Stop & Hear the Roses

With the coming of a grey winter I started a series on ways to beat the blues.  This is part three of the series.

I’m an expert on beating the blues…

Self taught.

My family has a history of depression.  I had suffered from SAD… might have even be a carrier!

I use numerous bits of ancient health wisdom to escape the blues, maintain high spirits and good natural health.

If you have any tendency toward the blues I recommend reading John Douillard’s Lifespa.com article “Blue Zones Meet Ayurvedic Wisdom” (1).

His article says:  In the best-selling book, “The Blue Zones of Happiness”,  Dan Buettner discovered 9 commonalities shared by centenarian cultures around the world.

Part One looks at how centenarians move easily through life, Part Two, The Power of Purpose.  If you missed them, they are linked below.

This chapter looks at the third commonality, the habit of relaxation.

Downshift! Blue Zone people do not work 60-or 80-hour work weeks, eat in their cars or front of their computers and go, go, go.  They take time each day to socialize, pray, nap and relax.

Ayurveda: Yoga, breathing, meditation and prayer are the numerous ways an Ayurvedic lifestyle embraces the need to downshift, chill, smell the roses and be present.
