Let’s start with the real estate in Cotacachi. All the pictures above were taken within 20 minutes of one another, The condos we just sold and where we currently live ($39,000 for a studio, $49,000 for 1,200 square foot, three bedroom, two and a half bath units), the crater lake and house being built on it, the market, the carpets at Otavalo are all close. This area is in the middle of one of the most wonderful spots in the world. These pictures were not taken of dreams but are of concrete realities we have helped our readers discover and enjoy right now!
Live Better in Ecuador. Ecuador is also a place where it is also easier to remain healthy. Again, in just the area surrounding Cotacachi there are a variety of health benefits ranging from an incredible array of organic markets (including an organic vineyard and Swiss cheese factory that uses unpasteurized milk).
One can soak in the nearby mineralized, hot waters and natural environment of Chachimbiro Thermal Springs.
A great massage at our hotel costs $15 and there are over a dozen extended health treatments at the Relais and Chateaux rated La Mirage spa just minutes walk from us. All are $75 or less.
For example one treatment is the Shamanic Purification Treatment: The Shamans possess great vision for medicines of the countryside and in particular, for plants used to heal. They are specialists in using elements such as Fire, Water and Earth. La Mirage Spa offers the healing powers of a Shamana who has inherited years of experience from her father a recognized Shaman in this region. The purification room at La Mirage is oriented towards the established indigenous healing practices of Body, Mind and spirit. Taking these concepts into account, her methods blend relaxation techniques using a float tank, the Shamanic Ritual and Aromatherapy Spiritual Massage. This is a 90 minute treatement by Estrella (below) for only $65.
Western health care is very inexpensive. Dentists cost between 15% and 25% of US prices. A typical doctor’s visit will rarely exceeds $15. One American nurse told me that a bag of Ringer’s Lactate in the US cost $400. A bag here with supplements is $8!
Imagine all this located around just one tiny village.
Yet in Ecuador there is so much more. Ecuador is a great place because it sits on the equator which contains a special energy. Ecuador has it all. Beauty, convenience, low cost and opportunity and is unique for many reasons. This is the closest source of direct sunlight 365 days a year to the US (just 3 hours and 45 minutes from Miami). The topography ranges from sea level to over 22,000 feet. Going from the coastal plain into the mountains of Ecuador the bio diversity is the same as going from the equator to the Arctic Circle. Ecuador has it all and has many things that no other place has. For example did you know that trees in Ecuador do not have seasonal rings? There are more species of birds, plants and insects than just about anywhere else. The locals are sweet, welcoming and friendly. There are four regions, Amazon, Andes, coastal plain and the Galapagos. There is such a variety that few can see it all in numerous trips yet it is all compact inexpensive and close to home.”

Natural Geographic named Ecuador one of the top ten adventure destinations for 2007!
