Autumn Health Tip #2

Saturday’s message, Autumn Health Tip looked at a healthy pumpkin pie recipe and why pumpkin will soon be better than blackberry pie.

Pumpkin pie in autumn is a food that encourages health from the inside out.

The second autumn health tip is to get rid of heat that has accumulated in the body during the hot summer days.

Mints are good for this. Drinking plenty of water with fresh mint is a good way to cleanse from the inside out.

Peppermint oil is a great cooler on the skin to reduce heat from the outside in.

This is one reason I recommend Candace Newman’s Peppermint Trifecta:

Candace recently wrote this about peppermint oil:

“Celebrate the vibrancy of the Fall Season with us … with the menthol lift of Peppermint! This essential oil is a diamond in the rough. It is a common aroma, yet in its pure essential oil form it is one of the most powerful oils with medicinal and aromatic benefits of good health.

“Join me here to explore some of the many ways to use Peppermint in its straight form, and blended for skin application. John and I created our Peppermint Trifecta Special just for this September.

“The first time I smelled pure Peppermint essential oil was about 1990. I’ll never forget it. It shot to my brain and I thought,  ‘Now THIS is Peppermint!’ I realized what a smell-deprived society we are, lacking pure authentic aromas directly from Nature. It doesn’t get any purer or stronger than essential oils, and Peppermint really brings this home because we are so familiar with the taste and smell of diluted and changed peppermint.

“Through my years of practice I find the most powerful oils are Peppermint (due to head and stomach relief), Lavender (due to stress and burn relief) and Tea Tree (due to bites, and infections relief). Even if one is not interested in Aromatherapy, Peppermint has its place in improving our state of well-being!

“Here is what a Breath Mint Customer wrote: ‘I use the Breath Mint for acid reflux and I get a great deal of relief! It works great for upset stomachs as well. Thanks for your wonderful oils.’ Another says: ‘I use the Breath Mint for my family for sea sickness … last time we had six foot waves.’

“Another said: ‘I use the Peppermint oil when we are on these mountain roads – a big whiff now and then sure does help my tummy and head!’ Another says: ‘Peppermint is a great pick-me up!’ … and … ‘Peppermint on a cotton ball is good for ants.’  Added Note: Many reports tout Peppermint as an insect repellent for mosquitoes, gnats, and ants.

“There are well over 400 essential oils around the globe. Peppermint is one of the top three, along with Lavender and Tea Tree, that warrants a place is everyone’s cabinet of good medicine.

“Pure Peppermint essential oil (Mentha piperita) is well known in the pharmaceutical world for its antibacterial, antispasmodic, stomachic and analgesic properties. The French pharmacies sell ‘menthol sticks’ to apply to painful areas.

“Peppermint is one of the essential oils referred to as adaptogenic. I call it ‘calm vitality’. A little can be calming and a lot can be stimulating. Its menthol qualities make it cooling and warming at the same time.

“What a gift from nature. Held in little oil glands on its leaves, and extracted by steam distillation, this plant gives us its most precious liquid. It is one of the few essential oils produced in large quantities in the USA.

“Peppermint is used to relieve: (1) headaches and loggy head feelings, (2) stomach aches and digestion issues, (3) sinus, cold, and flu illnesses (4) fatigue and low energy, (5) nausea and motion sickness.

“To relieve any of these conditions, Peppermint can be used in the following ways: (1) inhalation right from the bottle, (2) in a diffuser to clear the air, or on a cotton ball for your pocket, (3) 2-3 drops in a steam tent for sinus and head relief, (4) for massage: add 1- 2 drops to a palm-full of Jojoba and apply to nose, temples, neck, and belly, (5) for bath: get in the water and repeat palm blend in #4, (6) for shower: add 2-3 drops to the shower floor after turning on the hot water, and step into your own personal menthol mist!

“The liquid of Peppermint essential oil has many medicinal benefits for us. Its clean, fresh, uplifting aroma gives us the mental and emotional inspiration that we often need. Some report it a bit of an aphrodisiac.
