractic disorders in very simple terms.  For example: “What Is Whip Lash?”

The pamphlets contained solid information, but were simple 5″ x 7″ brochures with drawings and explanations. He sold them with a rack to chiropractors, who put them in their offices for patients to read.  These little self-published items have sold year in and year out for three decades.

There are thousands of ideas of this sort that can lead to big business. It’s just a matter of figuring out and then acting on your passion.

Although I can work when I please and go where I wish, for me the most important reason for being a publisher is the satisfaction it brings. I love the projects I take on, so work doesn’t feel like, well… work.

I’m passionate about investing, so I publish about that. But what matters is what do you love?

If you love golf, then you can publish things about golf.  Love travel, fishing, dogs, dolls, or art?  Publish about those things.

Are you concerned about crime, war, poverty or environmental issues? You can publish information products that help wipe them out.

Would you like to help the world be a more spiritual place? Publish a newsletter, write a book (or hire someone to write it for you), record a tape… do something that enlightens people.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it and make a fortune by publishing CDs, lists, books, or any format you choose.

How to Build a Million-Dollar Business in Seven Years

The first time I exposed others to the secrets in Self Publishing: Your Complete Business Plan for Creating a Life Without Borders, it was in a weekend seminar. People from all walks of life attended—chiropractors, businessmen, investors, doctors, realtors, inventors, airline pilots, engineers, and housewives.

Merri and I were so overwhelmed by the response to the seminar, we decided to make it available to a larger audience.

Unlike programs that are put together by “experts” who have never actually done what their program promotes, this program is not theoretical. It describes step-by-step how Merri and I built a million-dollar international business in just seven years.

Another thing that is unique about us is that Merri and I decided to do the whole business by ourselves. Though we have tens of thousands of buyers and have made millions, we still work at home and do not employ a single person. You’ll be able to do the same—if you wish—because I’ve included everything we did—explained in vivid detail—in the program.

The program is also full of practical publishing ideas and case studies…

For example, you’ll learn about a pilot who published a book on the best airport cafés (suddenly all his flying became tax-deductible!)… how one couple who loved an island wrote a guide on the place and made enough money to buy a home on the beach there… and how another couple made millions with a simple legal idea.

What’s Your Passion: Travel and Tourism?

A client of ours amassed a fortune by starting travel guides for cities. He started with Sarasota, Florida, publishing a simple booklet with attractions, restaurants, etc. and plenty of advertising. Then he moved onto Naples, and on and on,until the whole state of Florida was done.

He didn’t have to put much work into the booklets as he could carry over plenty of generic information from booklet to booklet. But there were plenty of advertisers and plenty of people who wanted to obtain these booklets.

Finally, he franchised the whole operation.

* How to set up a computerized fulfillment center even if you’re computer illiterate.

* How to turn advertising dollars into a fortune by creating winning ads, direct mail pieces, and getting thousands of dollars in free publicity.

* Which printers to avoid and how to cut your printing bill in half by asking for quotes differently.

* How to use your computer and the internet to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in printing and postage.

* How to control inventory, check ad results, and keep overhead down.

* 11 financial hazards to avoid and tricks to stay profitable without a daily accountant.

* My secret pricing strategies that will help you sell more units of your product.

* Plus much, much more that I don’t have space for here!

Why This Unique System Is Guaranteed to Put You on the Road to Publishing Success

In Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher Merri and I give away every publishing secret we know and expect those who use this powerful program to reap a fortune and change their whole life for the better.

Why we’ll add the Self Published Kindle addition free.

This course is updated regularly, it is based on the trial and error experiences Merri and I have had for the past 43 years… the very experiences that have made us self-fulfilled multimillionaires.

If you’re wondering what a program like this can do for you, just take a look at how much my seminar on publishing helped the participants. Here’s what some of the folks had to say about what they learned:

“The course fulfilled all my expectations providing all the details necessary to start a publishing business from creating the idea, through marketing including the systems necessary to implement our ideas.” — B. C., Chiropractor  California

“Gary, your system is jam packed with vital information. My head is spinning. Thank goodness this is all backed up by your manual. This is a true and cherished gift. Your tips are a blessing! Thank you once again. The value far exceeds the price.”  — B. K., Investor Pennsylvania

“The course was excellent covering all the facets of publishing. The philosophy of keeping small with no employees alone made the course invaluable. Gary and Merri, you were excellent!” — S. K., Businessman
Georgia

“Your program gave me insight on what to do with widening my client base.”
– M.E., Real Estate Broker Florida

“We found the course interesting and informative. We were inspired to start work on a booklet. When we came down, we had no idea what to publish.”
– Employed couple from New York

“Your publishing course is outstanding! Just two hours of study on Sunday alone were worth more than the course price.”
– A publisher from California

“The course helped me in three ways. #1: To realize that it is not only OK but preferable to start small. #2: A small point but with big implications was Merri’s description of how she is going to make Gary an expert in the sport’s field. #3: I feel I have a workable program to have a newsletter — my own passion!”  – T. B., Professional Washington

These are just a few of the many comments I’ve received from people I’ve personally trained at my seminars to turn their passions into profits through publishing.

What’s Your Passion:  Expand Your Current Business?

You don’t have to reinvent the wheel with your publishing business. You can use publishing to expand your current business. That’s what I did — and it’s what the owners of a consulting firm in California did, too.

These business owners decided to write and publish books to establish credibility and attract new customers — and it worked like a charm.

Over the past 10 years, they have written two books, both aimed at establishing their company as the go-to source for customer service training. They credit the books with bringing in more than $1 million in new business!

Writing and books have turned into such a bonanza that they’ve recently added a new service to their business — coaching small business owners on the ins and outs of book publishing.

This brand-new home study version of the program is designed only for people who are serious about making a six- or seven-figure income, controlling their own destiny, or otherwise improving the quality of their life by publishing information products. It is not for idle curiosity.

Here’s How to Start Living a More Fulfilled Life As a Self-Publisher

With this hot-off-the-presses home study version of my self-publishing program, you get all the same information as people who attended that first seminar—but at a fraction of the cost.

They paid $2,000 to gain access to this information, but you can get the entire Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher for only $499!

That’s a real bargain considering that you will save thousands on printing and advertising alone. And you couldn’t duplicate the computer and internet knowledge you’ll gain for $20,000. For starters, you’ll learn:

* How to use the internet to publish

* How to define and target your internet market, and start getting visits

* How to develop your website

* The top 10 internet tips to use and the top 10 traps to avoid

I can tell you this: at $499, this program may very well be the best bargain and best investment you’ll ever make.

Another Positive

Our recent message Touching Positive looked at three ways to cancel negativity and stress.

There is always a bright side and you can read a fourth way to beat negativity and find the positive below.

cotacachi-sunrise

Sunrise over Mt. Imbabura seen from our penthouse apartment. (See more on this penthouse and two other Cotacachi apartments for sale here).

Take for example Daylight Savings Time.

Ecuador does not have daylight savings time so keep in mind they are now running an hour earlier if you set your clocks forward.

This is one thing many people love about Ecuador… 12 hours of daylight 365 days a year!  This is good for health.  The body loves routine.  There is a growing recognition that there are more negatives to Daylight Savings Time  than just  losing sleep and missing appointments because we forgot to turn the clock forward.  There are serious health risks from sleep deprivation and studies have shown the lost hour increases heart attack and accident risk immediately following the change.

Personally I dislike this shift a lot.  As a morning person it means I have to wait longer for the dawn and go to bed while it is still light.  Some Americans are petitioning for the eradication of change.   The “I hate Daylight Savings Time” Facebook has a growing readership page of people who have a dislike of the shift.

Once I decided that our farm in North Carolina would be DST free.  I refused to change the clocks!  What a mess… like a shipper trying to ignore the tides.

Yet there is not a darn thing we can do about it.  I doubt we can impeach the Congress who voted the earlier change in.   We could try!

More effective is to look on the bright side.  Readers at the Huffington Post were asked about the benefits of DST. They gave replies such as:
”More sunshine.”
 – “More daylight after work.”
-  “Not having to drive home work in the dark!”
 – “The reduction in SAD.”
 – “Looking forward to more sunshine (Vitamin D!)”   I can think of better ways to get Vitamin D but these people have the right idea… do the best you can with negativity you cannot control.  Protect yourself and look for the benefits that accrue in the positives.

Our friend and writer’s camp delegate, Todd Smith, has another approach to cancelling negativity. Here is what Todd wrote:

Mindfulness And The Friendly Universe

todd smith

When I read Gary’s newsletter from February 2nd on mindfulness meditation, it inspired me to look again at this ever-present, yet strangely elusive, “now” in which we live.  It is the only reality we can ever pin down, and yet we often avoid it in favor of the future or the past.

Culturing this kind of mindfulness is the focus of my website www.theworkasmeditation.com.  And I use an interesting method to achieve this, which I share with you now.

In that February 2nd newsletter, Gary writes, “Life will happen. There will be change. Some changes we’ll like and some changes will hurt… unless we learn to see problems as opportunity and adapt in positive ways.

No negative approach to any problem or situation works… for long.  So positive really is the only logical way.

So how do we get there… to positive?”

In My Experience, There Are Many Ways

Gary has shared a method called mindfulness meditation.

Today, I’d like to share another practical way to get from negative to positive.

Another path to mindfulness.  And it starts with a simple hypothesis.  An hypothesis that Einstein proposed many years ago.

Einstein said, “I think the most important question facing humanity is, ‘Is the universe a friendly place?’ This is the first and most basic question all people must answer for themselves.”

When We Ask This Question, Something Happens

The mind expands.  We start to see that which was previously threatening as something that is actually stimulating for our growth.  We start to see something positive, where there was only negative.

This is the practice of self-inquiry, an age-old practice of questioning our assumptions about the world.  It is the way of Socrates.  It is the advice of Patanjali.  It is even the tradition of modern science, from which Einstein came.

And while a general understanding of self-inquiry is vaguely helpful, it is the practice of it that transforms experience.

We Are All Born Believers

Whatever our parents told us we believed.  Whatever our friends told us we believed. Whatever conclusions we drew with our own partial understandings of the world, we believed.

It’s our nature to believe.  And so naturally we have built-up a framework of beliefs, some of which are true, and some of which are not.

And it is this framework that colors how we see the world. Our framework of beliefs dictates whether we experience the universe as friendly, or otherwise.

Self-Inquiry Is A Way To Question Our Beliefs Whenever They Hold Us Back
This is a way to bring ourselves back to mindfulness, out of the story of a past or future.  And it is helpful whenever the mind gets caught in the trap of thinking that the universe is not friendly anymore.

This ancient practice of self-inquiry has been systematized into a very simple set of questions, turnarounds, and examples by Byron Katie.

She calls her system, “The Work of Byron Katie.”  ”The Work” for short, because it is work.  It’s not theory, but rather practice.  I have used it over the past six years quite regularly as a practice of mindfulness.  And I facilitate others in this method.

Here’s What It Looks Like

Let’s say you’re struggling with a business partner.  He is dominating the relationship, and hurting the business as a result.

The first thing to do is to identify a very specific incident, where he dominated you. Let’s say he cut you off in a business meeting in front of others.

The next step is to identify the stressful thoughts in your mind at that moment when he cut you off, and to write them down.  There is a useful worksheet called the Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet for this purpose.

Then You Start Questioning Everything You Wrote

This is done is a very systematic way using the four questions of “The Work”  below.  You would use them to question the thought, “He cut me off.”

1. Is it true?
2. Can you absolutely know it’s true?
3. How do you react when you believe that thought?
4  Who would you be without that thought?

Questioning a solid fact like, “He cut me off,” can really open the mind.  And answering these questions can sometimes make it clear that the actual source of stress lies in my thinking, and not in the other person’s actions.
Then You Would Turn The Thought Around
This means finding opposites to the original thought.  For example:

Turnaround to myself:  I cut myself off.

Turnaround to the other:  I cut him off.

Turnaround to the opposite:  He didn’t cut me off.

And then you would find three or more genuine examples of how each turnaround could be as true, or truer, than the original thought.

Let’s Look At A Few Examples

Where did I cut myself off?  When he cut me off, I shut up.  He didn’t make me shut up.  I did that to myself.  So I cut myself off.  And I cut myself off from everyone else in the room.  I hardly uttered a word after that.  I cut myself off, and blamed it all on him.

And where did I cut him off?  I cut off eye contact right away.  I cut him off my good list for sure.  I was no longer open to participating in the discussion.  In fact, I was distant with him for several days after that, further hampering progress in our business.  I cut him off.  In fact, when I compare, I did more cutting off than he did, and in bigger ways.

And how could it be true that he didn’t cut me off, even though it looked like it?
Maybe his cutting me off did not have the same intention that I took it to have. Maybe his cut-off was just a burst of enthusiasm, not an intention to put me down. Maybe he thought I was mature enough to handle it.  Maybe he saw us as equals there.  Maybe it was an open invitation to cut him off as the discussion developed in a very freestyle way.

And isn’t it truer that he cut my words off, he didn’t actually cut me off?  Sure, my ego was invested in what I was saying, but in reality his interruption didn’t have that much to do with the real me at all.  He just cut off my words, which had gotten kind of long-winded anyway.  Maybe he was stopping me from digging a deeper hole than I already had dug.   Maybe he was on my side.  After all, the purpose of the meeting was discussion, and development of ideas, not just rubber stamping my ideas.

So You Get The Idea

Self-inquiry is a chance to consider the very opposite of what you think was going on.  And to come up with concrete examples for each opposite.  This provides balance to the mind.

The original statement may still be true, “He cut me off,” but the charge on it has diminished or disappeared.  This is the power of self-inquiry for bringing us back to the present moment. When you question the stressful thoughts that pull you away from now, there is nothing left to keep you from being present now.

This process can be used to question any stressful thought or belief.  The key points are:

1. Choose a very specific situation (time, place, etc.) where someone upset you.

2. Write down your stressful thoughts about the other person. Using a Judge-Your-Neighbor Worksheet can help.  Don’t just do it in your head.

3. Answer the four questions.

4. Find as many turnarounds (opposites) as you can, and at least three genuine examples for each turnaround.

But Is This Just The Power of Positive Thinking?

It does sound similar, but there is a key difference.  The power of positive thinking is a kind of artificial overlay, a kind of superimposition of what you want reality to be on top of reality.

And this is easily shattered when challenged.

The idea is that if you do this long enough and hard enough, life will become positive, when the reality is that life is already positive.  We don’t need to jigger it.

We just need to see it.  Self-inquiry is inviting you to face reality dead-on, and find the positivity that has always been there.

The result is fearless living, when you discover that the universe really is a friendly place.  Through inquiry, what you thought was a snake, turns out to be nothing but a harmless rope.

You May Enjoy Watching This In Action

Here is a video of me doing The Work with a client about a situation with her ex-boyfriend. Watch as this client challenges her own beliefs using the four questions of The Work, and finds concrete examples of how the opposite of what she was believing could be just as true.

In just a few minutes, her mind, which was obsessed with the past, shifts naturally back to the present.  And her emotions regain balance.

This process can be used for personal issues, work-related issues, or anywhere that you experience stress.  It is a way to go from negative to positive.  Or more accurately from negative and positive to a state of balance between the two, which is nothing other than mindfulness, or awareness of the present moment.

This link will take you to my website, where you can learn more about this simple process of self-inquiry.  And put Einstein’s question to the test, “Is the universe a friendly place?”

Our Super Thinking + Spanish courses are Spanish course that goes way beyond just learning to speak Spanish.

Spanish is the second largest language in the world. Chances are a huge Spanish speaking population lives near you. Yet our language system did not teach us how to communicate with or understand this culture.

Learning Spanish is valuable and important.  Now there is way, to enjoy a long weekend as you learn Spanish at a very affordable price.

Unlock the power of your untapped knowledge.

There are numerous little known, but scientifically proven ways to enhance the speed, accuracy and efficiency of your decision making process for greater wealth, health and happiness. In just three days you can gain almost amazing learning skills.  Plus you become skilled in Spanish as a bonus.

In just three days?

Sound too good to be true?

This is not a gimmick nor a trick. At least three best selling books, Superlearning, the Mozart Effect and Superlearning 2000 have revealed insights about how we can learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.

In 1980 Superlearning sold over two million copies and showed how the Lozanov learning system blended long-tested sciences of yoga with contemporary physiology and psychology so people could learn faster and better.

This book exposed this fact and made the system so popular that Dr. Lozanov was allowed to visit the US from Bulgaria to teach this system to just a very few people so they could pass on this vital information on how to learn and think in a more natural, powerful way so we can enjoy life and enhanced memory more.

Merri was among those few who learned how and is licensed to teach the Lozanov system from this Bulgarian master. She has organized a practical course on how to learn faster and better.

With her modified system, you will learn how to think and learn more powerfully in just three days. To prove how good you will be with this process, you learn Spanish as a side benefit.

The learning system you gain expands on Dr. Lozanov’s original work and offers new insights into tapping human potential, drawing from ancient and modern tactics for quick learning such as subliminal memory, music, nutrition, and productivity.

There are three scientific reasons why this course will change your learning capacity forever (and help you speak Spanish in just four days).

This system uses music to integrate brain waves so the process of absorbing, processing and recalling information is vastly accelerated.  This brings forth the three C’s:  Calm, Clarity and Coherence.

Super Spanish in Canada

Shawn and Suzanne Bandick teach Super Spanish in Mexico and Canada.

Here is one more rave from Shawn and Suzanne’s Mexico course.
super spanish course images

The Super Thinking system works by focusing on the learner first… the data second.  The system “grows the learner” rather than just expands the information.  The explosion of data we must all process everyday means there is too much information to process already.    Let’s view this learning in terms of plumbing to outline what “Growing the Learner”  means.

If you have 4.5 inches of information flowing through a 4 inch learning pipe, the solution is not to add another inch of information.  The answer is to first create a six inch pipe and then an even larger pipe…a never ending expansion of abilities!

You learn how to evoke the power of the senses thus super-charging memory. Ever hear a song from twenty, thirty or forty years past and in a snap know all the words, the tune and remember with who and where your heard it decades ago? Learn how to use ten cycle music to gain almost super human thinking powers.

Dr. Lozanov was totally committed to learning without stress, to enjoy the thrill of relaxed, leisurely learning. These are just two, whole learning, super-thinking tactics you gain at this course.

What is your desire? Do you want to speak Spanish, French, German, Chinese or any language? Would you like to golf better or accomplish more in school? Would you like to easily, quickly zip through projects, chores, reports? Merri’s “Super Thinking” course can help you learn any subject two-to-five times faster, in exciting and innovative ways.

The techniques you gain will help unlock the quantum potential we all possess. This evolutionary program shows how certain types of music can enhance learning and how even altered nutrition can make you a startling 25 percent smarter, how subliminal messages can increase your energy and thinking process, plus much, much more.

Merri’s system follows and builds upon what was taught in the Superlearning, the Mozart Effect and Superlearning 2000 books plus includes techniques and strategies that she has gained in her 42 years of global travel and study with educational masters around the world.

This is a course that shows you how to increase your mental power to better succeed in the 21st century when we can otherwise be overwhelmed by information.

The system you gain is built from old and new sources ranging from yoga to contemporary Russian science, and ultimate zone training already used by many Olympic champions.

“Super Thinking plus Spanish” presents new ways to use music to supercharge your mind. The knowledge you gain about smart food and super nutrition allows you to enhance productivity and creativity.

The tactics you gain enhance your ability to absorb… retain and recall information.

Once these concepts of enhancing your mental powers with music are understood, you will know how to create your own program and build new skills at work in study and play.

Second you gain seventeen, easy to use learning techniques that can help you gain any romantic language in much less time than traditional learning techniques.

Spiro Michas teaching in Motevideo.

Fluency in a language is considered to come when you know 1,200 words. To prove that it is possible to gain this and much more, let me share just one of the 17 tactics Merri taught me that gives you thousands of Spanish words in less than three minutes.

Here are the thousands of Spanish words lesson #1:

All words in Spanish and English that end in ION are almost identical,  just pronounced differently. For example action is accion, education educacion, manipulation, manipulacion, etc.

Now you already literally know hundreds of Spanish nouns. This is just one of seventeen Spanish lessons you gain. The next lesson teaches you how to pronounce each of these nouns. Then you learn in a third lesson almost as many verbs, almost as quickly.

Third, you learn how to avoid conjugating verbs by sticking with the infinitive (far easier than it sounds). This simple lesson leaves you sounding like a Spanish professor (believe me I know as I use this tactic every day when in Ecuador).

There are many other lessons. For example lesson five shows how to sound infinitely polite and yet get almost anything you want in Spanish. Lesson six gives you the valuable connectors and the seventh lesson triples your Spanish capacity with yesterday, now and tomorrow.

By the end of the three day course you will feel quite comfortable speaking Spanish without stress!

A delegate who learned Super Spanish outlined how this course can help you.   After three days, I can speak Spanish in complete sentences. In simple conversations, such as buying groceries or ordering a meal, I can make myself understood. I think that’s incredible!  Although I am far from the competence level of a native speaker, I feel I’ve taken a giant step forward in learning Spanish so that I can experience the people and culture of Ecuador.  The foregoing benefits would have more than justified the time and money I invested in Super Thinking Super Spanish. And learning Spanish was not the most important benefit I got from the course.  In recent years, I’ve rarely relaxed (No wonder I have had high blood pressure!) .   In class, the past three days, I’ve been introduced to the calming effects of Baroque music.  What a blessing! I’m inclined to make this a daily part of my life.   Rob Christi

The Super Spanish helps you start speaking and understanding Spanish right away.  This can help you speak Spanish faster and make your traditional Spanish course easier and more effective.

A Livescience.com article helps explain why this course works and how delegates are creating Spanish sentences by the first lunch break and can communicate well in Spanish after just three days.   This article by Jeremy Hsu, LiveScience Senior Writer, is entitled “CIA Seeks Anyone, Anyone Who Can Speak 2 Languages”

Four important points in the article are shown in excerpts below with my comments to show what has been wrong with traditional Spanish courses and why the Super Thinking tactic is perfect for this program.

The article says: WASHINGTON, D.C. — Many Americans don’t learn a second or a third language from birth, let alone a language that the CIA or U.S. Foreign Service might want. The situation has forced U.S. government agencies to learn how to cultivate the most talented second-language speakers from among college students with little to no other-language expertise.

“In U.S. education, we don’t develop early bilinguals,” said Catherine Doughty, a language expert at the University of Maryland.

Doughty spoke as part of a panel on Feb. 19 during the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) conference in Washington, D.C. Finding the best.  Government agencies aren’t alone in trying to recruit multilingual speakers; U.S. corporations covet such skills for doing business in the era of globalization.

The article explained how Doughty and her colleagues used tests to train up cognitive processes related to language learning, such as the ability to hold information in the brain while using it for learning.  The tests sought to predict those who can succeed despite everything stacked against them.

The article reviewed changes in the brain.  Lee Osterhout is a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of Washington in Seattle.  His lab used electrodes placed on the scalp to measure the electrical activity created by the signals of brain cells. That allowed the researchers to see differences in the brain patterns among language learners and fluent speakers. They found some surprising results.

The article pointed out: Repeated studies of French language students showed that their brains responded differently to real French words compared with fake words after just two weeks of classes, even if the students themselves could not tell such words apart.

“From knowing nothing to a little bit, [there are] huge changes in the brain,” Osterhout pointed out.”[From] knowing a little to knowing a lot, [it is] much more subtle.”  Another surprise came from studies of Spanish-speaking immigrants, because neither age nor language proficiency seemed to predict how quickly the immigrants picked up English. Instead, the fastest learners showed both the greatest motivation to learn and a willingness to use English at every opportunity despite being bad at it (at first).

MY COMMENT: This is the other reason why Super Thinking plus Spanish works. This three day course gets the delegates speaking and thinking Spanish all the time so they can use and/or think Spanish every day… and communicating even from the beginning. In this way the education grows even when Spanish is not being spoken.

The Super Thinking course first integrates the brain.  Students learn better with relaxed concentration. Then the course teaches them 17 simple lessons so they know 4005 words in Spanish and can use them to create sentences. In this way, you can communicate in just three days.

Travel, accommodations and food are not included.

Gary

Yet your Spanish will just be one result from learning how to think better!  You will be able to use your new learning powers in amazing ways.

Here are what delegates wrote about a Super Thinking + Spanish seminar.

“Hi Gary & Merri, You two are the BEST!!! Your Seminar was fantastic! I am so excited. I had procrastinated fulfilling my continuing education for my Broker’s License and then just before my surgeries, I realized by expiration date isn’t Nov. 12th – it is Sept 12th. Well, as you can see prior to taking your course I had only completed 3 units of the required 45 units. I thought I would take your course and then complete my remaining 42 units over the next 2 weeks. However, I took one class exam on Saturday night, August 27th. I didn’t even take the cellophane off the required Course manuals until after I saw the two of you today less than 5 hours ago! I used your techniques and completed 39 units of continuing education today. I have now completed all 45 units. All of my test scores were in the 90.6-96% range. My course exam information is listed below. I just wanted to let you know how valuable your course was to me. Thanks again!” Suzy Kurinsky

John Sloan teaching Super Thinking + Spanish in Costa Rica.

Another wrote:  Thanks for the Spanish course.  This technique is truly a breakthrough in learning.  I believe I learned more Spanish in four days than I learned in four weeks in a previously attended Costa Rica language school.  The Costa Rica school taught a very limited number of memorized words and phrases. Ted.

Another delegate at a Super thinking plus Spanish seminar wrote:  The Super Thinking approach exposed us to a broad variety of works and the technique needed to expand the language.  Again, Thanks for the experience.

One attendee wrote: I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything during the seminar. You guys are indeed a shining example of having a business that truly serves others. And thanks for the extra time spent and good things taught to me personally. I have begun to implement them already and will continue to apply them. And you might be interested that waiting for my flight home I ended up sitting next to a woman from Quito and could understand some of what she said in a cell phone conversation. We talked a little and she said that I should visit Ecuador!  Thank you again for your real graciousness and acceptance! I will also write to Merri and thank her as well. And I wish that I could do something for you two!

Another wrote: Thank you!  We  always look forward to spending time and learning about so many fascinating things. Like Minded people and Vivaldi! What could be better?

Another sent this note: Thank you for the wonderful workshop on Super Learning + Spanish!  I really enjoyed the workshop.

Since I returned home, I have purchased some of the CDs of Baroque music and thought about which specific pieces will work best in different parts of my classes.  I am also reading Perfect Health by Deepak Chopra.  I found your discussion of this book to be very helpful in showing how to balance one’s life.  I have adjusted my daily schedule, and I can already notice a difference in my productivity.

Thank you for sending the file of the 4005 Spanish words.  This will be very helpful in my daily review of Spanish.

Another emailed this: Every day I’m becoming more proficient in Spanish.  As I get ready to do something, I think about how I would say it in Spanish.  Thank you again for a Super Workshop!  With love and blessings,

Another: It certainly was an interesting and intriguing four days for me.  I enjoyed the Spanish but even more so, all the tentacles that extended during those four days that went into so many different directions.

I grew up in a very SQUARE box with loving  and intelligent parents but my world remained within this box, unable to see beyond those walls, as I was never encouraged to “think outside the box”..  Mike has been opening doors and leading me outside this box but because of my upbringing I have not completely embraced or understood what was beyond those doors he opened for me.  As I have gotten older I have become more open to the world outside those doors yet those old tapes continue to play and I have not been able to completely release myself and experience all that can be.

Another shared this: Listening to the two of you during our time together has suddenly got me to thinking, and although some of the ideas still seem foreign to me,  I am at a point in my life now where I can say, “anything is possible” and I am now willing to embrace and allow myself to experience the world of possibility and let it take me in directions I may have in the past resisted.  I really don’t know where all this is going to lead me but I am now willing to explore, develop and grow.

I found all the information you offered on healing, realigning the body, nutrition, etc. so fascinating, have you ever thought about doing a course on just that?  With the aging population and the health care issues I think it would be not only an interesting course but one that would be very beneficial to so many.  I, personally, would love to learn more about what you talked about and plan on purchasing the book, “Body Renewal, the Lost Art of Self Healing” for my Kindle.

Thank you again for a wonderful four days!!

Another:  We had fun at Disney World on Monday and sat beside several Personnes Espaniol.  We could understand them however I couldn’t make sentences quickly, but could say one or two word phrases that were understood.  We arrived home at 3am yesterday – the airlines were very late in Denver due to a crew incident.

I found myself making up sentences all day yesterday as I was running errands.  John knows more vocabulary than I at this point as he has studied Spanish previously.  Today I will begin to review the lessons and construct sentences to send to you and the group – as you suggested below.  Es en BUENO sugestion!!!  I also received the email Merri sent with the 4005 words and started to scroll through those yesterday.

Another: Thank YOU for everything you have done to create and bring this wonderful experience to all of us.  It takes a well sychronized team of people to put on an effective, change producing seminar!  I have given many seminars and enjoyed the experience immensely.  The outcome is even better!  Estoy une infantil de Super Thinking and Spanish, y es possible aprender en tiempo.

John and I both thank all of you for the wonderful experience – we are working now to clear up things so we can leave for the Galapagos and Ecuador November 25th – December 20th.  Nosotros tiene muchos appreciacion!  Gracias y Abrazos,

Another:
Muchas gracias para la informacion!  I had a wonderful time at the Super Learning + Spanish weekend!… excelente!

I was impressed with your depth of knowledge on numerous subjects and your ability to speak about them with exceptional recall.  Con mucho apriciar,  P.S. Yo estoy enteresado en Espanol #2.

One delegate even explained how after our course they ended up as the accidental translator: Gary,  I have sent a couple of messages, and  a story of Mike being able to translate yesterday for a Spanish person  who couldn’t understand what a man was trying to tell him!

We loved the seminar, and are excited to put the super learning to practice, and especially the great company of like-minded people (especially G & M!)  Muchas Gracias!  Tiene an excellante dias.

One delegate communicated entirely in Spanish…. after just our Super Thinking + Spanish seminar: Buenas dias nuestra maestra perfectamente, Merri!   Muchas gracias por la lista espanol.

Claro, David y yo aprendemous mucho espanol el fine de semana pasada. Gary y usted nos hacen espanol muy facil aprender. Es importante continuar a practicar espanol cada dia. Gracias tambien!  Buenas suerte…hasta la vista! Con mucho amor,

Comments from another delegate: I wanted you to know that the Spanish course has proven incredibly helpful. Dealing with internet service providers and shopping for appliances, etc., normally would have required me hiring a translator to follow me around. While it may not be pretty or 100% grammatically correct, I am understood. Thank you!  Saludos!

Whether your goal is to reduce your cost of living… increase your income… enhance the return on your investments or all, being able to speak Spanish… enhances your opportunity and does the world good.

Lose Weight and Inches With Frequency Modulation

See an example from a Super Thinking + Spanish delegate who lost 55 pounds after taking our course.   See how Jim Reed used our Super Thinking + Spanish course to enhance his health and wealth as well as speak Spanish.

The ability to speak Spanish… even if you never leave the US is valuable in this day and age.   Spanish opens access to a good labor force and helps you communicate with a useful part of the American population.

Beyond Spanish… knowledge is bliss. Ignorance is dangerous in these times of rapid change.  The more knowledge we can absorb, retain and recall… the better our chances of success… higher income… less stress…. better health and more fulfillment.

So it’s little wonder that the attendance at our Super Thinking + Spanish and Quantum Wealth courses have grown dramatically.   Our changing world not only reinforces the need to speak Spanish but also requires us to be smarter.

Super Thinking plus Spanish courses are among the few I know that not only share valuable information but help the delegates become smarter so they absorb, retain and recall the education more effectively.  The course does this through the power of music… a power we all already have within. Let’s see some examples.   Meet Jim Reed.

Ecuador-weight-loss as:

Jim is a retired airline pilot who moved to Ecuador a year ago and lived in our Casa Blanca condos for a year.  He has become an Ecuador resident and built a house.   I interviewed him on one of our trips to Cotacachi.

Like so many others I have spoken with who have attended our Super Thinking + Spanish course… he claims to be much happier… more relaxed and has become healthier, shedding medication and weight.

Jim lost 55 pounds in the last year and, as reported by so many… without trying… without eating less… without any feeling of deprivation.

One fact that many who enjoyed wonderful positive changes when they have attended our Super Thinking course is they learned to use music in a very specific way to reach the quantum states of their intellect.

Here are more raves from delegates of this course:

I have so enjoyed attending your seminars.  I look at is as a place to gain  “tools for life” as well as  receiving a plethera of information on the topics at hand.

(So far we attended  Spanish and investing.) I get equally as much value out of the tools, and mindset in viewing the information that can be applied to life in general as well as the topic at hand. So thanks for enjoying what you do… it definitely shows up in real world application.

At each seminar we meet many interesting and unique folk – I think the audience you draw  can think out of the box at least a little bit! So again thanks for gathering such a wonderful array of resources for us.

Another emailed:  We so enjoyed the language class last weekend!

Carolyn came back with your simple, common sense approach and the new tools to start speaking.

Most remarkable is that she feels comfortable putting together sentences and ‘communicating.’ Somehow many of us seem to get caught in the trap of thinking we have to say it ‘right,’ and so we don’t even try. It is interesting that we do not see ourselves ‘creating’ communication in our native tongue; each saying it a little different than the other, and yet still all getting the ‘communication’ across the bridge in our own manner.

We delighted to know you both better, and greatly admire your passion for life and generosity sharing what you have learned.

We are planning to attend the next business seminar you offer. Carolyn is talking about returning for the Fall Spanish Super Thinking class with a girlfriend.

We are excited by the many new challenges we have found through your offerings.

Another a dentist said: I was so delighted with my experience at the Spanish training.  I felt more confident of ability to pronounce Spanish than I ever was of French or German.  Funny… I did not think I remembered any French or German but when I cannot remember the Spanish words the German and French popped up.  Practicing my pronunciation made my trip home go faster. I never enjoyed pronouncing either of the other two, but this was fun. It is hard to fall asleep at the wheel when you are moving your mouth to speak Spanish. It does work your mouth in a different way.  I realized that you have to say each syllable slowly and correctly(until you get it perfectly) and when you do it is impressive.

It was amazing to see us all writing such advanced sentences after a few days and so much more enjoyable than having to go through the alphabet to build the words to build the sentences.

Another Wrote: I intended to give it a few days before I wrote to you about my experience in the Spanish + SuperThinking  Course. However, I had such dramatic results today, in the physical rather than the cognitive realm, that I had to share this immediately.

I started my day with Baroque music. Before I began my Spanish lesson, I went through the Mayan Waves Brain Refresher (Brain Sync). I also played an alpha wave composition while I completed a lesson in the morning. I repeated the process this afternoon. Before my high intensity interval training (HIIT) workout in the evening, I put on a gamma brain wave video from you tube faster reading gamma waves help with exercise. I preformed the “Halo Of Sweat” workout from an online fitness site. Around the world, people complete the workout and posts their scores, striving to meet or beat the personal trainer. Frankly, my reps have rarely come close to the reps of the woman featured in the video nor have I ever beat her. Until today.

Not only did I come close to her performance, I surpassed her quite significantly with several exercises. I performed my best in the last exercise, Abs Burn Out. Her scores were 38, 34 and 33 and mine were 60, 40 and 47!

I believe several factors allowed me to achieve this acceleration in athletic ability today:

1. My left and right hemispheres are now harmonizing.
2. The meditation and relaxed concentration techniques I learned are coming more easily to me and effective.
3. My focus and concentration are greatly enhanced.

I am a Pilates professional so to have my exercise regimen improve so swiftly is remarkable. Not only am I now able speak Spanish but I am experiencing optimal health as well. I am deeply grateful to you and Merri for your SuperLearning instruction.  Be well,

Three Cotacachi Apartments

We have three Cotacachi apartments for sale… for $149,000… for all three aprtments.

This is a Cotacachi building we fixed up and no longer want to manage.

See why this is a bargain below.  One great thing is that what is expensive up north…tile, hardwood etc. is the standard construction material here so we created a premium complex. .

The entrance.

Cotacachi-condos

Construction costs are low and the craftsmen are handy…they’ll do things you ask and also make excellent suggestions along the way.

For example, outside our top unit, we have a small roof garden… with really great views.

The flowers will grow really fast in the Ecuador sun!

Another renter wrote:

Merri,  I just wanted to let you know how beautifully the workshop went. Great attendees were a big part of it, but the performance of your staff,  particularly Mauricio, kept everyone in a great mood.  He was a fountain of local information, as well as dedicated to making sure that everyone’s needs were attended to.

The apartments rival La Mirage in comfort and beauty. My wife showed it off to about half the attendees. Particular praise came for the unique dining table on the top floor.

Thanks again for helping to make everything a success.  Regards to Gary and Ma.

In all the building has about 3,500 + square feet of floor space… tremendous views and is exactly in the center of town… next door to our hotel and just down the street from the main plaza and this main Cathedral.

cotacachi-ecuador-condo

The $149,000 sales price means it is selling at below $35 a square foot, well below construction costs and the furniture is included!  When fully rented at $600 a month, the cash flow is 11.5%.

This price is for the entire building, three apartments on four floors offering over 3,500 square feet of floor space.

This offers a good income opportunity.

Water costs $7.78 a month for all three apartments. Electricity $26.86 a month for all three apartments. four cylinders of gas per apartment $2.50 each cylinder.  The taxes for the last year were $61.71 for the entire year.  Insurance is in the $250 a year range. We pay $10 for cleaning after a unit is vacated.

Cotacachi is two hours north of Quito on the Pan Am Highway.

Cotacachi Real Estate in Ecuador’s Phase II

Here is an El  Encanto House for sale in Cotacachi Ecuador.

Ecuador is moving into phase II… more expensive… more government intrusion but better facilities and many more choices of places suitable for western expats.

I have been watching one of the premier developments on the periphery of Cotacachi since before its inception.

The owner originally asked me what I thought about plans he was developing.

I loved it… the land is rich… yet

Cotacachi-Real-Estate

close to the center of the village.

Cotacachi-real-estate

Here is a shot I took from the project of Cotacachi’s main church.  The position is so close… an easy walk… yet feels like being in the country.

The owner, Milton Proano and his son Angel, began this development several years ago and have built 15 houses so far. 12 have been sold.

Cotacachi-real-estate

Here is Milton and Angel in the first house being developed on this Cotacachi real estate project.

This is Cotacachi’s premier real estate development because Milton and Angel have had it designed by one of Ecuador most famous architects Patrico Falconi.

Here are the beams in the first house that was built to see an example of…

Cotacachi-real-estate

the beam’s trim… a Falconi house signature.

Positioning to gain a great view is one of Falconi’s attributes.   We can see this in the front window view of one of the El Encanto houses.

Cotacachi-real-estate

Water features are in Falconi’s armory and the El Enconto project is…

Cotacachi-Real-Estate

perfect with this stream… leading to…

Cotacachi-Real-Estate

this wonderful pond. You cannot see the water here (photographer’s – as in my – error), but it’s perfect and is located near the houses.

These Cotacachi houses also have solid construction features like extra damp course. This is an important addition because many builders skip this protection.  Buyers are sorry when the damp course is missed!

In short these are premium houses with everything… killer views… and the owner, developer who is one of the most respected business people in the village, lives right next door to the development.

El Encanto was the first Patricio Falconi designed top end community in Cotacachi.  Falconi is known as the Best Architect in Ecuador.

There are currently two houses available

The first is a 1590 sq ft two bedroom, 2 bathroom single story for $137,000.00.   This is ready to move in on September 15.

The second is a 2,180 sq ft 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom two story home with amazing views. The price is $187,800.00.  This house is ready to move in now.

New houses require 40% to start building.  30% is due in 4 months when the roof is ready.  30% at final signing and move in 4 or 6 months later.

The construction area may vary according to owner’s desires and needs.

Waterproof system to stop humidity in the walls .

Construction with bricks and wooden columns with fine wood (Apple wood, red wood and tangare), the construction base has been build with volcanic stones hand crafted, all homes are beautifully constructed with arches throughout the interior and exterior.

All houses have glass windows with an excellent view to the Mt. Imbabura or Mt. Cotacachi.

All house include utilities as water, electricity, sewer, and internet service.

Each house has a large porch, large social area, living room, dining room, kitchen, cellar, laundry room; two bedrooms, the master room with walk-in closet, large bathroom with shower and a tub; the home has two fireplaces one located in the porch and the other one in the living room.

All houses are designed for people with physical limitations, and all offer mobility to move around the entire house with a walker or wheelchair.

The first phase will have 24 houses, each house with a different design, to avoid that the view of the other houses is not affected.  There will be three more phases.

The project is in a safe place, within 5 minutes from the downtown area.

Blueprints and supervision of the entire project directed by architect Patricio Falconi.

26 Acre Ecuador Agricultural Finca (farm) for Sale

(This listing is now off the market)

26 acre Inca Mountain Ecuador coffee finca  for sale $175,000, 1 ¾ hour drive from Cotacachi, 1 hour west of Ibarra on a great highway.

Screen shot 2012-07-25 at 12.29.30 PM

A July 24, 2012 New York Times article “Fed Leaning Closer to New Stimulus if No Growth Is Seen”  by Binyamin Appelbaum says:  A growing number of Federal Reserve officials have concluded that the central bank needs to expand its stimulus campaign unless the nation’s economy soon shows signs of improvement, including job growth.

In other words the Fed is thinking of printing more money.

Here is what Warren Buffet thinks of this as discussed in his philosophy of investing at his latest shareholders meeting.  He sees holdings as fitting into three types. First, investments that are denominated in a given currency (interest-rate products): money-market funds, bonds, mortgages, bank deposits, and other instruments. He calls these some of the most dangerous assets. “Their beta may be zero, but their risk is huge.” As the Fed continues to print money, the dollar continues to lose value. Thus the high risk of holding dollar-denominated assets.

“Even in the U.S., where the wish for a stable currency is strong, the dollar has fallen a staggering 86% in value since 1965 . . . For tax-paying investors like you and me, the picture has been far worse. During the same 47-year period, continuous rolling of U.S. Treasury bills produced 5.7% annually. That sounds satisfactory. But if an individual investor paid personal income taxes at a rate averaging 25%, this 5.7% return would have yielded nothing in the way of real income. This investor’s visible income tax would have stripped him of 1.4 points of the stated yield, and the invisible inflation tax would have devoured the remaining 4.3 points. It’s noteworthy that the implicit inflation “tax” was more than triple the explicit income tax that our investor probably thought of as his main burden. “In God We Trust” may be imprinted on our currency, but the hand that activates our government’s printing press has been all too human.”

Buffets third type of investment are the ones that produce products or services such as farms.

That is why I found this paid ad for an Ecuador coffee farm of great interest… producing an almost 25% return on investment (if one works the farm).

The original owner spent two years searching for the perfect location to duplicate the exact terrain, altitude and growing conditions of the most successful coffee farms of Boquete, Panama and Columbia.  They now have another investment opportunity and are selling this Ecuador coffee finca to raise cash.

This is a micro climate, blessed with abundant rainfall, in clean mountain air, bounded by a clear trout filled year around rushing river, protected from extremes of wind and large temperature fluctuations,  perfect for growing coffee.

It has 11 hectares planted (manageable for a single owner), with approximately 50,000 Arabica, varietal Caturra (self pollinating) coffee trees which  are perfectly distributed over a hillside interspersed with a variety of fruit trees for shade.

No problem selling this crop for top dollar due to its proven high quality.  The coffee sales last year grossed $70,000 so after $25,000 expenses, $45,000 was the net income.

This Andean  location provides an ideal environment for coffee growing without damaging the unique habitat of many species of birds.   Arabica coffee trees are a major source of oxygen production.  Each hectare produces 86 pounds of oxygen per day which is 50% of rain forest habitat.  Ecuador is a biologically diverse country with an abundance of birds, amphibians, reptiles and butterflies.  Inca Mountain Coffee Farm is ecologically in harmony with its environment.

The Arabica coffee trees are 6 years old, providing remarkable yields, allowing for continuous flowering and two annual harvests (major harvest Feb-Jun and minor harvest Oct-Nov).

Inca Mountain Coffee Farm is about 1 1/2 hours from Ibarra, a large city in northern Ecuador.  The farm is fully operational with owner and worker houses, pulping machines and 2 full time experienced employees.  There is continuous mountain water available and an irrigation system in place for the dry season (but rarely used).

Well defined rainy and dry seasons, perfect altitude, patio drying, ideal differences in day and night time temperature, and selective hand picking has culminated in Inca Mountain Coffee beans with an intense aroma, sparkling acidity and balanced body.

In the yearly Golden Cup competition, coffee from this farm was a finalist in 2011.  An additional bonus is that the nearby canton police station provides added security for this secluded  mountain community of San Geronimo.  Extremely low expenses highlight this verdant coffee farm that will provide a consistent yearly income.

Owner was selling to fund new investment opportunity and the farm is no longer available.

Imagine having a multi dimensional opportunity like this.

There are opportunities to own an Ecuador farm with a combination of beach front and agriculture.

ecuador-agriculture-tour

Delegates visiting Ecuador farm on beachfront with multi dimensional opportunity.

See three case studies of Ecuador farms… large, medium and small that offer a sustainable, healthy lifestyle and income protected from inflation.

Merri and I have always focused on turning our passions into profit and we all love living on farm land!

Learn to tap root values and create multi dimensional opportunity on a farm is part of the new way of creating a better lifestyle.

Merri and I live on a farm in North Carolina… a orange grove in Florida and  our first Ecuador property purchased many years ago was also agricultural land… over 900 acres… formerly in sugar cane, citrus, pineapples and avocados… the top soil deep and rich.

ecuador-farm-land

Here is a photo of Merri feeding one of our horses.  We still have this hacienda, Rosaspamba, (the place of the roses).

Plus we have added more agricultural land to our portfolio… and are looking to add more.  We love earning from our crops as well as writing seminars and tours.

You can live a wonderful pure lifestyle like this on an Ecuador farm.

Economic history since before WWI suggests that we’ll see the final crunch of this 15 year bear in 2011 and perhaps 2012.  Then the light at the end of the tunnel will appear… slowly at first but picking up a head of steam aiming for the next bubble of something like 2030.

Already the price of farm land globally has been soaring and often in North America is out of reach for individuals.

This is why in the last several years I have been writing about and adding agricultural real estate to one’s portfolio.

There are few places with as much agricultural potential and diversity as Ecuador. It is not surprising that many readers want to own and live on Ecuador farmland.

Ecuador agriculture can offer a better lifestyle and opportunity at an affordable price.

Sometimes we forget the importance of life’s basics…such as food.  Until those basics cost more than we can afford.

Why Ecuador agriculture is special is explained in a Wall Street Journal article that began: “Prices of farm goods are climbing – in part because of demand for crop-based fuels – pushing up food prices around the world and creating a new source of inflationary pressure. The rise in food prices is already causing distress among consumers in some parts of the world — especially relatively poor nations like India and China. If the trend gathers momentum, it could contribute to slower global growth by forcing consumers to spend less on other items or spurring central banks to fight inflation by raising interest rates.”

This is one of the wonderful benefits of Ecuador agriculture, the extreme supply of excellent but low cost food.

Ecuador is a Garden of Eden and here is a fact you probably did not know. The inhabitants of this region developed more than half the agricultural products that the world eats today. Among these are more than many varieties of corn and potato. These foods also include squash, beans, peppers, peanuts, popcorn, yucca and quinoa.

They even learned to use freezing night temperatures and warm days to freeze dry potatoes and create potato flour.

At the market, three blocks from our hotel where we shop.  Open air restaurants in the front of the market offer excellent meals, vegetarian, or chicken, steak, fish or pork for about $1.

There are numbers of  fresh picked vegetables offered by happy friendly people.

And every type of fruit you can imagine, from pineapple to coconut, papaya, mango, apples, pears, bananas, berries and numerous other tropical fruits all at bargains prices by Western standards and ripe all year round.

Many exotic spices at a 1/20th the cost in the US or Canada. This makes life especially wonderful and inexpensive.

This is why I am pleased that Jean Marie Butterlin is conducting Ecuador real estate tours.  He wrote:  We live now as well in Bahia Ecuador on $2,000 a month as we did in Europe on $10,000 a month.

When you are planning to retire and live the good life, you should look at both parts of the equation, expenses and what you can earn.I have been able to lower my expenses considerably by living in Bahia.  We live in front of the Malecon enjoying the sun 320 days per year.

But the key to retirement is really in the INCOME part of the equation.   How can you generate income without working too hard?

The answer is to have an “outside the box”  plan.  If you do what everybody else does, chances are you’ll earn what everyone else does.

A lot of younger clients on our real estate tours ask  “How can  I generate a little income in Ecuador”?  They say they would move down immediately if they could. This started me thinking  about how to show a few select clients a chance to be part of that world of retirees in Ecuador who work only at what they like.

I have put together a special plan for those seeking to move and earn in Ecuador now!

Here is the plan and here are the facts:

* Every economist is currently saying that agriculture will be the next place to invest because :

  • God is not making more arable land.
  • The world is running out of food.  China has been buying and leasing arable land all over Africa and in South America for example.  A lot of the smart money is going into arable all over the continent.

* Ecuador has some of the cheapest yet best agricultural land in all of South America.  The climate is best for growing as well with 365 days a year of direct sunlight.  In many parts of Ecuador, farmers can get 3 and even 4 harvests per year, depending on the water available on the property.

* However, most Ecuadorian farmers have not yet learned how to produce and manage a farm. They are lacking higher education and management skills as well as equipment.  Some Ecuador farmers still plow with oxen.

*  Many Ecuadorian farmers do not know how to sell and do not treat the farm as a real business.

There is a great opportunity that lies in this combination of cheap, arable land, the geographical place of Ecuador on the equator and lack of good agronomical skills.

This is a tour for those who want to learn about Ecuador farms. and have $50,000 or more to invest in their home and income opportunity.

This tour will be conducted over three long, jam packed days to provide you a low cost efficient way to inspect Ecuador agricultural property that is legitimately for sale at a reasonable price.

Day 1 - 9 am to 6 pm: Detailed presentations by agri engineers and specialists of several type of agri businesses. These presentations  include costs, types of soils for each type of crop, risk analysis, potential profits, timing, where to find the buyers of crops,  introduction to buyers  looking for specific crops.

On the tour we look “outside the box” at crops that can for example produce “biofuel”. We’ll look at land where one company in Manta will buy every available crop at market price.   We know the owners of that company and you will be introduced to them.

Day 2: Visits farms for sale.  Here is one farm we will inspect.  This agri property has 203 hectares (507 acres) divided into:

28 hectares (70 cares) of balsa trees.  In 5 years these will fetch $30,000 a hectare.

30 hectares (75 acres) of African palm trees in production (the nuts fetch $250 per ton).

Ecuador-agricultural-land

- 140 hectares (350 acres) of pasture sufficient for 200 head of cattle or other crops that can produce an excellent return.

- 3 small

and one large river along the property with water availability.

Ecuador-agricultural-land

- Close to the main road

Ecuador-agricultural-land

- $6600/hectare ($2,640 an acre) asking including a small casita for caretakers.

Day 3: The tour inspects residential real estate… condos and houses for close to farms in nearby coastal cities including Bahia.

We will have inspected and investigated all properties prior paying special attention to three special issues:

* water on site
* access roads
* good port close

We will only show land that has water in Manabi province near Manta the second largest port in Ecuador.

We will have investigated electricity, pricing and title plus will have speakers during breakfast and dinners who will discuss these  issues and the legal matters pertaining to agri businesses in Ecuador.

These experts will be available for consulting during the tour and later… covering technical matters on which crops are best suited for each soil and what times of the year are best for planting and harvest.  The tour pays special attention to reviewing the marketing aspect of each crop and where to find buyers.

We use our contacts with local people were born in the area… who know the land owners… who know what the “market” price should be and we do not show farmland where the seller is asking an unrealistic price or if there are any doubts about ownership or clear title.

We also provide administration, accounting and legal consultants who will answer questions about owning and running a company in Ecuador, a civil code country and very different from the US and Canada which run on common law.

You can set the date for your own tour.

The Ecuador farm tour fee is $799 for single or  $999 couple.

For efficiency and logistics, this tour is strictly limited to 15 people… 4 persons per four wheel drive vehicle.

Ecuador has many Agricultural Advantages and we have been recommending the idea of investing in Ecuador agriculture for years.

This creates opportunity as well.

Ecuador’s geographical location gives it a distinct advantage in agricultural production. Its exports include asparagus, bananas, broccoli, cocoa, coffee, flowers, hearts of palm, lentils, papaya, passion fruit, pineapple, plantain, mango, red beans, and tomatoes. Ecuador has mainly an agricultural economy, though oil is its largest source of revenue, and industry has expanded. Agriculture employs 32 percent of the workforce. 6.4 million acres is used in agriculture. Permanent pasture covers 17 percent of the total area and forests nearly 43 percent. In the highlands subsistence agriculture and the production of staples for the urban areas are predominant (corn, wheat, barley, potatoes, pulses, and various vegetables). In the coastal lowlands tropical crops are grown to export. Ecuador is the largest exporter of bananas in the world and among the largest exporters of shrimp and roses.

Merri and I have been recommending Ecuador for over 15 years…we have been recommending investing in agricultural property for even longer. Agricultural property in Ecuador makes excellent sense for those who like both ideas.  We are very pleased that Jean Marie has created this excellent tour.  We are happy to share this opportunity with you.

Gary

Included in the price is the tour… the guides and are all local transportation.  Airfare to Ecuador… domestic airfare from Quito to Manta, lodging and meals are NOT included.

Attendees on this tour will range from those who want their own sustainable farm or a full agricultural business.

Three Ecuador Farm Case Studies

Here are three case studies for three Ecuador farms… small… medium and large. (These farms are no longer on the market).

Case Study #1:  A good case study for those looking for a way of life and an income supplement is this  six acre organic tomato farm offered at $85,000 that delegates on on a real estate tour visited.   This shows a perfect little Ecuador retirement operation, so where should we start?

I think it is with the guinea pigs…

A reader recently sent this note.

Hello Gary,  Your energy level is amazing.  Obviously you enjoy your work and highly active lifestyle and involvement.  Having recently moved to Ecuador after living in pro development Panama and Costa Rica for 3 years, I am alarmed by your current agriculture investment article.  Without a thorough understanding of the socio-economic impact on the simple traditional Latino subsistence type culture rapidly taking place in both Costa Rica and Panama, the wholesale investment in agricultural and non agricultural land by foreign owners is obviously detrimental to the simple campesino subsistence culture.

I sincerely feel a great sadness to witness the loss and destruction of this simple, beautiful and inefficient human way of life here in southern Ecuador.

My reply may help you better understand Ecuador and our efforts past and present there.   More importantly this thinking may  help you direct your activity wherever it is in a more abundant and meaningful way.

My reply:  Thanks for sharing this view.  You are correct we are very dedicated to our work and have a purpose driven business. A part of the purpose is to help create employment for the indigenous of Ecuador.

I am not sure the barefooted, short lived indigenous of the 1950s would agree that their inefficient human way of life was simple or beautiful.

This new wave of gringos you mention is pretty small compared to the wave of gringos who arrived in the area now called Ecuador hundreds of years ago.

I doubt that any of the land being sold is being sold by campesinos. This is property owned by inheritors of land passed down from the pure-blooded Spanish descendants who along with the Queen of Spain grabbed the land through force of arms and deceit centuries ago.

I’ll share some photos by a book published by Chicago University press in 1949…  “The Awakening Valley” By John Collier Jr. and Anibal Buitron. This  is subtitled “The photographic record of a social miracle among the Indians of Ecuador”.

1950-ecuador-photos

The Awakening Valley.

1950-ecuador-photos

Master of the scales Otavalo 1949.

Please check the history because the depravity by the Spanish was almost unbelievable and unlike Costa Rica a middle class of farmers did not emerge so the campesinos who remained were terribly poor.

We observed the difference as our daughter lived with a family of Campesinos in Costa Rica as we lived with one in Ecuador.

The terrible exploitation of the “Indios” (this word to the indigenous is uncomplimentary) by the Spanish and the Catholic Church was as bad or even worse than treatment of the indigenous in North America.  The US government simply killed and corralled the indigenous.  The Spanish turned them into slaves.

1950-ecuador-photos

Barefooted… carrying their loads up the mountain to this…

home.

After Simon Bolivar and Jose Sucre booted the Spanish and Ecuador became a democracy, conditions for the indigenous did not improve much.  Eventually the Catholic Church owned half of all the land in Ecuador… most that remained unowned by the Church belonged to the pure blooded Spanish.

Eventually, there was another revolution that brought land reform. This provided some land for Campesinos but it was poor land… which slowly eroded and became unproductive.

Merri’s grandmother was a native American also so we have had strong feelings about this plight from the time we first arrived in Ecuador.

native american image

Photo of Merri’s grandmother and grandfather.

During our second year in Ecuador we lived in an Andean village with the campesino.  Our first project was to reforest the hills so the campesinos could farm again. The Ecuador government many decades ago had cut down all the trees to plant corn.  This had caused drought and erosion and instead of a wonderful forest there were just barren eroded hills above the village.  Plus the village had no water.  The women of the village carried water to their homes… uphill for way over a mile.

We donated over $100,000 for a tractor, water supply and labor to replant thousands of trees.

Today if you are driving south from Quito you’ll view on the right of the Pan Am Highway many miles of barren, brown badly eroded hills. Then suddenly after Latacunga you’ll see a wonderful green forest covering the hills.  This is the result of this forestation project.  We feel very good about that….and are amazed at the 250,000 trees that were planted by the villagers.

primitive.

Since that time we have donated almost a million dollars, far more than our profits from the Ecuador portion of our business, to create jobs and preserve raw land and provide educational opportunity in Ecuador.

The life of the Campesino is indeed being eliminated but not due to the few gringos coming to Ecuador.

First, as mentioned the real gringo damage was done centuries ago.  To us trying to restore the original way of life in Ecuador is equivalent to trying to restore the North American way of life of 500 years ago in the USA.

In the North Carolina Blue Ridge… many mourn the arrival of us “Florididiots” who are changing the way of life up here.  However our neighbor who had dirt floors into the 1970s is not sorry to see the employment we have brought.

In Florida many mourn the arrival of us Snowbirds who are changing the old way of life in Florida.

The head of a great think tank who advises several businesses we work with once explained that the key to building a business is to recognize that mankind looks back at the good old days which were nowhere as good as they now seem.   A most powerful selling force is people’s desire to recover what they never had but perceive they have loss.

One reason Merri and I have focused a lot on Ecuador especially the area around Cotacachi is that the indigenous community has evolved in a way that allows them to hold onto their roots… their customs… their language and dress yet interact productively in the global economic community.  Some of our Cotacachian friends still speak Quichua, still dress in the old ways, still adhere to the customs and religions, diet, but also drive Bill Blass Ford Explorers, have Wi Fi, computers and all the digital stuff paid for with thriving businesses based around their heritage and ancient skills.

I regret that I agree that the era of the Campesino is gone. Just as the era of the small farmer as we knew it in North America is gone.

Our other project in fact is in Appalachia helping to create employment in an area where all the residents were subsistence farmers and are as uprooted by change as the indigenous in Ecuador.

Just as the Golden Oldie era of the Baby Boomer is gone.  (More about the evolution of the Golden Oldie Boomers who have become Groomers in an upcoming message!)

Our permission to advance as we have in Ecuador comes from a yatchak who ran for President on behalf of the indigenous.  Their motto is that the Eagle (North Americans) and the condor (Ecuadorians) must fly in the skies together….and now we believe they have.

The problems the poor face globally are not from gringo migrations.  Gringos bring jobs… better lifestyles and a new economy for the indigenous.  They bring change some positive… some negative… but overall the indigenous are wealthier from it.

The root of the problems you mention… if one can call them that… are medicine, technology, money and sex.

Due to attractions of sex we have a growing population that has to be fed.

Due to medicine these people are living longer.  So there is a growing demand for food.

Due to technology and the way society views it and money, chemicals will be used to enhance yields and improve delivery.  I personally hate this fact… but without great shifts in demographics and the way mankind thinks and interacts, this will be the way humanity will try to feed everyone fairly.

Merri and I farm in a small way.  Part of our family are farmers in a big way so we know the pressures that farmers face.  I do not like chemical technology (we have been one of the largest supporters of the non toxic Bio Wash that reduces the need for fertilizers and pesticides) and helped bring a distributor to Ecuador and are working on introducing this to a greater degree in US farming as well.

But I do not see how the fossil fuel energized global economic system  will diminish for some considerable time.

Due to money and the many things this social interaction does, there will always be inequities.  When haven’t there been?

We hope that our efforts eliminate more than they create… so we try to apply humility… forethought and any wisdom we can garner from the experiences in our our 44 years of living working globally and do the best we can.

I hope these thoughts are helpful and offer a different view of more than change in Ecuador.

One of my great mentors once explained that people tend to look in the past with rose colored glasses and want to return to “good old days” that in reality were not good at all.  The lifestyle of the Ecuadorian campesino was not very good and I can assure you they do not want to return to that.

Change will come.  The yatchak we worked and lived with for so many years mourned to us one time that the children no longer listen to the shamans.  They no longer desire to become apprentices to learn the old ways.  ”Join the club Don Alberto” I told him.  “This is a challenge in every generation… to get the children to listen.”   They often don’t. They listen to the voice of evolution and this is probably good.  If my children tried to apply my experience and skills to their world… I doubt they would succeed.  Heck I still struggle with my iPhone!

If you want to succeed in the here and now and have an abundant future forget the reminiscing.  Focus instead on what will come whether we like it or not.   If we can accurately assess this we might be privileged  to add some slightly intelligent push on the future that will bring us fulfillment and make the world a better place for all.  Regards, Gary

Cooking Up An Opportunity

See how to earn from Ecuador’s best hidden secret…  an Ecuador cooking school in Cotacachi now offers readers a special earning opportunity.

Last year we launched  two new beta programs to help readers earn income globally.

One was our online course “Event Full Business- How to Earn with Seminars and Courses”.    The second program was our more specific Super Spanish teaching course.

I am pleased to say that the Super Spanish teaching program has worked really well.  Teachers are now teaching all over  and have completed courses in Ecuador, Uruguay, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Seattle.  They have courses coming up in Vancouver, Toronto, St. Louis, Washington DC, Sarasota and Spain.

We have learned a lot about how to help others to have an events business and how to get it off the ground.  This is creating the core of the Event Full online course which is filled with real time case studies… not out of date theory.   Staying current is vital today because technology is changing how we do business at a faster pace.

Our self publishing course ten years ago would not have included the internet.

Our business courses five years ago would not have included how to use Facebook.

Our events courses a year ago would not have included how to use Twitter.

We are using all of these technologies in business today and we share what we are doing and testing and learning in business now with our subscribers.

The Event Full course includes case studies from our Super Spanish teachers. Last year they were readers with no experience in the seminar business. These reviews show how they started and are earning now.  One case study shows how one teacher generated $6,737 for a three day course  (this is the best sales a teacher has enjoyed for a three day course so far).

We try to evolve every single day and have now organized a new beta program… an event based business opportunity based around natural health and Ecuador cooking recipes blending pre-Incan nutrition with modern cooking techniques.

You can earn and participate in one of the most special cooking schools in the world.

Actually this is more than a cooking school… “gastronomical education and delight” might be a better phrase because this Ecuador cooking school  is hosted at the luxurious La Mirage Garden Hotel & Spa by La Mirage proprietors, Jorge Espinosa and Michel Duer.

Simply the Best

First, let me describe what I mean by most special… because one of the rules we teach in our business courses is to have unique products and services.

La Mirage is unique and beyond… simply one of the finest hotels in the world.  When you stay at La Mirage or offer a cooking course there you know you are offering the best.  You simply cannot be outdone!

La Mirage’s restaurant was one of the first places where Merri and I discovered on our first trip to Ecuador.   The wonderfully exquisite cooking  is just one reason we fell in love with this country.

There are twenty three luxury rooms at La Mirage and a world class spa, plus plush private gardens.

Whether you are dipping into a jacuzzi or enjoying a cozy eucalyptus fire in one of the many beautifully decorated rooms, you will find fresh roses everywhere. No detail is overlooked.   Guests range from Hollywood stars and US Senators to royalty.  The Queen of Spain chose La Mirage during her stay in Ecuador.

This message looks at new culinary delights  in the La Mirage kitchen that you can now know, enjoy and even turn into an income opportunity.

We recommend that anyone visiting Cotacachi… or anywhere near… go to La Mirage.   Enjoy at least the spa and the great Ecuador cooking there.  The food is incredible.

The chefs are world class, and presentation is at the top of their list.  Appetizers are served in individual wooden music boxes, soup is poured hot into your bowl and each plate is a work of art. Here I am with delegates at La Mirage.

Here is the risotto starter up close.

The homemade, organic rose petal ice-cream dessert is out of this world.  Each tiny ball of rose ice-cream hides in the center of a blossom of sugared rose petals.

Everything at La Mirage is exquisite! It was with keen interest and expectation that Merri and I visited La Mirage to enjoy lunch with the proprietors when they opened their cooking school.

La Mirage installed a teaching kitchen just for these courses in the Garden Room, where we met with Jorge Espinosa, the La Mirage proprietor who created the Cooking Course and the hotel’s …

ecuador-cooking

executive chef and sous chef.

ecuador-cooking

Relais & Chateaux means of course… the best!   This is what we saw… the best, an exquisite meal built in front of us… just as those who join these Cotacachi cooking classes will learn and enjoy.

The menu included these three courses.

GAZPACHO WITH A SHERBET OF CORIANDER

TIMBAL OF QUINOUA TOPPED WITH GINGER OR PARMESAN CHEESE

ASIAN STYLE FRICASSE OF DUCK

Here is the start of the Gazpacho.

ecuador-cooking

Then the chef added…

sherbert and Jorge poured in the gazpacho.

ecuador-cooking

The quinoua began with

tomatoes drizzled with two sauces.

ecuador-cooking

Preparation for the quinoua.

ecuador-cooking

The chef adds grated freshly grated ginger on top.

ecuador-cooking

Wow!

ecuador-cooking

Now we had to do our work which was…

ecuador-cooking

the eating.

ecuador-cooking

After the soup and the quinoa started, our main course was this duck fricasse.

What can I say?  Delicious… words fail the event… a perfect meal.

If you get to Ecuador, you must enjoy this food.  Better still learn how to prepare it  and attend the La Mirage Cooking School.

Even better still learn how to earn extra income from this school by being a La Mirage Cooking Course event planner.

The La Mirage Cooking Course is an opportunity to visit La Mirage Garden Hotel  & Spa and earn.

Courses are limited to ten maximum, and provide insights into the cultivation and production of corn, quinoa, sugar cane, herbs and many other products which the hotel uses daily use in the preparation of food. Venues for lunch and dinner have been carefully chosen to give you the wonderful flavor of different cooking styles and techniques using ingredients from the region. You will enjoy local specialties for which La Mirage is famous along with a range of fine Ecuadorian and South American wines and spirits.

You learn about Ecuadorian cuisine and preparation by actively participating at this hands-on lively 3 hour cooking class during 4-days of your stay.  The chefs share their secret recipes in the preparation of a variety of starters, soups, main courses and desserts.

The classes take place in the kitchen of the Garden Restaurant COLIBRI, under the leadership of the chefs.

In this beta program we can tailor make a cooking course suited for your own business or you can capitalize on three existing La Mirage Cooking Course Plans.

The Queen of Spain stayed at La Mirage so it is not surprising that we call their most luxurious course the Royal Plan (though I hasten to add that this has nothing to do with the Queen of Spain).

The Royal Plan is an extensive course and tour plan that includes a 9 Day/8-Night culinary experience and numerous tours around Ecuador.  The course cost covers:

Hotel accommodations at La Mirage and in Quito (the divine Mansion del Angel)

Return transportation between Quito and Cotacachi as well as daily outings

Four cooking classes including ingredients

Full daily breakfasts, lunch and a three course select A la Carte gourmet dinner at La Mirage

Soft drinks and water during meals and one glass of Ecuadorian wine during class lunch

American breakfast at hotel in Quito

Apron and accessories

Gratuities

Train ride and lunch

Condor park entrance fee and show

22% tax per government regulations

One spa gift certificate

Price per person for the 9-Day / 8-Night culinary Experience:

Double Occupancy: US$ 2,952.00 per person
Single Occupancy: Additional supplement of US$ 1.000.00

This price includes the 22% government tax.

The Premium plan is much shorter and eliminates the tours.  This course just gets down to the brass tacks of this special cooking
and covers three days and two nights at La Mirage in either one or two beds (shared room) and includes:

Return transportation between Quito and Cotacachi

2 American breakfasts per person

2 Three courses select a la carte gourmet dinner per person

2 Three Hour Hands-on cooking classes per person.
Supervised and instructed by a professional team of chefs

Apron and cooking utensils

2 class luncheons with one glass of Ecuadorian wine

22% taxes as per government regulation

A Certificate of participation will be extended at the end of class

Price per person US$ 854.00

The Off Site Plan is least expensive and is for those who have their entire focus on profit.  To reduce costs this plan provides accommodation at  our hotel Inn Land of the Sun in Cotacachi just a couple of blocks from la Mirage.

This plan includes:

2 Three hour Hands-on cooking classes per person supervised and instructed by a professional team of chefs

Apron and cooking utensils will be provided

2 class luncheons served with one glass of Ecuadorian white & red wine

22% taxes as per Government Regulation

A Certificate of participation

Price PER PERSON US$459.00

The cost of the two nights stay at our Hotel Inn land of the Sun is $132.  Double occupancy for one or two and $55 for shared return taxi to Quito.

This is not a business opportunity that will make you rich… but is a way for those who have a passion for fine food and natural health to immerse themselves in the ultimate luxury… and turn that luxury travel and learning into a tax deductible expense as they earn.

What to Do Now

There are our numerous options.  First, if you are in Ecuador… at least go stay at La Mirage so you can see this uniqueness for yourself.

These recipes are created by Jorge Espinosa.

Ecuador-Chef

Jorge Espinosa

Jorge is a proprietor of the La Mirage Garden Hotel & Spa. He was trained as a Chef at the famous Hotel Training School in Bad Reichenhall, Bavaria, Germany before honing his culinary skills cooking at several notable hotels before opening La Mirage in 1986.

At the La Mirage Cooking school Jorge teaches a unique cooking style that blends ancient pre Incan cuisine with his decades of  experience gained while working globally with some of the best chefs in the world.

You can learn more about visiting the hotel or having a meal there by clicking on La Mirage’s website link below.

Or if you love fine cooking and natural health… and plan to visit Ecuador… sign up for one of the plans shown above.

If you feel that this might be a business idea… then you could order our course  Event – Full Business

The latest lesson of this course outlines several ways you can use this cooking course to enhance your lifestyle and earn a bit more.

For example.  If group leaders bring four couples they can attend free including COMPLIMENTARY ROOM, BREAKFAST AND DINNER.

Or group leaders can earn commissions. A group leader would earn about $2,500 for bring a group of four for the Royal Plan.

These plans can also be used as cores to create a stronger earning base by combining the cooking school with other events… such as weight loss, or teaching Spanish… natural health, shamanic or whatever you might decide to create.

These courses can also act as one part of a broader business base that includes publications and or/sales of cooking or Ecuador products.  The potential for combining these courses with other products are almost limitless.

This is all explained in the latest lesson of our course Event – Full Business.

Learn about this online course below.

Earn With a Seminar & Tours Business

Learn how to earn extra income from a seminar, tour, exhibition or events business.

GARY-SCOTT-SEMINAR-IMAGES

Delegates at a recent writer’s camp… one of the events we conduct at our North Carolina seminar center.

Many readers of this site crave freedom… and perhaps adventure.  At least they desire the ability to get out of the rat race.   They want  to travel… spend time… live… laugh or love in more than just one place… and they want the places to be ones they choose.

How can one live such a lifestyle… where a suitcase is a necessary and vital friend?

There are few people more capable of answering this question than… Merri and me.

For 44 years (from May 1968) we have been paid to travel and live exactly where we have wanted to be… because we have had an events business conducting seminars, courses and tours.

Our seminar/conference/ events business has allowed us to visit and to live almost anywhere we have chosen… or not.

Sometimes we have incredible adventures.

gary-merri-scott-llanganatis

Here I am with Merri and an Ecuadorian Yatchak deep in the Llanganatis jungle creating a shamanic tour.

However when we want to stay at home we can also do so.  One does not have to travel to have an events business.

gary-scott-semainsr

Here I am (in brown shirt) speaking to a delegate that we conducted at our Florida home.

We even built a…

little-horse-creek

seminar hall on Little Horse Creek so we can stay in the mountains when we desire… and still conduct events.

Here is one of the small groups at a retreat we conducted in the seminar hall.

gary-scott

Most owners of an events business do not do this much, however!  Lesson Two of a new course we have created called “Event – Full Business” shows how to start small and gradually build a larger events business (if that is your desire) as we have done.

We have conducted events as small as two delegates and some with over 400 so…

ecuador-exports

we know the events business inside and out… large and small. Here Merri and I are speaking to over 400 + people in Quito, Ecuador.

There are innumerable fringe benefits to an events business. For example almost all of our global travel has been tax deductible for all these years.

The pay has certainly not been bad either.  As you’ll see below, one time we earned  $142,260 in three days.  In another instance we earned over $135,000 in two days.  Once our earnings exceeded $200,000 in just three days.

Yet the income has been a small part of this adventure. The expanded horizons… the people we have met… the adventures we have shared… the tens of thousands of delegates we have enjoyed and hopefully helped…. the poor we have served… the freedom we have felt… to be able to go where we desire and come home, when we desire, with more than when we left.

These facts have dramatically enriched our lives….and we hope others.

Now we would like to help improve your lifestyle as well… if… earning with a seminar, tour events business appeals to you.

We have conducted seminars or events or spoken at them in… (alphabetical order)  Australia, Bahamas, Belgium, Belize, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, England, Ecuador, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary (before the Iron Curtain came down), Indonesia, Isle of Man, Jamaica, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands,  Panama, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Scotland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand and at one time or another most of the United States and more.

There is a possibility that  Merri and I know more about conducting events than 99.9% of the people in the world and because so many have asked… we have finally decided to provide an online correspondence course on how to create your own seminar, tour or events business.

We call this brand new emailed correspondence course:  ”Event – Full Business”.

We have completed 17 lessons and to give you a better idea about “Event – Full Business”. The Introduction Lesson is below.

I am ready to send you the Intro and Lesson #1 of “Event – Full Business” and am ready to accept your enrollment of students in our beta program.

See how to benefit from this first stage in our course development after you have studied this introduction.

“Event- Full Business” – How to Profit Conducting Seminars, Workshops & Tours

Sometime about 24 years ago…. around 1987:

naigara-falls

Photo from www.thetoptensite.com/Niagara_Falls.html

A white water symphony… harmonized in crushed octaves.  A melody amplified by nature’s power and white water sound conducted in the fresh air amphitheater that is Niagara Falls.

Merri and I walked arm and arm along the Canadian side of the falls…overwhelmed by its strength and its spectacular beauty.  We had driven from our home in North Carolina to conduct an International Investing and Business Conference… one of the largest of our own seminars that we had ever conducted…380 people.

We arrived a day early… took a suite with a large red garden tub… soaked after the long journey and then enjoyed the wonder of this natural phenomenon…Niagara Falls.

This was the day to enjoy because the next three we would be busy, very busy… with stress-of course. Marketing had shot past our expectations and this was a large crowd. We would work hard yet we would also earn approximately $142,260 for three days work. Actually more. You’ll see why below.

We have earned in many ways since then… until now… 24 + years later.

This morning a reader enrolled in our 2011 International Club allowing him to attend all the seminars we’ll conduct for the next year.

He wrote: “Hi Merri. I am looking forward to meeting you both again. Had met in Niagara in the 1980s. Thanks.”

Obviously, something we did for this client 25 years ago brought this extra business to us now.

This fact stimulated me to get on with this course which I have been outlining for some time. A seminar, conference, tour business not only creates unusual profit opportunity now… but when a seminar business is properly run, it can create income for a lifetime!

This course shows how Merri I and have created riches and a lifestyle beyond our wildest imagination and shares steps you can take to create a profitable and fun business conducting seminars, workshops conferences and tours wherever and whenever you like.  (Or perhaps you want to conduct seminars online or live or with a video sent through the internet.)

When it comes to conducting seminars, courses and tours, there are few people with more experience than Merri and me. Over 43 years we have organized, marketed and conducted thousands of tours for tens of thousands of people in dozens and dozens of countries (even behind the Iron Curtain).

This course shares how we have done this… what we did right… what we did wrong… how you can get started and what you can do much better than we have.

Here are the initial lessons in an outlined that I am writing.

#1: How to earn millions from seminars, courses and tours. See how we have earned as much as $200,000 for three days’ work. (Once $135,000 in two days.)

#2: How to build a seminar business. See the one day Washington-Atlanta-San Francisco system that helped our courses evolve and how to use this approach to help your teaching grow.

#3: When and when not to use other speakers. Seminars for speakers… a way to get it all out as your bank accounts gets it all in.

#4: How to use other speakers. Gain the key to the room and the people within. Why the golden pen is mightier than a glib tongue, the sword and the overloaded brain.

#5: Dealing with hotels/locations. Why the marketing does not talk to catering who will not communicate with accounting and the mess this could mean for you. How to choose… arrange and survive the hotel. Forget the $11,314 coffee bill… for swill.

#6: Scheduling seminars. Magic dates and times for marketing… how far in advance to market and seminar death dates to avoid.

#7: Creating a back end business. How Merri made $12,936 dollars at a seminar in 37 minutes by just standing still.

#8: Three types of courses… delegate driven… speaker driven… third party driven.

#9: The importance of strategic partnerships for added wealth.

#10: How to market seminars, courses & tours.

#11: List building.

#12: Alternative seminar and course location options.

#13: The benefits of both big seminars and small courses.

#14: How to survive the dreaded problems: What to do when enrollments are low. Handling the heckler, the takeover and the cell phone. When the hotel fails. Surviving speaker no shows and all of those types of things!

#15: How to enhance your other businesses with seminars.

We welcome you to “Event – Full Business”.

We’ll be doing all we can to help you create your riches and a lifestyle beyond your wildest dreams with an events business so your life and income can be filled by events and event full!

The first lesson will look at seminars, workshops conferences, exhibitions, tours, various events, how they differ and their strengths and weaknesses so you can begin to zero in on what would be best for you.

This is the introduction.  We invite you to become a subscriber to this new online correspondence course, “Event – Full Business”.

We’ll send you the first lessons immediately and each lesson as it is completed.  Plus we’ll ask for your input.

Never Ending Story – Save Next Year

The world is changing at an ever faster pace, so no course on business remains current for long.  Our events business evolves every year.  Consequently our courses never end… they evolve with our business.

Throughout the year we update, rewrite and expand our courses… adding new tips and share real time what we have learned and what we are still learning.  We show the changes we are making… how and why… in our business through the year.

This continual update is like an Alumni Club. Imagine attending Harvard. After graduation you stay in touch with your fellow students. You share. You help one another. You network and stay up to date. Our online business courses work in the same way so we… all our subscribers… and you,  help the courses evolve and keep pace with new ideas, new technology, innovation and changes in the market place.

So you gain more than just savings as a beta subscriber.  The extra added benefit is that you help direct the creation of the course and make it more useful from the very beginning.

Then year after year… as long as you like… you stay in touch with us, our webmaster and with the other subscribers from around the world though a special password protected site.

The first 17 lessons above are set and will be sent regularly. Your questions, comments, actions, successes and failures will help expand and direct this course over the next year.

The company broke ground in March 2011 for an assisted/retiree living complex of 70 condominium homes with a gym, swimming pool, doctor’s office and nursing station, organic restaurant, micro market, meeting room and a small chapel.

All condominiums will have a full-size kitchen, complete with fridge and cookers, in the rear of the property, with the living rooms all facing inwards towards the landscaped gardens with amazing views of the mountain range in the distance. From the living room there will be a door leading to the balconies with provision for floral displays on top of the safety walls.

The homes are all designed so that entry to each will be through the rear or the “working areas” (kitchen, etc.) leaving the living room areas and the main bedrooms all overlooking the wonderful gardens. All condominiums will be equipped with an emergency alarm system linked to a 24 hour monitored system. Pre-installed points for TV, Internet and phone jacks will be fitted in all condominiums as well as tiled floors and all walls will be painted a neutral color suitable for any type of furniture.

This group offers Ecuador Living subscribers a 2% discount off the quoted purchase price of their properties.
