Rosaspamba Our Ecuador Sanctuary

Here is a shot taken from the front yard of our Ecuador sanctuary in the Andes.

This land is part of a cloud forest and we are often truly above the clouds!

Many valleys in Ecuador are famous for the longevity of the residents. Our search for such valleys led us to understand that we can use more than landscape to live better, richer and longer.

This article was written on May 2, 2009, on the 41st anniversary of starting my international business.  Yet I plan to keep writing and sharing information for 41 more years!

This was more than an idle boast.  The promise was made from a belief and understanding that  began to grow when we first arrived  in Ecuador and began searching for the longevity valleys there.

We purchased the 962 acre Hacienda Rosaspamba and lived and studied there for nearly a year with a Taita Yatchak and his apprentices.

Here is another shot at Rosaspamba of one of the yatchak’s apprentices.

Mountain mists are important to longevity.  One Ecuador shaman taught us that the hydrogen ions in the mists bond with free radicals on the skin to cleanse the body from the outside in.

Up here in these mountains people in decades and centuries past labored, breathed clean air, drank pure water and ate fresh food. These were hardy mountain people who worked hard, had little, ate little and with that made the most. Life was simple and they kept it that way.

The life here is healthy.

There is fresh water.  Here is the yatchak at one of Rosaspamba’s water falls.

Natural Health Cancer Special

There is an American Osteopath in Quito, Dr. Robert Wickman, about whom we have received some great reports.

Numerous readers claim he has saved their lives at a price they could afford.  That is really good news, but here is more good news for our readers.

Alternatives to to chemo therapy are important because as the article at mediconline shows the side effects are not good, plus sequestration may eliminate this option.

mediconweb photo

(photo from mediconline 13 side effect of chemo. See link below)

Recent articles in US  report that for most of Americans,  even with their insurance,  cannot afford  traditional chemo drugs at $3,000 to $7,000 a month.  Cancer clinics are turning away patients because they can no longer afford to take the hit on reduced pricing.  Take for example excerpts from the article entitled “Sequestration Nation: Medicare Reductions Are Hurting Elderly Cancer Patients” at the website of the think tank Center for American Progress (linked below)

The article says: In case you didn’t know, April is National Cancer Control Month. Ironically, though, as of April 1, the government began doing less to control cancer. As part of sequestration, the government began reducing funding for a specific portion of the Medicare program that is critical to cancer patients.

As The Washington Post recently reported, legislators intended to partially shield Medicare from sequestration by limiting reductions to the program to 2 percent, as opposed to the 7.8 percent cuts faced by most other programs. This 2 percent cut, however, will fall heavily on cancer patients enrolled in Medicare.

Because oncologists can’t change the cost of the drugs they purchase, the entire 2 percent reduction must come out of overhead costs for storing and administering the medicine.

Clinics that are able stay open will likely only be able to do so by drastically reducing the number of patients they currently see. In response to the funding cut, North Shore Hematology Oncology Associates in Long Island, New York, recently announced that one-third of their 16,000 Medicare patients would have to seek treatment elsewhere.

For elderly cancer patients involved in traditional treatment programs, sequestration will be a heavy load to bear. For those involved in clinical trials, however, the situation is even more dire. Because clinical trials for cancer treatment involve the development of experimental drugs, both facilities and individual patients must receive approval from the government and pharmaceutical companies to take part. As a result, the options for those patients who lose coverage could be severely limited.

What’s even more galling is that patients who are fortunate enough to find a nearby hospital to treat them will need to pay more, according to the actuarial firm Milliman. The firm found that Medicare patients paid an average of $650 more per year when they received cancer treatment solely from hospitals. This increased cost is one that many patients may not be able to handle. Cancer patient Helen Jeton-Mantooth of Arkansas knows “people that because they can’t afford their medications just don’t take them … and they wind up dying.”

Dr. Wickman’s practice has always offered an effective alternative and one that is even enjoyable.  Patients  have said  “You come to Dr. Wickman’s clinic as a patient, but while there you live like a tourist”.

In addition, our readers can save thousands of dollars.

Dr. Wickman charges $3,000 a week for his services.  Six  weeks is normally the maximum length of time for treatment with something like cancer.

Dr. Wickman has extended a $500 per week discount to any patient who is referred to him from the Ecuadorliving.com website.

Dr. Robert Wickman

Dr. Robert Wickman.

As readers kept telling us about Dr. Wickman, we investigated and found this article in Who’s Who.

“Why is there a need for cures?  Because, somewhere down the line, a law of nature was broken and there is a penalty involved. If you choose to disgrace Mother Nature and break her rules, you will pay in the form of a disease. Fortunately, she does provide a way for you to redeem yourself and return to optimal health.”

These words belong to Dr. Robert Wickman, who is an expert guide for returning his ailing and sometimes terminal patients, back home, where they belong, to optimal health.  Robert B. Wickman is an Osteopathic doctor, specializing in diseases of the nervous system and spinal column. He has been treating degenerative diseases such as Cancer, Diabetes, Lupus, MS, Muscular Dystrophy, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and AIDS to name a few, for over 30 years.

The desire to heal people has been in Dr. Wickman since high school. He did a Tour of Duty with the U.S. Army and on returning he enrolled in the Kansas City College of Osteopathy & Surgery, which is now known as University Health Sciences. After receiving his D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy) he interned in Tucson, AZ and after completing his intern-ship moved to Scottsdale, AZ where he practiced for 20 years.

Dr. Wickman’s first few years were spent as a traditional family practitioner. When he referred his cancer patients were to an oncologist it became evident, that these folks were dying from either radiation poisoning, or chemical poisoning from chemotherapy, in addition possibly having parts of their bodies surgically removed.  Dr. Wickman knew there must be a better approach to healing. Thus began his inquisitive search for cures instead of covering up the symptoms. He has developed his own techniques over the years to help the body help itself.

His approach involves the use of ozone, hydrogen peroxide, electrotherapy against parasites, colonic irrigations, various herbs beneficial to the body’s recovery system, IPT therapy, diet and supplements, and a coordinated system of immune builders capable of cell to cell metabolism. The doctor sees traditional medicine’s approach to a problem as chasing after the symptoms.

A tumor is a symptom, and cutting it out doesn’t remove the cause. A pain here or there is a symptom and cutting it out doesn’t remove the cause.

Doctor Wickman’s common scenerio for a person/patient seeking optimal health is that he/she travels to his clinic in Ecuador and enjoys the process of  getting well again. In no time most all of his patients turn from being a patient into a tourist. They leave Ecuador with many trinkets and photos of their good time here. They go home to finish getting well. They are exiting their disease processes instead of getting more deeply involved with them.

From Monday to Friday, intense treatments are given: nothing painful or anything to do with causing more stress. The day is passed in an enjoyable fashion. A complete vegetarian diet is prescribed. This lack of meat, chicken, fish, or pork aids the immune system to a much quicker recovery and helps eliminate the disease process much faster. Give the body a chance and you will be amazed at what it will do for you.

Doctor Wickman is affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the University of Guayaquil / Universidad de Guayaquil. In the doctor’s free time he enjoys bowling and deep sea fishing. Quito, Ecuador, the bustling capital of Ecuador is where the doctor lives and works, and was for many years just a stopover for tourists heading to the Galápagos. A stopover on the way to a place of discovery, the place of discovery that showed Darwin Nature’s way of altering and correcting itself. The naysayers didn’t stop Darwin’s mission of discovery. And Doctor Wickman continues his life mission of healing men, women and children through alternative procedures. So if it is health you wish to recover, not maintaining your illness, contact him and you’ll see what can be done to accomplish your desires.

Dr. Wickman’s offices:

in Quito, Ecuador.

Here is a testamonial from John Vnuk:

Dr. Wickman has been practicing alternative medicine in Quito, Ecuador for nearly 30 years with great successes reported by his patients.  From cancer to Alzheimers, Lou Gehrig’s  to Diabetes, Lyme disease and other degenerative dis-orders.

Robert Wickman D.O. came to Ecuador form Scottsdale Arizona where he had a very busy practice treating heart disease  degenerative diseases, and other  chronic illness that the US medical establishment can only mange but with no hope of healing.  He practiced in Arizona for over 20 years.

He felt that practicing in the U.S. was as he says, “like practicing with handcuffs on”.  “I am the type of person who , if something does not work, then I keep looking for something that does work”.  Dr. Wickman learned about holistic treatments because case after case has proven to him that alternatives approaches  to diseases  do work, and do work permanently. “I use conventional medicine when it is needed, but prefer natural remedies to get a person back to  good health and support that patient by building up their own immune system”.  “It is the only lasting  way to find “true healing”.

Dr. Wickman says that “I had my fill of hospitals in the U.S.  I could never do things in Arizona that I can do here in Ecuador, like chelation therapy to treat heart disease, or natural proven protocols that can reverse cancer, or diabetes or even Alzheimer’s.”  He added that “all traditional allopathic medicines only treat the symptoms and not the cause”.  It is imposable to get the patient well by  only treating the symptoms or being limited by the FDA  on what  protocols are approved”.

Dr. Wickman has an arsenal of procedures and alternatives methods he uses once he ascertains what the patient needs.  One very promising and potent therapy is “Frequency Medicine”.  After studying and researching the amazing successes with a variety of frequency protocols, he has been experiencing great successes for his patients with all types of cancer using a method and device  he discovered in Germany.

What is frequency medicine?  In the 1930’s  Dr. Royal Rife discovered that there were particular frequencies that could be identified for each organ and for each disease.  The theory, according to Dr. Wickman “is that if you can zero in on the region and the frequency  emanating from a diseased  area, then you can target it with frequencies in a stronger dose to negate the diseased tissue or organ”.   Some of his greatest successes has been with melanoma, prostate, lung and  quite frankly  when the U.S. Doctors have given up and instructed the patient to prepare for imminent death.

By looking at a patients DNA, Dr Wickman can identify the origins of an illness, treat it with frequencies and other complimentary protocols to reduce tumors  and “low and behold” the pain  goes away and the patients strength increases.  Staff members at Dr. Wickmans clinic like to say, “Come here as a patient, but while here,  live like a tourist”.   One of the curative ingredients at the Wickman clinic in Quito is “escaping” the people and the everyday stresses back home which may have contributed to the illness in the first place. Quito seems to have a curative effect on patients.   maybe it’s the city, or the clinic or the fact that being treated at the Wcikman clinic is more of a healing ” loving” environment than that of a cold hospital.

Robert Wickman has been named the “Grandfather of Alkalinity” by  groups advocating alternative cancer protocols and health freedoms in the U.S.  For decades, Dr. Wickman has  been  teaching his patients  that cancer’s can not survive in an alkaline environment,   Cancer needs an acid pH to thrive.  Diet and supplements are all a person needs to turn an acid pH  to a alkaline pH.   “The body needs to be in an alkaline condition in order for healing to take place”.  You must also build up the immune system by diet, supplements a variety of procedures  Dr. Wickman customizes  with each patients and of course frequencies.

Dr. Wickman’s biggest challenge is to treat people who have been diagnosed with multiple cancers. ” I have a female patient who had cancer in the brain, lungs, liver, kidneys and the lymph system.  The root cancer was in the brain.  She exhausted the required  treatments in the U.S., they sent her home to die”.  Dr. Wickman put her on frequencies and in less than eight weeks she is walking again her tumors are shrinking, but as important, the pain is gone and she has hope and a new quality life to enjoy as she recovers.

Lastly, Dr. Wickman has a holistic and spiritual perspective on healing.  As he puts it, “the body, mind and soul are all an integral part to true healing”.  Traditional medicine may treat the body but leaves out the  whole being as part of the healing process.  “I have found out that everyone who has a disease is also storing the symptoms in their soul”.

Holistic is a word that might include  Dr. Robert Wickman’s methodology in its definition   Using traditional medicine  ( including surgery at a 1st class Quito hospital  when necessary), laser and frequency  treatments,  massive nutritional and diet support, alkalinity and other protocols and medicines not approved in the U.S. ( and soon to be eliminated in Mexico  alternative clinics due to the NAFTA  new 600 mile beyond the border  enforcement  regulations), he has helped people from around the globe.

Robert Wickman loves treating people in Ecuador. Once asked  what would he do if he had more patients in need then his clinic can handle.  He replied,” Well,  it’s hard to turn someone away who is up against the clock, we will make room”.

He has witnessed hundreds of patients return to health.  which is “so much more rewarding than just chasing around symptoms”.  No wonder Dr. Robert Wickman has devoted his life to bringing the benefits of alternative medicine to the patients he serves.

Seven P Secrets of Self Publishing

When you write, you can work anywhere.   Here I am working poolside in the winter, at our Florida farm.

gary scott

Here I am with our hound Ma, working during the summer at our North Carolina farm.

Learn how to earn everywhere, while living anywhere you choose.  I have been able to earn by writing in Hong Kong, England, the Isle of Man, Dominican republic and Ecuador to name a few of the place I have lived.  Everywhere I have been… too numerous to share here, I have been able to work.  All I need is my laptop.

A pencil and pad even did the job before.  Freedom is just one benefit that you can gain from writing.

Another is income.   Writing has brought me both farms, free and clear… plus a lot more.

Another good example is my friend Hugh Howey.  He was working for $10 an hour in a book store when he self published his novel Wool, typing in a storage room during his lunch breaks.  Soon he was earning over $100,000 a month on Amazon.com.  This helped secure a six-figure book deal from Simon & Schuster, and an option for film by Ridley Scott, director of Blade Runner and Alien.

Hugh Howey

Sometimes Hugh and I get together at my  farm and play chess (he beats me badly).

Writers like High are great inspirations.

A couple of years ago Hugh  left Florida, and moved to South Africa.  He had a sailing catamaran built for him and now can sail the world while he continues to write.

Hugh explained it like this: And that’s the miracle of working as a writer: I can do it from anywhere and everywhere. The past few years, I’ve done a lot of writing from airplanes and airports while on business trips abroad.  SAND was entirely written overseas while traveling through seven different countries; I think it’s a better story because of those inspirations. In upcoming years, I may be writing near your home port.

Hugh’s a super star writer and his success could not happen to a more deserving and talented person.  He pours enormous energy into being worthy of his readership.  But you do not have to be a million dollar a year earner or a traveler to benefit from writing.

The good news is… you do not need a huge success to have a rich and fulfilled lifestyle.  Self Publishing can bring you a life that most people only dream of, as a journeyman writer, instead of a super star.

May I hastily add that the path to stardom begins as a journeyman… so the journeyman’s path brings success without stardom… but can also lead to stardom.

What most success stories like Hugh’s rarely explain is the many hours of writing that was devoted before their self published book sales soared.   Hugh, like me and most writers were journeymen first.  Stardom came later.

Here are sevens secrets that can help you become a journeyman writer.

The secrets are a writer’s armory of tools that allows almost anyone to create successful publications for income, freedom and fulfillment.

Take Merri’s and my publishing business as an example.

Merri and I are not writing stars.  We are journeymen who have for more than 40 years, year in and year out, earned solid income writing and self publishing dozens of publications about multiple subjects.

Some years that income has been more than solid… over a million dollars.  Yet in terms of stardom, we are hardly known.

In a moment you’ll see why that’s fine for us and probably will be for you too.

First some history.

Merri became involved in self publishing over 40 years ago… first helping a veterinarian publish a book on a very specific market… animal acupuncture. Then she showed a needle point artist how to sell more books to an even more specific audience… “needle point enthusiasts”  about her needle point work to an audience larger than the population of the city she lived in.  This led Merri to eventually become Executive Editor of an award winning magazine in Florida.

My story allowed Merri and me to work and live from Hong Kong to London to Europe to Eastern Europe, then the Caribbean and then Ecuador… making millions in the process of following our adventures… having fun… while helping a large readership adapt to a rapidly changing world.

That’s what self publishing can bring, profit, adventure and fulfillment, a great feeling of worth and wonder.

Self Publishing has created exactly the lifestyle we desire allowing us to span the world and work with meaning and purpose.

Self Publishing has become a new business art form.

The seven secrets can help you start your own self publishing business now.

Everything in publishing is new and exciting and changing.  Publishing is being recreated by the wonderful power of destructive technology.

Everything is new… except the seven secrets.

Change in the publishing industry is disturbing many.   We love this evolution due to these seven secrets we call the 7Ps.  The 7 Ps are so fundamental to writing and publishing that new technology enhances rather than reduces their power.

The First P is Passion.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it AND create income with self publishing.  This can be your direct ticket to the kind of fulfillment you’ve always wanted.

Whether you want to travel the world or live as a recluse, work 12 hours a day or not work much at all,  you can set your schedule to succeed, if you’re willing to learn these seven secrets.

You can start part-time with any dream, passion, and budget.  Once you’ve created a product, you’ll enjoy the “multiple effect” of producing profits over and over again.

So the question is… What do you love to do?

What’s Your Passion:  An example is that thirty years ago, a client of Merri’s had a passion to help people who were in pain?  He published a series of pamphlets explaining various chiropractic disorders in very simple terms.  For example: “What Is Whiplash?”

The pamphlets contained solid information, but were simple 5″ x 7″ brochures with drawings and explanations. He sold them with a rack to chiropractors, who put them in their offices for patients to read.  These little self-published items sold year in and year out for decades.

There are thousands of ideas of this sort that can lead to big business.  It’s just a matter of defining and then acting on your passion.

Although I can work when I please and go where I wish, for me the most important reason for being a publisher is the satisfaction it brings.

I love the projects I take on, so work doesn’t feel like, well… work.

What do you love?  If you love golf, then you can write and sell publications about golf.  Love travel, fishing, dogs, dolls, or art?  Write and sell publications in these fields.

Are you concerned about crime, war, poverty or environmental issues?  You can publish information products that help reduce these concerns.

Would you like to help the world be a more spiritual place?  Publish a newsletter, write a book (or hire someone to write it for you), record a tape… publish something that enlightens people.

Whatever your passion, you can immerse yourself in it and earn income by publishing for ereaders, print on demand, CDs, lists, bound books, or any format you choose.

Be immersed in your passion and get paid well for it.

This is why stardom is not the main goal for most writers and self publishers.  Extra income, more freedom and fulfillment are usually more than enough enough.

The seven Ps are:

#1: Passion

#2: Problem

#3: Person

#4: Profitably Priced Product

#5: Prospecting Pathway

#6: Promise

#7: Presentation

The first time I exposed others to the secrets in Self Publishing was in a weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.  We offered the camp for $1,500. 80 delegates enrolled.  People from all walks of life attended—chiropractors, businessmen, investors, doctors, realtors, inventors, airline pilots, engineers, and housewives.

Merri and I were so overwhelmed by the response, we decided to make it available to a larger audience.  We created a written course based on our current self publishing activity called “Self Fulfilled – How to be a Self Publisher.”  Then we recorded the weekend “Writer’s Camp” seminar.

Thousands have used the course as it has evolved over the decades.

You can receive both the written course and the recorded weekend seminar, in an MP3 file, in a special “Live Well and Free Anywhere” program I am making available to you.  The normal fee is $299 for the written course and $299 for the recorded workshop.   I’ll send you both the course and the recorded workshop and my course “International Business Made EZ (also $299) all for $299.  You save $598.

We are so confident that you’ll gain from this offer that if you are not fully satisfied, simply email us within 60 days for a full refund .

These courses are not theoretical.  They describe, step-by-step, how Merri and I built a million-dollar international business and how we are running this self publishing business right now.   We use the 7Ps today just as we did four decades ago to create a strong annual income.

This correspondence course is for those who would like their own international self publishing micro business for fun and profit. If you want fun, freedom, extra income and fulfillment with your own full or part time writing or want to build your existing business, by writing to sell you can profit from this course.  The course can help who want their own business or who want to have a business together or a family business.  This is the perfect course for those who can no longer find employment, who are looking for ways to earn abroad and who wish to retire and supplement their income.

Whether you are retired, an investor, chiropractor, doctor, dentist, professional or already own your own business, this offers another way to make money, to turn your passion into profit. We guarantee that we have shared all we know to help you start and run your own international business.  Enjoy and live a life of following your Passion to Profit… through writing.

Here is a special offer.

We provide two emailed courses  “Self Fulfilled – How to Write to Sell and be a Self Publisher” and “International Business Made EZ”.

We include the “Self Fulfilled Writing and Self Publishing Course” because there are two reasons to write, when you have something to say or when you have something to sell.  In this day and age many of us want to do both, make a statement that makes the world a better place and earn something extra in the process.

Whatever your passion, however you do business, chances are you’ll be writing either to create a product or to sell a product.

You save more than $598 because you also receive a recorded webinar conducted by our webmaster David Cross (at no extra cost).

Ecuador Natural Health

Water and gravity play important roles in Ecuador’s natural health philosophy.

Once long ago, I wrote about health in the Andes:

Evening mists rose like white smoke from the dense jungle in tiny cyclones of purity that masked the deep green below. Evening shadows played purple harmonies on sharp angles in a distant mountain ridge while bird songs carried cosmic visions of nature’s perfect order in their tunes. A sun warmed breeze rose from the valley with pungent tales of life and death and the mystic reality of life’s richness in the setting sun.

At that time Merri and I had just returned from living at our Ecuador Andean plantation, Rosaspamba.

I included this picture of our front yard at Rosaspamba:

ecuador-health

The view is spectacular but this photo is significant because the first Ecuador health tip is to use water for better health.  The picture of our front yard is significant because it shows…

ecuador-health

the mists.

The year we lived at Rosaspamba with the Taita Yatchak was an El Nino year… so it rained almost continually.  The Yatchack had us walk in the mists every morning… take a cold shower (there was no electricity so this was not hard) and then dry in the cool open air.

He believed that the negative ions in the mists absorbed free radicals and cleansed us from the outside in.

This was cold but invigorating and refreshing.

Excepts below from an article “Five health benefits of cold water swimming” that our son Jake sent us suggest that immersion in cold water is a health benefit as well.

Jake and I believe in cold water immersion. Here we are one winter in our North Carolina creek!

ecuador-health

Here is the excerpt: If you had to assign one attribute to the kind of people who jump into ice-encrusted lakes for fun, it would probably be: weird. But, if pushed for a second, I bet it would be: healthy.

Overweight, lethargic, bad skin, thin hair. These are not adjectives often associated with those crazy cold water enthusiasts. Try: athletic, youthful and toned with good complexions and lots of energy. So, what’s their secret? What are the real health benefits of regular exposure to cold water and are they available to normal people without masochistic tendencies?

1. Boosts your immune system. For your body, a sudden and drastic change in temperature constitutes an attack – as anyone who’s ever fallen overboard in British waters will concur. And, whilst “attacking” your own body may not sound like a good thing, there is no harm in keeping it on its toes.  In fact, quite the opposite.

Scientists from the Czech Republic immersed witting subjects in cold water for one hour, three times a week and monitored their physiology. They found significant increases in white blood cell counts and several other factors relating to the immune system. This was attributed to the cold water being a mild stressor which activates the immune system and gives it some practice.

2. For an all-natural high

. Winter swimmers talk a lot about the ‘high’ they get from cold water – a feeling of wellbeing that’s so encompassing that it becomes quite addictive (who doesn’t want to feel truly good, at least once a day?). The cause? Endorphins.

Endorphins are the body’s natural pain killers and, in the case of a cold dip, it uses them to take the sting away from your skin. So, to get high on your own supply, all you need to do is jump in a river.

3. Gets your blood pumping
. Being hot brings blood to surface. Being cold sends it to your organs. Both extremes work your heart like a pump. That’s why the whole sit in the sauna, roll in the snow, sit in the sauna thing makes people glow. But why is increased blood flow good for you?

Well, it helps flush your circulation for starters, pushing blood through all your capillaries, veins and arteries.

4. Improves your sex life .
The suggestion of a cold shower might bring forth images of hot-headed young men trying to quell wanton urges but research paints a different picture.

In a study with a similar format to the one described above, participants took daily cold baths and were monitored for changes. In addition to some similar results to their Czech counterparts, these researchers also found increased production of testosterone and estrogen in men and women respectively.

5.  Burns calories. We all know that swimming is great exercise but there are some extra benefits from doing it in the North Sea that you just won’t get from a warm wade in the Med.

Swimming in cold water will make your body work twice as hard to keep you warm and burn more calories in the process.

See the second Ecuador natural health tip in a moment. First let me remind you that you have just four days left to order fresh Ecuador Christmas roses.  See more on how these fair trade roses are sent to you

We stayed an entire winter in this tiny bit of virgin jungle living with a yatchak and his apprentices.  Ecuador has its ups and downs but one fact never changes.  The Andes at the equator has special energy.  You can feel it. You can even see it on the scales. You weigh less on the equator because of the earth’s centrifugal force. This aspect of Ecuador seems to add a special health benefit that brings me to the first important Ecuador health tip that Merri and I often use.

The lymph is one of our body’s most important immune and purification systems and it is driven very much by gravity.   The Shamans place importance on the altered state of gravity for improving health.

This brings me to the rebounder, an excellent health tool for those who don’t want to travel to the equator to have their lymph system cleared. The rebounder is a mini trampoline that is amazingly effective for many health purposes.

Modern science has not been able to identify and label the underlying specifics of gravity. Yet we do know that gravity has a major impact on every aspect of our lives. Our bodies in a way are anti-gravity machines. This universal pull has an influence on the movement of our blood, our lymph, our skin and almost every part of our being.

Trampolines have a profound effect on our bodies because they magnify gravity.

Whatever one does on a trampoline, the exercise is compounded by the leverage gained through the kinetic energy stored in the springs (on the way down). This energy is pushed back through the body (on the way up) and can have enormous health benefits in many ways. Some use rebounders to increase strength, (every exercise on a trampoline gives you extra effect because of this leverage), but many including Merri and me use it just to exercise our lymph systems. This requires only 12 minutes a day of the lightest bouncing (your toes should not even leave the trampoline..just let your heels gradually bounce up and down). Even this light movement magnified by the springs pushes your body from zero gravity (at the top) to 2 g’s (at the bottom). This motion moves the lymph along and strengthens the body’s ability to keep the lymph moving to enhance the immune system.

There are few ways you can gain such a concentrated health benefit for just 12 minutes a day.  I first learned about rebounders more than a decade ago when reading the book the “New Miracles of Rebound Exercise” by Al Carter, which I understand has now sold over a million copies. There are dozens of books on the benefits of rebounding ranging from weight loss to muscle tone to curing cancer.  Links to details about this book and 20 others about rebounding are below.

A simple easy lymphatic cleansing bounce does not require much expense.  Merri and I purchased our rebounder at Wal Mart and it has lasted for years.

If you are going to do more than a simple lymphatic bounce, I recommend reading some books on the subject, or speaking with your health care provider  as trampolines provide leverage.  This means that good moves are better, but also means that bad moves are worse and the risks of injury could increase.

The third heath tip is to keep the body’s energy clean and in balance. The shamans and yatchaks use water to balance energy. This is at a sacred grotto that delegates on our Ecuador shamanic mingo tours visit.

Merri and I use all these cleansings when in Ecuador. We also use a more computerized western scientific method of working on our energy in the quantum field.

Our long term friend, Bob Shane, provides a computerized daily balancing with a Harmonic Energetic Balancing (HEB) program.  This program uses 3000 informational patterns to help neutralize everyday stresses so that more reserves are available if bigger real stress issues come along.

These informational patterns are enhanced with fractals and affirmations. They help improve body systems energetic balance and to decrease the energetic effect of pathological patterns in  much the same way that Dr. Emoto changes water molecules with intention.

Bob helps each person create his or her own affirmation so it focuses on specific needs and can be flexible changing whenever situations change.

An easy way to describe this might be from the point of view of a prayer (the affirmations and all other patterns) that is being continuously said for them without being diminished by how the person praying feels or their ability to focus; the computer sends the affirmations thousands of times per second – every time the hard disk goes round.   For more details about HEB contact Bob Shane at shanebob@msn.con

Good health is vital for success, everlasting wealth and happiness and these Ecuador health tips can help us thrive.

Ecuador’s Got Milk & Honey

Ecuador is the land of milk and honey for less… really.

In a moment we’ll look at some global investing ideas. Or you can skip Ecuador milk and go directly to Global Investment Thought.

First, how about some raw milk?

ecuador-farm

Our hotel Meson de las Flores makes its own ice cream with fresh raw milk from local diaries, plus they…

ecuador-food

make and press their own fresh butter.

Our health is enhanced with raw milk and in Ecuador raw milk is easy to obtain. We get it for the hotel every day. The cost is about 45 cents a quart, delivered fresh daily from the local dairy.

In the US, it’s a task.  To get it in North Carolina, we have to buy it from a friend of a friend who will not say who produces the raw milk.

In Florida I noticed a health food store selling raw milk and raw organic yogurt labeled “for pet use only.”   We used to buy our French salt in a similar way “for deer licks only”!

How sad that informed adults have to play such games to get what is good that they want.

There is very little raw milk sold in America and this is sad as it’s a highly health-promoting food. The government story is that raw milk can carry disease. More to the point pasteurizing milk extends shelf life and makes it easier for big business to be more profitable.

One can become sick from any contaminated food as the nation has learned from meat, spinach and peanut butter all to well.

In California where raw milk can be sold, millions have consumed it without a single person getting sick. During the same period, there were many instances where people became so ill from pasteurized milk they died!

Raw milk provides minerals, beneficial bacteria such as lactobacillus acidolphilus, vitamins and enzymes and in Ayurved is considered one of the best foods there is. Pasteurized non organic milk is viewed as poison as the process changes the structure of the milk proteins and destroys the milk’s beneficial bacteria.

Pasteurized cow’s milk has been associated with intestinal distress, iron-deficiency anemia, allergies, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease, cancer and more.

ecuador-farming

With so much sun and plenty of rain, the grass is rich, even in Cotacachi at 7,500 feet altitude for…

these organic cows.

Raw Milk Delight

One great food made from raw milk was taught to Merri and me by a shaman here in Ecuador. I call it Sun Yogurt. Get raw milk. Boil it. Let it cool. Pour it in a green bottle. Add a bit of yogurt if you wish. Set it in the sun for the day. That night you will have a rich creamy almost custard yogurt! It’s rich and delicious.

In Ecuador we buy fresh, raw milk by the pail full… creamy to make our own butter, ice cream and yogurt.

There is great fresh, non fermented (queso fresco) cheese in the markets.

Nearby our hotel there is also organic dairy and Swiss cheese factory. Here is the barnyard and…

Ecuador also has really great honey that creates some export income opportunity… like this honey and Macadamia nuts offered by the Ecuador Honey Company. We”ll look at this in more detail in tomorrow’s message.

Global Investment Thought

Jyske Global Asset Management’s recent update points out what is becoming obvious… the global economy is picking up.  JGAM said:

*  The Case-Shiller U.S. home price index rose for the second month in a row in June.

* The German IFO business confidence survey came in above expectations, rising for a fifth month in a row.

* Australia’s leading economic indicators continue to suggest a broad recovery over the coming months.

* BCA’s (Bank Credit Analyst) Global Inflation Diffusion Index highlights that most components are falling. Furthermore, inflation typically responds to fluctuations in growth with a 1-1½ year lag, and this time around there is greater slack in the global economy.

In other words, the economy is recovering and inflation is down.

The immediate risks are that traditionally September and October are the most dangerous months for the US stock market.   Signs of a double dip recession coinciding with the traditional market dip could create a new wave of self fulfilling fear.

This will create a good buying opportunity both in equities and real estate.

What’s a Double Dip?

I rarely allow myself to eat ice cream but recently while visiting grand kids, we took them to a Creamery and can attest to the fact that a Sweet Cream and Chocolate double dip on a waffle cone is,  taste wise, pretty darn good.

Double Dips in the global economy do not bode so well, however.

A recession is a time of economic contraction and have always been followed by a return to economic expansion.  However once in awhile when economic distortions that are being sorted out are severe, when the expansion finally starts, it does not continue.   The economy contracts and dips back into recession again.

Economies now are improving globally.  Yet unemployment and foreclosures remain a problem.  Later this year  a second “double dip” recession could return as it did in 1980, then again in  1981-82.

Current conditions are quite different now than in the early 1980s, the 1980-1983 downturn was eventually turned around with major federal spending and a major tax cut.

The period 2007-2010 cannot expect the tax cut which is a shame because Federal spending tends to be less efficient than tax cuts, Federal spending is usually inefficient. Tax cuts stimulate business and inroads into new forms of productivity.

Stock markets tend to do well (as they are now) in the middle of recessions. During the worst of all 1930s depression, the Dow rose 66.7 percent in 1933 and 38.5 percent in 1935. This is because big value oriented investors look ahead.  Eventually economies recover and  grow. This is when value investors cash in.

Yet the poor employment scenario suggests that the equity recovery could be modest.  If this fact teams up with the nervousness acquired in 2008 and the autumnal downward forces… the most likely time for a market set back will be September and October.

With this in mind… values are good now for investors who can afford to buy and ride through another downturn that could last a year or so.

Until next message, may all you life be rich and delicious.

Ecuador Sanctuary

Here is a shot taken from the front yard of our Ecuador sanctuary in the Andes.

andean-sanctuary

This land is part of a cloud forest and we are often truly above the clouds!

andean-sanctuary

Many valleys in Ecuador are famous for the longevity of the residents. Our search for such valleys led us to understand that we can use more than landscape to live better, richer and longer.

This article was written on May 2, 2009, on the 41st anniversary of starting my international business.  Yet I plan to keep writing and sharing information for 41 more years!

This was more than an idle boast.  The promise was made from a belief and understanding that  began to grow when we first arrived  in Ecuador and began searching for the longevity valleys there.

That longevity search an Ecuadorian  Taita Yatchak (Shaman of the highest learning) who told us there was an unoccupied valley with special healing powers.

He offered to take us there.  (More on why below).

Here is Merri and me with the Taita Yatchak after purifying in a sacred spring in preparation for the trip into the Ecuador longevity valley.

Ecuador-longevity

We invited friends and started our journey at 4:30 a.m.  hiking from 10,500 feet, to 14,000 feet. Here we are getting ready to go.

Ecuador-Longevity

After hours of climbing we descended 4,000 feet down a hidden, mud, animal trail for three hours into a virtually impenetrable cloud forest, ripped by thorns, cut by razor grass, soaked, and caked in mud.

Here we are ready to descend.

Ecuador-longevity

And here we are in the cloud forest during  the descent.

Ecuador-longevity

By the time we arrived in the valley, it was just minutes before dark. We were fatigued by the high altitude, bone weary from our packs, every muscle aching from fighting all day with the sucking mud (which had regularly pulled off our boots).

We stayed in a floorless, leaky thatch hut, sleeping on dirt, no heat except the cooking fire, no running water, no nothing. The next morning, to our surprise we all felt and looked  wonderful! Those who had been injured had no sign of the injuries. We explored the valley which is perpetually wrapped in mist and fog. We swam in small icy, deep blue lagoons and did ancient exercises while the Taita Yatchak talked with us. We were continually cold, wet, dirty and cramped-all 12 of us in this tiny hut with its earthen floor.

I cannot describe how we felt except to say none of us had ever had so much fun and had such a sense of well-being.

There is something about the valley I cannot yet explain. Even at times when we were really worried about some of the party who had gone into shock from fatigue, there was never a moment of regret.

We discovered a magical quality to this Sacred Valley and even over a decade and a half after our return have found powerful emotional and physical evolutions happening to all of us. Merri and I, along with the others, feel physically stronger, more alert, more positive, more active and yet more serene than ever before in our lives.

After this journey we purchased the 962 acre Hacienda Rosaspamba and lived and studied there for nearly a year with the Taita Yatchak and his apprentices.

Ecuador-longevity

Here is another shot at Rosaspamba of one of the yatchak’s apprentices.

Living in a healthy place like Rosaspamba can help longevity.  More important is the fact that one can have longevity anywhere.  We discovered this at our other sanctuary in the Blue Ridge Mountains where we also live.  The family cemetery on our farm has five headstones with people aged 86, 91, 95, 100 and 115 at death.

The 115 year old lived from 1794 to 1909. I  wonder what type of medical insurance she had… back here in these hills. Here is that cemetery.

Health-Savings-Longevity

Merri and I have studied global health secrets for decades and have lived with healing masters from China, Tibet, the Andes and India to learn that it is not only where you live.. but how you live that creates longevity.

ecuador-longevity

Mountain mists are important to longevity.  One Ecuador shaman taught us that the hydrogen ions in the mists bond with free radicals on the skin to cleanse the body from the outside in.

Longevity does not come from quadruple bypasses, pacemakers, chemo, radiation and all the modern drugs so many people use.

Up here in these mountains people in decades and centuries past labored, breathed clean air, drank pure water and ate fresh food. These were hardy mountain people who worked hard, had little, ate little and with that made the most. Life was simple and they kept it that way. Longevity was their reward.

Now is the time to be thinking about longevity.

Many of us work so hard to build financial security then lose it through lingering illness or even worse death, heart attacks – stress, diabetes -bad diet, cancer – over-aggression created by the effort.

ecuador-longevity

Good water is important to longevity. This is a mineral thermal springs near Cotacachi Ecuador that we visit for a soak on our Ecuador shamanic mingo tours.

Does this lifestyle make sense?

The answer, “No, it does not make sense” led Merri and me, many years ago, to sell our home in Old Naples, Florida, leave the stressful city and move here to our secluded Blue Ridge farm and Andean plantation.

We have learned that there are many simple secrets to longevity.  They are harder to use in busy cities.

Here are three secrets we gain from untold hours shared with clients and friends who are expert in all types of healing. These secrets come from years of experience with disciplines like acupuncture (when I first lived in Hong Kong) when they were still considered witchcraft in the Western world, and from our years of living with healers from India, Tibet and the Andes.

I share these as a layman, but one who has watched his weight melt from 220 to 150 pounds. They are shared by a 62 year old male with a pulse of 99 over 60 something and a resting heartbeat in the low 60s whose energy and stamina is high.

The secrets are not shared just to stop you from getting sick either. They are to help you have more stamina, vitality, energy, endurance as well as longevity so you can enjoy life more!

The first secret is not a secret at all, but a simple reality that most ignore.

Restrict your diet. Cut down your caloric intake. This is the only factor that I have studied that has been scientifically supported. Plus the residents in the three valleys where National Geographic documented extra longevity had caloric intakes ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 calories a day.

For example in Vilcabamba (one of Ecuador’s longevity valleys) over one person per thousand lived to be 100. In the U.S. the figure is one per 33,000! The average caloric intake in this valley (in the past) was about 1,200 calories a day.

Secret #2 is to have more than a routine.

Create ritual! Those who live extraordinarily long lives seem to share this common trait. Whatever they do they do in moderation, in a very similar way and with great gusto. For example, if they drink an ounce of whisky every day, at six o’ clock, they do not do this at five some days and eight others. They do not have a half ounce one day and two another. They tend to have one ounce at six p.m. every day. This instills discipline, keeps life simple (very important) and allows the body to get used to doing whatever it is it has to do. Take Chris Mortensen one of the oldest documented men in the 1990s who at 113 said of his weekly cigar, “If you take my weekly cigar away from I am going to die”. The anticipation and ritual of whatever pleasure he receives from this is far more life giving than the stress. The world’s oldest documented woman in the 1990s, Jeanne Clement, at age 122 drank cognac and ate a pound of chocolate a week (but never two).

Secret #3 is to remain independent, challenged, active and needed. One of the most important features that was found in every valley where people lived long lives was that old age was revered. Often people at age 100, even 110 are still active and working! Max Zimmer of Los Angeles came to the US from Austria in 1911 with only a two dollar bill. At age 103 he still had the same two-dollar bill and had built and still ran a multimillion-dollar business. One MD, who specializes in anti aging, points out that most centenarians seldom spend much time with doctors. When they finally get sick, they die quickly and with little expense. They depend on themselves to remain healthy not others. Having a good savings and investment plan for old age is also an important factor to remaining independent. Are any of these factors in your routine and plans? Most of us have to answer “no”.

This is why Merri and I moved to our farm in North Carolina and Ecuador and have worked at instilling these simple formulas (and many others) into our lives.

We live in a rapidly evolving, often frantic and polluted world. Escape from the crowds may help longevity a bit.  However escape from bad lifetsyle habits helps longevity even more.  Merri and I look forward to sharing the longevity habits we learn with you.

Ecuador & Longevity

Ecuador is known for the longevity of many of its residents.

National Geographic published a great article, “Every Day Over 100 is a Gift” that outlined how and why residents in some Ecuador valleys like Vilcabamba live much longer (up to 130 years) than in the West.

vilcabamba-ecuador-back-yard

View of Vilcabamba from Club Hacienda el Atillo , Resort and Spa.

Yesterday’s message Ecuador and global investing pointed out that May 2, 2009 was the 41st anniversary of my investing and working globally.  That message ended with my plans for sharing the next 41 years with you.

Don’t Believe it?

62? Plus 41?  103? Could this be true?  I have a great grandparent (from Wales) who lived to 106, so why not?

Expecting to live long (I mean really expecting) makes it is more likely that you will. One of the greatest health risks we have is buying into the social myth that we should retire at age 65.

Every ancient text of wisdom suggests that 50 years of age is the midpoint… the time when life becomes more spiritual, wiser and that we have 50 or  more years to go.  If you are Biblical try rereading the book of Leviticus.

I believe this.  Below you’ll see  someone who agrees!

How will you look when you are 97?

ecuador-longevity

This is a photo of Shigeaki Hinohara this year at age 97.  The photo was taken from an article at japantimes.co.jp entitled WORDS TO LIVE BY Author/physician Shigeaki Hinohara by Judit Kawaguchi.

Here is an excerpt from that article (the address for the entire article is at the end of this message).

At the age of 97 years and 4 months, Shigeaki Hinohara is one of the world’s longest-serving physicians and educators. Hinohara’s magic touch is legendary: Since 1941 he has been healing patients at St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo and teaching at St. Luke’s College of Nursing.

Always willing to try new things, he has published around 150 books since his 75th birthday, including one “Living Long, Living Good” that has sold more than 1.2 million copies. As the founder of the New Elderly Movement, Hinohara encourages others to live a long and happy life, a quest in which no role model is better than the doctor himself.

Energy comes from feeling good, not from eating well or sleeping a lot. We all remember how as children, when we were having fun, we often forgot to eat or sleep. I believe that we can keep that attitude as adults, too. It’s best not to tire the body with too many rules such as lunchtime and bedtime.

All people who live long — regardless of nationality, race or gender — share one thing in common: None are overweight. For breakfast I drink coffee, a glass of milk and some orange juice with a tablespoon of olive oil in it. Olive oil is great for the arteries and keeps my skin healthy. Lunch is milk and a few cookies, or nothing when I am too busy to eat. I never get hungry because I focus on my work. Dinner is veggies, a bit of fish and rice, and, twice a week, 100 grams of lean meat.

Always plan ahead. My schedule book is already full until 2014, with lectures and my usual hospital work. In 2016 I’ll have some fun, though: I plan to attend the Tokyo Olympics!

There is no need to ever retire, but if one must, it should be a lot later than 65.

Share what you know.

When a doctor recommends you take a test or have some surgery, ask whether the doctor would suggest that his or her spouse or children go through such a procedure.

To stay healthy, always take the stairs and carry your own stuff.

My inspiration is Robert Browning’s poem “Abt Vogler.” My father used to read it to me. It encourages us to make big art, not small scribbles. It says to try to draw a circle so huge that there is no way we can finish it while we are alive. All we see is an arch; the rest is beyond our vision but it is there in the distance.

Pain is mysterious, and having fun is the best way to forget it.

Don’t be crazy about amassing material things. Remember: You don’t know when your number is up, and you can’t take it with you to the next place.

Science alone can’t cure or help people.

Life is filled with incidents. On March 31, 1970, when I was 59 years old, I boarded the Yodogo, a flight from Tokyo to Fukuoka. It was a beautiful sunny morning, and as Mount Fuji came into sight, the plane was hijacked by the Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction. I spent the next four days handcuffed to my seat in 40-degree heat. As a doctor, I looked at it all as an experiment and was amazed at how the body slowed down in a crisis.

Find a role model and aim to achieve even more than they could ever do.

It’s wonderful to live long. Until one is 60 years old, it is easy to work for one’s family and to achieve one’s goals. But in our later years, we should strive to contribute to society. Since the age of 65, I have worked as a volunteer. I still put in 18 hours seven days a week and love every minute of it.

These are some great tips and Hinohara is proof of the pudding that we can improve our chances of longevity anywhere!

“For years and years I have searched for truly like- minded people to play with and work with… people who are deeply and honestly SPIRITUAL.”  J.M. Texas

ecuador-longevity

Longevity comes in safe places were even small children like this Andean girl are allowed freedom from crime day and night.

Here is another rave from a delegate:

“People who, among other things, are active and productive and creative and resourceful, whose word can be counted upon; People who realize that spirituality DOES NOT mean sitting in a cave contemplating your navel and weaving baskets, nor does it equate in the Western culture with living in abject poverty. People who realize that abundance is not a dirty word. People who understand that we are here to ENGAGE life, not to submit to circumstances out of fear and ignorance and apathy; People who don’t just use the most current “buzz words” so they can feel like they are part of the group, but who actually DO something… Builders. Thank you for showing up in my life.” E.W. Nevada

“The life path altering effects from the weekend with you and Merri continue. Thank you again. I have begun to change my diet. Bless you! “ D.B. Connecticut

Knowing who supplies your food is important to longevity… as are places of person to person commerce, like these markets we visit on our Ecuador Shaman tour.

Here is what another delegate said.

“You are indeed a spiritual pioneer, blending disciplines to create tools and resources for success in this new land of opportunity. Anyone who thinks this is just all about money is missing the real message: This is about life in its most profound implications.” W.P. Australia

Having sources of fresh food, like this Cotacachi Ecuador corn field, nearby is good for longevity.

Here is another endorsement:

I want to thank you for the wonderful time. I traveled from California to hear you convey your knowledge in the way you do so well, and I wasn’t disappointed. The amount of information in the sessions was almost overwhelming, but it’s exactly what I went to hear. When I try to engage intelligent, educated people on these subjects here at home, I usually get a blank look or “That’s interesting, but why are you thinking about that? “The setting at the farm felt like we were all sitting in the den after dinner discussing things among friends. The relaxed atmosphere seemed to encourage people to participate, asking pointed questions and relating personal experiences. The international flavor and attitude of the group was very stimulating, particularly when we split up into discussion groups. Those groups, taking walks together, allowed us to get to know each other on a personal level. Anyway, what I’m trying to say is, that’s the most fun I’ve had for four days straight in along time! Thanks again.” B.R. California

Longevity and living in harmony with nature go hand in hand.  Here is a humming bird in Cotacachi. Ecuador has one of the largest bird diversities in the world.

One more comment from a delegate:

“A special warm ‘thank you’ to Merri for the wonderful cooking and the ‘feel at home atmosphere!’ I like to give a few comments about the past weekend.. It was relaxing, inspiring, informative and a spiritually balanced atmosphere with all these different, same thinking, like people. The technical information I gathered was most not new to me, but I like to compliment you for putting it all in the right perspective and to make it very understandable to all. What was a tour opinion one of the most important gaining of these 3 days is the opening of the new world, this new circle of what you call “normal” people! (I call us ‘not normal’ as a matter of respect to the majority. ) But as we know, all is relative and depends at the point of view of each, His spiritual mind and his opinion about the senses of our being.”

Ecuador Amazon Herbal Tour

Ecuador’s Amazon is rich in herbs  as you’ll learn on our Ecuador Amazon Herbal Tour, May 22-24, 2009.

Enroll here $399.  Enroll here for a couple $499

Studying Ecuador herbs is fun.

You see them regularly in Native Ecuador markets are ancient rites of human endeavor. Meetings like this one high in the Ecuador Andes have taken place almost since civilization began as have imports and exports. I closed my eyes and felt the energy, the deep, inner excitement that marketplaces bring and how they thrill. Such wonderful agitation! Ecuadorian men and women, different religions, cultures and ages. People from near and far. Explosions of color. Mutterings and hawking in Quichua, Spanish, and occasional English working their babble of exchange. Ecuadorian babies bobbing on mother’s backs, children working, playing and racing among the stalls. Adults serious in their cares. Explosions of sights, smells and sounds create this purposeful cacophony true to only one mission, to trade and sell, import, export!

Exploring the markets is a great way to see Amazon herbs but the best way to know them is to actually visit the marker.

So for years we have been helping readers go to the Amazon and learn how they are actually grown.

Alberto Verdezoto (a long term friend and guide as well as an expert on herbal medicine from the Amazon) will guide a tour to the Amazon and the Flora Sana finca this May.

Here is Alberto leading one of our tours.

You could not be in better hands.  Alberto was in the Ecuador travel business for more than 10 years and has been working in the Amazon with herbs for many years. He is the distributor for the Flora Sana Amazon products.

Here is Alberto (left) leading our staff at International Living’s Ecuador seminar in March.

Alberto helped develop  the entire line of organic Amazon health products to export from Ecuador under the “Flora Sana” (Flower Healing) brand.

Ecuador Herbal Products

Stimusan Herb Pack
Dulcamara Cream
Dulcamara Liquid
Dulcamara Shampoo
Dulcamara Soap
Sweet Sleep
Sangria Drago
Organic Chocolate

There are many more Ecuador export products in the Flora Sana line.

We are working with Alberto to obtain dealers for these products.

This line has special interest in the health food supplement field. Take the Dulcamaras range for example.

Merri and I have enormous energy vitality and enthusiasm, running the farm and our publishing business. Many are amazed at what we get done. At a time when many are thinking retirement, we feel we are just getting started. Plus despite our heavy work load and travel schedule we seem to be getting younger…yet this is a time when many of our friends are rapidly deteriorating both in energy and appearance.

We feel that one reason is that we regularly take the Dulcamaras food supplement which is a pure Amazonian plant extract. When we began using this product years ago, one MD told us that he used this plant extract to help his cancer patients. The doctor explained that Dulcamaras is not a cancer cure but so enhances the immune system that many patients cure themselves. He explained that many of his patients also used Dulcamaras to enhance their vitality and that it has anti-aging qualities that could be enjoyed.

We decided to try it ourselves. After a couple of days we felt tiredness but then found ourselves feeling more energy. My weight started dropping. Muscle mass and skin tone built though we did not add any new exercises.

We began sharing Dulcamaras extract years ago with a few of our friends and heard back similar stories from those who were well. From others we heard incredible stories.

We read a medical study from the University of Miami Medical School entitled “INDUCTION OF CASPASE-MEDIATED APOPTOSIS AND INHIBITION OF PROSTATE TUMOR GROWTH AND METASTASIS BY A PLANT EXTRACT”.

The study was done by Deven S. Dandekar1*, Vinata B. Lokeshwar1, Edwin Cevallos. 2, and Bal L. Lokeshwar1. 1Dept. of Urology and Sylvester Cancer Center, Univ. of Miami, Miami, Fl. 2Tumor Institute, Quito, Ecuador. *d.dandekar@miami.edu

The study began “INTRODUCTION: Most cancer drugs are derived from plants and many more are yet to be discovered (1). An orally active, aqueous plant extract (Dulcamara sp) was tested for its anti-tumor properties on prostate cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.”

The conclusion of that study was that the Dulcamaras extract tested was a potent orally active anti-neoplastic agent, which primarily affects caspase-mediated apoptosis and inhibits metastasis by inhibition of hyaluronidase, an ECM-degrading enzyme implicated in tumor angiogenesis and metastasis.

We saw one friend with Lymphoma have a miraculous cure in 18 days. Another who was quadriplegic with MS had such a recovery that she can now stand alone. But mostly the stories were about feeling better, having more energy, sex drive, clearer mind, strength, endurance and feeling and looking younger.

Dulcamaras has great potential to be of assistance in diseases in which the immune system is implicated as a contributing factor. The medical doctor in Ecuador has gathered data which indicates possible value in conditions of over active and under active immune system such as AIDS, Allergic States, Colitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Chronic Hepatitis, and Lupus like diseases.

We do not believe that Dulcamaras is a panacea and it is not intended to diagnosis, treat or cure any condition nor should it be viewed as a substitute for orthodox medical treatments. But it is a powerful plant-derived nutritional supplement which may safely be used for longevity, more energy and better health plus as a complementary treatment to assist the body’s natural healing processes.

Here is more about Ecuador Dulcamaras Export Opportunity.

Common names: Donkey Ears, Life Plant.

Scientific Name: Kalanchoe gastonis-bonnieri Raym.-Hamet & H. Perrier

Synonym: Bryophyllum gastonis-bonnieri

Family: Crassulaceae

Origin of the Plant:

Kalanchoe or Bryophyllum gastonis bonnieri is originated from Madagascar . It was known and used as a medicine by the ancient Egyptians. The plant was brought to the Amazon during the time of the rubber boom at the end of the 19th century.

The Dulcamara plants used to make Flora Sana natural products are organically grown in their gardens located on the left bank of the Puyo river, next to the Amazonian town of Puyo, the capital of the Pastaza province, in Ecuador. A plant takes 6 to 8 months to mature and be ready for harvest.

The plant is then used to make tinctures and creams.

The Flora Sana Dulcamara Tincture is used here in Ecuador for inflammation of prostate, tumor in ovaries, uterus, brain, kidneys, breast, cysts, leukemia, kidney and gall stones, hemorrhoids, bronchitis, asthma and sinusitis, depressed immune system. Of course it cannot be exported from Ecuador or offered in other countries for these purposes unless it has been approved by relevant authorities.

There has been a study at University of Miami Medical School on the effects of this plant. See http://www.med.miami.edu/mnbws/Dandekar106.html

The Dulcamara Cream is created by blending pure dulcamara water extract with a base cream imported from France. The cream has protective, nourishing and moisturizing properties. A small quantity of essential oil of lavender is added to complement its nutritional properties and therapeutic uses, especially for acne, allergies, burns, diaper rash, and general skin care. The cream can be applied on the face and to all body parts.

The cream is used in Ecuador for burns, allergies, varicose veins and ulcers, diabetic, baldness, warts, vitiligo, acne, pimple, blackhead, wrinkles, hemorrhoids, psoriasis, diaper rash, dermatitis and general skin care. Again this cannot be exported form Ecuador or offered in other countries for these specific purposes.

This is just one of many herbs you’ll learn about because Alberto also works with CORPEI, the Ecuadorian government organization dedicated to developing export opportunities for handicrafters up to big organizations. They approached Alberto to see if he wanted to be involved in an international project to promote the development of businesses and organizations involved with producing and marketing natural products from the Andes and Amazon.

Legends & Success With Nutrition

Anceint lesson can help us have success with nutrition.

While in Finland, Merri and I were introduced to Kalevala, an epic of Finland. The root of the Kalevala is mainly old folk poetry collected over decades by the celebrated scholar, Dr. Elias Lonnrot.

He took many trips in the mid 1800s from Helsinki to isolated villages in the north of Finland and Russia to record by dictation the ancient rune singers and masters of folk incantations and lyrical poems. From these mystic tales, lyric folk poems, wedding poems and incantations, he organized this epic which first appeared in 1835.

The Kalevala tells of a great wise man Vainamoinen, who was a rune singer and leader of his tribe and his friend Ilmarenen a blacksmith who forged the vault of heaven. There was also Lemminkainen, a lady-killer and reckless adventurer, Joukahainene, a Lapp wizard’s apprentice, Kullervo, the son of a slave and strong woman such as Louhi. Part of the story isbuilt on a wonderful singing duel between Joukahainene and Vainamoinen(which becomes a cause for revenge).

If you read this epic you’ll see some remarkable similarities to other ancient scripts.
For example Aino, the virgin of the air, is a divine being who gives birth to Vainamoinen. There is a resurrection in the story when Lemminkainen’s mother brings him back to life with her love.

Reading passages from the Kalevala helped me connect some dots about how to succeed in business as well as other aspects of life.

What were these poems intended to do? Imagine what it meant to be a wiseman five thousand years ago. These ancestors had enormous wisdom but lacked the technology of printing. Sites ranging from the great pyramids in Egypt, Stonehenge in England, the Mayan astronomical sites to Ingapirca in the Andes show that ancients knew the movements of planets and stars to the second. The monuments they built attest to their amazing engineering acumen.

They also understood the quantum science of fractals, (as above, so below). They observed and predicted with great accuracy laws of quantum physics without the aid of microscopes, particle accelerators andsuch. Yet how could they pass this knowledge along?

Mostly the sages wrapped their universal truths in legend, songs and runes. The ancients were wise enough to understand the nature of man. They knew that tunes and rhymes have amazing bonds in our memory!

What better way to pass important information down!

But in what language? Language, context and meaning change as generations pass.

With this thinking, I read this phrase from the Kalevala translated to English.

“Then she spoke the words which follow, And expressed herself in this wise: “O thou bee, thou bird aerial, Fly thou forth again the third time, Fly thou up aloft to heaven, And through the nine heavens fly thou swiftly.”

Many ancient traditions mention the trinity and suggest we are comprised of three elements, air, water and fire.

Here the phrase says, O thou bee aerial. Could this mean you are air. Everything begins with gas or air. For example two gases, (Hydrogen and Oxygen) H2O make water and our solid physical form is mostly water.

The bio electric-magnetic system (fire) that kindles transformation (food to energy, energy to bones, muscle and motion etc.) completes the trinity.

So could the message in the Kalevala be that we should begin everything (including our health regimen) by looking at its lightest, air aspect? This is where all the indigenous life sciences begin, looking at the essence of motion or air in our bodies.

In Ayurveda, the Indian science of life, for example this air element is called Vata and the belief is that all illness begins with an air imbalance.
Ayurved’s main tactic is to keep the gaseous content in our bodies down so we are less likely to become ill. The main way to do this is to eat properly.

The Andeans are fanatical about good digestion also.
Their entire diet is aimed at making digestion easier by avoiding fermentation in the stomach, which creates gas (or too much air).

The philosophy is that such imbalances (if uncorrected) lead to digestive problems. If still uncorrected, digestive problems lead to kidney and liver stress (due to excess toxins created by the poor digestion). The theory goes that if still left unbalanced skin problems follow, as the body tries to evacuate excess toxins through the skin.

If still unchecked, these toxins finally lodge in the body and create real illness. If the toxins lodge in the joints, arthritis and joint type problems can follow. Toxins lodged in the blood vessels, artery and heart ailments can begin. In other places the toxins create cancer and varies other illnesses. In the brain, Alzheimer’s, etc.

There are a variety of easy ways to stop such problems before they start.  Here is a list of easy things to do to improve health.

#1: Eat slowly and in good humor. This is the first line aid to digestion.

#2: Eat natural foods in season. Processed foods, especially those loaded with preservatives, are harder to digest. There are  three growing seasons in each year, spring, summer and fall-winter.  We should have three diets that vary through the year, low calorie-low fat in spring, high carbohydrate in summer and high protein-high-fat in fall-winter. This creates a food supply that fits the body’s requirements as it shifts to adapt to each of these seasons.

The idea is to switch our eating routines naturally.  At the beginning of the switch it’s a good idea to do a bit of internal cleansing at the change of each eating season.

#3: Eat your largest meal at lunch. Eat a light early dinner. Our digestive fires burn brightest between 10 and 2, am and pm. Noon is the best time to digest food. If you eat lightly in the evening, the body’s second digestive period can burn up toxins accumulated from the stress of the day rather than just using this period to digest a big dinner.

#4: Watch the combination of foods eaten. Do not mix two types of fat in a meal. We have all heard of not mixing milk and meat for example. In the Andes Locro (a thick potato soup) is a popular common food. Most people there have it with cheese and avocados, but not the shamans. Mixing these two fats make each harder to digest.

Andeans also avoid mixing sugar and salt. Each meal there is a sweet meal or savory meal. Food is broken into three categories, sweet, neutral and salt. Neutral foods (eggs, unsalted cheese, vegetables, and grains) go with either sweet or salt, but not sweet and salt in the same meal. Several foods should always be eaten alone, bananas, pineapple and melon.

#5: Avoid cold drinks and ice. Cold restricts the blood vessels in the stomach and hinders digestion. Sip warm water instead. This calms air and stimulates digestion.

#6: Take a short leisurely walk after each meal. This stimulates bloodflow and aids digestion.

#7: Reduce caffeine and alcohol. These elements interfere with blood sugar levels and upset the digestive process.

These seven simple steps can dramatically improve your energy, well-being and longevity. They are easy to attain and are balanced steps that can bring more balance in our lives.
