Thanksgiving on The Equator

An Ecuadorian time of thanksgiving has a timely message now.

We have also have had the opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving in many countries, from Ecuador to England to Hong Kong. We especially enjoy this day because no one outside the US recognizes Thanksgiving Day in November as an official holiday.  This gives us an opportunity to share a beautiful American tradition with other cultures.

Our family is so wide spread…five kids: in Oregon, Florida, London and Bristol, England, can rarely all unite for Thanksgiving.  Since everyone globally likes feasts, we find it easy and delightful to create a larger family.

We often use the day to invite friends, wherever we are, to share our turkey, dressing, cranberries and pumpkin pie (though there have been challenges finding the ingredients at times – one year in Gloucestershire, we had to settle for making a yam pie as there were no pumpkins!)  Many from other nations have left our Thanksgiving table knowing the true heart of America better after sharing this traditional meal with us.

This is a wonderful…simple way to enjoy friends and expand goodwill worldwide for which we are truly thankful.

Ecuador does not celebrate Thanksgiving but while living on the Equator, Merri and I learned a great lesson about the importance of having a thankful attitude.

This was the year 2000.  Merri and I were spending an entire winter at our Ecuadorian plantation with a shaman and his apprentices.

The shaman and his apprentices stayed in the plantation house. We lived in this crumbling 10’x 10′ hut, no electricity, no phone and no hot water…for months just so we could have privacy and to be more or less in nature.

Ecuador-Thanksgiving

Our goal was to understand how the lifestyle of the indigenous equator  and how the residents really lived, thought and felt.  We did not expect how much we would learn.

Though the apprentices had no material wealth and earned about $30 a month, the joy and happiness during that time with those people was infectious, laughter always just waiting to bubble over at any event.

Then one day around thanksgiving the Ecuador’s economy literally came to a shrieking halt.  Almost everything shot down.

The country ran out of gas.  The banks were closed.  The shaman and the apprentices lost every penny they had in the banks.  Upon learning this, the shaman called for a mingo (this word means circle and represents a meeting) where he performed a ceremony of thanks for all the change that these losses would bring.

Later after the meeting we sat on the front porch and looked out, over this view.

Ecuador-Thanksgiving

We watched the setting sun, dropping in a burst of purple and mauve. The wind was warm and a symphony of insects gave a serenade. This now penniless shaman looked over and whispered. “Life is good”.

Changes in his financial life did not rob him of a penny’s worth of living.  He felt what others considered a loss with gratitude.

I can’t put in words what a sense of peace and harmony rolled over us as we looked down at the lushness of the valley below, the mists rising, the waterfalls folding in lacy cascades, bird songs trilling through the clear air.  The river although far below us was a great bubbling sound along with the strangeness of some of the bird calls. This was a joy we had not felt since we were kids.

As Merri and I enjoy this day of thanks, we feel that our thankfulness is heightened due to our sharing Thanksgiving with other cultures that have helped us learn to be thankful, about everything…even though they may seem negative at the time.

We cannot thank you enough!  We look forward with great joy to sharing more ideas in the year ahead with you. If we can in some way make your life more joyous and help you laugh, learn and be grateful, we will truly be blessed. There is such beauty on this earth and in this world at this time. We feel privileged to be able to share it with you.

Be More Intelligent With Super Thinking Routines

Here is a way to increase intelligence and reduce fear.

Two points almost everyone agrees on about the future are… first we need to be smarter to keep up with the faster pace of change… and second the world’s economy has and will continue to globalize.

Be smarter as the world turns faster.  Super Thinking tactics in our courses help create new income opportunity and also can improve health.

A Wall Street Journal article entitled “Ways to Inflate Your IQ” says: Many people think of IQ as a genetic trait, like brown eyes or short legs: You’re born with it and you’re stuck with it. Now, a growing body of research is showing that a person’s IQ can rise—and even fall—over the years.

Scores can change gradually or quickly, after as little as a few weeks of cognitive training, research shows.

In the latest study, 33 British students were given IQ tests and brain scans at ages 12 to 16 and again about four years later by researchers at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at University College London; 9% of the students showed a significant change of 15 points or more in IQ scores.

On a scale where 90 to 110 is considered average, one student’s IQ rose 21 points to 128 from 107, lifting the student from the 68th percentile to the 97th compared with others the same age, says Cathy Price, professor of cognitive neuroscience at the center and co-author of the study, published last month in Nature.

Swings in individual IQ scores are often written off as the product of measurement error or a test subject having a bad day. But MRIs in this study showed changes in gray matter in areas corresponding to fluctuations in the kids’ skills, Dr. Price says.

There are practical steps people can take to see longer-term IQ changes. A 30-year study at the National Institute of Mental Health found that people whose work involves complex relationships, setting up elaborate systems or dealing with people or difficult problems, tend to perform better over time on cognitive tests. Test scores of people whose jobs are simple and require little thought actually tend to decline, according to the research, published in 1999 in Psychology and Aging.

New tasks stimulate the brain most. When researchers at the University of Hamburg subjected 20 young adults to one month of intense training in juggling, they found an increase in the corresponding gray matter in the brain as early as seven days after the training began.

Fluctuations in IQ scores over time underscore the brain-boosting benefits of a complex job, musical training, advanced schooling and new experiences throughout a lifetime.

Music lessons are linked to higher IQ throughout life, according to research by E. Glenn Schellenberg, a psychology professor at the University of Toronto at Mississauga. Six years’ lessons lifted children’s IQ scores an average 7.5 points.

Super Thinking Tactics improve the brain through the use of music.  The Super Thinking Story.

The educational program Merri and I have developed uses a form of brain wave integration that opens enormous opportunity for expansion, understanding, peacefulness as well as greater wealth. We are sharing this in depth program that teaches Super Thinking.

Super Thinking uses frequency (in music and a number of other ways) to integrate brain waves so the process of absorbing, processing and recalling information is vastly accelerated. This brings forth the three C’s: Calm, Clarity and Coherence.

How the Super Learning History Brings Opportunity to You Now:

Our Super Thinking programs are not gimmicks or tricks… just advanced education.

Merri and I are explorers. Our business began 46 years ago (May 1968) and we continue to always look for what’s next… trying to stay on or ahead of the leading edge.

This process helped us create the totally unique system we use that incorporates numerous tactics.

The first tactic is to use Baroque music in the learning process. At least three best selling books, “Superlearning”, the “Mozart Effect” and “Superlearning 2000″ have revealed insights about how to learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian educational master, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.

This one tactic alone is so powerful that Small Business Innovation Research… an official site of the US government granted over $100,000 for the specific purpose they said was: to provide a method to remove barriers which hinder or prevent the employment of blind persons. An innovative method call the Lozanov learning system is proposed to help train blind persons to become computer programers and operators of automated equipment.

Merri was among just a few who learned directly from Dr. Lozanov the one time he visited the USA and is licensed in these techniques.

Merri has enhanced this system with numerous other tactics. One is to make slight alterations in nutrition. Altered nutrition can make anyone a person 25% smarter. These two tactics are just part of seven, easy to use learning techniques that help gain any skill, from computers to athletics to conversational languages… in much less time than traditional learning techniques… often two-to-five times faster, in exciting and innovative ways…but most of all it is a system that is stress free and full of fun.

Our Super Learning System helps in innumerable walks of life. This is why the second year of our teaching program offers extra opportunity for you now.

Problems Can Create Opportunity

There is a huge and growing problem of accelerating change that requires accelerated learning. You can use a Super Thinking focus in every aspect of your life including your business… shifting our mental process into overdrive.

Super Thinking works by focusing on the learner first… the data second. This system “grows the learner” rather than just expands the information. The explosion of data we must all process every day means there is too much information to process already. Let’s view this learning in terms of plumbing to outline what “Growing the Learner” means.

If you have 4.5 inches of information flowing through a 4 inch learning pipe, the solution is not to add another inch of information. The answer is to first create a six inch pipe and then an even larger pipe…a never ending expansion of abilities!

Share our 50 years of Experience

When it comes to having a micro business in online publishing, seminars, courses and tours, there are few people with more experience than Merri and me.  Over 49 years we have organized, marketed and conducted thousands of tours for tens of thousands in dozens and dozens of countries (even behind the Iron Curtain).  This course shares how we have done this… what we did right… what we did wrong… and what you can do better.

Super Thinking Goes Way Beyond Spanish

Our training teaches an effective way to teach languages but covers much more many… perhaps all fields of education.

For example. We teach Super Thinking Business seminars that show how these mind expanding tactics can be applied to starting and running a business, to forex trading and investing. Athletes of all types… golfing being one common sport benefit. The Soviet Union… even though a third world country… excelled in the Olympics… as well as beating the USA into outer space… because it integrated FM teaching tactics as developed by Dr. Georgi Lozanov (one of Merri’s teachers) into its educational system.

Our Super Thinking plan goes far beyond Lozanov and allows you to enhance every part of your life.

This course really works!

An M.D. who attended wrote:   We want to thank you plus all the others for making the class such a fun and rewarding experience.   I took Spanish as an undergraduate and lasted two days before dropping the class due to my own anxieties.  Over the years I have tried to learn French, Italian, and Spanish yet again using a variety of methods such as Rosetta Stone, Berlitz etc. and was never successful.  I finally feel like I can be successful at learning to converse at Spanish–in fact already feel successful!  Thanks so much for teaching an old dog some new tricks.  We’re both looking forward to continuing the learning process, having fun doing so, and taking more classes.

Unlock the power of your untapped knowledge.

Super Thinking + Spanish course goes beyond just learning to speak Spanish.

There are numerous little known, but scientifically proven ways to enhance the speed, accuracy and efficiency of your decision making process for greater wealth, health and happiness. In just three days you can gain almost amazing learning skills.  Plus you become skilled in Spanish as a bonus.

In just three days?  Sound too good to be true?

This is not a gimmick nor a trick. At least three best selling books, Superlearning, the Mozart Effect and Superlearning 2000 have revealed insights about how we can learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.  In 1980 Superlearning sold over two million copies and showed how the Lozanov learning system blended long-tested sciences of yoga with contemporary physiology and psychology so people could learn faster and better.

The 3 Day Spanish system includes some of Dr. Lozanov’s original work that uses music to integrate brain waves so the process of absorbing, processing and recalling information is vastly accelerated.  The course integrates the use of music with 17 lessons that teach you over 4,000 Spanish words.

Fluency in a language is considered to come when you know 1,200 words.  To prove that it is possible to gain this and much more, let me share just one of the 17 lessons.

Here are the thousands of Spanish words lesson #1:  All words in Spanish and English that end in ION are almost identical,  just pronounced differently. For example action is accion, education educacion, manipulation, manipulacion, etc.

Now you already literally know hundreds of Spanish nouns.  This is just one of seventeen Spanish lessons you gain. The next lesson teaches you how to pronounce each of these nouns. Then you learn in a third lesson almost as many verbs, almost as quickly.

You also learn how to avoid conjugating verbs by sticking with the infinitive (far easier than it sounds). This simple lesson leaves you sounding like a Spanish professor.

There are many other lessons. For example lesson five shows how to sound infinitely polite and yet get almost anything you want in Spanish. Lesson six gives you the valuable connectors and the seventh lesson triples your Spanish capacity with yesterday, now and tomorrow.

By the end of the three day course you will feel quite comfortable speaking Spanish without stress!

A delegate who learned Super Spanish outlined how this course can help you.   After three days, I can speak Spanish in complete sentences. In simple conversations, such as buying groceries or ordering a meal, I can make myself understood. I think that’s incredible!  Although I am far from the competence level of a native speaker, I feel I’ve taken a giant step forward in learning Spanish so that I can experience the people and culture of Ecuador.  The foregoing benefits would have more than justified the time and money I invested in Super Thinking Super Spanish. And learning Spanish was not the most important benefit I got from the course.  In recent years, I’ve rarely relaxed (No wonder I have had high blood pressure!) .   In class, the past three days, I’ve been introduced to the calming effects of Baroque music.  What a blessing! I’m inclined to make this a daily part of my life.   Rob Christi

The Super Spanish helps you start speaking and understanding Spanish right away.  This can help you speak Spanish faster and make your traditional Spanish course easier and more effective.

A Livescience.com article helps explain why this course works and how delegates are creating Spanish sentences by the first lunch break and can communicate well in Spanish after just three days.   This article by Jeremy Hsu, LiveScience Senior Writer, is entitled “CIA Seeks Anyone, Anyone Who Can Speak 2 Languages”.

Four important points in the article are shown in excerpts below with my comments to show what has been wrong with traditional Spanish courses and why the Super Thinking tactic is perfect for this program.

This three day course gets you speaking and thinking Spanish all the time so you can use and/or think Spanish every day… and communicating even from the beginning.  In this way the education grows even when Spanish is not being spoken.

The Super Thinking course first integrates the brain.  Students learn better with relaxed concentration. Then the course teaches them 17 simple lessons so they know 4005 words in Spanish and can use them to create sentences. In this way, you can communicate in just three days.

Travel, accommodations and food are not included.

Gary

Here are what delegates wrote about a Super Thinking + Spanish seminar.

“Hi Gary & Merri, You two are the BEST!!! Your Seminar was fantastic! I am so excited. I had procrastinated fulfilling my continuing education for my Broker’s License and then just before my surgeries, I realized by expiration date isn’t Nov. 12th – it is Sept 12th. Well, as you can see prior to taking your course I had only completed 3 units of the required 45 units. I thought I would take your course and then complete my remaining 42 units over the next 2 weeks. However, I took one class exam on Saturday night, August 27th. I didn’t even take the cellophane off the required Course manuals until after I saw the two of you today less than 5 hours ago! I used your techniques and completed 39 units of continuing education today. I have now completed all 45 units. All of my test scores were in the 90.6-96% range. My course exam information is listed below. I just wanted to let you know how valuable your course was to me. Thanks again!” Suzy Kurinsky

Another wrote:  Thanks for the Spanish course.  This technique is truly a breakthrough in learning.  I believe I learned more Spanish in four days than I learned in four weeks in a previously attended Costa Rica language school.  The Costa Rica school taught a very limited number of memorized words and phrases. Ted.

Another delegate at a Super thinking plus Spanish seminar wrote:  The Super Thinking approach exposed us to a broad variety of works and the technique needed to expand the language.  Again, Thanks for the experience.

One attendee wrote: I just wanted to say thank you so much for everything during the seminar. You guys are indeed a shining example of having a business that truly serves others. And thanks for the extra time spent and good things taught to me personally. I have begun to implement them already and will continue to apply them. And you might be interested that waiting for my flight home I ended up sitting next to a woman from Quito and could understand some of what she said in a cell phone conversation. We talked a little and she said that I should visit Ecuador!  Thank you again for your real graciousness and acceptance! I will also write to Merri and thank her as well. And I wish that I could do something for you two!

Another wrote: Thank you!  We  always look forward to spending time and learning about so many fascinating things. Like Minded people and Vivaldi! What could be better?

Another sent this note: Thank you for the wonderful workshop on Super Learning + Spanish!  I really enjoyed the workshop.

Since I returned home, I have purchased some of the CDs of Baroque music and thought about which specific pieces will work best in different parts of my classes.  I am also reading Perfect Health by Deepak Chopra.  I found your discussion of this book to be very helpful in showing how to balance one’s life.  I have adjusted my daily schedule, and I can already notice a difference in my productivity.

Thank you for sending the file of the 4005 Spanish words.  This will be very helpful in my daily review of Spanish.

Another emailed this: Every day I’m becoming more proficient in Spanish.  As I get ready to do something, I think about how I would say it in Spanish.  Thank you again for a Super Workshop!  With love and blessings,

Another: It certainly was an interesting and intriguing four days for me.  I enjoyed the Spanish but even more so, all the tentacles that extended during those four days that went into so many different directions.

I grew up in a very SQUARE box with loving  and intelligent parents but my world remained within this box, unable to see beyond those walls, as I was never encouraged to “think outside the box”..  Mike has been opening doors and leading me outside this box but because of my upbringing I have not completely embraced or understood what was beyond those doors he opened for me.  As I have gotten older I have become more open to the world outside those doors yet those old tapes continue to play and I have not been able to completely release myself and experience all that can be.

Another shared this: Listening to the two of you during our time together has suddenly got me to thinking, and although some of the ideas still seem foreign to me,  I am at a point in my life now where I can say, “anything is possible” and I am now willing to embrace and allow myself to experience the world of possibility and let it take me in directions I may have in the past resisted.  I really don’t know where all this is going to lead me but I am now willing to explore, develop and grow.

I found all the information you offered on healing, realigning the body, nutrition, etc. so fascinating, have you ever thought about doing a course on just that?  With the aging population and the health care issues I think it would be not only an interesting course but one that would be very beneficial to so many.  I, personally, would love to learn more about what you talked about and plan on purchasing the book, “Body Renewal, the Lost Art of Self Healing” for my Kindle.

Thank you again for a wonderful four days!!

Another:  We had fun at Disney World on Monday and sat beside several Personnes Espaniol.  We could understand them however I couldn’t make sentences quickly, but could say one or two word phrases that were understood.  We arrived home at 3am yesterday – the airlines were very late in Denver due to a crew incident.

I found myself making up sentences all day yesterday as I was running errands.  John knows more vocabulary than I at this point as he has studied Spanish previously.  Today I will begin to review the lessons and construct sentences to send to you and the group – as you suggested below.  Es en BUENO sugestion!!!  I also received the email Merri sent with the 4005 words and started to scroll through those yesterday.

Another: Thank YOU for everything you have done to create and bring this wonderful experience to all of us.  It takes a well sychronized team of people to put on an effective, change producing seminar!  I have given many seminars and enjoyed the experience immensely.  The outcome is even better!  Estoy une infantil de Super Thinking and Spanish, y es possible aprender en tiempo.

John and I both thank all of you for the wonderful experience – we are working now to clear up things so we can leave for the Galapagos and Ecuador November 25th – December 20th.  Nosotros tiene muchos appreciacion!  Gracias y Abrazos,

Another:
Muchas gracias para la informacion!  I had a wonderful time at the Super Learning + Spanish weekend!… excelente!

I was impressed with your depth of knowledge on numerous subjects and your ability to speak about them with exceptional recall.  Con mucho apriciar,  P.S. Yo estoy enteresado en Espanol #2.

One delegate even explained how after our course they ended up as the accidental translator: Gary,  I have sent a couple of messages, and  a story of Mike being able to translate yesterday for a Spanish person  who couldn’t understand what a man was trying to tell him!

We loved the seminar, and are excited to put the super learning to practice, and especially the great company of like-minded people (especially G & M!)  Muchas Gracias!  Tiene an excellante dias.

One delegate communicated entirely in Spanish…. after just our Super Thinking + Spanish seminar: Buenas dias nuestra maestra perfectamente, Merri!   Muchas gracias por la lista espanol.

Claro, David y yo aprendemous mucho espanol el fine de semana pasada. Gary y usted nos hacen espanol muy facil aprender. Es importante continuar a practicar espanol cada dia. Gracias tambien!  Buenas suerte…hasta la vista! Con mucho amor,

Comments from another delegate: I wanted you to know that the Spanish course has proven incredibly helpful. Dealing with internet service providers and shopping for appliances, etc., normally would have required me hiring a translator to follow me around. While it may not be pretty or 100% grammatically correct, I am understood. Thank you!  Saludos!

Another a dentist said: I was so delighted with my experience at the Spanish training.  I felt more confident of ability to pronounce Spanish than I ever was of French or German.  Funny… I did not think I remembered any French or German but when I cannot remember the Spanish words the German and French popped up.  Practicing my pronunciation made my trip home go faster. I never enjoyed pronouncing either of the other two, but this was fun. It is hard to fall asleep at the wheel when you are moving your mouth to speak Spanish. It does work your mouth in a different way.  I realized that you have to say each syllable slowly and correctly(until you get it perfectly) and when you do it is impressive.

It was amazing to see us all writing such advanced sentences after a few days and so much more enjoyable than having to go through the alphabet to build the words to build the sentences.

The ultimate asset is the ability to have a global business. Here are two fishy export ideas…

that delegates will see on our upcoming Ecuador export tour.  Carved wooden fish and…

ecuador seafood

Ecuador seafood. For example Ecuador is one of the largest seafood exporters in the world.

One powerful way to gain this freedom is to know how to earn anywhere in the world. This is why we have asked  Roberto to conduct his Import/Export courses.

Here is what one delegate wrote after attending the Ecuador export tour:

Gary, The coffee I brought home, Rio Intag, is really good. I took the suggestion to use a French press and it is SO good. I inquired at some local coffee shops and they are interested in getting some samples; however, they roast their own beans, so I would need to bring back ‘green beans’. Would that be possible and does this idea have any merit for Import/Export? I noted that the Café Tostado En Grano that I brought home is ‘100% Arabica and is shade grown under native trees’. If it is Organic to boot and perhaps ‘fair trade’, I think I could do a pretty good business with it. Thanks.”

Another Ecuador export tour delegate wrote:

Just wanted to say thanks for a wonderful 12 days. Lisa and I had a great time.  Lisa’s mother got her flowers today and she says they are spectacular.

I have asked the flower supplier about importing them here to Atlanta for central distribution.  We are also investigating importing the wooden mini blinds we saw in one of the houses for sale in Cotacachi.  Thanks again for a great experience. Cheers,

One reason these courses are helping so many delegates earn income is Roberto’s experience in getting Ecuador products and selling them in the US.

Improve Safety – Increase Profits

Start this weekend.  Learn how to improve the safety and profit of your savings and investments by selecting diversified, good value investments in a multi-currency portfolio during stock market downturns.  Few decisions are as important to our wealth as the value of the markets and currencies we invest in.

Double Risk

Many investors missing the great long term risk, the falling US dollar.  The greenback has been strong for the past five years, but this is temporary.   The dollar’s strength came after the great recession of 2009 just as there was a temporary dollar strength after the great recession of the 1980s.  In the 1980’s that dollar strength lasted five years.  Then the dollar collapsed over 50% versus major currencies.  Now the greenback is in a similar place.

The strong US dollar and low interest rates created  a bigger than normal stock breakout, but the US market has been in an overall bear trend since 2000.  Now both, the market and the greenback are scheduled to fall.

This year I celebrate my 51st anniversary in the investing business and 49th year of writing about global investing.  Our reports and seminars have helped readers have better lives, with less stress yet make fortunes during up and down markets for decades.  This information is invaluable to investors large and small because even small amounts can easily be invested in the good value shares we cover in our seminar.

Stock and currency markets are cyclical.  These cycles create extra profit for value investors who invest when everyone else has the markets wrong.  One special seminar session looks at how to spot value from cycles.  Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics.  Cycles create recurring profits.  Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 to 20 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns can create war.

Here is the war stock cycle.  Military struggles (like the Civil War, WWI, WWII and the Cold War: WWIII) super charge inventiveness that creates new forms of productivity…the steam engine, the internal combustion engine,  production line processes, jet engines, TV, farming techniques, plastics, telephone, computer and lastly during the Cold War, the internet.  The military technology shifts to domestic use.  A boom is created that leads to excess.  Excess leads to correction. Correction creates an economic downturn and again to war.

Details in the online seminar include:

* How to easily buy global currencies, shares and bonds.

* Trading down and the benefits of investing in real estate in Small Town USA.  We will share why this breakout value is special and why we have been recommending good value real estate in this area since 2009.

* What’s up with gold and silver?  One session looks at my current position on gold and silver and asset protection.  We review the state of the precious metal markets and potential problems ahead for US dollars.  Learn how low interest rates eliminate  opportunity costs of diversification in precious metals and foreign currencies.

* How to improve safety and increase profit with leverage and staying power.  The seminar reveals Warren Buffett’s value investing strategy from research published at Yale University’s website.  This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios). His big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of out performance to 70%.  However those who can hold the portfolio for five years gain a 88% probability of beating the bellwether in the market and after ten years the probability increases to 97.5%.

Time is your friend when you use a good value strategy.  The longer you can hold onto a well balanced good value portfolio, the better the odds of outstanding success.

Learn how much leverage to use.  Leverage is like medicine, the key is dose.  The best ratio is normally 1.6 to 1.  We’ll sum up the strategy; how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on the times and each individual’s circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

Enjoy investing more with slow, worry free, good value investing.  Stress, worry and fear are three of an investor’s worst enemies.  These are major foundations of the Behavior Gap, a trait exhibited by most investors, that causes them to under perform any market they choose.  The behavior gap is created by natural human responses to fear.  The losses created by this gap grow when investors trade short term, under stress.

Learn how to put meaning into your investing by creating profitable strategies that combine good value investments with unique, personal goals.

Learn what I am doing with my good value portfolio.  My personal investment portfolio comes from a continual analysis of international stock markets and a comparison of their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.

We’ll update the good  value markets for the beginning of 2017 next week, but the markets included in this 2016 portfolio are:

Norway
Australia
Hong Kong
Germany
Japan
Singapore
United Kingdom
Taiwan
South Korea
China

These markets have been chosen based on four pillars of valuation.

• Absolute Valuation
• Relative Valuation
• Current versus Historic Valuation
• Current Relative versus Relative Historic Valuation

The online seminar also reveals how to use Country ETFs to easily construct a diversified, risk-controlled, equally weighted representative country portfolios in all of these good value countries.

To achieve this goal my portfolio consists of Country Index ETFs that track an index of shares in a specific country.  These country ETFs provide diversification into a basket of equities in the good value countries.  The expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund as well so such ETFs provide diversification and cost efficiency.

This is an easy, simple and effective approach to zeroing in on value because little management and guesswork is required.

The seminar also discloses the results of a $80,000 share purchase cost test that found the least expensive way to invest in good value.  The keys to this portfolio are good value, low cost, minimal fuss and bother.  Plus a great savings of time.  Trading is minimal, usually not more than one or two shares are bought or sold in a year.  I wanted to find the very least expensive way to create and hold this portfolio so I performed a test.

The Test for Low Cost Trading

Research put every part of this portfolio in place, except knowing the best, easiest and least expensive way to buy.  A search for an optimal way to buy and hold boiled down to two methods.  One tactic to test was to use a unique online broker that appeared to offer the lowest cost deal.  The other approach was to use a community bank in Smalltown USA.  The small town bank that I use looks after my 401K trust account and the service is first class.  The benefit of small banks is that they still treat us as a human beings (instead of a number) and when we need, it’s easy to go right to the top to answer a question or get a problem resolved.  There are no call centers and the bank and the person looking after my account is just around the corner.

I created a test to see which offered the least expensive service.

Working with my banker in Smalltown USA,  I created two accounts, one at the online broker and the other at the bank. I placed $40,000 in each.

I set up the order for the country ETFs online, while my trust manager set up orders for the identical amounts of the same shares in his system.  Then we got on the phone, coordinated our timing and on a count of three each pushed the button “BUY”.

I share the results of this test in the seminar.  The savings that can be gained on any purchase of country ETFs has the potential to be more than the cost of the seminar.

gary-scott-seminar

I have good news about the cost of the seminar as well.   For almost three decades the seminar fee has been $799 for one or $999 for a couple. Tens of thousands paid this price.

In this special offer, you can get this online seminar FREE when you subscribe to our Personal investing Course.

The Purposeful investing Course (Pi) teaches exactly what to do in situations such as we are seeing in global stock markets now.   This course is based on my 50 years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

Enjoy Repeated Wealth

Pi’s mission is to make it easy for anyone to have a strategy and tactics that turn market turmoil into extra profit.

Pi reveals investing secrets and the sciences that make investing easy, safer, less time consuming and increases the chances of profit.

One secret is to invest with a purpose beyond the cash.  Another tactic is to have staying power.  This means not being caught short and having to sell during a period of loss.  This also means having enough faith in a strategy that we stick to the plan.  When we invest with purpose, doing what we love, and when we believe in the basic mathematics of value, we enjoy the process more and are more likely to hold on during down times, when most poor investors panic and sell.

Lessons from Pi are based on the creation and management of a Primary Pi Model Portfolio, called the Pifolio.  There are no secrets about this portfolio except that it ignores the stories from economic news (often created by someone with vested interests) and is based mainly on good math that reveals the truth through financial news.

The Pifolio is a theoretical portfolio of MSCI Country Benchmark Index ETFs that cover all the good value markets using my (almost) 50 years of global experience and my study of the analysis of four mathematical investing geniuses (and friends).

The Pifolio analysis begins with a continual research of international major stock markets that compares their value based on:

#1:  Current book to price

#2:  Cash flow to price

#3:  Earnings to price

#4:  Average dividend yield

#5:  Return on equity

#6:  Cash flow return.

#7:  Market history

We combine the research of several brilliant mathematicians and money managers with my years of investing experience.

This is a complete and continual study of what to do about the movement of international major and emerging stock markets.  I want to share this study throughout 2017 with you.

This analysis forms the basis of a Good Value Stock Market Strategy.   The analysis is rational, mathematical and does not worry about short term ups and downs.   This strategy is easy for anyone to follow and use.  Pi reveals the best value markets and provides contacts to managers and analysts and Country Index ETFs so almost anyone can create and follow their own strategy.

A country ETF provides diversification and cost efficiency by spreading one simple, even small investment into a basket of equities in a good value stock market.  The costs are low and this type of ETF is one of the hardest for institutions to cheat.  Expense ratios for most ETFs are lower than those of the average mutual fund.

Little knowledge, time, management or guesswork are required.  The investment is simply a diversified portfolio of good value indices.  Investments in an index are like investments in all the shares of a good value market.

Pi opens insights to numerous long term cycles that most investors miss because they have not been investing long enough to see them.

For example in the 1980s, a remarkable set of two economic circumstances helped anyone who spotted them become remarkably rich.  Some of my readers made enough to retire.  Others picked up 50% currency gains.  Then the cycle ended.  Warren Buffett explained the importance of this ending in a 1999 Fortune magazine interview.  He said:  Let me summarize what I’ve been saying about the stock market: I think it’s very hard to come up with a persuasive case that equities will over the next 17 years perform anything like—anything like—they’ve performed in the past 17!

I did well then, but always thought, “I should have invested more!”  Now those circumstances have come together and I am investing in them again.

The circumstances that created fortunes 30 years ago were an overvalued US market (compared to global markets) and an overvalued US dollar.  The two conditions are in place again!   There are currently ten good value (non US) developed markets,  plus 10 good value emerging markets.

Pi shows how to easily create a diversified, worry free portfolio in some of these good value markets using Country Index ETFs.

The current strength of the US dollar is a second remarkable similarity to 30 years ago.   The dollar rose along with Wall Street.  Profits came quickly over three years.  Then the dollar dropped like a stone, by 51%  in just two years.  A repeat of this pattern is growing and could create up to 50% extra profit if we start using strong dollars to accumulate good value stock market ETFs in other currencies.

This is the most exciting opportunity I have seen since we started sending our reports on international investing ideas more than three decades ago.  The trends are so clear that I have created a short, but powerful report “Three Currency Patterns for 50% Profits or More.”   This report shows how to earn an extra 50% from currency shifts with even small investments.  I kept the report short and simple, but included links to 153 pages of  Good Value Stock Market research and Asset Allocation Analysis.

The report shows 20 good value investments and a really powerful tactic that shows the most effective and least expensive way to accumulate these bargains in large or even very small amounts (less than $5,000).  There is extra profit potential of at least 50% so the report is worth a lot.

This report sells for $29.95 but you’ll receive the report, “Three Currency Patterns For 50% Profits or More” FREE when you subscribe to Pi.

Plus get the $39.95 report “The Silver Dip 2017” free.

With investors watching global stock markets bounce up and down, many missed two really important profit generating events.  The price of silver dipped below $14 an ounce as did shares of the iShares Silver ETF (SLV).   The second event is that the silver gold ratio hit 80 and has remained near this level, compared to a range of the 230s only two years ago.

These two events are a strong sign to invest in precious metals.

I prepared a special report “Silver Dip 2017” about a new leveraged speculation that can increase the returns in a safe portfolio by as much as eight times.  The purpose of the report is to share long term lessons about speculating in precious metals gained through 30 years of speculating and investing in gold and silver.

The low price of silver offers special value now so I want to send you this report because the “Silver Dip 2017” offers enormous profit potential in 2016.

Subscribers who acted on the report when it was originally issued  picked up a fast 54.1% profit.  The report updates what to do in 2017.

Hemingway’s Secret to Better Writing Saves You Up to $899

Our Writer’s Camps specialize in how to write to sell through self publishing.  This course goes way beyond logic and looks at how to think, write, earn with greater wisdom.

We help you learn ways to go the extra mile.

Was Ernest Hemingway’s secret to better writing in English or Spanish?

hemingway

‪Hemingway with Friends at La Florida (“Floridita”), Havana, Cuba.‬

To get a Nobel Prize in literature… you have to be willing to go the extra mile (1).   In Hemingway’s case perhaps he went further… 104.91 miles to be exact from Key West to Havana.   There may have been many reasons why Hemingway liked Cuba but he already had access to them in Key West.  Why go the extra 104.91 miles to Cuba?

Hemmingway speaking spanish

See Ernest Hemingway speaking Spanish below.

Perhaps Ernest Hemingway knew that speaking a second language makes you smarter.  Perhaps he realized that he could think and write better in English when one learns Spanish.   In 1939 he moved to Cuba and wrote “For Whom the Bell Tolls” which  became a Book-of-the-Month Club choice.  The book sold half a million copies almost instantly, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and cemented Hemingway’s reputation as one of the great writers in the English language… at a time when he was speaking two languages.

You too can be be smarter, write better and incidentally… and save up to $899 in the process.

You might ask… “What the heck does Spanish have to do with writing and self publishing?”

Well… to start, being smarter means you write better and the fact is, you do gain greater intellect with Super Thinking.   Super Thinking tactics integrate brain waves so absorption, retention and recollection of  information improve… a lot.   Most important of all, Super Thinking helps you synthesize what you learn so you can connect dots and use the knowledge you gain to achieve your goals.

In short, Super Thinking makes you smarter.. a lot!

Super Thinking is not a gimmick nor a trick. At least three best selling books, Superlearning, the Mozart Effect and Superlearning 2000 have revealed insights about how we can learn and think more powerfully based on systems drawn from the Bulgarian master, Dr. Georgi Lozanov.  Merri was among those few who learned how and is licensed to teach the Lozanov system.  She has organized a practical course on how to learn faster and better.  With her modified system, you discover how to think more powerfully in just three days…and experience the wonders of superlearning.

When I figured this out, my first thought was… “Why not help readers learn writing  AND Spanish?”  There and then was a two for one deal.

Enroll for our Writer’s Camp and you gain a full scholarship to one of our Super Thinking + Spanish course or vice versa.  You save $699 (single) to $899 (couple).

Still you ask… “Why Spanish for writing and self publishing?”

Spanish is the second most spoken romantic language.  Chances are a huge Spanish speaking population lives near you.  Speaking Spanish can be helpful in innumerable ways just from this fact.

There is more.  Learning a second language makes you smarter and healthier.

Image from Telegraph article “Why learn a foreign language? Benefits of bilingualism”. (2)

The Telegraph article (linked below) entitled “Why learn a foreign language? Benefits of bilingualism says (bolds are mine):  Learning a foreign language is more than just a boost to your CV or handy for travelling. It will make you smarter, more decisive and even better at English, says Anne Merritt.

Physiological studies have found that speaking two or more languages is a great asset to the cognitive process. The brains of bilingual people operate differently than single language speakers, and these differences offer several mental benefits.

You can read the entire article at the link below but to sum it up it shows seven ways that learning a second language improves your intellect and health:

* You build multitasking skills

* You stave off Alzheimer’s and dementia

* Your memory improves

* You become more perceptive

* You become smarter

LIVING IN COTACACHI IN 2014

If you are going to Ecuador, it would be good to know Spanish.  This is the last week to enroll in the July Super Shinking + Spanish course.  See details of the 2 4 1 offer below.

First, here is part two of the series:  Living in Cotacachi by Steve Marchant.

Although there most definitely have been changes in Cotacachi due to the expat influx, the most significant are not readily discernible. To get a better handle on those subtle changes I decided to ask some questions to one of the very first retiree expats who arrived in Cotacachi in late 2006/ early 2007. She and her husband had an early setback but on the whole have a very positive attitude and feeling about Cotacachi. You can see the interview below.

I also asked many local folk for their views. There is a strong concurrence in viewpoints along the following lines; the expat arrivals’ main negative effect has been rising property prices and the main positive effect has been increased employment. A lesser benefit has been some cultural exchange, especially access to English tuition but also some aid to local communities. When I asked questions, I also asked about more general change and the principal changes mentioned were better roads and also new buildings. In the last 7 years Cotacachi now has a large new high school and also a courthouse.

cotacachi

Below the interview with Julie W.

Q: How many years have you lived in Cotacachi?

A: We’re in to our 7th year now.

Q: What attracted you to Cotacachi in the first place?

We loved the “village concept” where we could walk to town where the locals greet one another.  We liked the small town atmosphere of less traffic, less pollution and a quiet and peaceful life.

cotacachi

Schoolboy walking home through the well-kept main town square.

Q: Remembering that initial attraction, did you feel a honeymoon period when you first came?

A: Yes and no.  In many ways, we still feel like we are in the honeymoon period.  We truly love our life here.  And despite those things that are not nearly as efficient as in the States, we have not found it a problem to adjust.

Of course when you live somewhere for awhile, everyday life begins to happen. Ecuador is a different and beautiful culture, but it has its challenges also.  People cannot come here and expect everything to be like it is in the States or Canada or wherever they are from.  You need to be realistic about life in a foreign country, especially in a developing nation.  If you are not comfortable in the country, then it is best not to move there.

Burglaries have increased in Cotacachi with the increase in the expat population.  The first three years we were here, you didn’t hear of any burglaries as you do now.  We have also been broken into, so we have found that you do have to secure your property and that is just part of living here.  So we just take the steps necessary to resolve that challenge.

Q: Cotacachi has changed in some ways since 2006/7 – what changes have you observed?

A: Well, for one thing, the increase of the expat community has caused prices for property to increase, in some cases 3 times as much. This is a bit problematic for the locals and the culture in general as the prices that looked so good to expats are often unaffordable for the average Ecuadorian, particularly here in Cotacachi.

cotacachi

Italian restaurant started in Cotacachi by expat entrepreneur.

A: And of course you see more businesses that expats have started, particularly restaurants and “hang out” places.  But also laundry mats, yoga classes, movie theater, etc., and other kinds of things the expats are used to but were not here before.
A bigger expat population does increase the opportunities for friendships from your own culture and with those who speak your language.  And it also, in some cases, reduces the need to learn Spanish or to interact with the locals.  But we’re not sure that is necessarily a positive thing, but it is a change.  We think it is important to have Ecuadorian friends and become a good neighbor, not just be some strangers who are living in their separate communities and do not feel part of the Cotacachi community.

Also, we notice that some of the locals are not quite as friendly as they were when we first arrived.  This could possibly be because they are more used to expats and we are not such a novelty anymore.  And another contributing factor might be that some expats have not integrated that well and have stood out as not being respectful or too impatient or demanding with the people and the culture.

There is also an increased police presence in the last 6 years, with a new police station built just last year.  In the past there were just a handful of officers for the entire Cotacachi canton. [County]

cotacachi

Q: How have those changes worked for you? For example, the fact that there are more retirees in Cotacachi now … is that a good thing as far as you are concerned?

Other than the inflated value of properties and building costs, we don’t really see the increase in expats here as good or bad.  Much depends on the people that arrive here and how they interact within the community.  Fortunately, in general, the expats have integrated into the Ecuadorian lifestyle–meaning, that the town has not become a Westernized town.  It still feels like the same Cotacachi that we moved into  6 years ago with the dozens of leather shops, numerous bakeries, small fruit and vegetable shops and local restaurants that frequently go in and out of business.  Even with the increased expats businesses, etc., you don’t walk through the town and feel like you are in some Western resort with all the fancy high-end shops, etc.

cotacachi

Q: Are you enjoying your experience of living in Cotacachi?

Yes, we love living here and love Cotacachi and the people here.  We travel a bit, and every time we return home, we are so grateful for the beauty, clean air, and the magnificent mountains that surround us.

Q: What hopes and expectations do you have for how Cotacachi is going to be in the next couple of years and also how your li(fe)ves in Cotacachi will be?

We just expect living here to get better and better.  The northern influence also has its benefits to the Ecuadorians as does the Ecuadorian lifestyle has for us Westerners.  We see how more workers tend to come to work on time now, how people are more likely to show up when they say they will, and just a little more respectful of time than when we first arrived.

People here work to live rather than live to work.  So you see a lot more happy people even if they do not have all the material luxuries that we think we need to be happy.  Family is important and it is so wonderful to see families spending time together on weekends and genuinely enjoying each other.  And, of course, they love parties and celebrations.

When we originally made the decision to move to Ecuador, some of our friends in the States were very concerned saying that it was a big move, and what if we didn’t like it?  And we answered, “We’ll do something else.”  But that is not the case.  We never had any doubts then nor do we now.

Thank you so much for your time and thoughts Julie.

An M.D. who attended wrote:   We want to thank you plus all the others for making the class such a fun and rewarding experience.

Thank you!  Saludos!

gary-scott-relaxation-session

Cotacachi: Then and Now

This post has an article about long term Cotacachi, Ecuador resident, Steve Marchant.

First, a note about reader savings.  Yesterday’s post reviewed the 10% July Aromatherapy Essential Oil sale.

What I failed to point out is that Gary Scott readers have a coupon code “garyscott” that gives an additional 10% discount.  When you enter the code you get a 20% discount.  See this post here.

Here is Steve Marchant’s article about Cotacachi.

I first visited Cotacachi in 2002. I’d wanted to get out of Quito and being new to the country I still let my guide book do the guiding and I liked what I read about Otavalo and Cotacachi – markets and beautiful scenery seemed to be the gist of it.
As I remember, Cotacachi was very quiet and I was struck by the fact that I was the only foreigner walking the streets. Sure, there were always dribs and drabs of foreigners arriving to visit the leather stores at the weekends but I didn’t see one that day.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/garyascott/14565139296/

Cotacachi circa 2006 – less common sight these days but the slow pace of life still prevails.

In fact if you do a custom search of Google for the year 2004 plus results in English this is a sample of what you see:-

cotacachi ecuador

Checking through the results there is not one mention of retirement or property in Cotacachi – it was all to do with sightseeing tours. Do the same search in 2014 and the search results lead to a myriad of pages about properties for sale, retirement and social interaction among expats. In short there has been a transformation. Fast forward to 2014 and Cotacachi is an established retirement destination for the baby-boomer generation. More retirees arrive every month – the word is most definitely out.

I’m reminded of Malcolm Gladwell’s Tipping Point in which he talks about the moment of significant mass leading to a sociological change. I lived in Cotacachi between 2006 and 2009 and somewhere in those years, or shortly after, Cotacachi experienced a tipping point and went from being a sleepy unknown bucolic paradise with close to zero expat residents to an expat retirement bucolic paradise with 400-500 (and increasing) expats living there in 2014.

cotacachi ecuador

2008 Easter parade – timeless traditions continue in Cotacachi

So, if Cotacachi was a bucolic paradise then and now, why has it recently become a favored destination for expat retirees? Well a lot of it has to do with a tipping point and human behavior. The majority of us are social folk and we like to mix with similar folks. You can see this today in Cotacachi. As the word got out about Cotacachi, principally on this site in the earlier years, and especially news of early-adopter expats ironing out the creases, more and more expats looking to retire overseas decided that Ecuador and specifically Cotacachi, would be a good retirement location for them because they would find a welcoming community of like-minded folk.

* You build multitasking skills

* You stave off Alzheimer’s and dementia

* Your memory improves

* You become more perceptive

* You become smarter

* Your decision-making skills improve

* You improve your English

A better command of English… used by a smarter, more perceptive person who can remember details and multi task, creates a better writer.

With this. I rest Hemingway’s case.

Three International Real Estate Tips

Get three important tips on how to gain international real estate profits below (1).

gresham real estate

14th Avenue, Gresham Ore.

Real estate is in my blood.  I do not know whey but by the age 21, I had already built a $2,000 windfall into seven duplexes and a house  on 14th Ave. (shown in the map above) across from Gresham Oregon High School.   I could have continued to buy, sell and rent real estate in Oregon but my threshold for boredom is very low.  The wanderlust bug bit me and I began to travel throughout Asia.

This led me on a global journey where over four decades I purchased and sold many properties in the USA, Dominican Republic, England, Isle of Man and Ecuador.

Real estate and has been a big part of Merri’s and my multi dimensional micro business that has consisted of publishing, seminars and real estate.   Though our main business has been writing and speaking about international investing and business, we have also included and profited a great deal from real estate.

The CashFlowDepot has been providing real estate training since 1975 and recently asked me to do a 45 minute interview on how to buy and sell international real estate.  In that interview (which you can hear below) I took a 45 year journey around the world sharing how I bought each property in each country and why.

The interview tells:

#1: How to spot real estate value.

#2: The difference between buying real estate in US versus abroad.

#3: How to increase value by changing a property’s utility and have the property turn into a multi dimensional opportunity.

As is often the case, I gabbed on a bit too much so the interview ran a bit over an hour and covered three real estate tips.  There is a link below to hear the interview.

On the subject of multi dimensional opportunity, the Cotacachi Inn Land of the Sun (formerly Hotel Meson de las Flores)… is for sale.

Cotacachi hotel El Meson de las Flores

Inn Land of the Sun

cotacachi-hotels

Land of the Sun courtyard.

This is a perfect multi dimensional opportunity. You can live where you have your business. The hotel offers opportunity as a hotel or as a seminar or medical tourism or retirement center or can be a condo opportunity.

The hotel has a rich history but for two important reasons has a growing importance in the modern world.

First, the new Quito Airport is half an hour closer to the hotel than before.  This means that Inn Land of the Sun is now almost as close to Quito Airport as Quito.

Second, the Inn is just minutes to the new Yachay University and City of Knowledge project (2).   To move away from a mining-economy Ecuador has been building a world-class university and ‘City of Knowledge’ near by and is investing heavily in education, infrastructure and technology.

This is a “Silicon Valley” type project and since a small country like Ecuador can’t be world-class in every field, Yachay is focused on five strategic areas: Life Sciences, IT, Nanotechnology, Energy and Petrochemicals.

Inn Land of the Sun has 15 rooms, two conference rooms for 50, a full kitchen and is Cotacachi’s oldest hotel located in a 180 year old colonial building with open air court yard just off the main plaza and next to Cotacachi Cathedral.

Here is one of the renovated rooms.

Cotacachi hotel El Meson de las Flores

Recently a potential buyer did more than a month’s due diligence. His analysis showed that the hotel would break even with just four rooms a night occupancy.  He finally decided not to buy, but you can see why and how this might help you have a multi dimensional business.

The prospective buyer wrote to Lin Neal, the broker looking after this property :  I completed my analysis, determined a break-even point on the hotel, and had discussions with my two partners over the past two days.  In the end, the decision was based not on the property, not on the financial numbers and considerations, but on the fact we decided we liked the coast and Manta better than Cotacachi.

We all agreed that if one of us actually lived in Cotacachi as our primary home, that it would make sense.  Of the three of us, no one wanted to make Cotacachi their home, even though the town has much to offer.  We are all beach people to the core!

I do not see this as a traditional real estate purchase.  It is a special piece of property that requires special care which means ongoing costs regardless of the business operating within it.  I would recommend it to anyone desiring to do anything in the real estate business….

If you have any other prospective buyers, I would be willing to share a summary of my financial analysis with them.  It was interesting that assuming a net profit from the restaurant of $1500 a month (after deducting cost of sales), it only took an occupancy of just over 4 rooms per night for the year to break-even.  That was lower than I expected.

That hotel is a real “jewel” in so many ways and is the type of place that when in Cotacachi, is definitely the place we would choose to stay, even if there were a flash-bang new hotel available.  I am surprised there is not someone already in Cotacachi who could jump into this and get it going.  Someone that lives there and has a flare for developing such a business, I am convinced, could make it work and have a lot of fun in the process.

Anyway, thanks again to all of you who put together the information in answer to my pesky questions, and as stated before, if you have a potential buyer who wants to benefit from my analysis, I am willing to share it with them.

The Inn land of the Sun is for sale for $299,000.

Real estate has played a huge part in Merri’s and my multi dimensional career. We hope the three tips below and perhaps Inn Land of the Sun will be important for you as well.

All profits from the hotel have been used to expand the economy in Cotacachi or to provide scholarships to youth in Ecuador and the hotel is being offered for substantially less than the foundation has paid into this building.

Ecuador, the Big Easy South

One of my favorite feelings in Ecuador is the feeling of ease… at every level… especially when the chips are down.

For example on a presidential visit I was able to take this photo of President Correa.  Can you imagine the reaction if a stranger in a crowd came this close to the US President’s face?

See details here.

Ecuador’s El Presidente is not without protection.  This was revealed when President Correa was a special guest at our hotel Inn Land of the Sun recently. (LOTS)

Correa was officiating at the Ecuador Social Security office in Otavalo and used 2 rooms at the Inn for his headquarters while he was in Otavalo, Cotacachi and Ibarra.

This was no surprise. The President of Ecuador has stayed at Inn Land of the Sun before and the staff was expecting security precautions.

All in all it was a busy weekend for the staff and guests, an exciting day with the turmoil one would expect when a national leader arrives.  Yet there was an ease to this event as well… no snipers… no helicopters… and the security people have a sense of friendliness you’ll not feel up north.   In Ecuador the system treats bystanders with dignity… not as potential enemies without respect.  This is Ecuador’s ease.

Multi Currency Seminar

Improve Safety – Increase Profits

Learn how to improve the safety of your savings and investments by selecting good value and diversified investments in a multi-currency portfolio.

Few decisions are as important to your wealth as the value of the markets and currencies you invest in.  This has been our area of expertise since the 1970s and we have worked with and advised some of the largest currency traders in the world.

Gain Protection First – Against the Dollar’s Purchasing Power Loss.  In 1913 the The Federal Reserve Act created the Federal Reserve Bank to protect the purchasing power of the US dollar, which has since lost about 94% of its purchasing power.  Here is its price compared with gold since 1900.

The Fed has let the dollar lose most of its strength plus has allowed interest rates to fall so low, that safe investments cannot keep pace with the drop in purchasing power.

Chart from Grandfather Economic Report (2)

Many investors have forgotten about the risk of a falling dollar because the greenback has been strong for the past five years.  This temporary dollar strength came after the great recession of 2009 just as there was temporary dollar strength after the great recession of the 1980s.  Then about six years after the recession, an agreement was made by major governments to weaken the dollar.

There was a severe global economic recession affecting much of the developed world in the late 1970s and early 1980s.  The United States and Japan exited the recession relatively early, but high unemployment would continue to affect Europe and the UK through to at least 1985.  As a consequence between 1980 and 1985, the US dollar had appreciated by about 50% against the Japanese yen, Deutsche mark, French franc and British pound, the currencies of the next four biggest economies at the time. Then the governments reached an agreement and exchange rate values of the dollar versus the yen declined by 51% from 1985 to 1987.

Now the world is again in the same place.  The recession is over.  Europe is a bit behind in recovery and the dollar is 50% higher than before the recession and there is no reason for the greenback to be  strong.

The agreement in 1985 was called the Plaza Accord.   Over just two years the greenback dropped nearly 50% versus other major currencies.  The next accord will generate great profits for those who know what to do while it ruins the purchasing power of dollar back investments.

The strong US dollar and low interest rates have created one of the biggest stock and multi currency breakout opportunities in history.  Learn how to create a plan to profit from multi currency shifts ahead.

One reason for the potential gains is that stock markets and currency values are cyclical.  Due to low interest rates created by the 2009 economic downturn, the US and a few other equity markets have risen to some of their highest prices, ever.  These markets offer very poor value now.  The steep valuation creates incredible profit potential but also hides some enormous risks.  Learn how to develop an investing strategy based of earnings, cash flows, dividends and book values to increase potential for profit and reduce the risks.

Next Extra Profit Created by Value Breakouts

Over the history of US equity markets, the  price of overall markets have risen about 9.1 percent, respectively, compounded annually.  Yet over more than a hundred years of stock market activity,  a majority of the profits have come from just a very few dramatic breakouts.

Equity markets are ruled in the short term by emotions that create unpredictable ups and downs.  Numerous fears of defaults, worries of double dip recessions, high unemployment, concerns about fiscal cliffs, hold investors back.  Yet global population growth and advances in production and prosperity are relentless economic fundamentals that increase value.

When fear holds back a a fundamentally rising value, rising profit potential grows.  Values increase as prices stagnate.  Then markets break free and rocket upwards creating wealth, prosperity and growth.

Learn how to use value as a guide for spotting these breakouts that create fortunes.

For example the seminar shows the potential for a breakout of the Singapore dollar.

singapore dollar chart

US dollar rising against Singapore www.finance.yahoo.com chart

The US dollar has been rising without valid economic reasons versus the Singapore dollar since the middle of 2011.  The rise has been especially strong since mid 2014.  This currency distortion creates extra value opportunity because the fundamentals for the Singapore dollar are strong and fundamentals for the US dollar weak.  This is exactly the type of breakout position we look for and share in this seminar.

Here are the currency fundamentals:

US GDP Growth last year: 2.2%

Singapore GDP Growth last year: 2.9%

US current account balance for last year:  -$758 billion or -2.5% of GDP

Singapore current account balance for last year: +$49 billion or +21.2% of GDP

US Budget Balance as % of GDP for last year:  -2.6%

Singapore Budget Balance as % of GDP for last year was a low: -0.7%

US Unemployment: 5%

Singapore Unemployment: 2.0%

US$ Interest Rate 10 year bonds:  2.19%

Singapore $ Interest Rate 10 year bonds: 2.57%

These are economic signs of a currency’s strength.  They show a classic indicator that it is a good time to borrow US dollars and invest in Singapore dollars.

Where to Invest

The seminar reviews many ways to diversify currencies for investors large and small.

For example almost anyone can invest in the Currency Shares Singapore Dollar Trust (FXSG)  managed by Guggenheim Partners.

Guggenheim manages a stable of currency ETFs under the Currency Shares brand.

These ETFs are traded on the New York Stock Exchange so even small investors can diversify in other currencies.

One of the ETFs is the CurrencyShares Singapore Dollar Trust (FXSG).  The investment seeks to reflect the price of the Singapore Dollar.  This provides a low cost, simple, cost-effective means of gaining investment benefits similar to those of holding Singapore Dollars.

Find out which breakouts are likely to take place next.

Merri and I have been able to help readers have better lives, less stress and to make fortunes during up and down markets for over 30 years.  The simple reason for this is that we aim for the really big profits earned at the start of a breakout.

In 2016 I want to kick off the year with you and share why I have confidence and enthusiasm about the breakouts that are near.

Here is a partial syllabus of this online seminar:

International & Value Investing Outside the Box.  This session shows how to take advantage of unusual currency breakouts.

Here is an example.  At our October 2012 seminar we told delegates that the Japanese yen was too strong and was likely to weaken early in the next year. In the next six months, the US dollar rose 13% against the yen.  On December 12, 2012 one USA dollar would buy 82 yen.

finance.yahoo chart

Delegates who acted and sold the yen short picked up an extra 13% forex profit in nine months.

There is a second way they could have earned.  They could have borrowed Japanese yen at a low interest rate (2.5%) and invested the borrowed yen into a Dow Jones Industrial ETF for this six month period.

In this example $100,000 was invested and used as collateral to borrow $100,000 worth of Japanese yen at 2.50%.   The rate was 82 yen per dollar so to get $100,000, 8,200,000 yen was borrowed.

The $200,000 was invested in a Dow Jones Industrial ETF… a mutual fund traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

The ETF rose, along with the Dow, 12.85%.

The Dow as shown in this chart rose over 12% from January to July 2013.

yahoo finance chart

The loan cost per year is $2,500 (2.5% on $100,000).    The $200,000 portfolio rose $25,700 (12.85% of $200,000).  In other words, the $100,000 originally invested grew $23,200 in six months.

That is the positive carry without the forex profit.  Plus there is a forex gain as well.

By July a dollar would buy 100 yen!

To pay off the 8,200,000 loan would have cost $82,000 at the rate of 100 yen per dollar adding another $18,000 of profit.

The portfolio is worth $223,200 less $82,000 loan payoff or $141,200. That translates into a total six month profit of 41.2%.

How to spot value from cycles.  Stocks rise from the cycle of war, productivity and demographics. Cycles create recurring profits. Economies and stock markets cycle up and down around every 15 years as shown in this graph.

stock-Charts

The effect of war cycles on the US Stock Market since 1906.

Bull and bear cycles are based on cycles of human interaction, war, technology and productivity.  Economic downturns create war.

Learn how the Cyber War (WWIV) may change the way we live and act and how this will affect currencies and investments.

Details in the seminar include:

This research shows that the stocks Buffet chooses are safe (with low beta and low volatility), cheap (value stocks with low price-to-book ratios), and high quality (stocks of companies that are profitable, stable, growing, and with high payout ratios), but his big, extra profits come from leverage and staying power.  At times Buffet’s portfolio, as all value portfolios, has fallen, but he has been willing and able to wait long periods for the value to reveal itself and prices to recover.

keppler asset management chart

This chart based on a 45 year portfolio study shows that holding a diversified good value portfolio (based on a  good value strategy) for 13 month’s time, increases the probability of outperformance to 70%.

Buffett leverages his portfolio at a ratio of approximately 1.6 to 1.  This rate of expansion by the way is called the “Golden Ratio”.  It is a mathematical formula that controls the growth of most natural things; trees, the shape of leaves, the spiral of shells, as well as the way economies and societies grow.

We’ll sum the strategy, how to leverage cheap, safe, quality stocks and for what period of time based on your circumstances.

Learn to plan in a way so you never run out of money.  The seminar also has a session on the importance of having and sticking to a plan.  See how success is dependent on conviction, wherewithal, and skill to operate with leverage and significant risk.  Learn a three point strategy based on my 50 (almost) years of investing experience combined with wisdom gained from some of the world’s best investment managers and economic mathematical scientists.

Enjoy investing more with slow, worry free, good value investing.  Stress, worry and fear are three of an investor’s worst enemies.  These are major foundations of the Behavior Gap, a trait exhibited by most investors, that causes them to underperform any market they choose.  The behavior gap is created by natural human responses to fear.  The losses created by this gap grow when investors trade short term under stress.

Learn how to put meaning into your investing by creating profitable strategies that combine good value investments with unique, personal goals.

Learn how to span the behavior gap.  Behavior gaps are among the biggest reasons why so many investors fail.  Human evolution makes fear the second most powerful motivator.  (Greed is the third.)  Fear creates investment losses due to behavior gaps.  Fear motivates us more strongly than desire.  By nature investors are risk adverse, when they should embrace risk.  Purpose is the most powerful motivator,  stronger than fear and greed.  One powerful way to overcome the behavior gap is to invest with a purpose.

Combine your needs and capabilities with the secrets and the math of our good value model portfolio.

Share ideas about my good value portfolio.  My personal investment portfolio comes from a continual analysis of international stock markets and a comparison of their value based on current book to price, cash flow to price, earnings to price, average dividend yield, return on equity and cash flow return.

Markets included in this portfolio are:

• Norway
• Australia
• Hong Kong
• Japan
• Singapore
• United Kingdom
• Taiwan
• South Korea
• China

These markets have been chosen based on four pillars of valuation.

• Absolute Valuation
• Relative Valuation
• Current versus Historic Valuation
• Current Relative versus Relative Historic Valuation   xxxxxx

The seminar also reveals how to use Country ETFs to easily construct a diversified, risk-controlled, equally weighted representative country portfolios in all of these good value countries.

You are investing in a diversified portfolio of good value indices.  A BUY rating for an index does NOT imply that any stock in that country is an attractive investment, so you do not have to pick and choose shares.  You can invest in the index which is like investing in all the shares in the index.  All you have to do is invest in an ETF that in turn invests passively in all the shares of the index.

The small town bank that I use looks after my 401K trust account and their service is first class.

The savings you can gain on any purchase of country ETFs has the potential to be more than the cost of the seminar.

I have good news about the cost of the seminar as well.   For almost three decades the seminar fee has been $799.   Now because we have conducted the Value Investing Seminar online, you can save  thousands.  With the webinar, you save the cost of travel and accommodations, plus due to the fact that we don’t have to hire an expensive seminar room, we have dropped the fee from $799 to $297.  You save $502 on the fee alone plus eliminate the cost of travel and accommodations.

Enroll in the current Online Value Investing Seminar for only $297.

You can sign up for all three of the seminars that we’ll conduct this year and save even more.  As markets change we update the Value Investing Seminar, every four months, October, February, May.  Then we conduct the seminar in person in July or August.   The seminar available now has just been updated from our October 2015 seminar.
